this week on Garyan Shannon during our weekly entertainment report,
we're going to be talking about the new movie Michael.
It is getting a lot of mixed reviews. Some people
are enjoying it. Some people are enjoying this sort of
walk down memory lane. Other people are saying that Michael

Jackson's history and his life was sort of glossed over,
the realities of his life was glossed over, and the
film doesn't go deep enough into what he faced with
his legal challenges, what he faced as an artist. But
that's going to be up to you if you decide
to go see it. I would love to hear from you.

I'd love to know what everybody thinks. Did it go
deep enough? Do we need it to go deeper? But
we talk about that a little bit on Garyan Shannon
this week, we're also going to talk about what it
means to separate the artist from the art. Whenever the
artist has something controversial happened in their life. Are you

look at the clock and I'll be like, oh my god,

I appreciate. Now Here is the Michael Hits Theaters. This
is the biopic about Michael Jackson. I saw this star
studded event, red carpet Hollywood Gramman's Theaters area. Yeah, and
I mean everyone was out there, like everyone who's anyone
was on on this red carpet taking pictures in the
middle of the day.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
And I'm thinking to myself, like everyone's just.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Kind of letting that whole charges child molestation thing go
by the wayside. And I get it, but it seems
like the movie also let that go by the wayside,
and people are freaking out about it. Well.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
I mean, in a lot of biopics, especially lately, the
trend is not to show the movie from birth to death.
You know, with these stars, they pick a certain timeframe
of their lives. And like the Bruce Springsteen you know film,
it just picked one section of his life. This section
is him from about ten years old to about like,
(05:57):
you know, the mid eighties and late eighties or so,
when he was at his peak of stardom and growing
and building. And it focuses a lot on his family,
on his relationship with his dad and his mom, and
you know, speaking of family, it's pretty divided. Like a
lot of his family members did not go to the premiere.
(06:18):
His daughter Paris did not go. Some of his sisters
were asked to be a part of the film. They declined.
But his I think it's like his nephew or somebody
is related. The guy who plays Michael Jackson in the film,
is a Jackson is related to Michael Jackson.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
I was gonna say, whose son is it.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
I think it's a nephew.

It's Michael's nephew, Jaffar Jackson, son of Jermaine.

Sort of glosses over some of the negative stories that
came out about Michael Jackson. I don't know how people
feel about his music now. I feel like there's some division.
Some people listen to it. A lot of people feel
like because nothing was ever proven, he was never charged
with anything.

I think people just want to pretend it never happened.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
It meant to their childhood and their lives and all
of it and a culture period.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
It's hard when a Michael Jackson's song comes on and
that you don't want to bop along to it because
it is such a part of all of our childhood
and childhoods and so.

Like all of the Diddy productions, all the Diddy stuff.

You guys so much with that because I loved everything

If we're gonna not use any products or do anything
or wear any clothes because somebody did something wrong. And
I understand it's it's a little bit more serious than that.

We're talking about child most shoplifting.

Shoplifting, but I mean, it's tough way to go through life.
If you're gonna just shun all the products made by
people who have made bad decisions that lead to criminal charges.

It's a you're gonna be finding yourself not listening to
or supporting.

A lot a lot of art, art, a lot of things,
and a lot of movies, a lot of TV.

You're not going to watch any of the Weinstein movies
that were produced by Weinstein brothers, Mirramax. That's all those
are gone, you know, that's they're in love. It's not
a bad analogy. You're gonna watch a Harvey Weinstein product
produce movie or you listen to a Michael Jackson record, right.

Well, yes, but I think there is a degree of
separation because you never see Harvey Weinstein. You never.

I mean I think you're he's not that. It's all
his money that made that thing.

Listen, everybody has their own line of where of where
they feel like they can where they're more they're moral line.

Listen, I don't know if LaToya is the right person,
but she says Jafar really nailed it in terms of
her brother, and then a guy from the Hollywood Reporter
also said that Jafar nails the sweet, soft spoken voice
with which Michael projected a childlike innocence.

Can we talk about a movie that's coming out next
weekend just because I really want to see it, but
I'm afraid that people are going to talk through the
entire thing product.

of entertainment. One of the shows there was a The
Madison is a show that we've been watching.

And they make one of the daughters in the show
work for a fashion magazine. And they clearly had Devilware's
Prada in their minds when they developed this scene that
comes up in episode five, where it's this you know,
tight jowled, extreme hair, pulled back boss that is supposed

to be sort of the I actually thought it was
supposed to be like the Anne Hathaway character once she grows.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Up and takes over there. Did you say tight jowled?
Is that a word?
Speaker 3 (11:46):
I don't think it's ever going to be a complimentary
term to put a jowl.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Oh, I wouldn't cheek bones.

Or maybe if you've had a post surgery like that
Chris Jenner pulled tight tighte jowl.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Look you know, Okayen, I don't know if works tight child. Yeah, no,
I knew exactly what you're talking about. I just don't
know if the woman you're talking about would enjoy that.
This is how language innovation works, You just try new stuff.
I didn't mean it as a compliment at all. Oh,
I see, it was like harsh looking lady.

And in fact, she is a Taylor Sheridan product because
she was the main antagonist in The Yellowstone for a
few seasons. She was the one that yeah, she was
going after Jamie the bad brother. Yes, she was the
one tried to seduce him and then take over all
this sort of She shows up in the Madison nobody

did anyway, products never seen it.

Uh, you've not seen the first one ever. In my life,
it would be a way.

It's not for me when she tells me that, because

Listen, this movie is going to be amazing. The first
one is. It has a lot to live up to
because the first one has been a lot of comfort
watches for women and gays for a very long time,
so it has a lot to live up to.

I mean, it really does address what the fashion industry is,
and it addresses people who don't know what the fashion
industry is because they think it's beneath them or that
it's just about clothes, and that it's actually a multi
billion dollar global industry. Yes, and the importance that it
has on culture and life period.

It gives us a peek into what I feel like
is a life that I will never know. The opulence
and the decadence of fashion in New York, Like that's
so opposite of me and everything that I am.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
But I like to watch it.

I like to watch that sort of slice of life
where you're like, oh, this is what.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
This is like? Thing about fashion.

But I love watching Gossip Girl and Emily in Paris
for that reason.

just I'm excited for this movie.

I think also because I'm also torn.

a great movie, and it's like, do we have to
make a sequel to everything?

And I feel like all the good parts are in
the trailer. Yes, for sure. You know, Ciddy Sweeney shot
a scene, but they cut it out.

to figure out, like why she was cut out.

Genes, the Big Four are back, Meryl Street Band, Hathaway,
Emily Blunt, and Stanley.

I feel like, even though it's probably gonna suck, I'll
still enjoy it.

You have the goodwill from the first one, all built up.

Those people look different twenty years later. I think they
all look pretty good. They look great, They look fantastic.

in a person I wasn't invited. But I've seen their
pictures and stuff.

it's it's fun that they're all.

Back, which fits the movie perfectly because if you want
to believe in them and their roles, they would never
let themselves age ever, and they don't never.

I think it'll be a fun continuation. And I don't
remember Doublair's product being that big at the box office
when it first came out.

It was in rewatch. It was a cultural it was
like Bridesmaids.

Bridesmaids was kind of a flop at the box office,
and or people by word of mouth heard about it.

On the word of mouth, oh what, okay, thank you
for bringing up my wounds. But no, I think I
think this one is gonna it might be. I think
a lot of people are gonna go out and I
think people are really gonna enjoy it. But it is
what it is. It's a sequel. It's a continuation of
the story. Andy is now going to be back in

this world that we thought she had left behind.

And yeah, the timing of it is what surprised me,
because I know it's a huge I knew the original
was a huge movie. Why wouldn't they wait until to
drop this? Or is it that summer is already going
to be crowded with a bunch of others.

I think it might be that there's good there's a
lot of, you know, big summer movies coming out. Don't
ask me which ones, because I'm sleepy. I've been up
since three and I can't remember any right now. But
there are a lot of big summer movies coming out.
I'm not really sure why they drop it now. Usually
when they release movies like this in the springtime or
before summer, it's because they don't have a lot of
faith in it.

Anne Hathaway had a movie that came out last week,
as a matter of fact, and it was a stinker Rooney.
She did almost no press for it whatsoever. And I
think it's because she's been so focused on this movie

I saw a write up of that movie, and I go,
Anne halfway and a movie come out.

But I think this movie is gonna be good. Devlor's

I appreciate. Now Here is the Michael Hits Theaters. This
is the biopic about Michael Jackson. I saw this star
studded event, red carpet Hollywood Gramman's Theaters area. Yeah, and
I mean everyone was out there, like everyone who's anyone
was on on this red carpet taking pictures in the
middle of the day.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
And I'm thinking to myself, like everyone's just.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Kind of letting that whole charges child molestation thing go
by the wayside. And I get it, but it seems
like the movie also let that go by the wayside,
and people are freaking out about it. Well.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
I mean, in a lot of biopics, especially lately, the
trend is not to show the movie from birth to death.
You know, with these stars, they pick a certain timeframe
of their lives. And like the Bruce Springsteen you know film,
it just picked one section of his life. This section
is him from about ten years old to about like,
(05:57):
you know, the mid eighties and late eighties or so,
when he was at his peak of stardom and growing
and building. And it focuses a lot on his family,
on his relationship with his dad and his mom, and
you know, speaking of family, it's pretty divided. Like a
lot of his family members did not go to the premiere.
(06:18):
His daughter Paris did not go. Some of his sisters
were asked to be a part of the film. They declined.
But his I think it's like his nephew or somebody
is related. The guy who plays Michael Jackson in the film,
is a Jackson is related to Michael Jackson.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
I was gonna say, whose son is it.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
I think it's a nephew.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
It's Michael's nephew, Jaffar Jackson, son of Jermaine.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Jermaine. That's what Jermaine's son. So can I watch Jennifer
Hudson the Jennifer Hudson Show? Just a clip?
Speaker 2 (06:50):
I don't watch the show, just a clip of her
asking him.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
So she goes, so you're you're Michael Jackson's nephew. That's amazing.
How did you get this part? Oh boy? Well I
was like, what are we doing? Someone help her? But yeah,
so this is this is a movie that.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Sort of glosses over some of the negative stories that
came out about Michael Jackson. I don't know how people
feel about his music now. I feel like there's some division.
Some people listen to it. A lot of people feel
like because nothing was ever proven, he was never charged
with anything.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
I think people just want to pretend it never happened.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
It meant to their childhood and their lives and all
of it and a culture period.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
It's hard when a Michael Jackson's song comes on and
that you don't want to bop along to it because
it is such a part of all of our childhood
and childhoods and so.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Like all of the Diddy productions, all the Diddy stuff.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
You guys so much with that because I loved everything
Bad Boy.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Records, No Same, Notorious b I g.

I just pretend I don't know when it comes on,
but it's like, what do you do?

Oh my gosh, this is a Michael Jackson, I didn't know.
Put your head in the sand, pretend it never happened.
I mean, it's one of those those debates where it's like,
can you separate the art from the art.

If we're gonna not use any products or do anything
or wear any clothes because somebody did something wrong. And
I understand it's it's a little bit more serious than that.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
We're talking about child most shoplifting.

Shoplifting, but I mean, it's tough way to go through life.
If you're gonna just shun all the products made by
people who have made bad decisions that lead to criminal charges.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
It's a you're gonna be finding yourself not listening to
or supporting.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
A lot a lot of art, art, a lot of things,
and a lot of movies, a lot of TV.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
You're not going to watch any of the Weinstein movies
that were produced by Weinstein brothers, Mirramax. That's all those
are gone, you know, that's they're in love. It's not
a bad analogy. You're gonna watch a Harvey Weinstein product
produce movie or you listen to a Michael Jackson record, right.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
Well, yes, but I think there is a degree of
separation because you never see Harvey Weinstein. You never.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
I mean I think you're he's not that. It's all
his money that made that thing.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
Yeah, that's true.

Listen, everybody has their own line of where of where
they feel like they can where they're more they're moral line.

It's kind of like which animals are uk eating?

Yes, people are saying literally the headlines are like it's bad,

Listen, I don't know if LaToya is the right person,
but she says Jafar really nailed it in terms of
her brother, and then a guy from the Hollywood Reporter
also said that Jafar nails the sweet, soft spoken voice
with which Michael projected a childlike innocence.

Can we talk about a movie that's coming out next
weekend just because I really want to see it, but
I'm afraid that people are going to talk through the
entire thing product.

Madison is a show that we've been watching.

And they make one of the daughters in the show
work for a fashion magazine. And they clearly had Devilware's
Prada in their minds when they developed this scene that
comes up in episode five, where it's this you know,
tight jowled, extreme hair, pulled back boss that is supposed

to be sort of the I actually thought it was
supposed to be like the Anne Hathaway character once she grows.

Up and takes over there. Did you say tight jowled?
Is that a word?
Speaker 3 (11:46):
I don't think it's ever going to be a complimentary
term to put a jowl.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Oh, I wouldn't cheek bones.

Or maybe if you've had a post surgery like that
Chris Jenner pulled tight tighte jowl.

Look you know, Okayen, I don't know if works tight child. Yeah, no,
I knew exactly what you're talking about. I just don't
know if the woman you're talking about would enjoy that.
This is how language innovation works, You just try new stuff.
I didn't mean it as a compliment at all. Oh,
I see, it was like harsh looking lady.

And in fact, she is a Taylor Sheridan product because
she was the main antagonist in The Yellowstone for a
few seasons. She was the one that yeah, she was
going after Jamie the bad brother. Yes, she was the
one tried to seduce him and then take over all
this sort of She shows up in the Madison nobody

did anyway, products never seen it.

Uh, you've not seen the first one ever. In my life,
it would be a way.

It's not for me when she tells me that, because
then he would.

Not appreciate it. I think he would. He just pretends
he wouldn't. But I love Meryl Street.

I'm not going to fight the fight where he doesn't
know who he really is. I know he would enjoy it,
but he would never admit it.

Listen, this movie is going to be amazing. The first
one is. It has a lot to live up to
because the first one has been a lot of comfort
watches for women and gays for a very long time,
so it has a lot to live up to.

I mean, it really does address what the fashion industry is,
and it addresses people who don't know what the fashion
industry is because they think it's beneath them or that
it's just about clothes, and that it's actually a multi
billion dollar global industry. Yes, and the importance that it
has on culture and life period.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
It gives us a peek into what I feel like
is a life that I will never know. The opulence
and the decadence of fashion in New York, Like that's
so opposite of me and everything that I am.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
But I like to watch it.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
I like to watch that sort of slice of life
where you're like, oh, this is what.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
This is like? Thing about fashion.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
But I love watching Gossip Girl and Emily in Paris
for that reason.

I know we've talked about Emily before, but yes, I
just I'm excited for this movie.

I think also because I'm also torn.

I do want to say that because it was such
a great movie, and it's like, do we have to
make a sequel to everything?

And I feel like all the good parts are in
the trailer. Yes, for sure. You know, Ciddy Sweeney shot
a scene, but they cut it out.

to figure out, like why she was cut out.

Genes, the Big Four are back, Meryl Street Band, Hathaway,
Emily Blunt, and Stanley.

I feel like, even though it's probably gonna suck, I'll
still enjoy it.

You have the goodwill from the first one, all built up.

I don't do any of.

Those people look different twenty years later. I think they
all look pretty good. They look great, They look fantastic.
I saw them at the premiere. I mean not live
in a person I wasn't invited. But I've seen their
pictures and stuff.

They all look fantastic, and yeah, I mean I think
it's it's fun that they're all.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Back, which fits the movie perfectly because if you want
to believe in them and their roles, they would never
let themselves age ever, and they don't never.

I think it'll be a fun continuation. And I don't
remember Doublair's product being that big at the box office
when it first came out.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
It was in rewatch. It was a cultural it was
like Bridesmaids.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Bridesmaids was kind of a flop at the box office,
and or people by word of mouth heard about it.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
And all that and.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
On the word of mouth, oh what, okay, thank you
for bringing up my wounds. But no, I think I
think this one is gonna it might be. I think
a lot of people are gonna go out and I
think people are really gonna enjoy it. But it is
what it is. It's a sequel. It's a continuation of
the story. Andy is now going to be back in

this world that we thought she had left behind.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
And yeah, the timing of it is what surprised me,
because I know it's a huge I knew the original
was a huge movie. Why wouldn't they wait until to
drop this? Or is it that summer is already going
to be crowded with a bunch of others.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
I think it might be that there's good there's a
lot of, you know, big summer movies coming out. Don't
ask me which ones, because I'm sleepy. I've been up
since three and I can't remember any right now. But
there are a lot of big summer movies coming out.
I'm not really sure why they drop it now. Usually
when they release movies like this in the springtime or
before summer, it's because they don't have a lot of
faith in it.

Anne Hathaway had a movie that came out last week,
as a matter of fact, and it was a stinker Rooney.
She did almost no press for it whatsoever. And I
think it's because she's been so focused on this movie
coming out and they know it's going to do really well.

I saw a write up of that movie, and I go,
Anne halfway and a movie come out.

I didn't even hear about it.

But I think this movie is gonna be good. Devlor's
