all things entertainment from SoCal to the silver screen. I'm
Heather Brooker and we've got a good show today because
we're going to be covering everything at the box office,
from the new movie the back rooms to the Breadwinner.
And of course I love sitting down with Gary and
Shannon every Friday to talk about movies and entertainment with them,

we also talk about a movie or TV show rather,
if you don't want to go to the movies, will
you stay home and watch Spider Noir. It's the new
Nick Cage Spider Man television series that you can watch
in black and white or in color. And we're going
to break all that down, plus a little bit a
little tiny bit of a sneak preview of the summer

box office movies that are going to be coming out,
and Gary and Channon tell me what they are looking
forward to the most. So here we go enjoy. This

Yes, I gotta say I'm I've had a real rough
time with people talking in theaters. Oh yeah, it hasn't subsided.
I feel like every time I go there's somebody yapping
what's your price point of the theater? Are you spending
the AMC money? Are you doing the dining dining movie?
Sometimes I feel like that can make a difference.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
It's it's usually well, I feel like it sounds make
it even worse.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Yeah, that's true. You're not talking, but you're like, listen, listen.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
I bring running my own stuff to the theater, like
I bring my own I pop my popcorn at home,
I bring my own candy, like I'm that person used
to have a friend who.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
We go do movies together. After work we go see
movies whatever. She would bring a bucket of spinach and
she would sit there and eat her spinach, and I
would be did you describe this person as a friend? Yeah,
well not anymore. We actually are not anymore. Turns out
she's a terrible person.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
Really, Yes, shocker early indications. Wait, yeah, exactly. I would
talk about this spinach just like raw raw not.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
That she had. She would go funny the dollar Store
before the movies and she would get, yes, a bag
of the dollar store spinach. You know, it's back on
the I don't know if the dollar store some of
them still have grocery areas or whatever, but she would
get the dollar store spinach. She would put it in
a bucket. Did you have an eating disorder? Yes?

Okay, that's the only way you can describe it. I
guess that's the only thing that rationalizes doing that.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Yeah. I think it made her feel like she was
eating something while I was sitting there with my buttery,
delicious popcorn. And I feel sad for her, To be fair,
though she is very thin and I am not, so
maybe there is something she hasn't eat. Do that? Come on?
All right? Speaking of eating, the Breadwinner is eating it
up at the box office. I don't know if that's true,

but don't quote me, Sony. All right, this is Nate
Barghetti's new movie, you guys. Yeah, this was pushed back
from March. I think is when they were oosed to. Yeah.
I'm not sure why they did that. I think, you know,
maybe there was competing with something. But this movie. If
you like Nate Barghesi's stand up, you will enjoy this movie.
It is very funny, it's very clean, it's charming. It's
(03:44):
a similar trope of the dad is left alone at
home with the kids and will he be able to
function and handle them? And it turns out he fails spectacularly,
but learns a lesson a new mister mom exactly. But
it's done in very much his style of his stand
up that's sort of awkward, almost bumbling kind of dad.

But what I love about it is that it is
a movie that the whole family can see, and that's
so rare to be able to find a generational type
of movie where you can take Mema and Pepa as
well as your little ones and they're not going to
be offended. There's no nudity there's no swearing. It's a
sweet story. Is it gonna knock your socks off? No,
but it's it's a good movie.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Didn't he Wait, who's the comic. Oh, this is the
comic that takes his shirt off. No, that's Burt Kreischer.
He has the sitcom. Yes, that I enjoyed, right, it
was really well done. Is this similar to that?

No? Okay, no, this is very clean. The other one
was clean. Wasn't it very blue? Oh? Very dirty, very sweat.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
The girl, I mean, his youngest daughter was yelling at him. Yeah,
the F word over and over again.

Okay, maybe there's a few F words, but I remember
being relatively clean. It was fun for the whole family.

you guys, Another movie's at eight year old? Drop on
the f F. I know multiple times in the show.
I mean, there was no sad, right, there was no boobs.
I accidentally, I don't want to see you, I know
what happened. I accidentally showed my thirteen year old sixteen candles. Yeah,

sixteen candles the other day, yo, completely not just completely
glazing over the fact that there's like full frontal nudity
and what She was like, oh my god, because when
they showed the boobs in the movie, there's a sound
effect that goes bongongongong on and I screamed. I was like,
oh my god, I forgot. And I instantly was like,
(05:42):
oh my god, She's not gonna traumatize. She was laughing
so hard. She goes, why did they make that sound effect?
That's funny? I was like, I'm the worst mom ever.
That's speaking of my thirteen who's calling me right now?
Speaking of my thirteen year old? She is the most
excited for this movie called back that's coming out this weekend.
Have you guys heard about that?

All right, So this is going to change the way
that I think horror movies are made and created moving forward.
So it's a young man, a young YouTuber content creator
named Cain Parsons. He directed this movie when he was
about nineteen years old. He got an offer from A

twenty four to do this movie, which is unheard of.
Let me tell you just briefly, like kind of I
had to talk to my thirteen year old to get
an understanding of what the Back Rooms is all about.
It's uncanny Valley for places instead of people. Back Rooms
are like the boundaries of reality, and something about them
feels unsettling, like you're on the edge between a dream

world and a real dimension. Backrooms were used as inspiration
for the Endless Hallways and Severance. You know those have
like backrooms vibes to them. This is an internet trend
and Internet thing that's been going on for several years now.
That's what this is. Many people believe that in these
back rooms there's some kind of unseen or unknown threat
called an entity. And the backroom's lore expanded into video

games and other adaptations, and the most popular one was
from sixteen year old to YouTuber named Kane Parsons. He
used found footage style of creating content to do a
short film. It was nine minutes long, got seventy nine
million views. He made twenty one more sort of episodes
or versions of this back room's content. Then at nineteen
(07:32):
A twenty four hired him to direct this feature length film.
They use thirty thousand square feet of backroom set, cost
ten million dollars to make, and it is it is
projected to go well above that in profits. Because so
many young people online have for years now been watching
this backroom flore and he's not the only one doing it.
(07:54):
Others are doing it, and this is the first time
they're going to see it in the theater on screen,
and it's going to be groundbreaking.

There's something creepy about it. I mean it goes back
to lizard brain fears that we all have about stuff
that we would never be able to explain why we're
so afraid of it.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Like when you walk into a room and the hairs
on your arms stand up and you don't know why,
or you see something that makes you uncomfortable.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
It's like that we talk about We've said it many
times when we refer to fears like that, the tripophobia fear,
which is the fear of like small patterns or holes
that you see them in your skin or something like that.
There's a lot of AI generated images of it. It
creeps you out for some reason and you can't explain why.
That seems like this is kind of in that same vein.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Yes, it absolutely is. So there's a trend now where
people when they're walking into hallways or they're going in
a back room of something, like we have hallways here
that are like these back room lore that makes you
feel like, am I alone here? Is there something else here?
And it's this inherently scary feeling.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
It's probably taken that this is probably is probably right
around the corner and you can't tell.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
This movie like takes this like feeling of fear in
these sort of back room places and spaces and amplivize it.
And it's got chewtel E Giaffori in it. It's a
great cast. It's gonna do huge and change the game
for content creators as filmmakers.

I saw the ad for this whole Spider Man Spider Noir.
What do you think pick a lane? Am I gonna
watch it in color? Am I going to watch it
in black and white? If you want to make it
black and white, perfectly fine? Why also add the color
version of it?

I don't know, just because people like some people like
the choices, you know, people like options. I watched it
in black and white, you know, just to kind of
get into the noir feel. If people don't know what
Spider Man Noir is, it's sort of another extension of
Sony's options for the Spider verse. If you guys, remember
(09:58):
into the Spider Versus when they introduced us to all
the variations of the Spider Man. The Spider Man. We
had Hailey Seinfeld, Spider Gwyn, John mulaney Spider Ham, and
then we had Nicholas Cage's Spider Man Noir. It's just
Spider Noir as opposed to Spider Man. There's no man, right, Yes,
we're getting there. Never interrupt me again, please proceed. Oh
(10:20):
my goodness. So he was so popular that they this character.
Sony was like, you know what, let's expand on this,
and uh so they did. They they brought this live
action Spider Noir series to uh to your TVs, and
you can't choose to watch it in color or black
(10:40):
and white. It's shot in a very noir style with
low camera angles, dramatic cuts like it's it looks beautiful.
But a lot of people are having trouble adjusting to
Nicholas's cap Nicholas Cage's take on this character. He it
feels like we're watching Nicholas ca Age play a Spider

Man character and he's not like it's not like it's
action heavy. He's not jumping from building to build a thing. Yeah,
apparently good for him. He's not jumping from building the building.
There are some moments where we see an obvious stunt
person or whatever that's doing stuff, but it's more about
this sort of hardened detective that he's become now and
he's solving crimes. And you know, Brendan Gleeson is the

bad guy, the villain in the series. So a lot
of people are like, Eh, this wasn't really necessary. It's
beautiful to look at, you know, and if you like
Spider Man, then you will enjoy this.

Did you know that he officially changed his name to
Nick Cage. Oh last year. I wonder why tax purposes.
Maybe he was born Nicholas Copeolag and he said the
move was about finally stepping out of the shadow of
his famous family.

At sixty seven years old. That's a late midlife crisis. Yeah,
so it'll be interesting if you're a Spider Man fan,
check out Spider Noir.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
He said he's a huge fan of the short and
sweet vibe of James Dean, so he changed it to
Nick Cage.

Okay, just maybe it rolls off the tongue a little
easier timely. Otherwise, there's a lot of movies coming out
this summer. There's a movie on Netflix. Ladies.

First, Okay, have you seen that? I feel like maybe
I've seen the title card. My husband likes a rom com.
I was thinking maybe of giving that a watch this weekend. Yeah,

we have too much time to get into the major
movies coming out this summer, but a few I want
to point out is there is a Speaking of Spider Man.
There's a Spider Man Brand New Day with Tom Holland
is back with his crew. That's going to be a
great movie. I think that's gonna be really Popularristopher Nolan Odyssey. Yes,
that's a big one, right, that is the big one.

I think a lot of people are really looking forward
to that. We've also got Supergirl Disclosure Day.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
I've seen a lot of great best Spielberg movie in
twenty five years.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
I've heard that too. I'm going I'm going to an
early screening of that in the next week or so.
So I'm very excited to see that. And tell you
guys about that Toy Story five? Do you feel like
we need another toy story kids? That don't know. They
don't know. The kids they don't know. The toys can talk.
And well Andy now apparently is balding and has a ball.

That's not cool. Yeah, they've aged him.

Is it bad that when I think about Odyssey, I
think of it as homework?

Spider Noir as opposed to Spider Man. There's no man, right, Yes,
we're getting there. Never interrupt me again, please proceed. Oh

my goodness. So he was so popular that they this character.
Sony was like, you know what, let's expand on this,
and uh so they did. They they brought this live
action Spider Noir series to uh to your TVs, and
you can't choose to watch it in color or black
(10:40):
and white. It's shot in a very noir style with
low camera angles, dramatic cuts like it's it looks beautiful.
But a lot of people are having trouble adjusting to
Nicholas's cap Nicholas Cage's take on this character. He it
feels like we're watching Nicholas ca Age play a Spider
(11:02):
Man character and he's not like it's not like it's
action heavy. He's not jumping from building to build a thing. Yeah,
apparently good for him. He's not jumping from building the building.
There are some moments where we see an obvious stunt
person or whatever that's doing stuff, but it's more about
this sort of hardened detective that he's become now and
he's solving crimes. And you know, Brendan Gleeson is the

bad guy, the villain in the series. So a lot
of people are like, Eh, this wasn't really necessary. It's
beautiful to look at, you know, and if you like
Spider Man, then you will enjoy this.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
Did you know that he officially changed his name to
Nick Cage. Oh last year. I wonder why tax purposes.
Maybe he was born Nicholas Copeolag and he said the
move was about finally stepping out of the shadow of
his famous family.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
At sixty seven years old. That's a late midlife crisis. Yeah,
so it'll be interesting if you're a Spider Man fan,
check out Spider Noir.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
He said he's a huge fan of the short and
sweet vibe of James Dean, so he changed it to
Nick Cage.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Okay, just maybe it rolls off the tongue a little
easier timely. Otherwise, there's a lot of movies coming out
this summer. There's a movie on Netflix. Ladies.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
First, Okay, have you seen that? I feel like maybe
I've seen the title card. My husband likes a rom com.
I was thinking maybe of giving that a watch this weekend. Yeah,
do it and let me know.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
What you think. Okay, there's a I don't know if
we have too much time to get into the major
movies coming out this summer, but a few I want
to point out is there is a Speaking of Spider Man.
There's a Spider Man Brand New Day with Tom Holland
is back with his crew. That's going to be a
great movie. I think that's gonna be really Popularristopher Nolan Odyssey. Yes,
that's a big one, right, that is the big one.
(12:49):
I think a lot of people are really looking forward
to that. We've also got Supergirl Disclosure Day.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
I've seen a lot of great best Spielberg movie in
twenty five years.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
I've heard that too. I'm going I'm going to an
early screening of that in the next week or so.
So I'm very excited to see that. And tell you
guys about that Toy Story five? Do you feel like
we need another toy story kids? That don't know. They
don't know. The kids they don't know. The toys can talk.
And well Andy now apparently is balding and has a ball.
(13:20):
That's not cool. Yeah, they've aged him.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Is it bad that when I think about Odyssey, I
think of it as homework?
Speaker 1 (13:27):
IgE a lot of people that way. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
I just remember being cumbersome and awful and hard to
get through and all of the things and not willing
to focus on that and what does it all mean?
Speaker 1 (13:38):
And I'm gonna say there's a pretty good chance the
movie may be the same thing. But think about then.
The kids in high school now don't have to read
the book. They can go watch the movie. Kids haven't
read books in high school for decades. Really, they don't
read anymore.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Oh no, I'm gonna make my kids. Your kid read,
she doesn't honest answer?
Speaker 1 (13:59):
Waiting for something? And Masters of the Universe, that's my
last one. My brother loved Masters. Oh it's gonna be fun.
You guys are going to enjoy it. It's a wild ride.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
We'll talk about that first indoctrination of a body dysmorphia
for young men.
Speaker 1 (14:14):

been laughing about that ever since. That is so crazy.
