(00:01):
Welcome into another episode of the FastingGuy podcast. That's me. I'm glad
to have you along today. Todaywe're going to be talking about day eleven
of this well, I don't knowwhat to call it, Like I always
fast, it's something different though,Like I want to say this fasting journey,
but I have fast all the time. It's an extended fasting journey,
(00:22):
I guess, and we're doing someof that here leading up to November.
So I didn't plan on doing anepisode and releasing it today, but after
the results of today, it seemedlike the thing to do. So today
we we have. If you listenedto yesterday's episode, you know that we
(00:46):
were going to embark on a fortyeight ish hour fast, so maybe forty
six, forty seven, forty eight, I don't know, something like that.
Break our fast and around noon onFriday, this starting on Wednesday,
breaking on Friday, and then goout into have a a couple of days
(01:07):
out of town social activities, etcetera, et cetera, at which point
we would do like a two dayrefeat at that point, and then when
we got back Sunday we would jumpback into a seventy two hour fast.
So that was the plan. Theproblem was, you know, after I
(01:29):
broke the fast yesterday, the samething kind of happened that happened Sunday.
When I broke the fast, Iwas just very, very very full.
So the problem I'm running into isone that I don't think there is a
fix for. The one thing I'mabsolutely certain of from all the fasting research
that I've read over the years, and I've read a ton of it,
(01:51):
maybe all of it, I don'tknow when you're going to be doing extended
fasts. And this goes so faras and for like those alternate day fasts,
so you know you're making it tolike the forty hour mark or something.
When you refeeds, you need tobe ref you need to be refeeding
(02:13):
a standard, a standard maintenance levelof food, like the amount of food
that you would eat to st tomaintain your current weight if you ate it
every day. So what does thatmean? And I know there's a big
debate about calories. You know, calories aren't the only thing, but they
are a measuring stick, right,It gives us some judge of quantity of
(02:38):
food that we require to maintain acertain weight. So in that context,
let's just say, for example, that you require two thousand calories of food.
If you ate that every day,you would maintain your current weight.
So all of the research that I'veseen says anytime you go past like a
(03:01):
one meal a day type fast, anything longer than that. So this gets
into the eightyf which is anywhere fromthirty six to forty. It gets into
the forty eights, it gets intothe seventy twos, you know, and
beyond when you refeed, you needto refeed at the at least the amount
that you would normally eat to maintainyour weight. Not only that, but
(03:28):
even go over it if you cana little bit, maybe go twenty percent
over it. The reason is isbecause this, you know, your body
goes into a breaking down cycle anda conserving So there's two things. It
goes into a reshifting of energy andconservation cycle. So it starts to reshift
energy like, well, you're notanything, so you don't need digestion,
(03:51):
So it takes that energy it wasexpending on digestion, and it sends it
to you know, brain, sendsit to heart, sends it to you
know, kidneys, things that needit, and then it slows it down.
In some other places a little bit, and now it doesn't sew it
down a ton. A lot ofresearch all show shows that you don't lose
that much resting metabolic rate on atwo or three day fast. As matter
(04:11):
of fact, it increases for aperiod of time in there. But what
will happen is your body does gointo that it goes into this different mode.
Right, So that's one thing thathappens. The I think that happens
that it starts breaking down things, breaking down damaged and folded proteins, It
starts breaking down the sinesseent cells,It starts cleaning up other type things and
(04:39):
you know, either converting it intoenergy or recycling proteins or something. It
starts dispelling things from the body invarious ways. And then that's a part
one of something that needs. Parttwo of that is your body needs to
hit a refeed. So that youneed to hit a refeed so your body
(04:59):
can go, oh okay, here'sa lot of building blocks we can do.
Now. For the past two daysor three days or however long,
we've been breaking stuff down. Nowit's time to rebuild stuff and create stuff
and use these materials and nutrients andstuff to make things better and improve it.
So that's part of part one.And then part two is it's like,
oh yeah, we're also not starving. We've got plenty of food.
(05:20):
Boy, we're just really killing ittoday. So it's you know, we
don't need to go into any rampingdown of energy or you know, being
overly concerned of energy conservation or anyof those type things, and so like
all this stuff is really important. So everything I've ever read on it confirms
that. So, you know, going back to this last Friday when I
(05:47):
broke fast in the evening and weate that evening, we ate the next
day, and then we ate,you know, one time on Sunday.
You know, if you put stringthe hours together, wound up being and
you know, less than two days. It really was like a day and
a half if you did it byhours, but it spanned across three days
from Friday evening to Sunday around lunch. All three days was very hard.
(06:12):
Like I didn't get up to anyreasonable amount of calories on Friday, Saturday,
I did get up to my maintenancelevel. I was just very uncomfortable
though it was very hard to do. It wasn't easy. And then Sunday
it was the same thing because Ireally wanted to hit maintenance again or darn
near it, and knew well itwas difficult. I was full and uncomfortable,
(06:38):
and all these things laid into theevening. I slept like a baby
when I went to sleep. Oneof the other things I noticed, which
tells me that my body was likereally ramping up all of its mechanisms to
digest food, is because my heartrate elevated and like my body was literally
kicked up into an elevated state tryingto deal with all that food. And
(07:00):
my heart remained elevated through the nightand actually into the next morning before it
fell back down. Like my restingheart rate is pretty reasonable, like in
the sitting position, you know,it's it's really low. Standing it's not
that low. But when I'm eithersitting or reclined or laying or you know,
anything other than like up and aroundfor a bit, my heart rate
(07:20):
is it's a it's a really prettylow heart rate. And it was just
elevated. Man, it was youjust feel all these things. They were
all uncomfortable. So then I didthe three day fast, and when I
broke that fast on Wednesday, samething. I really tried to hit a
maintenance level a minimum of two thousand. I think we did just over two
(07:42):
thousand, barely, and same thing, boy, just full and uncomfortable.
The heart rate went back up again. The heart rate was up all into
the evening into the night. Idid sleep great again, but heart rate
all into the the morning. Andwe got through the fast. And so
today as I'm coming up on youknow, twenty four hours fast, that
(08:05):
I started thinking about it and I'mlike, man, I just I don't
oh, I'm missing anything. Ileft the other thing completely out. So
the other thing is is that Iexperienced wild digestion digestion discomfort, so not
just the full sensation that translates muchlater. For five hours after eating,
(08:28):
into some cramping, some you know, this feeling of you know something's coming
and it's about to happen, butit's it's just just cramping feeling. And
then you know, within usually likefive or six hours, I'll be going
and to the restroom and it'll relievea lot of that, but still some
(08:48):
of it will remain, and thena couple hours later I'll be going to
the restroom again. So that's theother thing I noticed. So the same
thing happened Wednesday when I broke thefast, And so now I'm thinking about,
you know, going into this weekendwhere I'm going to be leaving Friday
and I'm going to be out andabout trying to be social and going places
(09:11):
and doing things. You know,do I really want to be in that
position and just be miserable from therefeed, have the over fullness, the
increased heart rate, the later on, this discomfort in the and the abdomen
and the intestines and all these issues, and then the the issues with going
(09:35):
to the bathroom and all like doI want all that kind of stuff?
So think about it today, I'mlike, man, I don't you know
I want? I want to tryto avoid that. Otherwise, what's the
point going if I'm not going toenjoy myself or you know, I'm going
to be miserable or something like that. So I decided to refeed today at
twenty three hours and to refeed withinan hour, which I did. Then
(09:58):
we will fast until tomorrow till twentythree hours and I'll refeed again, which
will be maybe eleven between eleven andnoon. That'll be right before I leave
home. And so what I'm hopingis that refeeding today will have got everything
back working normally, so tomorrow justa mere twenty three hours later, it's
(10:20):
not an issue, and then Ican just feel normal and move right through
Friday night and Saturday and then jumpback into a seventy two hour on Sunday.
Look, it's all experimental, it'sall you know, working through whatever.
But that's where I'm at. Sothat's where you're getting an update today.
If you want the stats, it'stwenty three hours. We weighed three
thirty six point eight So after therefeed yesterday, once again, same thing
(10:43):
happened. After the last refeed,we gained only point two pounds, So
I mean really just said nothing burger. That puts us at minus nine point
three pounds total weight loss in theeleven days we've been doing this. Blood
Gluecoaster was really premium today. Ithink I checked it at the two two
hour mark. It's when I checkedit, it was eighty four. We
did eight eight eight in the onehour window, and then we started the
(11:09):
twenty four hour fast till tomorrow,so they get you caught up on day
eleven. Don't know if you'll getan update tomorrow because I'll be traveling,
so just depend on how the daygoes. Don't know if you'll get an
update Saturday, because again I'll betraveling. Just depend on how the day
goes. But you know, unlesssomething horrific happens we now on Sunday to
(11:31):
change up my life or schedule orsomething else, then we will be shooting
to get you an update Sunday.I hope you're doing well. Appreciate the
messages from you guys. Appreciate youdownloading and subscribing and sharing this journey with
me and allowing me to share yourjourney with you. We'll talk to you
next time.
