black board. No, he just said I was a bad boy.
He didn't even tell me not to do it again.
Speaker 8 (04:32):

my speech. I thought it might be the opposition party
set them all. Maybe sailors and that ship down the
harbor quite a long right up in the morning paper
says there's three misigns who caused the disturbance are unknown
(07:51):
as they escaped in the confusion. Right goodness, Now listen
to this Judge letters Beach was the first election oation
of the year, and it can't truthfully be said that
the judge went over with the bank. What are you
gigging about, Tom Bailey? It's no laughing matter my social
(08:14):
prestige and injured my political reputation. First of all, I
just scared me to death. M h. I'm glad you

Speaker 1 (30:35):
Welcome back. The book The Story of a Bad Boy
was written in eighteen seventy and it was semi autobiographical.
The episode changes quite a few plot details, but what
it captured is the book's very episodic nature much more
a series of vignettes than a novel. As we'd understand
(30:59):
it today, the book would be influential in taking a
mischief making boy and making him the book's hero. It's
the foundation of that whole subgenre, and it would lay
the groundwork for Mark Twain's books and be an influence
on Twain. But of course Twain's work surpassed Aldrich and
(31:21):
are far better remembered today. One big reason for that
might be that even though there are a lot of
episodes in Wwaine's books, there tended to be bigger, overarching
plots that work their way through the books in Tom
Sawyer and to an even greater extent in Huckleberry Finn. Well,
