Leone XIV ha incontrato i rappresentanti della stampa internazionale, protagonisti della cronaca sul Conclave che si è appena concluso. Nel suo saluto iniziale, il Pontefice ha scelto di parlare in inglese, la sua lingua madre, esordendo con una battuta che ha strappato un sorriso ai presenti: “Good morning, and thank you for this wonderful reception. They say that when they clap at the beginning, it doesn’t mean much. But if you’re still awake at the end and still want to applaud, thank you very much.”
L’incontro si è svolto in un clima di cordialità e curiosità verso la figura del nuovo Papa, che ha raccolto la pesante eredità lasciata da Papa Francesco, scomparso il 21 aprile scorso .
