Speaker 2 (00:11):
This week on in the Midwest Garden, I'll be sharing
some of my favorite ornamental grasses. August and September our
peak grass season here in Wisconsin. In the Midwest, many
of them begin to flower and put on their fantastic
displays during the last weeks of summer and into fall.
Today's some showy annual grasses. Annual grasses are those that
live and grow for just one season before dying back

(00:31):
in the fall. There are many excellent annual grasses that
can be used in a number of different ways. Grasses
add texture and form and elegance, as well as vertical
interest to the garden. By combining grasses of different heights
and different types of seed plumes, we can create some
spectacular displays. Combining grasses with annual perennials and shrubs is
a great way to elevate your garden hobby. Purple fountain

(00:53):
grass is a popular annual ornamental grass for its rich color,
spectacular foxtail seed plumes, and its beauty that lasts will
and to fall. This same rich purplish chocolate color can
also be found in vertigo grass. This grass is an
excellent choice for large space gardening and as a specimen plant,
as it may grow five to six feet tall and
wide by the end of summer. Fireworks fountain grass features

(01:14):
the same foxtail booms as purple fountain grass, but with
variegated foliage and green, pink and white a wonderfully elegant
and beautiful display. There are many excellent, smaller annual grasses
that can be used in garden beds, even in containers.
The fiber optic grass is popular, with tiny fiber optic
tips form a perfect mound of texture green foliage twisted said.

(01:34):
Your curly siedage forms outrageous curly blades in a beautiful
clumping form. So many excellent grasses for so many different purposes.
I'll talk about more of them all this week on
in the Midwest Garden.
