Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the WIMA Sports desk. The Ohio State Buckeyes began
their West Coast swing with a sixty nine to sixty
one loss at UCLA yesterday afternoon. We get a Buckeye
update with Stally Insurance. The Buckeyes shot just thirty two
percent from the floor, including six of twenty seven from three.
Bruce Thornton scored twenty one to lead Ohio State, who's

(00:21):
now lost three in a row. The Buckeyes dropped to
fifteen and thirteen overall and seven and ten in the
Big Ten Conference. It was the second straight bad offensive
game for the Buckeyes, following a home loss to Northwestern.
After the game in La, coach Jake Diebler talked about
another poor shooting day for OSU.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
I think we've run up against two teams who speed
you up and forced into the crowds and really attacked
your dribble. You know, there were a lot of times
today the ball was you know, we got the ball
in a good spot and we missed the kickout opportunity
right because we've bobbled it or got hit or we
couldn't get the put back. What we've seen is we
got a little sped up at times. I felt like

(01:02):
our shot selection this game was better. It wasn't good
enough last game. That's been a factor, but it was
better today against the team who really limits possessions. They
really grind out and limit possessions. But probably the way
we took care of the ball, and I thought we
had some really good looks you know that we'll we'll
make that we just got We just got to keep
shooting with confidence, and the ball was moving way better

(01:25):
than last game, way better against the team where it's
pretty hard to do that. So I thought that was
a good step forward.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
The Buckeyes will stay in LA. They're at USC Wednesday night.
Elsewhere the Big Ten, Indiana beat number thirteen Perdue seventy
three fifty eight, and Rutgers down to USC ninety five
eighty five. Around the State, Xavier a seventy three sixty
six win over Seaton haul, Youngstown State knocked off Green
Bay eighty one seventy seven. Cleveland State lost at Oakland

(01:52):
in overtime. The Ohio State women bounced back from a
Thursday loss at Indiana with a ninety eight forty six
beat down of Purdue. They'll host to number twenty two
Michigan State on Wednesday, turning to the Cavaliers, they ran
their winning streak to seven were they won twenty nine,
won twenty three home win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Big
night for Donovan Mitchell with thirty three, ty Jerome at

(02:15):
twenty six, Evan Mobley twenty five points, thirteen boards, and
eight assists. After the game, Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson said
the key to the game was the Cavaliers controlling the glass.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
We've been emphasizing it. It's just taken a while to
kick in, but we've been emphasizing it. Post all SAR,
we really made a focus with the guys win the
possession game because you're not going to shoot the ball
well all the time, especially in the playoffs. Sometimes you're
not going to shoot free throws well, like you know
tonight because you're defending so hard. I don't know where
they rank in the possession game. I'll bet you their

(02:48):
top three, but I think we were plus ten. That
was the difference because we did not We start out
two for twenty from three. So to win that game,
that was a playoff type win.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
With the wins keep a six game lead over Boston
atop the Eastern Conference and a half game lead over
