Speaker 1 (00:00):
Take a ride.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Good morning or evening wherever you may be. From the
Ozark Foothills in northeast Arkansas. I'm Carl Richardson and this
is Midnight Frequency Radio. Our guest this evening is Robert Monroe.
Robert is an author and expert on out of body experiences.
Robert has a PhD from Harvard, where he worked closely
(00:53):
with the poet Cemus Haney. A winner of the Nobel
Peace Prize in literature, Robert has won a war as
a writer, composer and filmmaker. He is developing books and
films on the poet W. B. Yates, his uncle, Robert Monroe,
and Edward Casey. His work has been noted by the
New York Times, Time Magazine, in the Washington Post, and
(01:18):
his words have reached an audience of hundreds of thousands. Robert,
Welcome to mid Night Frequency Radio.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Thank you, Carl. Good to talk with you. I'm really
happy to be a part of this.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Before I jumped straight in to the out of body
experience subject, where did you first get involved with it?
Back with your uncle and then progress forward with that.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Yeah, I knew him from when I was a kid
and they lived in Virginia, and we used to go
down to his place there, which was a beautiful house
in the rolling hills, and he was writing his first
book and had started to kind of investigate what was
happening with the out of body experience. So he built
(02:02):
a little lab in one of the outbuildings there and
was using sounds to help people get into very relaxed,
nice states. And so I actually was one of the subjects,
you know, maybe at eight or nine years old, and
I remember going in and it was nice and cool,
(02:25):
and there was a nice warm waterbed and you would
listen to headphones and listen to these very relaxing sounds.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
What is the process there is that I've heard people
discuss at first when you relaxed to that point that
you hear a vibration or fill of vibration.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Yeah, it can be a lot of different things. One
of the things that first happened with him was that
he would feel these vibrations. And this was all something
that he hadn't really sought out, you know, it just
happened to him at a time when there wasn't much
knowledge about it. So there can be a sense of
(03:06):
vibrations and you're listening basically to tones different frequencies, and
after you know, sort of doing it in his initial lab,
I went to what was the first gateway program that
they did in the new building at the in Row Institute,
(03:29):
which was the Nancy Penn Center, named after his wife,
and those sounds actually, by maybe the second or third time,
actually brought me into an outer body experience that doesn't
happen to everybody, but it did happen to me in
the first week of it.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
When you I guess departure body, is it your spirit
that's roaming or because I know you're not actually dying,
so it's just a separation from your spiritual self from
the body itself.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Yeah, it's a great question, you know, sort of the
what is it? You know, it's one people talk about.
I think you know one kind of neutral way to
talk about it. Is it? You know, it's your consciousness
or awareness. And one thing is that Bob and other
people thought that we kind of do this naturally when
(04:24):
we go to sleep. If you think about it, you know,
between waking and sleeping, they're kind of different steps of awareness,
and you can get to a place which you called
mind awake, body asleep. You're still sort of aware, but
your body seems asleep. So with an out of body experience,
(04:48):
the ideas that your awareness seems like it's somewhat apart
from the body. You know, it might be in another
part of the room. People look back and see their
body breathing there, So one could call it, you know,
that's kind of the big question, you know, is it awareness, consciousness,
the spirit, the soul? One could could you know, kind
(05:10):
of conceive of it in different ways.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
When you're out of your body, you're able to like leave,
say the house that you're in, or visit other areas,
say in a city, but you also have the ability
to cross over to I'm not sure what to call it,
a dimension where they have healing temples and things to that. Like,
(05:32):
that's what I've heard from other people that discuss the subject.
I'm just trying to get a better idea.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yeah, that's right. You can think of it as kind
of you know, traveling locally. And that's what Bob did
for you know, several years, and it actually took it
took him a year to convince himself that this was
a real phenomenon, and he would go visit his friends.
(05:58):
You know, his friends might be in San Francisco and
he was in Virginia and kind of, uh, you know,
see what they were doing, and then get back to
them and say, you know, were you doing this and
this at a particular hour. So for a long time
it was sort of local, you know, our our earthly dimension,
(06:21):
which was interesting for a while and then then became
you know, a little a little bit tedious because there
was only so much you could do. But at a
certain point he went into what he would call locale two,
which was, as he called it, a different, different energy
system and similar to our physical reality, but with differences,
(06:45):
you know, different technology, different society. But that that didn't
happen until later, and I haven't been really to that,
to that level of things. Mind have been more kind
of local.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Did he ever mentioned encounters of somewhat terrifying encounters on
the second level.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Yeah. At the beginning of the whole thing, you know,
he was it was fairly scary because really nothing was
known about it. You know, there were maybe literally like
two or three books about the outer body experience, so
there wasn't much to go on. It was kind of
for him to write the kind of classic books on it,
(07:33):
and initially he would there were things that happened that
scared him, and energies he encountered some of it. As
has been said in other traditions, he kind of ascribed
eventually to being his thoughts or his fears. And sometimes
it was kind of it could be kind of comical,
(07:54):
like one time he thought he was encountering these snakes,
and then after the experience, he looked at his cats,
Siamese cats, and he realized they had these snake like heads,
and he thought maybe it was you know, they had
been they had been out of body, and that's what
he had seen and been afraid of. But there was Yeah,
(08:17):
there was what he called a fear barrier, which he
learned to work with. And one of the things that
the institute programs. One of the things they do is
teach people the kind of affirmation that they'll be protected,
you know, from anything, and it seems to work that
people were much less fearful of it.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Well, I've heard from others, and I've heard people on
Art Bell Show in the past talk about if something
scares you in there, you're automatically sent back to your
body and wake up. Is that pretty much what your
uncle ran across.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
Yeah, that he had to deal with.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
You know.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
He called that sort of the fear barrier, and it,
as we know, you know, fear is often caused by
the unknown, if we don't know what something is. So
the way to get over it is just to become
more familiar. So after you know, dozens and hundreds of rons,
he you know, it was something he became familiar with
(09:22):
and therefore he knew what it was, wasn't afraid of it.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
You know, if he ever had an experience where he
had hands trying to grab his ankles and pull him down.
I've heard stories of that too. I'm not trying to
scare anybody off. I'm just if they decided to try
to get into this, they might know what to expect.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Yeah, it because so many people have done it, and
there's kind of like a protocol for doing it. Now
that's much less a part of it, and there is
this affirmation beginning I am more than my physical body,
(10:06):
and the end of it is, you know, sort of
asking for protection from any sorcer or influence that might
leave me with less than my stated desires. So it
has become kind of a well traveled route. So especially
for anybody using the guided meditations and audio exercises that
(10:32):
the Monroe Institute offers. It's a well worn path and
people seem to do it without encountering things that are fearful,
and in fact, it's usually a pretty joyful experience and
can be really blissful.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
On your first experience. Can you kind of give us
an idea of what it dealt with?
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Sure? Yeah, this was the at a Gateway workshop, which
is one of the programs kind of the initial opening
program that the Monroe Institute offers. People go for a week.
And I think it was about the second or third
time that I was listening and second or third exercise,
(11:20):
and I sensed that I was just moving out above
the building over the roof, that I could see what
the roof looked like. And the vision was a little
a little bit dim, you know, not all that sharp,
but you know, clear enough. And it was raining. And
(11:41):
the interesting thing is I could feel that rain drops
going through me. That's a poet that I worked with
had also had such an experience and he wrote a
book called Man Made of Rain, Brendan Connelly. So I
felt the rain drops going through me and all this,
you know, somewhat grayed out building and landscape, and I
(12:05):
was fortunate because, you know, Bob and his wife Nancy,
we were there, and I, you know, afterwards, went up
to their house and explained it to them what had happened.
And I was a little bit tentative, and he actually said,
you know, it's it's good to be a little skeptical,
you know that. Don't take our word for it, but
(12:28):
you know, it's kind of clear that they thought that's
what had happened. And after a few more I did.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
Your background with business and everything, did you discuss any
of this with business colleagues or if you did, what
kind of response did they get.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
I've done. I've done a little with business, and I've
taught business students and i'm you know, you know, I'm
also starting to give workshops using these the sounds which
get people into very relaxed states. But I guess one
thing I'd say on that topic, you know, is Bob
was was really a pretty good businessman and successful and
(13:11):
a radio broadcasting executive, and he had respect for business
and that, you know, business needs things to work to
be effective and will use things that are that prove themselves.
So initially he was he wondered what his business colleagues
(13:32):
would think of all this, but several of them found,
you know, that this stuff actually works, and they started
thinking about what can we what can we use it for?
So he was he was quite practical because of that background,
and wanted to bring what he had discovered two people
(13:54):
so that they could use it well.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
The listeners that really aren't dead familiar without a body space,
it says, Can you lay it out to them in
simple terms?
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Yeah, It's really an experience of having your awareness be
separate from your body to some degree. Could be in
the same room, you know, you could be brushing up
against the ceiling. You could move out of the building
and you know, into the countryside, and you may or
(14:26):
may not be aware of the consistency of what you
are at that at that point, but you're able to
move kind of by by thinking. And one of them mine,
you know, kind of began in the room that had
been his bedroom. I was there, staying there years after,
and moved up and out, and then I followed this
(14:49):
road down into the valley, and I looked sort of
into some of the shop windows there and in this town,
and then I went back up the hill that, you know,
back up into the room. And the next day I
went down and looked at that town, which I'd never
seen before, and there were some very distinctive things in
(15:11):
the window which were what I had seen when I
was out. There was a kind of stained glass picture
of a particular scene, and that's that's what I had
seen in the shop window.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
What separates an OBE from a lucid dream.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Yeah, that's a great question. You know, there are a
few of these different states of awareness that are worth
differentiating it. Within out of body experience, you really do
sense that you're away from the body, and it kind
of has a coherence and a continuity that dreams don't
(15:51):
normally have, and you know you're not dreaming. It's actually
very vivid, and you also tend to remember the experience
for for years, which you might not with a dream.
Elucid dream, it's closer to a dream. It's more that
you're dreaming, but you know you're dreaming, and some people
can control it a little bit.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
Is everyone capable of having an OBE or does it
require special ability.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Yeah, that's a great question. Bob thought that that people
did it often in sleep. You know, most people at
least maybe just about everybody, but that don't we just
don't remember it when we come back, so it's not conscious.
(16:38):
And I think there were some studies done that if
you asked people, they found that maybe about twenty percent
of people, if you ask them in the right way,
had had an out of body experience. And you know,
through my life I've met a lot of people who have,
so it's not uncommon. And a fair number of people
who listened to the to the Hemi Sync audio and
(17:01):
the Monroe Institute audio that he developed. You know, it's
not guaranteed, but a good number of people will and
with me, you know, that's what provoked the first conscious one.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Do you think fear plays a big part in preventing
people from being able to leave their body?
Speaker 3 (17:21):
It? It can, you know, let less less these days
it and sometimes there's a working with it, you know.
In sometimes in my with my own I've I've had
thoughts like, well, I want to try to get over
a lake or a body of water, so if I fall,
you know, fall into the water, so you're you're kind
(17:43):
of still thinking the way you would think if you
were in a body. Or other times I've tried to
sort of run and jump or you know, swim through
the air with my arms. But you know, part of
the beauty of doing workshops and groups is you know
you're doing it with groups of people, so there are
other people there who are experiencing this and talking about
(18:04):
it and thinking about it, and that that familiarity just
makes it. You know, one relaxes much more about it.
You start to realize nothing. You know, it's kind of
nothing to fear, but fear itself. You know that it's
most of it is mind to made manacles.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
As Blake said, I heard on another show once that
someone asks, is it possible to not get back to
your body? But this would be speculation anyway. If if
you found someone that seems to have passed away in
their sleep, how can you prove that they were having
an obe at the time, or but I've heard other
(18:44):
people comment about that, you have any thoughts on the matter.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
I've never heard of it happening. And the you know,
the movement in the outer body, it seems to be
kind of based on what one's what one wants, what
ones does ire is you know, if you want to
go see your friend, that's where you move to. So
there's a you know, we have a very strong thing
(19:08):
built into us that wants to keep alive, and so
normally somebody is going to want to get back to
the body, so it will that's what will happen. That's
where they will go. So self preservation kind of lead
you back home. And if anybody, you know, this is
kind of useful, if anybody ever gets into a state
(19:29):
where they're not quite sure what's going on, if you
just like wiggle, wiggle your little finger, you know, or
make some movement physically, that'll take you right back. You're
easier to get back then it is to get out.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Yeah. During an lbe have people mentioned seeing loved ones
that had passed away? Are they able to visit them
or have you run across any of that?
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Yeah, very much so, And uh they're there's a place
at the Institute of a kind of lab that you
can go into and listen and it's it's shield. It
has copper shielding around it, which makes it very peaceful.
And in some of the sessions I've done there, I
encountered my parents and Bob Monroe to some extent. But
(20:22):
it often is that often happens, and by the way
that happens a lot just in life. You know, a
high proportion of people who have lost a loved one
will will encounter them in some convincing way.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
I'd be afraid. I'm a Ham radio operator. Yeah, I'd
be afraid I'd have an OBE and get trapped in
one of my antennas or something it could get back.
That'd be terrible.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
Well that must be specific to Ham radio.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
I guess. So, yeah, we're all a little weird.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
Anyways, Bob did have one experience. Bob had an experience
where he was he found he was out and you
felt like he was up against this kind of very
large curved metal surface and he was trying to get
back and trying to get through this thing and he couldn't.
(21:22):
So he thought, well, what if I go the other way,
you know, don't try to push through it, go the
other direction, and that that brought him back.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
If someone suffering from an illness, is it possible to
get healed when you're in an olbe Are there, like
I think I mentioned earlier, are there killing temples or
stuff that you can visit while you're on your OBA
experience that can heal physical issues?
Speaker 3 (21:56):
Yes, there's some, there're kind of different Focus levels, which
is what they call them, areas that you can go to,
and there's one called Focus twenty seven which is a
lot of it is sort of has the appearance of
a park and living people can go there, and also
(22:17):
people who have passed can be there. And there's a
part of it that is sort of a healium and
regeneration center, so one can kind of learn to visit
that and people have gotten good results. And also a
lot of the you know, the exercises, the whether you
(22:41):
listen on a download or CD to these audio exercises,
a lot of them can be quite good for health.
And when I was at the institute recently, I went
and did sech and listen to the sounds, and you know,
when I came back, people said, oh, look completely different.
(23:01):
You know, you'd had a long ride before, you look tired,
and your face looks completely different now. So they can
feel really wonderful, you know, blissful states, and that can
have quite a good effect on health. And they have
programs to work with things called energy medicine. So the
(23:24):
idea is that when you get in, you get into
a more expanded state of awareness and you're kind of
drawing on more of who you are, so it tends
to open up abilities, and some of these can be
abilities to help your own health or help somebody else.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
You mentioned at the start of the show that a
lot of us do this while we're asleep and we're
not even aware of it. Is that the case.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
That that seems to be? You know what people have studied,
it tend to fall and you know, we were sleep
a long time, and we might remember a little bit
in dreams, but a lot is going on. You know,
our society tends to think that, you know, waking consciousness
(24:16):
is the thing, and we don't pay much attention to
like the sort of steps between waking and sleeping and dreams.
But other cultures will pay more attention to dreams and
what happens when your drawsy you're sleeping.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Have you run across anyone that's had an OBE that's
come into contact with alien consciousness our dimensional travelerge like that.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Yeah, that's as part of what happened with Bob is
he kept doing this. It's sort of as if he
expanded outward to different energy systems and different demands and
on the way he began to see that, as he said,
you know, it's populated. There are other energies and consciousnesses
(25:09):
out there. So some of these he identified as as
possibly passed lives that he had lived in other parts
of himself. But he didn't counter other intelligences. And you know,
one kind of humorous thing. He liked anagrams, and he
(25:31):
called these intelligent species, and that kind of implied that
maybe maybe us humans weren't all head developed, you know, yeah,
so that there might be other consciousnesses awareness is out there,
there might be more developed than us in some ways.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
What patterns are consistencies have you observed across the different
people having obse it?
Speaker 3 (25:56):
It does. It takes takes away the fear of sometimes,
you know, pretty completely, and I think it also tends
to make people more altruistic. I mean they have actually
studied this and done surveys on it, research, more altruistic,
(26:17):
more compassionate, sometimes more concerned about the earth, you know
in ecology, probably more trusting, more open, more secure. And
it verges over into the near death experience, you know,
where people who have kind of been clinically life seems
(26:39):
to have stopped in their body, but they come back
to it and they have sometimes wonderful experiences and that
produces some of the same things.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
How did your work lead to the creation of the
Monroe Institute.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
My uncle's work led to it really in steps. At first,
he was just trying to figure out what was happening
to him because he hadn't you know, sought out these
out of body experiences. There wasn't much written about it.
He kind of had to figure it out, so he
wanted to study it in himself and then other, you know,
people who volunteered, and one of their first things was
(27:18):
to get people relaxed because they were kind of aiming
for that sweet spot between being awake and being asleep.
And he found he could use sound to help people
get really relaxed, and they were good at it. You know,
they had a lot of expertise and sound because he'd
done all this radio production. So as they were working
(27:44):
with that, they started to use other things like binormal beats,
and they discovered sound patterns that pretty pretty predictably and
reliably got people into expanded states of awareness, places between
sleep and being awake. So he realized, you know, he
(28:06):
was getting people in expanded states and that they were useful,
you know, they could do things with them, and there was,
there was a demand for it. People were curious and
they wanted to do this, so they began to offer
workshops in different places. But then he and his wife Nancy,
you know, kind of realized it would be helpful if
(28:28):
they had like a setting where people could come to
that was you know, calm and where things were set
up to do this. You know, it's very subtle work.
You need to be relaxed. So they realized it would
help to have a center where people would come.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Do you think science will eventually prove consciousness can exist
outside of the body?
Speaker 3 (28:54):
Yeah, Also that is a great question. To some extent,
I think it's been done, and I think it's happening.
Most a lot of people wouldn't realize this, but there
is a lot there's a lot of pretty sound scientific
work showing that there are things like telepathy and that
people can know things at a distance. There are things
(29:15):
like remote viewing that have been practical, and you know,
you were talking about business. Businesses, the military have used
remote viewing. There's a lot happening looking at telepathy now.
So there is pretty good scientific evidence that there are
people who can consistently know what's going on outside the
(29:40):
outside of their sensory neighborhood. So kind of the old
idea of kind of the brain in a box and
that everything is material, there is now a lot of
scientific evidence that that theory can't explain, and there are actually,
(30:03):
like quite quite a few pretty serious scientists who are
convinced of this and convinced or at least willing to
entertain the idea.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Do you think the government still working with people that
can do remote viewing nowadays or have they kind of
stepped away from that?
Speaker 3 (30:21):
Well, what do you think, Carl, if they were, would
they tell us, well.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
Of course not say lie to us all the time
of me with the work of like Ed Dames, I'm
sure you're familiar with him, is working with the government
in the past.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
Yeah, and Joe mcmonagall, who is the son in law
of Bob Monroe, my cousin, and I think officially they
said it was they ended it's partly because they you know,
it's not one hundred percent nothing is so that it
(31:06):
raises the question can they act on it? But they
had a lot of successes with it. Whether it's still running,
I don't know, but they did a lot with it.
You know, they found hostages and missing planes they identify.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
You know, I wouldn't put it past them. They're using
it right now with this situation that's going on with
that rack, But of course they wouldn't tell us that.
Speaker 3 (31:32):
So yeah, I think there was a situation where there
was a group of hostages in that part of the
world that were located by a remote feeling. And if
you look at Joe mcmonagall's books, it's pretty startling, you know,
when they get it right, Like you'll identify a machine
(31:54):
and it'll draw it so precisely that you could build
the machine from that drawing.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
Well, at this point, I think I'm going to take
my first break here and then we can come back
and continue on without any more interruptions.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
Thank you, she could lift you up, she could let
you down.
Speaker 4 (32:21):
Strange charm between thank you, the wheel within up with them.
Speaker 5 (32:42):
With this is Dark Matter News. I'm Joshua Stark. Microsoft
researchers say they've made significant progress on a futuristic data
storage technology that records digital information inside glass, known as
(33:04):
Project Silica. The system uses ultrafast lasers to carve microscopic
structures within a small plate of glass, encoding data and
three dimensions deep inside the material. Unlike traditional storage methods
such as hard drives or magnetic tape, which degrade over time,
(33:25):
glass storage is designed to last for thousands of years.
The etch structures are extremely stable and can withstand heat, water, radiation,
and electromagnetic interference, making the data far more durable than
conventional archives. One of the latest breakthroughs involves simplifying the
(33:46):
technology and lowering its cost. Earlier versions relied on specialized
fused silica glass, but researchers have now shown that the
process works with common borosilicate glass US, the same type
used in everyday cookware. Engineers have also streamlined the writing
and reading systems, allowing data to be recorded more efficiently.
(34:11):
Information is stored in hundreds of microscopic layers inside the
glass and later read using optical imaging combined with machine
learning software that interprets the tiny patterns created by the laser.
While the system is still being refined, the goal is
to create extremely long lasting archival storage for cloud data centers.

Speaker 2 (37:19):
To us. All right, welcome back to Midnight Frequency Radio
and our guests Robert Monroe. And i'd like to thank
Robert for supplying the bumper music going into and out
of that break.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
Thank you for playing it, and.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
If you like to later towards the end of the show,
you're welcome to give out where people can go and
listen and download.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
Also, okay, yeah, I one website is just Bob Monroe.
That's m O N R O E dot org org.
And I'm starting to give workshops to help people use
the the sound technology. They're Monroe Institute Outreach Workshops, So
(38:06):
anyone interested can find out about that at that site too.
Speaker 2 (38:11):
You've describe different levels and locales during an obe. What
are they like?
Speaker 3 (38:18):
You know? For myself so far, it's been sort of
mostly local, you know, in other words, just going around
our earthly environment, you know. And what can happen when people,
you know, listen to the sounds is basically you're getting
(38:39):
into states of awareness that you know, you might get
to through meditation, but it might take years to do that,
and listening to the sounds you can get there, you know,
sometimes within minutes much more quickly. So it varies a lot.
And I think, you know, Bob went really to some
(39:02):
very far places and some environments that you know, were
kind of like the Earth, but maybe with different species,
with you know, beings and creatures there that who were
intelligent and could communicate sometimes could communicate nonverbally through thought.
And another part of it was was kind of encountering
(39:24):
different parts of the self that can happen in these
states of awareness. And at a certain point he hadn't
really thought in terms of past lives, but there were
some things that happened that it convinced him. And there's
one kind of good story I can tell you about
it if you like, Oh, sure, go ahead. He had
(39:46):
just built the there's a tower in the one of
the buildings in the institute, six sided tower, and he
had just built this. And around the same time, my
parents had gone to Scotland where there's a Monroe Castle,
and so my dad sent Bob, Bob's his brother, sent
(40:09):
him pictures of this castle and there was a tower
there that really had exactly the same dimensions as the
one Bob had just designed and built. Bob was a
great kind of renaissance man and architected and built the center. So,
you know, this really surprised them both because Bob had
never seen the place in Scotland, and in his kind
(40:32):
of travels he had sort of gotten the message that
in a former life, in a past life, they said,
you know, you were yourself, and he didn't know what
that meant. But he then heard that the tower in
Scotland hundreds of years ago had been built by somebody
named Robert Monroe, and so he kind of concluded, maybe,
(40:56):
you know, maybe that was him in a former life.
He sort of remembered and recreated it. So both he
and my dad, who was a doctor, both of them
fairly skeptical people, began to think about, you know, maybe
past lives or a thing and.
Speaker 2 (41:17):
Your experience, what is the most shocking or unforgettable thing
that you've encountered outside of your body.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
Yeah, that actually ties into the question about sort of
other intelligence and also this idea of former lives and
parts of this self. Bob had this idea of what
he called the eye there, which was kind of the
collection of your former existences, and he thought for him
(41:48):
that that could be over two thousand. So one thing
that happened with me, which was actually happened in his
room when I was in there years years later, when
I began to go out of the body, I felt
other presences there and also felt that they were like
(42:08):
very joyful and happy that I was kind of doing this,
that I was coming out. And at that time I thought, well,
you know, is that is that Bob? Is that people
from the institute? Is that you know, just some some
folks who are out floating around, And lately I've thought maybe,
you know, maybe that was that's other parts of myself
(42:31):
or you know, my my whole self or greater self
and they're happy to see me. So that sense of
other presences there, and then in a place near the
institute a kind of feeling one time, almost as if
this arm it kind of reached in and pulled me out.
Speaker 2 (42:49):
What are some of the biggest myths that you've run
across that people have about OBEs.
Speaker 3 (42:56):
I guess one thing that really kind of expands once is,
and this is a good thing for anybody to take
from this, it's just the idea that we are, you know,
much more than we usually think we are. You know,
we're kind of running around and our usual everyday way
of thinking, but our actual awareness is operating on other
(43:22):
levels all the time. James von Prague, who's very good
on this sort of thing, has an idea that, you know,
maybe we're like forty percent here and sixty percent kind
of in the more ethereal or spiritual realms. So I think,
(43:43):
you know, it's kind of a myth that we are
just you know, what we experience through our senses, just
material beings. So that's kind of one of Bob's maybe
his most quoted line is you know, I am more
than my physical body. So I guess materialism is a
(44:03):
pretty big myth.
Speaker 2 (44:05):
What techniques do you recommend for beginners trying to have
an OBE?
Speaker 3 (44:12):
It's more than just ob you know, it's exploring consciousness.
But one way to do all of that is to
kind of listen to the sound patterns that the Monroe
Institute has developed, and that's called Monroe Sound Science. And
in the past you kind of had to go there
(44:34):
to get to the Institute to get the more powerful
ones because they don't really want people doing it unsupervised,
you know, because you can get into new experiences. They
want somebody there who knows about it. But what's happening
now is I'm actually offering outreach workshops so people can
(44:58):
can experience these sounds with you know, me as a
facilitator and working with these sounds to explore what can
happen without a body experience possibly or just getting a
bigger sense of who they are and exploring that. So
(45:19):
I'm going to be doing that in person and also online,
so people can get in touch with me at Bob
Monroe dot org, m O n R o E dot
org and you know, I'll talk. There are various ways
to get started with it, and I'm happy to talk
with people about the different ways to do that interested
(45:42):
they can get in touch.
Speaker 2 (45:44):
I don't want to get into any proprietary stuff with
your with your organization, But what particular sound frequencies seem
to help best to induce an ob It's.
Speaker 3 (45:58):
Often a mix of frequencies. And you know this has
all come like from decades of research, So it's not
kind of one frequency. There has to be kind of
a sequence of them and in the right sequence to
get people into a state where where it's likely to happen.
(46:20):
Some of them are they have different focus levels, Like
there's Focus ten, which is sort of a mind awake,
body asleep, and then you can go to Focus twelve,
which has expanded awareness, and then there's Focus twenty one,
which is kind of the meeting of like our physical
experience with the more expanded dimensions, and that one might
(46:46):
be a place they do. You know, they offer programs
that are specifically out of body experience, but the kind
of the gateway, as it's called, is kind of the
gateway where you learn some techniques and states of awareness
that can help you to kind of creep up on
the dimensions where you might have out of body experiences.
(47:08):
So I'm not being evasive, it is it's not just
one frequency. It's going to be like a combination of
them and also the patterns, the sound patterns that you
will get you up to that threshold.
Speaker 2 (47:24):
What role does hemi sync technology play in facil facilitating
these experiences.
Speaker 3 (47:31):
Yeah, hemi sync is it stands for hemispheric synchronization, which
means that when they develop these sound patterns, they found
that the two hemispheres of the brain would they would synchronize,
they would start to work together and have the same patterns.
(47:52):
You know, the mind and brain is always working with
frequencies and tones, and what they found is if they
put slightly different slight tone in one ear and a
slightly different one in the other ear, the brain will
in the mind will actually subtract those two frequencies and
set up a third one. And the reason that's interesting
(48:15):
is some of the frequencies you want to work with
are actually below what the ear can hear. Normally, the
ear doesn't hear below twenty cycles per second. But if
you put in say one hundred and one ear and
one hundred and four in the other ear, the brain
(48:36):
will subtract those and set up a wave of four
and interesting things happen in the lower frequencies, you know,
four or five, six hurts. You get a lot of
alpha brain waves, and so these these tones help lead
people into very relaxed states. It's kind of playing a
(48:57):
little trick with how our perception works, but it very
consistently will get people into a state that might have
taken years of meditation to get to. In fact, there
was an article on the front page of the Wall
Street Journal about Bob and the institute, and the head
(49:22):
of a monastery of Buddhist monastery had come and tried
it out, and he said, you know what usually takes
us years to get to, you're getting people too in
a week. So it's a way of using the sound
pattern HEMI sync Monroe sound science that very predictably gets
(49:44):
people into deep relaxation and expanded states of awareness. And
they stumbled onto it kind of serendipitously. I can I
can say how that happened, if you like, sure feel funny.
(50:04):
I mean, it's kind of cute because it was one
of the engineers that Bob was working with was reading
Scientific American, which is the thing they kind of totally
told us to do in high school, you know, read
Scientific American, and he read an article about binaural beats,
which is that that pattern of putting different frequencies into
(50:30):
the two ears, and he just thought, yeah, maybe we
could use this to relax people. And they tried it
and it worked, so that they've been developing other things
and that went together with that to create this.
Speaker 2 (50:46):
Do you feel consciousness survives after death physical death?
Speaker 3 (50:52):
I do. And when you've kind of had the visceral
experiences of this, it's like you're very convinced of it.
It's like you've been to New York and you know
they have yellow taxi cabs there, and if somebody tried
to convince you that's not true, you wouldn't really pay
(51:14):
much mind. I had an experience which was sort of
separate from the institute stuff. But there was somebody I
knew at Harvard who was very beloved figure. He was
a minister and the orchestra leader, and one night I
(51:34):
just felt his presence brush along my body. I felt
his beard, and I thought, I know who that is.
And the next morning I found out he had passed
just at that time. So when you've had a few
(51:55):
things like that, or if you've kind of entered outside
your own body, it's you know, it really is experience,
and it's it's it's important thing to say about what
Bob did is, you know, it's it's great to speculate
about this stuff and have ideas about it and talk.
You know, that's it's a very good thing to do.
(52:18):
But then actually experiencing it, it's it's it's a different thing.
And his experiences were you know, quite far beyond and
more frequent than many people have had.
Speaker 2 (52:32):
If your experience has changed your view on reality.
Speaker 3 (52:36):
Yeah, I think when you have a few of these
things really happens. The kind of old paradigm, the old
way of looking at things that you realize it just
doesn't do anymore. I mean, you know, I've been through
the different things like I've had there there was a
time when I would dream something and then it would happen,
(52:59):
you know, very clearly. So the idea that your awareness
is just in one spot and just at one time,
if that gets kind of blown to bits, you start asking, well,
you know, what else could be out there? So at
this point I'm very curious about we really only see
only a small slice of reality, even with vision or hearing.
(53:22):
It's a very small slice of the electromagnetic waveforms that
are out there, and there are things like dark matter physics,
things that we don't really understand. So often people have
the idea that we kind of have most of the answers,
and I think there's so much more to be discovered,
which is why it's a good thing there shows like yours,
(53:45):
you know, for people to come and explore and talk
about things.
Speaker 2 (53:48):
Here's the million dollar question I've got. If everyone could
have an OBE, how would it change humanity?
Speaker 3 (53:55):
Ah, that is a great question. And I think if
you know, if one generation meditated a lot or changed
its viewpoint, it might do it for good. You know,
as John Lennon said, we don't just want peace right now,
we want it from now on. You know, one idea
that I like of my uncle's, is there kind of
(54:16):
two systems. There's what do you call the earth life system,
which is just the physical bodies perpetuating themselves. And we
have very strong drives to stay alive, and we also
have drives to accumulate things and reproduce and you know,
kind of look out for number one as part of
that programming. But that's not all of who we are.
(54:41):
You know. There's another part which is bigger and is
more aware of other people and other creatures. And if
you identify more with being an energetic being or with
your spirit. It's going to make you more broad minded,
and I think more more compassionate towards other people, and
(55:05):
a less less inquisitive and less wrapped up in things.
You know, a lot of our problems come from being
too attached to the material. And if you can expand
that awareness of who you are and who we all
are and what we're doing here on earth, people become kinder.
And I'll tell you, I really think, you know, kindness,
(55:29):
even little acts of kindness, could alleviate a lot of
the world's concerns.
Speaker 2 (55:35):
I agree with that one hundred percent.
Speaker 3 (55:37):
Yeah, it's amazing how many people do. If you ask around,
you know, what's the thing we really need more of
the people will come up, Yeah, kindness.
Speaker 2 (55:47):
Less arguing, and more understanding. So what is the ultimate
purpose of these experience?
Speaker 3 (55:54):
Do you feel of kind of expanded awareness that sort
of experience.
Speaker 2 (56:00):
Or just the main purpose? I guess of the ilbes.
Speaker 3 (56:06):
I think it's part of, you know, kind of remembering
the extent of our being, how extensive it is, how
much larger it is than our usual idea of ourselves.
And there's a very big picture of which is common
to a lot of ways of thinking, which Bob found
(56:29):
that we sort of come from a kind of unity,
and we come and experience this Earth, but in some
way we're going to go back to it. You know,
however you perceive that whole and one of his ideas
is we kind of get a little bit addicted to
Earth experience, so that part of us really wants to
go back and to go home. So these experiences can
(56:53):
start to wake up that larger awareness and that desire.
Speaker 2 (56:58):
I've got some quick rand own questions for you, but
you don't have to answer them quickly if you want
to expand on them. The most beautiful place you've visited
outside your body?
Speaker 3 (57:10):
Well, just in the in the past week, I've actually
gone back to listening to the Minrue Institute sounds and
downloads and m P three's, and it's been really pretty blissful.
You know. I think a lot of people have been.
The last few months have been kind of stressful on
(57:31):
planet Earth. And anybody who needs to kind of take
a vacation.
Speaker 2 (57:38):
Lord, I need one. I need to talk to you
about that.
Speaker 3 (57:41):
Yeah, ring me up. Yeah, Bob Monroe dot Org. Anybody
who wants to take a nice forty five minute vacation,
tell you how to do it. So the you know
in a funny way that the answer to that question
is the most beautiful place is like a really wonderful
(58:03):
state of my own awareness. You know, it's like personal
peace being in that frame. So it's almost more the
frame of mind than what you're looking at. But I
have had, you know, yeah, beautiful kind of excursions to
the place called Focus twenty one, which is very can
(58:23):
be a lot of different things, beautiful natural scenes.
Speaker 2 (58:27):
This question would be your scariest moment. I think that
we kind of covered this earlier, but yeah.
Speaker 3 (58:34):
Not too scary. A little bit of anxiety about you know,
should I get over some water in case I fall?
But you kind of realize that your it's just the
habit of thinking in the body, so I don't. It's
almost totally positive. I don't.
Speaker 2 (58:52):
Yeah, nothing bad. One thing people get completely wrong about OBEs.
Speaker 3 (58:58):
That probably the that's that it's unusual that it's rare,
because I one idea to think of awareness is that
it's like a radio dial, and most of the time
you're tuned in on one station, but you can tune
too different ones and if you go to sleep, you're
tuned to a different station. If you're on the way
(59:19):
to sleep, you're kind of going through several frequencies literally frequencies,
and we're actually going we're going into expanded states of
awareness all the time. So it's not unusual. This is
the whole thing that's just giving you a little more
control over them. So if you want to lose a dream,
(59:40):
you can learn to do that. There are programs for that.
Feel more peaceful, more relaxed, more calm, you can do that.
Speaker 2 (59:53):
Can you meet other living people during an obe?
Speaker 3 (59:56):
Yeah, And that's actually one of the things that kind
of convinced them early on is you know people, uh
sometimes at programs at the institute, would you know, they
would go out and they would they would meet, they
would go different places and come back and they would say,
you know, yes I did one, two, three, four, five
(01:00:18):
and seven, and the other person would you know sometimes
independently write that down and they would find that they
had they had done the same things. So people do,
and indeed, to get somewhere, the thing to do is,
you know, with with their permission, of course, you know,
(01:00:39):
you must think of a friend or somebody that you
want to go to and you will be drawn to
what Bob called their ident or their identification. You're drawn
to the energy and that that works better than trying
to like navigate a landscape or a city.
Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
Are we more than our physical bodies?
Speaker 3 (01:01:00):
Well, I think a lot of people have concluded that
and feel that intuitively and all of that, all of
this is kind of a way to find that out
in a more experiential way, a more concrete way. I'm
pretty sure that's the case, and knowing that is very reassuring.
Speaker 2 (01:01:23):
You know, and I say this part, you can discuss
what you wish. I know. It says in your bio
that you're working on some movies and other projects. Would
you like to fill us in on some of those?
Speaker 3 (01:01:37):
Sure? Yeah, I will have I hope a novel coming
out this year, and working on a book about my uncle.
And I've written a screenplay a movie script about the
poet William Butler Yates and his circle. He was an
(01:01:59):
Irish poet and around the early nineteen hundreds. And I'm
also starting to give workshops, outreach workshops for the Monroe Institute.
So if anybody's interested in learning to use those sounds,
you can get in touch with me. And as I said,
(01:02:21):
in the past, you had to go to the Institute
to get to use some of the more powerful sound patterns.
But now with this outreach workshop, you don't have to
go there, and I'll be doing it in person, and
we can do it online. You can also do it individually,
which is good because the institute has really been thriving
(01:02:44):
and their programs, the residential programs are booked I think
more than a year in advance, So if you want
to start to learn about this stuff, this is a
good opportunity to kind of get your feet wet and
try out without it having to make a huge trip.
Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
Apparently you enjoy creating music and songs. That's that's an
interesting I'm not much I'm a musician or gifted in
that area.
Speaker 3 (01:03:13):
Well, yeah, I think that's another thing, like most of
us are musicians, and we just don't realize that. I
was lucky because my mother was quite good at the piano.
So I grew up hearing a lot of music, and
my sisters were listening to good music, and I seem
to absorbed it so that I can come up with
(01:03:34):
melodies that people seem to like and the best thing
to do is I could get a good singer to
sing them, some good musicians. I've seen it. It can
move people and have an effect which is very gratifying.
So I'd love to do that. I think a lot
about people like Paul McCartney and John Lennon, Jonny Mitchell,
(01:03:57):
that era of songwriters.
Speaker 2 (01:04:00):
I involved it with music. It's mostly karaoke, and I
recommend I recommend headphones or earplugs when I'm trying to sing.
Speaker 3 (01:04:11):
Well. Karaoke is great fun.
Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
Yeah, my daughter just goes outside when I start.
Speaker 3 (01:04:18):
Saying I think karaoke that the key is picking a
song and it's manageable.
Speaker 2 (01:04:27):
Yeah, and see I'm I'm a drought and for punishment,
I normally pick stuff like Journey, Kansas, Boston, everything out
of my range.
Speaker 3 (01:04:39):
That'll that'll do it. Those those guys were great singers.
I met one of them, I think the second Journey.
Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
Singer, Jerry Jerry o' terry or something to that effect.
Speaker 3 (01:04:53):
Yeah, yeah, you've got it. Very nice guy. Oddly enough,
I've spoken to some of these people like Brian Wilson
of the Beach Boys, who is it such a genius,
James Taylor and Paul Simon. So it's great to find
(01:05:14):
out these people are all their cracks after me.
Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
Well, trying to be a lead singer for Journey is
hazardous to your voice. I mean you look at you know,
Steve Perry. He can still sing, but he cannot hit
the stuff that he used to. And then Arnold Panita,
the Filipino, it's their lead man right now. He has
been with them for longer than Steve Perry was, and
(01:05:38):
he's starting to feel the effects of singing all that
high stuff every evening.
Speaker 3 (01:05:45):
Yeah, that's gotta be tough. Of course, it's better than
being the drummer because they have the risk of spontaneous combustions.
Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
Yes, that's a subject coming up on one of my notes.
Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
You're going to have some time to talk about that one. Yeah,
that's coming up in a few weeks on.
Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
Your Yeah, I'm looking forward to that one. I'm gonna
ask once again you want to give your web addresses
and contact information for people that would like to get
in touch with you about the institute.
Speaker 3 (01:06:20):
Sure, thank you. Yeah, it's Bob Monroe dot org, b
O b m O. N Roe dot r G. And
you can also email me. It's just Robert Monroe twenty
(01:06:44):
thirteen at gmail dot com. And I'm happy to talk
with anybody just about ways to you know, take an
outreach workshop. There's one coming up Qualita exploring Consciousness. We're
just you know, there are different levels to plug into
this stuff. I can direct people just say, you know,
(01:07:08):
you know, try try this online exercise or you know,
download this one. Some of it's free, some of you
have to pay a little for some is more about
a one or two day workshop. And also I'm happy
just to consult with people one on one who have
questions about this. I know it's worked for me my
(01:07:31):
whole life, so I'm quite happy to share it. You know,
it just feels good to It's like if you have
a restaurant or go someplace that you know is wonderful,
you want to tell other people about it.
Speaker 2 (01:07:45):
Now, when you release your book on your uncle, feel
free to contact me and we'll bring you on the
air and we can kind of promote that for you.
Speaker 3 (01:07:54):
Thank you, Thank you so much. And interesting like fiction,
you know, novels are going more into this sort of material.
I know one by Dan Brown just ventured into this.
And one of my friends is quite a great writer,
Robert Toland Butler. He's written about fourteen novels, and some
(01:08:17):
of his stuff is, you know, kind of speculative and
getting into interesting territory. So something is happening with fiction,
and that comes a little bit into my novel, which
is a story of two violinists, two musicians who are
interested in the same woman who's a composer. But there's
a supernatural element as well, and a ghost. So it's
(01:08:42):
kind of music, family love and a bit of speculative
or supernatural angle, spiritual angle, you might say.
Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
Any other thing you'd like to leave our listeners with.
Speaker 3 (01:08:54):
Great thank you for having me on. I'm great glad
to connect to what you're doing and continuing the approach
of art Bell and we all continue to learn so
much from but I.

Know on our end of the family, we sure miss him.
I miss him calling from time to time and we
catch up or had on occasion a number of vacasions,
gone out and visited it in for Rump. He had
the guest house there, so we would go out and
stay for a week at a time or so and
(01:09:28):
play radio, ham radio and other things around. Rump was
an interesting city.
Speaker 3 (01:09:37):
Absolutely. I should also just give the website for the
Monroe Institute, which is it's simply Monroe Institute dot Org.
Speaker 2 (01:09:50):
Robert Well, I appreciate you being honor. It's been an
honor and like I say, I look forward to having
you back. I wish you the best for the rest
of your weekend into coming work week.
Speaker 3 (01:10:02):
Thank you. This was great to have this conversation.
Speaker 2 (01:10:05):
All right, sir, Thank you, and you have a good evening.
Speaker 3 (01:10:09):
You too, be well.
Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
All right, bye bye.
Speaker 8 (01:10:17):
I've just closed my eyes again, climbed aboard the dream

This is Dark Matter News. I'm Josh was Stark. NASA
has announced major changes to its Artemis program, delaying the
long planned return of astronauts to the lunar surface and
restructuring upcoming missions. The agency says the shift is intended
to reduce risk and deal with technical delays that have
(01:11:18):
slowed development of key systems. Under the revised plan, the
Artemis three mission will no longer attempt at moon landing. Instead,
the twenty twenty seven mission will stay closer to Earth
and focus on testing crucial technology. Astronauts will practice docking
the Orion spacecraft with commercial lunar landers being developed by
(01:11:41):
private companies, allowing engineers to validate complex procedures before committing
to a landing attempt. The first crude lunar landing of
the Artemis program is now expected to happen during Artemus four,
currently targeted for twenty twenty eight. This is dark matter news.

The Bible describes men's thoughts in the last days as
deeply corrupted, selfish, and rebellious against God, marked by perilous times.
In reverse speech, the Fulfillment of Prophecy, David John Oates
goes beyond psychology and linguistics to ask a deeper question.
(01:12:23):
Did scripture anticipate a time when hidden words would be revealed?
Drawing from the Bible, the Gospels, revelation, and ancient spiritual traditions,
this book examines recurring themes long overlooked, the voice of
the heart, words that testify against us, secrets proclaimed from
(01:12:43):
the housetops, sealed books opened at the appointed time, and
the two edged sword that proceeds from the mouth. David
Oates argues that these are not merely poetic metaphors, but
descriptions of a revelatory process now made visible through mais

Researchers with the Seti Institute say one reason scientists may
have missed signals from extraterrestrial civilizations is that those signals
could be distorted before they even escape their home star systems.
Most searches for alien technology focus on extremely narrow radio
signals because artificial transmissions are expected to stand out from
(01:13:35):
natural cosmic noise, But new research suggests that turbulent plasma
around stars could smear or broaden those signals so that
they travel through space near their source. Stellar activities such
as flares and strong stellar winds can fill nearby space
with dense turbulent plasma. When radio waves pass through the
(01:14:00):
these unstable regions, their frequencies can spread out slightly. By
the time that the signal reaches Earth, what was once
a sharp neurotransmission could appear weaker and more diffuse, making
it harder for current detection methods to identify. To investigate
(01:14:20):
the effect, researchers studied how radio signals from spacecraft behave
when passing through plasma in our own Solar system. Using
those observations, they modeled how similar conditions around distant stars
might alter signals traveling across interstellar space. The findings suggest
(01:14:42):
that some alien transmissions could already be reaching Earth, but
appear to spread out for current search algorithms to recognize.
Scientists say future SETI searches may need to look for
broader signals.

That's it for dark matter news.
