Speaker 1 (00:01):
My big foot sighting happened in nineteen ninety two. My
name is Dave. I'm from Mountain Iron, Minnesota. In nineteen
ninety two, I was living with my family in Stillwater, Minnesota,
and it was a family hunting trip that weekend. There
was me and my dad, my uncle, and one of
(00:24):
my cousins were all up there. It was land that
my family had a tradition of going back to every
year near Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The local paper company owns
an eleven thousand acre piece there. It's all beautiful rolling hills,
lots of hardwood trees, just a beautiful tranquil setting for
(00:47):
a fall day. It was out eventful morning. I didn't
see any deer, and then about nine thirty in the morning,
I could see across a cut at the bottom of
the hill. I was up on a ridgetop in a
sixteen foot ladder stand deer hunting, and I could see
(01:08):
a pickup truck about a mile away starting to come
down a logging road again at the bottom of the hill.
This was a fresh cut that they had logged off,
and so I could see the pickup truck coming. In
the box of the pickup truck had about eight guys
in there looking like they were going to do what's
(01:30):
known as a deer drive, where a whole group of
guys will get out in one location, spread out and
then walk through the woods to some other people that
are standing waiting for the deer to come running out
of the woods. Well, they got about halfway across the
clearing that I could see, so they were maybe a
half mile at the most away and down below the
(01:53):
bottom of the hill. I couldn't see the very bottom
of the hill where I was sitting, but I could
hear a no. Always that wasn't like deer walking it was.
It was definitely something that seemed heavier and I got
ready though, thinking maybe it's a great big buck coming
up over the top of the hill, and instead what
(02:16):
I saw is just amazing. I could see the top
of the head come over the crest of the hill
first as it was coming up, and this this thing
that I saw, well, it was just it was just massive.
It was about ceiling height in a house, so I'm
(02:38):
guessing it was eight foot tall. But it wasn't like
the Jacklink commercial Bigfoot. It wasn't Chewbacca from Star Wars.
It was something that had hair over its entire body,
but yet there was hatches where you could see through
(02:59):
the hair. It didn't have huge canine teeth. At this point,
I'm only probably thirty yards away from this thing, and
it's walking across the hill, and at first it's paying
more of attention to the pickup truck down in that
clearing than it was to me, and I'm coming apart
(03:21):
in the tree. I actually did raise my rifle up
and actually was looking at this thing like I was
going to shoot it, because I was terrified. And then
when it turned and looked at me, the face was
so human like that there was no way that I
could have possibly shot this thing. And then the weirdest
(03:45):
thing happened was that it was almost like it communicated
with me through telepathy, and a calm came over me,
like it had told me I'm not going to hurt you.
And it kept looking back over its shoulder towards me,
and as it was walking away, this thing was just massive.
(04:10):
I mean, I don't know what I could compare it
to the biggest offensive lineman but yet much taller I
guess from the NFL. But the type of thing that
even to this day, I feel like if I would
have shot it, it probably wouldn't have made a huge
amount of difference. That thing could have been on top
(04:30):
of me very quickly. And as I watched this thing
walk away, that's when I completely came apart. Fear overtook
me again. When it was out of sight where it
walked over the hill goes down into a ravine and
(04:51):
it's sticked down in there, and I could hear it
walking away, but I couldn't see it anymore. And that's
like I said, when I came totally apart, and I
got down from the tree, probably fifteen minutes after that,
when I could compose myself enough to safely climb down,
and I walked back to the pickup truck. And at
(05:14):
this time, probably it was about ten thirty. By the
time I made it back to the truck, my dad
arrived back at the pickup truck where we normally met
up every day for lunch before we went back out
for the afternoon hunt. And when my dad got there,
I just told him that I wasn't feeling well and
(05:35):
I wanted to go home. I was a twenty year
old guy that didn't want to admit to his dad
what just happened because I wasn't sure what to tell him,
because my family's a bunch of good old boys, and
I knew that they would ridicule me to no end
if I tried to explain to him what I saw,
(05:55):
they would have discounted it as a bear because there
was a lot of beer up in that area. And
I can assure you what I saw was no bear.
It body shape wise had the it was like no shoulders,
kind of like Mike Tyson the boxer. So it was
(06:19):
just like I said, massive we got in the truck.
I didn't say much to Dad the whole way home
and got back and I never went back, and anyone
that knows me knows that I'm a very obsessed whitetail hunter,
and I never went back to that location again, and
(06:42):
I never even said a word to anyone in my family,
including my own father, till about ten or fifteen years ago,
when I finally talked to him about it. And at
first he did kind of smirk at me and chuckle
about it, and then he really that I was being
serious about it, and the ridicule stop then, and he
(07:06):
started asking me questions about it to make sure that
it wasn't a bear, which for sure it was not,
and he just told me, I wondered all these years
why you never wanted to go back there. So that's
how that went until recently. I literally had not been
(07:27):
back to that area since nineteen ninety two. Recently I
finally went back with two of my brothers, and when
we went back out there, obviously the terrain had changed
a little bit because of the logging going on on
(07:50):
that piece of land, but we didn't have to walk
too far down the logging road until we found a
set of footprints that were very odd to us because
my brother Dennis has a set of sixteen boots and
the tracks were bigger than his feet, and the footprints
(08:12):
were in a heel to toe stepping motion, which would
be very odd for that part of the woods. Again,
there was probably a week's worth of melting on the snow,
so there no definitive way to do anything with those.
I did take some pictures of that. Thanks to onyx
(08:33):
the maps, I was able to find the exact location
of where my sighting occurred, even though the woods at
the logging road looked completely different. The odd thing was
that when we got back to the area where my
sighting was. For some reason, the loggers had logged off
(08:54):
on all four directions, but left an area about the
size the length of a football field, in the width
of a football field in that location, and in the
very dead center of that is a structure of trees
that were tipped over, almost like a teepee, but they
(09:17):
were supporting one large tree that was about eight foot
off the ground, horizontal to the ground, parallel to the ground,
I should say. And it was just creepy. And we're
all three pretty big guys, but all three of us
were just feeling uneasy back there, like we were being
(09:37):
watched or something. And well we decided that, you know,
it was time to get out of there, and we
got out of there, and I'm glad I went back,
but at the same time, I was terrified the whole
time that I was out there. It just I will
go back to that spot again, because now I just
(09:59):
I have to go back, and if that thing is
still there, I really want to see it again.
