Tonight’s guest, Mel, has seen Yowies on two occasions. The first time she saw one, she was driving down a road and wound up hitting one with her car. That experience rattled her, but not nearly as much as her second Yowie encounter did. You see, the second time she saw a Yowie, she and her partner found themselves doing all they could to keep it from pushing its way into their house. The Yowie was on the outside of the door, pushing on it to get it to swing open while Mel and her partner were inside their house, pushing on the door with all their might, in an attempt to keep it from opening. Know YOWI sightings both happened on the Gold Coast in Australia.
I'm mel and this happened quite a while ago in
the early two thousands. So I was driving along the
road with my then partner and he was drinking. So
(01:22):
I was driving, and we were driving an old LJ Tarana,
so didn't have air conditioning and all heating, like we're
really good heating in it, but being on the Gold Coast,
we didn't really need heating, so we were driving out
to a friend's house who lived in the back of
nomen Vah Valley.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
And it was a long stretch road.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
It was just curved and it's a really long road,
but there's no street lights. There's not a lot of
houses out that way that time, and so we were
just driving along and we thought maybe we've been We've
been driving for ages and we still haven't hit it
the town of Nummber.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
So we thought, well, we'll pull over on the side
of the road.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
So back then we only had the phone book as
a directory and a Nokia phone. So we pulled over
and we had to look through the directory. So we
turned on the interior lights and all the rest of it.
And then I said, oh, maybe just give him a call,
and he said, yeah, that might be an idea, but
(02:33):
it would just check out the maps first. So we
weren't tried to check out the maps, and we thought
tried to approximate where we were, but weren't really sure.
And then just this weird feeling just overcame me.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
I don't know where it came from.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
I thought, oh, this is this is so weird, but
I feel watched and he's going, oh, what are you
talking about I said, I just I feel weird. I
don't feel right, and he said, oh well, I said, oh,
can you just give him a call. We'll turn off
the interior lights, keep driving, and you can.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Just give them a call. So we started up the car.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
I started the car and we took off again, and
then he turned off the lights and we got a
little bit ways down the road and then he said,
you know, he called them and he said no, no,
They said we're on the right road. So we just
got to keep going. So I thought, oh, yeah, no rays.
And then all of a sudden, the smell overcame us.
(03:46):
Like it was a weird smell. It was just really
it's just stench. It was horrible. So we're trying to
close your hair bents. And then I said to him,
when're they going to put a sewage septic like plate
plant out here somewhere? And he said, yeah, they were,
(04:09):
And I said, oh, maybe they did. Like that was quick,
but you know, I thought, no, all right, So we
got over the smellt we just kept driving and didn't
really say much of it, because you know, why would
you no point commenting on it.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
And then we got further in and I'd just like
to go back to that feeling. This place that I was,
that we were in was not far from when I
grew up, and I grew up there.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
I've been in the bush by myself, I've been in
there with friends. I have never ever felt threatened in
that environment. I can tell you I've seen we had
what copperheads, we had, tiger snakes, brown snakes, red belly blacks.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Thing worried us at all.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
You couldn't really rattle either him or I because we
grew up there and there was just we knew possums
sounded weird, but night Bert, we'd never been threatened, ever
been in that environment.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
So that's what sort.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
Of overstruck me is, Oh, this feeling is just so
creepy and weird. Anyway, So we're traveling down the road
further and all of a sudden, there was this snake
in the middle of the road.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
And I thought, hey, you look at this. And I
was put on the high beams and we saw this
snake and it was coiled at the base.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
It looked like a red belly black. So they're pretty
savage snakes. They're not ones to muck around with. And
as far as them getting intimidated doesn't really make any
sense either. So this was like coiled at the base
and it had its head raised off the ground, like
(06:10):
about a foot off the ground might have been. And
I said, have you ever seen a snake do that before?
And he said, nah, nor like that, And it looked
like a cobra, Like I thought, cobra's with the only.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Snakes on Earth that did that anyway, So I said, well,
what do I do? Like it's in the middle of.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
My lane, and we were always taught on those roads
don't swerve because if you hit some loose rocks, you'll
go straight off the road, So do not swerve was
going through my head. So I was like, okay, well
I'm not swerving for him. I'm just going to hit
him straight on. So we both heard the thunk of
(06:57):
its head hitting the number, and then I sort of
sped up again, and then we both I think I
saw it first. It was laying there was something on
the side of the road that didn't look right for
(07:19):
the environment at all.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
So I said gray like I said his name, and
I said what is that?
Speaker 4 (07:32):
And only I had a little bit more color to
what I said, and he just went I don't know,
and it was an off the tree manual LG Turuna LJ,
and so I pushed it down into second to go
past it because first is like there's a big jump
(07:53):
between first and second, and I didn't want to put
it in first because that would have left me like
twenty k's max. And I was not slowing down that much.
For whatever I was looking at, I knew this isn't right.
I don't feel good, but curious. So we slowed down
(08:14):
a small amount and you could just see on the
side of the road a head tucked in.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Shoulders, a big back.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
And it dipped like as in you know how when
you lay on your side you sort of dip on
around your stomach area, and then it came up to.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
It came up to he was and then.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
There was a bottom. It was like a human in
a fetal position, but it wasn't and it had really
long hair and it was like matted together a dark brown,
kind of a reddish tin kind of not very much.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
And it was enormous.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
It just was enormous, Like my ex was quite a
big man, just over six foot, and this is just.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
So big.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
The shoulders were just like nothing you have ever seen
in your life. I just couldn't believe what we were
looking and I said, what is that we don't have?
There's no there's no gorillas, there's no apes. You're in Australia,
there's definitely not on the Gold Coast. There is no
(09:55):
animal that that resembled that I knew in the bush.
And trust me when I say I do know bush
animals quite well.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
We have bush.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
Turkeys, but they don't lie down, they just run across
the road. And no, nothing resembled that. The smell was
just the smell was wow, but it was more like
a septic tank smell.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
And anyway, so we kept we just kept driving.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
We didn't really talk much about what had we just
encountered or anything. I just said, I hope we hit
that house real soon. So we did. And then when
I stopped the car, I had to just sit in
the car. He got out to greet our friends. Our
friends sort of came out because they were waiting for us,
(10:55):
one because we just called them ten fifteen minutes before hand,
and too like they could like we weren't acting normal,
like the lights were still on. We had the engine
off and our lights were still on and yeah, we're
sort of like talking, and he was trying to talk
me into getting out of the car. No, I did
(11:17):
not want to get out of the car, and I
explained to him, I don't want to get out of
the car because what if the snake's under the car.
I know how that sounds, but that's what I thought.
I thought the snake might have gripped onto underneath the panels.
I've just never seen a snake do that. They don't
(11:37):
do that, not not the snakes up there. They this
was not a carpet snake. This was smaller than that,
and it was it was. It was just not I
no carpet snakes really well anyway, So I finally got
out of the car and I ran across their lawn.
(11:59):
I don't think I even closed the door of the car.
And then I sprinted across their lawn and they had
a balcony, so that's where they were standing with the
lights on, and I jumped over the balcony. I didn't
even try to find the stakes, and then I said,
look for the snake. So they went and got a flashlight.
We asked them for a flashlight, and they took the
(12:19):
flashlight out and then my then partner was looking under
the car and his friend was looking under the car
and they were like, there's no snake. Soon after that happened,
another group of our friends came up the driveway and
we were like, oh, my gosh, did you guys smell anything,
(12:42):
see anything, like, was anything weird at all to you
on the driver And they said, didn't smell anything, didn't
see anything, didn't see the snake.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
We told them about the snake that we had.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
Hit and yeah, I gave it a good whack, and no,
they didn't hear anything. They didn't see anything. They didn't
see anything on the side of the road.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
Nothing. So we were like, wow. So we're still friends
and still talk and.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
And just every now and then, and we still bring
up that night, you know, like.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
What was it that we saw? It was so weird.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
So anyway, fast forwarding time, fast forward about ten years
and I was living out in the bush again and
pretty secluded little place I had at the time out there,
and so I was at the back on the verandah.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
It was like an open veranda.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
You just stepped straight out of the house onto the
patio in like area, and it had like the area
but it wasn't any steps or raised or anything like that.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
It was a pretty tiny little house.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
So I was out the back having a cigarette, which
I shouldn't have been doing anyway, I hear that. So
I was out there, and where I was sitting was
like on exercise equipment. So I'm sitting there and I'm
just looking out and I can see like this light
(14:29):
from the other estate which is behind us, but it
only had like one light visible in that estate. Like,
it's really heavy trees, lots of lantana. You can't You
can bushwalk there easy, and there's heaves of bookshorting paths,
(14:50):
but you have to stay the path. If you go
five feet off the path, you will be lost because
it's so thick and very very junk little type out there.
So I was looking off through these trees at this
little light.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Now, earlier in the night, I could hear.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
A rave party, you know, and like people have rave
parties out in the middle of nowhere. One, they're not
going to upset it too many people. And two, you know,
the police aren't going to come out there and just
tell them to turn the stereo down. So so anyway,
they're out there and raving away, So I really think anything.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
I'd forgotten about that by the time I went out
the back.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
Because like the night was really still and quiet by
that time, so that sort of thought had left me.
And all of a sudden, so I'm looking at this
light far off in the distance, and then the light disappears.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
It's gone, and I was thinking, where's the lego.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
It's like cocking my head and I'm having a good look,
and I'm going, like, what did that light go? Like
it was just maybe it went out, but that's really weird.
Who watches a street light go out? Like I've never
seen anyway. So I'm sort of looking and changing my
view by angle and sort of shifting on my seat
(16:30):
side decide, like, you know, putting my head round that way,
putting my head round the other way, And all of
a sudden, I see like a really really.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Faint eye outline.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
And I can't tell you what I saw that night,
I cannot, but it was just it was just in
front of me, like it was. It was it was
like the backyard was not a big backyard, considering the
bush lamb in. And then I heard and it was
(17:05):
like a full grunt. I know that sounds funny, but
this was like a full grunt, and I thought, oh okay,
And my first point of care went to my brain
to say.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
That's a tweaker from the party.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
That's like a party person who's making these these noises.
Maybe they've taken some form of, you know, thing that
has sort of warped their perspective of who they are
as a human.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
So I thought, that's so weird. Why would that occur?
Speaker 4 (17:42):
And then it did it again, and it sounded like
it was moving towards me, like, not not fast, not
not like it was vicious, not like it was going
to hurt me. It just moved towards me, like a
bit of a warning, like I'm here, You're not hearing things.
(18:02):
I am definitely standing in front of you, not more
than maybe thirty feet away from you. And I thought,
so I just jumped up out of my seat. I
ran inside the house. I flicked the door closed as
fast as I could, I locked it. And then my
partner was sitting on the couch and he turned and
(18:24):
looked at me, and he goes, what is wrong with you?
Speaker 2 (18:28):
And that says a lot because he didn't really pick
up on this kind of stuff. He was kind of
not that good at that kind of thing anyway, So
he noticed, like he goes, you are white. What's wrong?
And I went, oh my god.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
I said something out of the back, like something, or
someone is out the back. Someone's out the back, And
he goes, what about the front door? And I was like,
so I'm running to the front door and I'm turning
the knob like to you know. I mean, well, I'm
(19:02):
turning the because the knob had the lock on top
of it sort of thing, so I'm trying to turn that.
All of a sudden, the door is I'm fighting a
force to get the door closed. And I said I
can't get the door, and he said, why are you
opening it? I said, no, I'm not. And he jumped
(19:24):
off that couch so quick. I don't know whether he
jumped over the back of it or went round it,
but he was there like lightning. And we're both fighting
with this door, right, so we're pushing on it with
all our might.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Now he was a.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
Big boy, so whatever was pushing against us had a
lot of strength.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
So we got the door closed.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
I latched the door, and then I went round to
the kitchen to retrieve my phone because that was on
the kitchen bench at that time, and I had the
kitchen light on, so that sort of diminishes what you
can see outside because the light contrasts between the two
inside outside kind of thing. But there was like a
(20:13):
half inch fence right next to the kitchen window, like
and so there was no panels in the fence, but
it was like primed ready for a fence to go
straight in. And I saw something and I thought at
the time maybe the guy who the tweaker, maybe that
(20:37):
was a tweaker and or somebody who's you know, pumped
up from a party and they're pumped up from a
party and they have Camo on with you know, like
the grass camo with the long sort of things that
string off the camo, and I thought, that is a
(21:00):
party goer in Camo, and why what is going on?
Speaker 2 (21:05):
So I was like, I'm calling the police.
Speaker 4 (21:08):
So I called the police, and the lady on Triple
zero said, no, we're coming up there, stay on the line,
turn on.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
The lights on, you know where he'd assist you.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
And I'm thinking, wow, they were really taking us seriously here,
so which I was thankful for. And so she stayed
onto the line until they got there. Because it did
take some time for the police to get up the
windy road to get to us, and when they got there,
then we of course disengaged. And then I said to
(21:42):
the police officer what had happened, and they said, great,
because we've got the dog squad.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
And I'm thinking, well, dislike full overkill, like I've I'm
not known police officers to do this ever, So anyway,
I was like, Okay, they're really taking this quite like
good because we had something happened and we had somebody
in the yard.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
I don't know what was happening still, and so the
police dogs went out the back and then didn't see them,
and we were just talking to the police and they
were so good. They were like fully calming us down.
They were assuring us that they believed that something had happened,
(22:29):
and went through a bit of home security and some
plants for the future, and I thought, wow, they've just
been they've been so sorry here anyway, So I don't
know what really happened in between. I can't really tell you,
And I think I was just trying to process everything
that was going on. And then the dog squad they
(22:54):
put the dogs in the back and took them, and
then the police officers told us what the canine unit
had told them, and we.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Found out that.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
Yes, there was definitely something in your yard, and that
didn't click to me at all. And they said the
dog squad did not find anything, no smells around the
front of your house or anywhere near the front door,
but they did find something out the back. It went
(23:31):
through the panels like I had said, and that the
dog followed it through the panels just outside the kitchen.
Then it ran through a couple more yards whatever, and
then it got to an area where the police dog
(23:54):
people the canine unit had relayed to them and said,
we couldn't get through the thick brush. We went to
a spot, followed it all the way through the bush,
and then we came up to this spot and the
dog could still smell that there was something there and
(24:15):
the paths that had taken. But the police officer could
not work out like the dog couldn't even follow that
couldn't even get through the brush or the sick lantana
or the trees, just the bush was just impenetrable at
that stage. It just they could not get through it.
(24:37):
And he said he had to stop and turn around
and come back. But he said, definitely something was in
your yard. And it didn't dawn on me until later,
and I thought, why'd they keep saying something was?

He had?
Speaker 4 (24:52):
And then I thought, oh, my goodness, was that another encounter?
Was that another yowie that I saw with my own
two eyes but not quite? And then I just thought,
oh wow, So that's two encounters that are really burnt.

Into my brain and etched in there forever.

little bit ways down the road and then he said,
you know, he called them and he said no, no,
They said we're on the right road. So we just
got to keep going. So I thought, oh, yeah, no rays.
And then all of a sudden, the smell overcame us.
(03:46):
Like it was a weird smell. It was just really
it's just stench. It was horrible. So we're trying to
close your hair bents. And then I said to him,
when're they going to put a sewage septic like plate
plant out here somewhere? And he said, yeah, they were,
(04:09):
And I said, oh, maybe they did. Like that was quick,
but you know, I thought, no, all right, So we
got over the smellt we just kept driving and didn't
really say much of it, because you know, why would
you no point commenting on it.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
And then we got further in and I'd just like
to go back to that feeling. This place that I was,
that we were in was not far from when I
grew up, and I grew up there.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
I've been in the bush by myself, I've been in
there with friends. I have never ever felt threatened in
that environment. I can tell you I've seen we had
what copperheads, we had, tiger snakes, brown snakes, red belly blacks.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Thing worried us at all.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
You couldn't really rattle either him or I because we
grew up there and there was just we knew possums
sounded weird, but night Bert, we'd never been threatened, ever
been in that environment.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
So that's what sort.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
Of overstruck me is, Oh, this feeling is just so
creepy and weird. Anyway, So we're traveling down the road
further and all of a sudden, there was this snake
in the middle of the road.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
And I thought, hey, you look at this. And I
was put on the high beams and we saw this
snake and it was coiled at the base.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
It looked like a red belly black. So they're pretty
savage snakes. They're not ones to muck around with. And
as far as them getting intimidated doesn't really make any
sense either. So this was like coiled at the base
and it had its head raised off the ground, like
(06:10):
about a foot off the ground might have been. And
I said, have you ever seen a snake do that before?
And he said, nah, nor like that, And it looked
like a cobra, Like I thought, cobra's with the only.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Snakes on Earth that did that anyway, So I said, well,
what do I do? Like it's in the middle of.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
My lane, and we were always taught on those roads
don't swerve because if you hit some loose rocks, you'll
go straight off the road, So do not swerve was
going through my head. So I was like, okay, well
I'm not swerving for him. I'm just going to hit
him straight on. So we both heard the thunk of
(06:57):
its head hitting the number, and then I sort of
sped up again, and then we both I think I
saw it first. It was laying there was something on
the side of the road that didn't look right for
(07:19):
the environment at all.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
So I said gray like I said his name, and
I said what is that?
Speaker 4 (07:32):
And only I had a little bit more color to
what I said, and he just went I don't know,
and it was an off the tree manual LG Turuna LJ,
and so I pushed it down into second to go
past it because first is like there's a big jump
(07:53):
between first and second, and I didn't want to put
it in first because that would have left me like
twenty k's max. And I was not slowing down that much.
For whatever I was looking at, I knew this isn't right.
I don't feel good, but curious. So we slowed down
(08:14):
a small amount and you could just see on the
side of the road a head tucked in.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Shoulders, a big back.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
And it dipped like as in you know how when
you lay on your side you sort of dip on
around your stomach area, and then it came up to.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
It came up to he was and then.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
There was a bottom. It was like a human in
a fetal position, but it wasn't and it had really
long hair and it was like matted together a dark brown,
kind of a reddish tin kind of not very much.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
And it was enormous.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
It just was enormous, Like my ex was quite a
big man, just over six foot, and this is just.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
So big.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
The shoulders were just like nothing you have ever seen
in your life. I just couldn't believe what we were
looking and I said, what is that we don't have?
There's no there's no gorillas, there's no apes. You're in Australia,
there's definitely not on the Gold Coast. There is no
(09:55):
animal that that resembled that I knew in the bush.
And trust me when I say I do know bush
animals quite well.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
We have bush.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
Turkeys, but they don't lie down, they just run across
the road. And no, nothing resembled that. The smell was
just the smell was wow, but it was more like
a septic tank smell.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
And anyway, so we kept we just kept driving.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
We didn't really talk much about what had we just
encountered or anything. I just said, I hope we hit
that house real soon. So we did. And then when
I stopped the car, I had to just sit in
the car. He got out to greet our friends. Our
friends sort of came out because they were waiting for us,
(10:55):
one because we just called them ten fifteen minutes before hand,
and too like they could like we weren't acting normal,
like the lights were still on. We had the engine
off and our lights were still on and yeah, we're
sort of like talking, and he was trying to talk
me into getting out of the car. No, I did
(11:17):
not want to get out of the car, and I
explained to him, I don't want to get out of
the car because what if the snake's under the car.
I know how that sounds, but that's what I thought.
I thought the snake might have gripped onto underneath the panels.
I've just never seen a snake do that. They don't
(11:37):
do that, not not the snakes up there. They this
was not a carpet snake. This was smaller than that,
and it was it was. It was just not I
no carpet snakes really well anyway, So I finally got
out of the car and I ran across their lawn.
(11:59):
I don't think I even closed the door of the car.
And then I sprinted across their lawn and they had
a balcony, so that's where they were standing with the
lights on, and I jumped over the balcony. I didn't
even try to find the stakes, and then I said,
look for the snake. So they went and got a flashlight.
We asked them for a flashlight, and they took the
(12:19):
flashlight out and then my then partner was looking under
the car and his friend was looking under the car
and they were like, there's no snake. Soon after that happened,
another group of our friends came up the driveway and
we were like, oh, my gosh, did you guys smell anything,
(12:42):
see anything, like, was anything weird at all to you
on the driver And they said, didn't smell anything, didn't
see anything, didn't see the snake.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
We told them about the snake that we had.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
Hit and yeah, I gave it a good whack, and no,
they didn't hear anything. They didn't see anything. They didn't
see anything on the side of the road.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
Nothing. So we were like, wow. So we're still friends
and still talk and.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
And just every now and then, and we still bring
up that night, you know, like.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
What was it that we saw? It was so weird.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
So anyway, fast forwarding time, fast forward about ten years
and I was living out in the bush again and
pretty secluded little place I had at the time out there,
and so I was at the back on the verandah.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
It was like an open veranda.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
You just stepped straight out of the house onto the
patio in like area, and it had like the area
but it wasn't any steps or raised or anything like that.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
It was a pretty tiny little house.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
So I was out the back having a cigarette, which
I shouldn't have been doing anyway, I hear that. So
I was out there, and where I was sitting was
like on exercise equipment. So I'm sitting there and I'm
just looking out and I can see like this light
(14:29):
from the other estate which is behind us, but it
only had like one light visible in that estate. Like,
it's really heavy trees, lots of lantana. You can't You
can bushwalk there easy, and there's heaves of bookshorting paths,
(14:50):
but you have to stay the path. If you go
five feet off the path, you will be lost because
it's so thick and very very junk little type out there.
So I was looking off through these trees at this
little light.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Now, earlier in the night, I could hear.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
A rave party, you know, and like people have rave
parties out in the middle of nowhere. One, they're not
going to upset it too many people. And two, you know,
the police aren't going to come out there and just
tell them to turn the stereo down. So so anyway,
they're out there and raving away, So I really think anything.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
I'd forgotten about that by the time I went out
the back.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
Because like the night was really still and quiet by
that time, so that sort of thought had left me.
And all of a sudden, so I'm looking at this
light far off in the distance, and then the light disappears.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
It's gone, and I was thinking, where's the lego.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
It's like cocking my head and I'm having a good look,
and I'm going, like, what did that light go? Like
it was just maybe it went out, but that's really weird.
Who watches a street light go out? Like I've never
seen anyway. So I'm sort of looking and changing my
view by angle and sort of shifting on my seat
(16:30):
side decide, like, you know, putting my head round that way,
putting my head round the other way, And all of
a sudden, I see like a really really.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Faint eye outline.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
And I can't tell you what I saw that night,
I cannot, but it was just it was just in
front of me, like it was. It was it was
like the backyard was not a big backyard, considering the
bush lamb in. And then I heard and it was
(17:05):
like a full grunt. I know that sounds funny, but
this was like a full grunt, and I thought, oh okay,
And my first point of care went to my brain
to say.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
That's a tweaker from the party.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
That's like a party person who's making these these noises.
Maybe they've taken some form of, you know, thing that
has sort of warped their perspective of who they are
as a human.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
So I thought, that's so weird. Why would that occur?
Speaker 4 (17:42):
And then it did it again, and it sounded like
it was moving towards me, like, not not fast, not
not like it was vicious, not like it was going
to hurt me. It just moved towards me, like a
bit of a warning, like I'm here, You're not hearing things.
(18:02):
I am definitely standing in front of you, not more
than maybe thirty feet away from you. And I thought,
so I just jumped up out of my seat. I
ran inside the house. I flicked the door closed as
fast as I could, I locked it. And then my
partner was sitting on the couch and he turned and
(18:24):
looked at me, and he goes, what is wrong with you?
Speaker 2 (18:28):
And that says a lot because he didn't really pick
up on this kind of stuff. He was kind of
not that good at that kind of thing anyway, So
he noticed, like he goes, you are white. What's wrong?
And I went, oh my god.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
I said something out of the back, like something, or
someone is out the back. Someone's out the back, And
he goes, what about the front door? And I was like,
so I'm running to the front door and I'm turning
the knob like to you know. I mean, well, I'm
(19:02):
turning the because the knob had the lock on top
of it sort of thing, so I'm trying to turn that.
All of a sudden, the door is I'm fighting a
force to get the door closed. And I said I
can't get the door, and he said, why are you
opening it? I said, no, I'm not. And he jumped
(19:24):
off that couch so quick. I don't know whether he
jumped over the back of it or went round it,
but he was there like lightning. And we're both fighting
with this door, right, so we're pushing on it with
all our might.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Now he was a.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
Big boy, so whatever was pushing against us had a
lot of strength.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
So we got the door closed.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
I latched the door, and then I went round to
the kitchen to retrieve my phone because that was on
the kitchen bench at that time, and I had the
kitchen light on, so that sort of diminishes what you
can see outside because the light contrasts between the two
inside outside kind of thing. But there was like a
(20:13):
half inch fence right next to the kitchen window, like
and so there was no panels in the fence, but
it was like primed ready for a fence to go
straight in. And I saw something and I thought at
the time maybe the guy who the tweaker, maybe that
(20:37):
was a tweaker and or somebody who's you know, pumped
up from a party and they're pumped up from a
party and they have Camo on with you know, like
the grass camo with the long sort of things that
string off the camo, and I thought, that is a
(21:00):
party goer in Camo, and why what is going on?
Speaker 2 (21:05):
So I was like, I'm calling the police.
Speaker 4 (21:08):
So I called the police, and the lady on Triple
zero said, no, we're coming up there, stay on the line,
turn on.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
The lights on, you know where he'd assist you.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
And I'm thinking, wow, they were really taking us seriously here,
so which I was thankful for. And so she stayed
onto the line until they got there. Because it did
take some time for the police to get up the
windy road to get to us, and when they got there,
then we of course disengaged. And then I said to
(21:42):
the police officer what had happened, and they said, great,
because we've got the dog squad.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
And I'm thinking, well, dislike full overkill, like I've I'm
not known police officers to do this ever, So anyway,
I was like, Okay, they're really taking this quite like
good because we had something happened and we had somebody
in the yard.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
I don't know what was happening still, and so the
police dogs went out the back and then didn't see them,
and we were just talking to the police and they
were so good. They were like fully calming us down.
They were assuring us that they believed that something had happened,
(22:29):
and went through a bit of home security and some
plants for the future, and I thought, wow, they've just
been they've been so sorry here anyway, So I don't
know what really happened in between. I can't really tell you,
And I think I was just trying to process everything
that was going on. And then the dog squad they
(22:54):
put the dogs in the back and took them, and
then the police officers told us what the canine unit
had told them, and we.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Found out that.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
Yes, there was definitely something in your yard, and that
didn't click to me at all. And they said the
dog squad did not find anything, no smells around the
front of your house or anywhere near the front door,
but they did find something out the back. It went
(23:31):
through the panels like I had said, and that the
dog followed it through the panels just outside the kitchen.
Then it ran through a couple more yards whatever, and
then it got to an area where the police dog
(23:54):
people the canine unit had relayed to them and said,
we couldn't get through the thick brush. We went to
a spot, followed it all the way through the bush,
and then we came up to this spot and the
dog could still smell that there was something there and
(24:15):
the paths that had taken. But the police officer could
not work out like the dog couldn't even follow that
couldn't even get through the brush or the sick lantana
or the trees, just the bush was just impenetrable at
that stage. It just they could not get through it.
(24:37):
And he said he had to stop and turn around
and come back. But he said, definitely something was in
your yard. And it didn't dawn on me until later,
and I thought, why'd they keep saying something was?
Speaker 2 (24:50):
He had?
Speaker 4 (24:52):
And then I thought, oh, my goodness, was that another encounter?
Was that another yowie that I saw with my own
two eyes but not quite? And then I just thought,
oh wow, So that's two encounters that are really burnt.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Into my brain and etched in there forever.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
More So, it was really nice to tell everyone about
