Speaker 4 (02:56):
And even if you want to have a good time
for yourself and pamper yourself, you still gotta pay for that.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
Oh my god, I know.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
I know.

Speaker 5 (03:06):
The sleep, Yeah, I know, I know. You know.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
I learned about you from listening to the LD and
radio of course, and and also through you know, I'm
a freestyle fanatic.

Speaker 5 (03:22):
I love freestyle, and you always.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
Hear people, you know, talking about certain singers and stuff
like that, and I never got a chance to like
actually meet you. So I'm very, very grateful that you
gave us the opportunity to sit down and chat for
a little bit.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Thank you me.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
Yeah, I know, listen And at the end of the day, it's.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
Good to reconnect and connect with people, especially women in the.

Speaker 5 (03:47):
Industry, right.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
Yeah, you know, we're celebrating Women's International Women's Month, and
it's so important for us ladies to you know, support
each other and the music.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
And yeah and yeah, you're right.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Yeah, and and not only in free staff, but a
voicing that for the latinas you know, you know, we
have to be you know, live. We dedicate ourselves so much,
you know, to persuade a gold or hobby, something that
we love, and sometimes we forget to be humble. You know,
you ever had any like any downs or low you know,

(04:28):
lows in the industry coming from your peers or even
you know, other ladies.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Yeah, I have a lot, a lot of times. Yeah,
but you know I try to overcome come them and
you know, try to be more professional or just ignore
certain drama, just do me, you know, But yes, I have,
I have.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
It's unfortunately, you know that we we have to deal
with that. And I think that it shows your maturity
when you just you know, put things aside and just
focus on what you you know, you pursue your your career,
whatever whatever you want to give your love to.

Speaker 5 (05:08):
What made you decide to pursue music?

Speaker 3 (05:11):
I started singing at a young age in church. Me
familiar to Puerto Rico, so you and when we moved
to Philadelphia, I became a music major. So I started
singing and I was in the in the band. I

(05:34):
play musical instruments, so it was always a passion of mine.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
That and also I'm in a health field also, so
both of those were always a passion of mind.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
Wow, do you combine like if you said you're in
the health field, if you have any patients or people
that you cater or help, do you like mix your
your like music and and you know that customer service,
like you know.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
I used to. I used to work in a hospital,
but now I do home care. So I take care
of my mother, I take care of somebody else. I
used to take care of a teenager. And I do
a lot of singing. And they love it, you know,
especially don't want any Spanish grassy.

Speaker 5 (06:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
And you know I always you know, like my mother,
my mother too, My mother is always singing, you know.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
I used to do it for my kids too. In
the morning. I used to sing good morning sunshine, good
morning sunshine. And my daughter used to be like, shut up.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
I know that they're teenagers nowadays they don't understand.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
He's so annoying.

Speaker 5 (06:42):
And I said, that's why I'm singing, so that you can,
oh my goodness. But is it?

Speaker 4 (06:49):
I think it's a Latino thing that we always Music
is such an important thing about culture, you know that,
you know, you go.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
To restaurants, you hear music. You go to the supermarket,
you hear music.

Speaker 5 (07:04):
You hear music.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
Everywhere you go. Yeah, oh my, yeah everywhere.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Yeah, it's such an important part of our life and
and it move us. It moves us, you know, to
go forward to even you have our moments and stuff
like that.

Speaker 5 (07:19):
You know, it's happy challenges and stuff.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
And if you're not a musician and you don't sing
music still, you know, it's a passion for a lot
of people to just listen to to relax. I mean,
you go to your massages, you do your facials, You
got your own type of music that you listen to,
and so you know that's therapy too for the brain.
You know it It all depends on the type of

(07:43):
music you know that you listen to. But it is yeah,
it is good.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
There was it a challenge to get into the music
professionally since you know, it's part of the culture, it's
part of your day to day life because I know
that you have worked with Phenomena you know, DJ's producers.
But that was it challenging. Do you ever felt like, listen,
am I gonna? Am I gonna do it? Am I

(08:09):
just gonna walk away?

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Sometimes they get overwhelming, especially when I do Spanish because
even though I am Puerto Rican, I was raised fort Afickenya.
But my Spanish I have an accent. So am I
girl an asbien? You know, So I'm gonna say it

(08:40):
in English. Yes, sometimes I gotta repeat myself because you
gotta roll those rs, and you know, it doesn't come
out right, but you know, you keep doing it and
it comes out nice, just like English, you know what,
I have an accent. Also in English, I can't win,
but I sing it over, you know, and it comes
out nice. But that's the you know, pretty much the
only challenge I have that my Spanish is not.

Speaker 4 (09:02):
Perfect, but but it made you more like to be
more creative and you whatever tools of if you know, Okay,
I have an access, so I'm just gonna use it
to my advantage. So that's why you ever went like
harder creatively, like let me be creative, let.

Speaker 5 (09:24):
Me just use this, yes, you know, let me roll
that R. So I go like, you know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Yes, I had to rewrite and rephrase certain words that
I couldn't pronounce right and I wanted to say, but
it came out nice. It came out really nice and
that's the one that's right now up for nominated for
an award for that.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
Guys, please you know vote a week, I knowing every
week every week, but you know, since you know you
said about you know, the rewrite and stuff like that.
Do you ever do you when you walk into a studio,
you have expectations to do. Okay, this is what I

(10:08):
have an agenda, this is what I'm gonna do, and
this is how I want it or did you just
go listen whatever happens, whatever comes out of my voyage,
however it comes out, this is how we're gonna go.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
Now. With the Spanish, I go in there prepared, but
it always changes on me because depending on the producer
and how he produced the music and I sing it.
Sometimes he doesn't get the melody, so I have to
change the way I sing it, and that's when it
comes in this word, this sentence doesn't go so I

(10:44):
have to like rephrase it. So I think I find
it more challenging with the Spanish. When I do my
reggaeton or get any kind of Spanish song, I find
it more challenging and it takes more time. Going a
freestyle dance DM music. I've been going there with a
b and have a title, and I could, I can.

(11:05):
I could just pretty much write something in a half
hour and record an hour. In an hour, I'm done
and we just you know, editing and doing everything, and
like three hours is done. But I find it more. Yeah,
it's a lot harder in Spanish.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
Oh interesting, I would think I would imagine that it
would be easier since that's your native you know, your
first native language and stuff, you know English second, But wow.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
And sometimes I mean I did write a song in
Spanish that was real easy. But like I said, again,
it depends on the producing the music, because when you
go in there, they're doing the music, unless you already
have the music, the scene with the music, where it's
not that way and on, you're pretty much going in
there knowing what you're doing and that's it then and

(11:52):
it's easy. So but if you go in in their brand,
you know, just like doing everything from scratch without you
having the beat at all, just having like the lyrics,
then I find it a little more harder than my English. Yeah,
my English music.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
I know you mentioned that, you know when you write
or do you write your own songs?

Speaker 3 (12:12):
But yes, I do. My Spanish I do have I
do have help. Now. His name is Gabrielle and he
is from Venezuela, so he is, Yes, somebody knew that
I'm going to start working with. And he writes really
good Spanish, so his yeah, his writing is awesome. All
I gotta do is just pretty much learn the lyrics.

(12:35):
But I rather, you know, like I did put something
out there that I was looking for writers and all
that's him. So I'd rather work with people writing for
me in Spanish when it comes.

Speaker 4 (12:47):
No, definitely, because the Spanish the translation is so tricky sometime,
so I can imagine, you know, right.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
I wanted to be professional. I wanted to be right,
you know, correct in every way. I don't want to
be bullied or anything like that. So yeah, but I
wrote it, you know, I wrote that it's your Hello
solo that was in the seventh Annual Awards, and that one, Yes,
that's a cover song.

Speaker 5 (13:16):
U seow oh.

Speaker 4 (13:18):
That's amazing because you know, sometimes you know, the Spanish
music right right now, reggae tong is so you know,
the the the lyrics are so kind of gajay, a
little bit of you know, spice a song you know,
and like you don't even have to pronounce the whole word,
so it becomes for me, I love it, but if

(13:41):
you want to sing it, it becomes a little tricky
just because you know the lyrics. Do you feel like
the music industry is it's taking a turn for the
worst when it comes to lyrics and being a lyricist
or a writer, because it's so you know, you know, hey,
let's let's let's just you know, bring it, you know,

(14:03):
dip it down slow, you know, let's dip it.

Speaker 5 (14:07):
You know what I mean. Song.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
I don't think so. I think it's for the best.
I've been hearing a lot of nice songs. But Sally
gave you and Fail and for some reason, it made
millions of dollars in one week. You see, Yeah, And
I don't want to say it, but you know it
starts with the word you know that?

Speaker 5 (14:30):
And then aha, and it is a hit and it's
a hitd is that?

Speaker 4 (14:39):
And I know which one you're talking about, And it's
the thing is that is fun and it's it's simple
words and it's.

Speaker 5 (14:49):
It's writing words. It is so funny.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
And I'm like, that's less.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Than a week and made so much money and it's
much and you know, sometimes people like lyrics like that.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
And you know what, if you look at it, it's
more of a younger crowd. The younger crowd is the
one that you really have to please the most. I
gotta tell you, because yeah, they love that song.

Speaker 5 (15:22):
I listen and I have to admit me too. Sometimes
it makes me laugh.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
It makes me like, my mother loves it. My mother
is eighteen years old, and I said, Okay, oh my god,
it's so funny. She listens to it. And I mean,
I put it on mummy, mummy when she's upset and
I put it on. I put it on today this morning,
and she was like, she loved it. Yeah, but you know,
it's not appropriate, but it is a funny song. It's

(15:49):
not appropriate, but it's it's a really nice song.

Speaker 5 (15:53):
And making money like yes, And it makes sense if.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
You heard the lyrics from like the whole song, the
original It talks about eating all the and all that
them like yeah, hay, and that's.

Speaker 5 (16:08):
How you gotta go.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (16:11):
But there is another song that came out. It's something
like that, but it's.

Speaker 5 (16:18):
Called and All you see.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
It's it's the lyrics and it's actually good. It's good. Yeah,
it's crazy.

Speaker 5 (16:30):
But you see how how.

Speaker 4 (16:33):
Music is now, you know, like what is is and
and and it's good and it's it's something that we is,
uh where we live right now, and it's something that
we go through when we eat and listen.

Speaker 5 (16:48):
It's normal, but it's just it. It's a change. It's
such a change, you know.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Your because I went to Puerto Rico last month and
I was eating like crazy over there. It was crazy
through that. I was, yeah, my grandmam and my mom
was like.

Speaker 4 (17:11):
But la beata And that's normal, like a family member
to tell you that. You know, It's like it's just
so normal for us in our culture. But this right now,
what the lyrics, that change in melody and everything. Did
you feel that you maybe you should go out of
your comfort zone.

Speaker 5 (17:32):
Just a little bit?

Speaker 3 (17:33):
I did, you know, because I knew.

Speaker 4 (17:35):
You did one and it was like, hey, you know,
being puppy and stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
But no, I have an album it's called two one
five Girl, and that is the area coach to Philadelphia
and they I did some hip hop in it, one
of those that came really good. It's still playing now
and it's in the dance chart. Came out it's just
really nice. But I all, Sallyona, I was actually bullied

(18:05):
and it wasn't very nice because you know, you.

Speaker 5 (18:08):
Got people to hear that.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
And that was the first time, thank you, And that
was the first time that I tried hip hop and
that I got out of my conference zone. And I
tell my manager, by the way, his name is yu
Yo MC. I said, yu Yo, I would like to
do a hip hop song. So I did a little
rap and I you know, called it trying to get
a nut. Okay. You know, sometimes guys are always trying.

Speaker 5 (18:31):
To get some you know, yes, yes, you know, you
go yeah, nice and appropriate.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
You know, you just you know, singing that song. But
you know, a lot of not a lot of people,
you know, certain people that pretty much like to start
the drama and only point out things that you mess
up and because they want to call you out on it.
But when you do something good and amazing, they don't
be like, oh, awesome, girl, good job. You know, you
don't hear that. You just hear the negative.

Speaker 5 (18:57):
No, yeah, always the negative.

Speaker 4 (18:59):
And I think that's that that's what attract people, if
they start finding out and being more mean.

Speaker 5 (19:07):
But that even though that were mean, do you see
any anyone just like researching for you, like looking for
you in social media. Yeah, it did increase. Yeah, I gotta.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
Say, you know, I don't have drama. I gotta say
like three or four people that that that have they
little that have their little I don't like Evelina group
and you know, they like to start something and or
you know, I hear this from the same people, from
the same person. You know, I just ignore all that.
I ignore you that. You know, you got these people that

(19:44):
want to be fake that come up to you, but
be HI, how are you? But the same person that's
talking about you and bullying you is coming up to
me and saying hi. And I don't say hi. I
ignore you. And is there a reason why that I ignore
you or block you from all my groups on my page.
And it's because of you know, or for you acting
like a child.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
Unfortunately, And I'm sorry to hear that. You know, it's
it's it's really, you know, it's sad, especially for women
to attack each other, even and men. You know, at
the end of the day, I always think that as
long as you are talented, you you're you have the right.

Speaker 5 (20:24):
To reinvent yourself. Why not? Why not? You know?

Speaker 3 (20:29):
Why not? You know, And that was something that I
wanted to try and a lot of people liked it,
but they made it. They bullied, bullied it in the
video that it, you know, they they even took the
video down. And I don't even play the song because
of that, because of all that drama. Get they started,
you know what, that's not gonna me, you know. And

(20:52):
I'm not a hip hop artist. That's not really me,
R and B. But you know I could do hip
hop because I can't get it. Not for your love,
Sally Obien. And it came out nice and the stack
it hit the dance chart. It was just that one song,
and you know, I made a mistake, you know, I
own it in a way that you know a lot

(21:13):
of people wasn't satisfied or didn't like it, but there
are people that do like it, you know, apparently. But
you know, I'm gonna try again. I'm gonna try again
to do a nice hip hop.

Speaker 5 (21:24):
Sosten, try it again. Get out of here.

Speaker 4 (21:27):
You know, never never stop not trying to morph yourself
into whatever you're going through. I think that you know,
we go through situations and we want to try it out?

Speaker 5 (21:39):
Why not?

Speaker 3 (21:40):
Yeah, yeah, exactly, But that's okay even I you know,
I started doing a lot of like I'm Spanish, and
I'm going to continue doing Spanish because I get fantastic feedback,
right Spanish. You're doing very well in Spanish and you know,
and so that's why, you know, I like to do

(22:00):
Spanish day and you know, because I'm good at it also,
so I'm.

Speaker 4 (22:04):
Like, yeah, no, and I I hope that you continue
to write songs in Spanish, even do more videos in Spanish.

Speaker 5 (22:11):
I think that my next video will be nice.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
Spanish song has to be. I have to do a
video for that. I haven't done yet, but.

Speaker 5 (22:24):
Yeah, which that touch up? And like what's next for
you now?

Speaker 4 (22:29):
Like what's going to be next now that you're you're
saying that you're going to touch up and doing a
video for the Are.

Speaker 5 (22:33):
You gonna write a whole album?

Speaker 3 (22:35):
Are you thinking I'm actually working on an album now
that I want to release October. Ye, so, but I
haven't talked to my manager. I don't know. If I'm
going to mix it up with freestyle and Spanish, that
would be nice, yeah, just like freestyle music and Spanish
music the whole album, you know, just like a mix

(22:56):
of everything. You know. So I haven't decided, but I'm
gonna start working on that. I have to October. But
I have two singles coming out that I'm gonna be
that I'm also working on, and two videos right that
I'm working on pretty much.

Speaker 5 (23:12):
So oh, I'm glad.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
I think that is so important for an artist to
do some type of video. I mean, it doesn't have
to be you know, hike, you know, mighty I you know,
but at least to get it out of because everybody
it's all about social media right now, even at home
when you just they see news and social you know,

(23:34):
they learn about news and social media. Everything is all
online and Internet. You know, how you feel about talking
about Internet? How you feel about the Internet impacting the
music business right now? Because this is amazing how everything
is changing, you know.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
Yeah, yeah, I feel you know, it's because everybody's changing
that vibe, you know, and and they're changing a vibe
to different vibes, and like I said, they're attacking their
younger crowd. And that's where pretty much the social media is.
Everybody is on social media. It's hard, you know, if
you're over fifty if you're over forty five and you're

(24:12):
trying to, you know, compete with the young, with the
with the young artists, right. So yeah, so it's harder,
you know.

Speaker 5 (24:21):
It's it's really hard.

Speaker 4 (24:22):
There's a lot of there's a lot of there's a
lot of new meat out there.

Speaker 5 (24:27):
I gotta say like that, there's a lot of people
that are very eager, they're hunger older.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
Like I'm older, you know, I'm old school, you know,
and I have to maintain I work out every day.
I'm always in pain, you know.

Speaker 4 (24:41):
But you know what, but you look great because at
least you know you're staying active and you take care
of yourself, and you always doing some you know so much,
you know so but at least you're doing it and
it makes you feel good, you know. And I think
that transpires through anything that you you do. Are you
gonna be doing any like live presentations or any singing

(25:04):
live or any.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
But I do have a show next week. I was
hired to perform for Celebrity Boxing. I am one of
the main fighters next Saturday, March twenty second. It's gonna
be at the Harris Casino in Philadelphia, Chester. Yes, I'm
getting ready for that. I'm getting ready for That's I

(25:28):
kind of like a skirt maid with a train. You know.

Speaker 5 (25:31):
It's like, oh my goodness.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
I can see meding.

Speaker 5 (25:38):
Now, you know what. I think Mednga should do a comeback.

Speaker 4 (25:42):
Yes, yes, because that bunny did a comeback with the
salsa and is like ringing with asas. I think that
Mednga should do a comeback like you know, like fun
and like you know.

Speaker 3 (25:55):
When I saw the Meringue that day. And then I
have another show April to only six in Philadelphia at
the Harris Casino, the same spot, and I'm working on
another show in July and August. August healthily I get
to go to Brazil. They're going to do another freestyle show,
so hopefully I get to go there. But you know,

(26:16):
it's it's getting busy. You know, I can't do a
lot of shows. I have turned down shows, but because
I work a lot and I can't take off every weekend.
You know, I know it, but yeah, I don't. You know.

Speaker 4 (26:33):
I want to thank you just because you have not
stopped and you can be an inspiration to all to
all of us, because regardless of your age, if you
love your craft and you love what you do.

Speaker 5 (26:48):
Keep doing it.

Speaker 4 (26:49):
Don't stop, I know, you know, and I want to
tell you that, I know life send you curves, you know,
like things and bumps and rocks and everything, and and
I'm very happy that you continue and that you're to
staying active.

Speaker 5 (27:04):
That is that is amazing.

Speaker 3 (27:07):
That's something I like. I like to be consistent, and
that's something in my label that I've been. I've been
with them more like about maybe seven eight years, and
I'm out of all the artists, I am the most consistent.
I have like over over twenty five songs released, so
we got new artists and we have grown. It's called
SGR Records, and we have grown a lot, you know.

(27:30):
But I'm one of those that's always consistent, always consistent
because I have a lot of songs. So my manager
likes to pull out every two every three months a single.
But I told them, why don't we just keep everything
that I have and I want to do like a
whole album.

Speaker 5 (27:45):
And awesome Yeah, And I think that will be awesome.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
Yeah, and just like pretty much promoted for a whole
year and do videos. And I think That's what I'm
going to do, you know.

Speaker 4 (27:57):
Yeah, So I'm so glad and I hope that you
go on that route. Please do not be a stranger
with us, especially with me. You know, this is what's
meant to be, and I encourage you to keep going.

at so you better. You better work it, you know,
and keep inspiring us, you know, Thank you, thank you.

Speaker 5 (28:36):
