Speaker 1 (00:20):
I don't know we got all these rules.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Kids that we see on the track. I've been waiting
for this.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
All Yeah, you've been wanting it. You've been waiting in
the back of my ball for like five years, praying
inside of me, blaming me. Want to do no bird
Raine Jacket, Wayne Jacket, I racily just like you Joint davidss.
I did it for the wood. Can talk to various
drivers in their shop where they cut their teeth, blood
their blood and.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
They made their names and the sport that we love.
I'm short shot racing.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
On a tree and get back, relax and grab a

says every time, Oh you know, oh you should do this,
you should do that. You're scaring us? How we doing? Everybody?

Speaker 2 (01:01):
My name is Randy Phillips here of the Roughing Fenders podcast.
As you guys can see, we're joined by nonetheless a
legend in the short track racing. Whether he wants to
believe it or not, but he's been doing it for
a while, ever since my dad was racing. George Baldwin.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
How you been, man? Good? Good?

Speaker 2 (01:18):
I'm glad to finally meet you. I mean I watched
you race from Afar and when my dad was running
in the what were they called the Road Warriors Division
and the Spectator Race stuff like that, And I always
remember your car going around. So when when did all
this start for you? Yourself?

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Basically I grew up in it, Yeah, been around it,
and like I said, been around my whole life. Yeah.
I started driving in eighty four, but I started building,
okay with my dad thirteen, when I was thirteen.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Yeah, So so what was so what did you do
with the So like thirteen, I was pulling apart my
dad's lawnmower, not even knowing how to put it back
together for him, so he'd be all pissed off at me.
So what was your role in building that car?

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Been in the roll cage, welding it together.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Oh yeah, okay, wow, so you had.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah, I been doing like I started stick welding when
I was eight.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Oh no, shit, okay.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
I to learn how to do it, and my father
showed me and then he gave me a box of
like junk welding rods and yeah, I built a couple
of gokats and you know they felt, pot, what the hell,
Well you can well you're learning so you can put
it back together. Had to learn how to weld. Yeah, yeah,
a big deal.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
So you started racing in nineteen eighty four, right, what
did you do before? Actually nineteen eighty four? Did you
I went to the races with my brother raced, okay.
So my father started in fifty three or fifty four, okay,
and he raced all the way up till seventy three,

(03:06):
and then he stopped in seventy four.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
My brother started in the daredevil division and then.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Where was that at Hudson? Oh so there was a
daredevil okay. So that's what they were called.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
That's what they were called. And they ended up turning
into sportsmans and then turned into pro stock somebody.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Oh wow.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
My brother like never left the division.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Oh okay, gotcha.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
And so my brother took seventy five off. My father
built a modified and that was like the only time
I saw him race was like a handful of times
and basically motor problems, this problem, that stupid problem. And
that was like the only time I ever saw him race.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Gotcha.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
And then my brother went back seventy five, seventy six
to early eighties. You did a little bit here, a
little bit there, and then I started in eighty four.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
And from there yeah, yeah, yeah, no. We were talking
when I got and I was like, you retired yet,
You're like, no, it's a drug.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
I'll be all set. So your old man was.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
A part of the pines whole excursion and all that stuff.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Hudson Pines, West Pbdy Westborough.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yeah, I mean you start. You showed me some trophies
from tracks that are not even around anymore, and that's
like the nostalgic.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
Oh wow, Londonderry, Medford Bowl. Uh where else? Drake at Speedway?
He raced there. Uh he raced at some racetrack in
Connecticut that was they raced around a baseball field.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Oh okay, yeah, yeah, no, I'll have to do some digging.
But I think it was like some deserted track that
I watched or something like that.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
His brothers ran. We're running down there because two of
his brothers lived down there, and they ran down there
and they owned cause they didn't drive them.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Oh gotcha.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
And my father and on a visit, and there was
a guy there that his driver didn't show up. So
my uncle told the guys as well, put my brother
in the graces. So my brother, my father went out.
He was telling me, went down to first turn off
on the restart and completely just blew it, spun around
in the grass. They threw the caution. He going from

(05:20):
the back, and he said he drove up and he
finished like three or fourth.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Oh, well that's not bad at all.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
No, that's that's still a good piece.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
So uh, like, like I said, you showed me trophies
from tracks that weren't even around. Do you remember yourself
being there when.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Your dad ran those tracks? Or were you just like
too young? I was born in sixteen.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Oh okay, okay, and we're not even near there. Okay,
so we'll just skip ahead then.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
I'm sorry, So.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
They mean to show your age there, I apologize. So
so nineteen eighty four what did you start in street
street stock? So where's that like? Actually, so like I've
talked to a couple of people and they're like, oh,
there was hobby stocks, there were street stocks. There was
there was like two different divisions at the same time.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
When I started street stocks, it was kind of when
they started going to the bud lights to letting old
pro stocks in. And most of the street stocks are
still street stocks. You know, you gotted the car, you
put a cage in it, you did suspension work, stuff
like that.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
You gotcha.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
But they started letting the other crazy cost come in
and stuff. And I mean, like I said, I built
the motor myself at fifteen years old. Ok. Yeah, Junkyard Motor.
Put them together and it blew up four races five
races in and then I just didn't have another one
and I didn't feel like putting it back together, so
I just drove my cousin Dave's. I built a car

(06:48):
for him for his rookie class. Dave reel Okay, yep.
It was a six cylinder Maverick with a three on
the tree. Oh there you go. That's different, and he'd
drive it. I drive a few times, and then his
father bought another car or something and for a spare,
and then I'd end up driving that and sorry about Ata, No, no, no,

(07:11):
no nowhere. He's just got to stay a little bit.
But no, they'll be fine. And then eighty five I
built the thunder car, Yeah, which was a sixty six
Duke Skylock GS that I cut up for a race car. Wow.
Yeah yeah, but sixteen year old kid, you know, yeah,

(07:33):
he didn't really matter back then. They were dime a dozen. Yeah,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
And I mean my dad used to wreck transams and
they're with a lot of money now, you know what
I mean. He's like, he's like, we could have a
whole mansion by now with all the cars I wreck.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
I think of the cars that we cut up for
race cars and cause that we even junked just to
junk them.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Yeah, so, uh what was it called a thunder thunder?
Thunder car?

Speaker 1 (07:58):
So what what was that? Where was that? It was?
They had so many rookie cars back in eighty eighty four, okay,
that some guy wanted to make a make like the
A class into a different class than the rookies. So
they came up with had to be automatics, okay. So

(08:22):
and then they put them on a seven inch M
and H racing tire and that was really it, you
know what I mean. So it was kind of not
quite a street stock, but it was more like basically
like now, like the slink shots.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Oh okay, gotcha, kind of like that, except you know,
it was three fifties, not small block ball back in
the day. I guess that's all they have.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Yeah, yeah enough, oh okay, gotcha, So somewhat the slink shots. Yeah,
and so I started. I went in that class. I
ran that class quite a bit. Eighty five, eighty six,
I drove for my cousin's father, which he was my
cousin too. Yeah, I drove for him. In eighty six

(09:10):
with seventy one over in the rookie class three H
seven automatic won my first race.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Oh so that's when you got your first win?

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (09:19):
Okay, So how was that? I mean you probably ran
against a bunch of heavy hitters back in the day,
back that time, right forty Yeah, Yeah, that's what I mean.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
You I always had to stop in the back, fast
guys in the back, Yeah, ride down the backstretch, look
over at the flagman. I men, he lifted his n
You just went to the outside with the throttle down
and full wide and hopefully you make it out the
other end and you're all set. You're up to about
tenth and no time.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Yeah, so how did how did the first win go
for you? Do you remember it really well?

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Or yeah? Yeah you actually gonh. I took the lead
one like I don't know.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Actually lap five, oh okay, you're moving.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
I was moving and ended up almost lost it on
the last lap Buddy Wilkins got into me.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Wow, okay, so same old Buddy Wilkins that does like
the spectator stuff now, so he was running that stuff.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Yeah, oh okay, No, ship straight out got back by
him and won the race.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Then there you go. I mean, that's a that's a
very familiar name for Hutton Speedway. I mean he's been
around forever too, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
So, yeah, he's a fixture.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Well yeah, that's for sure. He's his own little character.
I love seeing him every year every year, just like, yeah, yeah,
I know for sure. So uh so first one was
what eighty seven?

Speaker 1 (10:51):
He said?

Speaker 2 (10:52):
Eighty six?

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Okay, so.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
So were you just racing for people eighty six or no?

Speaker 1 (11:01):
I ran a little bit and then I decided I
wanted to put my own car back together. Gotcha put
that back together. I went out and ran and top
five stuff like that. Didn't never couldn't get a win
in that in that car, and that's the class. Went
back in eighty seven with a new motor and everything.
Still couldn't get a win. Cot was just sing to

(11:22):
weigh four thousand pounds. Yeah, Yeah, led sleds out there
back in the day. And then in eighty eight I
built another car, went back into the rookies because I
couldn't afford to racing ties and stuff. And yeah, then
we popped off a couple couple of wins, and then
the following year we redid the car again and popped

(11:43):
off a bunch of them. Then the Guy got destroyed,
so we went the Star. Yeah, ran as a street stock,
a little bit of success, get thrown out for fighting.
You were about it back in the day. Went back
to the Hut and moved up one division. Yeah, the
back into the thunder cars. First time back one, popped

(12:05):
off a couple of mole wins, and then ninety I
went to staff full time the Star full time, so
built one of them. Stupid metrics.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Yeah you like those?

Speaker 1 (12:17):
Okay, so uh wow, what was my question? Oh so
so throughout that whole time, what what was the car?
Was it the same car or was it or did
you eighty what was that? Eighty six? Eighty seven the

(12:37):
thunder car was the same guy?

Speaker 2 (12:38):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (12:39):
And then eighty eight I built a fiber Oh and that's.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
What started the whole.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
But the buick that I had, yeah, that had coil
springs in it. But me and my father get tired
of working on the car, cut him out, put sings
in the back. It's the only gring. Well you are
known for.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
Ingenuity on on that side, that's for sure. I mean,
I uh, I was gonna call you the chassis king,
but but James is like calling the chassis outlaw, because
I mean there was a like recently a couple of
years ago, they didn't even like your chassis all together.
So you're really good with what you do, you know
what I mean, you know your stuff, That's what I'm saying.

(13:23):
So like like you're saying like it was the only
buick with a leaf right leaf springs in the back,
I mean pretty ingenuity, you know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (13:32):
You made it work. I mean it was all junkyard stuff.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it was made was cut off.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
Of something else, like the rare shackle brackets will cut
off of a Ford truck. Yeah. Yeah, I think they're
out of a nova. My father added leafs to them
and beat him with a sludgeham and put him in.
You were just massaging them, you know what I mean.
You're just massage in the suspension. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
So, uh so eighty eight right, that's what we're up
to now. He popped off a lot of winds with
that firebird.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
And eighty nine I popped off a few more. Yeah,
in three different divisions.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Oh okay, well that's pretty good. So what what were
the divisions? Could you just change a couple of things
and then just go into another division or was it.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
The beginning of the year was rookies. Yeah. Then I
left Hudson because the car got destroyed, and I went
to Star ran it as a street stock. Yeah, with
minor changes after a new body got put on. Then
I went back to Hudson. There's a thunder car yeah,
and one and that, oh okay, with the same cad.

(14:48):
And then I built that metric co because everybody had
Metric cars, and I said, well, I got to learn
coil springs if I'm going to stay in this because
eventually I'm going to need to know. Yeah, and I
built that. It's the worst. How was that? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (15:01):
How was the How was the MAgric car? Just different?

Speaker 1 (15:05):
We are you just like not used to it? I
don't know. Hi's I didn't really know what I was doing. Yeah, yeah,
I mean I was still I don't know, these cars
worth a ship. So I was still anything you say,
I'd be like, okay, I was still green and I
wouldn't listen to my father and stuff like that. So
then so you learned. So I learned, Yeah, I tried

(15:26):
tried things on my own.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Yeah, yeah, you learned. Yeah yeah yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
I had a lot of money spent in springs. I
know that because that was basically the Freshky I ran
racing springs and yeah, all the other ones I cut
them out of trucks.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Well, hey, you made it work, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
That's how I was taught. And so then ninety one,
the winter ninety one, I cut the front clip off
the car and I well the camoro clip in it. Oh,
so that's and then went I ran it the whole year,
and then I went back in ninety two and they

(16:03):
told me I couldn't run it anymore as a street stock.
I said, why, what's the problem, Well, you gotta come
out clipping. So I had it in last year. Yeah,
what's the problem. Well, we didn't catch you last year.
We caught you this year. Okay. So they said I
could run it as a bud light. That's the like really,

(16:25):
So I went, so, what were.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
The bud lights back in ninety one?

Speaker 1 (16:29):
You know what I mean? Basically a pro stock, full
bloom pro stock.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
So they wanted you to run a street stock out
there with him?

Speaker 1 (16:36):
Holy shit?

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Yeah, so what I imagine if you popped off of
winning that?

Speaker 1 (16:41):
Well, we went, we went out and practiced and we
were like third fast. Holy shit. Okay, so I'm just
like wow, And then we broke the rare wren. Yeah. So,
but they told us we could run as a fund
the card Hudson was legal for that, and then by
then they got rid of the automatic stuff, gotcha. So
I all right, Well, I already bought the tie is

(17:02):
on the same agent, Slicks. So I went over there
and we went opening day. We won the second week.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
Oh there you go.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
We finished like third for the third week. Then we
popped off five wins and we won the championship. The
first time I ever ran a full season Hudson speeder.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
So that was ninety one ninety two, So that's when
you first clicked off your first championship. So you've been
at Hudson on and off pretty much.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
What are we at?

Speaker 2 (17:33):
So you started in eighty four, so now we're at
ninety two, So eight years you've been on and off there.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
What were they?

Speaker 2 (17:43):
What were your favorite characteristics of We'll go into the championship,
but what was your favorite characteristics about Hudson back in
that day?

Speaker 1 (17:51):
I mean it was just it was a race track, Okay,
gotcha where I grew up. Yeah yeah, yeah, I've been
going just right down the road, you know what I mean? Yeah, gotcha?

Speaker 2 (18:00):
Gotcha?

Speaker 1 (18:03):
Style was like a you know a little bit better
place to race. Yeah yeah, and forget Lee. I wouldn't
even I hate that place. Snake bitting or no lockoka,
I gotcha. I want to I want to race by
somebody else getting.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Man yeah when yeah, win is a win.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Ever since then, I'd get flats and just snake betting. Yeah,
that's what it is in somebody else's wreck. It's just
like when I ran down went down to Thompson and
ran some I'd always get caught up in somebody else's ship. Yeah,
and then when you crashed on it, it's h oh yeah, yeah,
I know.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
When you crash at Thompson, you know you're carrying some speed.
So ninety two your first ever championship, right, and and
like ever driving, who do you have to beat to
get that?

Speaker 1 (19:03):
Uh? Phil Meeni at Brio, Dennis Maxwell, a few other guys. Yeah.
So a couple of the nights, they different cars that
showed up, had different drivers like Gary Cassella, Peter Vandakai. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Yeah, so you ran against Fandaca and Philberroll. Yeah yeah,
you know.

Speaker 1 (19:31):
That was that year. And then then the following year
I built my first Camaro snout toob chassis car with
Lee springs to run as a bud light. And when
I was building, everybody was laughing. You put me springs
in the springs telling the cot of the track. We'll see.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Oh so that's when the stigma, and that's when you
started hearing about the diferent trailers and ship like that.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
I've heard that my whole career. So when we built that,
we ended up we had no motor in the car,
and because I didn't have enough money to build a motor. Yeah,
So good friend of mine, Louis Mitchelitas, he let me
borrow a motor from his uh Monty s that he had,

(20:18):
and we changed the cam and the oil pin and
put it in the car, and I ran it the
whole year, oh okay. And we popped off a win
It style bunch of top fives and stuff. Finished sixth
in points and we ran it at Hudson quite a bit,
a couple of seconds and it's like seventh in points

(20:39):
over there. But I didn't run all year. And then
the following the year we get the new motor done.
It's more chassis upgrades. Yeah, And then popped off five
wins in the bud Light Yes, okay.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
So was that a traveling thing or was that just
a thing that happened at Star gotcha?

Speaker 1 (20:58):
Russ Conway started the Vision, oh okay. Basically it was
sponsored by bud Light. First they were called Lightnings Lightnings,
and then he got the sponsored through Budweiser, and then
it was the bud Light Lightnings, and then they just
kept kept the name even though Budwiser start sponsoring.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
Oh yeah, I mean they were they were their own thing.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
Yeah, you know what I mean. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
So that was ninety three, that's when you started doing
the bud Lights stuff.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
Ninety four with my own car, and then ninety five
I get a phone call from Neil Murray. Nasty Neil,
that's me the driver his pro Stock. Sure, why not?

Speaker 2 (21:39):
Is that the that the picture at Thompson No, oh okay,
So a different one that was a style was the
White seven, the White seven, Okay, gotcha.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
So they called it. They used to call it cop
Mighty White, the old Mighty whitey. Believe me, it was old.
But I got my first pro Stock winn it. So
and then they ended up buying another car and I
won ant And at the end of the year I
had two or three opportunities to drive for other people.

(22:10):
They found out I didn't even say what I was doing. Yeah,
and they were just like, you know, last day, we
need to know, I don't know, Well we need to
know now as well. You want to have that much
one attitude? No, not driving for So that was for Neil.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
Ye okay, So who did you who did you end
up running for or did you go do your own
thing again or no?

Speaker 1 (22:35):
I didn't do my own thing, but I had a
brand pro stock I was building, and I ended up
driving for Leon and Kevin Holmes, okay, in the forty
four car and we ran bud lights and stuff, gotcha.
And one ten out of seventeen races.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
That's not bad at all.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
Finished fourth in points? Yeah that whoa what? Yeah? Old on?

Speaker 2 (22:53):
So you won ten out of seventeen races and you
finished fourth in points yep, so that field must have
been fucking stacked.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
Now I'll get the cuted Open Day.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
Oh okay, so that'll do it.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
Yeah. Because they bought I didn't know anything about it, yeah, yeah,
which everybody thinks I did. They bought nine inch wheels,
was supposed to have eight.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
Oh gotcha.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
I finished second in the race after getting spun out
like three times. Yeah, and finished second to Paul Matthews.
Got de qued. So those double points, So now I'm down.
I started coming back from winning races when I got
up to like thirden points, yeah, like thirty away, and

(23:35):
it was a big wreck on the backstretch and I
went all the way down to the infield try to
avoid it, and I forget who it was, but they
came off the top of the racetrack with the leg
and it hit me in the right race so hot,
I have more cambet than the right front and yikes.
So it ended that day and the point leader, which
was Pete Vandaka, he ended up going on and winning
the race, his only winning the year, and Matthews was

(23:59):
thirden points he's fourth. So basically, yeah, yeah, just out
of contention. I didn't care.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
Yeah, You're just there to race. I mean that's what
you love to do, you know what I mean. So,
I guess that's a good question. Do you do you
even care about wins championships? Are you just there to have?

Speaker 1 (24:20):
Well? I get that.

Speaker 2 (24:22):
Let me let me rephrase that. So do you care
about points chasing? Or you just want to be there
for the hardware? That's all you care about?

Speaker 1 (24:29):
Gotcha? Gotcha?

Speaker 2 (24:30):
No I care about Yeah, No, I get that. Every
racer is like that. Everybody wants there to win. I
mean you might as well just do something else if
you ain't just there to hang out. Yeah, So I mean,
like going back into it, I mean, even with them
like ten wins, I mean, that's a lot of wins,

(24:53):
you know what I mean, and then still finished fourth.
I mean, that's just it's crazy, you know what I mean.
I mean, that's like that's consistency, you know what I mean.
It was a tight pack racing, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
So yeah, I mean we only had to you know,
not counting the disqualification. We had one d NF, which
was that one race, gotcha. But the rest were like,
I think the worst finish was a sixth.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
Oh gotcha.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
So so.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
Racing against Peter van Doka and.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
St Matthews, Duncan Miller, Barry Raymond List goes on and
keeps going.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
It was just it was just a lot of heavy
headers out there, a lot of champions and in their
own right and definitely competitive people, you know what I mean.
So that was ninety what was that ninety six? Ninety six? Okay,
so this is when my old man started coming around.

Speaker 1 (25:47):
So ninety seven what you do started in pro Starks
with the same car, gotcha and gotta win, got involved
in a bunch of rex that had nothing really to
do with me. So I got fired.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
You got fired. It must have been the first time. Yeah, Actually,
was that your first time ever getting fired. Said you
were too hard on the equipment.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
Yeah so uh who were you running for the homes? Yes?

Speaker 2 (26:25):
Still so so what did you What did you do
after that?

Speaker 1 (26:30):
Uh? I ended up buying my old cod back off
my cousin okay, yeah, and me and somebody else and
ended up we put it together, went the Star. It
was a butt light. It was like Webber would stop me.
She told, we need a show. Stop me wherever you want,

(26:54):
don't care, I'll give you a show. Yeah. First night,
you know, we qualified to the heat race. So you're
supposed start like twelfth and no worse than twelveth Yeah,
he started to me sixteenth. I said to me, I said,
we'll talk with that show. That's okay? Is this old
man Webber? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (27:13):
Oh okay, okay. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
So I drove up, got second, Okay, missed the winning
the race. Okay, no big deal. Next week we go back,
same deal. Cool, the heat starts me fourteenth, I assume
I'm moving up. Finished second. Yeah. So, but we had

(27:35):
my pro stock motor in and we had a small
intake on it at the time because it's all you
could run, and and I was like, I told a
friend of mine that was with me on the crew.
I sais, I'm getting sick of this second ship. I
need some I need a little bit more esteem. So
he says, well, we're going to an ad knock. So
we can't do nothing until we go to an ad knock.

(27:55):
Because we're going to an ad knock. Try to get
ready for a hundred lap. So we went to an
ad knock ran as a pro stock, so they had
big race, Yeah, a lot of four hundred laps. Oh yeah,
And so we went there. It was decent in the
heat race. Yeah, I made a couple of adjustments. Started
the feature drive down and the turn. One kid that's

(28:18):
on the outside, like the next row up in front
of me, he decided that he wants to fit between
me and the guy that's in front of me, which
couldn't probably put a piece of paper, hit that guy
in the right rear, hit me in the right front,
bent my cent a link, cut that guy's tied down.

Speaker 2 (28:32):
So what a fucking mess.

Speaker 1 (28:34):
Yeah, so I end up running the whole race, would
have ben cent a link trying to figure out why
the cow was so tight. Yeah, yeah, at least it
wasn't a hundred lapper and I'm like, so the next
that's on a Friday night. Yeap. So the next morning
we get up and Star was running the Bush Guys
that day, so we had to be it sty early. Well,

(28:56):
I'll put the cental link in at the track. I'm
not gonna deal with it now. I'm loading the cap
and loading the back up. So we got the track unloaded,
the car, put the sent link end, went out, finished forth.
This is good. This is getting annoyed.

Speaker 2 (29:10):
Yeah, I hear that. So what were the bush cars?
What do you mean the bush Cars series?

Speaker 1 (29:16):
Bush North? Oh?

Speaker 2 (29:17):
So they went wow, no ship.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
Yeah, they were stuff. They used to go once a year.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
Oh okay, gotcha. So then so you're running against Bush
North guys.

Speaker 1 (29:24):
No, I wasn't there. I wasn't racing with that one,
but they were there. So they were there running their
own show.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
Oh okay, gotcha.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
Gotcha. And we had to be there early. Yeah, because
the gate opened at like nine in the morning. In
early morning.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
Yeah yeah, neither, it's probably work nights.

Speaker 1 (29:39):
Yeah. So then half that doubt, we decided to changing
the intake, and we changed the intake, went back up,
won the race, went to Canean the next day.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
Oh, Wow, yeah, that's when.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
Yeah. Uh, I never seen Canaan in my life. Oh
so this is the first time ever, first time. Okay,
we're driving the gate and was.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
This dirt or this was asphalt? This was the asphalt track? Gotcha?

Speaker 1 (30:06):
So we drive in and people are pocketing and the
pit area and we pull it on. There's a concrete pad.
We rolled the car off some guys from Oxford to
the park next to us, and then on the other
side of them was the homes guys. Oh gotcha, excuse me.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
Fighting back already.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
Yeah. So the Oxford guys are looking at the back
of my car because we took the redcover off because
there's no rules. So we took the red cover off
and guys looking at the back of my car, and
he goes, thing's got least brings in it, and I said, yeah,
I just took him out of a pickup truck out
a parking lot. So I now I'm like, I'm like,

(30:48):
where's where's the racetrack? I see the dirt track. Whe's
the housphalt track. And they're like, oh, you gotta go
over the bridge, over the bridge, So well, am I
going back home? So drive over the bridge, take a
hot right drive out onto the track. I drive on
the track. I'm like, just the speedway. Oh wow. So
it was like set up like that, Yeah, pretty pretty much.
And uh, same guy built it. Oh okay, that makes sense,

(31:10):
said what was third mile? Oh?

Speaker 2 (31:12):
Gotcha.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
So I go out and I'm in practice and I'm
lapping CAUs like crazy. They come into the says my
crew was at yellow light one out there and I
wasn't didn't see it. They're like, no, that's just how
much faster you out and everybody else?

Speaker 2 (31:25):
Holy shit.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
I was like, oh, okay, you know, I didn't know
where the fast guys were or anything, and I didn't
even know if they were out there. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (31:32):
Yeah, that's true because it's the first time ever being
at Canaan. Yeah, so yeah, that makes sense.

Speaker 1 (31:36):
Well, they stopped me lasting the heat. They drive up
and I finished second in the heat, and they started
me last in the feature and they put the home
skut on the pole, which he was already running there
quite a bit, I guess. Yeah. It was twenty five
lap race. I think it took me like six laps
and I was in second and then I was trying
to pass them top bottom and he's running me all
over the racetrack and finally they just punted him.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
I got sick of.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
Punting them. Put him off the top of turn one.
I'm riding around on the caution going, yeah, I'm going
to the back. I'm going to back. That will put
me to the back. Left. We won that night, Oh
there you go. Bought one tire. Oh that's not bad.
So one weekend we made nine hundred bucks's and bought
one tire. Holy fuck. So that's a pretty good deal.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
So how did that go about? After that?

Speaker 1 (32:27):
Was it just is what it is? My crew was yelling.
They were yelling back and forth in the grands dance.
Yeah yeah, and because one of my crew guys was
Brian Gaggan, so you know how he's got such a
mouth on him. Actually my wife's best friend. And uh so,

(32:48):
I mean he's a good laugh. Yeah yeah, you know,
but uh, I guess they were yelling back and forth
in the grand stands and no, there's no fight or nothing.
Yeah yeah, yeah, I come in and nobody said is
not to me? And we load up and head home.
And the following week at Star it's the Classic and
he did there with the car and the driver comes

(33:09):
over to me, which was Eric Leaclear. Yeah, when he
says to me, he says, you know, I should have
ran you a lot cleaner than I did. I said, yeah,
you wouldn't have got punted. You would a good second.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
Yeah that's true.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
You know, so that was a little way faster than
you were. So he's like, yeah, I know, but they
told me you were going to just rough me all up.
Like dude, you were off the backstret to put me
in the infield. Who was roughing who up? Yeah, but
you're so like back in the day where you where
they were you an aggressive, aggressive driver. Obviously you didn't

(33:45):
try to rough people up, you know what I mean,
But you were people the way exactly was aggressive. I had. Yeah,
you had to be the way I looked at it.
I had a job to do, yeah, exactly to get
to the front. You weren't there to hang out. No,
it is what it is, No hanging out afterwards, Yeah,
hang out while we're up.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
Yeah, no, I hear you. So, yeah, I was just
asking because he said that you would rough them up.
And but like you said, looking just just waiting for
you to stop fucking driving into me. So classic night.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
Yeah, we ended up h We were riding for a
while because it was thirty laps supposedly, and then I
get spun out. I forgured who spun me out? Somebody
spun me out. I had to go to the back.
Yeah it was twenty six CAUs wow. Yeah, So I
pulled the old rookie thing, looking at watching the flagman

(34:38):
on the backstretch jump to the outside, threw three and
four on the outside. Hopefully I made it by the wall.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
Yeah, I mean that's pretty a fucking tight.

Speaker 1 (34:47):
Yeah there. Yeah, I had to put my faith in
other people.

Speaker 2 (34:52):
Yeah, oh yeah, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
And I got the second and I looked at my
cousin Paul Real was leading. Yeah, uh, I'm catching them
and I'm catching them on catching them and then next thing,
you know, two to go, and I look up its
twenty three laps, like this is supposed to be thirty
in the white flag then the checkered they stop afterwards,
and I said to Jim Biebie, which was the flag man, Yeah,

(35:17):
it's uh, it was supposed to be thirty laps, but
if you guys weren't driving like a bunch of assholes,
it would have been thirty laps. I was like, okay,
so was it green to checkered all the way from
that or was it just a long fucking night. It
was a long day. Time to get them off the
fucking track.

Speaker 2 (35:34):
Yeah, yeah, I know, I know how that goes.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
Yeah. And that was the last time they ran by lights.

Speaker 2 (35:40):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (35:41):
So ninety seven yep, ninety seven wow. And then they
started that stupid six truck race thing. Sick.

Speaker 2 (35:49):
Oh that was the road Warrior stuff.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
No, No, the bigger trucks that they had at stuff. Oh,
the Connecticut trucks when they go pro trucks they called them.
They called them pro trucks, a lightning truck. Sorry, I
have no idea. I'll have to that's my old man.
They were basically Camaro snout tube chassis. Yeah, pro stock
with a truck body.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
Oh geez, okay, gotcha.

Speaker 1 (36:12):
And they had six of them. Oh oh, four years,
big flop. I should have left the bud Light division exactly.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
I mean the bud Light still stayed around. I mean
it'd be another pro stock division, and.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
I mean webs. Theory was the pro stocks were losing
cock coums, which they had like anywhere from sixteen to twenty,
so he figured he was gonna have a big field
of them, which he did for a little while. Yeah. Non,
it just yeah fizzles out.

Speaker 2 (36:40):
Yeah, well people people go and move on to other things.
You know what I mean a lot of people throughout
the years, like you stayed racing, a lot of people
throughout those.

Speaker 1 (36:48):
Years stopped racing. Oh you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
It's just one of those things. So what did you
do in ninety eight?

Speaker 1 (36:58):
Then took same car, ran into pro stalks? Oh so
you just for a little bit. Yeah, then I had
this brain scam. Then I'm gonna get an s K.
Thompson race. So is that where that modified come into it?
That was the first one that was your Okay, gotcha
got that? How was that money pit? Money pit? Yeah? Yeah,

(37:21):
just uh nothing nothing worked. He can kill for a reason. Yeah,
not motor problems and overheating problems mostly. Yeah, then we
got that figured out. Then we broke the motor, so
just pocket it cured itself. Yeah pocket. So we were
lucky enough to find somebody to buy it. So yeah,

(37:44):
nice guy, sucker, but yeah, yeah, I don't blame you.
So that was just like a one off year thing. Yeah,
it was just brain fut started driving for Richard Kle
Dicky Kill in the seven M.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
Okay, so back into the pro stocks again. So pro
stocks were a big thing, like really big back in
the day.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
Yeah, you have a lot of heavy hitters. Yeah, yeah,
a lot of heavy hitters and uh so nine I
think we I don't even know what we finished opening day,
but we ended up finish winning five races that year.
I finished third points. Yeah, more. We want more races
than anybody. Charlie Rose won the championship. We're not winning
the race, Charlie Rose, that's still races today. Holy shit. Yeah, okay,

(38:36):
I had a shot at the championship, but in the
heat race, yeah, coil fell off. Explain the coil what
the coil wire ignition? Oh the coil? Okay, sorry fell
off on theer caution.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
Oh damn.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
So I lost those points, which was basically what I
lost the championship.

Speaker 2 (38:58):
Oh fucking just one of those things, yep, one of
those things.

Speaker 1 (39:05):
And the following yeah, I drove the same car. We
won five races again for the second in points to
go Han And the last day I tried to have
his cop protested because you're supposed to have permanent chassis.
He had a straight rail. Yeah, some goofy looking sidebars
coming off of it. Yep. It was all offset and everything.

(39:26):
And we put up the money for the NASCAR thing
to get a protest, and they gave me my money back.
Oh they didn't even bother. So that's that. That's the
that's what it is. Man. That's not a couple of
times too.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
And I'm like, all right, thanks.

Speaker 1 (39:43):
That's that. Appreciate it. Not your turn yet, yeah, yeah, yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (39:47):
Know, I get that.

Speaker 1 (39:48):
So the double zero's come around the two thousands, I
mean two thousand, well no, yeah, ninety nine and two thousand.
I drove to seven.

Speaker 2 (39:59):
Oh okay, so it for two years, yes, gotcha.

Speaker 1 (40:02):
I thought it was still like on ninety nine or something. Well, hey,
it's whatever, Hey, whatever you want to talk about, you
know what I mean? Uh? Oh? One, got married and
there you go. Started racing again for Dickie, got wrecked
out opening day, got fired, second fire, second fire. I

(40:26):
have a one race, one race. Damn. My wife actually races.
What did you start ninety nine? Ninety nine?

Speaker 2 (40:37):
Oh she raced too, Yeah, what's she running?

Speaker 1 (40:40):
The hornets ladies rookie class? Oh no, ship, no ship
the Happy Hornets. You win any Yeah, she won, uh
two thousand, she won six.

Speaker 2 (40:55):
Oh wow, okay, drove better move your trophies over.

Speaker 1 (41:01):
Got her own run ninety nine. She drove Joe Edwards's
car just on a you had like a rookie rookie
and type car. Yeah. He talked to her and she's like, yeah,
I want to try it, so well take my car
and try it. So he'd be at the track, little Joey.
He was driving the car. She dried the cow. He
had to put a blanket behind.

Speaker 2 (41:22):
Her, get hit the battles.

Speaker 1 (41:25):
And then one night he says to me, he says, oh,
just take the I'm gonna drop the car and trailer
off to you. I'm we're going away. So if she
wants to run the car, run it all right. So
I brought it in, I did a little bit of
work to it, and uh so we're up there and
I said, let's do this. I'm gonna run in the
rookie feature.

Speaker 2 (41:44):
So you got a hornet Happy Hornets.

Speaker 1 (41:47):
So she could run it, which was the same cause yeah, yeah,
I just wanted to go out and have some fun. Yeah. Yeah,
started last I think I finished fifth that's not bad
at all. Thing only got to throw five into something. Yeah,
the thing was on just about ready to dive beside,
and she got in the car. And so then two
thousands she raised, I raced, and then one.

Speaker 2 (42:10):
That must have been a busy year. Huh two thousands, So.

Speaker 1 (42:14):
What were you running? You were running the running a
pro stock, pro stock. You were running a street a street,
rookie stock, rookie stock, ladies, rookies. Yeah, so that's a
fucking busy shop. Yeah, then one and then a one.
Like I said, I got fired from the seven album,
got married, got married, got married first.

Speaker 2 (42:34):
Got married first, Then he got fired.

Speaker 1 (42:36):
And honeymoon was going to Syracuse, New York. Were you raised? Yeah? Oh, okay, okay,
So that's where the Syracuse, New York comes into it. Syracuse,
New York into a gokat track, went up there with
the m Kennedy's. They let me borrow a cot Oh
there you go. Jeff Shamble built me a motor. It
wouldn't run with an ankling or on it, a little

(42:57):
brigs things sounded like a small block. Chevy ended up
winning the qualifier and we won the race. Oh that
ain't bad at all pretty fun. And I like how
they did tech there. They had the top five there.
They asked them if they want to tech a notot
raise your hand if you want tech. Nobody raised their hand.
So it's an open show tonight. So the tech guy

(43:19):
goes a bunch of cheap.

Speaker 2 (43:25):
They should do that every week.

Speaker 1 (43:27):
That's what I'm saying. Leave it up to leave it
up to the driver. Yeah, we mean they're out there
putting them on the show. You know what I mean,
you want to tech? No cheap? You know, man, whoever
raises their hand if there's only one and he's the
one that's gonna get tex, Oh yeah, I gotcha. And
then uh oh two oh three we went pro stalks

(43:53):
of Thompson staff on and off. Oh four we went
up the Canan with the street stock that we built.
And I had my car, Yeah, her car, my friend
Jay Colta which he actually ha John mcknnedy's old rookie
Cadoday built. Okay. We were all running in the same

(44:15):
class street stocks having having a blast. Yeah. And then
oh five, I had to sit out because I had
to have next surgery. Oh I slipped disc of my neck.
Is that because of racing? Or just because it happened,
fell off dumb truck backwards, landed on my head, partying.

Speaker 2 (44:31):
No, that's that's that's scary.

Speaker 1 (44:37):
Yeah, it wasn't good. And so six went back to
Canaan and ran the street Stock and won the championship.
Oh there you go. Then seven we went to All
Star Speed.

Speaker 2 (44:49):
Oh Jesus Christ, Yeah, let's go into this fucking All
Star fucking speedway.

Speaker 1 (44:54):
Oh man, Well yeah, all Stop Speed. We ran a
pro stock in the street Stock were on cool, and
then we stopped running the pro Stock because we're struggling
with it a little bit because Dicky had passed and gotcha.
It's basically all you know. It was on me and
there's just too much with two cars and I'm trying
to run that, trying to run the shop and all

(45:15):
that stuff. I just said, you know. And then one
day I caught up my buddy Jay and I say,
I'm gonna go. I want to go racing this weekend.
What are we What are we running? But we are
running that shipbox pro Stock's We're gonna run the street stock.
All right, I'll go, I'll meet you. So we go.
We ended up winning, which was great. It's like I

(45:38):
think we took to leave it like full laps to
go or something on the outside. And yeah, it was.
It was a blast. You know, it's just a whim
thing and you go out and you win and it
makes everything more more satisfacing happy. And then, uh, but
how was All Star Speedway. I've heard a lot of
ship about that place. I mean rubber checks, rubber checks. Yeah,

(46:00):
oh yeah, I know. Hopefully one day you got your winnings.
Rubber checks, rubber checks, I don't know. In ninety eight
we ran the car same castreet Stock, Yeah, and we
went out one like four in a row. Then they
sold the car at Rob mccraig. Then I went and
bought another modified. Oh the big Bot No small buck, motherfucker.

(46:20):
Oh oh so like this, yep, gotcha, it's like that one,
and put my put my pro stock motor in it,
ran it pretty good. And what were you running that stuff?
All Star? Oh? So they had the mods they had there,
so it was like a weekly fucking thing. Yeah, that's
why that's howm fucking started. Yep. So I ran that

(46:47):
ninety in the ninety eight, ran it ninety nine a
little bit. Yeah, broke a couple of motors. Then twenty
ten style wasn't open, so we were trying to run,
had one motor fixed, and we decided to let's go
down and run it as an SK. We actually know
Thompson had like an open modified deal. Yeah yeah, we

(47:09):
went down there. We we should be all right, we
should be all right. Yeah, we were battling with like twelve.
I'm like, yeah, this is good. So we changed some stuff,
decided to run it as an SK and just went
down there twice and just motor wouldn't even like do anything.

(47:29):
It just wouldn't even turn up, wouldn't do nothing. And
then I just pocked it. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (47:33):
Yeah, it's just a fucking headache. Yeah, money, money pit, Yeah,
money pit, headache. Fucking just do away with that.

Speaker 1 (47:41):
Then brought them out of the Rocky at Arena machine
and he built me a good motor, which I still
have it and I ran twenty eleven on the Stop Speedway.
Still have it. Into the back room. You have a
back room, a little back room.

Speaker 2 (47:57):
Oh gotcha, gotcha. That's we're all and nostalgic.

Speaker 1 (48:01):
Now. Parts as to how to carry a motor up.

Speaker 2 (48:08):
Stairs, Yeah yeah, I know, I hear that. So you
still have that motor yep.

Speaker 1 (48:13):
So we ran twenty eleven is uh with the modified
and we won a few and got thirty points. I'm bad.
Do you ever do any of the tour stuff? We
ran a couple MRS races. We ran one of beach Ridge,
made it in qualified in I was beach Ridge. You
had a race in the packing a lot. Yeah, okay,

(48:35):
so let's sand.

Speaker 2 (48:40):
I mean, I mean that place closed down.

Speaker 1 (48:42):
It was decent this year. The first time Ember being
there was you know, different, it was different. It was different,
just just totally different. Like you know, I ran a
couple of times and that place took me forever to
get used to too. It's just you there's no straightaway.
Yeah yeah, you're always turning, just like Oxford and stuff
like that. Gotcha, It's had for a guy to get

(49:03):
used to that when he's raised on tracks they had
straight aways for that's true twenty two years and thirty years.
And so then sold that took the year off or no,
what I do? I don't know? Yeah two even I
ran modified. So then after that, trying to think of

(49:23):
what I did, didn't do anything for a little while,
and then we bought the Camaro back off of Rob mcraig. Okay,
going out a race, put the motor in, out of
the modified, put that in.

Speaker 2 (49:41):
Okay, I mean it's already fucking there if I get yeah, yeah, yeah,
that's true.

Speaker 1 (49:46):
And it was basically a street stock and we won
one at Hudson and then, uh, the cow was a
little bent up and stuff. The clip was bent because
Rob bounce off the wall a couple of times. And
then I got into a record with it when I
had it, so I just would never go the same
every week, you know, And I'm like, I know what
the problem is. So I just pocked it, yeah, which

(50:08):
I wasn't running for points. I didn't care. Yeah yeah, yeah,
And I redid the whole car, cut it all up,
redid the whole car, ran it those and the following
year and then I ended up. We ran Hudson and
I don't even know what you did. It was.

Speaker 2 (50:28):
I think it was thirteen, twenty twelve. We were just
bouncing around. Yeah that's when they clipping ship.

Speaker 1 (50:33):
Yeah that's when I ran at the end of the year.

Speaker 2 (50:35):
Gotcha, gotcha?

Speaker 1 (50:36):
So thirteen we ran the car, ran a handful of
at Hodson one one opening day, and then broke the
next week and then I forget what happened after that
happened in the outlaws. Yeah, so you guys got no
Big Bob uh pocked the car. Then we went to
Clamont for their open shows.

Speaker 2 (50:57):
Oh yeah, that's when they still had them.

Speaker 1 (50:59):
Yeah, on Sundays. Yeah before when we missed the first one,
and so we went to the second one, won that one,
then we came back for the third one. He told me,
I gotta stop last because I won it last one, Okay.
I wasn't even gonna run the heat race. Yeah, so

(51:19):
I so I'm gonna go out in the heat race
a couple of laps, see all the tie is, you know,
make sure the tie is gonna be okay for the feature,
because I had to run the run the juice to room.
What does that mean sticky? Yeah, yeah, that's yeah right,
And he started last, and the guy showed up with

(51:41):
an Accolade model with some a couple of trick things
done to it, and he was they had to beat me.
It was actually Larry.

Speaker 2 (51:48):
Rundo, Oh Lightning, Larry Lightning.

Speaker 1 (51:52):
Okay, so it's him a first yeah, and so I
look and he takes the lead in the heat and
I was in the back and I saw like, gotta
go see what he's got. Drove through the field, passed
it one heat is that last in the future. Gotcha
seven laps. I had to lead lap nine. We had
a restart. From lap nine to lap thirty eight, I

(52:14):
lapped the whole field. Holy shit, won the race, the
second guy ever in the history of Clamont to lap
the field.

Speaker 2 (52:23):
You lapped the whole fucking field, even Larry Yep. Wow,
that's some fucking good juices. But no, that was a
fucking stout car.

Speaker 1 (52:34):
Yeah. So then I sold the car to uh dn
o Atto Oh yeah, yep, sold to them. Davianded the
clamb out with Scotti the Vaal yep. Then they went
to Stars and all walk as Claimont went back to
Friday nights again through Friday nights.

Speaker 2 (52:50):
Mm hmm, well yeah that makes sense.

Speaker 1 (52:53):
And then in twenty sixteen they asked me to drive
the car, and I drove the car, won the championship
at Star neil Us seventeen and won that championship staving Hudson.
Oh wow, first repeat in the outlaw.

Speaker 2 (53:07):
Okay yeah, and okay, so okay, So now I'm remembering
this stuff and I'm a person that's that's neutral with everything.
But everybody, you know, people in the pets, they talk, you.

Speaker 1 (53:19):
Know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (53:20):
So for the longest time, and this was sixteen seventeen
that you were doing this, there's a lot of talk
that you were juicing your tires during that.

Speaker 1 (53:29):
Stuff, about four a week juice.

Speaker 2 (53:33):
Hey, I'm just I'm just the guy, you know what
I mean. I heard about it and I was like,
I was like, eat, ain't leaving lines out from the
trailer all.

Speaker 1 (53:39):
The way to the strip.

Speaker 2 (53:40):
So he doing that?

Speaker 1 (53:43):
We used to juice heat race, Yeah, yeah, would buy
four's free Scoffham, put the other ones on, go out
in the heat race, and put them back on for
the feature. Oh bucket. I mean when you had sponsors
that paid for everything, you can do whatever you want.

Speaker 2 (54:00):
Yeah, that's true. That's true. So I mean, like, so
we're from nineteen eighty four all the way up to
twenty sixteen, now seventeen. Sorry, So I mean you've been
doing it for.

Speaker 1 (54:12):
Plus in between the drove Dennis mckennedy's Big Block Super Yeah.
Oh okay, so yeah, what year was that ninety nine?

Speaker 2 (54:18):
Oh fucking a Okay, hold on, go back, go back. Okay,
So how is that that was good? I mean I've
talked to a couple three fifty super drivers and they're like,
you just point and hit.

Speaker 1 (54:28):
I'm like, oh, fucking he big blocks A little different. Actually,
the first time I ever drove it was that Thompson.
Your fucking ball. I mean, you're you're full of balls, dude.
That's a fucking long track for those cars. Oh yeah,
that was in ninety six. Uh. We were down there
for the World Series. Yeah, and Brian would qualified the

(54:49):
car on a Saturday. Well, the next day it downloaded rain.
I mean it rained so bad that ship was floating
by the camp. Yeah, like you stepped out. I think
you could have got a new one, went right down
to the pits, that's how bad it was raining. Yeah. Yeah,
So they canceled that day, so we had to go
back the following Saturday. Well, Brian had to go to

(55:12):
a wedding. He was in a wedding. So Dennis asked
me if I drive the car? Brian who Brian would Okay, okay, yep,
Brian the guy that qualified it. Then yeah, okay, Russell's
brother he was driving it for Dennis. Gotcha and so
I went up to Dennis's house. We had to move
the pedals because Brian's a short guy and I was

(55:33):
kind of tall. I'm fat now.

Speaker 2 (55:36):
Weft side Wait yeah, so.

Speaker 1 (55:39):
Uh moved the pedals, stretched the seat out a little
bit with a poor power, jumped in it went to
Thompson never drove a super from my life. Yeah, that
must have been fucking sketchy. I mean, Thompson's not a
small track. Yeah, I love it till the wind started
trying to take my helmet off. Put your helmet on,

(56:01):
have somebody stand on your shoulders, grabbed the bottom of
your helmet. Tr I pulled it off your head with
the scrap on. That's what it felt like. Jesus. Oh
yeah it was bad, but uh it didn't matter. Yeah. Yeah,
you were out there, young and dumb. Yeah, and we
ended up started. I started last because I didn't want
to stop with he qualified the cock because I didn't
want to be in the middle of anybody's ship because.

Speaker 2 (56:21):
Yeah, your first ever time running these fucking things.

Speaker 1 (56:23):
Yep. And I drove up to like I was like
ninth or tenth, and I got lapped by Randy Riscus,
Mike Adway, crips Purley. Then I just followed up and
before I knew it, I was like sixth Oh, that
ain't bad at all, because just even though I was

(56:44):
a lap down, was still lapping Cass. It was wrong.

Speaker 2 (56:47):
Yeah, they were quick.

Speaker 1 (56:48):
And then I was battling with actually russ Wood no
ship for a while. I looked over coming through the turn.
I looked over and he's down the bottom trying to
get by me, and I was like, well, school sitting
under caution. He's pointing at me. He's pointing up with
the wing. Well he's pointing up. I thought he was
giving me thumb up. So I give thumbs up. The
wing was breaking.

Speaker 2 (57:09):
Oh damn. Oh wow.

Speaker 1 (57:11):
Yeah, so you guys were moving out there. Yeah, so
I didn't know the wing was breaking. Well, yeah, you
gave him the thumbs up. The way could have fell off.
I was still going. We had a restart and down
the backstretch was a whole bunch of There was no
fence on the back stretch then, and there was a
whole bunch of leaves. And when the front guys went,
the leaves just came up a big swirl sucked it

(57:32):
right into the girl. Oh right in the opening of
the front of God, that's what a radiot it was.

Speaker 2 (57:37):
Oh it got hot.

Speaker 1 (57:39):
Yeah. I kept watching the temperature. It was okay. While
I was going and the caution come out and nothing
just buryeding. I had to pull in and Dennis. Dennis
says to me, I'd never been so happy to see
a car overheat my life. This is why he said
you were scared. I wasn't scared. Yeah, I was having
fun there for a job. Yeah, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (58:01):
So did you do that a couple more times?

Speaker 1 (58:03):
Didn't never sat in a super until again until ninety
nine when I drove for him. Oh so that was
it just that one race or did you do a
couple Nope, it was just that one. Wanted done for that.
They wanted you to live. I tried to get I
tried to drive. I wanted to drive because in ninety
six I was driving for homes and having a good year.
I want I wanted to drive the the seventy seven Timotiska. Yeah, okay, yeah,

(58:28):
I wanted to try it anyway, And they had two cars,
and Leon and him were good friends, and Leon kept
talking to him and he just he wouldn't do it,
and I tried driving one of Donegan's cars. That wouldn't happen,
That wasn't happening, and then I just ended up driving
for him in ninety nine, I mean because Brian went

(58:50):
to drive for Duncan.

Speaker 2 (58:51):
Oh okay, gotcha, gotcha? So that one and done stuff. So,
like I said, you've been doing it for ship. Let
me do the math real quick, eighty four to twenty
seventeen for about sixteen yeah, right, sixteen Well, no, six

(59:12):
eighty four to twenty sixteen years. So now you add
seventeen to that. You've been doing it for a while. Yeah,
about thirty five years. Yeah, yeah, thirty four years. So
with all that, with all that time, what is the
biggest thing that you've you've learned throughout the New England area.

Speaker 1 (59:34):
I mean you were you were literally like either you
were doing your.

Speaker 2 (59:36):
Own thing or you were hot shoe for someone else.
Were you like shopped around or did you shop around
yourself for the for the rides, Yeah, for the rides
once in a while or no, just everybody just came
to you. So you must have had a good reputation.
I mean the past guy.

Speaker 1 (59:53):
Yeah, I mean I used to go to Hudson on
Sundays when I race that stuff, and I always had
my face with helmet movie.

Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
Oh yeah, have helmet.

Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
Well yeah, and I'd always end up driving something.

Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
Oh gotcha?

Speaker 1 (01:00:06):
And uh one guy says said to his father one day,
Jesus freaking George will drive anything, gets it, gets in anything,
so laps.

Speaker 2 (01:00:16):
Oh yeah, that's true. That is seat time, sat lapse.
So let's go. So not only did you run from
did you run a street stock all the way up
to a three fifty super, but you also had a
what was it like a practice or a race and
a midget?

Speaker 1 (01:00:32):
Yeah? I drove Uh I tried that out? That was that?
Was that ninety eight? Yeah? It wasn't good. I have
been practice with it on a Wednesday. They said, oh,
you're turning good lap times. You know that's good because
I ain't comfortable in this thing at all. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:00:50):
So what was it like a Nima midget where it's
like your school bus driving it?

Speaker 1 (01:00:54):
Your fucking pedals are on the floor and you got
to oh Jesus, yeah, that must have been different. Wait,
especially when the cow is milk for somebody that's like
five full and I'm six feet yeah, yeah, whatever, five
eleven and a half whatever I.

Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
Am, Yeah, yeah, tight fat Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:01:13):
So we drove that and I wasn't so I wasn't
too keen on it. But it was a friend of
my father's, so he asked me to drive it. So
I drove it. Yeah, and then when it overheated, I
was so happy. It just was it just was weird
or yeah, just I don't know, yeah, just hot fee
already and the things wheel into it. No, like no wheel,

(01:01:38):
like you don't even want to touch the wheel because
you'll spin out.

Speaker 2 (01:01:40):
Oh okay, I gotcha, sho.

Speaker 1 (01:01:42):
You know, It's just it wasn't anything I was used to.

Speaker 2 (01:01:44):
Gotcha, gotcha.

Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
Just that was it. I got called to drive it
again and I was like, oh no, I'm too busy.

Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
Well, I mean yeah, I was asking you. I was like, what,
what is like the weirdest thing that you're driving? You're
like a midget. I was like, yeah, that's pretty different
from what you're used too.

Speaker 1 (01:02:00):
Yeah. Yeah, I drove Michael Turcotte's small block quite a
few times. Yeah, I got him his first one. That's
that was a pretty good night. We didn't go back
to next week because they said the table going to
that's when they could claim your motive. Oh so the
rumor was out there, we're going to claim I claim
the motive. So I told Michaels, I think we'll take

(01:02:21):
a couple weeks off. Well it was this, they were
going to take your motor out of what out of
the super Oh geeze, they were going to claim it.
It was like half mine and half Michaels and some
other borrow poss from somebody else. Can't let them take
the moto? Yeah, part of it A yeah? Uh so.

Speaker 2 (01:02:49):
I mean, like I said, I mean you've been doing
it for a while. I mean we're in twenty twenty
two now, but we're up to seventeen in your career.
Uh like spam and that we're doing right now what
you do in eighteen eighteen? Uh hung out?

Speaker 1 (01:03:06):
So when you took a step back a couple of
races for dn L and ran off for I drove
his car a couple of times.

Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
Oh there you go.

Speaker 1 (01:03:18):
Yeah, And that was really about it. And then nineteen
what did I do? We ran some of the late
mall sportsman races, gotcha, and we built that steel body
sportsman that just never took off? Was that the one
that you ran at loud, loud, and yeah that thing
was nasty. Was okay, it was cool. You're driving a

(01:03:38):
brick down I get that. But that thing sounded ridiculous
coming into the corner. You were the loudest car out there.
I was like, holy fuck, that thing's moving. That was fun.
It was fun.

Speaker 2 (01:03:49):
What was the fucking rpm gauge? Sitting at.

Speaker 1 (01:03:53):
The thing sounded fucking mean?

Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
I was like, but it was a beautiful car.

Speaker 1 (01:03:56):
I mean we still got it. Yeah, yeah, sitting there,
you know, And I tried to talk to some people
about getting something started at Hodson with a division, but like,
nobody seems to be interested.

Speaker 2 (01:04:06):
So like that antique stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:04:08):
We wanted to do, like a vintage late model, but
your race, any race for money, I got you right
around and like the near people and all that stuffy
parade laps.

Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
Yeah yeah yeah, I get no parade, Yeah, just bring
something back into it.

Speaker 1 (01:04:23):
So yeah, nineteen we ran a late model. We ran
out of we ran out of leave, we ran into
Clamont and just like no car showed up. So it
was like tired of this. Waste my time, yeah yeah
yeah yeah, and waste the money too, you know. Yeah,
well yeah, they weren't giving us anything. They were supposed
to give us something, and then they ended up sending
us a check for I don't even know what it was,
but dairy queen coupon. But yeah, pretty much much couldn't

(01:04:49):
even afford to go to Apple Bee.

Speaker 2 (01:04:56):
Yeah, Keith was wondering why and what kind of juice
you were you using? Apple the orange juice? Orange orange juice.
So I mean, this past couple of years, what have
you been up to, man? Just just building cars cars?
So so let's go into that. Not only did you

(01:05:18):
when did that really start the building car?

Speaker 1 (01:05:20):
The building for people because you helped out a lot
of people over their careers. Oh yeah, put a lot
of people in victory Lane championships. Basically when I started
in eighty four. Yeah, my cousin Dave, he wanted to
stop racing, so I had to put a cage in
a car for him. So that was when you were thirteen,
fifteen fifteen, Okay, gotcha, we're both fifteen, gotcha? And so

(01:05:44):
I put a cage in that Maverick farm and he
ran that and then we kind of both progressed a
little bit over the years. And then we'll say I
built a car. We did a cage with a couple
other guys. I don't remember the names, you know, just
rookie cars and nothing major. Mostly all day mostly I
did my stuff and they did Dave stuff. Then what

(01:06:11):
was it eighty eighty nine. I built a nova for
like an endurable okay, yeah, and just torched the springs
and put a rollbot in it. So then, uh, Austin's

(01:06:31):
dad was hanging out. He was hanging out. We were
hanging out together for hang out together for years. Yeah.
And then Asaiah, you run it in the They had
a strictly stock class. It's supposed to be strictly stock.
So he ran it, won his first race in it,
and uh, it was just a just a rat you know.

(01:06:51):
So I ended up selling the you know, at the
end of the season. We ended up I sold the
mote to a friend of mine for a blazer that
he ran in the woods.

Speaker 2 (01:06:59):
You know.

Speaker 1 (01:07:00):
It was just a three fifties and put a small
can in it and yeah, yeah, yeah, that's all we
did to it. He said it was the greatest thing
that he ever had in his blazer to freaking them
over the head like one hundred thousand miles whatever. Thing moved. Yeah.
Then I built we built you know, I built my Malibu, Yeah,
to run as a street stock. Then we built him

(01:07:20):
a strictly stock, which back then strictly stocks were like
you put a roll cage and that was it. The
only door you could get out was a drafted door. Gotcha, Okay,
fut of doors.

Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
So this was when they were like on dot tires.

Speaker 1 (01:07:32):
No, they were actually on on McCreary's the street stocks,
but that was like the only thing that you you know,
you weren't supposed to have raist springs, which I mean
you can get around that easy enough, and just it's
called painting painted inner and cut an end off with
a torch a little bit and yeah, I cut it
out of the truck. Yeah. So ingenuity, Yeah, yeah, I

(01:07:54):
mean you have to. He won like, uh well, the
first first two weeks he finished second. They used to
run features. I think he find a second in the
heat second in both features. Did the same thing the
second week. So we need a little bit more because
my cousin Paul was running the UH cougar like a
sixty nine cougar. Yeah, he had like a three windesday.

(01:08:15):
He was like he was fast. So it came home,
I put a small canon in the motor. Then we
went up and then we won like six in six
weeks in a row. There you go.

Speaker 2 (01:08:25):
So you were just like doing this stuff on the
side for people, Yeah, like once you found time.

Speaker 1 (01:08:31):
Yeah, well I worked for my father during the day
doing mechanic work, and then at night work on other
people's race cars. Make a little bit of money to
work on my own stuff. Yeah, buy my own stuff,
and then snowplow and then junking, you know side, get
some get some money in your pocket. Yeah. Me and
my own man did junking for years and yeah, you know,
half of whatever, half of whatever he made, I got gotcha.

(01:08:56):
So yeah, it worked out. And so then the building
cars for everybody basically started because there was a there
was a time that they didn't even like your cars. Yeah, yeah, no,
I know. So then and I'm trying to think what,

(01:09:17):
Yeah I did it, well, I know ninety four. I
built quite a few, strictly. Yeah, I built one for
my cousin Dave. He went only one like ten races
that year. I built Joey Kuchu one. I built a
couple others. I don't even remember really usually I remember everything,

(01:09:38):
but I can't remember ship.

Speaker 2 (01:09:40):
Oh no, you're good man. I mean whatever you can remember,
because I just known that for years. You build people's
cars for them.

Speaker 1 (01:09:47):
Then I did a lot of a lot of work.
Had a lot of help from other people too, you know. Yeah,
not only did my dad. You know, my dad helped
me out with you know, no money, but had the shop.

Speaker 2 (01:09:58):
Yeah you want, don't burn it down.

Speaker 1 (01:10:01):
Yeah, don't burn it down. Don't burn it down, don't
burn out. You know, we used to have a wood store.
Don't burn all my wood. He fill. He'd fill up
the bins one night and the next morning he come
out and to be like a quarter left, and oh
what was Eddie here? Yeah, Eddie was over in front
of mine head all night long. Fellow is a fill

(01:10:24):
of wood store. So ninety five I built a few,
most strictly ninety six. Uh built one for Joe Daney. Yeah,
end up won the championship and started at you built
his brother Chuck a car, Chuck Danny yep, Okay. Then
I built Chuck a couple more cars, and he ran

(01:10:47):
him things for forever. And then Joe ran his car forever.
He ran it as an Ola too. Yeah, strictly stuck
Joe Danny Okay, Yeah. Then Rob McCrae, I did some
work for him. I just built him a new car
last year, Shane Jenner and I built him a new car. Yeah,

(01:11:10):
so you're like still doing it today. I mean a
lot of people go to you. Yeah, so who who
like obviously don't.

Speaker 2 (01:11:18):
I'm not telling you to give out your secrets and
stuff like that. I'm asking where did you learn all
the tricks and all the stuff that you do from
your old man?

Speaker 1 (01:11:27):
Did it? Or was a lot of trial and error,
A lot from him, A lot from trial and error,
a lot from asking questions. Yeah, you know, I'd ask
like Mike Whedon he got a chassis shop, okay at
the time, you know, I'd even just go to the
bipods and just look around, look at something and kind

(01:11:48):
of figure it out. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, that's a good idea,
you know, and talked to just different guys and you know,
and just basically that was it, you know. I mean
I had my my cousin, my cousin, he actually was
here being quiet left that's okay, Kenny, Kenny Stewart, Okay,
he started building cows with my dad when he was

(01:12:08):
like thirteen. Oh, he should have pulled up a bit. Yeah.
And then they raced for years and they just sold everything.
Yeah yeah, yeah, But I mean I go down and
ask him questions because you know, I was too stubborn
to ask my father all the time because you know,
what's he know? But he learned a lot. What what's
he know?

Speaker 2 (01:12:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:12:29):
He he doesn't know anything. He doesn't notice modern stuff. Okay,
you knew it pretty well. Yeah. I learned a lot
of stuff off an error not listening. So yeah, exactly,
I'm the same way with my old man. That's how
every kid is with their father. They listen to them
listening to somebody else. Yeah. Yeah, you know. I had

(01:12:52):
another good friend of another good friend of my dad's
that used to help me out a lot was Jimmy Haley. Yeah,
he helped me out a lot. He was, uh, he
was a good guy. Yell at me all the time, though, Yeah,
yell at me when I didn't win, just like, oh,
my dad, if I didn't if I went to Hudson
and race, then I come home and I didn't win. Why, Yeah,
you should win every race. Yeah, I'm like, yeah, I

(01:13:14):
understand that. But didn't. Then I tell them, well, why
don't you come next time and help me out? I
ain't going there.

Speaker 2 (01:13:25):
So they were just building you up to like like
it's no secret that your your chassis are some of
the best that are out in and out here, you
know what I mean. You could go to a chassis
builder and get it done, and you could go to
see George Baldwin and have more stuff done. I mean,
Matt Robinson's used you, like you said, like Rob McCrae,

(01:13:47):
like a lot of people, Austin Erickson, Justin Beecher, the
goes yeah, yeah, I know, I know you, Like, I
ain't got enough time to list all these people off, but.

Speaker 1 (01:13:57):
Man, I mean you know I did, uh Bryce how
it runs the fifty one? Yea, his metric car had
good success. I built him a brand new Camaro last
year and we were just just getting it going going,
just figuring it out, you know with him, Yeah, yeah,
driving it because he never drove a leaf car or anything,
you know, and had it just about there and they

(01:14:17):
just you know, they stopped racing for a little bit,
and uh there was like people who call me phone
calls just give him a set up over the phone.
Next thing, you know, they're run on top five, top three. Okay,
they're winning, you know. Uh so they were.

Speaker 2 (01:14:38):
They were like you when you're trying to learn the
stuff and now you know all the knowledge and then
you're like, I'll try this and try that and see
what it does.

Speaker 1 (01:14:44):
I just tell him this is where I started. Yeah,
just start with this. You know, like when little Jimmy
was running mini stocks. Oh yeah, his dad called me up.
Wanted to build a wanted to build am a Camaro.
That's all right, we'll build one. We found it, found
an old chass. Yeah, we reworked it because we didn't know.
I think it was gonna wreck it in two races,

(01:15:06):
that's true. Yeah, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:15:07):
Yeah, you don't want to give him a good piece,
and you want to get scraped up off that it
was a good piece.

Speaker 1 (01:15:12):
But I mean, you're not gonna give m a brand
new destroyed you know, have the record fucking scraping off
the fucking ground.

Speaker 2 (01:15:19):
Yeah, I know, I get it.

Speaker 1 (01:15:20):
And he went out and he was fast right off
the bat at it, so like okay, yeah, and kept
working on it and then you know they good just
Nestra stuff with the ride heights and all that ships
we had to we just the whole car and yeah,
changed that, change that, and we got him fast and
he won the championship with Hudson and then he's won
everywhere everywhere else with the same stuff, with the same car,

(01:15:41):
with the same set up. So is that the same
he's running right now? Or is that the six cars
a brand new cay built last year?

Speaker 2 (01:15:49):
So yeah, so you're building cars for like, uh, what's
that guy's name?

Speaker 1 (01:15:55):
Was it Lemieux?

Speaker 2 (01:15:55):
Or is that his own in house car?

Speaker 1 (01:15:57):
No? I built that ca okay, so yeah, I built
that car. A little Jimmy hung the body. I did
the whole chassis. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, set the car
all up, all that stuff. Same thing with Chuck Dany's car.
That was you paid for that.

Speaker 2 (01:16:15):
Quick And was that a Camaro? That was a metric
So you did them all.

Speaker 1 (01:16:20):
I can make a metric go. I can make them
all go.

Speaker 2 (01:16:24):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:16:26):
Well yeah, it's got four wheels, point them all in
the same direction. You're gonna go somewhere. Yeah, don't ask
me to set up a front drive.

Speaker 2 (01:16:32):
Oh I know, I ain't even gonna bother. It's like
trying to get my dad to do it. He's like,
I don't fucking know. Yeah no, if I get a
real real wheel drive, i'll.

Speaker 1 (01:16:46):
Come see you.

Speaker 2 (01:16:46):
But other than that, I mean, but like you've built
a lot of cars over the years.

Speaker 1 (01:16:51):
You know what I mean? Yeah, I built quite a few.
Could you put it like a tag or anything on it.
I've been print or something. I've been doing it recently.
I've been well in my initials in the date, Oh
there you go, in the year, Oh there you go.
That's what I've been doing recently because it's just good.
I didn't think I was gonna build this many cows,
you know.

Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
Yeah, but you're getting popular and the more that you,
I mean, you put out good fucking pieces. Obviously, the
drivers in the in the the teams put in their
own setup.

Speaker 1 (01:17:20):
But instead of just go off of what you tell
the same setup that little Jimmy's got gotcha and they
and they look at me and go, yeah right, I'm like,
I'm telling you that's what he's got. You don't think
that's what he's got. Whatever, I'm gonna have the cop
brought here. We'll take it all pot you know, if
you want the four springs out of his car and
put him in yours. We'll put.

Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
Yeah, but at the end of the day, it's still
the driver too. I mean, Jimmy, Little Jimmy, he's a
he's a stout driver, you know what I mean. He's
down at just right now, he's down at Florence right now,
racing and the Icebreaker down there with the Cliff Gumm
and scar or whatever it is. So he's down there
doing that, but.

Speaker 1 (01:18:00):
Likely left the water bottles at home. I was you
heard that too? Well, I got a car on the
on the jig right now that he's going to be driving.

Speaker 2 (01:18:15):
Yeah, yeah, So I didn't want to spill those beings
like you don't.

Speaker 1 (01:18:20):
He's driving, that's all we got. Yeah yeah, yeah, it's
to know who owns it. Yeah yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:18:25):
Well yeah, but like I said, like at least you're
putting your your name and and your number tag because
years from now when you people are gonna still remember you.

Speaker 1 (01:18:36):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:18:37):
I'm twenty six and I watched you all my life,
you know what I mean, when my dad was racing,
or if I would go there with my friend Avery,
when we scooped up enough money to go and watch Hudson.
We were watching you you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (01:18:49):
So well, I was going to build a car for
a friend of mine's friend eat in California. He come down.
Uh they do well movie stuff and everything, and they
were here. They were doing movie stuff. They do all
like stunt stunt on the movies and everything. Drive the
biscuit rigs and all that.

Speaker 2 (01:19:06):
Oh okay, gotcha.

Speaker 1 (01:19:07):
Friend of mine, Gary and his buddy Adam. Uh you
come in, saw one of the cameras I had, and
he wanted the metric car. But then he all said,
he got a cow up there. He's gonna have a
ship to here, you know, all script and everything. Have
me build a car for out there. And then COVID
hit like a race car. Oh okay, not like a
stunt cars at. I was gonna build a race car

(01:19:32):
for him to go back to California.

Speaker 2 (01:19:34):
With no ship.

Speaker 1 (01:19:34):
Yeah, COVID hit. So yeah, yeah, that kind of put
a squash and everything. So squash or is there still
talk or a little bit of talk?

Speaker 2 (01:19:42):
Yeah, but when you get around, I mean, the COVID
ship is effect of a lot of things, especially out there,
especially on Cali.

Speaker 1 (01:19:49):
Yeah, exactly. And then I built a cotto went down Florida.
I built it for my cousin Dave. He moved down
to Florida, raced down there. Back up here. Yeah, actually yeah,
Matt McMahon has the cat now. Oh okay, that car
has been like halfway across the world.

Speaker 2 (01:20:08):
Yeah, no, no, for sure. Was that the same one
that he's been running.

Speaker 1 (01:20:13):
The one the car Fanning drives every now and then.
Oh okay, yeah, okay, not the thirty one, not the
one Jerry le Page drives. No, No, I worked on
that one too. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
Yeah, So is that the that was the old ten car?

Speaker 1 (01:20:29):
No, that destroyed? Oh yeah, when that guy put it
over the tires in the back stretch. That's true. Yeah,
I totally forgot about that. We brought it, sorry, Matt,
brought it to the bad time, brought it, brought it
in and put it on the We put it on
the jig to see if we could fix it. And
I think there was like maybe one point that hit
the jig. Oh damn, yeah, fixing it. So yeah, the

(01:20:52):
one that I think, Yeah, the one that, like you said,
Fanning runs, Yeah, is that the same one that he
ran Waterford? No? This okay? So most just runs Oh okay,
something like that for you. I mean I drove. I
drove once at Hotson. I think I got like a
third or something like that. It just because everybody was

(01:21:13):
sleeping on a restat.

Speaker 2 (01:21:14):
Oh gotcha.

Speaker 1 (01:21:16):
Nobody knew how to do a single fire restat. I
guess when the leader goes, you go, flag man's waving
the flag go, Yeah, open track at that point. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:21:28):
Have you traveled anywhere far to race? I mean no
home body?

Speaker 1 (01:21:34):
Yeah? Hung out around here? Yeah, White Mountain, I mean
the furthest north furthest north we went was White Mountain? Yeah?
How was that? That was? Back? And then get screwed
out of that one.

Speaker 2 (01:21:49):
You're a fan favorite everywhere you go.

Speaker 1 (01:21:51):
Uh yeah, what'd you get? What?

Speaker 2 (01:21:53):
You just get screwed out of?

Speaker 1 (01:21:54):
Leading? Yeah. I had a restart with like nineteen or
twenty to go. Yeah, yeah, actually nineteen ago I think
it was, and we took off from the guy that
was on the outside. Wanted to get him behind me,
so he hooked me in the right rear, almost put
me in a wall. I saved it. He wrecked like
three other cays. They put me to the back and
said I tried to drive him into the wall. So
I had to go to the rear. So did you

(01:22:15):
try to drive him into the wall. No? Do that? Yeah,
So I says to the flag man, I said, well,
all right, this is only five cars on the lead lap,
so I get to restart fifth. Right. He says, go
to the rear and go on your trailer. This is
the thing, right. Oh yeah, if you're on the lead lap. Yeah,
He's like, well do it to go on the trailer alight,
So see down here in a little bit, so you

(01:22:36):
won't make it back up here. Made it back to second.

Speaker 2 (01:22:41):
That's not bad. No, Well, that conversation like, well.

Speaker 1 (01:22:44):
When he went to hand me the trophy, I I
felt like I was going to hold it and I
dropped it and he says, oh, you broke your trophy
as you like, I didn't break it over your head.
What year was this? Three? I think, oh, okay, so
it was recently and stuff like that. I went there
before that and had some decent ones but nothing major.

Speaker 2 (01:23:04):
Who did you when did you race against David Green?
Slip m Yeah, he said that we're going into the
question too. Well, the comments and stuff like that. Bobby
said the bud Lights was the best division ever, which
you second?

Speaker 1 (01:23:21):
And then David Green slut was like, had a few
good battles with George is that recently or when he
first started when Clamont had their open shows? A gotcha
after the outlaw, we had a strictly We went up
there and we ran out up there. Then we went them,
then we went to Knock. We ran up with the thunderstocks,
so whatever the hell they were, yeah, the thunderstocks, and

(01:23:42):
we went up the radial tires and we won the
for one we won got my actually got my hundredths
win at Manet Knock, and then we.

Speaker 2 (01:23:51):
Holy ship, you keep track when you got a whiteboard somewhere, No,
just remember how many are you at now?

Speaker 1 (01:23:58):
One? One? Yeah, okay, I've been slowing down.

Speaker 2 (01:24:02):
Well no, I'm not saying that. I was just like,
holy shit, that was his hundredth win. I wonder how
many when he's got going.

Speaker 1 (01:24:08):
We went back to run another race and they caught
me with my intake and they caught me with too
much left side, told me so I had to fix everything. Yeah,
And then we went back and I led the race
for a while and then a Lapcot. I had to
lift on a backstretch for Lapcot and David stuck his
nose up underneath me, and we raced to the to
the line, and I know I beat him by six

(01:24:30):
inches and they said I lost by six inches and
gave them wind n him. Oh boy, yeah he had
he had more shirts in the grandstands. Is what it is,
I know at this point.

Speaker 2 (01:24:43):
Yeah, it is what it is. But that's funny.

Speaker 1 (01:24:47):
We saw that. We saw the video on the way out,
stopped and looked at it. I can't fight city.

Speaker 2 (01:24:53):
How what year was this?

Speaker 1 (01:24:55):
I think we went over it, but or I messed it. Okay,
I know fourteen? Oh, okay, so it was recently. Gotcha fourteen? Yeah,
I was fourteen because thirteen we were in the out
law sold it. Then we bought a bought it strictly
because we're gonna goround to Thompson again and run and
uh I was running second down there one night and

(01:25:17):
get driven right through right from the whole pack. Hit
hit on them, and get hit the wheel, broke the axle,
and they didn't do anything to the guy to help me.
So where was this Thompson? Oh, Jesus said, they're gonna
let him race like this. I might as well just
go back to my home tracks.

Speaker 2 (01:25:34):
Yeah, so, but you were you were doing that so
like you were racing back in those times that I
asked another driver this, But was there like a stigma
between the tracks back in the day, from like Twin
State to Hudson was known as like the outlaw track

(01:25:57):
or the the no bull ship track, and then you
go to Lee where everything's like etiquette and yeah, that's
that's just.

Speaker 1 (01:26:05):
How they were. No nobody, I mean everybody. A lot
of people bad mouth Hudson. Are you're from Hudson? Are
you from? You race like an asshole because you're from Hudson. No,
I race I race how I am because I race
how I raced, I race how I how I was
taught to race them. Yeah. Yeah, I used to run
a rookie stock forty cars and have ten laps to

(01:26:28):
get to the front.

Speaker 2 (01:26:28):
Yeah yeah, yeah, time to go. Yeah, it's time to go.

Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
And you know, Hudson was Hudson. I mean yeah, if
you get no conflict, it wasn't. You didn't come home
and type on the computer. You walked over and your
punched him in the face. Yeah yeah, yeah, we went
yell at him or you know, you got punched in
the head or you know, been in a couple of those,
haven't ye, Like the time I rolled my tweety over.

Speaker 2 (01:26:56):
How that fucking go about?

Speaker 1 (01:26:58):
He was blocking me and we ended up getting hooked
together and he flipped over and turned three and I
spun around and sitting up top of the truck. I
jumped out of the car and she was okay, because
you know, I was had a pretty good relationship with her. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
he was a good guy. He just you know, a
lot of people didn't like him, but he was actually
all right. Yeah yeah, yeah. Don't trust him with anything,
but he was okay. So I got out to see

(01:27:21):
if he's okay, and he gets out of the car
and he's like, there's three things I don't like about you.
None of them are good. And I went, oh, that's
obviously three things you don't like it. None of them
are good. And I looked at him, I said, you
are right. Yeah, that was like it lasty fucking uh.

(01:27:41):
Then the next week we were at Star and he
was restarting right behind me. I'm like, oh, this ain't
gonna be good. Never touched me. Never, never touched me again.
This is what it is.

Speaker 2 (01:27:53):
I mean, people race, there's people that you hit me
and we hit you back.

Speaker 1 (01:27:56):
And yeah, well I found out it later on as
a mutual friend of said was more mad at himself
than he wasn't you Oh that so why is that?
Because he was blocking you and he got he deserved.
Ah then to stopped fucking with that Baldwin man. Yeah,
Peter van Doka found out the same way. Oh yeah,

(01:28:18):
messled me it sto dumped me a couple of times
and gave it back. I decided to go to Hudson
one Sunday and that was my mission. Yeah yeah, I
mean I for an eye. I mean that's why the
follow a week Peter come up to me and it says,
all you think you're funny, I said, Peter, I don't
think I'm funny. I said, But my father didn't put

(01:28:39):
up with your ship. My brother didn't put up your ship.
I ain't gonna put up with your ship. Race me. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
just race me. Never had a problem again. That's how
it goes. Some other stuff fucking just evens itself out there.
You know what I mean. That's crazy. I mean Peter's
been doing it for a while. Holy ship. Yeah, he
raised against your old man. Wow, early seventies. He actually

(01:29:03):
drove my one of my father's cars. Oh shit, he
always wanted he wanted to drive. Uh you know if
you remember to the replica that I built on my
father's the Nova.

Speaker 2 (01:29:12):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:29:13):
We love that original car. Peter always wanted to drive
it because it was fast. So my father hurt his back,
so he called Peter up. Well, he saw Peter at
the racetrack and he says, you want to drive the
copy to come down the house. Make sure you fit
fit in yet? Yep. So he went down and they
moved a couple I don't thin even think that. I
think they put the locks on the pedals, went up

(01:29:35):
the track and Peter was running the car and he
come in one come in off of practice. The front
breaks of smoke, and my father's like, what are you doing?
And he spun out a couple of times. He says, oh,
the car is just not right. Chopped, the car's not right.
My father got in it went out ransom laps and
come in and says Peter, there's nothing wrong with this
race guy. He says he just never drive it again. No,

(01:29:57):
was it just one of those things. Yep, just not
is what it is at that point. It was just
the way Peter drove, that's all, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:30:04):
Yeah, yeah, well, yeah, every every racer is different, that's
for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:30:08):
Yeah. I can set a car up for me, and
there's some people go out and they run pretty good
with him, you know, but some guys just don't get it.

Speaker 2 (01:30:15):
Just don't yeah, just don't hit the mark. I mean
we got we got forty people watching. If you guys
got any questions for Georgie, I mean ask, I mean yeah,
I mean, we'll go into it.

Speaker 1 (01:30:26):
And even though I need a pee break, I mean,
I mean take a pee break if you want. Yeah,
I got a peek.

Speaker 2 (01:30:33):
I can list off a couple of sponsors to help
us do this stuff. As you guys can see, we're
here live at Georgia's shop. Long time competitor of the
short tracks around New England came and saw him today.
Guy that's been on my list for a while. Hell
of a guy. I mean, the show's not ending. Don't
don't go nowhere. But any questions for George.

Speaker 1 (01:30:57):
Let me know.

Speaker 2 (01:30:58):
I'll ask him when he comes back. But this can't
be possible without some of the sponsors that I can
list off right now, of the Rough Offenders podcast. I
will list off a couple until he gets back. But
Kenny's Auto and Truck Repair twenty four to seven light
and heavy repair and cost Hydrali clos is made on
site from your daily driver to a semi j. Kenny

(01:31:18):
is your guy. Give him a call at nine seven
eight eight three one seven one three. A good friend
of his and came on as well as a sponsors
an a auto care Nick Saba with great work and
prices that are fair. Give an a autocare call it
seven eight one nine three three eight zero uh seven zero.

(01:31:41):
I definitely appreciate you guys sponsoring as you come back.
I mean, I guess, I guess what is some questions
that can ask you. Did you ever run against Pat Floyd?

Speaker 1 (01:31:55):
Yep? How was that?

Speaker 2 (01:31:57):
I mean he was a competitor in the day.

Speaker 1 (01:32:00):
We got some We spun each other all the couple. Yeah,
it was more. Yeah, it was more I spin you all,
you spin me out. It was a lot and then
nothing said afterwards. It was fun, you know, it was
actually a lot of fun racing with Pat. Yeah. Yeah,
back in them dumb days, you know, and we ran
at uh Grove. I was driving a friend of mine,
Skot timmy kid. Okay, yeah, it was metric rat. I

(01:32:24):
mean it was rat, meaning like like it was a
rat compared to what everybody else was racing. It was
a strictly stock you know, gotcha? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, I
had a good motor in it. You know. I mean
we won. Uh, I want a couple in a row
with Hudson. And then we got asked to leave. Uh
well I got asked to leave. Why is that? Bob

(01:32:46):
told me I was taking candy from the babies.

Speaker 2 (01:32:48):
Uh, gotcha.

Speaker 1 (01:32:50):
I was racing against Oh gotcha, Pete, Eric, Rob Wilcox, Square,
pet Floyd, Mitch Windell, all those guys in street stocks.
He told me to ask me to leave. I was
taking candy from the babies. I don't get that. Yeah,
I don't get it either. You know, I'm racing against guys,

(01:33:12):
the guys I race with, I mean, in pro stocks,
I'm raising with and you're telling me I got out
of it. Yeah. Yeah, Well you found out I was
getting paid half or whatever we made. So I don't
think you'd like to pay me.

Speaker 2 (01:33:22):
Oh, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:33:24):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:33:25):
It was just it was just weird to hear because
I mean, which Wendell and yeah, fucking Rob Wilcot. I
mean those are big names that.

Speaker 1 (01:33:31):
Yeah, some of the stuff that Bob used to do
with me was like mind boggling, you know. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
you know, just it was the top division on Hudson Speedler.
Yeah yeah, street stocks. You know. I was like, Bob,
if you had bud lights, you'd be running a bud light.
But you don't have them anymore.

Speaker 2 (01:33:44):
So Ricky Gilbert asked, uh, who did you hate to
run against?

Speaker 1 (01:33:49):
And why? Who did I hate to run against?

Speaker 2 (01:33:51):
Who did you hate? Who do you always have.

Speaker 1 (01:33:53):
A run in with that? You just got sick of
it sometimes, I mean doing it for almost forty years now,
yeah two more years. I don't mean to fucking date yep,
but yeah, thanks.

Speaker 2 (01:34:09):
I mean who was your biggest rival? I guess we'll say,
or who is the guy that you that always challenged
you every time he came around.

Speaker 1 (01:34:17):
There's a lot of them that challenged me. Yeah, but
one of like that I would hate to see you
roll out on a racetrack. Yeah, there you go. I
don't really have any to be honest. Yeah, you just
kept the blank mind. Yeah, you know, there was some
guys that you know, it's like, oh Jesus, but you

(01:34:40):
know you needed those guys.

Speaker 2 (01:34:41):
Oh yeah, yeah, I mean car in the pits, the
car in the pits. Yeah yeah, no, I get it.
I was just seeing if you had like a big
rivalry with anybody or no.

Speaker 1 (01:34:51):
Uh, you know, I had on track rivalries with certain drivers,
but it was like it was racing stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:34:57):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:34:58):
It wasn't really a rivalry. It was just hot racing.
Yeah yeah, yeah. Guy, Like you know, one guy at
that I don't know, for some reason he always seemed
to run into me was Paul Matthews every time was
on the side. At one point he driving the corner
over his head and run into my door, touch me
in the left forreer, run me off the back stretch.

(01:35:19):
And I used to say, but can't you see, Oh
you think you're so great dude, enough racetrack for both
of us. Yeah. Yeah, I'm not squeezing you. I'm not
doing anything wrong. It's just every time I race against you,
you run into me.

Speaker 2 (01:35:34):
So here's a great question. And but I totally understand that,
uh that I was going to ask myself. But Matthew
card guy watching the podcast. He asked you, how did
you get the L L number? Uh, I guess we'll

(01:35:55):
ask you, well, ask how did your dad? Yeah, because
that's your father's number.

Speaker 1 (01:36:01):
Yeap, my dad used to run. His first number was
thirteen B. Okay for thirteen balls. It was thirteen of
them in his family. Holy cold witness, that's what my
grandfather is, cold withness. He ran a thirteen B. Then
he went to the one twenty seven, and he ran

(01:36:23):
one twenty seven for a few years. Then he ran
to sixteen because it was his birthdate and his anniversary date.
Oh no, ship okay, but if they went to another track,
they'd either have to make it a seventy six and
eighteen an x oh yeah, because back in that day
there was a lot of fucking people showing up. Yeah.

(01:36:45):
So they were all drinking one night in a bar
and one of the guys says, found the number. We're
going to run the rest of the year. We're gonna
run from now on there, Like, yeah, what's that right here?
Double L, which is Valentine Hill light Lager asked the
man for the double L, which I have a clock right, yeah? Yeah, yeah,

(01:37:08):
So that's where it came from. That's from from a beer,
from from the barroom and a be a camp to
a bottle or whatever. That's where it came. Is that
like what he liked to drink or he just that
was one of them like to drink. I don't know
what you like to drink. I know I saw pictures
of my father with us five sixteen theres in his hands,

(01:37:29):
you know, ye yeah, sh whatever the hell whatever was
around yea, yeah, basically whatever somebody brought.

Speaker 2 (01:37:37):
So a fucking barroom and a fucking yep beer, I'm
going to be that's cool, man, I mean so.

Speaker 1 (01:37:43):
And then he ran it my brother's fresh year, he
ran the sixteen.

Speaker 2 (01:37:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:37:48):
Then he ran a double all ever since. And then
I just started with the double L. But when I
drove my cousin, I actually ran. He was thirty three,
so I ran three, even though I was in a
different division. No ship, yeah, in three. And then when
I ran Donald Thompson a couple of times I had
to run, oh three, because wouldn't let me run a

(01:38:10):
double L. Make sense, somebody else already had sixteen they
didn't liked back in the day, which some of the
tracks that I went to with it, they just put
it down as eleven. Ah, gotcha? Yeah, I mean fuck it, yeah,
I mean ll no. But that was the thing. I
was score it. We can't score it, can't score ll
scored as eleven.

Speaker 2 (01:38:29):
Yeah yeah that makes sense.

Speaker 1 (01:38:30):
Yeah, well we already have an eleven okay whatever, triple
l Yeah. So that's basically where that came from.

Speaker 2 (01:38:42):
So how were the Fast fifties?

Speaker 1 (01:38:47):
They were good? How was so? What was that?

Speaker 2 (01:38:49):
What was the fast fifties?

Speaker 1 (01:38:51):
Street stocks? Street stocks that star Star and huts Star
in Hutson series. Oh okay, so it was a whole
series and stuff. Was there like a big money races.
I mean, that's pretty good back in that time. Yeah,
it was pretty good back then. The five hundred win
and they had their own like championship thing if yeah,

(01:39:13):
points deal for those races.

Speaker 2 (01:39:15):
Like the Triple Crown or the Battle of the Belt
ship that you see now.

Speaker 1 (01:39:18):
So I think there was I think it was like
eight races Ford star Ford, Hudson. Oh okay, we won
a couple of Hudson, a couple of I think one
of two and stuff. Yeah. And Timmy kadiask so so
the Rolling rat.

Speaker 2 (01:39:34):
Trap Yeah, no, I hear you on that have you
ever gone over the fucking tire barrier at Hudson Never
been tis.

Speaker 1 (01:39:43):
I was out there, Holy ship. I went off like
on an angle off of the back, like the middle
of the back stretch, on an angle. Yeah, I just
missed the blocks that were down Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:39:53):
Oh fuck.

Speaker 1 (01:39:54):
I remember, yeah because my first ever run at nuts
and I got put over there and I was like,
there's fucking cement blocks down here.

Speaker 2 (01:40:01):
Yeah, holy shit.

Speaker 1 (01:40:02):
And another time I was going down a backstretch. I
was on the outside of somebody and it was in
the thunder Cars in ninety two. Yeah, and some guy
from Seakunk decided he wanted to go down on the
bottom three wide like they do down there. Bumped the
bumped the guy that was on the inside of me.
We touched tires because the tires stuck out on those
guys touched tires. I hopped wheels and I went straight

(01:40:25):
out top turn three. Ooh yeah, so that's that's the
drop off. Yeah, But the coyle landed on like brush.

Speaker 2 (01:40:32):
Oh, that's not that bad.

Speaker 1 (01:40:33):
I went to get out of the cow and I
stepped right through the brush. But the cow is sitting
on top of the brush with the two front tires
still spinning. It's pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (01:40:40):
That's that must be.

Speaker 1 (01:40:41):
Okay, so you've been off turn three. Yeah, And then
I got hooked on the backstretch by a guy when
I was driving Tim Kadiaskay and I went h I
went out there backwards and when I landed, I was
looking straight up at this guy. I was actually on
a livery a bump up, looking straight up. Holy fuck. Yeah.
When the Oscar's crew guys comes a bucket, Comhova sticks
his head over the hood. You okay, Yeah, I'm good.

Speaker 2 (01:41:05):
Yeah, because I remember, like my dad used to tell
me stories and stuff like that, like there used to
be fucking tree stumps down there and fucking bad, Like
he wrecked out there one time and the fucking tree
stump went through the fucking passengers floor and fucking It's
just like, but like, did you ever get wet when
you went off the back stretch?

Speaker 1 (01:41:22):
Now that was before it started creeping up, as my
mother would say, did you go see the beavers?

Speaker 2 (01:41:29):
But that's like one of the things that like stick
around here, even though they have a wall up now,
But that was the biggest Oh you make it to
the pond yet, Yeah, yeah, exactly That was one of
the things that you had to keep in keep in
the back of your mind, and you couldn't.

Speaker 1 (01:41:43):
Like the new people.

Speaker 2 (01:41:44):
They'd see the tire barrier and I'd be like, don't
even think about it, just fucking race. And if he
had out there, just brace. That's all I can tell you.
That's the fuck. I used to use those tires as
a set up mark for fucking three, so I wasn't
afraid of them. But I knew one time. I'll go
over there and came close one time, but never never
when they had him, I never had.

Speaker 1 (01:42:04):
I never come close, never even come close to him. Yeah,
and we got rev shots going on outside. Oh yeah,
good old lull team Honda holding it down. You got
a guy with a chassis Donald right down the street
him a two o'clock in the morning.

Speaker 2 (01:42:25):
Oh oh, the tuning guy.

Speaker 1 (01:42:30):
It is one day down here on Tanna Street. We
hear him like two o'clock in the morning. Oh yeah,
I think that's Dyla Cruz, right, I don't know, you
don't know, okay, I I think he's down the street
from here. I'm not sure. I'm not sure, but yeah,
he does does that tuning ship. We'll go away from that. Yeah,
what were the what were the years you had the

(01:42:50):
most fun, the most fun that you couldn't had a
lot of a lot of fun. In ninety two, yeah,
m ninety two we raced a you know, ran a
thunder car, Peter Jark ran his street stock, Louis Mitchelais
ran a spectator car. Oh wow, yeah, and Randy Dean

(01:43:12):
ran a spectator car. So we all, you know, we're
all like together. We all went to the races together.
We all had a good time. It was funny. One
night I won, Louis won, Randy didn't have his spectator car,
and Peter Jark finished second. So we took the funnel,
stuck it upside down on his car called the Dunce
because it didn't win. They go off and drink afterwards

(01:43:37):
and have fun, and you know, it was a blast.
And then ninety four I ran a bud light at
STA and I built Louis street stock. Yeah, we actually
built it together and he ran streets at Hudson, won
the championship. Built it strictly from my cousin Dave. He
won the championship. Wow, worked on Joe paulitz Camaro did

(01:43:58):
all the setup on that he won the rookie championship.
So three championships one year with stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:44:03):
That I you had a hand into it.

Speaker 1 (01:44:06):
I mean, that's that's fucking that had a pretty good year.
That's kind of where it's you know, where the building started,
you know.

Speaker 2 (01:44:12):
Yeah, everybody before is when you really started getting serious
into it.

Speaker 1 (01:44:16):
Yeah, it was, you know, kind of serious. I'm still
doing it as a side. Get some money in your pocket,
gotcha for my own stuff? And yeah, now it's like
it's a full time job. It's like another another repair
businesses like on the back burner. You know, I really
take jobs I want to do.

Speaker 2 (01:44:31):
Yeah, no, I you. Mike Melburg said he did a
good job on his SEACONK car, but he didn't know
how to get on the track with the pro stough
for that.

Speaker 1 (01:44:40):
Yeah, I drove. I drove for them guys. Oh okay,
I didn't know where how to get onto Oh.

Speaker 2 (01:44:46):
So you didn't know how to get on Sea conk
Oh I thought he meant him, but no, no, it's you.

Speaker 1 (01:44:53):
How do you get how do you get on the racetrack?

Speaker 2 (01:44:57):
Is it just a weird a maze?

Speaker 1 (01:44:59):
Or with the fishball? Oh gotcha? One? They only had
one tunnel. Now they got two tunnels. Now.

Speaker 2 (01:45:04):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 1 (01:45:05):
That's true. Yeah. So the first time I have a line,
I'm like, how do I get on the track? Yeah,
so it's actually pretty good. I've also had some good
guys that that helped me over he years. And one
guy that was with me from oh God ninety four
all the way up. I mean I could call him

(01:45:26):
right now, we'll go racing, was guy Richie Blanchett. Helped
me out a lot. It was a good crew guy.

Speaker 2 (01:45:31):
So we'll see you in twenty twenty two.

Speaker 1 (01:45:32):
Possibly. Yeah, I had uh, I mean, you had a
good I had a couple couple of friends named Eddie.
Everybody needs an Eddie.

Speaker 2 (01:45:41):
That's fucking true. That's fucking true.

Speaker 1 (01:45:45):
That's true. To love, that's true. A couple of Brian's,
a couple of mics. Yeah. Yeah, I had a few,
quite a few crew guys over the years. It helped
out a lot, you know, no pay no, yeah, hey, I.

Speaker 2 (01:46:04):
Mean you're just here to fucking learn, you know what
I mean. That's how I take it. When I go
work on other people's cars. It's something new that I
can go learn and good enough for me, you know.

Speaker 1 (01:46:11):
What I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:46:11):
So, so you you knew Louis mitchell oitis pretty fucking well?
I mean, yeah, how was your guys? I mean he's
a big name guy around here too. He took Eric
under his wing.

Speaker 1 (01:46:25):
And you know, back in the day, it was he
needed a balls on Chelseis and he needed motive. Oh
there you go. Yeah, still to this day, yeah, still
to this day. If you want, if you want to
run with the best lot on, that's what you want.
A lot of the street stocks I build have. Yeah,
looking at him modified right now, that has one of them. Minute.

Speaker 2 (01:46:44):
Oh yeah, yeah, so we have Beacher's mod And so
what are you dipping into the mod stuff?

Speaker 1 (01:46:49):
Are you just helping him out? Get it getting ready?
I had to put it back together, put a seat
in it, gotcha. It's pretty hard to put a seat
in for Yeah, he's fucking like six'. Four, yeah when
you put it in the back seat and his freaking
legs are four feet that's. Yeah Question and it says

(01:47:14):
still the. Same let the girls race where she couldn't
race if they want. Them so what so your your,
sister my sister wanted to. Race why didn't you let a?
Race wasn't. Me, oh the old man, said, no, Gotcha,
no you're not. RACING i don't know what it. Is

(01:47:36):
what it, Is, yeah just one of those. Things so
maybe the grand. Babies oh, well, nieces no grand, babies grand,
babies we're. Adopting oh, gotcha, gotcha? Gotcha if they want,
THEM i, mean, yeah two and. Three oh, yeah they got.
Three they got some. Time, yeah they got something out
here with some fucking micro sprints. RIPPING i don't know

(01:47:56):
if you saw any, videos but they're on their power
wheels AND i got to tell you twelve volt.

Speaker 2 (01:48:00):
Battery So i'm gonna do my son when he's. Born
he's gonna feel a little bit of power when he's first.

Speaker 1 (01:48:08):
Going, well when they first got on, him you, know
they had the nine vaults in him and they wouldn't last.
Long AND i put little motorcycle batteries in. Him and
now they last, longer and you know they ain't fast enough,
anymore so we have to Put, yeah there's the next,
step getting them, ready a couple of brigs on.

Speaker 2 (01:48:25):
Him so, yeah there you, go.

Speaker 1 (01:48:28):
Get him.

Speaker 2 (01:48:28):
GOING i, guess like moving, forward what do you what
is your plans for like twenty twenty, two just building uh,
no hanging.

Speaker 1 (01:48:42):
Out we're gonna build some. Casts, yeah been building CAUs oh,
yeah it doesn't really stopped and building, them fixing them
and WHICH i appreciate all the all the guys THAT
i do work. FAR i, mean yeah to no, END
i appreciate. It you know WHAT i. Mean it's keeps you. Alive,
yeah it keeps them. ALL i try to give them
best DEAL i. Can.

Speaker 2 (01:49:02):
Yeah, Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:49:05):
We're gonna do uh probably some street stock racing with
d n L oh there you. Go so With, Lewis
larry And. Richie, YEAH i just don't know What kyle
we're gonna use. Yet we bought uh, well they Bought
Ben's kyle last Year ben street stock THAT i did For. Ben, okay,

(01:49:27):
yeah AND i ran it that. Star but his, Son
lewis is Son daniels gonna run it At. Hudson oh
what's his last? Name?

Speaker 2 (01:49:38):
Uh, okay, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:49:41):
Yep so he's gonna run it At hudson full. Time.
Uh and THEN i think we're either going to take
one of the existing cars or we're gonna build a
brand new car and make it for something for. Me
go where you're. Going probably don't run fruit shows and
the Fast. Fordies oh so you're going to be At. Star.
YEAH i don't want to do the next stuff BECAUSE
i really don't want to race against any of the

(01:50:01):
GUYS i build cars. For oh, YEAH i mean, yeah
it's a fucking, yeah its conflict of interest there the
fast forties At, style LIKE i Built Anthony Bill FIURI'S,
Ca Shane generon's Cart, Style rob. McCrae i mean those
guys will be, there, yeah, yeah but they're not they're

(01:50:21):
not going to get mad at. Anything yeah, yeah, no,
NO i got. THAT a lot of them won't get
mad THAT i built. FOR i just. DON'T i just
don't want that.

Speaker 2 (01:50:28):
Conflict, well, yeah it's a conflict of interest. THERE i
mean then if you start going out and winning and they're,
like well what do do you do to your? Car
THAT'S i get. It, yeah, NO i totally understand.

Speaker 1 (01:50:38):
It it's a tough. Thing so we'll see Yet Star yeah.
Hopefully yep for the Fast. Fordies so was IT fourd
demas for them or?

Speaker 2 (01:50:45):
Something, yeah then you're gonna go do the tour. Stuff,
yeah you can see you up at Speed away fifty
one and all.

Speaker 1 (01:50:51):
That.

Speaker 2 (01:50:52):
Yeah oh fucking. AWESOME i mean that's.

Speaker 1 (01:50:54):
GREAT i mean, hopefully you, KNOW i MEAN i would
like to be ready For, louden BUT i don't think
that's gonna. Happen oh, yeah UNLESS i Run DANIELS, ca
you know which that could. Happen, Yeah, larry if.

Speaker 2 (01:51:06):
You but that's. Cool so LIKE i, said like you
you Ran New Hampshire Motor. Speedway how was? That that
must have been?

Speaker 1 (01:51:17):
Different huh? Different but it. Sucks it sucks because it's
flat or, okay NOW i know what? All and it
seemed this seems.

Speaker 2 (01:51:28):
Oh there Seems i've never raced the seams that moves
the cow.

Speaker 1 (01:51:31):
Around oh no. Ship So i'm, like NOW i know
what the old cup guys complain. About.

Speaker 2 (01:51:35):
Gotcha you, know.

Speaker 1 (01:51:38):
The cow wasn't that. Good you, know we were struggling with.
It we have a good and then we'd have to
put different ties on and then it was awful little
AND i know WHAT i need, now, yeah, yeah, yeah
you KNOW i wish we had a test day you.
Know oh that's. True, yeah you know we went up
the blinding first ever. One. Yeah PLUS i brought, there
PLUS i brought the wrong. Car you know How Michael

(01:51:58):
waltrip was at the wrong. Track oh, yeah, YEAH i
brought the wrong. CAR i brought a cement. Block oh,
oh NOW i got what you. Mean, yeah, OKAY i
should have brought the Ol.

Speaker 2 (01:52:10):
Yeah, yeah oh that's.

Speaker 1 (01:52:11):
True that was broke so we couldn't take.

Speaker 2 (01:52:14):
That but but, YEAH i, KNOW i get your. POINT i, mean,
yeah it is.

Speaker 1 (01:52:19):
Flat i've never raced the, place so you, have so
that's it's pretty good insight to get out of. You,
yeah but it wasn't any. Good, no that's FUN i,
mean BUT i mean that's that's a lot of speed
to carry. In, yeah, yeah the, Speed the speed was pretty.
Good it was funny because like going down a, straightaway
Little jimmy passed me in three and four get up underneath,

(01:52:41):
me AND i kind of let him get in front of.
Me and then we came down the front. Stretch SO
i wonder how the draft, works you, Know, yeah about
three quas way down a straight. Away IF i didn't
take a left to pull by, HIM i would have drove.
Right holy, SHIP i sucked up to, him you. Know
and then the same thing with him down the. Backstretch
he sucked up to me so, fast you.

Speaker 2 (01:52:57):
Know but It, yeah, no that's.

Speaker 1 (01:53:01):
CRAZY i, mean that's probably the first time you ever
had to deal with, drafting right, yeah because To, thompson not,
really it's you don't really feel a Draft.

Speaker 2 (01:53:09):
Yeah, yeah, yeah that are pulling you fucking helmet.

Speaker 1 (01:53:16):
Off yeah. YEAH i.

Speaker 2 (01:53:18):
Mean, SO i, mean you got you got twenty twenty
two coming, Up you got a couple of things going
on for, Yourself you got any goals for? Yourself go,
win just, win.

Speaker 1 (01:53:28):
Just, Win no, goals just, Win just winn up front and.
Win that's a you, know look at like all my
costs to.

Speaker 2 (01:53:36):
Do, yeah, yeah, YEAH i, KNOW i get.

Speaker 1 (01:53:38):
THAT i, mean.

Speaker 2 (01:53:42):
Have you ever had like any like funny things happened
to you at the? Track anything like one off things
Like Keith SLICK i got wrecked by a a midget
and an enduro race one. Time and it's just like
every racetrack had their characters over the years and stuff like,
that anybody you had to deal with or like any
just like what the fuck is going on moments that

(01:54:04):
you you know WHAT i?

Speaker 1 (01:54:05):
Mean OH i. DID i did Two chariot racist by
career and both of, them the tow driver was my
Cousin Ronni. Bable the first one was in nineteen eighty
eight we ran it AND i had a rookie cow
which was a. Cutlass. Yeah we had A ford familyt

(01:54:27):
that we told no, motor no, training no. Glass we
got it the car yeah, yeah, yeah wait. Nothing he
was my. Brakes we made SURE i had good brake
pads of. IT i never touched the brakes so that
chain never got. Loose, well we were passing the mot
tweedy for the dog and he hooked us and the chain,

(01:54:50):
broke so we had to fix the, chain go to the,
back come back. Up we ended up winning that. One
so then what year was that had to Be chariot
races were big back in the, NINETIES i want to, say.

Speaker 2 (01:55:06):
Yeah in the early.

Speaker 1 (01:55:07):
Ones, yeah so it was like it was like a
we had an adorable, car big money called it that
was trying again that was the. Dog so about two
thousand and three we were at the. Track we had
an adorable, car big money called at my Buddy jay
owned AND i had some myg stuff into it and,

(01:55:30):
everything and we had it there and my, Cousin, Mike
ronnie's nephew had a hont of prelude or. Something, Yeah
SO i, said you guys want to do cherry Race. Ronnie, hell,
yeah all, right so we hooked. On we started, last

(01:55:50):
won it almost a lot the second place. Guys so
that was messing around after the check it down the,
backstretch Like i'm Whipping ronnie around and all of a,
SUDDEN i don't feel. ANYTHING i feel like, deadness AND
i look back And i'm dragging a bump. Up oh.
Geez SO i drive around And i'm looking For. Ronnie i'm,
like who the hell Is? Ronny he comes up over
the top of the, packet but it is my funny.

(01:56:15):
One did he ever let you Do jarriet races after? That?
Oh we just never didn't. Know Ye. YEAH i think
he did one after that With Timmy lloyd and they
won that one, Too so so there's an axe in
the middle of, That. Hudson was there? Ever figure eight? Races?
There figure rates there all the? Time was there they
used to back WHEN i, Mean i'm fucking too, young,

(01:56:39):
dad EVEN i don't THINK i was even around when
they were doing. Them so back in the early. Eighties,
yeah my father had a guy driving for, Us Emo. Bowldery,
yeah he drove for my dad and the first year
we had like A couliss and then a clements like
seventy seventy. One so they in the rookies at the

(01:57:01):
end of the night that they had enough, time they'd
run a figure out with the same. Cuts no ship,
yeah so it was just like an entertainment. Thing yeah,
okay but yeah yeah yeah. Yeah paid a hundred bucks
paid the rookies paid Forty oh, okay gotcha. Know, yeah
so we run nose with him and then you, know
they ran a few of them here and. THERE i ran.

(01:57:22):
One how was?

Speaker 2 (01:57:23):
That you ship yourself coming through the?

Speaker 1 (01:57:25):
Medal, open wide open for the. Best that's all you can,
Do just hold the wide. Open pretty other guy LIFTS
i finished. SECOND i got beat by a guy that
runs riverhead figure. Rates, oh beat by real figure a

(01:57:46):
Cau oh, gotcha no big.

Speaker 2 (01:57:47):
Deal yeah, yeah, YEAH i had.

Speaker 1 (01:57:48):
A lot of, fun got. Soaked they hit the puddle
in the. Infield oh, yeah those things turned into a fucking. Lake,
Yeah i've hit that. Too SO i did one figure. Eight,
YEAH i did a few. Indoors almost killed myself an
indoor hit a. PoCA OH i didn't have a stort wide,
opened fucking.

Speaker 2 (01:58:10):
Yikes. Yeah but back in the day they didn't really.

Speaker 1 (01:58:12):
Have it was the ship that we have, now you
know WHAT i. Mean he had a lap, belt bucking
seat stock seat. Belt oh do you ever do any
of the? Howlers was? THAT i went out one howl,
uh like my.

Speaker 2 (01:58:28):
Dad it was one that's good.

Speaker 1 (01:58:29):
ENOUGH i think it was two. Thousand. Yeah me and
my Cousin day put a few regels together for, him
AND i was running the strictly race.

Speaker 2 (01:58:39):
With another car worth a lot of.

Speaker 1 (01:58:40):
Money now, yeah, okay especially that one had padded land
out seats and all that ship damn ye ship. Loaded.
Yeah so he come in with a hose that blew.
Off so we fixed the hose and the and he
goes take it, out, Right i'll take it, Out so
take it. Off mess with one of them one cas oh. Ship.

(01:59:01):
YEAH i ran him into a pot. Car he backed
up and started coming out to meet. Hide SO i
stop on the they have a red. FLAG i stop
on the front stress of cad. DIES i just let
it roll to the. INFIELD i get, out walked through
the grand, stands walked back on the. Pits, yeah it's
dead in the. Infield So i'm standing in the pits
and shooting ship and. Stuff, fire stots on, fire some pull,

(01:59:24):
baskets cars on. Fire it was oh, WELL i, mean
at least you're already out of. It fuck, yeah, yeah
that was my only. Howl, yeah my dad did. One
howler fucking got spun backwards on the front, stretch flipped.
Over he's the fucking seat broke off the mount so

(01:59:46):
he's rolling around in the back. Seat he's, like, YEAH
i did, one and that was good. Enough, yeah, yeah
one and. DONE i, mean it's just one of.

Speaker 2 (01:59:52):
Those it's a prestigious, race but it's still kind of
fucking gotta have some balls go.

Speaker 1 (01:59:58):
Out there kind of. Career, yeah, god, yeah good.

Speaker 2 (02:00:01):
Enough oh, Man so how many championship have you?

As Director of The Men’s Clinic at UCLA, Dr. Jesse Mills has spent his career helping men understand their bodies, their hormones, and their health. Now he’s bringing that expertise to The Male Room — a podcast where data-driven medicine meets common sense. Each episode separates fact from hype, science from snake oil, and gives men the tools to live longer, stronger, and happier lives. With candor, humor, and real-world experience from the exam room and the operating room, Dr. Mills breaks down the latest health headlines, dissects trends, and explains what actually works — and what doesn’t.
