Are you superstitious at all? I am a little state,
not superstitious, little stitches, but not superstitious. Okay, I got
you there, So what is it that give me? Give
me an example of something that you're a little superstitious about.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
I absolutely refused to walk underneath any type of ladder.
Speaker 5 (03:13):
Okay, okay, broken mirrors, that's stuff.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
The only thing that I have. And it's not really
I don't know if it's superstition. It's just because I'm weird.
I have to do everything pretty much left to right,
and like in the morning, left left sock goes on
before right left shoe goes on. I do everything in
my life pretty much left to right. I can't. I
cannot do things right to left. That's that's I don't
think that's superstition. I think that's just weird.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
It might be undiagnosed.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
I got a lot of the undiagnosed stuff.
Speaker 6 (03:45):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Let's get to uh or not be police. Spend of
the week is always our our pet's pictures posted it
Dave Allen Radio and Facebook and the WCA Chess Network
Facebook page and at Dave a seventy on x tell
us about tyrone.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
A tyrone. They're all named after the Backyardigans.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
There are four Okay, hold on, hold on, named after.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
The what the Backyardigans. It's a kid's TV show that
was on in like the early two thousands.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Okay, Ryan's shaking his head. I'm supposed to know what
that is? Right, Okay, all right, the Backyardigans. Okay, I
learned so much, you know, the combination between you and
Ryan of doing this show. So Tyrone is named after
a character on The Backyardigans.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
Absolutely, there are fu of them at our shelter. They
arrived on Wednesday, actually via hu an officer. They were
just little stray puppies and he is quite literally just
a puppy. He's best friends with everybody. He's excited to
meet everybody. He's three months old. He's not neutered yet,
but he will be. We are currently running special for
(04:47):
adoptions or a special for Valentine's Day on our adoption feees.
He's only fourteen dollars to adopt and you get his newter,
vaccines and microchip, flea meds Andy Warmer included in that
fourteen dollars.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
And what kind of dog is Tyrone?
Speaker 4 (05:00):
Any idea that would be a West Virginia black and
white dog Okay, I thought.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
That when I saw his picture, I thought I detected
something in there, but I couldn't quite figure out what
it was. It's something that kind of looked familiar to me,
but I just couldn't put my finger on exactly.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
What it was.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
He might be like a bully mix of sorts that
his ears stick straight out like, they don't go up,
and they don't flop over like a bully mix would.
He's just like literally or at like just a straight
line out from his head.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Well, I was trying to Yeah. I was talking to
Chris Lawrence as he was getting off the Morning News
this morning, and I said to you know, you really
ought to adopt this dog. And he said, is it
a pit bull or roth Weiler? And I said, it
can be whatever you want. So we're gonna Chris has
already got a couple of dogs, but he needs another one.
This dog looks like a Chris Lawrence dog.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Yep, he can be whatever. He actually just told me
he will be whatever. Breathed that you guys need him to.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Be whatever you need. And Angie, I don't want to
confuse our pets here, but you have another story on
your Facebook page. And I just read it and somebody's
already texted about it. Appreciate the text about a dog
named Buster. Now his picture is on the Facebook page.
(06:14):
Buster has quite the story. Can you tell us Buster's story?
Speaker 4 (06:19):
Yeah? Absolutely So. Yesterday I was walking around our building
and I heard sirens that sounded like they were in
the parking lot. Are really close, And I walked down
to our lower parking lot and I see across the
street there's a handful of lights and sirens going off
with the Kendall County Sheriff's Office, and one of the
deputies that actually pulled in and said, Hey, we've got
(06:41):
a dog over here. Do you guys care to come
over and get it? So our team go over. Buster
was very scared, understandably so with all the noise and
just a lot of confusion going on. But what had
happened was his owner was actually fleeing from the police
on Greenbriar Street and just so happened to be stopped
(07:02):
right in front of our shelter, which was, you know,
extremely less lucky for Buster that, you know, our team
was right there to respond really quickly. But ever since
coming into our care yesterday, he's been super loose wiggly
and very friendly. He doesn't quite understand what's going on.
Why he's you know, at KHA, Why he was just
you know, riding in the car with his mom and
(07:23):
now she's not there. So one thing to take from
this is your pets will miss you if you make
silly decisions. Your pets are you know, are going to
have to find other arrangements if you go to jail,
if you are in the hospital, et cetera. So just
consider your pets whenever you are, you know, making decisions
(07:46):
for yourself and taking actions because once again, but like
they they don't understand what's happening for sure.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
And so do we know what the status And again
I don't want to step on any toes here, but
do we know what the status of Buster's owners are
at this point?
Speaker 4 (07:59):
The lady so, Buster's owner was arrested yesterday. You can
find a lot of details on the Kenall County Sheriff's
Office Facebook.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
I won't go into Okay, that's right now, that's fine.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
But she was arrested and Buster is in our care
for ten days while we you know, while she makes
arrangements for either herself or a family member or a
friend or just somebody that she knows to come and
reclaim Buster after that ten day period, if she has
no you know, arrangements to get him out of doggy
jail as essentially, then he becomes available for adoption and fostering,
(08:36):
just like any other pets.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Okay, so he's not available now because there's an opportunity
for if this lady gets out or somebody in her
family could come and claim the dog.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
Correct.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Yeah, okay, all right, interesting story you every week, it's
a different story with you, folks.
Speaker 5 (08:50):
It's something yesterday.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
Yesterday I uttered the words I said, I need things
to just stop happening for a second, just for a second.
Speaker 6 (08:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:58):

anywhere for Valentine's Weekend. Now that people can actually get
(09:20):
out and about these days.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
We are not until mid next week. We're staying put
at the shelter because we've had eighty seven total adoptions
since Tuesday, so we're staying put. We're doing pretty good
right right there at the shelter, and they need all
hands on decks, so we're staying put this weekend.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
All right now, I do want to get a little
plug in for Tuxes and Tails because tickets. I know
it's not toil I think April twenty fifth, but tickets
are already on sale.
Speaker 7 (09:51):
Is that right?
Speaker 4 (09:52):
Yes, tickets are on sale. You can visit our Facebook
page four Tuxes and Tails twenty twenty six to get
all the information. It is at a new venue this
year with a new theme, so if you haven't been
the last couple of years, definitely check out this year.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Is that JQ Dickinson Salt Works right?
Speaker 4 (10:09):
Yes, correct. We're super excited about.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
L twenty fifth. We'll be talking plenty more about that
as we get a little bit closer. Do we have
anything else to report on the case of Stubbs and
Stubbs was the dog we told you about a couple
of weeks ago that was shot possibly thrown out of
a window of a car, or possibly run over. Somebody
dropped Stubbs off at the shelter. You were trying to
(10:32):
do the life saving surgery on him. It got to
a point that you just had to stop because his
body just gave out. I know the investigation was continuing
with Charleston Police Department.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
Any other updates on that, nothing new recently on The
last update I got was that there was an investigation ongoing.
That's about it. There's not really been any developments. And
I did hear that like there is there may be
a situation where there is no proof to you know,
(11:03):
prosecute proof who pulled the trigger on this dog? Who
exactly did this? So I just don't want to get
everyone's hopes up.
Speaker 5 (11:10):
I got you.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
It may turn out that way, but as of right now,
the investigation is still ongoing, so hopefully it will be
in sub in our favor.
Speaker 5 (11:20):
All right.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
I want to go back because we get a text
about Buster.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
This was the dog.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
This is not the one we're trying to We're trying
to get him all adoptive, but Buster is not ready yet. Okay,
But they wanted to know how what kind of shape
Buster was in is he okay? He or she okay?
Speaker 4 (11:34):
Yeah? Buster was actually, I mean in pretty good health,
other than being a little nervous around the Copson uniform,
which you know, don't blame him. That can be scary,
but he was in perfect health. And once he got
to KHA, he's been perfect behavior wise. So he is
a well taken care of dog if nothing else.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
All right, Angie, is always a pleasure to have you
on the show, and we'll talk again next week and
hopefully it calms down for you guys a little bit
up there.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
Yeah, absolutely, thank you, all right.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
Angel gillla WAA Canal Charleston U Maine Association. Tyrone is
the dog we're trying to get adopted this week. He's
around three months old, just got to the shelter yesterday.
A puppy, loves everyone and everything, and he's part of
their Valentine's Day special today and tomorrow. Fourteen bucks you
can get Tyrone and that will include the neutering, the vaccine,
(12:24):
even the de worming, and the flea meds and the
micro chipping. To only fourteen bucks A great little about
a three month old puppy would be a fantastic dog.

Where right now, we're going to take you right down
the street to the Judicial Annex in the courtroom of
Judge Mary Claire Akers. Good morning, your honor, Welcome to
(15:21):
the show.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
Good morning, Dave. How are you?
Speaker 2 (15:24):
I'm doing fine. It's the day before Valentine's Day. The
King of Hearts wedding ceremonies are underway. How's it going
so far? Have we had any customers yet?
Speaker 10 (15:34):
We have three different couples right now waiting in the
hallway to get married. We had an adoption first thing
this morning, a bunch of the cutest kids ever. And
now the phrase six seven is on the record officially
in my courtroom.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
Well, you're always a trendsetter, judge, You're always a trendsetter,
all right. So you got couples waiting right now. You
know what you could do is you could put them
on the air with me and I could give him
some advice.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
How's that?
Speaker 10 (15:59):
That's how great you want me to go?
Speaker 2 (16:01):
No, no, I don't think because because in my luck,
they'll probably say what station is this? You know now,
I'm not gonna do that. I won't put them on
the spot like that. So how long do the typical
ceremonies take?
Speaker 10 (16:12):
So these these are all typical. We just have a
script that we read. It usually takes between two and
three minutes. Really, if people have things they want to say,
we obviously let them say whatever they want to say
and then remain afterwards to take whatever pictures they want.
Because we have our arch made by balloons by Birdie
ready to go, so we are photographed ready in here.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
It sounds good. It's a big shout out to those
folks for getting involved with this as well. Now, all
they got to do, if people listening right now they
say let's go ahead, and let's go ahead and get
this taken care of. They just got to go to
the clerk's office and get there, get their license right,
that's right, and then just come on in and there's
no appointments necessary. But if someone, because you said you've
already got three couples waiting right now, if someone, if someone,
(16:56):
I'm gonna get you off here so you can get
to them. So if somebody does want to call in
and say, hey, we're coming down from this area, we
would like to book an appointment or just let you know,
just let you guys know that they're coming. What number
do they need to call?
Speaker 10 (17:10):
They call three zero four three six seven zero three
six seven. And actually, right as I took your call, Dave,
someone was calling, I think from Bluefield and saying they
were going to come down and get married today. So
looking forward to.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
Well, we talked about when you were on the show
with the other day, it's going to be a nice day,
a little bit cool in the capital city, but it's
sunny all day, so it'd be a great time for
people to go ahead and get Mary, take a walk
down to Boulevard or Magic Island or wherever they want
to do, and just enjoy the capital city on this
cold Friday the thirteenth.
Speaker 10 (17:39):
That's right, make your Friday the thirteenth special.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
All right, We're going to let you get back to
it because you got We don't want anybody, you know,
like changing their mind while they're out there in the hall,
and I don't want that to be on over your
head or my head, So we'll let you get back
to it. Judge Mary Claire Day, Yeah, there you go.
Everybody blames me for everything, Judge Mary Clare, akers appreciate it.
We'll talk soon. Thanks a lot.
Speaker 10 (17:58):
All right, thanks Dave.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
All right again, that is going to be going on
throughout the day. If you want to get married, now
is the time. She's already got three in the in
the in the bullpen ready to go. Maybe I should
have put them on the air, you know, maybe I
should have.
Speaker 7 (18:12):
Don't know.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
It's nine twenty five.

Tony the Taylor right now. All right, So tell you
what I'm going to do. I am going to while
we are on the air here, I am going to
actually send a text. This is real live radio here,
and while we're trying to hook up with Tony the Tender. Well,
the problem we have is is sometimes I'm going to
give you a little inside baseball here. The problem that
(19:19):
we have is people these days have their phones set
up so if your phone is not in their contact
doesn't let you call them, and it goes straight to voicemail.
And you'd be surprised on a talk show how often
that that happens when we call somebody and if we're
not in their contacts, it goes straight to voicemail. And
(19:39):
I have a feeling with the last two. That's what

Speaker 5 (19:58):
How's it going, Good morning, Dave, how are you all?
Speaker 2 (20:01):
I am doing fine, Thank you for being on the show.
I want to give a little bit of time to
talk about this winter clearance sale that you've got going
on right now. It's going to wrap up today, right
or is it just today.
Speaker 5 (20:11):
Today's the final day and we will be all spring
by Monday morning.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
All right, what you got for us?
Speaker 5 (20:17):
I have some great deals with some pants up to
ninety percent off, and we do ninety percent off of
these because it's easy to figure the discount.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
Because we're not that smart here, okay, all right?
Speaker 5 (20:27):
And we also have a good selection left a sports shirts,
especially large sizes, some double X and triple X because
those Zimpic has changed the size scales. Again indeed, not
much left and small a lot left in double X
sport codes here for like forty nine bucks. Some sizes
(20:48):
left yesterday. It started yesterday, and the course it's always slammed,
and the first day is always the biggest day. Push
does some things left and it's cash only on the
y percent off stuff. But also we have brand new
spring merchandise send us outstanding new sport coats here, good
looking and we're giving an early bird discount is at
(21:10):
twenty percent off. And I have some new Johnny o
in which are hugely popular sports word brand.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
And what's going on here well with the winner that
we've had h and again it's only lasted about two
and a half weeks. It seems, but I think people
want they want that springtime stuff, so it'd be nice
to see that out there.
Speaker 5 (21:26):
And you know, the Legends a lot of spring stuff yesterday. Okay,
this is kind of transitional spring. You know, some nice
quarter zips and shirts. And got some cool new quarter
zip from Johnny O. It's in a new performance fabric.
It's been really hot. So we're we're on a third
reorder of it and we just got it in four
weeks ago.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
Well, give us real quick. I want you to tell
me why people should should come into a store like yours,
as opposed to just going to buying something off their
act somewhere.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
Uh well, clothing, we're professionals and we're tailors. You know,
you see people on TV either sleeves or down by
their thumbs because they bought it at a chain store
or a department store and they don't have tailors there
they and and if they do, they're going to charge
you for alterations. Us we have free alterations. You buy
something from us free forever, lose weight, gain weight to
(22:15):
bring it back. Also a quality we carry mostly first
world country things of clothing made by adults.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
All right, and that's what that's what we need and support.
A good Charleston business has been in business for a
long time. Tony the Taylor Mike Pushkin State Democratic Party
Chair and delegates going to be coming up next. He
wanted to verify you did say pants were ninety percent off? Yes,
your pants were ninety percent.
Speaker 5 (22:41):
As he's lost weight, his pants are almost ninety percent.
Speaker 10 (22:43):
Off now too.
Speaker 7 (22:44):
I'm sorry that just brought a horrible image to my mind, Tony,
so pants.
Speaker 5 (22:51):
All right?
Speaker 2 (22:51):
What time you closing up today, Tony?
Speaker 5 (22:54):
We close it five thirty today, open up ten thirty,
close at five thirty.
Speaker 2 (22:57):

(24:23):
State Democratic Party chair and delegate from the fifty fourth
Mike Pushkin, Welcome to the show.
Speaker 7 (24:27):
My friend, Good morning, good to see you. How's it going, man,
that's going great. See now, I always like when the
legislature is in session when you come in because you
know you're all you're all dressed up. He didn't come
right out of the gym like you normally do. And
I's just about the jacket and pants both came from Tony.
There you go, supporting local business they actually fit. Yeah, yeah,
(24:48):
supporting local businesses. So what's so far?
Speaker 2 (24:52):
You're at the halfway point minus one day. How's it
going under the dome so far?
Speaker 7 (24:56):
Well, yeah, It's always said every year, when it's all
said and done, a whole lot more gets said than
ever gets done. I'll start by going into the session
we heard to offset the huge PIA premium increases that
we're seeing. We're now looking at a fourth one since
twenty twenty three, when the Republican supermajority passed this bill
(25:22):
was Center Bill two sixty eight that led to these
increased premiums for our state workers, for our teachers. That
going into the session, I mean, the governor said we're
going to do a pay raise. The Republicans and the
legislature said we're going to do a pay raise. Even
the governor in waiting, Treasurer Larry Pack, said, we're going
to do a pay raise.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
Governor, where's the pay raise?
Speaker 10 (25:44):
Now?
Speaker 7 (25:44):
The Democrats have introduced a pay raise bill that is
across the board, a much better bill. I'm not holding
my bread for them for them to run that, but
they're not running any pay raise bills. I don't think
there's any appetite at all for the stuff that they
were promising at the beginning of the session, which was
a pay raise to offset these rising health care costs.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
So what about the income tax? I mean, there seems
to be let's leave the Democratic Party out for a moment.
There seems to be you know, the governor's proposing this
tax cut he talked about in the state of the space,
the state of the state. There's a lot of Republicans
that have questions about it, saying, you know, we'd love
to have it nobody wants to pay more taxes, but
we just don't have We just don't have it.
Speaker 7 (26:23):
So well, it depends on which you know, which day
you talk to the governor in the state of the state,
he said ten percent, and what he introduced was a
five percent, so he wants the legislature to make up
the other five percent. Either way, what you're talking about
to the average West virgin I'm not talking about for
the millionaires, but for the average working West Virginian it's
what maybe you know, it's it's pennies on the dollar.
(26:45):
Really to that that kind of a ten percent or
even five percent income tax cut, It's not really a
whole lot of savings. It's not going to be life changing. Now,
what would be It would be a bill that the
Democrats are supporting I have proposed, which would be a
freeze on rate increases for our utility rates, which West
(27:06):
Virginia has seen the sharpest increases in the entire nation
in the past several years. And that would give families
real relief immediately if we froze the rates until we
were able to get things under control and bring things
back down to a reasonable level. Right now in West
Virginia got families trying to make a decision on whether
to keep keep the lights on or get groceries. I
(27:26):
don't think a five percent or ten percent income tax
cut is going to offset that.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
Our bill really does, that really does put.
Speaker 7 (27:33):
Money back into the pockets of working West Virginians.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
I want to step away just for a moment to
the state stuff, and we'll get back to it here momentarily.
There have been a lot of the national pundits, Mike,
that have said that this is going to be a
good year for the Democrats. And I don't mean I'm
not talking about West Virginia right now, which may be
a good year for them in West Virginia two, but
I'm talking about on the national level because of Epstein files,
because of the big word, the big buzzword for twenty
(27:57):
twenty five slash twenty twenty six has been affordabil and
in some races, many people have said, many people that
are totally nonpartisan have said, this is going to be
a good year for the Democrats. Well, it should be,
and that was.
Speaker 7 (28:12):
Reflected in our candidate recruitment efforts. You know, we had
a great organizing effort, but it wasn't all us. A
lot of it was just the mood of the people.
People are ready to step up and run because they
can sense what appears to be happening here and that
the president and it's always about unfortunately, it's always about
national politics. But the president's numbers are rapidly, rapidly declining,
(28:33):
and that's why you're seeing these efforts from what I see,
and it's fairly scary to federalize the election. Now, that's unconstitutional.
It's laid out in the Constitution that states run elections.
Used to work for the Secretary of State's office, and
I would like to commend our current Secretary of State,
Chris Warner, for doing the right thing and standing up
(28:55):
to Trump's Department of Justice. And you know, I hate
to say that like that, but it is with Pam there.
It's Trump's Department of Justice. But standing up to them
and refusing to turn over this, you know, this voter data.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
It's a direct violation of West Virginia state law.
Speaker 7 (29:12):
Yes to do that, Yeah, that was personal information about
people that should not be turned over to the federal
government like that. And why do My question is why
do they want it? Because it's an effort to federalize elections,
which is unconstitutional. And they're doing this because I think
they can also read the tea leaves and they're concerned
about about the midtra as they should. But I think
(29:34):
things tend to balance themselves out, and you're going to
see more checks and balances in government when you have
a more balanced government.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
I was going to bring that up about Secretary Warner
because he was on talk line yesterday, and look, he
just was steadfast and saying what they are asking not
only West Virginia but other states to do is in
West Virginia, it's a violation of the law in West Virginia,
it's violation of the Constitution in general. And he said,
and that's not something that is easy for a Republican
(30:03):
to do in West Virginia. But I'm with you. I
give him credit for that, and a similar people may
forget this, Mike. A similar ask was made of Chris
Warner's brother Mac in like twenty I want to say,
twenty eighteen, when Trump the first was in office, when
the first term was going to A similar ask was
(30:23):
made then and Mac Warner also said no, and other
states did as well. But I thought it was interesting
that I think you guys on your social media went
public and commended the current Secretary Warner and even shared
a story on there. It's something you don't see out
of the Democrats very often or any party, you know,
commending the other side.
Speaker 7 (30:44):
Oh, don will give credit where credit is due. It
is it does take courage to stand up to the
president of the United States. And that's where it's coming from.
And it's based on this this you know, this conspiracy
theory that's been you know that the president has been
clinging to for sixty years years that the twenty twenty
election was rigged or stolen, and he can't you know,
(31:05):
he wants to dwell on that, yet wants us to,
you know, get over the Epstein files. He says, yeah,
let's quit talking about the Epstein files. Let's talk about
the twenty twenty election. Sorry, the Epstein files are not
going away. The President, i believe, is mentioned about forty
thousand times in those files. They need to be released
unredacted for the protection of the victims, not the protection
(31:28):
of the predators.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
And you would say that if because you know, there's
been several other Democrats that have been mentioned that. Okay,
I'm believe I want to make consistent. I know you
would be yeah, don't.
Speaker 7 (31:40):
Yeah, Let's not protect the predators, Let's protect the victims.
That's what's important. I mean, it was disgusting to see
the victims sitting in that room while Pam Bondi sat
there and was screaming about the dal Jones. It was
it was insulting. It's insulting to every American and everything.
So maybe that's why we're seeing more Republicans find the
courage to stand up to this president because they're seeing
(32:03):
that that you know, it's a sinking ship. Okay, and
maybe it'll take a little longer in a state here
like West Virginia, but it's coming. And we have a
lot of great candidates on the ballot, up and down
the ballot, and we're going to give voters choices, and
voters are going to make the right choices, and we're
going to restore some sanity to our government.
Speaker 2 (32:22):

Speaker 2 (33:53):
It is about nineteen minutes away from ten o'clock on
a Friday morning to Dave Allen Show on five. A
d line brought to you a fired by a Bridge
Community and Technical College vis Bridge Valley dot edu, Bridge
Valley Community Technical College. Your career starts here, State Democratic
Party Chair, don'tleg at. Mike Pushkin is here tech says,
I genuinely have no idea why women vote. Republican Republicans
(34:14):
view women as lesser than men. Republicans want to force
women to rape babies. Republicans would rather a woman be
in pain or die rather than to have an abortion.
Republicans are now trying to disenfranchise women's vote with the
Save Act. When are women going to realize Republicans see
them as second class? Well, I think more and more are.
Speaker 7 (34:33):
And that's why you're seeing this effort on a national
level with the text are brought up the Save Act
and that would be a you know, federal voter ID. Okay,
now we have voter ID in West Virginia, and you know,
a driver's license or a voter registration card, a.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
Proof of who you are.
Speaker 7 (34:53):
But this Save Act goes way further than that, something
about a passport or a birth certificate. Now, in the
case of a birth certificate, when women get married, oftentimes
they changed their name. That's going to that could lead
to the disenfranchisement of women voters. And you know what
that A lot of the Republicans have been saying the
quiet part out loud lately, saying that they are talking
(35:13):
about repealing the Nineteenth Amendment, about not allowing well to
be fair.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
I haven't heard anybody in West Virginia say Derek Derek
Evans doesn't count.
Speaker 7 (35:21):
He was he was a member, he briefly for about
five minutes. He was a member of the legislature and
a former former delegate, former felon because President Trump did
pardon him. But you know, it's also been said by
Pete Haig Sith, who is the what the Secretary of War.
It has been said by members of Congress said that
because I haven't seen that in the past.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
Hag Seth has said that, Yes, Texas, Florida guy here, Dave,
Remember you're talking to a Democrat, Mike Pushkin. The tax
cuts Democrats is like showing dracket of the cross.
Speaker 7 (35:52):
Oh no, I mean nobody likes taxes, don't get me wrong,
But when you're talking about a minuscule cut to the
state income tax, that's really not going to give working
families or Now that might be relief for millionaires and billionaires,
and maybe your friend from Florida, maybe he's a billionaire
and would benefit from something like that, but you know,
for most West Virginians, it's not a whole lot of money.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
What we're talking about.
Speaker 7 (36:16):
Is real savings in regards to actually addressing these out
of control utility rates here in West Virginia. And you
do that without bankrupting the state. That way, you don't
have to keep raising pei A premiums, you don't have
to keep taking it out on essential services. When you
find relief for folks that way.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
Texas, how are they going to raise wages when they're
cutting taxes? It's not logical.
Speaker 7 (36:41):
Well that's a good question. But they promised both, right,
I mean every one of them. The governor promised both.
The Republicans and the legislature promised both. You know, Treasurer
Larry Larry Pack has promised both. So I don't I don't.
You're right, it doesn't add up. I want to go
back to the Cannaba, Canada.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
That recruitment that that you and the state Democratic Party
did on Wednesday show, I think it was we had
Greg Thomas on the show on the Metro News. I
heard part of that.
Speaker 7 (37:10):
I was driving.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
Greg Thomas came out and said, I want to give
the Democratic Party credit, you know, for being able to
get people to run in those positions.
Speaker 7 (37:19):
I think he understands because he was active with the
Republican Party back when they were in a minority, and
he knows how hard it is to get to get
folks to run when you're recruiting them to run into
an in you know, in the minority party. So yeah,
I appreciate that. I mean, I think he knows what
you know, what it, what it's taken, and the kind
(37:40):
of organizing efforts that we put into it. I must say, though,
I think other folks are paying attention to because there's
a bill running now at his sponsor. The lead sponsor,
of course, is is the chair of the West Virginia
Republican Party, Delegate Josh Holstein from Boone County, and he's
pushing a bill that would make it even harder, of course,
for us to recruit candidates, because it's right now there's
(38:01):
like a window for someone to run. If you're a
Republican and you want to run as a Democrat, if
you're a Democrat you want to run as a Republican,
there's a certain time frame before you They want to
lengthen that to six months and then add independence to
it as well, to keep independence from running in one
political party or another way I see it. An independent
is an independent for a reason. Okay, they don't feel
(38:23):
a strong affiliation to one party or the other, but
if they want to run for office genuinely, they're going
to pick And there are several Republicans right now in
the legislature who were independents right before they filed to run,
several of them here in Kannak County, Okay.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
But what's wrong with that?
Speaker 5 (38:38):
Right?
Speaker 7 (38:39):
We want to encourage people to run for office, and
if somebody is, they're not affiliate, they're not superpartisan. That
might be better for government to have more people like that,
and they should be able to choose which party they
want to run and then do that. I don't understand
what the problem is that they're trying to address. But
of course, yeah, Delegate Holstein in the Republican super majority
is hell bent on making it harder for people to
(39:00):
who filed or run for office.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
Gee, I wonder why let's talk about the independents.
Speaker 7 (39:06):
You know, they're republic They're going to shut them out
of their primary, and now they want to shut them
out of running for office too. It seems like just
like the Republican Party and here in West Virginia is
waging war on independent unaffiliated. But I mean the Republican
Party welcome. We want them to run for office, we
want them to vote in our primary. The Republican Party
base and it's like it's their it's their party. They
can every time I say that, I think I should
(39:27):
channel Leslie Gore and say it's their party and they
can cry if they want to.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
But I don't mean they're crying. But uh, but it's
their party. They want, they could do what they want
with their party, and they they chose again, which is
a decision they made before to upheld to uphold their
ruling that that independence aren't welcome. So if you're a
registered independent when you go to the primary in the past,
you've been able to go in and say I'm Dave,
(39:51):
I'm a registered independent, but I want a Republican ballot.
Speaker 1 (39:54):
You will not.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
You will no longer do that. You can still get
a Democrat ballot. Okay, you can still get a Democrat ballot,
or you're going to be looking at all nonpartisan races
and that's all that you are going to get. I
have said to my friends on the Republican Party, you
really need to do a good job of getting the
word out on this because I think what's going to
happen is is come primary election day, Mike, I think
a lot of independents are going to show up at
(40:16):
the polls and you know, maybe shame on them for
not knowing the rules, but they're going to show up
and they're going to take it out on some eighty
year old poll worker when they're only allowed to vote
for board.
Speaker 7 (40:25):
Of education or something that a lot of them do
know the rules and don't like being told what to do,
and they're not going to go switch their independence for
a reason, okay, And they're not going to go switch
because of this ridiculous move from the Republican Party to
shut them out. The good news is when they ask
for that Democratic ballot, They're going to have real choices.
(40:45):
We're going to have a competitive primary at the top
of the ticket all the way down in many cases
where you have primaries and our legislative races. In many
cases across the state. In Logan County, we have primaries
for House of Delegates in both of the House districts
in Logan County right now. On the Democratic side, we
have primaries people want to run.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
Which is not I can tell you being from there,
it is.
Speaker 7 (41:06):
We haven't had that.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
Thirty years ago there were no Republicans I mean zero,
I mean zero Republicans.
Speaker 14 (41:12):
Well, we're giving and now it's all we're giving voters
choices this time, and we're going to have a lot
more voters in our primary because of this boneheaded move
from the Republicans to kick the independence and unaffiliated voters out.
Speaker 7 (41:24):
And when they get that democratic ballot, there will be
choices now. Like I said, this part that's very concerning
to me now is this effort where they don't want
independence running for office and winning. That to me is
undemocratic and there's absolutely no.
Speaker 5 (41:37):
Need for it.
Speaker 7 (41:38):
The current law, existing law has not been a problem.
I mean Apparently the problem that they're trying to dress
is the Republicans feel too many people are running for office.
I call that democracy. That's a beautiful thing about this country.
We want people to run for office. We want more
people to run for office, not less.
Speaker 2 (41:55):
Texas can't wait for the purity test, stubbornness and pettiness
to fragment the Republican Party.
Speaker 7 (42:00):
That's it's already going on. Well, then they spent more
time recruiting against themselves and they did recruiting against us.
Uh there's only I mean, out of nine nine Democratic seats,
they only recruited Republicans in three of them, three of them,
three out of nine. That's not very good.
Speaker 2 (42:17):
It's not very good. Uh recruitment, Say math Texas, thank
you for the weekly segment fear MONGERINGE with Mike Pushkin.
Speaker 7 (42:26):
Oh that's not We're spreading hope and love.

Speaker 2 (42:45):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (42:46):
In fact, she's starting her tour I believe in late
May in Portland, Oregon. She's going to Europe, and then
she's going to be playing in Columbus in June. And
then it was just announced that I'm talking about Sierra
used to be was a singer mar when she there

the West coast. Would be very early for her to
be listening currently, but no, that that'd be great. I
do get to go see her. I mean, she's my
favorite singer in the whole world, so occasionally I go
to her shows and hang out and get here.
Speaker 2 (47:00):
She's been on this show years ago. You've been on here, Texas.
If you have to be a Republican to vote in
the Republican primary, what's required of you to join the
Republican Party? Money bitcoin firstborn, swearing the blood oath to
the deer Leader, membership in the Patriot Front or tp USA,
that's the textbook.
Speaker 7 (47:18):
Again. We welcome you in the Democratic Party, whoever you may.
Speaker 2 (47:22):
Be, Texas, Texas. We strongly support Holstein's bill. It keeps
people from party flipping for nefarious reasons, for like running
for office.
Speaker 7 (47:31):
I mean, it's your right to run in whichever party
you want to run in. And you know what, if
they want a purity test, let the primary voters decide that.
Let the voters decide, not these party bosses who just
happen to, you know, currently be in the legislature and
have the votes to keep moving the goalposts. You know what,
As the minority party, we have to learn the rules, okay,
(47:53):
and we play by the rules. And they change the
rules on us for candidate recruitment last time, and we
learned the rules. We played by the rules, and we
recruited more candidates really per seat than they did, and
now they didn't like the results of that, so they're
going to move the goalposts yet again. Well, we'll continue
to play by the rules and they can keep changing
the rules.
Speaker 2 (48:12):
Texas, Westervirginia. GOP is stupid to close the primary. Some
of us tried hard to reverse course, but we couldn't
overcome efforts by Governor Morrissey or Jim Butler to keep
it closed.
Speaker 7 (48:22):
Yeah, and you have a mismanaged Executive Committee meeting too.
Speaker 2 (48:25):
Tex says Dave. Asked, Mike, with all the obvious great
things President Trump has done to strengthen this country in
our state, surely yes to have something good to say
about these accomplishments. It's common sense, Mike.
Speaker 7 (48:36):
Well, I mean, if you only think of good things,
I mean they send a letter to the FDA to
reschedule cannabis. Let's see.
Speaker 2 (48:42):
I agree with that.
Speaker 7 (48:45):
During the first term, there was some criminal justice reform
that I agree with. But other than that, I mean,
his poll numbers are dropping for a reason. I think
it's because of the chaos that people are seeing every night,
and instead of bringing the country together at a time
where it really needs a leader. Instead of being a unifier,
he continues to pour gasoline on the fire and people
(49:06):
don't like that.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
Texas Pushkin. Have you heard of the custodian cuts in
Kanaha County? Is anything happening in the legislature to help
with that so children don't have to clean classrooms? May
just be me, but children cleaning classrooms isn't going to
draw parents to the school system.
Speaker 7 (49:22):
I'm looking more into I heard about that last night actually,
and it's something that I'm going to make some phone
calls about. I will say this, though, we've continually had
this Republican legislature make cuts to public education and pull
money out of public education to fund this completely unregulated
Hope Scholarship. I saw these posts last night on a
(49:42):
group it was a Hope Scholarship Facebook page, where they
were telling people how you could spend the money on
extracurricular stuff like horseback riding lessons or travel soccer teams,
like that's what our state dollars are being used for.
And it's pulling money out of public schools, and then
these county school systems are having to make these these uh,
these tough decisions like cutting back on essential staff like that.
(50:04):
So look before the legend, before the session started, the
legislature paid for this this study from the Rand Corporation.
It said we need to put more money into public schools.
It also said we needed to rein in the Hope scholarship.
It needs to be based on means testing. If if
these vouchers are going to the families that really need it,
that's understandable. But instead it's it's subsidizing folks that could
(50:28):
already afford private school and are in some cases they're
using this money for extracurricurricular activities or sending the money
out of state.
Speaker 2 (50:37):
Tex says Dave Trump needs to resign like others that's
had their names in the Epstein files.
Speaker 7 (50:41):
Man up, Yeah, if you look at countries in Europe,
like when they're when these whether it's you know, the
you know, royal family in Great Britain or in other
countries in Europe that they've there's been real consequences.
Speaker 10 (50:54):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (50:54):
Yet, what we have a Treasury Secretary Lutnik right treasures,
who's all over the teen files, and nothing's happening. Trump's
mentioned I believe they think about forty thousand times in
the epistoce. Just because you're mentioning it doesn't mean you
did anything wrong. I mean, forty thousand times. I'm just
saying I'm not a Trump fan either. I'm just saying,
just because you're mentioned, let's find out. Let's open it
(51:15):
up and find out exactly how he's mentioned in there. Okay,
go ahead, Texas kids in Japan cleaned their classrooms. Let's
compare test scores, says the text. Text says Pushkin.
Speaker 2 (51:29):
Just not true. There are more Dims than Republicans. So's
the texture. I think you said there were more Democrats
than Republicans. If you said that, I didn't catch it.
I didn't say there were more Democrats, Okay, I didn't.
I said per seat.
Speaker 7 (51:41):
We've had a better recruiting effort. If you look at
the fact that the Republicans failed to recruit Republicans in
two thirds of the House seats, that they needed to
recruit Republican because they were too busy recruiting against each other,
and Patrick morrisy led an effort to recruit against Republican incumbents.
That's the truth.
Speaker 2 (52:00):
Take Democratic Party chair and Dell to get Mike Pushkin,
get on down to the idea factory.
Speaker 7 (52:05):
Yeah, I just had idea. I didn't say good or bad.
Most of them have been bad. We've had a couple
of good ideas lately, but unfortunately mostly bad. But I'm
on all the way there now.
Speaker 2 (52:13):
Well, good luck put a helmet up, all right? So
