up Today's is the day our man Rob Reel from
her sister station ninety six to one KWS is at
Fountain Play Small and Logan at Logan Bank and Trust
for what we're calling the Playback to Logan Elementary Event. Now,
you'll recall a week ago this past Saturday, there was
a fire at Logan Elementary School and the school was
heavily damaged by smoking water. The students are now attending
(02:07):
Logan Middle School, which is what we Loganites call on
the island. But as you may imagine, there was a
lot of damage and a lot of the Some of
it was replaceable items, some things not. I talked to
one lady who had been a teacher there, and she said,
you can't replace some of the items that her students
had given her, the mementos and things of that nature.
But Rob and kwsh are going to try to replace
(02:27):
some things, collecting things like puzzles, indoor gym equipment, et cetera,
et cetera. Robill explained it to you. He's on site
at Logan Bank of Trust at the Fountain Place, Small

Jason Quintreil and the folks at Union Mission are there too.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
Good morning to you, Dave Haydo.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
I'm fine, Thank you for being so give us your bio.
Tell us all about you.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Well, I'm not exactly from around.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
These here parks. I was going to say, my first
time is going to be you ain't from here, not exactly.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
England was my place love starting, and I didn't come
over to take back independence. I can assure you I've
been in the States for thirty three years. I'm a
naturalized citizen. I've had four sons, the three step sons
and one son that have gone through the entire learning
gambit of the US system. Most of that time I
(03:47):
spent in Illinois. We moved down here four years ago.
My natural son has been at South Charon High for
the past four years. He leaves off to probably going
to Boston to Berkeley College to play his bass. That's
what he wants to do. But we've had an interesting
(04:07):
time going into the system in West Virginia. In Illinois,
we did actually homeschool him for two and a half years.
He was in the system and the system kept letting
him down, and we thought there was a better way
of doing this, and when COVID came up, it was
an ideal time to take him out and actually teach
(04:29):
him ourselves. And we found that we were actually doing
two years or two semesters of schooling in less than
a year, and it was amazing. He was actually two
years ahead of where he should be when he came
down here. That's actually a problem in some ways, to
be quite honest, and I'll talk about those as we
go on, because it basically less to boredom. He's not
(04:53):
where he needs to be, and I think that the system.
One of the biggest problems the system has at the
moment is student boredom. But anyway, as far as I'm concerned,
I now live here in Knar City with my wife Dawn,
and we've got two dogs, a cat, and some chickens
up on the hills up there.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
It's really good.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
I built my career in educational software, became a known
as a leader in online and e learning across the Usa,
actually the Middle East, Europe and Africa, spoken at global
conferences and all sorts of things like that around the world. Actually,
I've owned my own school of performing arts and theater,
taught theater for many years, and I have a paper
(05:33):
that was published in two thousand and nine on the
true value of learning. I've done a lot of things
in training. In fact, my last thirty years in industry
has been associated with learning and basically online learning. But
to do that you have to go through the standard
learning to get there. You can't teach a person to
ride a bike on a television screen. It doesn't work.
(05:56):
So that's my basic, my past and where I am
and why I'm here again with.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Dennis Brown, who is running for a Cana County Board
of Education. Dennis, It's it's no secret that some of
the cuts have been made in personnel to some Knaha
County School employees or as a meeting yesterday. We have
it on the website and information about it. Oh, the
last couple of years, consolidations have been a thing here
in Kanahak County. Tough decisions every time, whether it's comes
to the staff or of the school. How would you
(06:21):
handle all that if you were on the board of education.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
This goes you have to go back to what the
problems are to solve those problems. The first thing is,
I am totally against closing schools. It does not do
any good to anybody. When you take a school out
of a community, you take the community away from the school.
And if you put that school, those people from that
school in another school, there is friction between those two groups.
It always happens. Oh you're not from around these parts,
(06:47):
is what happens.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
So how do you do that?
Speaker 4 (06:51):
Well, first of all, tried looking at ways of actually
repurposing the school that's in that area. It may be
taking off half of the school and using other things.
Put a museum there, put the art gallery there, put
something else there. Maybe even put an adult training center there,
an adult training center for parenting. Wouldn't that be a
good idea, because I think that's one of the things
(07:13):
that's missing in West Virginia. West Virginia has major problems
in lack of parents. To be quite honest, there are
I think it must be eighty percent of my son's
colleagues friends have only one family, one parent families, and
a lot of those are just grandparents. Or even great
grandparents we found the other day who are looking after
(07:33):
the children. That's a major issue and we have to
try and help those people to understand what learning is about.
Understand the other thing that The next thing is drugs. Drugs,
as we know, are the worst in the US here
in West Virginia, and we need to have more detection
and enforcement of drugs and stopping them coming into schools.
(07:58):
Even though a school may say we have a one
hundred percent against drugs, when somebody says I've been seeing
someone smoking something in the bathrooms, not much happens about it.
We need to have some even sniffer dogs going into
the place, bringing in dare the drug advisory actually getting
(08:20):
the police to do it's the police that do that,
which is very good. So we need to speak to
the police. There's a lot of things that we can
do that's not being done. If the thing that I
really don't understand is we say we've got a proficiency
in math of twenty five percent, heare that is terrible,
absolutely horrendous. Forty five percent for English we got thirty
(08:42):
five percent. It's just ludicrous. Math at thirty five percent.
We are trying to build our kids up to go
into the big wide world. They need to have proficiency
in all those things. I'm for the three hours, absolutely
one percent for the three hours reading, writing, brithmetic. Get
them to understand that. Teach them differently. Don't teach them knowledge.
(09:06):
They don't need knowledge. What they need to know is
how to get that knowledge. Especially in this day of
computers and so on, they can get knowledge anywhere. And actually,
my son, I have to say, he knows more about
many things than I do. Many people do, but he
is seventeen years old, and I'm not so that the
point is that we have to teach people. Teach the
(09:26):
kids to learn, not teach them the knowledge. Okay, So
all those things add up to how we stop people
leaving the system, people leaving the state, because if we
get the right knowledge in our people, there'll be the
right people to take the positions that are available in
the state and actually attract people to the state, attract
(09:46):
people for our schools. People do go to places for
the school, make the school the best, and you have
people coming in. Once you've got people coming in, you've
now got other things like entrepreneurialship that takes over and
other jobs that start up so many other are the
things that we need to do. I think our job
as the county board is to get our learning to
(10:07):
a point where it's seventy five percent, like they do it.
A couple of the schools in the state actually have
or in the state have absolutely excellent rates seventy five percent.
Why can't they all be at that? That's Wondercky.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
You know, we're talking to this brown who's running for
Canan County Board of Education, and you kind of reference
this because of the decision you said you at homeschooled
a child. You know, more and more parents than are
choosing options other than quote unquote traditional public schools, you know,
be at private schools, be it charter schools, as you mentioned, homeschooling.
How can the board address that because regardless of how
(10:41):
you feel, it is a big problem. Well, it's it's
an obstacle to certain things, I'll put it that way,
because you have less and less students, which is why
you see schools closing.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
How do you address the hundred percent one hundred percent agree?
Why are they choosing other schools? It's not because they exist.
They're not choosing other schools because they're rich people and
it's not that that's not a reason for them going.
They're choosing other schools because other schools teach them better.
That is the only reason they go to other schools.
There's no other reason. None. The only reason we homeschooled
(11:12):
our son we did not want to be taught online
with the bad online tools that they were using. And
I happen to know a bit about that. So the
fact is we need to get the education up. Forget
about all of the other things of money and so on.
Get the education up and you will have people stay.
(11:33):
In fact, you'll have people do more. You have more
people volunteer. My wife, I've volunteered down at South Charlton.
My wife volunteered her in Illinois. The only volunteer if
you think that there's a reason for doing it, and
the reason for doing it is to add to the
education of your children. So I'm totally very concerned about
(11:55):
the numbers and how we banner headline banner the eye
idea of forty five proficiency in English? Great, where's the
seventy five percent? And that's the thing we've got to do. Now,
that's an education thing. You've got to see what that means.
I'm against teaching toward the standardized test. That's not how
(12:16):
you teach people at all. That's how you teach people
how to take a test. Who cares about that? What
does it do for the kid? What does the child say?
Why am I here? What's the purpose of me learning?
I'm going to be going out and buying vegetables? How
does the standardized test help me do that? I've got
to change a tire on the car? How do I
(12:37):
do that? How does this math help me in my
everyday life?
Speaker 2 (12:43):
I could go to.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
College and what they teach and actually say, how much
of your college have you used? After college? You might
be better? I don't know you did communications or something
else you're using. It's great, I did computer science, math
and physics. If you used it, But could I say
I remember any of it?
Speaker 5 (13:03):
No?
Speaker 4 (13:04):
Can I say that it did me any good? No,
didn't do me any good at all. In fact, I
went into online training courses. Where did that come in? Well,
the computer science, I suppose helped, the math sort of
might have helped, and so on. How do we actually
move forward as a job. Bring back such things as mechanics,
(13:27):
mode mechanics, bring back home economics, bring back how do
I balance my checkbook? That sort of stuff. Teach people
what they're going to need when they get out in
the big pie world.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
How's the campaign gone so far?
Speaker 4 (13:38):
It's actually going really well. I'm actually amazed at the
number of people are coming forward and saying you're the
person for us. And it's only because I'm talking about
the sense of matter of training and learning and not
talking about how we do better in the board. I
don't care about how well the board does. I do
care about how well the board does for the learning,
(13:59):
and that's a thing. So don't bang the drama about
how wonderful things are when you're at such a low
proficiency rate in the most important things that people who
need to know the I've got a few number this week.
I've got four different talking sessions and different companies and
different areas. I'm really pleased to be on your show. Actually,
(14:22):
this is a wonderful place to be, I have to say.
Speaker 6 (14:25):
So.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
The biggest problem is finance, to be quite honest, If
anything else, I mean that's so, if you've got any
dollars hanging, okay, just thick them out.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
This is a radio station. We get in it for
the fun of the T shirt. That's that's why we
do it.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
I haven't seen the T shirt yet.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
So anyway, well, I've been here six years. I'm waiting
long one. How's that now? I'm kidding. We have one.
We just circulated around. You have a you have a
website or social media.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
Which everything associated with me comes under D Brown for
the number four kb oe. Okay, so my website is
at www dot k D Brown four kboe dot com.
It's like, you know, that's that's all you need to
write in. Anything else that's Instagram and Facebook, they all
(15:11):
come under at d Brown four kboe.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Final thirty Dennis, Why should someone vote for you for
knarky Aunty Board of Education?
Speaker 4 (15:19):
Because I'm for you. I'm not for anybody else. I'm
for the parents and the children. I want to make
this the best place to go for learning. The West
Virginia people are amazing, but they don't know it. They
(15:42):
don't know it. When Cole was taken away from them,
what did they have left? They have them. They are
the hardiest people.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
You got this. I can tell you. I can tell
you're emotional, like I.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
Can tell yeah, I'm I'm not emotional.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
No, I am it's the light.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
Sorry, the lights are too bright in here and they're
doing But basically I am I'm for the people. Call me,
tell me what you want, what you need, I'll be there.
What I can give you is what I can get
from the Canar County Board. Okay, And I am pretty
good in negotiating with people. I've been negotiating for my
(16:24):
entire life. Million dollar contracts is nothing to me. I
am a personal person, believe it or not. I don't
usually burst. I don't usually burst into tears. I'm sorry,
you know.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
That's what it is. It's on head, yes, but there
you are.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
That's what I'm doing for you.

are one of our sister stations here in the building
is live on location at Logan Bank and Trust found
(20:23):
to play Small and Logan because, as you know, Logan
Elementary School who told you the story. Logan Elementary School,
which if you're familiar at all with Logan is on
Middleburg Island what we just called the island. Logan High School,
Logan Middle School, and Logan Elementary School all there. A
week ago, this past Saturday, there was a fire at
Logan Elementary School. Luckily no staff was there. It happened
(20:44):
on a Saturday morning, but there was a lot of damage,
a lot of water, a lot of smoke, things of
that nature. So you can imagine what that's like to
try to clean up, and they lost a lot of stuff.
That school itself has been there since I'm going to
guess some time of the nineteen fifties. Talk to one teacher,
as I mentioned at the top of the show, that
had been a teacher there for thirty years, and imagine
(21:06):
imagine what you collect in your office if you've worked
somewhere more than ten years. Okay, now, imagine being a
teacher when at the end of the year, every student
wants to give you something. Well, all that was lost,
that stuff can't be replaced, but what can be replaced
are things like books and puzzles and things of that nature.
They got a lot of damage from what I understand,
(21:27):
to indoor recreational equipment, think about jump ropes and kickballs
and things like that. So Rob's down there at Logan
Bank of Trust, which if you're getting on one nineteen
corrid or g and you're heading down south, you can't
miss it. Before you get well before you get into
the quote unquote city of Logan. It's on the left
hand side of the road if you're heading southbound, you'll
(21:48):
see the big lbn T side. It's in the mall
where Walmart, bob Evans and all the other places are there.
Rob started at eight o'clock this morning down there collecting
these items for the students and staff at Logan Elementary School. Now,
as I mentioned earlier, the school itself is not allowed
to accept cash donations, okay, but Union Mission can. And
(22:12):
you know Jason Quintrell and the folks from Union Mission,
we've had them on from time to time with different
events that they've done. Rob made a simple phone call Adjason,
and I think Jason's comment was when do we leave
and so they started at eight o'clock this morning at
the Logan Bank of Trust location at Fountain Play, Small
in Logan, collecting these items. And the great thing about
(22:33):
being able to accept cash. We don't touch the cash. Okay,
folks with the school system, don't touch the cash. Jason
Quintrell gets the cash, he's got the buying power. He
can go over and there there's a Walmart there, there's
a dollar Tree there, there's all these different stores that
are there. They can go directly over there and buy
some of this stuff, or if folks are down in
that area none, We have a lot of listeners down
(22:55):
in that area. If you want to go to those
places and buy those things, you certainly can and just
drop them off. And if you can't make it down there,
you can drop off items here at our studio eleven
eleven Virginia Street East and Charleston and will make sure
that they get And we had several folks that drop
by some items yesterday. We appreciated. And again, you know,
primarily what we are looking for are are things like
(23:19):
as I said, puzzles, jump ropes, books, you know, just
just easily easy things and things you don't have to
spend a whole lot of money on. So Rob's down there,
we're going to attempt to check in with Rob. He's
actually on the air a Superstar Country ninety six one
kws right now, so we're going to kind of get
(23:39):
him in between breaks from there. Big shout out though
to the folks at Logan Bank and Trust for making
this possible, because when one of our staff members came
up with this idea, we just simply put a phone
call into my old buddy Gary Wilson of Logan Bank
and Trust and he said, look, we're in. And so
a big shout out to them in Union mission as well.
I understand we have Rob Reel on the line right now,
(24:02):
Sir Roberts, how are things going in La?
Speaker 11 (24:05):
Thanks are going very well. I was actually talking with Gary,
which is what happens not paying attention to where the
clock is. So we're here until noon Logan Bank and
Trust Corridor G and we are gathering up these items
for play. We've had some sidewalk chalk, we've had some
sports ball, some building blocks. We're going until noon today.
(24:26):
List is on the ninety six to one KAUS Facebook page.
I know Dave has shared it lots of folks have
been sharing it, and Union Mission is here and this
is something I want to I want to outline. Because
the school can't take direct financial contributions, Jason and Brian
Union Mission, we're quick to step up and say, hey,
we we have a process. We have a safe, secure,
(24:50):
accountable donation process that if folks want to give a
cash or check donation, we can make that part of
our emergency fund and then we will buy things on
the list out of that emergency fund. So your contribution
is still going exactly where you want it to go.
And because you know they have all of the accounting procedures,
you can see you can be certain that that's going
(25:12):
to happen.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
And again I want to say a big thank you,
know telling the listeners rob to our friends at Union Mission,
because all we have to do is put a call
or text into Jason Quintrell and he's like we ride
at dawn or something like that. He's ready to go.
Speaker 11 (25:27):
It was phenomenal when I called him about as if
he knew what I was calling about, because he started
the conversation with just tell me when and where, and
I hadn't even pitched the idea of what we were.
Speaker 9 (25:41):
Going to do.
Speaker 11 (25:42):
That's how important this relationship is for us. They are
as committed as we are to helping our friends and neighbors.
They are just as proud to live here too.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
Indeed, again we're talking with Rob Real from our sister
station ninety six one Superstar Country KWS. He's on on
the lot right now of Logan Bank and Trust the
Fountain Place all locations. I want to make sure people
realize it's the Fountain Place, small location, because they've got
you know, four or five different branches down there. But
this is this is the one that is on one nineteen.
It's a straight shot from Charleston. If you happen to
be going down that way, looking at forty five minutes,
(26:13):
maybe even forty five minutes to an hour, if you're
Rob Real, twenty minutes, you know to get there in
truck Norris the KWS truck, and they're on site. You have,
as I said, you've got Walmart, you've got Dollar Tree,
you've got Bills, you've got all these different there's twenty
twenty five different businesses there. At found a place small
and I'm sure you could probably find something just about
(26:35):
any of them that would help out. And if you
need helping what to get just stop by talk to Rob,
Gary or Jason. They'll tell you what it is that
we are looking for and you can go over and
get it, or you can just give Jason Quintrail the cash.
And when we reached out to a couple teachers that
and I know that the community not just not just
Logan County, Rob, but surrounding counties. There's schools in Kanaw
(26:57):
County that have reached out down there to Logan Elementary County,
other places Boone County and said what can we do
to help? These teachers and the staff are very very
appreciative because it's what West Virginians do, Rob.
Speaker 11 (27:08):
West Virginians take care of West Virginians. And there's I
mean there's a little bit of the butt for the
grace of God go I sort of situation. This could
happen in any sort of community, in any school, and
so we we take care of our friends and neighbors.
There are so many places that you could pick up
something here at Fountain Plaza, or if you're just running
through the bank, we can we can take care of
(27:30):
you that way as well. Maybe this is a good
opportunity how dare I suggest you play hooky as our
friend like Stone is walking up? How dare I suggest
you play hooky? But there are lots of places you
could get coffee and breakfast, and while you're doing that,
you could you could make a donation. Let's get the
play back to Logan Elementary.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
That's the whole plan in the game. We've got information
available on the Superstar Country ninety six one KWS Facebook page.
I've got it on Dave Allen Radio. You can go
there and check it out to And I want to
give a big shout out to the folks at Logan
Bank and Truest. I have known Gary Wilson, the guy
you're dealing with there, literally since we were kids. It's
southern West Virginia. My grandparents lived beside his family growing up.
(28:09):
He so Gary and I have known each other for
a long long time. And I'll say this about Logan
Bank of Trust. I opened up my first account at
Loganbank of Trust when I got my first paycheck when
I was seventeen years old. I went straight to Eddie Canterbury,
then president of Logan Bank of Trust, and open up
my account and I have continued to do business with
them this day. They are fantastic people, locally owned and
(28:30):
operated and they just jump right in and help out
with not just this rob but anything they can. They're
all about community down there.
Speaker 11 (28:38):
Well, and Gary is the pride of man. And you
two have known each other so long. You've known each
too when man was still called boy. That's how long
you two have known one another. And it's those kinds
of relationships. I've lived literally all over the world, folks,
and there is nothing like the way West Virginians take
care of West Virginians.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Yep, You're absolutely right. And if look, if people want
to drop off things here at our studios, if it's
more convenient eleven eleven Virginia Streets and Charleston, Tracy would
be glad to accept those. And we'll get him down
through Jason. We'll get him through Tiffany and through Hillary
and all the folks that at the school down there.
All Right, the question I got asking, I know you're
gonna go back on the air, so I'm gonna let
I'm gonna let you go is if you heard any
(29:16):
good Dave Allen stories while you're down there.
Speaker 11 (29:20):
Well, I've heard some interesting day.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
All Right, we'll leave it at that and say hello
to my buddy the rock, Mike Stone. Okay, absolutely, all right, Rob,
appreciate it man, we'll talk soon. Thanks a lot, Thank you,
Rob Real from our sister station ninety six to one KWS.
And again he's posted up at the Fountain Place, small
location of Logan Bank and Trust. And basically, if you
joined us late, what happened was a week Aldgo Saturday,
(29:44):
there was a fire at Logan Elementary School and a
lot of things. The building was not a total loss,
it's a total loss.
Speaker 7 (29:51):
For this year.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Those kids aren't gonna be going back, probably till the fall.
So they've made room for them at Logan Middle School,
which is in the same basic location. If you're familiar
with Logan and at all, it's on Middleburg Island, next
to the high school. Got the three schools there on
the island, and they're transferring the kids from the elementary
school over to the middle school. And they just lost
so many things there, and again many of them can't
(30:14):
be replaced. Okay, I completely understand that, but we're doing
what we can't. Puzzles, jump ropes. We had a request
from mister potato Heads. All right, mister potato heads. Old
people like me are still a thing, and they teach
motor skills and things the other things that I don't have.
So those sorts of things you can drop those off
as well, and you can do cash if you want. Now,
(30:37):
if you can't make it down there and you want
to do cash, you can go to the website we
feed people dot org and that's the website of Union
Mission and you can do your donations there. Again, the
folks at the elementary school cannot accept cash. That's why
we call it in our Buddy Jason and Union Mission,
because they can and they can go get the things
(30:58):
that the students they're asking. Complete lists available of what
we're looking for. Dave Allen Radio and Facebook and also
the ninety six to one Superstar Country KWS Facebook page
as well. Rob is going to be there until noon
today broadcasting live and Gary Wilson to folks at LBNT
stopped up and said stopped up and said we want
to help as well, So get an opportunity. Either if
(31:21):
you're heading down that way, stop and see Rob. It's
at Fountain Place Mats where Walmart and everything else is
in Logan, or you can drop by items here at
our studios. If you want eleven eleven Virginia s treat
East and Charleston doesn't have to be anything major. A
couple of you know, a basketball would be fine, A nerd,
a couple of nerve footballs, crayons, you know, coloring books,
book just basic basic stuff that kids need, all right,
(31:44):
because they they lost a lot. If you've ever gone
through a fire, you know the damage that comes with
smoking water. And the school is going to be fine,
but it's probably going to be the fall before the
school reopens again. So the kids are taking care of
they're getting their edumacation at the other one of the
other schools there on Middleburg Island. But appreciate greatest listeners
in the world for stepping up. As I said, several
(32:05):
people already stopped by WVRC Media studios here at eleven
eleven Virginia Streats Charleston and so big shout out to
Rob for organizing this thing, and also Gary Wilson and
the fine folks of Logan Bank of Trust, and also
Jason and the folks at Union Mission. Rob will be
there till noon today. But Dave Island Show in five

down at Logan Bank of trust helping out Logan Elementary School.
I got word that the Ladies of the Vulgar Motorcycle
Club here in Charleston made a pretty large donation to
the efforts at Logan Elementary School. Let me read you
the message I got from them late Friday, sent to
(37:11):
my Facebook page, Dave Allen Radio. It said, Hey guy,
praying all is well, All is going well with you?
We wanted to let you know that the Valkyries Ladies
Club based in Charleston made a sizable school supplied donation
to Logan Grade School following the fire. In your honor,
since you said that's where you're from, praying for you
(37:33):

and thank you ladies so much. And I'm sure the
staff and the kids at Logan Elementary School feel the
same way that having been set an update for you
you didn't ask, but an update on the hill front
for me, which is why those fine ladies with the
Walkers did what they did, although they may have probably
(37:55):
done it anyway because that's the kind of group that
they are. I will be away from the show Thursday
as I will have some sort of a procedure done
bright nearly Thursday morning at six am to get me
ready for radiation treatments for cancer, which will start soon.
I will spare you the details of what they're doing
to me Thursday. It's an outpatient procedure. I plan on
(38:15):
trying to be here at least towards the end of

I'm doing it because they told me I couldn't, you know,

machine gun legislation rat tat tat its way through the
West Virginia Senate. Oh, Brad. He also goes on to say, quote,
it's a proposal that captured public imagination like a blast
in quotes one of the proponents of that proposed bill,
(40:28):
which and I'm trying to wrap my head around the
whole thing all right. Basically, from what I understand, there
is a law called the Hughes Law, and it has
to do with the regulation of machine guns in West Virginia.
You could have machine guns prior that were made. I
think it was prior to eighteen eighty six, I think,
but not after. And some folks in the legislature are
(40:51):
working with some outside groups to try to make it
so the state police basically would be where the guns
em and eh, going forward. I actually had a gentleman
by the name of Alex Shay who's very involved in
this effort that actually called. We tried to get someone
on to talk about I know the talk line guys
did yesterday too, and Alex just happened to be listening
(41:13):
to Metro News midday during open line West Virginia yesterday
and just called up to talk about him. So I
appreciate him listening because he said he was a fan

A texture text says the state is living in a
culture war so hard that the legislature trying to retroactively

ban rocky horror shows at Cinema seventh from the nineteen eighties.
It's the text. I don't know whether that is true
or not, but it does.
Speaker 16 (45:39):
What is it?
Speaker 2 (45:40):
It's the I don't know that it's true, but it
might be kind of a thing. I don't know. But
and look, I've talked to several legislators on the show
over the years, and they have pointed out to me
when I go off on one of my little tangents
about things that we're focusing on under the dumb they said, well,
you know, we can do more than one thing at once,
which is absolutely true, and that's a fair argument. But
(46:03):
now I'm reading about adult cabarets and more stuff with
dressing rooms, which I'm gonna say, it does seem to
me that not all, but some some Republicans seem to
have a strange fascination with locker rooms and dressing rooms.
(46:24):
Just saying stilling it out there. So I hope that
for my friends of a legilature, I hope that while you're,
you know, spending little time at least discussing this. Don't
know whether I've ever actually come to the floor or not,
I hope that you can maybe go down to McDowell
County and tell the people or a Wayne County that
are dealing with these water issues and just say Hey,
(46:46):
we're We're working on drag queens for you. We're working

you that people are driving more crazy? I was noticing
that yesterday as I was driving into work early laest day.
We when even driving home yesterday evening, the number of
people that pull out in front of people and people
that run red lights is just incredible to me. I
(47:28):
just see it seems like it's getting worse.
Speaker 1 (47:30):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (47:30):
I don't know. Maybe it's just me. Maybe you've noticed
it too, I don't, just things things I noticed real quick.
And then we'll go over to the boys of the
Capital of the Lastnight City Council and of course Mayor
Goodwin kind of gave us a preview on the show yesterday.
They talked about extending the lease with the ballpark and
(47:51):
for the Charleston Dirty Birds, the Charleston the Charleston Professional
Baseball Company, which is the parent company of the Dirty
Birds baseball team. They've basically extended their lease to the
end of this season because the city and I'm sure
the Dirty Birds, having interviewed Andy Shay and Joe Garrett
and others with the Dirty Birds many times, I'm sure
they want to continue to play ball there, so that
least got extended. They got to look at doing some
(48:14):
They got to look at doing some upgrades at the
I mean, you can remember that ballpark's twenty years old, Okay,
so they've got to look at doing some upgrades to
the park. So that was discussed, among other things at
Charleston City Council last night. We got complete stories posted
about it WV Metronews dot com. Tex says Donald is
doing a number on the stock market. I wish I
had money to buy index funds with how low they're going,
(48:35):
looking like the Dow is going way south of fifty thousand. Now,
let's release the unreducted Epstein files, say as the Texter,
let us go to the West Virginia State Capitol where
we have Wilson and Meadows stopping by. How you doing
Feller's Feller Meadows is somewhere in the Capitol.
Speaker 16 (48:55):
I have no idea where he went to.
Speaker 1 (48:56):
So you got me?

Okay, your favorite person? I am your You are my

Coach stare, did do you want me to come over
and sign that for you? I wish you would. I
really wish you would. I really wish you would, because
nobody draws an X like Dave Wilson does. All right,
(49:19):
what you guys doing today?
Speaker 16 (49:21):
Well, Senator Joey Garcia is going to stop by. We're
going to make him read Bill's word for word for
the next two hours here on the program, we will
talk about Rayley's Law, his passion for that, and that
is actually going to be moving over on the House
side of things. Also, Amy Grady will be stopping by.
The Senate Education Committee Chair Hoppy is in the building today.
(49:42):
He was honored in the House of Delegates prior to
the floor session this.
Speaker 2 (49:46):
Morning, so we'll do that.
Speaker 16 (49:47):
Brad McElhenny, he is up in the House Finance Committee
this morning where they were discussing the possibility of wait
for a tax cut. So we got a lot to
cover here this morning on the program.
Speaker 2 (49:59):
That's kind of cool. Hoppy was given recognition in the house.
Speaker 3 (50:02):
Was it the house?
Speaker 2 (50:03):
Is what you said?
Speaker 11 (50:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 16 (50:04):
House of dellic It's got a citation. It's also montague
A County Day at the Capitol.
Speaker 3 (50:08):
So uh.
Speaker 16 (50:09):
I don't know if that was a happy accident or
do they plan it that way, but they honored montague
A County, honored Hoppy and his years of broadcasting experience
broadcasting here at the capitol. So yeah, yeah, and he's
going to join us a second second.
Speaker 2 (50:21):
Wonder what they said about Hoppy. You probably weren't able
to listen to it. I wouldn't imagine you were probably busy.
Speaker 16 (50:26):
But uh, they said, please come back and get these
two knuckleheads out of here.
Speaker 2 (50:31):
I believe it's what they comes knucklehead number two. I
recognize that.
Speaker 16 (50:34):
Lad.
Speaker 7 (50:37):
You know, just when I think I'm starting to like
you and I have a report, you go and do
something like that. We have to start all over it.
Speaker 2 (50:44):
Well, what we have in common, Meadows, in addition to
our southern West Virginia lineage, is that we both hate
Dave Wilson, So we got that going.
Speaker 7 (50:53):
For the record, I do not hate my broadcast partner
Dave Willis.
Speaker 2 (50:56):
I'm kidding. I don't hate him as much as I
used to. But you know, Rob Real from our sister
station TJ is down in the belly down in southern
West Virginia right now. He's down the Logan Banking Trust
at the found the place Mallel Logan, collecting items for
Logan Elementary School where they had that fire last week,
Union mission, helping that out. So I'm told Rob, I said,
(51:17):
while you're down there, you gotta make it a point
to run to Morrison's and get a hot dog. So
I'm hoping he'll take me up on it. A good
guy would bring a few bank for you. A good
guy of Morrison's hot dogs would bring about twenty back
for us. Because that's like an onion rings and onion rings.
We need to take Wilson down there sometime to Morrison's
and then give him a few a real Southern West
Virginia culinary experience teach you know what.
Speaker 7 (51:40):
I got to take him over to East End Pub
for some hot dogs. Oh yeah, done that, I told
him last year. I forgot we got to do that
before sessions out.
Speaker 2 (51:46):
Yeah, no, I'd like to go too, but I'm on
the air from New to three, so you guys will
bringing something the back. All right, guys, have fun there today.
We'll be listening to ten oh six thanks to Live.
