Angie Gillenwater from the Cannaal Charleston Humaine Association with this
(03:11):
week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Good morning, Angie.
Speaker 5 (03:15):
Good morning. Why's from New Jersey the Adopt Me Please
pet of the Week.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
So why are you in New Jersey?
Speaker 5 (03:23):
So there is a pet cot in Middletown, New Jersey
that has a whole adoption center in it. So I
transported some of West Virginia's finest brown dogs up here
to be adopted and infiltrate New Jersey.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
They need a little bit more West Virginia culture there
in Jersey.
Speaker 5 (03:40):
Right, correct, they do?
Speaker 2 (03:42):
All right? So I've never been to New Jersey. Okay,
just so you know, I've never been there. However, I've
got friends that are from New Jersey and they tell
me that Jersey cuisine is actually pretty good. For the
pizzas and the subs and so on and so forth.
Have you had any anything good to eat since you've
been there?
Speaker 5 (03:58):
I have been eating great every day that I've been here.
I've been here since Monday, and I'm kind of like
I miss home, but I do not miss the food
from home.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Are what's the best thing you've had? What's the best
thing you've had?
Speaker 5 (04:09):
We had a pretty good I don't know what Jersey
does for their bagels, but we had a pretty good
breakfast that The bagels were just out of this world.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
All right, it sounds good. I do love I do
love a good bagel. All right, let's get to this week.
Sodop me please bet of the week from the Cannaw
Charsty Main Association. His name is Captain Hook. As always.
Picture posted Dave Allen Radio on Facebook at Dave A
seventy on xton on the WCCHS network Facebook page, tell
us Angie about Captain Hook.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
So Captain Hook came to Kha with his mom and
his litter mates. They are all still available for adoption.
They were just strays that were dumped on some lady.
She got him to us. We got everybody vaccinated, six
D worms, D FLEAD and microchip. So he is ready
to go home as soon as you say yes. But
(04:58):
I don't know how much I can say about a
puppy because they're puppies, they're resties with everybody. They fit
for just about every lifestyle.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
So what kind of dog is it?
Speaker 5 (05:10):
So he West Virginia brown dogs. I would say it's
probably like a retriever mix of sorts. His mom certainly
favors like a retriever type of look, so we'll just
go with that.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Do I want to ask why you named the dog
Captain Hook?
Speaker 5 (05:25):
So they are all named So mom's name is Meggan
the Stallion, and they're all named after make the Stallion songs.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
Okay, all right, one day you'll explain to me what
or who a Meg thee Stallion is?
Speaker 5 (05:38):
Right, I don't know if you want to find out,
all right?
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Captain Hook's picture again posted Dave Island Radio and Facebook,
also the WHS network Facebook page and at Dave seventy
on x Angie. Tickets are still on sale for Texas
and Tails Saturday night, April twenty fifth, seven o'clock at
jq Dickets and Saltworks and Malden. But they are going quickly, They.
Speaker 5 (06:00):
Are going quickly. We're selling more and more each day.
I know last week you heard me say over half
of the tickets had been sold. I think we're reaching
like the seventy five percent mark, So definitely get them
if you plan on coming to Texas and tails get
them as thin as possible.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Talking with Angie Gilman Water again from the Gonnal Charleston
Humaine Association with Dave Allen Shell on five eighty Live,
brought to you in part by Morgan and Morgan, America's
largest injury law firm. And how are the numbers looking
at the shelter, Angie, So we are.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
Filling up very quickly on puppies, which is crazy because
typically puppies get it opted pretty quickly. Puppies are full,
adult dogs are full. Cats are still manageable. So keep
it opting the cats and just go ahead and pick
up an adult dog and a puppy while you're there
as well.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
And I will want to make sure too that people
realize and you and I talk about this every week.
I mean, you need you want people to adopt these
lovely dogs, cats, whatever other critters you have up there,
like people to consider it to be fosters. Okay, but
sometimes if you could just and especially now that the
weather is getting better, if you could just volunteer your
time to say I want to come up and play
(07:05):
with the dogs, or take a dog or two out
for a date for the day to a park, or
even if you walk them around up there. Whatever. Those
kinds of volunteers Angie can can do so much to help.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
Absolutely. I understand being at like max capacity for pests,
and I also understand not every living situation will allow
for pets in the home, which is why volunteering is
such an important way to help us. Like you said,
you mentioned a couple great ways to volunteer. If you
don't want to get out, if you don't want to
be you know, on your feet all day and active,
we have activities up at the shelter you can help
(07:39):
us out with, like prepping enrichment for the dogs, which
you know helps their mental health. It's required every day
for one hundred and some dogs in our care, so
we can certainly use help with that. And if you
don't have the spare time to volunteer, which I completely
understand too as someone who's pretty busy, donating supplies that
we need. Alls is extremely helpful for.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Us, and I was very happy a couple of days
ago when I did the show on Wednesday, I had
Tim Brady from the Charleston CVB on and Tim was
talking about the upcoming bike event which will be this
June in Charleston, and among the charities that are going
to be helping out are you folks at CANA Charleston
New Main Association. So I thought that was really really
good news.
Speaker 5 (08:22):
Yes, we look forward to that event every year. It's
always really fun to see everyone like rolling in with
their supplies. So we love that event and it's always
really good day at the shelter. We get stocked up
on supplies and usually everyone will hang around and say
hi to the sheltered dogs and cats.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
We had a text here said are you folks in
need of anything extra since it's kitten season again?
Speaker 5 (08:44):
Kitten season anyway, Sorry, it just took my breath away.
So Lenen's are always great. Heating pads, kitten formula, kitten
food like wet food, hard food. And then also you
wouldn't think of about it, but like very small, teeny
tiny little bottles. We use those for kittens but you know,
(09:05):
maybe don't have a mama. Also, scales, thermometers, pretty much
any type of medical supplies we will use during the
upcoming kitten season.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
You guys out and about anywhere this weekend. I know
you're in New Jersey, but I mean the rest of
the team out anywhere.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
The rest of the team is not out because I'm
in New Jersey.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Oh okay, I got you, I got you, I got you?
All right, Angie? As always, how long are you going
to be up there? Are you're gonna come back and
join us at some point? Right forever?
Speaker 5 (09:31):
Actually right? I don't think I could stay up here forever. Anyways,
I will be on my way home this afternoon, so
hopefully by nightfall I'll be back in West Virginia.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
All right, all right, Angie, Well go grab a bagel
if you would for me. I like I like the bagels, uh,
with the with the cream cheese, or I like the
everything bagels. You're seeing everything bagel. Just have one and
think of me.
Speaker 6 (09:53):
Okay, I absolutely will, all right.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Angie gelling Water Canaw Charleston main association with this week's
Adopt Me Please of the Week. It's Captain Hook is
our dog this week. He's about two months old, and
I understand what Angie's saying. It's hard to place a
personality yet on a two month old dog. I mean
because their personality is still forming classic WESTERNINGI and brown dog.
(10:16):
Maybe a little bit of a Retriever in him. Good
looking dog. He's already neutered, he's already vaccinated, he is
already de wormed, and he is ready to go. It
is a beautiful, beautiful dog. I've got his picture posted
Dave Island Radio on Facebook, also the WCCHS network Facebook
page and at Dave eight seventy on X. Let's go
and let's try to get Captain Hook a home. Beautiful
(10:37):
beautiful dog. And I'll say this too, that when we
do these features every week, sometimes the folks at the
shelter are so busy. I tried to stay in contact
with him a couple times a week, but it doesn't
always work out that way. If you are one of
the folks that has adopted one of the of the
animals that we've featured on the Adoption, please put it

Welcome back to the show nine twenty one and I
appreciate producer Ryan Nicholson, the senior producer Cindy me information
on Megan thee Stallion. There you go, I'd actually heard
of Megan the Stallion, Okay, but I hear these things
in passing because you know you're walking down the hall here,
we got our different stations in the building. By the way,
let me just say this, come Monday, I'm not going
to do Jimmy Buffett, I promise, but come Monday, there
(14:12):
are some big time changes happening to one of our
stations here in the building. I'll tell you more about
a little bit later, but I think you're going to
like it. And that is happening on Monday. But anyway,
I walk through the halls here and I hear people
talking about certain artists. If it came, if it happened
after nineteen ninety two, chances all right, I don't know it,
but I had heard the word of Megan the Stallion.
(14:33):
So that's our adopt me please part of the week. Apparently,
Captain Hook is a song by Megan thee Stallion. I
learned that from Angie today and from Ryan, Thank you
so much. Twenty fourth Annual West Virginia Fishing, Hunting and
out Door Sports Show happening tomorrow and Sunday, Miland Park
and Morgantown, presented by can Am Kelly. One of the
ladies I've dubbed is the Fun Girls along with Rachelle
joins us now to talk about it. Good morning, Welcome
(14:55):
to the show.
Speaker 6 (14:57):
Good morning, Dave. I'm sorry you're getting the lesser half
of the d.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
Not at all.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
I'm gonna have both of you, I think. I think
today on Metro News midday around twelve thirty, we're gonna
try to have both of you on there.
Speaker 6 (15:07):
Yeah, we'll both be on this.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Do we have really since I gave you all that
name a couple of years ago, The Fun Girls. I
need to get with my man Steve Animal here in
the building and get some T shirts made, some glittery
T shirts that said the Fun Girls.
Speaker 6 (15:21):
Absolutely we would wear them with pride.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
All right. So you got your last minute planning going
on right now, and I know it's a busy, busy time.
I appreciate you taking time at our schedule to join
us talk overall about this huge events. What's new this year?
Speaker 6 (15:37):
So this year is our twenty fourth annual Fishing, Hunting,
Outdoor Sports Show, and it is what it says. It
is everything outdoors. It's not just fishing, it's not just hunting,
it's not just outdoor sports. It's all of it combined.
And so we try to make that into a big
family event because we don't want you to come without
your family thinking it's not for them, because there's literally
(15:58):
something for everyone here.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
And I think with the winter Kelly that we've had,
people are just dying to get outside right now, or
get anywhere for that matter.
Speaker 6 (16:06):
Absolutely, I was dying. I'm dying to get outside right now.
So yeah, we got vendors moving in right now. And
you know, it's it's very nice. It's not raining yet,
but the weather has warmed up, and we just want
everybody to get excited about going back outside.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
And you know, this is this event happens in Morgantown,
and I had a chance to attend a couple of
years in a row, and I was surprised at because
you think about, Okay, well this is that's in Morgantown, Okay,
and you think it's going to be a northern West
Virginia thing. I was totally shocked when I got up
there and I saw so many people from the Charleston area.
I saw so many people from Beckley that I knew.
(16:44):
I saw so many people from all over southern West
Virginia that I knew as well. People make the trip
for this thing.
Speaker 6 (16:50):
Oh, absolutely, they come from all over the country. We
have people coming down from Canada. We have people from
South Africa coming, so we just have people from all over,
but we really do represent our state well here. We
have lots of local vendors, so we want you to
come show them some love.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
And it's at Myland Park in Morgantown, which if you
haven't had an opportunity to visit, that is a wonderful facility.
Speaker 6 (17:11):
It is, and it's ginormous and we have every square
inch filled with stuff for anybody.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
And that's over one hundred thousand square feet we're talking about, Okay,
so that's a lot of square footage, yes.
Speaker 6 (17:23):
And they are packing it in now. I'm just watching
vendor after vendor walk through our door, getting ready for
everybody to come see us this weekend.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
And what are your hours there tomorrow and Sunday.
Speaker 6 (17:33):
On Saturday we start at nine, we close at seven,
and on Sunday we start at nine and we close
down at four.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
And I do want to give you a little programming
note here. Chris Lawrence, we'll be doing West Virginia Outdoors
live from there tomorrow morning's seven oh six, and then
he's going to do an expanded live broadcast from ten
until noon on our sister station in Morgantown, WAJR be
a great time to our mind folks, Kelly to download
the WVRC Media app and that way all of our
stations are on there, so you can actually, you know,
(18:00):
you can hear the normal show, but you can also
hear Chris live on WAJR. He does a similar thing
when we have the Hounting and Fishing show here in
Charleston here on WCCHS, but he's doing this one on WAJR.
And so you may want to download that WVRC Media
app and that way you can listen to everything up there.
We're talking to Kelly again about the Westernian Fishing, Hunting
and Outdoor Sports Show presented by can AM tomorrow and
(18:22):
Sunday at Miland Park in Morgantown. What's your YEA, I
know it's asking people like like ask you what's your
favorite kid? But I mean one or two or three
of the highlights for you every year.
Speaker 6 (18:33):
So last year we started the kid's fishing pond and
the kids absolutely loved it. Yeah, I lie a little bit.
I say that kids loved it. I saw adults over
there fishing, so everybody loved the fishing pond. We have
upgraded that area this year. I can't wait for everybody
to see it. And again, you come, you catch a
(18:54):
golden trout, you want a ten dollars I hop gift cards,
so it's a win win. So that's one of my favorites.
Another favorite is we got a local pickle guy. I
know the Charleston show has a pickle guy. I'm sure
he's fabulous, but we have Monty and he has the
best pickles. He has sold out here year after year
and he's had to go get more. So he's one
of my favorite vendors to come in. And you know what,
(19:17):
I really love all of our vendors. I get to
talk to everybody, and really there's just no bad booth here.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
And again, well maybe we'll have a North versus South
pickle war between the two hunting and fishing shows. But now,
if I'm correct, I think our pickle person in Charleston,
I think is from Pennsylvania. I think because I remember
a couple of years ago they ran out and had
to drive back to Pennsylvania and come back, So you.
Speaker 6 (19:39):
Know there must be something in the water. Our guys
from Pennsylvania too pickles.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
I mean one wouldn't think, and there's always food items
available with these shows. You wouldn't think food would be
that big a deal, specifically pickles, but by golly, it
is and people people love it. There's also a lot
of outfitter things at these at these events as well,
and by that I mean these different trips you can
take an excurseion and places that those are always huge
at these shows.
Speaker 6 (20:03):
Oh absolutely. We have tons from all over, from Canada
to South Africa, New Mexico, the Midwest. We have them
from all over. So whatever you're looking for, you're going
to find it here. And not just hunting outfitters. We
have fishing charters from Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, the Chesapeake area,
So you're just going to want to come and get
(20:23):
one of those trips and just get ready to be
outside and be warm. It's been a long winter.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
It has been a long, long winter. And tomorrow, oddly enough,
playing up the aspect of people wanted to get outside,
it's actually they say that we could possibly break record
temperatures today to mar temperatures are going to be possibly
in the low eighties. So even though everybody wants to
get outdoors, they may forget what it's like then they
want to go back indoors again. And it's air conditioned
inside there. So those never thought this time two or
(20:51):
three weeks ago we'd be wanting air conditioning, but we
do want at myland Park there the facility is air conditioning. Kelly,
I know you're busy. We'll let you go. We'll revisit
you guys today on Metro News Midday. Appreciate you being here,
have a great show. We'll talk soon. Thanks you all
right again. It is the state's premiere outdoor sports show,
twenty fourth annual West Virginia Fishing Hunting an outdoor sports show.
(21:11):
It's all present of by can Am Mile Park in Morgantown.
They'll start things tomorrow and Sunday at nine am, going
to seven o'clock tomorrow night. Over one hundred thousand square
feet of everything that's outdoors, well over two hundred vendors,
all in one place. If you need information, go to
the website at WV Outdoor Sportshow dot com. WV Outdoor
(21:33):
Sportshow dot com. It is a WVRC media event and
again a programming note. Chris Lawrence will do West Virginia
Outdoors live from there starting at seven oh six tomorrow morning,
and then he'll do an expanded show on our sister
station in Morgantown. They're the WCCHS of Morgantown or worthy
WAJAR of Charleston. I don't know which is which, but
it's our sister station in Morgantown, the news talk station there, WAJR,
(21:55):
and Chris will be on there much like he does
in Charleston, doing a live show between ten. A new
download the WVRC Media app and that way you get
all of our stations all in one place. And yeah,
maybe on Monday, I'll get into what's happening with one
of our stations here in Charleston because we are now.
I'm not making it a huge change. They're just just slight,
(22:17):
little change. You're gonna note to one of our stations.
I'll talk about that coming up on the show on Monday.
Coming up in just a bit, we are going to
talk to Ashley offer Glance from the Putnam County Chamber
of Commerce about it. I mean, man, there have been
so many things going on in Putnam County over the
last couple of days. I mean, businesses opening, people moving in.
I mean, it's just been off the charts actually offered.
(22:39):
Glance is the executive director of Putnam County Chamber of Commerce.
She is going to join us real quick. Note here,
I was away from the microphone yesterday and I don't
want to, you know, bore everybody with any details or
anything like that. But as you well know if you
listen to the show, I've talked about it pretty openly.
I am battling cancer. It is prostate cancer, which is
if you're gonna gonna get cancer, that's want to get
(23:01):
I mean, because the survival rate is incredibly high, and
I just keep getting messages and text from people saying, hey,
my husband went through this, I went through this, so
on and so forth. So I had to have a
procedure done yesterday, and I'll spare you the details, but
basically there's that I have gold in me. Now, how's
(23:22):
that I have? So you know, if I ever get
hard up, you know, ever get fired from this job,
go to my local pawnshop. I've got gold. Just saying
so I got that going on now Monday, I go
in for another procedure where they're gonn gave me some

all the thoughts and prayers and so on and so forth.
I will say this though, and I posted this on
social media. My wife and I have a very very
dear friend of ours who is an older lady. She
lived across the street from us for many many years,
and that she she moved last year. She moved down
to Georgia to go into an elder care facility to

Completely understandable. But my wife U and Miss Billy as

Good morning, welcome to the show.
Speaker 4 (27:03):
Good morning day, Thanks so much for having.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
Me, Thank you for being here. I understanding you folks
just finished up a I'm sure what was a very
successful business before business over there, right we did.
Speaker 4 (27:12):
Yeah, we had a great crowd this morning. We were
at the Travis and Brittany Willards Edward Jones office and
we had a littlee hundred and fifty people with us
this morning.
Speaker 5 (27:19):
So we were thrilled.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
A nice sunny day bringing out everybody looking to make
some connections.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
You know, there's been lots of stuff happening Ashley and
Putnham County recently. It seems like every time you turn around,
something new is opening up. Wingstop now open at Liberty Square.
It's a couple of days ago Dunkin Donuts into Buffalo
Wild Wings to go open there. There's a lot of
stuff going on in Putnham County these days.
Speaker 4 (27:42):
Yeah, there absolutely is. We've seen some tremendous growth in
our retail and restaurant industry in this last couple of weeks,
so really excited to bring some of those new restaurants
on board and provide some more opportunities for folks. You know,
here in Putnam County, we are so fortunate we have
over thirty five locally owned restaurants, but people also still
(28:03):
love the opportunity to work with some of the chains
in the area, so we're eager and excited to welcome
some of those to the area. One of the new
local restaurants though, that just opened up is the Bad
Happy Burrito. People are really excited about that, as well
as the Sugar Maples just in the same building with that.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Yeah. I have not had a chance to visit Bad
Happy Burrito yet. I know one of the owners really
well and he's reached out to me a couple of
times and talked to about I haven't had a chance yet.
We have been to the other place, the Bakery, and
again it's in one building on Tays Valley Road. My
wife and I a couple of weeks ago went in
there and anytime she can get a scone, she's happy, okay,
(28:42):
And so they had scones and she got a coffee
and it was really really good. And they also have
genuine Ellen's ice cream in there.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
They do absolutely Yeah, so there is Ellen's ice cream
in there. So as the weather it's getting warmer, you
can go and check it out. And they have a
specific one that's special to two sugar Maples, the sugar Maple,
the Maple ice cream, and so that's really nice and
you don't have to definitely go check out the Bad Happy.
It's a really fun vibe as well as the food
(29:11):
is just phenomenal delicious. We've also seen some retail coming
into the area. The five below. It is officially open.
I think we're still seeing some comments asking if it is,
if it's open yet. It is, and we've got some
other stuff coming into the area. Another restaurant that just
opened up too in Putnam Village is Hanks and it
is a golf stimulator and a restaurant. So people are
(29:33):
really excited about that. Those that are always asking about
what activities are there to do, you can go check
out the golf stimulator as well as have some delicious food.
And that's in Putnam Village next to the Goodwill and
the Aid of the app.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
It's a former Italian grill location. I think, right, that's right.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
Yeah, yeah, we were decided to lose the Italian Girl,
but we are really excited to have this new option
available to folks to fill that scout for sure.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
Well, I can tell you you got TJ. Meadows, Uh
you definitely, he's a Putnam County gad too. You got
his attention when you start talking about golf and because
I mean this is a genuine golf simulator that's inside
to plus great food as well.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
Yeah, we also well we also if people really love golf,
the simulated Swing is also in Pundham County and it's
just off the Nitro exit as well, and they are
seeing tremendous success with their with their some golf simulator
bins as well. So we're we're really adding some great
additions to the community, a lot of stuff for people
to do. And I really I feel like I'm actually
(30:31):
forgetting some.
Speaker 6 (30:32):
Stuff because we've.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
Had so much uh so much new stuff come on
in the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Well, and I do want to mention and not to
make it all about food, but it was announced that
Bogey's is going to be going into Hurricane too. Now
Bogies this is of course, they have the location inside
Capital Market. They were voted best hot dog in West
Virginia for their uh their location out in Tornado, and
they just announced within the last couple of weeks that
they are going to be opening up as well, just
off the if you take the Hurricane ecod it's right, Uh,
(30:59):
it's to be right. We're like being in the neighborhood
where Subway and Pizza Hut is through there, So you
get that going on. I want to get away from food.
I know it's hard for me to say, but I
want to get away from food for me.
Speaker 4 (31:08):
I know that we have for you know, you to
have that opportunity to.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
Yes, But I want to talk about some of the
other growth and some of the other things that are
going on in Putnam County, because, as I said, it's
there's been a lot of announcements about food places and
retails so on and so forth, but there's a whole
lot more of this of this, uh, this vibe going
on as far as growth in Putnam County right now.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
Yeah, absolutely, I mean we're we're definitely uh, you know,
if anytime Putnam County comes up, I'm sure that our
housing shortage is mentioned in some capacity. And so we've
got some really great developers, some local developers as well
as some national ones coming in to add some new
housing to to the market here in Punham County. You're
going to start seeing some groundwork being done down on
(31:50):
the Woodworth's Farm, which is ward Communities down in Hurricane
pretty sid and then we also have a great uh
some some great investment in Winfield and the Windfield area
housing coming there as well. Winfield. You know, when you
think about Putnam County a lot of times, you know,
Tay's Valley kind of gets the highlight. But Winfield is
a phenomenal community. And not only are we going to
(32:10):
see some new houses coming in there, we've had a
coffee shop open up as well as some other small
businesses over there in the last couple of weeks too.
So that's a really good community to be a part
of with with where we're seeing some great growth too.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
Bottom line is Puttnham County is the place to be
right now. I mean, because there's a lot of folks
moving in. There's businesses open up right and left, and everybody,
you know, wants to talk about the traffic situation. And
I get it. You know, you know where I live.
I live right off Day's Valley Road about a half
a mile and a half or so, I'm in it
every day for about fifteen or twenty minutes. But you
know what, it beats the alternative, Ashley, it beats the alternative.
Speaker 4 (32:43):
Yeah, we're we definitely know and we definitely here hear
the concern of the community about that, and we are
doing everything that we can to address that with the
powers at be So we we do understand that. But
we also, you know, know that this is just a
great community to be in and on occasion, you know,
there will be a little bit of a hold up.
So so yeah, we're just we're seeing some great stuff,
(33:05):
some new stuff entering the market, and we are just eager,
eager for more.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
And I would guess the farmers market to be opened
up here pretty soon too.
Speaker 4 (33:15):
Right, Yeah, yeah, yeah, So the farmers market actually has
their annual meeting. Funny you say that, I just got
an email about our annual meeting for a Farmer's market
this Sunday to kind of get interest from what our
vendors are going to be. The Farmer's Market is going
to take place here at Area thirty four and it'll
open up in May and it'll run through the fall.
So but it'll be here. People were concerned, you know
(33:37):
obviously with the beat ups and the duncan opening up
in the in the spot of wind, where was the
market going to go? And it's actually just going to
move right over here.
Speaker 5 (33:45):
To Area thirty four.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
Yeah, and that's the that's the Area thirty four is
the home of the among other things. You know, you
got the coffee shop in there. You got Connie slinging
to coffee, and Ashley's offices there and the CVB and
every there's several other offices in there as well. And
it's it's there. It's on that lot there just beside
where Exon and Arby's is, so you can't miss it,
just off the days Valley exit. Ashley offered glances with
(34:07):

(40:14):
So we have a story posted about at WV Metronews
dot com. Police we're going after apparently some twenty two
year old guy and he's in not that he wasn't
already in trouble, and he was pretty well known to
law enforcement anyway. From what I understand. Now he's in
even more trouble because as part of the chase, and
again you can read about at WV metro news dot com,
(40:35):
he rear ended another lady. So now she was tragically killed.
Not only is he facing charges for the chase. He's
also facing charges for vehicular homicide and a host of
other charges that he's caught now and tragically. It's a
tragedy when anything like this happens, of course, But the
woman killed was very well known. The Strawberry Lady as
(41:02):
she was known, Angela Bourne was her name by all accounts,
just a fantastic human being. The guy who calls her
death not so much I have not. I did not
know her personally, but I knew a lot about her.
I know that Steve Bishop from her sister station of
V one hundred, was very was I think, very good
(41:25):
friends with her. Knew her very well. I'll have often
in the office used to hear him referring to the
Strawberry Lady. It's tragic story all around. Read the story
wv Metronews dot com. Morgan Pemberton has that also, longtime
Canawan County Magister Joe Shelton dies at the age of
eighty six, who was first elected back in nineteen seventy six.
(41:46):
A lot of years of great service, certainly a life
well lived. Thoughts of prayers to his family and colleagues. Ryan,
You're gonna have to remind me of something am I
out of breaks?
Speaker 12 (41:53):
Now?
Speaker 2 (41:53):
Did I take my final break? Okay? I couldn't remember.
I take one day off yesterday and and and my
mind's all foggy. I was thinking, have I taken all
my breaks? All right? So I've taken all my breaks?
That's good. H Let me see here. Tex says, uh Dave,
wondering if anyone saw the awesome job by South Charleston
Middle School basketball. They finished an undefeated season with a
(42:16):
buzzer beater with buzzera with the buzzer beater three three
point shot in the state championship game. It's made national
sports news and they sent me a link to it.
I did not translations. Texas seems all the handwringing over
Capitol Highs basketball seating was for not. Looks like the
(42:36):
coaches got the seeding correct. That was that was a
lot of contract, a lot of discussion of the last
couple of weeks about the what many people saw as
a low seed by the Capitol High basketball program. And
uh they went down to Greenbrier East last night and
they were defeated. Uh So, Texas said all for not.
(43:01):
Jack says, I saw the video. Should police have been
pursuing the suspect with the traffic conditions, especially throwing spike
strips in heavy traffic. I do not know the answer
to that. I do again, I was at home recovering yesterday,
but I, like you, saw it on the news last night,
read about it on her website, so it on social media.
It's not my place to question police of what they did.
(43:26):
I don't know. I think there will be an investigation
into it, as there is any time anyone loses their
life on this in a manner like this. So to answer,
I don't know what the answer to that is, but
the investigation continues. I know Putnam County Sheriff Bobby Agleton
had a press event. Heard some of the audio a
little bit this morning when I was driving into work.
(43:47):
All right, So I'm gonna throw this out here right now,
all right, and just just hear me out of this. So,
the students from Capitol High School, you were called a
couple of days ago, some students from Capitol High School
I had an issue with ice and they protested at
the West Virginia State Capitol while the legislature was going on.
(44:10):
And let me say I did reach out to Capitol
High Principal John Anderson. Uh, and I invited him to
come on the show today. He politely declined, and I'm
fine with that. That's okay. I appreciate that. And he
in the statement in a text to me, I don't
think he'd mind for me sharing that. He said, what
(44:30):
happened with Capitol High School and these students protesting the
Capitol was more of a student issue, and he is
this is a quote he said more about them than
than really it was about about me. Me need him,
which you know, I get that, and I appreciate mister
Anderson for, you know, for texting me back. I will
say this, I think a lot of people were upset
(44:52):
about it when I and and you saw the uh.
The comments from frequent guests to this show in Miday
and talk Line as well a Delegate Hathe Kathy hes Krause,
who I considered to be a very very close friend
of mine. Known Kathy for a year, Delegate Crouse for years.
She and I don't always agree on everything, and that's okay.
We've been friends for you know, well over ten years now.
(45:14):
But she was one of the ones that issued a
statement on social media asking questions about this about this
protest at the capital, and you know were questions like
were state funds, were transportation, uh, you know, to get
them to the capital taxpayer dollars and things of that nature.
Uh did they just walk out? Was the school aware
(45:36):
of it? Or they excuse absences? So on and so forth.
The state, the Kenaw County School System issued a statement
about it. Capital High School itself issued a statement about it.
And then many of the students were interviewed that took
part in the protest. They were interviewed by local television stations. Uhh,
I saw one of the interviews with one of the
(45:56):
young ladies who I think was the organizer or one
of the organizers last night on the on the on
on one of the newscasts last night, and Delegate Kraus
then comes on and responds with a statement saying something
very much paraphrasing here, saying something to the effective. Okay,
my questions were answered, and that's great and I and
(46:19):
good on Canaw County Schools and Capitol High School for
releasing the statement about explaining. Okay, So basically what they
said was no tax dollars were used to get the
students there. They went on their own accord. They were
not given any extra credit. That was going on online.
People were saying that, well, the kids were offered every
(46:39):
extra credit. Apparently not that. Apparently that wasn't the case.
So I will just say this about the situation. Okay,
this is just my opinion I thought, and hear me out.
I thought it was kind of a silly protest, Okay.
In my opinion, I've not been happy with everything that
(47:01):
what the coverage I've seen what ICE has done either.
I think they're in many many cases completely out of hand. Okay,
in many, not all. However, let me say this. I
applaud the I applaud the kids, whether I agree with
them or not. I applaud them for putting down their
(47:22):
phones long enough to care about something. And they obviously
were very passionate about this. As far as everyone being
upset about it, that's certainly you're right. But I'm going
to pose a question to you and give you something
to think about. All right. This is from your old buddy, Dave.
(47:44):
You're just something to think about, all right. I saw
the comments online. I saw some of the comments about
the students were vile. Because this is not not from
Delegate Chrous by the way, not from her, But from
other people, some of the comments were vile about about
these kids. These are kids you're talking about fifteen to
I guess i'm generalize, say fifteen to eighteen year old
kids you're talking about. All right, Ask yourself if you
(48:08):
were one of the people that was so upset about this,
ask yourself this question. Would you have been as upset
had the students been up there for a Charlie Kirk memorial?
Would you have been as upset had they been up
there to protest abortion? And I'm just using that as example.
(48:32):
If it were National Day of Prayer and the students
went up there, would you have been as upset? Okay?
And I'm not saying anything's right, anything's wrong. All I
am saying is that you got I think that you
have to look at it objectively. Okay. Again, did I
(48:56):
support I'm not a parent, I don't even live in
Kanan County, but I didn't. But I applaud them for
caring enough to get involved in something. I applaud any
kid at fifteen sixteen years old that will put down
their phone long enough to get involved. And one of
the students said, there is no Republican club at Capitol
(49:18):
High School. Because these clubs are student led and know
from what the student said, and I have no reason
to doubt them. There's not been any effort to start
a Republican club. Now, I do know that in Putnam County.
I do know there is a very active Republican and
Hurricane High School, at least at one time when I
was doing voter registration drives, Hurricane High School had a
very active Republican club as well as very active Democrat club.
(49:39):
They actually work together on voter registration drives. So I'm
just asking this question. If you were one of those
that was so upset about this, even though it was
explained that no kids were not The kids drove themselves there,
the parents signed off on them being there, they were
not given extra credit for going. Would you be as
upset had they gone up there for a Charlie Kirk memorial?
(50:03):
Would you have been as upset had they gone up
there for a National Day of Prayer or had it
been more Republican focused. If your answer is yes, I
would have been just as upset, then you're fine. In
my book, you're fine because you're consistent. But if you're not,
I think it's a little bit hypocritical. That's just me.
(50:25):
