Speaker 1 (00:14):
Hey, it's Brian Freed, your inventor coach. Today. I want
to talk to you about how to get started with
your invention idea, figuring out who it's really meant for,
and how you can open up more opportunities by reaching
the right people. Let's get into it. When you first
come up with an idea, it's easy to get excited
and think everyone will want your invention, But the truth
(00:35):
is success often depends on knowing exactly who your product
is for and understanding its full potential. Ask yourself, is
your invention for the mass market or is it designed
for a specific niche maybe golfers, seniors, or people with
a particular need. That's your window of opportunity. How wide
can you make it? Let me share an example from
(00:57):
my own experience. One of my inventions, poll Tie, started
out as a simple solution for sealing bread bags. But
then I realized it could work on cereal bags, freezer bags,
chip bags, even organizing cords and wires. That's expanding your window.
Instead of selling just to bread eaters, I was now
(01:17):
selling to anyone with a kitchen. So here's the challenge
for you. Think of at least three different types of
people or markets that could use your invention. Sometimes the
new market you discover might be even bigger than your
original idea. Next, it's important to do some early research
check if similar products already exist online, in stores, or
(01:39):
even in the patent databases. This research takes time, but
it can save you a lot of money and effort later.
And remember, the invention process is not just about creativity,
it's about business. Treat your idea like a business from
the start. Give it a name, visualize it, and commit
to making it Realocusing on who your invention serves and
(02:02):
how broadly it can be used, you set yourself up
for better chances of success. Showcase the true origin of
your innovation. It was invented right here in the USA.
