Speaker 1 (00:01):
Exploring the latest headlines and in depth conversations. It's the
Richmond Weavers Show on one oh four nine Fox Sports
up State presented by Ingles Low prices, love the savings,
Now for richest take on sports. Here's Richmond Weaver.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Here on one O four nine Fox Sports Upstate. It
is a Monday edition, of course, So the Richmond Weaver Show,
presented by our good friends at Ingles Markets. We are
in full force here in studio, mister Trey Falco behind
the board and behind the mic. Live here in the
Canal Insurance Building, the Ingles Studio, eleventh floor, overlooking a

(00:45):
nice view of the Blue Ridge Mountains and a beautiful
day here in the Upstate. And maybe a little bit
of cloud cover, but that's okay. We still have a
lot of sunshine. Get out outside, get your vitamin D
all of that. It's August tenth. That means it's getting
close to the middle of August. School starting in Greenville
County tomorrow. Yeah, so I know, get ready for increased

(01:09):
traffic a little patient. It's going to take a few
days to calm some of the traffic down a little bit.
Let everybody get into their routine, right, all of that,
but I know there's probably parents that are almost rejoicing
that school is starting so you can get back into
a routine. Oh yeah, summer can be tough, and especially

(01:31):
for those ages where it's like thirteen to seventeen and
some are starting to drive, friends are starting to drive,
and they just want to be out until midnight. Oh yeah,
well wait a second school night. Yeah exactly. That's why
there's something about all right, hey, it's a school night,

(01:52):
so it's an easy default as a parent, Oh sorry,
school night. But in the summertime, you don't have that.
It's like you have to play these games with your
kids to try to convince them that your curfew, you
need to be ten thirty because I need my sleep
right out. Yes exactly, even if you are a senior,
let's have ten thirty. But my kids didn't do that.

(02:15):
It was it was midnight, and you got to respect it.
You got to let them spread their wings. All of that.
I get that, But I do know that some parents
are rejoicing that school is starting because can you get
back into a routine where the kids are like, oh uh,
first day of school. But there's als there was always
an aspect of yeah, you didn't want to get back

(02:37):
into the grind of school. But there was also a
little bit of excitement in terms of going back to school.
And I equate that also that you see some of
these camps now starting, not only in the NFL and
then also in college football, just in terms of you know,

(02:58):
it's going to be a grind, you know you're going
to be hot, you know it's going to be tough,
but there's a little bit of that excitement that, oh,
here we go, We're back at it. Yeah, I mean,
here we go. And I think that's how a lot
of kids probably feel because I remember, you know, the
first few days of school, the first day of school,
I mean there was that anticipation of the Butterflies new schedule,

(03:20):
you know. And now even in the sports world, maybe
a new head coach, right, maybe some new roster changes,
whatever it might be. So this is a point of
the calendar year where I think you have some excitement
but also in trepidation, just like, oh, okay, I don't

(03:41):
know how it's going to turn out, and us as fans,
we're in that situation of almost overthinking it, like okay,
you start overanalyzing every piece of information, every piece of
content that's out there. So my point is that just
take it all in perspective, try to digest it at

(04:03):
an easy pace, try to rush things and be drinking
from a fire hose. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
I do think it's naturally just this time of year,
when you get about midway through August, it's that.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Point of your turning the calendar.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
So to speak.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
I know we say that a lot.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
We talked about going to different months, but this really
is kind of the kickstart. Even though it's not officially fall,
you can really look at it and go, Okay, it's coming,
It's almost here. That's when you start getting into the camp.
If you kids start going back to school and you
start building a routine, not only around obviously school, but hey,
look Thursday night, we've got a game coming on. I
know it's preseason, I know, but there's football in the air.

(04:40):
We're starting to build that schedule back to where we're like, okay,
we can start anticipating and looking at games now, and
that's exciting, even though again it's preseason. Maybe it's a
little bit of an appetizer, a teaser going into the
regular season before you know it.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
I mean, this three four preseason game it's done.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
It's done, and we're going to have weak donut in
college football is right around the corner, yes, And then
of course the regular season starts. And then once we
get to Labor Day, then we can say, oficially by
old traditions, that's the end of summer. At once you
cross over that date there in September, get past Labor Day,

(05:22):
and then you can say it's officially fall. Even though
we know the temperature is not always going to dictate
that not here, I can promise you that it seems
like it takes until after Halloween before it actually truly
cools off. You might have some periods, I.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Mean sometimes that stretches into November.

Speaker 5 (05:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Yes, And we've I know, we've beat that drum way
too much in terms of how much we talk about
the weather and some of our frustrations with the roller
coaster ride. But there's also the roller coaster ride of
what we're going to see in the regular season, not
only in college football but also in the NFL. Of course,

(06:00):
I want you to join the conversation though eight six
four two four zero five four eight zero. Again, that
number is eight six four two four zero five four
eight zero. That is the Eagles hotline. Let me know
what is on your mind. What are you excited about
heading in to the middle of August here as we're
getting closer and closer to actually having games to specifically

(06:23):
talk about. And so with that said, one of the things,
of course during talking season is what we're trying to project.
Oh yeah, yeah, who's gonna be? We're trying to predict. Yeah,
we want to know how are team's going to be,
as I mentioned, and we can overanalyze things. And I
do like some of the things we've done in the past,

(06:46):
and especially when we've talked about would you take the
field or one particular team or a group of teams,
or again, as we've talked about in golf, do you
take Scotti Scheffler versus the field to win a tournament,
to win a major? And typically, I mean I remember
specifically it was, oh, do you take Tiger Woods or

(07:08):
the field? And so looking at the NFL just coming
off of the Hall of Fame game last week, which
was spectacular, and then even the Hall of Fame ceremony
this past weekend and Jeremy Green and Tank Spencer and
Sportsocracy Upstate, they were there in Canton and I know

(07:30):
they'll be talking, you know, a lot about that coming up.
But looking at the NFL and the divisions and what
we can expect from each division this year, and so
I'm curious, will we have a repeat division winner in

(07:54):
each of the divisions? Okay? So in the AC, I mean,
who would have thought you're Steeler?

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Yeah, ten and seven. And then you had the New
England Patriots come out of nowhere fourteen and three to
take the AFC East. You had the Broncos also at
fourteen and three. And I also think that the Broncos
I wouldn't say they came out of nowhere, but did
we expect the Broncos to finish fourteen and three?

Speaker 3 (08:20):
They kind of came out of nowhere to a degree.
I mean, fourteen and three was on the very high
side for me.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Look at Doncos ceiling. Yeah, they played above the ceiling. Yeah,
I'd agree with that. And then in the AFC South,
could we also say the Jags thirteen and four? Yeah,
because I don't think we expected the Jags to be
thirteen and four. Maybe they could win the division, yeah,
but not with a thirteen and four record.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
Yeah, Because even there towards the beginning of the season.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
I still remember just some question marks about the Jags
last year looking at it.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
Obviously, what does Trevor.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
Lawrence look like coming end of this year, what do
they do with Travis Hunter, how does that work out?

Speaker 4 (08:58):
What does it look like?

Speaker 3 (09:00):
And then obviously, and I keep coming back to this
just because that sums up that to me, this was
the turning point of the Jags season when Trevor Lawrence
against I think it's the Cheaps, right, had that weird
wonky like scramble fell over, fell out his way and
lion zone Yes, And then from there it almost feels like.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
There was some kind of curse lifted or something where.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
All the bad juju came out in that one play,
and then for the rest of the season, I was like,
where are.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
These Jacks coming from? Where are they? Who are these people?

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Yeah? Liam Cohen did a fantastic job almost wieling that team,
and what you just mentioned, I agree with you. That
was a seminal moment, it seemed for the Jags in
terms of Trevor Lawrence. And it was the analogy and
we talk about it so many times, and I think
there's a Japanese proverb that and I'm going to not

(09:49):
do it justice here, but I think it's something about,
you know, if you fall seven times, yeah, you stand
up eight times? Oh yes, yeah, so base It's almost
what like Trevor Lawrence did, It's not so much how
many times you fall, it's how many times you get
back up and for him to fall right there but

(10:11):
then get back up and somehow get into the end zone.
It was wild. It was maybe one of those moments
where it was a rallying point for the Jaguars. Now,
of course they didn't make anything special happen in terms
of the playoffs, and you know how that played out,

(10:31):
but just for them to finish there at thirteen and
four and what you're talking about that particular play, I
think it gives Jacksonville a lot of confidence going into
this twenty twenty six season, and I think Liam Cohen
seems to be the guy that maybe can help Jacksonville
get out of the dysfunction where I felt that they

(10:51):
have lived for a long time since they became a
franchise in the NFL. Now again, I know with Mark
Burnell they had a nice little run for a period
of time, but for the most part, we view Jacksonville
as the team that just gets shipped over to England.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
As I said that, the German team or the England
I forget, just across the pond. Yeah, we're gonna play
an NFL game.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
Who should we take? Oh, just in Jacksonville.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
Just send them.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Yeah, exactly, they're Vanilla, they're black. Let's just go. And
that seems to be what Jacksonville has been over the
past ten years. Oh, they do play a lot, a
lot of international game, a lot of international games, all right.
So then turning to the NFC, we did see the
Bears win the North. Yeah we did, eleven and six,

(11:38):
the Eagles eleven and six to win the NFC East.
And the crazy thing about that is that that was
finally a repeat division winner, yeah there in the NFC East,
because it had been a long time that you'd had
a repeat division winner. And so that was the first
time that the Eagles were able to do that in

(11:59):
terms of over a period of time. The Eagles have
done it before, but I'm just talking over the past
ten years. And in the West Seahawks yep, fourteen and three,
and how they finished strong to be able to grab
that division championship and then how about the Carolina Panthers
the NFC South, they won the division. They were eight

(12:22):
to nine. Yeah, eight and nine, only team below five
hundred to win the division. I mean that's the South, right,
the NFC South. That's kind of about part of the course.
Nine ten wins, like, and my question would also be,
does it matter that you're eight nine or is it
just we just want to be division champs? I mean,

(12:45):
so when does it? Is there ever a point where
the record plays a factor in how you view the team? Like, yeah, say,
I mean, could there be a scenario where you win
the division and you're seven and ten, you're six and eleven,

(13:05):
I mean, some crazy things you have to play out.
I totally get that. But at eight and nine, Okay,
you're still a good team because you're still a quality team, Yeah,
because you won your division. When does the quality rub
off based on your record even if you are a
division winner?

Speaker 4 (13:25):
I don't know, I think it.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
I think it already kind of does, right, Like if
you were to pay, if you were to pay against
like in just a let's take the Panthers and like
the team names out of it. If I pair it
a fourteen and three team versus an versus an eight
nine team, Which one are you picking? Yeah, it's probably
going to be the fourteen and three team. That's not
necessarily a knock on the eight and nine team. It's
just from a record standpoint, you look at it and go, okay, well,

(13:47):
fourteen and three, that team obviously has to be better. Now,
I will say, to the extent of how much that
record matters, I guess it depends on how you perform
in the playoffs, because I mean you look at that
Panthers team, even though there were eight nine, I mean,
they went toe to toe there with the Los Angeles Rams,
the team that we looked at for most of that season, going, oh,
they're your Super Bowl winners, they're untouchable. But I mean

(14:10):
it came down to this last minute play there from
Matt Stafford there to kind of seal up the game,
and even then, like you still really couldn't decide, Like
it came down so close there at the end of
that playoff game for the Panthers, because they played the
Rams so tough that you kind of look at it
and forget, at least in that game that hey, this
is an eight to nine team.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Yes, I would agree, one thousand percent. And when you
look at it from a historical standpoint, to say, you
know a twenty year stretch of data, yea roughly forty
percent of NFL division champions repeat in back to back seasons.
And again we talked about the NFC East. I mean,

(14:53):
it was almost two decades without a repeat champion until
the Eagles just did that. And then I think there's
also an aspect of you do have to look at
some of the repeat historical numbers, and to a certain
degree they can be skewed over the past twenty years
because of dynasties when you look at the paytriots, what

(15:14):
they did there in the AFC East, and then even
what the Chiefs have done there in the AFC West.
So you do have that that can skew some of
the numbers. But basically there it's still pretty hard to
repeat as division champs. And there's also how about this

(15:37):
just from respective over the past twenty three NFL seasons,
at least one team goes from last place or missing
the playoffs to first place in twenty of the twenty
three last NFL seasons. So twenty of the last twenty
three NFL seasons, you've seen a team that has missed

(15:59):
the playoffs or finished last place in their division and
has been able to win their division the following year. Now,
it's not either or it's not that they you know,
we're in last place. They could be in third place
but miss the playoffs and then the next year they
win their division. So it shows you again just how

(16:20):
hard it is to repeat as division champs.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
Yeah, and I mean, if that's not the definition of parody,
I don't really know what is. I mean that right
there shows you even though we clown on the Browns
and the Jets of the world, and even the Miami
Dolphins with this weird wonky year that they're gonna be
having with Eliku willis like, it's not out of the
question for these teams at any point in time to
bounce back and be good, at least good enough to

(16:44):
make the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
Yes, that's my point is that it's extremely difficult. And
that's why coming up after the break, we're going to
take a look at each division and look at who
has a chance to repeat. But would you take the
champion from this past year or you're going to take
the field within each division? Okay, So in the NFC, South. A,

(17:11):
you're going to take the Panthers to win the division
and repeat, or you take the rest of the NFC
South HM. That's going to be an interesting conversation and
you can join that conversation eight six four two four
zero five four eight zero. Again that number to the

(17:32):
Ingles Hotline eight six four two four zero five four
eight zero as we continue this Monday edition of the
Richmond Weaver Show presented by Ingles Markets. Much more right
after this here on one O four nine, Fox Sports Upstate.
Continuing this Monday edition of the Richmond Weaver Show presented
by Ingles Markets, right here on one O four nine,
Fix Sports Upstate, and we appreciate all of the investors

(17:54):
out there investing in your time to listen and however
that might be either through your radio or the iHeartRadio app.
And if you do not have the iHeart Radio app,
just make sure you download that through the app store
or on Google Play. And once you have it downloaded,
just search Fox Sports one oh four nine, Upstate Upstate,

(18:15):
Fox Sports, Upstate Sports, Fox whatever it might be, the
algorithm will find it and then you can plug it
right there into one of the preset buttons one of
fifteen preset buttons, so you have ample opportunity and also
you do have the opportunity of connecting with us through
the talkback mic. And I know Trey you're working on

(18:37):
making sure we have full access to radio edit all
of that so we can be able to participate with
anybody that wants to use the talkback mic. And basically
what that is is that when you're listening to the
station on the iHeartRadio app, there's a red microphone there
and if you tap that, then you can record and
send up to a thirty second voice message that will

(18:59):
come to us be able to get it, and then
we can play it on air, we can respond to it.
Keep it clean, whatever it might be. Yes, just keep
it clean. SCC rules do apply even to voice memos. Yeah,
so make sure that's why we will have to screen it.

Speaker 4 (19:15):
Yeah. Oh yeah, No, I'm not firing those randomly.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
Yes, because I know there's some of our listeners out there,
our investors out there, they do a really good job
of making sure not to cross that line. Because there's
been a few times I think they've been right there
at the edge of the line, and there's been times
I've been close to the edge too, and like, you know,

(19:40):
you kind of catch yourself get the microphone. Yeah, I
get it exactly. So I know you can feel like
when you're in wea reveal. Hey it's just us bsing around,
you know, campfire, hanging out, whatever, whatever. I don't know
why they can't fire. Its one hundred degrees outside, but
it's not fall yet. But the point is is that
I know some times you just feel relaxed and hey,

(20:03):
you just might have some colorful language. Just keep it
clean because we will have to screen that, and that's why.
And Trade does have a dump button over there, so yes,
that's right. So if there is a situation where you
do call in and you get a little excited, you know,
just know that it might be cut out a little

(20:24):
bit because there's a with radio and you know how
this works. Even in TV, there's a there's a slight delay.
Oh yeah, it's got to be there. That's just part
of it. And even through your radio or the iHeartRadio app,
there is a delay of you know how this gets
out there. And I still contend though when you think
about it, I mean, how in the world do our

(20:51):
voices get transmitted just from right here? And then They're
just out in the air, basically, these signals, and an
antenna picks it up and brings it into your speakers
in your car or on your phone, our multi use device,
our mud.

Speaker 3 (21:11):
It blows me away. That's well above my pay ground. Buttons,
I know how to edit. I could talk that.

Speaker 4 (21:16):
Part well above my I have no idea.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
But isn't human ingenuity just amazing? Yeah, it blows me away.
And even to the point, I'm still amazed at just
the old school pencil sharpener, the MANUALE will stick it in,
it's got the grinder. I mean I remember having one.
My grandfather actually drilled it into my closet door in

(21:40):
my in my house, in my bedroom. Yeah, as a kid,
and I would just sit there, I would take the
cover off and I would just turn it. I was
just fascinated. Yeah that then you put a pencil in
there and to come out sharp.

Speaker 4 (21:54):
Yeah, whittle it away with a knife.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
Yeah, I mean I had to do that a few times.
But the partner, I mean, it's so if I'm amazed
by that, needless to say, the technology we have now,
I mean, good grief. Yeah, all right, we gotta get
back on track here. We gotta talk sports and you
can join the conversation again. Eight six four two four

(22:18):
zero five four eight zero. That number two the Ingles hotline.
Eight six four two four zero five four eight zero. Okay,
we're talking NFL Division champions and the chance to repeat.
So we're gonna start AFC North. Okkay, all right, So
let's start with the AFC North. You're Steelers ten and
seven last year? Are you taking the Steelers or the

(22:42):
rest of the field? Got Cincinnati, Cleveland and Baltimore? Who
are you taking here?

Speaker 4 (22:50):
All right, I'm gonna take my black and Gold Lands zone.

Speaker 2 (22:52):
Oh, there you go.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
I like it as much as I'm enjoying the new
Steelers pass rush in their addition with Aaron Rodgers there
on the edge, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (23:01):
I showed you the video there in the break.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
He's got the little red it looks like a Guardian
cap I guess, a little red cap on and they're
letting him take pass rush snaps now, I mean it
looked like one or two downs. Just I guess he
had this dream that he wanted to at least try
out different positions on the field.

Speaker 4 (23:15):
I don't know, it's hilarious.

Speaker 3 (23:17):
I don't feel comfortable with my forty year old quarterback
taking snaps at pass rush, especially two years ago he
went down with the n Aikchilles injury or three years ago,
so he was moving very slow.

Speaker 4 (23:27):
It was very gingerly.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
Yeah, but all that to be said, I do think
this team takes a little bit of a step back
this year. I could see them in the wild card round.
I don't see I would put if it were me,
I would be betting on the field and I'd probably
be taking Baltimore if I could really take it, like
take a flyer on somebody. I still I'm not bought

(23:51):
into Joe Burrow. I know they've got you know, Dexter
Lawrence there, that's a great addition. I just until I
watch him go through an entire and I watched this
defense actually stand up to somebody instead of falling over.
I just don't know that I can put any money
on Cincinnati Browns out and then all that's left is Baltimore.
And I look at Baltimore, I mean they're a field

(24:12):
goal field goal away last year.

Speaker 4 (24:14):
Just Miskick, no doubt from winning it all.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
So I mean they still got the quarterbacks, still got
the weapons, still.

Speaker 4 (24:21):
Got the defense.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
Like I look at Baltimore, that seems like the team
to beat here in this division.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
Yeah, I'm looking at the AFC North also in terms
of I'm taking the field here. Yeah, I think it's
going to be very difficult for the Steelers to repeat.
I think things just worked out for them. Of course,
you had the injuries right there in Cincinnati, the dysfunction
in Cleveland, all of that, and then to your point,
I mean, just the what ifs for Baltimore. And that's

(24:48):
why I mean, I think it's going to come down
to what you just described. Also, it's going to be
Cincinnati or Baltimore.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
And for Cincinnati, I mean there's so many question marks.
And I agree with you in terms of Joe Burrow.
I mean, he's put up some numbers, no doubt, and
he got Cincinnati there to the Super Bowl. I get that,
so he's got a track record. But man, haven't we

(25:17):
put Joe Burrow up on I don't know if Pedalestal
or Mantle whatever, on a tier where we think he's
one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL And that's
probably accurate, but I think it's almost like he's up

(25:37):
there in my view, he's up there, but he consistently
has this asterix and.

Speaker 4 (25:42):
It's like justin Herbert.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
I feel like I feel he's done more than Herbert
because he at least got to the Super Bowl. Yeah,
that's I guess. My point is that recently yea, like okay, Joe, Yeah,
here we go. Is this season going to be any
different than what we've seen over the past two or
three seasons?

Speaker 4 (26:03):
Right?

Speaker 3 (26:03):
It's so funny because like Lamar Jackson gets so much flack.
I feel like, like, even, oh goodness, I can't even
think of the who it was that put out their
top one hundred list. Maybe it was the official NFL,
but put out the top one hundred players in the NFL,
and Lamar Jackson was like sixty nine. Yes, So I
got so disrespectful to Lamar Jackson. And I feel like,

(26:24):
outside of obviously Joe Burrow has made it to a
super Bowl, but we look at Joe Burrow in the
sense of what can he do?

Speaker 4 (26:30):
What could Joe Burrow do?

Speaker 3 (26:32):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (26:32):
Joe Burrow?

Speaker 1 (26:33):
What?

Speaker 3 (26:33):
Like, we look at Joe Burrow of his potential, whereas
Lamar Jackson, I look at him year in and year out,
and I'm like Damn, this guy's good. Yeah, and I
get it, he's won the MVPs, but still, I feel
like there's so much disrespect.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
There for Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
And even in these lists where you get the top ten,
Joe Burrow's always third or fourth and Lamar Jackson's either
fourth or fifth.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
Right behind him.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (26:53):
I feel like at this point, I could say Lamar Jackson,
at least from a tangible aspects, kind of played.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
Better over the past couple of years. I think he
has because of availability Lamar Jackson a couple of years ago.
He was heard also last year, That's right, it was
last year, and I think even the previous year he
might have been beened up a little bit. But there
does seem to be a different I guess how we

(27:21):
analyze Joe Burrow versus Lamar Jackson. It's almost like, oh, well,
it's Joe Burrow. And I remember coming out of LSU
I even questioned, Okay, can Joe Burrow be that good?
And I've already talked about it before. I definitely said
that about Lamar Jackson, and they both have proved me
wrong because Joe Burrow came and he exploded on the scene.

(27:47):
And I think that might put us in that position
of being a little biased. Well look what he did
early on in his career, you know, and it's like
you come, you know, straight up out of a cannon
and have a lot of success. That buys you a
lot of I don't know, equity so to speak, in

(28:08):
terms of how we view you in a positive way. Absolutely, yeah,
it definitely does. So, all right, AFC North, I'm definitely
taking the field. Sounds like you're taking the field also.
All right, how about the AFC South Jacksonville as we
talked about thirteen and four and whow Okay, this one's tough. Yeah,

(28:30):
because I don't know if I'm buying into Houston yet.
I know Houston is solid. I get it. They even
potentially upgraded their defense, which was already good. Yeah, and
so can CJ. Stroud be the guy from an offensive standpoint?
And we've seen flashes, we see J. Stroud also, But

(28:56):
I'm wondering, does does it come down to these two?
Because are you gonna We're gonna take Tennessee?

Speaker 1 (29:01):
No?

Speaker 3 (29:02):
Sorry, Cam Woard, No, No, I mean I like Robert Salad,
I like the higher I like what they're doing.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
Yeah, I just I feel it's too early, oh, way
too early. Yeah, I just I just can't see that.
And then the.

Speaker 4 (29:13):
Colts, I'm just maybe I'm a cults hater.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
I'm just like I'm I still I'm just not bought
into the Indianapolis Colt.

Speaker 4 (29:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
I don't think I am either. Yea, And you're talking
about it an amazing start that they had to the
season last year. Yeah, but then injuries and then they
just came crashing down to earth. And I still even
contend that even without the injuries, I felt they were
going to come down at some point. Yeah, they just
had to. They I don't think that they were built

(29:44):
to be a team to start that hot and then
be able to carry it all the way into the
playoffs and make a deep run in the playoffs. Now,
of course we'll never know because injuries derailed everything. But
Jonathan Taylor played extremely well and was a highlight reel
to a certain degree for a period of weeks. And

(30:06):
of course when you're getting Daniel Jones playing the way
he did, right, I don't did we expect that?

Speaker 4 (30:12):
I don't think so.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
No, I'm either no. And so now Daniel Jones coming
off of the injury. Do you expect him to make
another leap per se? I don't.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
I mean, and Jonathan Taylor's got another year on him
in terms of hey, we know running backs, you only.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
Get so many miles on those treads.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
Right well, And I mean, I know it's not a
one to one, but I mean you look at the
year that Saquon had when he popped off and ran
so well, and then the year following was just I
mean two totally almost two totally different careers in a
sense of just how drastic the falloff was.

Speaker 4 (30:50):
It felt.

Speaker 3 (30:51):
Yes, I mean I could see something similar happened to
Jonathan Taylor this year, like that sort of kind of
fall off. Maybe not to that degree, but he was
running at an elite level and that's not something that
like many many running backs can do year in and
year out.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
With a lot of carries. So he was producing, but
he was also had heavy load in that offense. So
this is a tough one. It is.

Speaker 4 (31:19):
I'm tempted to lane Jacksonville.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
I'm much in Jacksonville, yea as much Houston.

Speaker 4 (31:24):
I just I don't know.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
And that's why I'll probably get burned by it because
Houston's defense is so good. But I'm going to roll
with Jacksonville. I just I like what lean Combe is
doing there. Now we'll see how it plays out. I know,
Travis etn off with the Saints, and you know, does
that impact the offense whatsoever? He maybe never has lived

(31:49):
up to some of the expectations, you know, coming out
of Clemson. Where I feel when you look at it
from a statistical standpoint, I mean, Travis etn Uh might
be the greatest running back in acc history, right, And
I'm not just saying that as a Clemson grad. I
mean you just go look at statistically what he did.
I mean, he's broke so many records. I mean, it's crazy.

(32:13):
But you can join the conversation via the text line
eight six four triple seven ninety five ninety three. Again
that text line eight six four triple seven ninety five
ninety three, as Antonia chimed in as we're talking about Jacksonville.
So it's perfect timing here. Even though it was only
twelve to thirteen games or however long it was before
he was fired, Jacksonville hiring urban Meyer that year set

(32:37):
them back as an organization terribly. That was Trevor Lawrence
in Travis Etn's rookie year, I believe, and that is correct,
and I've been saying it for a long time. Yeah, yes,
And that's why it was almost give Trevor Lawrence the
number one overall draft pick, give him a pass on
that year because that was an utterly disa asterisk type

(33:01):
of situation. And there's no doubt. I mean they had to,
they had to clean up all the fallout from that
in the dysfunction with urban Meyer there. I mean, that
was an embarrassment to Jacksonville and it was almost like, yeah,
of course that's Jacksonville. And right, That's why I give
Liam Cohen so much credit for almost changing the narrative

(33:25):
so to speak, in a short amount of time. To
be honest with you, Oh yeah.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
I mean literally within his first year, we were looking
at at Jacksonville a lot differently than we had. And
I mean, granted, winning does that, right, you know, when
winning helps a lot. When you got Trevor Lawrence going
out there doing things like that, that helps. But yeah,
I mean to the point, Liam Cohen kind of righted
the ship a little bit, so to speak. Now again, yes, one,
you're sample sized what happens this year, who knows, but yeah,

(33:50):
right now it's looking pretty good.

Speaker 2 (33:52):
I would say it's looking very good. And because there's
almost like this belief yeah in Jacksonville. So I'm going
to go with Jackville instead of the field at AFC South,
all right, the AFC East. Woo, here we go, Patriar.
It's's fourteen and three.

Speaker 3 (34:13):
Okay, I think I'd take the Patriots. I don't know
that i'd take the field really. Yeah, I just did
no belief in Buffalo. It's not that I don't have
a belief in Buffalo. I there's a part of me
that's a little burnout jumping on the Buffalo hype train.
Especially when you get out playoff time. It's like, come
on again, are we doing the same story again?

Speaker 2 (34:34):
I think that is an under what's the word, not undervalued,
but under discussed narrative. There's a little bit of Buffalo malaise.
Yeah that uh okay, eh, it's Buffalo, right.

Speaker 4 (34:56):
And there's a part that looks at it like new
head coach. Oh, there we go to head.

Speaker 3 (35:00):
But I also look at it like nothing really from
a coaching standpoint, I mean, you still got a pretty
similar roster there for on the Patriots, minus you know,
stuff on Diggs. Not a whole lot of turnover there,
and they did pretty well last year. Why am I
going to believe that Buffalo all of a sudden with
a new head coach.

Speaker 4 (35:15):
Maybe?

Speaker 2 (35:16):
I don't know, Yeah, only because over I mean, what
would they win five division championships from what twenty twenty
to oh yeah to twenty twenty five or whatever, I
mean twenty twenty four, So it's four or five. I
think that's the number. Yeah, So they do have history

(35:37):
on their side. They have been able to do that.
But I do think there's something about how much are
we still believing in Buffalo? And to the point we've
even said it a few times here on the show.
All Right, Josh, if it's not this year when right
Doors closed it, Yes, it definitely is. And it's not

(35:58):
disrespecting or disparaging Josh Allen, not on the Buffalo bills.
But I do think there's times where you look at
Buffalo and like, oh, they burned us again because they
just didn't get over the hump or start believing in them.
But I do think they're a very talented team, and

(36:22):
I just don't know though, if I am buying into
the Patriots though, really yeah, yeah, I mean yeah, I
like what Mike Vrabel has been able to do. I
thought that was an absolutely home run of a hire
and that's you know, take all of the off the
field stuff out of the equation. But I do wonder
how that's going to impact the team. Seems right now

(36:45):
that hey, it's not talked about that much. Although that
was interesting during the broadcast for the Hall of Fame
game that they did actually talk about it. Yeah, you know, right,
therefore free game. And I didn't expect them that they
would address that because it seems like, oh, nobody wants

(37:06):
to touch it. Every nobody wants to touch it. And
I get it. I mean because at the end of
the day, we want to talk football. Oh of course,
we want to talk some x's and know, we just
want to we want to talk rosters that, we want
to talk coaching changes, how that's going to impact things,
you know, all of that. We don't the off the
field stuff. It's almost like, you know, we put these
walls up right and you know these dividers. No, we

(37:30):
will not talk about off the field. We don't want
to talk about that because we just want to talk football,
of course, especially once you get into the season.

Speaker 3 (37:36):
Now in the in the middle of the off season,
when that broke, it was like, obviously, there's nothing else
to talk about, right, It's just happened to be what
was in the news. But now that we've got gotten
sort of into the season, as we get further in
the season, I expect.

Speaker 4 (37:47):
That to be completely in the rear view.

Speaker 2 (37:48):
Yeah, I do too. I think I'm taking the field though.

Speaker 4 (37:52):
Yeah, I don't know that I'm necessarily bought into the Patriots.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
I think I think it really is that I'm just
kind of bought out on Buffalo, Like I'm yeah, bad.

Speaker 4 (38:00):
Does that sounds like, I'm just I'm so just. I
don't know.

Speaker 2 (38:02):
It's not going to be the Jets and it's not
going to be the Dolphins. I can tell you that.

Speaker 3 (38:07):
If it's the Dolphins, something went catastrophically wrong, amazing division,
That would be amazing.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
Could that be one of those teams to finished last
or missed the playoffs?

Speaker 4 (38:15):
That, man, I don't know, that's a lot of building.

Speaker 2 (38:19):
Uh, yeah, that would be absolutely insane. Jeff Haffley for
the Yeah, coach Miami. What it still doesn't even sound right,
I just don't get it. All right, you can join
the conversation eight six four two four zero five four
eight zero. Let's head out to the Ingles hot line
before we have to take this break the Richmond Weaver Show.
Who's this?

Speaker 6 (38:40):
Hey, it's Sean. How you guys doing, Sean?

Speaker 2 (38:42):
How are you? My friend? Great to hear from you
on this Monday.

Speaker 6 (38:46):
Thank you, sir.

Speaker 5 (38:48):
I've got a couple of comments basically, well, this is
a question.

Speaker 6 (38:54):
Did Adam Vinterry go too far with his jokes? I
thought he did, you know, he got all of my
balls that kind of thing.

Speaker 5 (39:05):
I mean, I think he went a little too far.
What do you guys think?

Speaker 2 (39:09):
Yeah? I wondered that also, just even from a perspective,
not just pinpointing Adam van Terry, but even when you're
in that type of situation, it's the hall of Fame, right,
I mean, is there a time and place in yeah,
to be a jokester or to express your gratitude and

(39:35):
you know, saying things and the appreciation. Now again, everybody
gets to do their own thing, but I'm not certain
that's the comedy hour. Even though it got some laughs,
I get that, but yeah, yeah, I think it's an
area where hey, let's time and place is my point.

Speaker 5 (39:57):
Yeah, yeah, I felt the same way.

Speaker 6 (40:00):
And and to come from a kicker too, you know.
I mean, hey, you know, if you.

Speaker 5 (40:06):
Were somebody else and maybe you can get away.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
With it, but come on, man, he showed he's got
some onions though.

Speaker 6 (40:12):
Yes, you got there, right, he got there right.

Speaker 3 (40:17):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (40:17):
Drew Brees was a class act. I thought that was great.
He did bring up Doug Flute, which I thought was
really cool, you know, being a trailblazer but showing my age.

Speaker 5 (40:30):
I'm glad I was born in seventy three. But you know,
Flute didn't start that. It was fran Tarkenton that started that.
You know that run run past Yeah, yeah, yeah, So,
and just a.

Speaker 6 (40:45):
Couple more comments real quick. I know, you gotta do
what you gotta do.

Speaker 5 (40:49):
But it's like you were talking about the super Bowl
and you know, the Patriots or whatever. It's almost like, yeah,
you're awesome until you lose the super Bowl, and they
if you lose it, even though you got there, you
totally suck.

Speaker 2 (41:05):
Yes, that's right, A little bit of that. Yeah, to
a certain degree, you didn't. You didn't finish the job.

Speaker 5 (41:12):
No, no, so you suck and all the other teams
are okay, So yeah, it's kind of funny, right.

Speaker 6 (41:19):
I mean, you make it your second place basically in the.

Speaker 5 (41:22):
NFL, and you you suck, you suck, You're you're terrible
one life comment. Sorry, guys, I got sinuses going on
big time. You're you were talking about technology, you know,
and you know, now, one thing I think about, and
I'm a huge conspiracy theorist, but I'm thinking about you know,

(41:45):
you got to make a phone call. You got cell
towers every what three miles four miles nowadays? And then
you got Richard Nixon calls on a rotary phone, calls
the moon?

Speaker 6 (42:00):
How did that word? Yeah, if you have to have cell.

Speaker 5 (42:03):
Towers every three miles, now, how did you call on
a rotary phone the moon?

Speaker 6 (42:09):
That makes no sense.

Speaker 2 (42:12):
The satellites, I don't know. Yeah, that's that's above my
intelligence and.

Speaker 5 (42:20):
What I bring it up.

Speaker 2 (42:22):
Yes, it'll make you think. It definitely does. And there's
there's there's definitely a lot of things that you can question. Yeah,
there's for certain.

Speaker 6 (42:36):
Yeah, I question everything.

Speaker 5 (42:37):
I'm such a conspiracy I heard you talking about the technology,
you know, so I was like.

Speaker 2 (42:42):
Let me, yes, no, I like it. You know, you
can always join the conversation. Sean. We appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (42:49):
Thank you, I appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (42:50):
Guys. Yes, anybody else out there? Again, that number is
eight six four two four zero five four eight zero,
So no conspiracy theory there. You can join the conversation
again the Ingles hotline eight six four two four zero
five four eight zero. All right, we do need to
hit this break. We've got much more of this Monday
edition of the Richmond Weaver Show presented by Ingles Markets

(43:11):
here on one to four nine Fox Sports Upstate eight
six four triple seven ninety five at ninety three. That
is the text line here on this Monday edition of
the Richmond Weaver Show, presented by our good friends at
Ingles Markets. Again the text line eight six four triple seven,
ninety five and ninety three. As we are moving fast

(43:32):
through this first hour here on this fantastic Monday, as
we're getting closer and closer to more football regular season games.
All of the things, all of those things are right
around the corner. But again, you can join the conversation
the text line eight six four triple seven ninety five
ninety three, and we'll dive more into the division what

(43:56):
we think could be the winners next year, or do
you take the division champion from last year to repeat
or do you take the field? Yeah, in that each division.
So we've gone through the AFC East, the AFC North,
and the AFC South. So the only one that I'm
going with they're in as a repeat is Jacksonville taking

(44:21):
the field for the other two. So we'll talk more
about that in hour two. But how about this. As
we were talking about the Hall of Fame game, the
Panthers Cardinals game was the NFL's most watch Hall of
Fame game in nearly a decade. The game drew seven
million viewers on NBC and Peacock.

Speaker 3 (44:41):
Huh that's pretty pay Yeah, I want to what attribute
to that, Larry Like, I don't I don't know.

Speaker 2 (44:46):
That's a good question because you had to go into
it not knowing how the game was going to be,
right particular. Yes, now, of course that maybe your audience
stays there. And then I think there is even to
a certain degree that you have situations because of social media.

(45:08):
I think people can turn the channel on once they
start seeing maybe things that are being posted. Yeah, that's
so you're a little bit more aware of how things are,
and then does that give you that opportunity of like, oh, well,
let me go check it out. Yeah, it seems to
be popping off with it, Yes, and especially as it

(45:30):
got to you know, crazier and crazier in the fourth quarter.
And of course when Haines King is able to score
the walk off touchdown basically to win the game. Now
I'm hearing reports though that he's heard his hamstring or
he heard his hamstring on that particular play, so he's
resting in a little bit. And you know, hamstrings, those hammies,

(45:55):
you have to treat those very gingerly. You cannot rush
those back or try to rush getting back too soon,
because you'll tweak it again. I mean, it's one of
the most crazy things in terms of how little you
have to do to tweak it again. Yeah, And it's

(46:17):
almost like once you've already tweaked it, it's even more susceptible.
It's fact, yes, for that period of time, and then
you're sitting there almost thinking, oh, is this going to
be the time?

Speaker 4 (46:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (46:30):
Uh oh, yeah, is this going to be it? Because
I do know, like with my back, that's the way
I used to be I've actually been doing a lot
of focus on strength training with my back and doing
extensions and stuff, not so much yoga, but I do
love yoga. My wife and I used to do yoga.
I actually I got to get back into that. But

(46:51):
just doing some extensions and that has helped tremendously, and
then doing some other stretches. Yeah, but it's it's the
same thing. There's times where I'm like, Okay, is this
going to be it? I gotta be careful, And unfortunately
it's not like but the things that I'm talking about,

(47:13):
it's like I'm bending over itself, empty the dishwash. I'm like,
wait a second.

Speaker 4 (47:17):
I picked up a water bottle one time and threw
my back.

Speaker 2 (47:18):
Out, and that's so mad. Can't happen? All Right, we
got to hit this break. Hour two of the Richmond
Weavers Show, presented by Ingles Markets, continues here on one
