Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hour two of this Friday edition of The Richmond Weaver Show,
presented by Ingles Markets, rolls on right here one oh
four nine five Sports Upstate. We are in full force
here in studio, mister Trey Falco behind the board and
behind the mic as usual, and we want you to
join the conversation eight six four two four zero five

(00:20):
to four eight zero. That is the number to the
Ingles hotline again, eight six four two four zero five
four eight zero. As we do have some weather coming
through here in the Upstate. Yeah, it got dark pretty
quickly and starting to rain and now nasty. Yeah, it's nasty.
I don't think we're in a directcho no situation that

(00:42):
Brian Kite was in and just looking at that as
during the break, I wanted to find out a little
bit more information. Yeah, because I'm not familiar with what
direccho is. I've never heard of it. Yeah, and so
I'm thinking, why haven't never heard of this? But basically
what we found out it is, and as Bka explained
to us, it's basically winds that are tornado strength ish

(01:08):
that are just in a straight line, yeah, not you know,
in a swirl, rotating or whatever. But it has to
be like over one hundred miles per hour, and then
it has to be over a span of what two
and forty miles, Yeah, which is a lot. That's a lot. Yeah.
I mean, so that's a large, vast area of devastation

(01:30):
that with you have winds that are over one hundred
miles per hour lifting up cars. Yeah. Hello, that's like movie.
That's a terrible type of situation. Yeah. And that just
shows you the power of mother Nature. And I mean,
I just I mean, you can't even fathom just the

(01:53):
power and strength, and especially when you see some of
the I mean, well, I don't have to say to anybody,
this whole area lived through Hurricane aleeen Oh yeah, I mean,
and they know firsthand just the power and devastation once
you include winds of that magnitude, the rain, and then
the flooding that happens. Yeah, I mean, and water is

(02:14):
a completely different story. I Mean, if there's one thing
you you water is one of those things. Also, I
just had this conversation underestimate so easy to underestimate, And
I just had this conversation with my wife the other
day about it that it's so easy to underestimate. But
Isn't it also the craziest thing about water because it

(02:36):
is so vital for life, but it can be so
destructive to life. Yep. I mean, it's that whole good
bad type situation that just.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Makes you appreciate the wonder of just Earth in general.
That it even happened that balance you talk about, that
fine teeny tiny little thin line.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Razor, thin razor that allowed everything to just happen. Yeah,
and hey, whatever you believe in, I do believe in
there's a God, and I know there's people out there,
you know, big bang theory, and I understand that. I
believe God said, all right, big bang, go, That's how
it happened. And I'm sticking to that, all right. So,

(03:19):
speaking of thin lines though in margins, the college football
season getting ready to start. Yes, okay, so this is
when we can start highlighting and circling not only players,
but also games that we're going to be most excited about.
And of course it's easy for me to pick this one,
and this is Clemson at LSU. That's definitely one that's

(03:42):
going to be circled. And even if I didn't go
to Clemson, this one's going to be circled anyway, it's
Lane Kiffin, Yes, Lane Kiffin first year at LSU, and
how he exited out of Old miss and all of
the controversy swirled around Lane Kiffen that has been following
him around yep. And it's almost like even and I

(04:05):
do want to talk a little bit more about the
Jayden Daniels situation in the next segment, but it's almost
like LSU, I don't know if we can go too
many days without some type of controversy with LSU. I mean,
it's like par for the course for them, you know.
So I look at it and you know, even think, well,

(04:29):
this is not going to affect LSU really the whole
Jayden Daniels type of situation. Right, Maybe it's going to
affect Jaden Daniels more because of the circus centered around it.
But for LSU, they're in the circus every day. Oh yeah,
I mean, so this was like, oh okay, just another one.
This is what we're dealing with today, All right, let's
let's let's move on. That's just the way I feel

(04:50):
with LSU. So, but when you look at this game,
there's no doubt. I mean, this is a big time matchup.
Of course, the rematch from last year, but it was
Brian Kelly that was the head coach there for LSU
and now Lane Kiffin, and I still contend that Clemson,
as poor as they looked offensively, I mean, they were
still in that game. They could have won that game,

(05:11):
And I just wonder how the season would have played
out if Clemson was able to win that game against LSU.
It did seem to a great start. Yeah, that would
have been a really good start, and it seemed to
really hurt the Tigers falling to LSU there. Then also
I am intrigued about this one, not so much that
it's a great matchup, but it's Wisconsin and Notre Dame

(05:33):
on September six, because it's played at lambeau Field. Yeah,
and so I do like that. I think that is
very interesting from that standpoint. And then of course September twelfth,
you have the rematch from last year Ohio State and Texas.
Now this one's in Austin and the second leg of

(05:55):
their home and home series. Of course, both of these
school they're entering into this game with national championship aspirations,
and of course you're talking about marquee names, not just
from a school perspective, But now from a quarterback perspective,
Julian say in for Ohio State and arch Manning, are

(06:18):
you kidneming two first rounders are projective projected? Yes, I
mean there's a lot of people that are already jumping
on the bandwagon that O arch Manning he'll be number one. Yep,
March Arch here we go. And so I think that
one's intriguing. Of course, that's a top five headline type
of matchup. And then here comes LSU once again in

(06:40):
terms of a big time matchup, and it's more about
the storyline versus the matchup itself. And yes, Ole Miss
and so it's LSU at Ole Miss on September nineteenth.
I mean, and I'm wondering, though, in all series, not

(07:02):
in terms of what the outcome will be and how
impactful it will be for the entire college football season
and the story of the college football season in twenty
twenty six, but I wonder is this the storyline of
the season though? Lane Kiffen returning to Oxford for the

(07:22):
first time head coach LSU again following the high profile
move to Baton Rouge, and I think this is going
to be one of those situations, it's going to be
fever pitched at ole Miss and you've got Trinidad Chambliss yep,
I mean back at quarterback Pete Golding, the head coach

(07:44):
who took over there and allowed them to actually have
a nice postseason run in all, and so how things
played out completely with that somewhat debacle that circus there
with ole Miss and LSU involved in it. Once again,
I think it's the storyline of the season just because

(08:06):
of Lane Kiffin and going back to Oxford, how he
left that place. Oh are you kidding me?

Speaker 2 (08:13):
The way that that ended and the way that I
mean it was, it was major news. Everybody was talking
about it because it was just such a big pivot
point there. And if there's something that we we love
in sports, it's that revenge game.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Right.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
You always look at it, you circle it right there
on the calendar. It doesn't matter the team, doesn't matter
the coach of the players. You love a good revenge game.
And so that to me, at least going into this season,
I mean, that's the ultimate revenge game, right, you get
all Miss that feels slighted because Lane Kiffin left and
went on to what he thinks is greener pastures.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Time will tell. We'll see is does it work out
there at LSU for him? Who knows? I think it.
I think it will, but again, time will tell. And
so Lane Kiffin looking at it one, Well, you know,
I tried to stay. I wanted to, you know, I
did everything that I could. I don't know why you
guys are mad it right? Why did you? Why wouldn't
you let me keep coaching even though I said I
was going to be the LSU coach. Ultimate revenge game

(09:05):
to me big time. And I don't think it's been
announced yet in terms of ESPN College Game Day, because
I think the first two games have been announced. Yeah,
But if it hasn't been announced, then I'm sitting here
asking what are you doing? Right? Just go ahead and

(09:26):
announce it. It doesn't matter. LSU could be zero to
two heading into this game. It does not, It does
not matter. It's Lane Kiffin going back to Oxford. College
game Day is going to be there, So just go
ahead and announce it. If it's not already announced, I
do need to verify that, but I don't think it

(09:46):
has been heard. Yeah, So Ken, what are we waiting for? ESPN?
You don't have to be the NFL schedule release. Drip drip. No,
just go ahead and say it. You know, you know
you're going there, That's all I'm saying. How you can
joined the conversation eight six four two four zero five
four eight zero, And we've still got other games to
look at, but we'll head out to the Ingles Hotline

(10:07):
right now the Richmond Weavers show. Who's this.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Rich Tray? What's going old fellas?

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Chad the vending Machine king, how are you? My friend?

Speaker 3 (10:18):
Oh? Man, you're probably gonna think I'm about to tell
you some fake news, rich But the snack man says
the seventy seven degrees.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
Oh my goodness, Hey, I actually believe you because we
see the storm rolling through right now, so I imagine it's
been a huge dropping temperature based on this storm rolling through.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Yeah, I caught a pretty heavy rain up Land them
a little bit ago, and I'm an inman now and
it's just a little lot drizzled toad.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Okay, Well, I'm gonna be heading up to Enman to
the Ingles there right after the show. So I'm hoping you're.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Telling me what tear Me was telling me. Man, I
worked with that thirty years ago.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
I love it. Yes, Okay, what was your job there
at Ingles?

Speaker 3 (11:08):
I started out as a bag boy.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
You know.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
We bagged the groceries and we took them out and
put them in people's cars. For him. We had to
wear brown and black slacks, a white button up shirt,
and a nicktie all that.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
I didn't have to wear a white shirt, but I
did have to wear a tie. I was a bag
boy at Ingles also, Chad, So I know what you're
talking about. Yeah, I will tell you one thing, because
that was the old paper bag days, and you talking
about while so good playing tetris later in life, Man,
I could. I could load up those bags like nobody's

(11:46):
business and fit it all right in, just perfectly. I've
got a skill set with bagging.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
I'm pretty good man, bag emgrocery pretty quick. You. I
was waiting on the cash here to scan it. It
was already bag as soon as she skinned it, not
having it in the bag.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
Okay, Well, I backed.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
Up, man, I was waiting on them.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
I was waiting on them too. But guess what. Back
then they didn't scan. They had to type it in.
They had to type the price again into the cash register.
That's how long Agoat was when I was.

Speaker 5 (12:23):
Started.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
The first few months I was at angles, the cashiers
had to do that, and then the crew come in
and put scanners in and they started scanning two or
three months after I started.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
But they had to train everybody. I remember being trained.
You know, everybody had to train on it.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
Of course. Well, I love it.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
And then I moved over when I was a senior,
I moved over to the produce section and I stopped
bananas and led us and grapes and apples and stuff. Man,
you know, it wasn't too bad. I liked it better
to back and groceries.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Yeah, we lived parallel lives then because that was my
promotion over the produce.

Speaker 5 (12:59):
Also, let's do it, man, I guess we talks some
sports this this is a sports show.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
That's right, We'll talk about whatever you want.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
Well, what are you talking about L s U and Clemson. Well, ago, man,
I'm gonna go ahead and call it. I think Clemson
gonna get them on this game may touchdown, that's gonna
be close. And I say that because all the attentions
attention is on the L s U. There's always a
little controversies and in the news lane kipping, YadA, YadA, YadA.

(13:36):
Ain't nobody talking about Clemson, man, they just quiet.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
I think that's gonna all that's gonna getting them players
heads man always talking and they're gonna be distracted. Clemson
gonna take the game, that's what That's what I'm calling.
I might be wrong, but that's just old snack man predictions. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
Well, I'm starting to get a little bit more bullish
about the Clemson Tigers in this game, where several weeks
ago I was more leaning towards LSU, was a little
a little fearful of this game, and I still am
just in terms of, hey, we don't know, you know,
certain situations with Clemson. There's some questions that need to

(14:16):
be answered, and we'll get some answers pretty quickly. But
I do think Clemson's going to compete in this game.
The more I'm hearing coming out of training camp, and
to your point, Chad, I think this boates well, that
Clemson is flying under the radar. I think I think
Dabbo likes this. I think he likes the underdog position.
I think he likes being in that position. Nobody believes

(14:38):
in us, and that is somewhat of a mantra that
he can rally his troops around.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
Yeah yeah, uses coaching point, Yes, yeah, use it man,
That's what I like about that.

Speaker 5 (14:52):
Man.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
I think they're gonna have a pretty successful year.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
I could see and maybe nine wins, maybe make the playoffs.
I think that would be a successful season. I mean,
I don't see them running well the Naties. I don't
know if I lot see it, but I probably not.
You know, they don't have the money, is like these
other schools do and the n ILL That's that's the

(15:17):
difference nowadays.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Who's got the most money wins seems like.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
There is a certain aspect of that. But Indiana does
not have the most money and they so it can't happen.
But that statement, yeah, well no, I just have to
be careful in terms of making a general statement that, oh,
if you have the most money, you're going to win.
Not necessarily does it help, Oh you better believe it. Yes,

(15:44):
it puts you in a much better position. But it's
so hard to win. But I agree with you that
I just don't know if Clemson, if this roster is
built to win a national championship. Now, of course, anything
can change. But a successful season. If Clemson makes the
college football playoff, man, that's a successful season. I'll take
that all day long. Because we've also talked about it, Chad,

(16:05):
you can't win a national championship unless you're in the playoffs,
and so if you can get into the playoffs, anything
can happen at that point.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Tell them it ought to be.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
A good season. Man. I'm kind of side of Ford.
I'm ready for it. All the start back games it means.
I mean, it was fun watching a little bit last
night with the NFL, but you know, just all the
scrubs out there, you know, I mean it's just all
future plumbers and bankers and who knows what all you know,
lectures and construction guys. It that's what we was watching.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
Really, there is a little bit of that that we
were ready for some meaningful games as we talked about earlier.
That's right, he Chad, we got to hit this break, brother,
We appreciate it. You stay safe out there in that weather.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
Woo rich up man, what time you gonna buildings them
a swing?

Speaker 1 (16:57):
Butter and I'm hoping by six o'clock. I think it's
probably gonna take me about an hour once I get
done with the show here, get in the car. Hopefully
traffic's not too crazy, but I'm a little nervous about that,
so I'm hoping by six.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
I won't give you a pro driving too rich.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Let's go run.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
Down way, run down way to happen it don't come down.
Don't go down eighty five.

Speaker 1 (17:21):
Oh okay.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
So then and there's a lot of red lights and
a lot of traffic. But man, the red light change
and the traffic does move, that eighty five is bumpered
a bump.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
Go Wade Hampton.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
Yeah, fall away to Hampton. Now when you get down there,
I'm and uh yeah, turn on one yep, and then
take jarn Dodd all.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
The way out to Ashville Highway and you be right
there within a couple of miles of English.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
Okay, Yeah, there we go.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
Yeah, yeh me. I'll text you the directions if you
want me to. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
No, I know exactly what you're talking about because I
used to live on that other side of town there Waitehampton,
so I'm familiar with being able to go that route.
But I do appreciate it, brother.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
You when I go to Greenville and come back home
to Sparnburg. I'll usually come wait it happens until more
eighty five. If I was such a.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
Mess man, Yeah, no, any.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Collar call in and sell you the same thing. We
all know.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
That's right. Hey, we appreciate the traffic advice there. Chad,
do you have a great one, brother, Hie rich Man
saying come with Sparnburg.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
We'll check you out a little while. Man.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
Damtastic. That is Chad the vending machine King and anybody
else out there. You can chime in here on Weaverville,
come on in. Eight six four two four zero five
four eight zero. Do you have any college football games
that you're most excited about? If you do, call in,
let me know on the Ingles Hotline. I think we
might have a caller. You stay on hold. We got

(18:44):
to hit this break as we'll continue this Friday edition
of the Richmond Weavers Show presented by Ingles Markets here
on one four nine Fox Sports Upstate eight six four
two four zero five to four eight zero. Get that
number to the Ingles hot Line eight six four two
four zero five four eight zero. Here on this Friday
edition of the Richmond Weavers Show, presented by our good

(19:06):
friends at Ingles Markets and make sure you get out
to your local Ingles. I know it's bad weather, I
get it, I understand it, but you're probably gonna need
groceries heading into the weekend, so go ahead and get there.
I think the weather's going to be moving fast and
it should be clearing up in a little bit. Temperatures
will probably get right back to where they were. Get
maybe take advantage of it right now. And I'm actually

(19:28):
going up to the Ingles and in men, Yeah, let
me get that out. I have to think about that
one Ingles. Make sure it's a tongue twister there and
got it out correctly. There's going to be an event
going up there pe Yanity and definitely looking forward to
heading up there for a little bit and Melissa level
with Ingles, the director of advertising and marketing, So I'm

(19:51):
going to be doing that. Hopefully the traffic's not too bad.
But Chad gave us a little bit of insight. You
get an alternate root route? Do you say root or route?
I never really thought about it, John, I actually don't know.
I know, I think I say route. Yeah, it's almost
you have to be in the moment and say it
and not think about it. Because I feel the same
way as like, I think I say route or do

(20:12):
I say root?

Speaker 2 (20:12):
I matter if you say like root sixteen, like if
you're if you're talking about a specific one, you know.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
Yeah, if you like route sixty six, because that's like
a famous one, you say route, I wouldn't say route six,
but I yeah, no, but I probably just if I'm
not saying root sixty six, I probably say yeah, I
take that route. Yeah, like that's a bike ryout route
whatever it might be, newspaper route, yeah, would be route. Yeah.
I think I would probably say route. Also, all right,

(20:36):
hey we have got Billy that was holding on through
the break eight six four two four zero five four
eight zero Billy, thanks for joining in. And do you
say route or root?

Speaker 6 (20:49):
I think I tend to say route. Yeah, I'm honously,
but who knows, honestly neither neither or neither or either either?

Speaker 1 (20:56):
Right, that's right?

Speaker 6 (20:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
I think you have to be in the moment. You
have to say it and then realize, oh, that's what
I typically say, because you can't be thinking about it.

Speaker 6 (21:05):
Yeah, I think it's rout, but you do hear root
sixty six. You're right about that? So who knows? Anyway, Okay,
I like to touch on the topics you have earlier.
And I was listening to you and Bryan Kite and
then I heard you at the beginning of the the
you know, the next hour talking about those Duranchos.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
Listen.

Speaker 6 (21:22):
I don't think they happen here that often. Probably once
over fifty or one hundred years. I'm sure they have,
but I'm not going to venture to guess how off.
And they happen in the southeast, but out in the
Southwest they are common. And when I say common, I
mean it's not you know, seasonals or anything, but it's
like a snowstorm here, it happens once or twice a year, right,
So in the desert they tend to happen once or
twice a year. And my wife likes to watch the shows,

(21:44):
whether it's heard weather or whatever. Thosekin can be very
very like terrifying. So I've seen those on those weird
weather shows, and they are terrifying.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Okay, Yeah, it does seem like some of the pictures
that he saw. And this is even what I was reading,
is that I mean it can be damaging, yeah, and
very powerful, yeah, yep.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
Okay.

Speaker 6 (22:09):
And then to be talking about you know, uh, nature
and everything in God or whatever. And it made me
think it used to be this guy when I was
in my teens in twenties. I used to watch this
guy and this guy he and me it may be
passed now Richmond or either he's very up he's you know,
he's very very up there. He's got to be in
his nineties if he's still alive. But he was a
microbiologist and he was an atheist. And not to get

(22:30):
into religion, but I just think you've touched on the topic.
So I just thought it was fascinating. This guy became
a born again Frisian based upon everything. He realized how
close it would be for there to be no life
here on Earth. It would just be one small little
thing here or there, and there would be no life
on earth. And he said it was frightened to him
realizing that, you know, one little thing out of balance,

(22:51):
and it wouldn't just be human life, it would be
no life, no life. And I think that put things
in perspective to me.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
Yeah, no, I agree with you one thousand percent. I
mean almost like yell it from the mountaintop whatever it is, right, Yeah,
I mean, because it is crazy when you think about it.
I mean, that's a completely different type of conversation for sure,
but man, it's crazy, just the thin little margin so

(23:16):
to speak.

Speaker 6 (23:18):
Yes, okay, and then sports wise, lest you agree with
everything you said about Quinston, I don't know. Listen, I've
got my thoughts and I've told you I think the
line is seven and a half, and i think I'm
going in for seven and five or eight and four
with them. But I'll be honest, if they go down
to LSU and win, that changes everything for them.

Speaker 4 (23:37):
As you know, Richmond and.

Speaker 6 (23:39):
Then Tennington would be a very feasible outcome. Bryce.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
Oh yeah, yeah. My son and I were looking at
the schedule actually today he's here from Rhode Island, and
we were talking about the schedule, and you look at
the games. The ones that could be in question would
be LSU, Miami, Virginia Tech, and South Carolina. So the

(24:04):
other ones are almost you you better win those. You're
at Cal, You've got Syracuse, You've got North Carolina. You've
got Georgia Tech, which that could be a tough one,
but it's at home, and you know, so then you've
got Charleston Southern and Georgia Southern. Yeah, I mean, you
got to win those, and so you look at it
from the overall perspective. You've got Miami at home, You've

(24:26):
got Virginia Tech at home, You've got Georgia Tech at home. Again,
you're on the road at LSU, but you've got South
Carolina at home. So I mean, even in those four
games that I first mentioned, if you just can win
two of those, then that puts you right in position
where you can win ten games. And you win ten games,
you're in the College Football Playoff and there's there might

(24:48):
be a team with nine that gets in.

Speaker 6 (24:51):
No SEA. I agree with that, and that's why I'm
saying that LSU game, Yes, you know, nobody, listen, nobody
you want to expect. Last year, I think most people
in this area thought Swumpson was gonna win because it
was a home game. I think I'd leaned towards LSU.
I just thought they had a slightly better roster, but
I wasn't really sure. Sure. You know, it wouldn't have
shot me either way. This year, I'm leaning towards LSU

(25:15):
for the same reason because you guys have got I
know he's not a first game starter, but he's really
a first year start of one to that atmosphere, I
think it's gonna be hard for you to win that,
but if you do, listen, two is very feasible at
that point, and then you're probably looking at a playoff.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
Birth agreed, And I like what you said about Christopher Zena.
Yes he has started a game, but this one's different, Billy.
We know that because he's had all off season to
try to prepare, and there's been even the discussion, Hey,
is Tate Reynolds pushing him there as a potential starting quarterback?

(25:50):
Even though Tate Reynolds is a true freshman. And that's
why I don't think there's any way possible unless he
was just a explicitly light years ahead of Christopher Zena.
I don't think you're putting a true freshman who didn't
play a senior year in high school because of an injury.
I don't think you're putting him there in the crosshairs
at LSU at night in their version of Death Valley.

(26:13):
I just don't think it's happening.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
No, I don't believe so.

Speaker 6 (26:16):
Either that doesn't mean he can't win the job, and totally,
you know, week three, four or five, or maybe even sooner.
But I just don't think he's gonna get I'm not sure,
unless you know, God forbid pre Zena gets hurt that
he gets any playing time in that game. I would
be kind of shocked, shocked if he did that. We're
probably being the either Prasena got hurt or he was
playing terrible. So let's hope that doesn't happen for your sake.

(26:38):
But you know, I think after that, maybe down the road,
you know, sometime in slate September, maybe he can get
some playing time. But until then, I just don't see
it happening at LSU. So but anyway, that's a big
game for both of those because if you look as
difficult as question schedule is, if you look at LSU schedule, I.

Speaker 3 (26:53):
Think it's worse.

Speaker 6 (26:54):
And if they lose that game Richmond, they could be
looking at seven and five. And I know, listen, something
five sucks for a lot of teams, but something in
five at LSU is really bad.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
Really bad. Oh yeah, you better believe it. And for
first year with Lane Kiffin, go seven and five. Man,
that's not going to go over well at all in
Baton Rouge, sir.

Speaker 6 (27:15):
All right, last thing, you know, I don't take a
lot out of preseason gags. When I was younger, I
used to try to read into a lot of these things,
but I don't. I can tell you one thing that
I do believe listening to Jeremy Green the last few
days and then also listening to some other people that
I believe have a handle on what's going on with
the quarterback situation out with the Raiders. There was a
lot of speculation on Mendoza, whether he was going to

(27:36):
be a successful, you know, first round pick or I
guess number one overhaul really right, I think that young
man's got all the skill sets and all the tools.
And I agree with one thing. To listen. You know,
I don't pull no punches here, I tell you guys,
but I'm not just saying it. I'm listening to this
station literally the whole time I'm working, driving around, you know,
the upstate in western North Carolina where I can get it,

(27:58):
and then when I can, I listened on my phone.
So having said all that, you know, I hear Colin
Cowherd a lot, and he keeps saying the one trait
that he likes the most about Mendoza is the fact
that he is a football nerd. He seems to be
dedicated to football, similar in ways to like Tom Brady.

(28:19):
Not saying he's going to be Tom Brady, but when
you're that dedicated to your craft, and it's hard for
you not to be good at some things. And with
the quarterback position, you know, obviously skill set matters what
you have physically, but also your processing and if he's
in there doing the homework, it's hard for me not
to believe that this kid's not going to be somewhat successful.
I think he's going to be a good quarterback this year.

(28:42):
I think she'll probably win the starting job. Maybe not first,
kind of like what we were talking about with the
Quincelon quarterback. I think, you know, they'll probably play cousins
for a few weeks, but I think somewhere along the
lines of four to eight weeks, he'll win that job,
and I think he will take off and they won't
be said that they take that they had taken him
in five years from now.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
In my opinion, yeah, I would agree with you based
on what I'm seeing from Mendoza. He does have a
little bit of that it factor, but also a little
bit of that nerd factor, and that's not a bad thing.
It sounds like I'm taking a shot at him. I'm not.
I think he can be one of those study guys.
He can be one of those guys that is not
going to get caught up with all the limelight. You're

(29:22):
probably not going to have many off the field issues,
if at all, with him. He just seems like that
type of player person, and I think that's what the
Raiders need. They need somebody that has somewhat of that
stableness or stability already within them.

Speaker 3 (29:42):
Yep, I agree with that.

Speaker 6 (29:43):
Anyway, guys, I have a fantastic Friday, wonderful weekend. We'll
talk to you next week two three weeks before football starts.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
We're any wait, thank you guys, Thank you, Billy. We
appreciate it. And anybody else out there, lets us know
your thoughts in the angle hot line eight six four
two four zero five four eight zero. Again, that number
is eight six four two four zero five four eight
zero and yeah Mendoza, Okay, yeah, again. I think there's

(30:13):
something there and I almost like it from a perspective
of yet, I didn't know what to expect from Mendoza,
and I like these situations when people go out and
prove or they earn whatever it might be. And I

(30:34):
saw that. Look, we just had a little little flash
in the studios. It's almos. A little spark that happened
there on the board. Glad it wasn't No, definitely was not.

Speaker 3 (30:45):
You.

Speaker 1 (30:45):
I saw it as well. I heard it. I don't
know if there's lightning or something that just happened, but yeah,
that was it was interesting. Make sure is there a
fire extinguisher around here somewhere? Just yes, exactly in the
kitchen area. I'm being facetious. There doesn't seem to be
that type of dire situation, but there definitely was a
spark that just in a pop that happened there on

(31:08):
the board. But my point is with Mendoza and some
of the storylines that happen, I like it when a
player performs in an excellent level, yeah, or comes through
in the moment. I like seeing that more like a

(31:30):
a kicker making the kick versus, you know, the the
other team getting to celebrate because the guy missed the kick,
Like the.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
Steelers last year, they missed the kick there and Steelers
go to the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (31:42):
Yes, you know those type of things. I'd rather see
the guy drill perform or the girl whatever, the gal yes,
to perform at their best than fail. Because again I
know that's and that's it's probably now even magnified more
as a part with your kids. I mean, you want

(32:03):
them to you know, be in that position. But there's
also you've got to be okay with Sometimes there's failure.
Oh yeah, and you gotta be okay with it and
move forward. All right, let's head back out to the
Ingles Hotline eight six four two four zero five four
eight zero, The Richmond Weaver Show. Who's this?

Speaker 4 (32:21):
Hey?

Speaker 3 (32:21):
This is Lena.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
How you fell in doing doing fantastic?

Speaker 3 (32:24):
Lee?

Speaker 1 (32:24):
How about you?

Speaker 3 (32:25):
Brother?

Speaker 1 (32:25):
We appreciate you calling in here on this Friday. What's
on your mind?

Speaker 3 (32:29):
I'm doing good, doing better? Chad was right, I just
got it hold eighty five and it's bumping and bumper
a long way.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
Oh it is okay. Well, I will make sure not
to go I eighty five. I'll avoid that. I'll go
at Wade Hampton. We appreciate you helping us out there.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
Lee. Yes, sir, so, I gotta get may one of
them spots in Waiverville, Coach, just just like you and U. Chad.
So my first job was a bag boy.

Speaker 1 (33:01):
Let's go. Okay, the trifecta. That's right. I love it.
Let's go.

Speaker 3 (33:06):
Although I didn't drift into produce. I went to meat market.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
Oh you did, Okay? See well, I had some buddies
that were working with me. They went dairy and I
went to the produce and we didn't have anybody to
go to the meat department, but we did have people
go to dairy and then produce. So there you go.
So now we got somebody who got promoted up to
the meat market. I like it.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
Here you go. So yeah. The only thing I d
I was listening to you and Brian earlier talking about
Whens a good time to let go, and it seems
to me like LSU cuts some loues pretty quick. So
my favorite game I'm looking is that LSU and Clemson game.
I think it'll set the tone early for Lane's first season.

Speaker 6 (33:48):
There.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
Okay, yeah, let me SA make sure I heard that correct.
Say that again, Lee.

Speaker 3 (33:54):
I said that you and Brian were talking about what's
when do you decide to let somebody? Yes, when it's
time to cut them loose? And I think LSU pulls
the trigger a lot faster than other programs, So I'm
really interested in watching to say how Lane Kiffen's first
season started.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
No doubt, I think you're spot on with that. LSU
does seem to be quick on the trigger, and I
wonder how much of it is. Is it like a
fan base type of situation. Do they listen to the
fans too much?

Speaker 3 (34:28):
Potentially? Even what I understand is some of the city leaders, Yes.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
It seems to be their influenced. And now we know
also these universities, in these athletic departments, they can be
influenced by boosters, the people that write some of those checks.
We do know that, and I'm wondering if that happens
with LSU because now look at all the money they've
got for Lane Kiffin, because it's the new shiny object,

(34:56):
so to speak. Lee, Hey, we got a new coach.
We believe in him, and let's go. There's something to
be said about that with LSU.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
Oh, you're exactly right. And did you see they brought
the old coach back? Did I hear that right?

Speaker 1 (35:07):
Yes, ed ors Ron, they sure did. Yeah, he's on
staff with Lane Kiffin.

Speaker 3 (35:12):
Do you remember his comment when they when they let
him go, and how was his response.

Speaker 1 (35:17):
To that, I don't remember distinctly. If you can remind me, though,
i'd appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
Yeah, he said, so listen, they're paying me seventeen million
dollars to leave. I only got two things to say.
When do you want me to go? And what door
do you want me to leave? Out there?

Speaker 1 (35:34):
You go? That sounds like ed ors Ron.

Speaker 3 (35:40):
Listen, thank you.

Speaker 1 (35:41):
Lee, we appreciate you calling in, and anybody else out
there at eight six four two four zero five four
eight zero, that's quite essential ed Orson right there. Yeah,
I mean I guess at some point you do just
have to get to that type of mentality, right.

Speaker 2 (35:57):
That's coaching, right, I mean, at any season could be
your last. You're not guaranteed anything.

Speaker 1 (36:02):
Yeah. Well, I'm trying to remember who was I think
it might have been Bobby Bowden that talked about show
me a coach, and you know, I'll show you somebody
who's been fired. Yeah, you know, one of those things.
I mean, inevitably you're going to be fired, maybe not
you know fired that you hear on the news they're fired,
but it's a forced out. Oh oh hey, you know

(36:24):
I'm going to go take this job instead. Yes, but
the only reason why is that they had conversations internally. Hey,
you know what, and so there's really no circus event
around it. I really don't want you to get fired,
so we'll help you go find another job, and then

(36:45):
that will be the way that you exit out of
the program. And that definitely happens. Because the other side
of it, too is that these coaches now, especially in
today's world, with their agents and talking their agents can
be talking to other agents of the university, talking directly
with ads, whatever it might be. So a lot of

(37:09):
these agents and these coaches, I mean, they're trying to
play checkers or chess at times. Yeah, you know, they're
trying to set up moves and trying to figure out that,
you know, what might be the next move moving forward.
And that's part of the game, part of how it's
played out with coaches right now. So to think that
if you're a coach, that you're not going to get fired,

(37:32):
oh man, you're you're in the wrong business to think that,
because right now you don't get much time. A few
years been on how well you perform. Yeah, so six months, yeah,
what Iflane Kiffin goes seven and five and seven and five,
he gone. Yeah, especially at LSU. At LSU two seasons

(37:54):
at seven and five, he's gone out. They wouldn't even
blink an eye. I promise you that that's how things
change when you look at it like that. In today's world,
how fast it is. And I think it's even until
again there's a little bit more structure with college athletics

(38:14):
and of course with college football. I think we're going
to be in that type of situation. That's why, in
all reality, I was surprised that Mike Norvell held on
to his job at Florida State. I felt that he
was going to get fired at the end of last year,
and so there's no doubt he's on the hot seat.
Yeah this year, yep. I mean he was already on

(38:36):
the hot seat. So it just got increased a lot hotter,
that's for certain. All Right. We also need to take
a look at some of the latest headlines. It's only
one game, and that's to take care of mine. Hitting
the latest headlines. It's the Daily Rundown, all right. The
Daily Rundown, brought to you by Tuck and Howell Plumbing,

(38:56):
Heating and Air. Mark your calendars here October twenty six.
It is the Sports Equinox, oh, NFL, Major League Baseball, NHL,
and the NBA will all be in action on October
twenty six. Major League Baseball World Series Game number three,

(39:18):
it's going to be happening. Then you've got three games
there in the NHL. You have nine NBA games going
on that day, including the Charlotte Hornets taking on the
Washington Wizards with the number one overall pick Aja Dabansa.
And then you also have in the NFL the Dallas
Cowboys taking on the Philadelphia Eagles. Okay, good day for you. Yes,

(39:44):
what do you think about that? Let's go October twenty six.
Mark your calendars on that one. All right? How about this?
Speaking of the NFL, I saw this too. The Commanders.
We're talking about Jayden Daniels something to say about that.
But the Commanders, we'll be tested pretty early this season.
They're the only team to open with two straight road

(40:04):
games versus division foes. They also faced the last two
Super Bowl champions in the first three weeks of the season,
so wow. Yeah. They have a strength of schedule of
almost zero point six or sixty in their first eight games,
which is the second hardest in the NFL. During that

(40:27):
span of the first eight games, so made Rodrigadell man, Yeah,
there you go, so telling you okay, watch out, watch out?
All right? So, speaking of Jadon Daniels, though, Okay, I'm
trying to understand this. DJ Pickett wanted number five, which
he's worn his whole life. And this is when Brian
Kelly was at Notre Dame and they asked Jaden Daniels

(40:50):
for permission. He didn't give his blessing. So DJ, where's
number three? Brian Kelly is fired, Lane Kiffin is hired.
DJ Pickett, Then hey, can I have number five? Now? Sure?
And Lane Kiffin doesn't know any of the other things
that happened. We brought Kelly's there and says, oh sure.
And then now Jayden Daniels and his whole team feels

(41:11):
disrespected in sending a cease into assist letter on using
his nil crazy, Hello, what are we doing? I don't
think we need to be focusing on that right at all?
Zero don't need to focus on that, that's for certain.
And we did hear from Raiders head coach Clint Kubiak
talking about number one overall pick Fernando Mendoza after the

(41:35):
preseason game and says that I do believe quote he's
an AS sending player end quote. Okay, so I think
he's laying the ground. Well, yeah, that he's going to
be starting pretty soon. All right. That is the Daily Rundown,
brought to you by Tuck and Howell. And as we
are moving through this hour here an hour two, so

(41:55):
we're going to jump straight into OTD on this date,
October fourteenth. How about this. In nineteen thirty six in Berlin,
the US wins the very first Olympic basketball gold medal
game nineteen to eight with a win over Canada, and
the game was played outdoors on a dirt court in

(42:16):
the driving rain.

Speaker 5 (42:18):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (42:18):
Yeah, I read about this and it is absolutely fascinating.
One of the great stories out there about the early
days of basketball. All Right. That is OTD. And that
is this Friday edition of The Richmond Weaver Show, presented
by Ingles Marcus. We'll talk to you on Monday.
