Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hour two.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
On the Wednesday edition of the Richmond Weavers Show, presented
by Engles Markets, rolls on right here one of four
nine Fox Sports Upstate. We are in full force here
in studio, mister Trey Falco behind the board and behind
the mic as usual, and we want you to join
the conversation eight six four two four zero five four
(00:23):
eight zero, and we will get to the text line
the trivia question. But we've had Dylan holding on through
the break. Dylan, good to hear from you, my friend.
Hope all is well, and what is on your mind today?
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Sir, Hey, rich all is good says to chime in
on this stadium like entrance, yes, topic. I do think
that South Carolina and Virginia Tech I have probably two
of the best entrances of all time. Another one, or
(00:57):
maybe sort of like entrance into the very beginning of
the game is Penn State with when they do Mobomba.
If you haven't seen the clip or watched that game,
when Penn State plays Michigan and they get Michigan to
blow a time out in the first second of the game,
that that's wild with the entire crowds just.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Going yep, that's a good one. Yep, there's no doubt. Again,
that goes back to Dylan. What you know when Billy
called in, just how it can be an advantage for
you home field advantage and then when you are you know,
home field, I should say. And then how when you
have the crowd, the electricity, the energy and combined it
(01:40):
with music, it just carries it to a different level.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Then the next thing I want to say is, at
least from what I remember, when I was in high school,
I went to broom here in Spartanburg, and when our
team came out onto the field, first they started off
with dead or alive, Yes, and then after that they
(02:08):
brought or they it came into here comes the boom,
and all of our football players came down from the
top of the stands in the home section down the
stairs onto the football field.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Okay, there we go.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Yes, yeah, that that's one that I remember watching it
since I was in the band. I was right there
watching it every week.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yes exactly. Yeah, so you saw it firsthand.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Yeah, I love it then.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
And I was even watching that before then because my
brother was also in the band and he's older, so
I was going to the games just watching him. But
I was also watching the football game at the same time.
And then it's sort of one of the thing I
wanted to say, all say they kind of ties into
(03:02):
the so like bringing or like watching these games being
introduced over into other markets like Europe and whatnot internationally.
Is I don't know if you've ever done it, but
I've taught myself watching videos constantly of like British people
(03:24):
reacting to just college football entrances, and every single one
of them is just amazed of like what is happening.
And if you haven't watched any videos like that, just
watching they're really good.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
No, I have not seen that.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
And that's my point is that you can't tell me
they wouldn't be entertained. And now again, I know they
have their own traditions, and you watch some of their
crowds at their soccer games, I mean they go crazy,
they'd get into it.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
But again, there's something.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
About football with the helmets, and as Billy talked about,
and I've said it before too, Dylan, I think you'd
probably agree with this. It's that that gladiator type of mentality.
It takes you back to the coliseum and just you know,
the pageantry around that and so what you're describing only
supports my point that.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
They need to see and experience.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
What it's like on a college campus so you can
get the full understanding of just how ingrained college football
is in America.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Oh yeah, and then another videos I've seen was when
it comes to Virginia Tech, some from I think Virginia
Tech has released videos of what the perspective is like
from the football player coming onto the build.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Yes, I've seen that.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Yes, And and just usually watching the video of and
are saying, man, that one's crazy, but watching it from
the football players perspectives is even even more like mind blowing.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Yes, because I've seen some of those videos and sou
I mean it's like from like a helmet cam view
type of thing. And then you can hear above the players,
I mean the people jumping up and down. You can
hear everything, and I mean it's like they're going to
come falling through yeah, concrete. I mean it's so loud
(05:18):
and so energetic, and they're all bunched up. I mean,
and they're and you've seen it. I mean they're so
amped up, ready to run out there. I mean they're
doing everything they can to wait until they're given the
ghosts signal.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Yeah, And I think even when it comes to like exaggerating,
the feeling of these entrances is especially like you said
it before with when it's a night game. But yeah, sure,
these entrances are great even during the day, but at night,
I just feel like it when it comes to the feeling,
it's it's almost like, you know, when you lose your sense.
(05:56):
It's like, since it's the nighttime, you're kind of losing
your sense of sight. Everything is start. Yes, And when
it comes to certain changed like with South Carolina and
Virginia Tech, even Tennessee, when Tennessee does their like blackout
game or their their entrance during their night games, it
is almost in out of the body experience.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree. Well, Dylan, we appreciate the phone call. Brother,
You call any.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Time, my friend, all right, no problem.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Yes, anybody else that wants to chime in eight six
four two four zero five to four eight zero, and
we are going to get to the text line trivia
question and just a moment and to that point, as
far as the songs, I can remember, nineteen ninety four,
was assistant coach at Maryland Eastern Shore and we were
(06:46):
playing Georgetown. Yeah, and this is my first experience getting
to see Alan Iverson up close in personal.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Oh okay, yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
I'd actually seen a little bit of film on him
because of course the scouting report, and I knew of him,
but I had not seen him live in high school
or in any of the camps at that time, because
I was just getting into coaching. And so we're there
Georgetown's arena and the song here Comes the Hot Stepper
(07:20):
had just come out any Camosie, I think is the
artist and it's a great song.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
But when they played that.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
And Alan Iverson comes running out leading Georgetown to come
out there, I remember distinctly looking at our team and
it was immediate like, oh crap, we're in trouble. And
I even felt it. I was like, this is not
(07:51):
going to end well today. It's just not Did the
tape do him justice?
Speaker 1 (07:56):
No, not even close. He was so good.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
I mean, but when I hear AI, I don't think
of artificial intelligence. I think if Alan Iverson, sure, because
it was mind blowing the difference what you saw out
on the court, just the quickness I mean, and even
the players as they would come, you know, over to
(08:19):
the bench, you knowed exactly.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Don't know what to do with him.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
I mean, hello, you couldn't stay in front of him,
you couldn't guard him. I mean it was it was crazy.
But I just remember that song and I mean just
coming over the sound system the base, I mean, and
him coming running out there. I was like, Oh, we're
in trouble. And the players knew it. I mean you
can see it on their faces, the body language, all
of that. I was like, yeah, Oh, I was like,
(08:45):
coach man day, I don't know if this is going
to work out. That's right, stay close. It's all we
need to do. Hey, play to your standard. Don't worry
about the name on the uniform, don't worry about iverson
on the back there, I can promise you all right. Hey,
the trivia question that we were asking for two tickets
(09:10):
to the Rob Zombie Maryland Manson concert to add Trulliant
to Amphitheater and Charlotte on Monday, was name the two
teams back in nineteen ninety nine, the team that went
fifteen and oh during the season against everybody else in
the NFL, but oh to three against one team in
(09:31):
nineteen ninety nine.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
You've got to name both teams okay.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
So we had several Texters getting in eleven fifty six
said the New England Patriots.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Again that's just one team.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
We had Texter ninety seven thirty six saying the Jags
and got it right the Titans, and we also had
Colts and Ravens, but it was Lead that texted in
first saying Jacksonville went fifteen and oh again everybody but
Tennessee beat them three times. He was the first one,
(10:04):
I mean just barely. So Lee, you are the winner
there and we appreciate you texting in and a great
job there, Texter ninety seven thirty six.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Lee just beat you by a minute there.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
But the congratulations on getting the answer correct Jags and
the Titans.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
We will be given.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Away tickets for the rest of the week, so you
do have that opportunity again there to win two tickets
to Rob Zombie and marilynd Manson via Live Nation there
at Trulliant Amphitheater there in Charlotte. And so when I
saw this, Trey, I mean I literally had to go
(10:48):
do my research and verify that this was actually correct,
because initially I didn't think this was correct. Yeah, took
crazy stat because I mean I remember Jacksonville, I remember that.
You know, they were a really good team. Yeah, but
(11:09):
that type of position in terms of going fifteen and
three for the season, so they might have been the
best team in the NFL at that time. They started
out two to zero, and then in Week three they
faced Tennessee. They were winning seventy to seventeen, not seventy
(11:33):
excuse me. Yeah, they were winning seventeen to three at
the beginning of the fourth quarter and ended up losing
twenty to nineteen.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Okay, whoa.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
So then Jacksonville they won eleven games in a row.
Their defense was dominant, holding opponents to ten or less
points in seven of those games. Then in Week sixteen,
they went up to Nashville and faced the Titans again,
and the Jags made it easy on Tennessee as Titans
(12:11):
routed them.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Forty one to fourteen.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Steve McNair threw for five touchdowns in that game. Okay, okay,
So now the Jaguars managed to beat Cincinnati in Week
seventeen and held the number one seed in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
In the divisional round, they.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
Beat Miami sixty two to seven, and it's still the
largest margin of victory in a playoff game in the
Super Bowl era sixty two to seven as a beat down.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
Are you killing me? And so guess what happened.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Their reward for that is that the Titans came to
their place for the conference championship game and now it
was their turn to finally break the Titans curse and
they got trounce thirty three to fourteen as they watched
the Titans go to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
That's crazy? Are you serious?
Speaker 2 (13:14):
I don't remember it playing out like that. I mean,
I remember Jacksonville was a really good team, but there's
no way that I remembered. That's why I had to
look it up. I was like, No, they didn't lose
to Tennessee three times.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Somebody else. Yeah, Yeah, there's no way.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
They went, you know, fourteen and two in the regular
season and then go one and one in the playoffs
and all three of those losses are to the Tennessee Titans.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Yeah, there's just no way. It's a way. It's funny
like that.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
Are you kidding me? I mean, it's absolutely insane. Hey,
and we appreciate all of the Texters chiming in there.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Again.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
We'll have more tickets to give away later this week.
Tomorrow and Friday again two tickets to Rob Zombie and
Maryland Manson at Trulliant Amphitheater there in Charlotte. This coming
Monday is when it will be, so stay tuned tomorrow
and Friday we'll be able to give away two more tickets.
(14:17):
All right, we got to hit this break. We'll continue
this Wednesday edition of the Richmond Weaver Show presented by
Ingles Markets, and you can join the conversation. Eight six
four two four zero five four eight zero is the
number to the Ingles hotline. We've gotten much more right
here on one O four nine five Sports Upstate. Continuing
the Wednesday edition of the Richmond Weavers Show presented by
(14:41):
Ingles Markets. Right here on one O four nine five
Sports Upstate, you can join the conversation eight six four
two four zero five four eight zero. Again that number
is eight six four two four zero five four eight zero.
And also make sure you get out to your local Ingles. Yes,
I know you're going to need groceries at some point
(15:02):
and might as well go ahead and put your grocery
list together and just help somebody that is a big
supporter within the community, and that is Ingles Markets and
of course you've seen all the things that they've been
able to do, just in terms of making sure that
they provide you with some of the best food available
(15:22):
and try to keep the prices as low as possible.
It's not always easy, but I promise you they're trying
to do everything that they can to make that happen.
They form partnerships with local farmers to ensure that you're
going to get the quality food, the freshest food, and
then also cutting down on some of the transportation costs
(15:43):
in terms of having to get it there to the stores,
get it to the warehouse, whatever it might be. And
so make sure you understand just all the effort that
Ingles is putting into it because they want to be
part of the community. And that's why we're obviously big fans.
They're part of this community here in quote unquote Weaverville, Yes, yep,
(16:05):
right here on one of four nine five sports and
of course the Richmond Weavers Show, presented by good friends
at Ingles Markets. And so just a vote of confidence
from us that you will not be disappointed with Ingles,
not saying that any place out there is perfect, not
trying to say that whatsoever, but I'm just saying consistently
(16:28):
you can count on Ingles. I have for years, going
all the way back to win I was sixteen years old.
Oh yeah, and I was a bag boy there. And
I know I've talked about it before. So again it's
a full circle moment, so to speak, that here I
am fifty five years old and I'm still talking about Ingles.
Speaker 4 (16:47):
If only you knew then you have imagined you still no,
not even close.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Well, because part of it too is that I didn't
think i'd be doing sports talk radio. I thought for
certain I would be a college basketball coach, and so
I did get I did to obviously experience that, and
that's still one of those things though that and I've
talked to my kids about this, and I continue to
preach this that you don't want to have regrets, yeah,
in life, but you also because you can't dwell on
(17:15):
the regrets, I should say, but there's also, you know,
an aspect of you don't want to be in a
position where you're just continuing to think about it. And
you know, I've been able to move on in terms
of you know, man, I love coaching.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
I missed it.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
I wish my ego wouldn't have gotten in the way,
you know, all of those type of things because I
when our staff got fired at Maryland Eastern Shore, I
did have some other opportunities, but I was waiting for
another Division one assistant coaching job and I thought it
was going to work out. But I could have jumped
to junior college. I had some Division two offers that
I could have, but ego got in the way that, No,
(17:57):
I want to be a Division one and to be
Division one, you better stay in Division one. And the
overarching theme that is correct, but that doesn't mean it's
your only pathway.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
There are several coaches.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
I mean, as I was talking about Tobin Anderson at
Tennessee Tech, I mean he started as a head coach
in Division three. Yeah, you know, so there's different pathways.
But this is what I'm talking about when when you're young,
you think you're superman, you know it all, you think
you got it all figured out.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
No, not so much.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
But the point is is that that's definitely one of
those things. It took me a while to get over
that I wasn't in coaching anyway. And you know, and
so that's why I love doing so con fast break.
I love doing all of the college basketball TV color
analysts work. You know that I do being still right
there courtside, you know all of that. Yeah, but it
(18:52):
is a little bit easier because you know, when I'm
done as a color analyst, I can just walk out.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
And I don't have to worry about a winner a loss.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
I was just there to you know, be an unbiased
announcer and you know, explaining that you know the how
and the whys from that side of things, because.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
Coaching is definitely different these days. Oh it is.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Yeah, I mean there was always an aspect of winning
and losing. Yeah, don't don't get me wrong. I mean
I do know that, But I'm just talking about how
now not only are you the CEO if you're the
head coach, but also I mean you're worrying about raising money,
You're worrying about roster, you're worrying about schedule, and things
are ever changing. So there's so many different things that
(19:36):
are you know, happening that we're not part of college
basketball and college athletics there, you know, for a period
of time when I was coaching. So the point is
is that man, go after it, don't have regrets, and
you know, just one of those things. So when you're
(19:58):
talking about when I was sixteen, I would have never
in a million years thought, of course that'd be sports
talk radio.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
Yes, exactly, Yeah, not even close.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Again, I thought for certain I was going to be
the head coach at Clemson one day.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Now that that was later on.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
So at the time I didn't know I was going
to go to Clemson, but there was a period of
time that Okay, that's the goal. Yeah, one day, one day.
Now Clemson's in a good spot with Brad Bright, now,
yeah they are.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
I can share that.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Okay, I do want to switch gears just a little
bit in terms of looking at what we were discussing
with AP poll and the top twenty five the preseason,
because now there's also an aspect of looking at based
on on three and Brett McMurphy and him talking about
(20:54):
some of the situations where you have overrated versus underrated,
and some of the teams that are the most overrated
versus some of the teams that are the most underrated
versus overrated, And so I'm curious just when we're looking at,
(21:17):
you know, some of these teams and where they are
from an overrated versus underrated perspective, and I'm just amazed
that we're in a situation where how we're determining some
of these overrated versus underrated And basically, of course you
(21:41):
have to factor in national championships all of that, you know,
So I do get that, But there's also just from
a side of things that you know, where these teams
fall in terms of how we view them historically, and
how much does that buy us into you know, overrated
(22:03):
versus underrated, And it's all based on where you start
the beginning of the season with the preseason poll, and
then of course where you finish the season at the.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
End of the poll.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
But isn't there something to be said now that it's
so hard to determine what these teams are at the
beginning of the season, So doesn't that factor into how
you would determine somebody that's underrated versus overrated? And I mean,
I think you almost have to look at it in
different periods of time, like for the past three years.
(22:39):
I think that's its own data point, yeah, versus you know,
fifteen years ago. I mean, there is a period of
time that you could do fifteen to twenty years, but
I think three years ago. It's almost like a reset
that we're having to Hey, this is the point of
you know, a darker point where things change, and I
(23:03):
think we need to go back and now start reevaluating,
you know, from that perspective, because like Clempson being ranked
number four last year and then being unranked now this year,
they're viewed as one of the most overrated teams that
we've seen in college football based on really one big,
huge drop And I get it, But now we're also
(23:24):
looking at Indiana as one of the teams that is
one of the most underrated teams in all of college football.
And I'm looking at it saying, well, wait a second,
it's basically two three years of data, and is it
skewed because they were number twenty last year to begin
(23:47):
the season and they go undefeated and win the national championship.
And so now you know, we're trying to say in
the college football playoff era that Indiana is one of
the most underrated teams.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
I just don't think that's possible.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
Yeah, I guess, I guess it depends on and not
necessarily you, but when you look at some of these
pundits and the people that are doing the polls, and
they're kind of making these ratings like.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
How what is the word I'm looking for? Oh, you
sound like me. Yeah, I'm trying.
Speaker 4 (24:26):
I'm trying to think of the best way to put
this because I'm trying. I don't want to be misconstrued.
But like I guess how firm you are in like
your beliefs of the team, because like I feel like
to a degree, you have a more nuanced look whereas
you can look at it from instead of a black
and white perspective, you look at it like, hey, the
roster's change, we don't really know what's going on.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
Whereas maybe some of these pundits.
Speaker 4 (24:46):
Look at it, well, you know, I think this team
is the best and they stand on that, and so
to them, maybe that maybe the maybe the markers a
little bit different and they don't take into a count
the roster and so if somebody like a Clemson they look.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
At it and go, like last year, they look at
it and go, well, they're there. To me, I'm gonna
I'm I'm projecting them to.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
Go to the National champion Championship because we heard some
of that last year. I saw people on this very
television looking at it and going, yeah, Clemsons could be
national champs. That's who I have penciled in, Like, that's
who I think. I wonder if they as Clemson takes
a step back because you look at the roster, if
they're looking at it going well, yeah, I guess you know,
with nil and everything, it is hard to figure out
(25:29):
these rosters, or if they're just looking at and go wow,
all right, well I bought Undia, Clemson and and and
you just fell off.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
And that's on you, like you know.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
There's no doubt that there's you know, you don't want
to have I guess quote unquote egg on your face.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
Yea, so to speak.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
And I do get that, but you can't let that,
oh I agree affect you. Yes, and uh, of course
I know you understand what I'm describing there, but I
just don't understand it. Again, if we're going to view
it from the college football playoff era, Yeah, I mean,
(26:08):
how can Indiana And you know I'm a proponent of Indiana.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
They should be number one, right, but you're coming It
shouldn't even be a question. But small sample size, Yes.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
You can't look at Indiana and say they're one of
the most underrated teams we've seen in the college Football
Playoff era because they were number.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
Twenty and rose in a dramatic fashion.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
Yea in one year, and now I know the previous
year they did make the College Football Playoff.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
I do understand that.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
But that's just two years of data that we're going
off of where Clemson for a long time, and it
sounds like I'm picking on just Indiana and Clemson. I'm
just given those examples just in terms of Hey, look
at Clemson.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
Last year.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
They were number four and they dropped out of the
top twenty five. So now they're considered one of the
most overrated teams in the college football Playoff era, and
I'm trying to understand how is that possible? That just
doesn't make a whole lot of sense from that standpoint,
And that's.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
Where I just get a little frustrated. Yeah, it is.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
It is.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
I find it kind of funny.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
That a lot of the talk when you come to
these poles, I feel like they.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
Look at these teams.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
It's it's funny because you get some teams that I
feel like they look at in a vacuum.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
And for that, I mean you look at Indiana and go, wow, Wow,
they were really good.
Speaker 4 (27:34):
Last year, and so they have to be underrated because
you know, and they look at this small sample size
sam with Clemson, go wow, well Clemson fell off last year,
they've got to be terrible this year. So you but
then they give this weird benefit of the doubt, and
part of that obviously is the brand. But then it's
like you get these these small little sample sizes where
they make these snap judgments on certain teams, and then
you go to like an Alabama and go, yeah, I mean,
(27:56):
I know they weren't great last year, but also like
it's alib I look at what they've done, And I'm like, well,
look at what Indiana's done, look at what Clemson has done. Right,
If you're going to look at it one way, why
wouldn't you look at it that way? For the entirety
of the teams there that you're putting in the top
twenty five. But it seems and again it's the brands, and.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Well they've earned that. It's the brands.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
But some get the benefit of history and others get
the benefit of well yeah, but i mean, look what
they did last year.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
I'm like, okay, but what about the year before that?
What about the year before that?
Speaker 2 (28:24):
Yeah, that's right, and that's my only point, and so
I'd love to hear from some of the listeners out there.
Eight six four triple seven ninety five ninety three. Do
you have a team that you think, year and year
out is either underrated or overrated? Again, that text line
is eight six four triple seven ninety five ninety three
on the text line, and we did have Antonio chiming
(28:46):
in on the text line saying, I still can't understand
how Ohio State and Oregon both are ranked ahead of
Indiana when Indiana beat both of them last year, especially
Oregon twice, Right, I mean.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
There's something to be sad.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
Yeah, And I think Antonio left out the part Indiana
was undefeated. Yep, Indiana the national champions. Yep, Indiana has
not lost yet, so right, I mean, like everybody's in
the same boat in terms of roster turnover. Oh yeah,
(29:26):
and Indiana's number six.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
Just where they felt like putting them. Sometimes it feels
like that. Yeah, I don't know, I know, but it
feels about right. Yes, so we're going to say number six.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
But they're also they're the one of the most underrated
teams since twenty fourteen.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Hey, didn't you rate them exactly? That was you, Well
you've got them number six? Yeah, who are you talking about?
Put them higher? You can move it?
Speaker 2 (29:55):
I mean yeah, so yeah, Antonio, I agree with you.
I've been saying it. And this is just continuing another
example where I'm just amazed as far as how we
view some of these poles. And remember, this is part
(30:16):
of it. This is part of talking season. Don't get
me wrong. I love some of the banter that we
can have. It's just sometimes it doesn't come across as logical.
And that's my only point. And I do wonder is
there how much of this is just trying to I
(30:40):
don't know if this is the right word manufacture content
and I'm not saying clickbait. And maybe there's a little
bit of that hot tape whatever it is. I mean,
where is that where a lot of this is Maybe
not a lot, but is that part of Is that
a factor into where we are with some of these poles?
Speaker 4 (30:59):
Hey, look, I could see it. Let's put it that way.
You drop Indiana the sixth, and then you you also
come out in the same breath saying, well we put
Indiana at six, they're underrated. That to me feels a
little manufactured, and like keeping Alabama up there is like, yeah,
we know Alabama is a talking point. We've got to
(31:21):
keep them in the cycle. Basically, you know, people are
gonna love.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
Them or hate them. You got Alabama fans are gonna go, man,
well wow.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
Wow, they're way too low and you're gonna go we
have people that hate Alabama to go why are.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
They even here? What have they done? What is you know?
So I get it.
Speaker 4 (31:37):
I think there is it's probably a good bit of
data points. I'm sure that whatever their metrics are that
they that they determined this on, obviously they have they
have a metric.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
But I wouldn't be.
Speaker 4 (31:49):
Surprised if they looked at Indiana and goes, hey, we
could we drop them just a little bit.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
And see what people say. Yes, I could see it.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
In life, there's no doubt people have agendas. We've seen it.
And so I'm not going to sell anything short that
there's some people that you know, have certain agendas, whatever
it might be. And I'm not saying specifically that of course,
oh yes, that you know that there's you know, a
(32:22):
situation playing out that they want certain narratives out there.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
But at the end of the day, things are going
to get settled on.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
The field, and then I think there needs to be
almost a reset that, oh, how have you voted? Be
able to own up to it, and man, I miss that,
and that's where I don't know if we ever hear
from some of the entities, you know, like I did
(32:55):
see the list out there, and I need to see
if I can find it again. But to Indiana, I
think they received five or six first place votes.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
Oh yeah, you went over this, Yeah yeah, and I
was going.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
I found the site that identified so it gave you
everybody and the ap that voted.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
Oh, and so you could see how they.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Voted for every team, and you know, in the in
the top twenty five, and so it was almost like, okay,
here's five or six people that at least had Indiana
number one. Yeah, but it was just amazing that so
many other people didn't. But it's all about the what
(33:39):
you're talking about previously, I think something in terms of
the brands, and Indiana's.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
Just not a brand yet.
Speaker 4 (33:47):
No, it was just not you earn that you do.
And to your point about kind of coming back and
owning it, I feel like, unfortunately that's kind of just the.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Nature of what you're saying. Yeah, it's just kind of
the nature of media in general, is be loud, be wrong,
and move on. I mean it really is.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
I mean, how many do you really see come back
and go, well, you know, I was wrong about that, Like,
it doesn't happen as often as I feel like it
probably should.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
I mean, they're they yeah, but I'm not saying that, Oh,
I'm holier than thou or whatever. And you know that
I always identify you know, my missus or whatever. But
I'm and I don't. But I'm not afraid if it
comes up, because there's some times, you know, in all reality,
I forget right, yeah, like, and that's why I'm trying
(34:34):
to do a better job now moving forward. And that's
why I'm keeping some of these lists talking about, hey,
let's revisit this at the end of the season, which
I yeah, and see how different you know, things might
have looked. But I know for several situations, like I
didn't think Lamar Jackson would be a good NFL quarterback.
(34:57):
I didn't even think Joe Burrow would be that good
of a quarterback. And maybe the verdict is still out.
To be honest with you, with Joe Burrow. And I'm
not trying to have a hot take right here either,
but I mean he came out hot and okay, he's
still he's got to live up to some of the expectations.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
And I'm not saying I can't. I think he's I'm
I'm saying it that.
Speaker 2 (35:21):
There's a small percentage chance that he's not going to
excel it is my point.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
Yeah, I could see that. And there's also it Actually
it was this show somebody texted in I don't know
if you remember this compared and Joe Burrow's stats to
Dak Prescott's, and that was my moment where I look
at it and I started looking at Joe Burrow.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
Like like, woh, okay, all right.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
That made me think a little bit and I was like, yeah, hey,
maybe they're onto something there a little bit now. I mean,
obviously you've got some injuries that have played part in
Joe Burrow, but I mean Dak's been banged up too.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
Oh yeah, yeah, So I don't know.
Speaker 4 (35:53):
That's where I first started looking at it, going huh,
I don't know, Like I like Joe Burrow, yes, but aye,
but he's got some great weapons, that's right.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
He does, he does, all right.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Before we hit this break, we also need to look
at some of the latest headlines.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
It's only one game, and that's to take care of mine.
Hitting the latest headlines. It's the Daily Rundown, all.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Right, The Daily Rundown, brought to you by Tuck and
Howell Plumbing, Heating and Air. And according to Front Office
Sports and David Rumsey, who we've had on the show
and we're going to have him on the show next
week when we're down in Atlanta East Lake for the
tour Championship. Live Golf in their future, the CEO Scott
O'Neill is quoted today as saying in terms of there's
(36:46):
several unpaid vendors right now, he's saying, we're doing everything
we can to make sure we can do right by them.
He's quoted also talking about Live's next generation will certainly
be a different business, and then on the bankruptcy aspect
of Live Golf, he says, I don't think we would
(37:07):
rule out any option.
Speaker 1 (37:10):
End quote.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
Wow, not good as we saw. I mean, their championship
has been canceled. Live Golf is in a precarious situation
right now, and we did have some news that just
dropped a few minutes ago. Dan Murphy with ESPN has
mentioned that there's a story that's going to be coming
out with Pete Fammel that a judge in Louisiana has
(37:31):
granted a group that includes sixteen football players, including several
that were in NFL training camps this summer, a restraining
order that would allow them to return to college sports
this season. We're seeing more and more of these lawsuits
and yeah, get ready for it all right in the NFL. Also,
(37:53):
Texans wide receiver Jaden Higgins suffered a torn ACL in
Tuesday's practice, So again we're seeing these injuries continue to
pile up.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
The Saints running back Alvin.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
Kamara, he's expected to miss at least a month with
an MCL sprain. Yeah, so things are Uh, the injuries
are starting to pile up.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
From that perspective, I know it, that's right.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
And then also, how about this in the NFL, This
is a good commercial, uh, and said Treya, I think
you have the clip of this Sunday Night Football on NBC. Okay,
things are kicking off Patriots in Seahawks September ninth, and
here's the promo for it.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
This would be a good game, definitely. Oh oh, guess
what day the NFL kickoff is?
Speaker 3 (38:44):
Huh?
Speaker 1 (38:44):
Anybody, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, what day is NFL
kickoff today? Earlier?
Speaker 2 (38:49):
We know?
Speaker 1 (38:50):
Yeah, thanks, Chris, I'm asking Mike. Come on, Mike, it's
another name for Wednesday. Just say it. Hump Day, homp
DAYMP day, kickoff. Yeah, where's Tomlin?
Speaker 2 (39:02):
Patriots Seahawks NFL kickoff on NBC and Peacock.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
Mike, Mike, Mike mi NFL midweek hump Day.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
Of course, everybody remembers that commercial and great job, Mike, Jerico,
Chris Collinsworth and we got to see a little bit
of a cameo appearance there by Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 1 (39:22):
How about that?
Speaker 2 (39:23):
That's right, Wednesday, September ninth, seven pm on NBC and Peacock.
All right, that is the Daily Rundown, brought to you
by Tuck and how Plumbing, Heating and Air. And I

My friend?
Speaker 5 (40:11):
What's going on? Rich Tree Man? You was talking about intros. Man,
I'm gonna step out of the box a little bit
and tell you one of my favorite intros. And you
got to be there and you got to see it live,
because TV does not do it justice whatsoever.
Speaker 1 (40:27):
Tell us.
Speaker 5 (40:27):
But man, when you in the stands and the Grand
Marshall says, gentlemen, start your engines and all forty into
something of them, nascars roared alife. Yes, man, it is
amazing to hear that. Hear the thunder that just comes
out of their motors. Man, And it gets even better
when they throw the green flag and they're coming around
(40:48):
turn four and you hear all four car barrels open
up on them, carburetors, go full throttle, all them motor Man,
it is something through the hold. Man, Hey, I do justice.
You got to see it live. Man, it is freaking amazing.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
I do not disagree with you at all, Chad. That
was a experience. I've been to Charlotte Motor Speedway in
Atlanta and I've been standing there in the stands and
when they do that, I mean, it is crazy the
chills that you get. So I know exactly what you're
talking about. And I hadn't even thought about that, Chad,
(41:26):
because I was thinking more of in college sports or
you know, the NFL. But yeah, there's no doubt that's
a different experience. And you said it. You nailed it.
You have to be there in person because it's louder
than you think, and the boom is much more impactful
than you think when they start their engines.
Speaker 5 (41:45):
TV does no justice.
Speaker 1 (41:49):
None whatsoever.
Speaker 5 (41:51):
You can't even it's not even comparison.
Speaker 2 (41:54):
That's man.
Speaker 5 (41:55):
You can fill it in your chest in your bowls.
Speaker 1 (41:58):
Man, that's sir.
Speaker 5 (42:00):
Just take I mean, I can take your breath a
little bit. Man, noise, you ain't hearing what the guy
besides you saying no, you're not, but I.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
Can promise you that that is a certain Hey, Chad,
you stay cool out there, man, We got to hit
this break at the top of the hour. We appreciate
you calling in though, will do rich trade man.

conversation also again at number is eight sixty four two
four zero five four eight zero. All right, we do

You can skip the music, mister falco in here. On
August the nineteenth, man, this month is flying by. I
can tell you that nineteen oh nine. Let's go ahead
(42:42):
and talk about some motor racing. The first race is
held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and twelve thousand spectators
watched and the average speed was fifty seven miles per
hour in nineteen oh nine. Yeah, okay, there we go.
That's crazy. Twenty and sixteen. On August the nineteenth, Usain
(43:05):
Bolt would score another sweep, winning three gold medals in
his third consecutive Olympics at the Rio de Janeiro Games. Again,
three consecutive Olympics with three gold medals. Yeah, no, doubt
Usain Bolt, the fastest man alive.
Speaker 1 (43:23):
At least he was all right. That is OTD.
Speaker 2 (43:26):
And that is this Wednesday edition of the Richmond Weaver Show,
presented by Ingles Markets. We'll talk to you tomorrow.
