at the Sedgefield Country Club, part of the Windham Championship

of the PGA Tour, and golfers on the PGA Tour
chasing the cut, trying to not only have the opportunity
of playing this weekend, but also can they make a
run to get into the top seventy, which ultimately is
the seventy players that have the opportunity of making the

playoffs because you have to make the cut of seventy,
and then after the following week it'll be whittled down
to fifty players that will make the next round, and
then after that it will be thirty players that have
the opportunity of competing for the tour championship. So this
is basically the last tournament part of the regular season

so to speak. Mister Falco as getting ready for golf
playoffs oh so close. After this weekend, will know the
top seventy, Yes, exactly. So it adds a little drama.
Oh yeah, adds a little excitement. And that's why, you know,
I love coming up here to the Window Championship because
there is that extra drama and there is the opportunity

of seeing some of the best golfers in the world
because they're all trying to advance and move up, you know,
the board so to speak, in terms of their quote
unquote seeding from that perspective as far as making the
playoffs and being in that top seventy and ultimately having

the opportunity to compete down there at East Lake at
the end of the month, to win at the FedEx
Cup Tour Championship and a big payday that is for certain,
over ten million dollars. Okay, that's not bad. The purse
here at the Window Championship it's eight and a half
million dollars. I mean that's a lot. You get over

a million dollars, yes, if you win, but if you
win the Tour Championship just by yourself, you get over
ten million dollars. So it is a significant jump, that.

Is for certain. But we're having a beautiful day here.

We've got some nice cloud cover the wind is picking
up a little bit, so it's pristine type of conditions
unless you're out on the golf course with some of
the wind. Maybe that might be affecting some of these golfers,
but I think the rain is going to hold off
from that perspective. But got to see Cam Young earlier
this morning, Alex Fitzpatrick, also Justin Thomas. They were all

paired together that threesome, So that was great. Ben Coles
who we've had on the show before where he won
the BMW charity program presented by TD sin X. He's
at four under for the day, shooting at sixty six,
so yes, let's go. And also Austin Smotherman, who we've

had on the show before as well. He's at four under.
So there's a lot of good golf that's being played
from guys that we've had connections with. But Brooks Koepka
he's at three under. That's a name we haven't talked
about in quite a while because he's made the transition
back to the PGA Tour after his stint there with

liv Golf. Hadeki Matsiyama's here, he's at three under. Alex
Smalley's at three under. Just running down the list for
some of these other guys. Lucas Glover, former Clemson golfer,
he just walked by and he's trying to stay in contention.
You've got Michael Kim at two under. There's just a

whole host of guys. Aaron Rise at one under, and
we also talked about Cam Young had a little struggle today.
He did, but he's going to try to bounce back tomorrow's.
He missed a birdie putt that would have given him
an even score today, so he's at plus one. Jordan
Spieth at minus one also who I got to see

for a little bit out on the driving range, and
it's just a different level, Trey, just a different level.
I don't understand how you Yes, I just don't understand
how you get to that point where you can hit
the golf ball the way they do. Of course, I
know it's from hard work, it's from a perspective of

being touched by God in a certain way that you
have this talent. But it's the combination the hard work
the talent coming together, and that's the beauty of it.
That's again, I think that's why we love sports because
you get to see some of these performances and get
to see greatness. And that's what I love. And that's why,

you know, I loved watching Michael Jordan. I loved watching
Magic Johnson, Larry Bird. You you throw all these names,
the Tom Brady's, the Joe Montana's, the Troy Yeateman's.

Uh, the Roger Stallbacks.

I'm yeah, throwing a bunch of names there in terms
of Cowboys football because we're so close to football, but
of course the Michael Jordan's of the world, and in golf,
the Tiger Woods, you know those type of guys. And
a Scottie Scheffler now, you know, can he have the
same opportunity of creating you know, some type of legacy.

Rory McElroy, you know all of those names. I just
love being present and being inside the world of sports
when you're seeing greatness. And that's why this is no
disrespect to some of the other greats that we've seen,
you know, like a dip Butt Gish as we heard

Rocky talking about, and you know, a Gale Sayers or
you can look you know to the NBA, like a
Wilt Chamberlain. I just didn't see them play, so I
don't I don't have the same intimate level of connection
as you do with what's currently going on, and especially
some of these Hall of famers that are going into
the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend. I've got

a connection to those players because I watched their career,
and I think that just gives you a different familiarity
with them, a different I guess viewpoint, and a different
understanding of what their careers are and why they should

be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, because I
don't have a problem with any of these guys. They
all are Hall of famers in my opinion one percent.

And going back to what you're talking about with sports
and greatness, I mean, it's almost the closest we can
get on this earth to just watching superhumans do things
would just some of the I you think about golf
with the pinpoint accuracy and the poise that they have,
or you flip over to the NBA and some of
the high flying dunks that they're doing, and just the
the insane shots that they're making with a basketball or

even with football with the car crashes every play. I mean,
it's it's insane watching some of these people just do
what they do out there, either on the court or
the field or the pitch or whatever it is that
they're playing on.

It's insane to watch it.

And yes, I think there is that inherent like even
even I mean, obviously what you grew up on, but
there is a little bit of that inherent recency bias
where we look at it and like that's just what
we know. It's it's easy to sort of, I don't
want to say, forget the greatness of those that have
gone by, but maybe to overlook it or to downplay

it just because of what we're seeing today. And and
and that is kind of what modern day not only
football I was gonna say NFL, but kind of sports
in a nutshell has become this never ending highlight.

That it's just that's that almost seem to be the
only thing that we're focused on, and we don't care
about you know, oh well, like we don't care about
the small yards in football, Like that's it's cool that
you got three yards on a run. Great, and it's
great that you can do that, but come on, give me,
give me the guy that can go over the top,
take the you know, take somebody's head off and get
the play down field.

and this is a guy it was. Yes, he had

not always be flashy. And I think that's why, to

a tournament director, standpoint BECAUSE i know when you see
everything that is put up, here all of the things
that it looks, like oh it was just so.

Exactly walk through just that process of what it really
takes to put on A Pga tour, event and one
like here At Sedgefield Country.

Club The Window championship fifty one, weeks not fifty. Two
is fifty one. Weeks so, literally you, know you tear
it all. Down it's it's it's the same process year over.
Year you tear it, down you do your post mortems
and all that good, stuff and then you plan it
all over. Again what are the good, things what are
the bad? Things what are we going to? Change you
might change some, vendors you, know. Whatever nothing's ever exactly

CADDIES Pg tour, staff et, cetera et, cetera the ones
that actually do go out and see every other event
every week of the, year when they talk about how
great this is and that we don't get a chance
to play golf courses like this very often because and

it seems like it's a tired, conversation but it's it's
refreshing when you actually do hear those, people especially the.

Caddies, yes say it's great BECAUSE i had to hit
every club in my. BAG i can't remember which player
was you've even said the other. DAY i think it
might've Been Ben griffin actually SAID i had to hit
every club in my bag at least.

Twice and, see and that is a players for a
lot OF i should say a. Lot but some of
these other, courses they get, bored and so when they're saying,
that that's a.

There was also discussion about these greens and how fast they,
are and by the weekend they, said by, far these
are the top two or three greens on the ENTIRE
Pga tour.

THAT i, mean we're great partners here With Sedgefield Country
club and that that one hundred year heritage is. Special
not everybody has. That and to your, point you, know
they're trying to build these golf courses that are you,
know a mile long on every fairway and just see
how far they can hit. It but it really is
fun and, refreshing and you, know you just look at
it on paper and this golf course is just over

seven thousand, yards so you look at it and, Think,
okay this is gonna be a cake. Walk but they
all tell you because they all talk about the, rough
the rough is no.

Far you, know you say what you want about us
open rough and that's really that's really apples and oranges
because it's a different kind of grass. Here you don't
have be six in is because in The bermuda it
just settles straight down to the bottom and it's such

kind of What sedgefield's known for when you compare it
to OTHER pga who are.

Courses, yes he Is Bobby, powell tournament director here at
The Wyndham, championship and how much do you lean on
getting some of that information from? Players AND i, MEAN
i know you're taking everything, in you, know from you,
know you evaluate at the end of the, tournament but
are you getting feed specific feedback and utilizing that from

the players and the caddies? Themselves, Yeah AND.
Speaker 5 (18:34):
I would say as a, tournament you, know we don't
control that a tremendous. AMOUNT a lot of that's probably
more on the agronomous and the. Superintendents there are definitely
post tournament reports in that regard as, well and so
there's little tweaks and recommendations that are made from that.
Standpoint our job mostly is the circus around the golf.

WELL i can see on the lanyard it says big,
golf bigger. Fun so that is definitely a big part of.

It that's, right That's windom, right, yes.

Exactly so talk about then how you guys get creative
in how each year you're trying to maybe take the next,
step but also making sure that you're still focused on
the foundation and the principles that have made this tournament
so successful for so.

It so you do have some of those things Like Marguerite,
deville and we're very fortunate to be able to partner
with them on so many. Things but then you have
great partner In wyndham who does want to come out.
Here So Windam rewards takes this on every year and, says,
okay what can we do, differently what can we do
better from an en course activation, standpoint and so it

is a collaborative process with. Us we work in concert
with them to figure out things that the spectators can,
enjoy whether it's all this sance. Sculpture so, again when
we figured out how popular and how iconic those, were
those have been around ever since.

Then so you have some of the those.

Standards but then you take opportunities like this, year for,
example through The travel And leisure, partnership they have Icons
lounge By Sports Illustrated, resorts so that's under the family of.

Brands and then you Have paradise on Seven.

Green Margaritaville Vacation clubs is partnering with us on. That
so those are two of our new. Venues and again
it's those are all part Of. Windom when you actually
think about the big, picture and they're great spots, there you,
know whether it's one that's an air conditioned space that
you can hit closest to the pin, contests or on Seven,

green it's just this beautiful old long part three and
everybody's out there waiting for a hole in. One and
then you take some of those pieces and parts Of
margaritaville here and you put it on the golf course
and so it's it's fun working with them every. Year
the beach is always one of those signature. Pieces but
even the, beach even though it's in the same spot every,
year it looks a little different every. Year SO cbs

does a really good job coming in and out of
commercials and showcasing that in different.

other things that you have an opportunity on you kind

as what you're trying to, do, yes all, Right so
what's more impressive the golfers how good they, are or
the sand, sculptors.

here and play and try to HIT i have. Not
if you tried to hit like a seven or eight

sculpture what's interesting about, that there's almost like a glue
type substance that goes on and, one so once it's
once it's actually, sculpted once the artwork is, done it
stays that. Way so several years, ago when the hurricane
remnants came, through you, know we we were in tough
shape with some of the other activations on the golf
course and the tents and, this that and the.

Other the sand sculptures were.

Perfect there you, go because really by the time the week's,
over it's almost like they have a concrete type effect
to them with that.

GO i can definitely understand, That BUT i do need
to try to get out here at some point to
play this BECAUSE i mean it is pristine from that,
standpoint AND i just love the history behind it with
one hundred, years and it's also it's great that you
have like A Brent seneker coming, back you, know a
two time winner and talk about then WHAT i think

is also so unique is that this is the last
time these guys trying to get in the top seventy
so quote unquote getting into the, playoffs so to. Speak
AND i think that's what makes The Window championship even
more unique because you have the ability to draw.

Right we've had that storyline and you'll see it on
the broadcast throughout the week actually even you know. TOMORROW
i think the probably even doing it today as we,
speak but as each day goes, by they'll probably go
to that more and more and like you can see that.
Live oh, yes you, know it's it's it's pretty fun
to see. That that's been our. Storyline that's kind of
been our Our, yeah that's been our it's been our

motto really with this tournament for quite a while since
we've gotten This august, date and there was you, know
some people scuffled about it's it's pretty, warm as you
know this time of, year But, UH a lot of
our a lot of our counterparts are envious to this
date because we do have a, Storyline we have a
specific emphasis to our tournament from it from a competition,

standpoint just like you, mentioned and so we're proud of
that and we embrace. It and you, know you let
the let the players do their thing this. Week you
try not to ask too much of them because, there's
like you, mentioned there's a lot on the. Line, yes you,
know every year that whether it's A Ryder cup year
or A President's cup, Year so there's jockeying for. That
there's jockeying for their membership, cards there's jockeying for the

top seventy for all the implications the following year for signature,
events and on and on and on and on and.
On so there's a lot of importance here that it
has been built up throughout the year to get to this.

are nice new features that have been added in recent.

and then after the following week it'll be whittled down
to fifty players that will make the next round, and
then after that it will be thirty players that have
the opportunity of competing for the tour championship. So this
is basically the last tournament part of the regular season

so to speak. Mister Falco as getting ready for golf
playoffs oh so close. After this weekend, will know the
top seventy, Yes, exactly. So it adds a little drama.
Oh yeah, adds a little excitement. And that's why, you know,
I love coming up here to the Window Championship because
there is that extra drama and there is the opportunity

of seeing some of the best golfers in the world
because they're all trying to advance and move up, you know,
the board so to speak, in terms of their quote
unquote seeding from that perspective as far as making the
playoffs and being in that top seventy and ultimately having

the opportunity to compete down there at East Lake at
the end of the month, to win at the FedEx
Cup Tour Championship and a big payday that is for certain,
over ten million dollars. Okay, that's not bad. The purse
here at the Window Championship it's eight and a half
million dollars. I mean that's a lot. You get over

a million dollars, yes, if you win, but if you
win the Tour Championship just by yourself, you get over
ten million dollars. So it is a significant jump, that.

So there's a lot of good golf that's being played
from guys that we've had connections with. But Brooks Koepka
he's at three under. That's a name we haven't talked
about in quite a while because he's made the transition
back to the PGA Tour after his stint there with

liv Golf. Hadeki Matsiyama's here, he's at three under. Alex
Smalley's at three under. Just running down the list for
some of these other guys. Lucas Glover, former Clemson golfer,
he just walked by and he's trying to stay in contention.
You've got Michael Kim at two under. There's just a

whole host of guys. Aaron Rise at one under, and
we also talked about Cam Young had a little struggle today.
He did, but he's going to try to bounce back tomorrow's.
He missed a birdie putt that would have given him
an even score today, so he's at plus one. Jordan
Spieth at minus one also who I got to see

for a little bit out on the driving range, and
it's just a different level, Trey, just a different level.
I don't understand how you Yes, I just don't understand
how you get to that point where you can hit
the golf ball the way they do. Of course, I
know it's from hard work, it's from a perspective of

being touched by God in a certain way that you
have this talent. But it's the combination the hard work
the talent coming together, and that's the beauty of it.
That's again, I think that's why we love sports because
you get to see some of these performances and get
to see greatness. And that's what I love. And that's why,

you know, I loved watching Michael Jordan. I loved watching
Magic Johnson, Larry Bird. You you throw all these names,
the Tom Brady's, the Joe Montana's, the Troy Yeateman's.

I'm yeah, throwing a bunch of names there in terms
of Cowboys football because we're so close to football, but
of course the Michael Jordan's of the world, and in golf,
the Tiger Woods, you know those type of guys. And
a Scottie Scheffler now, you know, can he have the
same opportunity of creating you know, some type of legacy.

Rory McElroy, you know all of those names. I just
love being present and being inside the world of sports
when you're seeing greatness. And that's why this is no
disrespect to some of the other greats that we've seen,
you know, like a dip Butt Gish as we heard

Rocky talking about, and you know, a Gale Sayers or
you can look you know to the NBA, like a
Wilt Chamberlain. I just didn't see them play, so I
don't I don't have the same intimate level of connection
as you do with what's currently going on, and especially
some of these Hall of famers that are going into
the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend. I've got

a connection to those players because I watched their career,
and I think that just gives you a different familiarity
with them, a different I guess viewpoint, and a different
understanding of what their careers are and why they should

be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, because I
don't have a problem with any of these guys. They
all are Hall of famers in my opinion one percent.

And going back to what you're talking about with sports
and greatness, I mean, it's almost the closest we can
get on this earth to just watching superhumans do things
would just some of the I you think about golf
with the pinpoint accuracy and the poise that they have,
or you flip over to the NBA and some of
the high flying dunks that they're doing, and just the
the insane shots that they're making with a basketball or

even with football with the car crashes every play. I mean,
it's it's insane watching some of these people just do
what they do out there, either on the court or
the field or the pitch or whatever it is that
they're playing on.

It's insane to watch it.

And yes, I think there is that inherent like even
even I mean, obviously what you grew up on, but
there is a little bit of that inherent recency bias
where we look at it and like that's just what
we know. It's it's easy to sort of, I don't
want to say, forget the greatness of those that have
gone by, but maybe to overlook it or to downplay

it just because of what we're seeing today. And and
and that is kind of what modern day not only
football I was gonna say NFL, but kind of sports
in a nutshell has become this never ending highlight.

only thing that we're focused on, and we don't care
about you know, oh well, like we don't care about

take the you know, take somebody's head off and get
the play down field.

Year you tear it, down you do your post mortems
and all that good, stuff and then you plan it

refreshing when you actually do hear those, people especially the.

Caddies, yes say it's great BECAUSE i had to hit

lot OF i should say a. Lot but some of
these other, courses they get, bored and so when they're saying,

There was also discussion about these greens and how fast they,
are and by the weekend they, said by, far these
are the top two or three greens on the ENTIRE

THAT i, mean we're great partners here With Sedgefield Country
club and that that one hundred year heritage is. Special
not everybody has. That and to your, point you, know
they're trying to build these golf courses that are you,
know a mile long on every fairway and just see
how far they can hit. It but it really is
fun and, refreshing and you, know you just look at
it on paper and this golf course is just over

seven thousand, yards so you look at it and, Think,
okay this is gonna be a cake. Walk but they
all tell you because they all talk about the, rough
the rough is no.

open rough and that's really that's really apples and oranges
because it's a different kind of grass. Here you don't
have be six in is because in The bermuda it

kind of What sedgefield's known for when you compare it
to OTHER pga who are.

Courses, yes he Is Bobby, powell tournament director here at
The Wyndham, championship and how much do you lean on
getting some of that information from? Players AND i, MEAN
i know you're taking everything, in you, know from you,
know you evaluate at the end of the, tournament but
are you getting feed specific feedback and utilizing that from

the players and the caddies? Themselves, Yeah AND.

I would say as a, tournament you, know we don't
control that a tremendous. AMOUNT a lot of that's probably
more on the agronomous and the. Superintendents there are definitely
post tournament reports in that regard as, well and so
there's little tweaks and recommendations that are made from that.
Standpoint our job mostly is the circus around the golf.

WELL i can see on the lanyard it says big,
golf bigger. Fun so that is definitely a big part of.

Exactly so talk about then how you guys get creative
in how each year you're trying to maybe take the next,
step but also making sure that you're still focused on
the foundation and the principles that have made this tournament
so successful for so.

It so you do have some of those things Like Marguerite,
deville and we're very fortunate to be able to partner
with them on so many. Things but then you have

okay what can we do, differently what can we do
better from an en course activation, standpoint and so it

is a collaborative process with. Us we work in concert
with them to figure out things that the spectators can,
enjoy whether it's all this sance. Sculpture so, again when
we figured out how popular and how iconic those, were
those have been around ever since.

Standards but then you take opportunities like this, year for,

green it's just this beautiful old long part three and
everybody's out there waiting for a hole in. One and
then you take some of those pieces and parts Of
margaritaville here and you put it on the golf course
and so it's it's fun working with them every. Year
the beach is always one of those signature. Pieces but
even the, beach even though it's in the same spot every,

type substance that goes on and, one so once it's
once it's actually, sculpted once the artwork is, done it

over it's almost like they have a concrete type effect

is also so unique is that this is the last
time these guys trying to get in the top seventy

to see. That that's been our. Storyline that's kind of

motto really with this tournament for quite a while since
we've gotten This august, date and there was you, know
some people scuffled about it's it's pretty, warm as you
know this time of, year But, UH a lot of
our a lot of our counterparts are envious to this
date because we do have a, Storyline we have a
specific emphasis to our tournament from it from a competition,

standpoint just like you, mentioned and so we're proud of
that and we embrace. It and you, know you let
the let the players do their thing this. Week you
try not to ask too much of them because, there's
like you, mentioned there's a lot on the. Line, yes you,
know every year that whether it's A Ryder cup year
or A President's cup, Year so there's jockeying for. That
there's jockeying for their membership, cards there's jockeying for the

top seventy for all the implications the following year for signature,
events and on and on and on and on and.
On so there's a lot of importance here that it
has been built up throughout the year to get to this.
