On the horse capital of the world. It's Horsetails with
ursul ellis such. Come we'll talk about the horses, the
feofle and the history of the thoroughbred industry.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Hold away any secretary of that Win's.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
The light two and a half ways now live from
Kentucky's Bluegrass region. Here's Ursul.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Good morning everyone, and we are right in the middle
of the Bluegrass region here in Bourbon County as far
as that goes. No snow to look at yet this morning,
and they.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Were predicting snow and all that kind of stuff for Sunday.
But I just looked and it's it's out of the forecast.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
It's cold, it's cold, but no snow.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
But no snow. I went and yesterday and they said
snow today.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
They took it away. It's been a kind of unseasonably
warm here in the last week.
Speaker 5 (04:21):
And yes, it's I don't care for that too, warm stuff,
not during Christmas, after after the first.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Of the year. I'm for warm.
Speaker 5 (04:29):
Oh yeah, during during Christmas or something nice about cold
and a little snow was kind of nice. Yeah, it was.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
They were supposed to, they said snowshot.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
I guess they got it all up east. Yes, I've
got big problems there.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Yeah. And then in southern California they've got floods.
Speaker 5 (04:47):
Well, al, we should count our blessings.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Yes, isn't that the truth? Well, please flood on this hill.
Speaker 5 (04:53):
You're not going to flood here. Now, this is where
Noah's ark.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Well we look at the back door and see Cooper's
room little back down through there.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
That ever plooded that we're too high up to flood.
But anyway, anyway, glad to be here.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
Nice Christmas I had. We were just chatting before the show. Uh, big,
big news in the Nicholson household. Here we are on
the verge of a new arrival, a soon to be
eight week cold dij La puppy, and I'm just all
(05:31):
all excited about it. I had a visil of many
years ago named Greta Garbo, Oh cute, and Greta and
I were big buddies. And so my wife surprised me, says, well,
there's going to be a going to be a new one,
oh cute. Is that's the only dog that will be
the only only dogs female? You know, that was a
big compromise. Compromise is important in marriage, as I'm told.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
And no, no, no, you stand your ground.
Speaker 5 (06:00):
Well, Missus Nicholson subscribes to your way of thinking. Hey,
but the the so Missus Nicholson has always preferred rock Wiler's.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Is that right?
Speaker 5 (06:10):
I have another friend, Roddy, Roddy, Yeah, yeah, Roddy, is
this and and I I've always I love this feast
left at these Hungarian bird dogs, and I wanted, you know,
a male companion go out to the farm with me.
I have a lot of females in my world. You
know that I need a buddy that I can talk to.
(06:30):
Man the man and and missus Nicholson prefers females. So
the compromise was, I get the breed I like, but
but we'll have the gender she likes. But I like
the female. Good female dogs are great too.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
So well, have you got a name picked out? Oh?
Speaker 5 (06:47):
No, we're still in that I we're still in that process.
We got it whittled down to about fifteen. You know,
we've been going yeah, exactly exactly.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
But when you don't have the jockey clubs, yeah the
jack the.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
Jockey club can't yeah, I can't, can't veto it. But
we've been going through, uh, Hungarian female names, and they're
a whole lot like American.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Names really, So they're Hungarian.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
They're Hungarians where they come they come from. Yeah, they
got exactly. She'll bark with an accent, you know, uh,
but they're real. They're think of like a wine wrimmer,
maybe a little greyhound kind of. They're kind of slender, athletic. Uh.
They love water, they love you know, they point, they'll
(07:40):
point to birds and stuff like that. So they're hunting dogs.
They're hunting dogs.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Really.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
I mean, I'm not gonna hunt her, but they're high energy,
but but affectionate and fun and expressive. And we you know,
we've got a lot, We've got some acreage to let
her run and so we'll be.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
The only Hungarian thing I can think of.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
It's a shop around the corner.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
That's that was in Budapest.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
Oh okay, okay.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
So I can't but I can't think of anything female
names in that Mister what was his name? That owned
the the shop?
Speaker 6 (08:18):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (08:18):
And shop around the corner. And remember, now you expect
me to remember Darling movie they had it on topic.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
I remember my own names. Yeah, I hadn't seen that movie,
but that will help us. Oh, shopper around the corner.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Okay, yeah, the little chopper around the corner that you
know that kind of a name check. No, I can't
remember now, I've thought about it for three days after
watching the movie.
Speaker 5 (08:44):
But yeah, how that goes well?
Speaker 2 (08:46):
Ursul's got two new great granddaughters. Wow, that old Elis Marie, Yeah,
and she is three months. She's over three months old now.
And Patrick and esther had a little girl and her
name so far as Ruth.
Speaker 5 (09:07):
And you say your mother's name was Ruth, brother was Ruth. Yeah,
and of course Elis is keeping. That's a wonderful name
and keeping them. Yeah, the lineage going and the name going.
So you got to be pleased, Ursel.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
Yeah right. One of them is. One of them lives
in electioningson and we've already been in there to see him,
you know, and.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Pretty as she can be there you go, and so
you know, we're real placed. The other one came a
month thoroughly, but she's perfectly fine, and.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
She's she's living in a whole different place.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
Yes's in Brussels.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
And Brussels so your empire is stretching worldwide.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Yeah, yeah, well actually that's uh Jackie son Patrick, Yes,
he's my mistake.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
She wouldn't tell you the name because it's you know,
it's kind of secret in Spanish.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
She's Spanish.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
And then she came out with Ruts and that was
aamall's name.
Speaker 5 (10:12):
That was kind of nice.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Yeah, that is.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Yeah, anyway, she's a month old So we've had all
kind of face time going on everywhere.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
Well, you know, the European royalty would have big arranged
marriages to put their empires together. And that's what you
you an ursel of time. You know, you're spreading all
these guys a terrible commerson. It's a reach. So house
old Friends, old friends is doing is doing well where
(10:44):
you know, it's Christmas holidays. But Antonio and the and
the guys are making sure the horses are are fed
and happy, and they all had a wonderful Christmas. Michael
made sure everybody got extra missus pastures for good for Christmas,
so they all got a Christmas treat. Santa Claus came
(11:04):
to see them. Oh we did, yes, and the horses
all reacted a little, you know, some loved Santa Claus,
others did not. Yes, you mean a real dressed up
Santa Claus.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
Yes, you know.
Speaker 5 (11:18):
But yeah, I got pictures for you know, social media's
everything these days, so we had to get our pictures,
you know, with the horses and getting creeks from Santa Claus.
Oh that's fun.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Yeah, yeah, I was at let me think I was
at Kroger's about four or five days ago, and I
had this friend shirt on and a couple stopped me
and ask about old friends.
Speaker 5 (11:42):
Yeah, it happens to me all the time, Jackie. I'm
we're all dressed in our old friends regalia. This morning,
I've got my jacket on and I wore this to
go Christmas shop. It was a week ago today. It
was Saturday, and you know, I thought, well it's about
time for me to start my Christmas shopping. And and
I happened to be well both in like the Hamburger
(12:05):
area of Lexington. But I was in midway doing I
like the shop at midway in those little little stores,
and half a dozen people stopped me in the little
village heavily and and just said, well, you know, we
love we love old friends, and you know the horse
as well. Did you just keep doing what you're doing?
How's Michael?
Speaker 3 (12:26):
All those you know, all those Every time I go
to the little it seems like, you know, where this
is what I'm wearing. They are the old friends thing
on it. Somebody stops me.
Speaker 5 (12:36):
Yeah, it's wonderful.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Well, it was funny because this this couple had their
buggy and they had a miniature Schnauzer puppy and their buggy.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
Oh really so yeah, so I had to.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Say, where is the miniature schnauzer uh area where you
you know, in the store? Is it by produce you know?
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Ha ha ha.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
And they ignored that totally and looked told my shirt
and said, are you with old friends? I said, big,
big fan of old friends. Good there, I guess about
ten minutes and they had somebody that might have come
to town there, somebody from Louisville. Yeah, and they said,
where you have got to go? Excuse me, You've got
(13:22):
to go to old friends. That's pretty neat.
Speaker 5 (13:24):
Well it gets it gets universal good reviews, and that's
a tribute to what to what Michael has built. But
it's also a tribute to the volunteers we have there.
And this is I sent a you know, an email
out to them too that that said, you know, thank
you for giving a voice to to these horses into
(13:44):
into old friends and being great storytellers and being great ambassadors.
You know, they're ambassadors not only of old friends, they're
ambassadors not only for the horses, but they are ambassadors
to the sport. And yeah, that's a state. Yeah. And
one thing I say, and I've really been strong on
this since I've been there, is that we are we
(14:06):
are unapologetic, unrelenting uh advocates and non apologists for the
sport of racing, and that we do good things in racing,
and and we love we love to tell the story.
It's and it's a it's a great world to be
a part of. And that we love these horses and
(14:28):
revere what they did, but also just rever them even
if they didn't do anything well.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
And the other thing I always thought of, you know,
there's baseball and football and all these other big sports.
We can't have anything to do with them. We don't
have a good sellion dollars to buy a team. I mean,
we can be a fan, but they don't let us
come into the locker room. But they don't let us
do you know.
Speaker 5 (14:51):
That's right stuff.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
And this is hands on good stuff. That's right, it's
so much better.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
Well, you're right.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
And if you go to Cooperstown, see a lot of
nice things about baseball, but you're not gonna you're not
gonna meet Joe DiMaggio.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (15:07):
You come to old friends, you're gonna you're going to
meet the legends firsthand. And they're happy to meet you,
especially if you've got to carrot, you know, And that's
that's the magic of old friends. So that's I'm getting
my New Year's resolutions together. And of course they're all
gonna revolve a vague one. What's yours. I'm not gonna
(15:29):
make any help there you go?
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Yeah, why make it just to break it?
Speaker 5 (15:36):
I know, I know, and I rarely, But what I
am trying to do with the resolutions is think about
old old friends and what where we you know, we're
sitting here a year from now, where we want What
did I want to say about the good things that
have happened to old old friends? Yeah, so it's kind
of formulating those things. I've got to figure out now
how to get this Uh, this puppy is going to
(15:57):
be a part of the old friends family. Yeah, so
she's gonna you know, she's going to know all the
horses and everything and something to find it Hungarian word
for pony. Oh that's an idea. Yeah, I hope it's
it's something that sounds good.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Yeah, you never know. Yeah, yeah, Matta check it was
mister Maida checks tech door.
Speaker 5 (16:19):
Yeah, gramatic check.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
John.
Speaker 5 (16:21):
We were close, Sol, you were close. So if you
and it's but it's I was thinking of an.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
Old old h State basketball put in hal Chai.
Speaker 5 (16:29):
Check there. You played for the Celtics.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
Yeah, I know he did.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
Yeah his autograph when I was a check.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Was he there when I was sixties?
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (16:39):
He played for the early sixties and then all through
up until the seventies with with the Celtics.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
When I was there, there was Jerry Lucas and have
a check and I mean it was a great team
and uh they went to Cincinnati and the big old.
Speaker 5 (16:55):
Yeah smack him down.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
I felt UK beat him at MoMA.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Is that right?
Speaker 3 (17:01):
Yeah? That was that was a one. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:04):
That was a big, big win for eight often in
those kind of years where he was in between championships. Yeah,
that's fun. It was.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:12):
Cincinnati and Ohio State were dominated there and this was
I was born in fifty nine, so this was about then.
I don't really remember it, but I've read about it. Yeah, uh,
about the time. I guess you were at school there.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Yeah. And of course the famous golfer this name I
could never remember.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
Jack Nicholas.
Speaker 5 (17:33):
Yes, yeah, yeah, he was an Aisle steak guy.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Yeah, you would remember that.
Speaker 5 (17:38):
Yeah, so I think about it kind of close. Our
lineage somewhere goes back to where the Nicholas's and the
Nicholsons was.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Yeah, exactly, i'd claim in. Oh yeah, exactly exactly.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
I don't know if he claimed me.
Speaker 7 (17:51):
But walking across campus and you'd book about a block
or two away and there was this little mob people walk,
walk walk, you know, just uh it was Jack Nicholson
and Da Cholas Nicholas and uh, all.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Of the stands and everybody. For their sport. You know,
you had to have a pe credit.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
Everybody took off.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
Oh okay, so they could say you could go out
and actually catch a glimpse of the guy.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
Whoo, that's fun. Well he was, you know, he kind
of up ended Arnold Palmer's dominance of the sport. And
not everybody loved that at the time. Really, Oh I
didn't know.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Well, he was doing college.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
Yeah, he was kind of the new brash kid. And
and same thing every young golfer when they when they
start toppling the old the old golfers, and not everybody.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
Likes that right away.
Speaker 5 (18:40):
I didn't really, so they become the old golfer and
then they's a star. Jenna and I went, we were
she lives in Wheeling, or she doesn't live obviously we
live here, but she grew up in Wheeling and we
go up to visit relatives from time to time. When
we stopped in Columbus and that there's that delia. It's
(19:01):
kind of a famous deli out there. I wish I
could think of it. That's right off campus and for
years and years that's where people people would go and
and you go in there, it's all buck Eye everything.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Oh is that right?
Speaker 3 (19:14):
Well?
Speaker 2 (19:15):
There the campus when you go north on that street.
Speaker 5 (19:19):
Like it's like main streets.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
The campus is everywhere on the left, nowhere on the
right and on the right where that was different. And
James Thurber was from the air.
Speaker 5 (19:30):
Close to Germantown.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
Yeah you got me.
Speaker 5 (19:33):
Yeah, yeah, but it's it's close to campus.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
You can see all the stuff we should have. Bob
Copland here today is yeah, big state. You know what.
Speaker 5 (19:44):
That cheerleader I was afraid to call him after Indiana
up said him. Yeah, he probably was profane about that.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
I thought he'd be. He said, well, we're going to
meet him the next time, you know.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
But yeah, into cheerleer and that fun.
Speaker 5 (20:01):
Isn't that something?
Speaker 2 (20:02):
Yeah? Well, he was gonna go His father was an editor,
I think for the Cincinnati enquire Or of the papers,
and he went to Ohio State, was going to go
into journalism or something, you know like that. And he
said he looked out the window and there was the
bed school and they were leading horses in there. Yeah,
he said, he got up, walked out of that building.
Speaker 5 (20:23):
And walked out. We're into that building.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Is that right?
Speaker 5 (20:26):
He did that, That's what he said.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Wow, but isn't that something? Yeah? He was, of course
a couple of years ahead of me. I forget what
years he was there, but not too far.
Speaker 5 (20:38):
Ahead of me.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (20:40):
They didn't have fun. So you but you grew up
in North Did you grow up in Northern Kentucky God's Country? Yes? Yeah,
I love my people came from northern Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Too, ye, Campbell, Kenton, Yes.
Speaker 5 (20:51):
And my grandmother lived in Covington. My grandfather lived in Cincinnati.
He was an orphan and kind of taken up by
an optical company. Optometry company, and he was raised by
two spinster ants and they would give him he was
a runner. This is when he was like eleven, twelve,
thirteen four, and they'd give him a nickel to go
(21:12):
across the Rubling Bridge there for the street car that
used to run. Yeah, so this was like in nineteen
oh five or something. I love it. But he would
always take the nickel and pocket it and run across
the bridge. I love it. Yeah, and then ghost and
then eventually as he got a little little over, go
see who eventually became my grandmother. Oh that's great.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
Yeah, well, the Achins were from Bellevue. My mother's family
were German and Norwegian and they lived in Newport.
Speaker 5 (21:48):
Oh yeah, and they were there the first Achin got to.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
That Campbell County in eighteen o eight.
Speaker 5 (21:59):
Really, yeah, isn't that interesting?
Speaker 2 (22:01):
And it's a lot of old, old old stuff.
Speaker 5 (22:03):
It's really very ethnic, you know, lots of Germans and
Germans or Irish shd in. The Irish came and the
German churches were here and the Irish churches were there.
And that our schools were separate, that's right, and that's
how that went.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
I was born on an Ironworks Pike, that's right there.
You go, then know where Kenny Lane entered into Ironworks Park.
Ironworks Pike right across the road from where Kennayleen enters,
and they're surrounded by their Spenfreet farm. Now, but this
is a little section in there about twenty acres. That's
(22:39):
where I was born.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
Were you born at home or so?
Speaker 3 (22:42):
No? No, I was born in the hospital. I was
just where my parents were living when I was born there.
Speaker 5 (22:47):
Oh, I think about you every time I drive that.
There's a bridge out on Mount orb right now, a
one lane bridge where it is, And so I have
to go, you know, used to go out Mount or
by you the church that you guys are married at
in terms of you.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
Now you have to go.
Speaker 5 (23:05):
All the way around Newtown, okay. And and of course
when we were doing the show from the track, that
was my favorite. I'd love to drive drive down Ironworks.
Ironworks is kind of a fascinating history, as you know,
in history. We did we did an exhibition. Bill Cook,
(23:25):
you know, put it together. But I but I was
for it. I think I thought of it actually that
Bill Cook was the museum director at the horse Park
for all those years. And it's and still my buddy
to do a history of Ironworks Pike. And it's in
the big Barn right now. If you go and it's
like in a stall in.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
The big Barn.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
It really is a big bike barn.
Speaker 5 (23:47):
Yeah, okay at the at the horse park and uh,
I mean just go you know Ellmendorfs and Thrift. You know,
here was where Man of War was here, you know,
Dick Sam Castleton here to the church. And that church was,
as you know, a pretty significant skirmish in the Civil
War right there.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
Yeah, right there.
Speaker 5 (24:08):
The Confederates hid behind that church.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
That's why I was baptized. It survived that.
Speaker 5 (24:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
Well it's a you know, almost almost got ruined off though.
When I was about I'm about nine years old, they
had an Easter egg hunt there and my buddy and I,
Jimmy Hutchinson, we figured out right away and they had
two prizes, a wind prize and.
Speaker 5 (24:37):
Loser.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
The loser so I gave all my exam and he
won a nice baby basketful of chocolates and everything, and
I got a yo yo. So we were famous for
fixing the Easter egg hunt and Mountain Hork thirty.
Speaker 5 (24:54):
I think that's frown part I fixed Easter egg hunt. Well,
I'm going to be I'm going to be cynical at Easter.
I'm not going to go to that Easter egg hunt
where they're fixed. But that is it's loaded with wonderful history? Yeah, yeah,
all the way there. It was the Civil War general
that in Scott County who lived in that big house
(25:15):
off the horse Park. I'm just who's that it's the
house is still there, the mansion. It's right off the
horse park on you can see it from seventy five. Oh,
I can't think it, you know, I wasn't planning on
talking Civil War history now was it?
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Was it a part of the horse park property at
that time?
Speaker 3 (25:36):
It was not.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
It's just off the property. When when I was the
director there and Walt Robertson was the chair, we bought
we bought two hundred acres for the I mean the
state of Kentucky bought it. But we we worked on it.
And it's where the Secretariat Center is now and where
Central Kentucky Riding for the handicap and it's right yeah,
and it stops and then right across the fence is
(26:01):
this mansion. And we did not get it on purpose.
I wanted it originally because I thought, well, you know,
it's a historic homes. But then I was reminded by
state officials about what what all is involved when you
own a historic yeah home and so we didn't get that.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
Is that the one you used to be able to
see from the road, and it was kind of not
taking care.
Speaker 5 (26:23):
Of it has not been taking care of very well.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
But I know this.
Speaker 5 (26:27):
The roof and the basement and the cellar were all.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
In good shape.
Speaker 5 (26:30):
So it's the skeleton is good. I got to can't judge.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
Yeah, I've got to catch up seeing that from us
a little shit.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
Yeah, then I cut in and patient wills here go ahead,
dear heart. All right, the first floes by grade one
steaks Winter Prince of Monaco a little rather than twenty
twenty six, and there'll be a lot of it. When
he covered one hundred and seventy six marriage in twenty
twenty five, the most marriage in the history of Thame,
cleban farm horseman came to see him and loved him,
(26:58):
and the book was overflowing. Forty four of them had
earned black type. Prince of Monaco sold for nine hundred
and fifty thousand dollars a year. Told you he was
a grand individual, and it didn't take him long to
pay the bill. He won his first start as a
two yul easily by eight lengths. His next two starts
were at del Mar and he won them both the
Grade three Best Bout six six purlongs and nine flap
(27:21):
and the Grade one delm Off for two seven phurlongs
one twenty two and three. He had a nightmare trip
in his fourth start, the Breeders Cup Junal, that proved
to be his last start until June at Saratoga. Wearing
his last two starts, he was second by half length
in the Grade one Woodie stevens On second by neck
and the Grade one H. L and Jerkins Memorial. Prince
(27:42):
of Monaco is by champion sprinter Spike's Town Approving cy
Sars tire of one hundred and forty five Stax winners.
Right near dam of Prince of Monico is by my
Daily Doo tired of one hundred and eighty two stakes
winners female families loaded with black type of course. Welcome
to that Claveron Farm to instruct the science. All we
(28:02):
need to do is just called Jacob west a five
nine nine eight seven two three three old and take
it a good a website which is clabronfarm dot com.
Also the Clay Warning Agency and Indian Creek. That's right
here in Bourbon County where we live and both of
(28:22):
great organizations. Actually the one and the same played the
clay Warned Agency was founded and year I was born
in nineteen thirty one. If you're in the hire math,
you and figure out how old I am. But they've
been providing the finest and insurance equine insurance for over
(28:46):
ninety four years. Now I know exactly how old. I'll
REPRENDUK businesses which tells you a little bit about how
old I am, and anyway, it tells you exactly how
old I am. Done that just about. But they were
successful even though it was right doing the middle of
the depression when they started this, because they gave great
(29:08):
service and thorough knowledge of the horsemenness qualities here still
carried on two days as a matter of fact. So
whatever your insurance needs, if it pertains to the third Bred,
the pros over to Clayward Indensty and they are a
couple of really nice people, Shack Perishing and Bruce Isaac.
(29:28):
Just give them a call at eight five nine nine,
eight seven, eighteen sixty one or in the stop by
the Office of the Living or two Main Street in
Paris and also Indian Creek. Of course, it's a beautiful
farm because they're one in the same Indian Creek and
clay Ward Agency. If they do a great job. They
(29:52):
have raised board and sold many of the world's finest
therbers right there at the Indian Creek. And if you
interested in a place to buejo horses or have people
sell for you, definitely get in touch with the Beshack
Parish again and just go to the website which is
(30:13):
Indian Creek KLi dot com. Two great outfits over in parish,
right neighbors, that's the Clayworld Agency and Indian Creek.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and Ursa Ellis.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
All right, did you ever think of the name of
the guy that owned that house?
Speaker 3 (30:37):
No? I didn't.
Speaker 5 (30:38):
I should have been looking that up, but I was
enthralled with Prince of Monico in learning all about.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
The It wasn't Alexander king.
Speaker 5 (30:47):
Richards, was it now? King Richards? Now King Richards is different,
but that's the same idea.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
What is this there, Georgetown?
Speaker 2 (30:56):
Well, the Keenlynd Library lectures.
Speaker 5 (31:00):
Oh has got h the Arabian.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
Adventures of Alexander King Richards. He went over to Syria.
I guess he went to Syria in eighteen fifty one.
Now what an adventure that is. I mean, you've got
to have some kind of guts to go.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
Well, I got to go do that today.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
But yeah, you know that guy went over there and
got Arabian stock for transport to his Bluegrass Park farm
now Georgetown.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
Okay, the interest that that would be a nifty I'll
tell you what I think. I think that that particular
farm is where the water works and downtown, like close
to downtown Georgetown. Oh yeah, because that I'm saying that
because Henry Clay also had Arabian horses.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
Oh he did. I didn't know that, and.
Speaker 5 (31:54):
They were coveted, covet I'm just some folks like that
were all admired him horses. When the war broke out,
they got Clay's horses. By that time, Henry Clay was dead,
but John Clay, his son, was running Ashland, and they
took them all. They took them all over to that
(32:15):
farm in Georgetown with the other Arabian horses something blue
Grass Park and interesting. And the war was just getting going.
But the guys from Ashland, you know at not City Ashland,
but the Ashland farm in Bank County came over and
got those horses back or so you know, we're gonna
(32:36):
fight war and all that, but you're not taking our horses.
So that yeah, that's part of the Clay family. So
I'm thinking Arabian horses taken to Georgetown. That's got to
be who that that is. Yeah, isn't that interesting? I
love that stuff. Yeah, it's interesting, isn't it. Yeah? I
love it, just like crazy. That's super duper.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
But I can remember seeing that. Well, since it's so
close to the horse farm, that you're so close, surely
that'll protect it.
Speaker 5 (33:07):
Oh yeah, I think so.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
You never know, people come in and buy stuff and recket.
Speaker 5 (33:12):
Yeah, I hope. So that's nice. Yeah, absolutely, But but
it all goes back to what a rich history iron
Works Pike and you know that was the first man
made road in this area and we don't really think
of it. It's totally straight, but it really is a
straight line. If you before iron Works got kind of
(33:36):
messed up with the you know, the horse park changed it.
Then as it went into Scott County it got changed
to Old Ironworks. But if the old old the old
old iron Works was a straight shot from an iron
forging place to the river and the that to the
(33:56):
river to the Kentucky River from over here to where
we are, to the river, the river, and Franklin, you
got to the river. Oh, you got to the river,
and then you and then you shift your stuff. All
the cannon balls and all the musket bullets in the
in the Battle of New Orleans in eighteen fourteen General
(34:19):
Jackson were all forged here and shipped down. And oh
that's nephew, I love that. And the first horse I
ever saw was all nine works pick too. That was
my grandfather's horse.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
He rode. My grandfather was ninety two and he died
and he was rode horseback right up a month, yeah
till he died. Yeah, in ninety two. And he had
this horse named Major, and we nicknamed.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
One of the two we took out till the friend.
Speaker 3 (34:53):
Oh yeah, right, Eluciden. We called it Major because I
couldn't never remember who's in it. Yeah, so we called
him Major. Funny story. He was a Civil War veteran.
I come from a long line of losers and gave
a great rebel yell. Anyway, anyway, they tell the story
(35:14):
that my mother told on him that he was They
asked him to lead to the labor Day parade in
downtown Lexington, and my mother was standing there watching it,
and there was a couple of ladies behind him and said,
look at that Colonel duck Red leading the Labor Day
(35:35):
parade and never worked a day in his life.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
That great, that's fun.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
But he had Major And that's where the first horse
River saw. In addition to being born there, it was
on iron Workspike. I was first saw my first horse
there because when he died, we took lad Major and
turned him out there, I said, we my parents did.
Speaker 5 (36:00):
So your father was the manager at Dixiana. Yeah, and
so you lived there, and so that's you were born
there and raised on Dixiana. Yeah, well, yeah, I was born. No,
that was not Dixiana, it was it belonged to somebody
else at that time. Was well, that's where I was born.
(36:20):
Dad was hired in nineteen twenty nine to manage Dixianna
from Charles T. Fisher, Okay, great gentleman. And then we
he was we were living there then.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
And then when the dad made manager, who was promoted
to manager in about nineteen thirty five or something like that,
we moved to Dixiana. Okay, but you were still on Ironworks.
You just moved down the road of course. Yeah, she
got the house up there, Yes, that was Yeah, it
burned down, but just to elsewhere. I was raised, right
(36:59):
there on Ditionanna did that? Was that the house you
lived in? Ye?
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Yeah, it was from Mount Brilliant.
Speaker 3 (37:08):
Yeah, it was built, but you can't you can't.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
Drive by without looking at it.
Speaker 5 (37:11):
They redid it.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
Yeah, but it burned down what five or six years ago? Yeah,
maybe a little bit longer than Okay, may put up
a new house.
Speaker 5 (37:22):
But when you would go go home, you would go
down Iron Works and turn into Dixiana. Is that's how
you would go home. That how you got out Russell
Cave or out Russell Cave.
Speaker 3 (37:32):
You go out Russell Cave. You know where Mount Brilliant
is now?
Speaker 5 (37:36):
Yeah, okay cave right across from Mountain Cave.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
The cave is right there on Russell Cave Road, right
just on the other side of the creek.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
Because you're going Did you know some kid that got
killed in them?
Speaker 3 (37:49):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (37:50):
Yeah, fast made of mind. I killed in Russell Cave.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
Yeah. I wasn't win him by the time as the
damn window, I wouldn't. But they were and uh, a
big slab of rock hit him and Glover Hughes who
it was We were in the fourth grade, I believe
it was. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
Now what's his brother's name that was at the training
center for so long?
Speaker 3 (38:17):
Oh? God, Hugh he had We had two brothers that
were trainers, but we were one of my knew real will.
Speaker 5 (38:24):
Yeah, but anyway, he never knew what hit him and
broke the egg.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
And see you also could go on his bike out
the front gate, turn left, turn right.
Speaker 5 (38:34):
And see man of war. Yeah, I'm thinking right, you
were right there with Man of war in the middle
of all that.
Speaker 3 (38:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
And that was his father put the first halter on him.
Worked for Major Belmont, see him Major who August Belmont?
Speaker 3 (38:51):
I don't know what is Gussie? We used to call him,
not not to his face that I don't know what
his uh, mister Belmont's name. You know he was with
the last time we were together, we were talking about
my nephew Jamie's book, and he talked about how mister
Belmont promoted the idea that we had to breed these
(39:13):
horses for national security for World War One and helped
helped keep the government at bay about shutting down racetracks. Yeah,
we got to breed these horses for that.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (39:26):
So mister Belmont played a significant role in New York
racing and racing as a whole, and then and then
employed your father then right for the mister Belmont did did.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Yeah, dad was working for August.
Speaker 5 (39:44):
Belmont a nursery study.
Speaker 3 (39:48):
George shown Rose. That's that's where mister Belmont's farm was,
right and my grandfather h there was a little chapel
right there on Belmont Temple they call it. And he
would come in and and preach.
Speaker 5 (40:08):
Your grandfather, yeah, grand grandfather wrote major.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
Yeah. Yeah, they came in and preached, and that's where
he met my dad met my mother.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
You have fun.
Speaker 5 (40:21):
Wow, I know that is that picture of my dad
up there holding man of Oar. Uh it's uh, it's
up there somewhere. It is there.
Speaker 3 (40:31):
That was taken when man Oar was in the fall.
It was not a foal. He did put the first
halter on him when he was full, because he went
to work at that morning after it had full and
put the first halter on him.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
Can you imagine it's part of something like wingling.
Speaker 3 (40:53):
Yeah, well I don't think it was wing yed.
Speaker 5 (40:56):
Oh, I.
Speaker 3 (40:59):
Should have being from the look it looked like a
pretty serious fault.
Speaker 5 (41:03):
Yeah, but he did, Dad.
Speaker 3 (41:05):
He went to went overseas World War One. Yeah, and uh,
shortly after that picture was taken, he was.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
In the cavalry in World War one.
Speaker 5 (41:17):
War off something.
Speaker 8 (41:19):
You know.
Speaker 5 (41:19):
It's just not that long ago.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
Really.
Speaker 5 (41:21):
It was a big picture, you know, and the big
picture it is.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
Not a long ago. He told me that he went
over when he went overseas, they hauled him over there,
and he says, I was so see sick that I was,
you know, I was afraid I was going to die.
And he said, second half the trip, I was still
so Sea sick. I was afraid.
Speaker 5 (41:41):
I Wasn't that funny. And it's not that long ago. Okay,
I got to catch up here. We got a lot
of I got to take got work to do here.
Speaker 3 (41:54):
Jack came, let's see what what have you got? Yeah? Okay. Uh.
If you're looking for a stallion with a really good
chance of topping the twenty twenty six freshman Silace, take
a good look at Corniche. At Ashwood stud Corniche was
undefeated at two won two Grade one stakes, the Breeders Cup,
(42:15):
Juvenal and the American Pharaoh earned a me in two
hundred and sixty three thousand. It was a terrific too,
you old well. What makes him a good bet to
top the Freshman Salius is the reception his earlings received
at the sales. Seventy two of them sold for an
average of more than one hundred and seventy thousand dollars,
a dozen four with three hundred thousand dollars with a
(42:37):
hives seven hundred and twenty five thousand. They were popular
at the sales because they looked and move like runners.
Now let me point out that Corniche's fee for twenty
twenty six is a steal fifteen thousands four. Corniche won
the Eclipse of Waders. A champion toio old he could
fly shold me the young stallion with a better chance
of topping the Freshman Salius. And here is another future
(43:00):
are at Ashword stud domestic product. He's a Grade one
States winner, a practical Joe and the minstress most successful
son had Stud. He's a stablemate of corneesh at Ashword
stood and practical Joe Corry ranked six on the North
American Salas, above the likes of Curling and Niquist. Niquist
the son of the late great Uncle Moe, who, like Cornish,
(43:22):
was the champion two year over his year. They have
earned a great reputation for developing leading size at Ashword
stud which is one more reason to consider Cornesian domestic
product who have great potential to be successful sires. Now
is the time to talk to the folks at Ashword Stood.
They're making deals as I speak. Just called the farm
(43:42):
at eighty five nine eight seven three seventy ninety nine
and the website is coolmore dot com.
Speaker 2 (43:50):
All right, Quillan Leather in Tac quality service and mother

an address book, right, and they sell the covers. I
(44:36):
have to get over there and see find out that
they tell you what size you know?
Speaker 3 (44:41):
And then falling apart, absolutely falling apart like me.
Speaker 2 (44:47):
They've got that kind of stuff and they I wonder
we have sleigh bells from there too.
Speaker 5 (44:52):
We got those a couple of years ago.
Speaker 2 (44:55):
Oh, here's a three ring binder. You can get it in,
you know, whatever kind of insert that you want.
Speaker 5 (45:06):
Ursa wants.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
Addresses and phone numbers and stuff like that. Since people
have cell phones. You can't find anybody's phone number.
Speaker 5 (45:16):
I ain't no such thing, no, but it's nice to
have it. It's nice to have old fashioned addresses. Yeah,
it really is having your phone, but it's but it's
also nice to have it in something that's classy. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
So they have all this stuff, you know, red, green,
blue or pink. And I got to get over there
this coming week. I'll drag myself over just for fun.
Speaker 5 (45:39):

a Philly named Farstar.
Speaker 5 (46:32):
Yeah, Farstar, tell me about Farstar.
Speaker 3 (46:34):
Farstar was so fold the same year I was nineteen
thirty one. She and Matda Harre were were stable mats.
They had three stakes winning phillies in that crop. My
dad always said it was definitely a Philly year.
Speaker 5 (46:49):
And that's a little insulting to you in the well.
Speaker 3 (46:54):
They had more class than I did. Anyway. That's a
picture of far Star winning the Arlington Fortuity and she's
beating that day. She beat Matda Hair because Mada Hair
had got into an argument with with the stars over
there and refused to extend herself. She won that and
(47:19):
mister Fisher and I think Clyde van Dusen was a
trainer at that time, they didn't know they'd won and
therefore didn't get in the picture because they got up
watching Matt and far Star wanted that's funny. That is
that is funny, Cid van Duson. They named the horse
(47:42):
Suffer the trainer wasn't her horse name? He won nineteen
twenty nine Kentucky Derby heard him blue Larkspur was a
matter of matter of fact, Yeah, and he was a
guilding He was by man of war. Clyde van des
was a was five man of warren with a gelvit Yeah,
(48:02):
and uh Clyde vandus And trained him and uh shortly
after he trained from Dixianna for several years and then
he went to California and he took Clyde van dus
and took Clyde van Dusin the horse with him and
used him as a little lead pony. Is that right?
Speaker 5 (48:19):
Yeah, well that's a great start. I didn't know that.
I remember that the name Clyde van Dusen was a
Derby winner. I didn't remember what her, but I didn't
know that the trainer. Did you know mister Vandusin.
Speaker 3 (48:31):
I never met him, that was if I did, I
don't remember. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (48:37):
So he's been a contemporary of your father's. Yes, yeah, yeah,
Well you should do uh tours of this house with
these photographs. I don't know if that's something you're interested
in doing. Yeah, doing tours, bringing tours through through your
house and these these photographs, God, that that would mean
(48:57):
keeping the house clean, the house that what I know
is the similating radio when you're pointing out pictures here,
But what is that? I've been for weeks and weeks
looking at that black and white photographs of that house.
Is that the same house as that's where my my.
Speaker 3 (49:15):
Grandfather was living when he when he passed.
Speaker 5 (49:18):
Away, Colonel Dick, Yeah, eels.
Speaker 2 (49:22):
And what's the name of that house? And Transylvania owns
it now?
Speaker 5 (49:26):
Is it in downtown Lexington? No, it's on the outskirts
election offer, Georgetown Pike. Is it still there? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (49:34):
Yeah, yeah, Transylvania bought it. There was a house of
family owned, Yeah, okay, it's the family owned.
Speaker 3 (49:41):
How that's where my grandfather lived, Okay.
Speaker 2 (49:46):
They moved in with ma'am all yeah.
Speaker 5 (49:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (49:50):
The picture down here the horse, that's a horse named
a Leg who got beat in a photo finish and
the breeders Victoria And that was the time before they
had and somebody took a picture of the photo finished
and of course you know how misleading they could be. Uh,
(50:14):
brought it out the shoulder to my dad and in
that picture it looked like the girl had won and
he went to the graves. They can need one.
Speaker 5 (50:22):
But you know you can change that angle just a
little bit exactly. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (50:29):
I put it up mostly because of the colors. Those
are the Dixiana color soft riding and buscaps and Colferino
buff slash and the scarlet cap with the Dixiana color.
Speaker 5 (50:40):
And we keep up.
Speaker 2 (50:41):
We've got friends in the Fisher family to this day.
Speaker 5 (50:45):
Is that right?
Speaker 2 (50:46):
Sarah Fisher, Mary Fisher's niece, Mary Virginia Miss Mary is
she is she Miss Mary's niece. Anybody sent us?
Speaker 3 (50:57):
She sent us Miss Mary Fisher, Mary Mary Virginia Fisher.
Lovely they never married. Yeah, yeah, but this is uh
Sarah Fisher, her kniece. I think that it is named
after her grandmother.
Speaker 2 (51:16):

Speaker 5 (51:17):
Him, they just see that's silly fun. You got to
show him for you.
Speaker 2 (51:22):
We leave that that snowman. She sent us a snowman.
Speaker 5 (51:25):
It's hilarious. Miss Fisher. Yeah, Sarah Fisher, still good and
bring it in.
Speaker 2 (51:32):
Sarah Fisher comes down and then Ursul took her out
to Dixie and and.
Speaker 5 (51:38):
They were so nice and friendly. And the Fisher, now
Fisher were auto what the automobile business. Yeah, the body
by Fisher, your body by the chevallet Pinako's male Buicks
and Cadillacs.
Speaker 3 (51:53):
Yeah. And they used to send chevallets down here to
my dad to drive and mister Fisher would drive it too.
Speaker 5 (52:03):
You know the Fishers from Cincinnati that were these Fishers.
Look at that. That's a nice snowman. Oh you never
seen anything. Thanks.
Speaker 2 (52:16):
Yeah, there are two families Fishers in Cincinnati, one or
Farmers and one. I'll stop it now we're on the radio.
Speaker 5 (52:27):
That's a.
Speaker 2 (52:29):
That's a that's a snow man.
Speaker 5 (52:32):
Snowman is talking and blowing up the show. Good seeing. Yeah,
never seen anybody do that all radio. We gotta pay now,
we got to pay the off the thieves. They have
a song on the show, you know the ash Captain
(52:53):
Ash Cats.
Speaker 3 (52:56):
He's got.
Speaker 9 (52:58):
Yeah, lasts longer than I thought.
Speaker 2 (53:12):
Now he's going down.
Speaker 5 (53:20):
Yeah. So she said, that's the funniest thing.
Speaker 2 (53:24):
In contact with her. She's so sweet and uh, you
know miss Mary Fisher, Charles T's daughter was a huge
saddle bread.
Speaker 5 (53:36):
Oh that's right.
Speaker 8 (53:37):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (53:38):
And I when.
Speaker 2 (53:40):
When Sarah was here, I was going to blue and
she asked me. They have a big wall at the
state's air grounds and Marry Fisher's name.
Speaker 3 (53:50):
We're really late here.
Speaker 5 (53:51):
I've gotta we gotta do and thrift. Yeah, no, that's
been thrift here.
Speaker 3 (54:01):
This is three years. That's the hill Parker. We got
to get out of here. In stakes last weekend, Toby
Keith at Remington was won by Not a Lady by
In the Mischief. She was the twenty seventh States winner
of the Year for In the Mischief and she sold
at Keenland as a yearling for seven hundred and seventy
five thousand, Pretty good and pretty reasonable price for an
(54:22):
inner mischief. Twenty twenty five is closing down and In
the Mischief is locked up the number one spot on
the North American Silace for the seventh year in a row,
and at turf Way, the two hundred and fifty thousand
dollars my Charm Mistakes went to Caitlin and her Greatness
of phillyby Omahaw Beach. The nation's leading third crops are
like in the mission, he stands at spins Refarm, so
(54:45):
does yop On. The leading first cops are and Facoma
the leading second crops are. That pretty much wraps it up.
What about future leading sire? What about cyber Knife. His
first row will be two year olds in twenty twenty six.
He stands at Spensery Farm. Me won Grade one stage.
He earned to me in one hundred and thirty seven thousand,
and he's my gun runner, oh greatest honor. He's a
(55:08):
multiple graded stakes winner. He's by tapping Jackie's Warrior won
Grade one Champagne and Grade one hopefully too. Was a
champion mayle sprinter at three. He earned to me and
ate a nine hundred and fifty nine thousand dollars. He
should be rated right at the top to be the
leading freshman sire in twenty twenty six. Muldonagle one of
(55:28):
Grade two rams in the two one Grade one station three.
He's by the late great Uncle O. The champion two
year old of is yere Mldonucle earned a million five
hundred thousand. They have a great selectionist stays over Spencery Farm.
That's the breeders farm leading sire's leading potential sire just
called deaz Bron Marcaret Daniel. He's five nine to nine
(55:48):
four years old thirty and they'll be if I find
the rights tie and at the right price for your
mar and for you're mayor and check the website at
Spencer farm dot com.
Speaker 2 (56:00):
Say hi to Hill Parker. Thanks for the nice Christmas card.
Make sure of his two gorgeous daughters.
Speaker 3 (56:08):
Yeah, he'll. We want to apologize Jackie broke a rib
and we didn't even send out Christmas cards.
Speaker 2 (56:18):
Well, I apologized everybody much Christmas. I was a week
and a half or something before Christmas and took care
of it anyway. Hill really a great guy.
Speaker 5 (56:30):
Hill Parker.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
He is a twofer. He's a horse farm and land specialist,
full time realtor, partner broker, license source trainer in eleven states.
Speaker 5 (56:43):
I'm telling you all.
Speaker 2 (56:44):
This because you need the background because he is a
big time realtor. He knows all that's owning rigs and
all that stuff about what you do and you can't do.
If you buy some property and you think you're going
to go and do something, better, know what's going on
before where you go. And the other part of that
is he's a horseman. He's got sixteen acres out behind
(57:06):
the training center that he uses to train whiles out there.
Speaker 5 (57:12):
He can flat ride too.
Speaker 2 (57:14):
He is the working zone for crying out grue horsemen,
a true horsemen and so if you're looking for a
property for a farm or something, you have to know
where the stuff goes because there's different things you do
with property. Are you gonna are you gonna take borders?
Are you gonna breed? Are you gonna train? Are you
(57:35):
gonna what you're gonna retire horses? All those kind of
questions determine this kind of.
Speaker 5 (57:41):
Space and facilities you need. One are your long.
Speaker 2 (57:45):
Term for example?
Speaker 5 (57:46):
Check the arns?
Speaker 2 (57:48):
You got enough stalls? Are there dirty? Is there enough
faith in the hayloft? And on and on. It's just
extraordinary the stuff you have to think about before you
spend your bucks on on improvement and all that kind
of stuff. And he'll knows the answers. He's really good
and a nice guy. Go he's got more and he's
(58:10):
another one like Michael.
Speaker 5 (58:12):
He's got loads of energy.
Speaker 3 (58:14):
Huh. Best way to get in touch with Hill is
go to his website missus Leg's horse Farms dot com. Oh,
here's the sale number eight five nine, six year, eight
eighty thirty nine, and he'll take care of you. They're
great people. That's Hill and Riggan Parker.
Speaker 5 (58:33):
Check it out. He's got a new place that's looks.
Speaker 3 (58:36):
Oh, well, that's good. That's good, all right, Gavin. If
you see, if you can get in hold touch with
James Scully, I got I've got to I've got to
run to the to the farm and I'm gonna listen
to James and tell us who the winners are today. Okay,
I hope him come on. He was sick last week
with me. Week four last, yeah, week four last, I think.
Speaker 5 (58:58):
And that reminds me of our friend Sean Washington was
going to come on today. I was going to bring
He's coming out with me and he's sick to that.
Speaker 2 (59:06):
What's going around?
Speaker 5 (59:07):
Yeah it is. It's what they say.
Speaker 2 (59:09):
Before I tripped and fell, I had what do you call.
Speaker 5 (59:14):
It bronchitis around?
Speaker 2 (59:16):
Yeah, all that kind of head stuff, and they said
everybody's got it.
Speaker 5 (59:19):
Yeah, they look at you like it. Take it easy,
it's no big deal. Well Spring is coming all right,
all right, happy right, thanks for coming by.
Speaker 3 (59:31):
Well. December twenty at Law, the one hundred thound dollars
Carousel Steaks was won by Complexity Jane Complexity Jane the
three Old Philip the first Cut by Complexity. Complexity. Jane
has won five of her seven stars three states, all
of them at Law She was read by Burtensey Jones,
the founder of ed Re stud and raised right there on.
(59:52):
Other stakes winners by complexity include black Fortne one of
the Group two Richmond States in England, Mo winner of
three stakes in New York, including the Grade three Stanford
at Saratoga, also won the Grade three OI Derby. As
a matter of fact, placed in three more New York states,
including the Grade one Champagne earned overseas seven hundred ninety thousand.
(01:00:14):
Then there's an Intricate Spirit, one of the Grade three
for Turity stakes in New York, Innovative, a Grade three
stakes winner at Santa Nta, plus the winners of stakes
at Turfway, Oaklahm fair Grounds, belmonted Aquaduct, Woodbind Major Tracks.
Others are placed in stakes at Churchill Downs. Two more
of them placed at Aquador and then one in Saratoga.
(01:00:37):
In Group staks in Japan, they placed there, and one
of the one in the place in the Group three
saw the Derby. To date rock so solid, fourteen percent
of complexity runners have earned black type through December twenty
third complexity of Saured nine twenty twenty five stakes winners
fourteen stake saucers to rank among the nation's leading seconds.
(01:01:00):
I'm sorry. Complexity won of his career's debut at Saratoga.
Then in his second start, one of the Grade one
Sampagne Stakes at Belmont mile and one thirty four and three,
went on to win the Grade two Kelso at Belmont
one thirty three and four. For more on the Complexity,
just called Shannon or Kyle at airdris stood a five
(01:01:22):
nine eight seven three seventy two seventy to see the
website at erdrestood dot com and happy New Year from
Airdrisch stood. All right. I don't know, Gavin, if you
had any luck trying to get in the hold of James. Oh,
good morning, James, Hey, good morning, are soul pleasure to
(01:01:45):
be on with you.
Speaker 8 (01:01:47):
Hellow Jackie too, Hey, James, she's on the man.
Speaker 3 (01:01:53):
She took her. She had too much Christmas.
Speaker 2 (01:01:57):
Chair, Yeah, chicked over the Christmas filled over the Christmas
aunaments were sitting there and practice Aria broke it, broke it. Yeah, yeah,
last week. We talked about this last week. But I
(01:02:19):
hope you all had a merry Christmas and you know everything.
Certainly it didn't fit that Christmas outside being so warm.
Speaker 3 (01:02:29):
Now a little bit warm, but it's hanging there. It's
gonna change what you got going for night. A whole
lot of stakes today.
Speaker 8 (01:02:40):
No, there's not the biggest of news this weekend will
be the opening day card at Santa Anita, which was
originally scheduled for yesterday, but they moved it to Sunday
because of the weather. So tomorrow's card at sant Anita
is a Steaks packed. You've got six grade at stakes,
(01:03:01):
including the final three grade ones of the year. Two
of them, the Lobrea Malibu, are for three year olds
at seven furlongs. The other one is a Great American
Oaks is a for three year old phillies on turf,
so those races should be really exciting. They got full
fields at Santa a Nina, so it's gonna be a
(01:03:21):
good betting card tomorrow. But today's feature and the last
program at twenty twenty five at Turfway Park is the
last Tarras Stakes and it's race eight at Turfway this
evening and it got a pretty good fielder, so you've
got final gambits in there. For Brad Cox, he won
(01:03:42):
the Jeff Ruby Steaks. He ran fourth in the Kentucky Derby,
but he has not one final gambit. I think he
lost about eight in a row and I'm gonna six
in a row. I'm gonna take a shot against him
with number nine Energize. That's my pick of the day.
It's gonna come in the last Ross Steaks. It's number
(01:04:03):
nine in race eight.
Speaker 3 (01:04:04):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (01:04:05):
This is a This is an up and coming horse
for Michael Stidham. He's a three year old gelding Vibe
Medaglia diiro, who has won two of his last three starts,
and this will be his first race on synthetics. But
he's Daglia diuro and even Birdmer sier Gros Sapper have
really good numbers on the synthetics and Energize shows a
(01:04:28):
couple of bullet works at Turfoay in preparation. So I
like number nine Energize and race eight at Turfoy part
tonight the last Ross Steaks.
Speaker 3 (01:04:40):
Well, this probably kind of an easy pick there with
you mc good. Dolphins haven't yeah, I know, yeah, they're
pullas I think they've won.
Speaker 5 (01:04:52):
They have.
Speaker 8 (01:04:52):
They have been the leading owner the last two years
and maybe leading and leading breeder either. The last two
years are one of the last two and they look,
you know they're gonna have another. You know that they
got a big chance to win those awards again. Also
got you know, we got some stakes races going on
this weekend at or some racing going on at Oakland
(01:05:16):
and gold Stream Park. Gold String Park has the mister Prospector.
It's a Grade three steak today on the main track,
and I haven't handicapped that too closely, but.
Speaker 3 (01:05:31):
Let me pull that.
Speaker 8 (01:05:33):
Oh what I was gonna say about that race, That
race lost some luster because there even the even money
morning line favorite White to Barrio has reportedly is gonna
scratch from that race. So you know, that was the
horse that was scratched in the post rade for the
Breeder's Cup Dirt mile, and it was always going to
(01:05:53):
be a gauge as to when he came back and ran,
because you know, everybody said, all the people around the horse,
only the t I vet said that he was perfectly fine.
And then so they entered him back today Ursul and
now they're scratching him out of that race apparently. So
the horse to beat in there is nights Bridge number two.
(01:06:14):
That's another good Dolphin runner for Billmont. He's coming off
a nice win at Aqueduct. He's been lately rased. He
was going to be on the Derby Trail, but he
had an issue with his blood and now Bill Mott
appears to have this night nighte Bridge back on track
and healthy and he could be a good horse at
twenty twenty six. So if you're going to be playing
(01:06:37):
the races at this weekend or anytime in the future,
make sure you check out Bloodstock Research Information Services. That's
bristnet dot com. We have handicapping reports for all North
America tracks. We have value added PPS and clocker reports
(01:06:57):
and other information as well. We have some data files
for handicapping software at much more firstnet dot com. It's
the Handicapper's Edge.
Speaker 3 (01:07:10):
Yes, that's a great outfit. I couldn't do a show
with that, that's for sure. That's the first thing I
do in the morning. Has turned on as soon as
I have gave me a couple of coffee, and I
go turn on the TV, I mean the computer and
go to Bloodstock Research. And I'm in the habit of
(01:07:32):
looking at every race all the way across the country
as a matter of fact, and kind of keeps keeps
me up on everything. I've been doing it for years,
James stuck in, stuck in the mud. I guess I
don't know. Well, listen, I hope, I hope you have
(01:07:53):
a great new year coming up, pick a lot of winners.
And I'm sure you're sure you're going to You've been
doing it right alone, so uh, and I hope you
have a happy new year, you and your family, and
maybe maybe even your golf will improve.
Speaker 8 (01:08:14):
Well, don't don't go too don't go too far there, Ursul,
the the I wish you the same. I hope I
really enjoyed uh coming on and making these appearances in
twenty twenty five, and I wish you continued success and
health and all the best to you and Jackie and
(01:08:35):
your family in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 3 (01:08:37):
Ursul, thank him, my friend, Thank you very much for him. Well,
we'll talk to you next week. Hopefully that's good. All right,
all right, the fingers crossed, bye, bye, Okay, Well, first
folds by grade one stays Winter Prince of Monaco going
to arrive in twenty twenty six, and uh, there'll be
(01:08:59):
a gonna be a lot of them. He covered one
hundred and seventy six marriage in twenty twenty five. That's
the most marriage in history of famed Craven Farm. A
horse horseman came to see him, loved him, and his
book was overflowing forty four of them arned black tie.
Prince of Monaco sold for nine hundred and fifty thousand
dollars as a year and told you he was a
(01:09:20):
grand individual, and it didn't take him long pay the bill.
He won his first start as the two easily by
eight lengths. Next two starts with Del Marty won them
both the Grade three Best Pal going six purlongs and
nine flat, the Grade one Del Mapportunity going seven furlongs
and one twenty two and three. Had a nightmare trip
(01:09:40):
in his four start, that was the Breeders' Cup Julil.
That proved to be his last start until June at Saratoga,
where in his last two starts he was second by
half length in the Grade one Winnie Stevens and second
by Nick and the Grade one h Alien Jerkins Memorial.
Prince of Monaco is by Champions printer spits down proven
(01:10:01):
Cyshires and the CYB one hundred and five Stakes one
hundred and forty five stax winner Rainier Damn and Prince
Monico is by my Dalli Duo SYB one hundred and
eighty two Stax winners, and the female family is loaded
with black type. So you're welcome to visit Cleven Farm
to inspect the staands just this contact Jacob West at
(01:10:21):
the eight five nine nine eight seven two three three
old and the website is clavinfarm dot com.
Speaker 2 (01:10:29):
And another wonderful group over in Paris is Hopo Company
Hopo Company. Well ERSA and I have been with Hope
Well thirty something years, I.
Speaker 5 (01:10:45):
Mean a long time.
Speaker 2 (01:10:47):
They when we moved to Bourbont County we asked about where,
you know, I liked the shop local anyway, and they said,
if you want insurance, that's where.
Speaker 5 (01:10:58):
You go, and by golly, they were right.
Speaker 2 (01:11:02):
What's interesting about to me about Hope Well is that
they're insurance agency and they're an independent insurance agency. They
are not tied to a big mega company with a
duck or a goose or a frog or whatever. So
how they do this is they use a carefully selected
(01:11:29):
group of financially sound, reputable companies. This means they can
check with each company see what kind of offer they get,
what's the best at the most competitive price. So and
then they pick that the folks that Hope Well can
give you a no cost, no obligation review in comparison
(01:11:50):
of your insurance. I mean, if you're going to do insurance,
that's the way to do it. I mean, there's nothing
like a competition to help with the price, the coverage.
And of course they only deal with reputable companies that
have been around god knows forever. So the hope Will
Company in Paris established nineteen fifty five, so they've got
(01:12:14):
to be doing something right for crying out. Well, it's
a pull service insurance agency. Give them a call nine
eighty seven two three four seven, or better yet, stop
by the offices at Age twenty Main Street Bears. They
are so nice to stop in.
Speaker 8 (01:12:34):
They're there.
Speaker 5 (01:12:34):
It's just that's how simple it is.
Speaker 2 (01:12:37):
So they're really nice people and they'll do a great
job for you.
Speaker 4 (01:12:47):
Now back to the Thoroughbred Training Center and urso.
Speaker 3 (01:12:50):
Ellis okay, Well, I think we've better take care of
a good flane. Over to Theirdate Owner's a Breader's Association.
Also the Chauncey marsh at KTA for helping us out.
And these are the Kentucky bread steaks winners from last week.

There's worse places, that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (01:13:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:13:37):
Weather's great.
Speaker 3 (01:13:38):
That was down there and went bowler and and that
bunch were around table and all of them.
Speaker 5 (01:13:46):

beaaten bowl ruler.

Speaker 3 (01:14:02):
Yeah, he was came out, he was came at his
big derby horse.
Speaker 2 (01:14:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:14:06):
They ended up winning the derby with Iron Lee because uh,
the other horse he turned into a wabber and they
had to put him.
Speaker 5 (01:14:18):
It's not awful one shame. Yeah, I remember all that. Anyway,
it was, it was.
Speaker 3 (01:14:23):

all time.
Speaker 5 (01:14:27):
Yeah.

No?
Speaker 3 (01:20:38):
Yeah, that's yeah, they're haven't like they were talking to.
Speaker 2 (01:20:44):
Yeah, I had to step out of the room when
you were talking to James, and I couldn't hear. Oh, okay,
so there's racing New Year's even New Year's Day.
Speaker 5 (01:20:53):
Huh. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:20:55):
I'm going to read something from Joe Palmer just for
the hell of it. And this is called Vice Triumphant.
And this is Joe Palmers and this was racing one
of his columns, and it's a pretty good one. So
I sink I run. The same male brought a notice
of a new motion picture name under my Skin, presumably
(01:21:19):
without racing, and the copy of a violent protest by
the National Steeplechasing Hunt Association to the producers of this
movie on the ground that it represented steeplechase writers as crooked.
To a man who has seen good many racing movies,
there was no great point to reading all the way
through either the notice of the protest, this department we'll
(01:21:43):
never see under my Skin, having given up jack stalls,
lettered blocks, the movies, and all drinks containing grenadine in
that order. But I wonder if racing isn't a little
oversensitive about the way it's handled in Hollywood. There's no
question it's handled badly. The question is whether anyone should
(01:22:03):
mind what isn't The triumph of virtual device is the
only serious pot known to the motion picture industry, or
at least it was when I used to see William S.
Hart discouraging the rustling of cattle, Francis X. Bushman getting
cut down on the Stretch termed by Ramon Novarro and
(01:22:24):
Ben Hurb. If the movies have learned anything since, I
think i'd have heard about it. It isn't as if
the other professions fared any better. I seem to remember,
as through a mist a picture named The Strange Island
of Doctor Monroe and Charles with Charles Lawton, And for
(01:22:45):
that matter, there is doctor Jinkle and mister Hyde. Both
of them dealt with physicians who had gone wrong. But
I doubt if American Medical Society could have been justified
in a protest that they portrayed the profession in a
bad life. Consider the way the newspaper profession is delineated
(01:23:05):
in the movies. I can't remember seeing a movie reporter
who wasn't dissolute, irresponsible and brilliant. Yet I know good
money who were just merely dissolute and irresponsible. The point
is that there are only a few ways to complicate
as a racing story. Think of what a picture would
be if you tried to show how Warren Wright won
(01:23:26):
a triple crown with citation by spending all kinds of
money on earlings, buying brood mares at their expensive prices,
and paying any kind of price for the best trainer
in the country. It would take drama, wouldn't it. They
had to be a villain. A very few gifted writers
have managed to racing manage racing stories without evil influences.
(01:23:51):
In the Key Race, John Tainterer Foot did it. In
the Look of Eagles, a sentimental and had appealing story.
Jamie Quard quote wrote my favorite racing story of them
all and item named What's to Get You?
Speaker 5 (01:24:07):
I don't know that one, do you know? John Taina
Flint know very well anyway? And of course there was.
Speaker 3 (01:24:14):
National Velvet, which got into the movies without damage. Personally,
I have seen only one fixed race, one that I
know was fixed beforehand. That is that was a steeplechase
down in Maryland a few years ago. And even in
that Virtue triumph there was an eagle bird in the sale.
(01:24:36):
You ought to know what an egobird is but if
you don't, it's an unfixed horse in a fixed rate.
This one was in the hands of a trainer who
wouldn't stand for monkey business, and he was ridden by
a jockey who was smart enough not to bet the
rest of his life against the afternoon's game. The horse
had bad knees, so the race was fixed without him,
(01:24:56):
on the theory that he couldn't win it anyway. Well,
the fix was going good up to the last fence,
but there the eagle bird, bad kneeds and all scrambled
over on even terms and beat the elected horse in
the flat run. In the finish. The jockey on the
fix was suspended that afternoon, and a little later racing officials,
(01:25:17):
in conjunction with police, fit a trap which caught the
rest of the voters, and they're now down for life.
So much for fixes. If we could get the same
percentage of honesty in the legislature or in Congress, that
would do at Jamaica would have a government against which
the ways of communism would break unavailably. There's another side
(01:25:38):
to this too. A prominent official wants remark, if he
could convince everybody that this game is on the level,
we'd go out of business. It was said facetiously, but
the man knew what he was talking about. There would
be lining up at the windows all this season. A
considerable number of citizens who hope the fourth race has
(01:26:02):
been tampered with, and then they're in on the right
side of it. There is also the question of unemplollment,
not serious during the war, but of growing importance. Now
this was written back in the nineteen thirties. By the way,
a quite responsible number of not very respectable citizens made
a living sell in larcracy, and you selling larceny. And
(01:26:25):
you would be surprised to know how many revenable businessmen
can be separated from actual cash at the site of
a battery which will never appear on any racetrack, but
is represented as being the causation, the causative agent for
an upset victory Charlestown. Well, if some people weren't persuaded,
(01:26:46):
how would our hustles live. That kind of reminds me
of something I interviewed this guy. There was an elderly guy,
and he was used to write races in the bushes
many years ago, and he was telling me the story
(01:27:09):
one time I interviewed him for this show as a
matter of fact, and I think I recorded it. If so,
it's they've got it out of Keenan, but in the
life of at that. But anyway, he was telling me
about the use of batteries, you know, which is an
(01:27:31):
electrical shop to make cautious run. He says, they were
loading at this track and load them all up and everything,
and the stewards pulled up and says, all I everybody,
I want everybody here's carrying a battery here to get
(01:27:52):
rid of it, and get rid of it now. Are
you're going to be ruled all for life?
Speaker 5 (01:27:56):
And he said you could hear him hitting the ground
up and down. So you know, I said, is that right?
Speaker 3 (01:28:04):
I said, well, how did you run? He says, I wanted.
Speaker 2 (01:28:09):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:28:09):
I says, that's great without a battery. He says, no,
I didn't get rid of mine.
Speaker 5 (01:28:16):
That's funny. I remember when you talked about that. Funny.
Speaker 3 (01:28:22):
I interviewed him and sitting in my truck out there
with a recorder at out at the.
Speaker 5 (01:28:31):
At the training star. Yeah, and over there.
Speaker 3 (01:28:34):
Next to where we that little stone building where we
used to it was setting that right out there talking
about things.
Speaker 2 (01:28:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:28:41):
He was an interesting guy to talk to.
Speaker 3 (01:28:44):
But he came up with that. That's funny, he said,
I wanted I didn't throw mine away.
Speaker 2 (01:28:52):
Oh you know we were talking about the huge boys
that got killed it and Russell Kay. That was Lawrence
Hughes his Yeah, Lawrence was one of them. They were three,
and I remember the third, but that I remember Lauren Ya.
Speaker 3 (01:29:06):
He was right ahead the barn, right up to We
were in barn eighteen and he was right up the
top of the hill up there. Yeah. Nice guy, nice guy, Yeah, good,
one of the good guys. He got tired and we
were tired. Yeah, and he was all right.
Speaker 5 (01:29:20):
I liked him.
Speaker 2 (01:29:21):
He was very nice.
Speaker 3 (01:29:23):
Where are we Darby Dan, Arby Dan, my good friends
and mister Stuart Fitzgibbons out there, one of the good guys.
Oh yeah, he's funny.
Speaker 2 (01:29:35):
Cool. Yeah, that's his answer to everything.
Speaker 5 (01:29:39):
Cool.
Speaker 2 (01:29:43):
His kids told him he was too old for that word.
Speaker 5 (01:29:50):

Speaker 3 (01:35:47):
Yeah, oh, I know. You had a hard time keeping blacksmiths.

Speaker 5 (01:36:36):
He was really really nice guy, married to a lovely girl.
Speaker 3 (01:36:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:36:41):
Anyway, Yeah, go ahead, and I'm gonna say something about
the Keenland if I'm not mistaken. Once a month Keenland
has these uh library lecture series and this next one interesting.
It's all get out now Gary A. Odell discussing reinventing
(01:37:02):
the American though bread. This is on Wednesday, January twenty first,
six point thirty at the library. What's interesting is this
is about a guy named Alexander Keene Richards in nineteenth century,
that's the eighteen hundreds imported in bred horses, and he travels.
(01:37:26):
You talk about thinking outside the box. He traveled thousands
of miles into the heart of Syria in eighteen fifty one.
In eighteen fifty five to get Arabian stock transport to
his breeding farm Bluegrass Park near Georgetown. Wouldn't you like
to know where that was. And he had a place
(01:37:48):
called Transylvania in East Carol Parish, Louisiana, and his trainer
was Hall of Famer and still William, who was a
slave at the time. Not very long because preson was
the war, and anyway, the names just pop up. This
(01:38:10):
is his first comprehensive biography. Epic tale of adventure, experimentation
and devastation illuminates the history of the American thoroughbred industry
in the Civil War era.
Speaker 5 (01:38:23):
I want this book. This sounds wonderful.
Speaker 2 (01:38:28):
Gary O'Dell has a PhD in geography, taught it Morehead
for twenty three years. He just retired a year ago
and he is the state geographer. But this is Can
you imagine in eighteen fifty one hopping yourself on some
(01:38:48):
kind of a boat, I mean, some wooden thing with
sales and going across the ocean and traveling all the
way to Syria.
Speaker 5 (01:39:00):
When they didn't even have roads hardly.
Speaker 2 (01:39:03):
It's real interesting because I want to see what he
says if the breed was transformed by the Arabs. You know,
we had the three foundation the Godolphin come on three
foundation sires, and I'd like to know when these horses
(01:39:27):
were used to breed, because there was some thought for
a while. That's the little English mayors who were very
fast were the ones that lent the speed to.
Speaker 5 (01:39:39):
The thoroughbred horse back in those days.
Speaker 2 (01:39:41):
Isn't that interesting?
Speaker 5 (01:39:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:39:43):
I can't. I got Gary O'Dell on Wednesday, January twenty first,
six thirty. It's twenty bucks. And if you want a book,
you probably ought to tell them because I don't know
how many they got. They said a limited numbers of copies.
The book will be available, so keenland dot com slash
(01:40:05):
library or two five four three four one two.
Speaker 5 (01:40:10):
It's an interesting one.
Speaker 2 (01:40:11):
They always have interesting stuff at those things. They have
a reception afterwards where you can speak.
Speaker 5 (01:40:18):
To the guy and all that.
Speaker 3 (01:40:20):
All right, it's been in a couple of stakes, so
he says, today at Gulf Stream and they were in
the grade three. Mister Prospector states because mister Prospectors too
over at Cleveland Farm. Oh yeah, great, great sire, and
Seth brought him up from Florida, Is that right?
Speaker 5 (01:40:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:40:41):
And I was talking to Seth, and you know, Seth
is a very modest person, of course, and.
Speaker 5 (01:40:48):
Uh, I says, boy, you've got to you know, you
brought that horse up here and he's a great sire.
And he says, well, well, it was a good time
before brought him month here.
Speaker 3 (01:41:03):
I said, says, you never take credit for anything. You're
the one that brought him up here.
Speaker 2 (01:41:10):
He's the one that brought him here.
Speaker 5 (01:41:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:41:13):
Anyway, it's mister Prospector Stakes Grade three and uh for

years the years, many of the greatest runners ever step
on a racetrack have been entrusted to their care, including Justify.
I saw the picture Justify getting all fun. It's obvious
their vehicles and equipment and tiptop shape. The single most
(01:50:29):
important safety factor is the ability and experience of the driver.
They've been in business so long they know how to
do both experienced drivers experienced horsemen. That's one, two and three.
That's three is the shape.

That's where your horse is going to end up, isn't it.
That's where the plan will be.
Speaker 10 (01:51:39):

Speaker 2 (01:51:52):
That was a good picture.
Speaker 10 (01:51:55):
Good look, Oh thank you, he remembered me. I didn't
know if he would or not.
Speaker 3 (01:51:58):
He did.
Speaker 10 (01:51:59):
He looked great right up here.
Speaker 2 (01:52:04):
Yeah, well, good for you.
Speaker 3 (01:52:06):
Good. Well, he's gonna be a two year old here
pretty quick. God, that's right, he's growing up fast. Knowing you,
he won't he won't run into father the next fall.
Speaker 10 (01:52:23):
I'm thinking, I don't want to be I don't want
to be in a rush on And it's fine with
me if he he starts running late number fall was
good enough for me.
Speaker 3 (01:52:34):
What was this holding day?
Speaker 10 (01:52:37):
He's April fifth. He is born on the first day
of Keenland on the year two years ago, a year ago.
Speaker 5 (01:52:46):
Oh, April four. Right, that's nice. Yeah, that's that's.
Speaker 3 (01:52:51):
That's that's that's that's plenty.
Speaker 2 (01:52:53):
I forgot his name. What's his name?
Speaker 10 (01:52:56):
His registered name is good rock and Daddy, which comes
from a Steve Grel song.
Speaker 5 (01:53:01):
But his bar name is Rocky.
Speaker 2 (01:53:05):
Okay, Rocky Rocky.
Speaker 5 (01:53:07):
We had a Rocky.
Speaker 3 (01:53:08):
Yeah, we had a Rocky. Hope hopeful Rocky runs better
than our Rocky did.
Speaker 5 (01:53:14):
I won't try any harder.
Speaker 3 (01:53:17):
Yeah, people took care of him.
Speaker 10 (01:53:19):
Came up with Rocky because you know, Birdie tried to
kill him and kicked he but you know the but
he didn't fall down.
Speaker 5 (01:53:27):
When he got kicked.
Speaker 10 (01:53:28):
So that's why that's where the Rocky came from.
Speaker 3 (01:53:32):
Okay, can you tell us something real quick, we don't
have much time left for just a couple of minutes.
Speaker 10 (01:53:39):
Yeah, just something from racing that people may have seen
his You know, they've set a level, an allowable level
now for the drug met foreman, and you know I
can't find any reason much at all to give me
formature racehorse. We used it older horses or not. Sorry,
younger horses have met a box syndrome, you know, those
(01:53:59):
horses that are overweight and you don't have to wear
muzzles in the spring and all. Because what that drug does,
at least the horses, one humans too is that it
inhibits the absorption of sugar blood of glucose from intestine
into the in the blood, so that reduces insulin and
helps to reduce founder. But humans take that too. Humans
(01:54:21):
have like the type two diabetes, the humans that don't
take an insulin shot. But what happens with matt forman
is almost all of that drug goes out in the urine.
So again people are all those you know. That is
so you don't want to urinate in the stall, you know,
or if you had like a track pony or something
(01:54:41):
you had on met Foreman, you know, you want to
be careful with that. And there's been you know, several
cases where you know, all the evidence points to, you know,
the trainer of the groom was taking met Foreman, you know,
ate their lunch or whatever, take the horse to the
track and just by putting the bridle in contaminated the
(01:55:03):
horse enough that it can test positive because the levels
have been really small on those cases. So you know,
if you have people that work for you that are
taking met forman, you know, be extra extra careful.
Speaker 3 (01:55:16):
Because virtually all that drug goes out as the active.
Speaker 10 (01:55:20):
Drug drug in the urine. And you know, I would
say make sure you wash your hands really really good,
and I would say, you know, don't even get met
forming around your horses. We have that allowable level now,
which you know, everything I can see on that's you know,
is around the correct number, but it's not worth a chance.
So if you got met forman and humans or other
(01:55:43):
animals around your race horses, just just be extra careful
because it's just not worth the risk.
Speaker 3 (01:55:50):
Okay, all right, Well, well I'm sorry we kind of
cut you short, really, but I'm.
Speaker 2 (01:55:58):
How is your Christmas?
Speaker 5 (01:56:01):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:56:01):
It was good. I got to spend time with most
of my family and got my mom. We just hired
to do this done.
Speaker 5 (01:56:10):

Speaker 6 (01:56:14):
Well, it was Jackie broke off rib and uh we've
been having kind of quiet, quiet Christmas, you know, happy
New Year anyway.
Speaker 10 (01:56:28):
Yeah, well that would be good. Yeah, so yeah, you
guys too.
Speaker 3 (01:56:31):
