Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome in Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I am
Anthony White along with Jack Pilgrim, coming to you from
Clark's Main Street Market Studios and beautiful downtown Lexington, Kentucky. Uh,
good morning, Jack. How's it going on this beautiful Super
Bowl Sunday? Beautiful super Bowl Sunday.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
It is a beautiful Super super Bowl Sunday. All I
cared about coming in this weekend. I talked to Bow
before we got got started was a I needed a
drama free a Kentucky basketball game that involved Kentucky having
more points on the scoreboard at the end of the
game than the competition. I didn't care how it looked.

(00:45):
I didn't care who the leading scores were. I just
needed a win. I would you know, preferred a feel
good win. And that's exactly how it unfolded. So Saturday
was great. Sunday is gonna be even better. We have
this Super Bowl. We're packing up, getting ready to head.
We had a fami family photos, got a bunch of

(01:05):
family in town. My mom is a Christmas part late
Christmas present was a family photo shoot kind of upgrade
our our family portraits around the house at Mom's house
at at Grandma's house. So that's what we're doing this morning.
So it's going to be getting all dolled up for
the family and and we're heading that way here shortly

(01:26):
and uh and enjoy a Super Bowl later on this afternoon.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Was this pre planned? The family photos was a pre
planned because or from Christmas or was it everybody was
going to be in town and say, hey, everybody's in town, less,
let's get a photo.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Yeah, we we we. The gift itself was planned, you know,
got it for Mom for for Christmas, and then just
kind of nailing down the like hey when, uh, you know,
when when can the family from Austin, Texas get in town?
When can the family from Cincinnati get in town? I
try to, you know, kind of put it all together

(02:02):
and make this happen. So yeah, it's been a long
time coming, but nailed down the specifics. We've been you know,
in the process of that. But but hey, we made
it happen, and here we are. We're gonna I'm gonna
try to make myself look somewhat presentable this morning.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
And a lot of this show is going to be
about I guess Super Bowl fifty nine and his Bowl
post pointed out to me, Puppy Bowl is going on
this afternoon as well. But as you stated earlier, Jack,
the big news is the Kentucky men's basketball team got
back into the winning ways with the eighty to fifty
seven win here in Lexington over South Carolina game Cocks.

(02:40):
After I don't I've been thinking all morning how to
describe what happened on Tuesday in Oxford, But you kind
of you kind of threw that out of the way
because we did win. But I do question you how
feel good was to win. We did have a points,
we did have more points. We didn't get our twenty

(03:02):
five threes up. I'm not sure how bad Jackson Robinson
is hurt. We did get Lamont back. There's a whole
lot to unravel with that win yesterday against a windless
in the SEC, a winless South Caro a lot of
the teams. I really don't know what to take of it.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Jet, Yeah, it was you know, Mark Pope said at best.
You know, he was up till three o'clock in the morning,
waking up in a cold sweat, terrified that he was
going to wake up in the morning and be told
that Lamont Butler.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Would be out. Jackson Robinson would be out in kirk Rease,
it would.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Be out and whatever that looked like at the point
guard position, I guess otega and you know, Travis Perry
splitting duties plus Amari Williams giving it his best shot.
I don't know, I really don't know what that would
look like. But very fortunately he woke up and Lamont
Butler was good to go. Jackson Robinson, you know, played

(03:57):
not necessarily good to go, and he hobbled off a
couple of times holding his wrists and very very very
clear discomfort and you know, holding it going back and
you know, hanging out with the trainers trying to keep
it lose, trying so they you know, the good news
is the X rays, as the ESPN broadcast said before
it gets the game, that the X rays came back negative.

(04:18):
He did not have it, any fractures, any kind of
long term things. But it's a you know, a lingering
risk issue on his shooting risk. And the guy who
is you know, one of Kentucky's most prolific scorers and
shooters and you know kind of go to bucket getters
is now dealing with a yeah, you know, wrist injury
on his on his shooting wrist. So that sucks. And

(04:39):
when we're trying to kind of piece together this team
with glue and you know, paper mache and band aids
and just however we can put this team together right now,
that's the last thing that you want to hear. But
it was great getting Lama Butler back on the floor.
He looked good. He was wearing like this, you know,
the almost like these football shoulder pads. Anthony thought that

(04:59):
was kind of kind of funny. He looked, he looked good,
looked like a you know, cyborg out there, and played
pretty well, you know, kind of asserted himself, showed that
intensity defensively that Kentucky's clearly been missing and everything else
has kind of revolved around him and looked apart. So, yes,
I am going to celebrate that Saturday win. Knowing just

(05:20):
how terrible the point guard situation has been as of late,
I'm going to celebrate it and just kind of take
the next one as it comes. Yes, the stucks. The
Tennessee's coming to town and they're coming off a pretty
impressive win out at Oklahoma, and you know they're going
to be looking for revenge, you know, after what we
did to them down in Knoxville, So we'll see what happens.
But hey, we're going to take each day as it comes,

(05:43):
and today we're celebrating a big time twenty three point blowout,
went over the worst team in the SEC.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
And I know Mark Pope always says, be it be
in your place, or be where you are, be in
the moment, and at this moment, we are on a
winn Street. You got a one game win streak because
we did be South Carolina, but we cannot overlook the
points you made that I and it was on Jackson
Robinson's shooting hand, and he's I had wrist injuries in football.

(06:11):
I'm not trying to precisely put a ball in a
hole while I'm you know, while my wrist is hurting.
My biggest thing was trying to stop myself from hitting
the ground without it hurting. But it looked, I'm like you,
it looked very uncomfortable for it to be on his
shooting wrist as many times as he had to come out,
and who knows what Lamont Butler is trying to run
through screens and things that kind of concerned me a

(06:32):
little bit. I'm just we have eight games left. I know,
at a certain point of this year we thought, you know,
we could be battling for number nine getting come around March.
But if this thing doesn't get any better because Car,
I'm not sure if Car is any better, I'm not
sure if it's something that's going to ail him the
rest of the way. But his minutes are getting cut.
He's not looking like hisself out there a whole lot.

(06:53):
But what how do you feel as far as going
into March? Is it going to get it any better?
Or are we just have to keep crapping and clawing it?
You know, hopefully Even with saying that, Kobe Brea he's
starting to do a lot of different things. He's not
living outside of ARC, which I love him. Outside of Arc,
the guy can knock down. But now he's starting to

(07:14):
get into the paint something he's starting to distribute a
little bit. Uh, is it going to be everybody's Game's
gonna evolve and try to scrap out a win through
March and see if we can. You don't make any
kind of running they're in the tournament.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Yeah, And Pope talked about that, you know, he said
there's some kind of criticisms about Hey, why are we
not tightening the rotation? Why you know, why can't Amari
Williams play thirty three minutes? Why can't Jackson Robinson go
give you thirty seven? And you know, you see Cooper
Flag last night playing thirty nine f forty and you
know that that game that cleansing. He's clearly sick and

(07:52):
not looking himself. Why can he you know, give it
his offer for almost the entirety of the game and
Kentucky's struggling guys to play thirty and Pope kind of
said like, well, hey, you know, we're a Our offense
is more complex, We're you know, cutting and you know,
constant off ball movements that we're racking up more steps
and you know, more miles per game than other teams

(08:17):
in college basketball. It's not like there's anything against what
they're doing, but our system kind of, you know, relies
on people going above and beyond it in that regard.
So I think part of it is that part of
it is, hey, we don't you know, if we get
into a danger zone situation where we need you know,
Jackson's out for some prolonged period of time. Lamont's shoulder

(08:40):
is you know, kind of flares back up, and then
that becomes a long standing issue. We need Travis Perry
to be ready, We need Colin Chandler to be ready,
We need Trent Noa to be ready. So that's kind
of one of those deals where it's like, yes, it
sucks that we might take some lumps in the short term,
but if it means this guy, you know, the end
of the bench, guys who may not have been ready

(09:02):
before this, become ready as a result of this, then
it's a long term win and that we're gonna need
them in the next couple of years, you know, get
them ready now, and you know, see just kind of
see what happens. So I think Pope is is kind
of accepting of the short term lumps that are inevitable

(09:22):
right now and knowing that the long term benefits are
going to come as a resulting.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
And you've kind of wanted these guys to play thirty
upper thirties in minutes. Some of the guys we need,
you know, tightening up the roster. I was thinking, in
the first half of this game and this stretch where
we struggled a little bit, we've missed a lot of
I say, point blank shots in the paint some of
them just regular layups. We're just missing layups. And I

(09:46):
usually kind of correlate that to probably tire legs and
the bounce not being there. But in early in the game,
your legs really shouldn't be tired. But have you noticed
we've missed a lot of point blank in the paint
shots and is just regularly open lay up or slightly
contested layups.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
Yeah, and Folk kind of joked about, you know, Lamont Butler, Hey,
that's what happens when you have a guy who hasn't
played competitive basketball in three weeks, two weeks or whatever
it's been, you know, try to get back in and
you know he hasn't taken a hard contested layup at
the rim since he dealt with his shoulder injury.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
So yeah, like that kind of happens that you're you know,
you're you're seeing guys that are in uncomfortable spot having
to kind of find their footing again. So Lamont Lamont,
that very first smoked layout that he had is a
great example of that. But yeah, you know, with with
Jack's missing around the rim, I think that was kind
of in his head about uh, the you know, the

(10:46):
the his wrists and things like that. But outside of that,
like Otega, no reason for him to be missing around
the rim.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
You know, Amari Williams, he's kind of a unique situation
where he's finding his confidence and his groove is a
you know, kind of a dominant big man, so he's
kind of spreading his wings a little bit seeing how
comfortable he can get. Is kind of the guy anchoring
the middle. So some guys you can give an excuse.
For other guys you're like, hey, we need a little

(11:12):
bit more from you. And I think Pope has kind
of had similar missed messaging.

Speaker 3 (11:16):
With that as well.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
If you like to join the show, you can join
the show eight five nine to eight zero two to
eight seven eight five nine to eight zero Cats and
I will put this out there. Jack Pilgrim will only
be as he stated earlier, for two more segments, So
if you have questions for Jack Pilgrim, you would only
join us the next segment or the segment after that,
because we only have him until nine forty five. Then

(11:40):
we would go into the bullpen and pull out Van
Heus for the rest of the show. It would be
both Van Heus and myself. We will be back after
this year listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday One is sports
Talk on news radio six thirty WLA.

Speaker 5 (11:52):
This is the home of the Wildcats, six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday one of Sports Talk, Come
Anthony White along with Jack Pilgrim and Bo Robinson. Stockyards
Bank has been your trusted partner since nineteen hundred and four,
so head on over to syb dot com for all
your banking and financial needs. Jack Pilgrim, you know who
else has been your trusted partner since the nineteen hundreds

(12:19):
and I actually believe since nineteen one hundred and seventy seven,
are our buddy has been a trusted partner. Did you
know that, Jack Pilgrim?

Speaker 2 (12:31):
I did, and I'm absolutely grateful for their contributions.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
Absolutely everybody who does not know it. Happy birthday to
DJ both producer Bo Robinson. He is officially fourth d
I'm not gonna say. I'm not gonna say, but do
you feel any older today? Bo Robinson?

Speaker 6 (12:50):
I feel older every morning I wake up. Okay, now,
don't feel any different than yesterday. So uh, talk to
me in about a month and a half and that's
might change a little bit. But I appreciate the birthday wishes,
looking forward to a good day of the Super Bowl
and getting some good to eat later on.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
And that is why you just want to celebrate. I
picked up that on the music. I didn't know if
it was because we got back in the winning column yesterday. Well,
because it's your birthday and his puppy super Bowl and
everything goes.

Speaker 6 (13:16):
I love the Puppy Bowl. Now I'll get together with
the family and we'll do a little tail gatting on
the barking lot.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
All right, let's get to the big as for his
outlighted Just see what Roy has to say. Good morning, Roy,
what he got for us?

Speaker 7 (13:32):
Yeah, I appreciate you, guys, and I'm listen to you
for about two years. I accidentally found it one Sunday morning.
The basketball people needs to understand they need to give
Mark Pope a little bit of slack because he come
in done and had to recruit all those guys and
got him in done one month. This year he'll and

(13:55):
I'm not putting them down, okay, but this year he'll
be able to get uh in the portal and the stuff.
You know, I've enjoyed your guys show, and I'll listen
to it every Sunday morning.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
Okay, appreciate you for listening.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
Row love your.

Speaker 7 (14:12):
Comments something footballer.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
Anthony, thank you, thank you for listening. Appreciate you. I
appreciate the call. Roy, uh, Jack Pilgrim. Maybe I'm different.
Maybe I wish Larry was here because he typically if
there's a negative voice that he may I'm sure it's
went through his ear and not saying it's coming from him,
but it may have went through his There have you
heard anyone not giving Mark Pope grace or you know,

(14:35):
I know you said something about maybe the minute distribution,
but he is, you know, trying to put piece some
things together.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Yeah. I think it's something that we just deal with
as a fan base and uh, unbelievable expectations. It has
been kind of disheartening to see how many people have
turned so quickly after some of the kind of ugly
losses early on here. In the last couple of weeks especially,
I just kind of thought that there would be a
little bit more of a you know, grace period, kind

(15:05):
of knowing that he did build up some unbelievable early
wins for us that kind of I think helped cover
up some of those early losses. So, yeah, I have
been a little disappointed in the fans, But I also
think part of it is fans have been you know,
I told you so, fans have kind of been waiting
for those moments, for his first slip ups that didn't

(15:25):
want Pope to be the hire to begin with. I
think those guys have kind of come out of the
woodwork and have been a vocal minority for some of
these these more recent losses. I don't think that's the
actual big picture pulse of the fan base. I think overall,
I think people are still absolutely over the moon with
Mark Pope, and I think last night was a good
example of it. You see his postgame radio show, the

(15:46):
crowd was great, and then you know for the radio
show that the entire that bottom bowl, the half of
the bottom bowl down at Rupferino, was totally packed and
fans waiting around for pictures and autographs with with So
I think I think the big picture takeaway with it
is that fans are still over the moon with them,
and you know, obviously ready to see this thing through.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
I'm kind of I'm kind of torn between what I
saw on Tuesday. I'm interested in how you feel. I'm
kind of torn on what I saw on Tuesday in
Oxford because and I'm not certain if that was the
blueprint that cal and Arkansas razorback set, just pressure and
high on the guards. I mean, obviously we have injuries
or whatever, but Old Miss came on turned us ever

(16:31):
each way but loose. So what what you saw on Tuesday,
what is more impactful to you? What you saw on
Saturday gives you hope? Or what you saw on Tuesday
is like I think they may have opened up, they
may have opened up for or unleashed the blueprint on
how to attack the Cats.

Speaker 2 (16:51):
I don't think it's particularly close. I think it's what
we saw Saturday. Because what we saw Saturday is the
team with its starting point guard, like I think it is.
It's so easy to get caught up in oh my gosh,
we just got our teeth kicked in down in Oxford.
And you know, how do you get down twenty seven points?
How do you get so lethargic? How you know where

(17:12):
is the urgency? Why are we not seeing a better product? Well,
you know, when you're when you're missing your I interviewed
at Kobe Braya after the game last night, and I
just kind of said, like, hey, what what is the
what is missing when Lamont Butler is off the floor,
And he said, our heart and soul. And it's like
when you when you're missing the heartbeat, when you're missing

(17:33):
the straw that stirs the drink, when you're missing the
guy who kind of helps move and put guys into places,
and you know, put you know, the energy that he
brings defensively, How contagious that is all of those things.
When when you put all that together, Yeah, of course
you're gonna see them look like an absolute train wreck
down in Oxford. Without them they Hey, you know, I

(17:55):
think they got by in Knoxville. I think that was
a little bit of fool's gold because you know, we
hit the big shots, they missed thirty five threes, and
you know, a lot of things worked in Kentucky's favor,
and I think Rick Barnes' game plan was pretty darn terrible. Like,
if you're going up against a team that struggles bringing

(18:16):
the ball the floor without a point guard, why are
you not pressuring ninety four feet? Why are you not
getting up under them and trying to make them uncomfortable
at the at the second they get the ball in bound,
don't even let them get the ball in bounce, Like
why did they not pressure to the point of uncomfort?
And that's what we saw with Arkansas game later, and
I think that's where some of the Arkansas frustration came in.

(18:37):
It was like, well, you know, how could we win
at Tennessee and then lose to these chumps, Like how
did that happen? Well, it's because Arkansas, to Cow's credit,
to their coaching staffs credit, put together a bang up
game plan that involved making our guys super, super super uncomfortable.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
That's what you know.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
Ole Miss saw that down in Oxford did the exact
same thing that hey, we're not going to let them
get the ball of the floor. Let's see if they
can score. You know, we're being pressured ninety four feet
and we could. That's how we get down twenty seven points.
That's how we get our teas kicked in in Oxford.
So seeing our starting point guards back doing what starting

(19:15):
point guard things do, you know, that's what you want
to see. I love the effort on Saturday, and I
think that's what we're going to see in the future.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
More basketball talk when we come back. You were listening
to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on news Radio
six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 5 (19:29):
This is the home of the Wildcats, six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
Welcome back Stockyards Banks Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Jack Pibber and Boa Robinson. This hour
of Sunday Morning Sports Talk is brought to you from
my country boy Brewing. The big Ass Fans hotline is
starting to fill up. A lot of people got comments.
I think everybody's happy we're back to our winning ways.

(19:54):
But before we get to the phone lines, Jack Pilgrim,
Pam wants to new do you have any insight on Maui?
Because she understands that we have to schedule it two
years out, so she doesn't know if that'll be twenty
twenty six, twenty twenty seven, because Cal refused to go.
Do you have any insight on Pope going to Maui?

(20:15):
Because he says he's going to go.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
Yeah, He's talked about it a couple of times, and
I think Pope got himself in a position where he, uh,
you know, wanted to play the hits and and you
know tell fans like, hey, we want to do this,
we want to do that, Hey, we're going.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
To prioritize this.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
We're going to prioritize that, we're going to get uh,
you know, we're we're going to get Saint John's on
the schedule. We're going to do this, We're going to
do that, and not realizing that they had some prior
contracts already lined up and you know, the schedule only
has X number of spots to fill, and it kind
of became one of those deals where it was like, yeah,

(20:55):
I don't know if we're going to be able to
fit in a Maui. I don't even know, because we're
gonna do if we're gonna do this, is this, and
we got to kind of take out this. So I
have not heard that Maui is something that is is
even in the next you know, year or two or
radar of being added to the schedule. I think he
would like to get back out there. He'd like to

(21:16):
you know, find some of those you know, the hoops
giving events and kind of be a part of some
of the you know, bigger kind of national spotlight events
during the non conference schedule. Definitely wants to be a
part of the you know, the the scrimmages against Division
one opponents instead of uh, you know, bringing in kind
of mid majors for the you know, early exhibition games

(21:39):
and things like that. I think he'd like to do
some of the charity games. So I think there's a
lot that he's working on, but I don't know if
anything is in the works with MAUI specifically. I think
he'd like to get out there, but I think there
are a lot of more several more hurdles that are
popping up with with just how tight tight the schedule is.
He wants to the schedule to expand a forty games,

(22:01):
and if it were to expand a forty games in
the next couple of years, I think that would be
one of the top priorities to kind of get one
of those events back on it.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
So stay tuned, Pam And in our reality, though, Jack,
we could play forty games. If he wants to schedule
be forty games, he can make it forty games, you
know that, right?

Speaker 3 (22:21):
Just win, just win.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
Sick, just win six in March in April.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
There you go. Let's get to the big ass fans
hot line and see what John Short has to say.
Good morning, John Short, You're a great American, young great Americans.

Speaker 8 (22:35):
Now the only great win we had Max Fall. I
know we're also hold Jim Nexson. Is what we're doing well?
In some ball.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
We are four and oh. We are four and oh
after yesterday's doubleheader taking down Morgan State in Southern miss
You are right in Clearwater, Florida. Rachel Lawson got her
six hundred to win. John Short, that's good.

Speaker 8 (22:57):
Who do we play today?

Speaker 1 (22:59):
To We played Duke at eleven am, so an hour
before we get off the show. Duke that we will
be deep into the Duke game number four Duke, I
mean number eight Duke who played them down in a clear.

Speaker 8 (23:12):
Water We would be deep about five big and about
five runs. I wish it. I wish it's on w
L A P. I mean you just listen to on WLP.

Speaker 1 (23:24):
Yeah, I'm not I'm not certain if Bo can pull
those strings that something that typically Bo can. It's his birthday.
He might be able to put in a favor for you. See,
if he can get some up.

Speaker 6 (23:34):
I can guarantee that there will be some UK softball
later on in the season. And I think we like
to do that when the weather gets a little bit warmer.
But I think and I don't have the schedule yet,
But sometime around March we usually get a couple of
UK softball games in on the air.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
Gotta sit tight, John Short.

Speaker 8 (23:53):
And we played baseball. It's coming Friday. I don't know
it's being nine point five. The icons will be on
w l EP.

Speaker 6 (24:02):
Not sure yet. I haven't looked that far. Let me
get through today, John, But I will tell you this.
UK Baseball has an open scrimmage today a Kentucky Brown Park.

Speaker 1 (24:13):
Ad Yes. And the weather today is not predicted being
all that great. Is it? Fifties? Forty fifties? It has
been seventies and to go down in the forties. It
has been up and down all week long, John Short, I.

Speaker 8 (24:28):
Know that's a good up. Then I leave. We're gonna
be Tennessee. Five Biggins is coming teasy, I.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
Hope so because uh Jack Pilgrim has me. He made
me feel better than I felt before. But I think
they have a chip on their shoulder. And I think
they got the recipe for disaster, and I think they
got the players the reekavoc h in our backcourt. So
I'm kind of concerned. But if you say five Biggins
and and uh Jack Pilgrim is optimistic after the South

(24:57):
Carolina win, then I'm back optimistic.

Speaker 8 (25:02):
I always say, take you go to Mallie's and men's batts.
I ways see you tell you go to Mallie Women's matts.
I'ays see, Kenny, Hey, tell you go to Mali and
break that shit out in the Free City. And I see,
like I can't rouse to the same thing to you.
That'd be great. We're going forty games and men's basketball,
women's basketball.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
We appreciate the car John short, I'm gonna have uh,
your great American I'm gonna have Jack Piggan work on that.
So if we can't get both of those teams to Maui.
And before we get back to the phone lines, Jack pigrim,
I did want to ask you, and I know this
is kind of outland. It's just it's kind of crazy.
But when we were going through those point guard struggles
or just guard struggles in general, is it just just

(25:42):
stick with me? It seems really crazy. But is there
anyway that Georgia Amore couldn't play both like, both men's
and women Is there anything holding holding back from her
participating in both?

Speaker 2 (25:56):
You know, hey, she's she's one of one with there's
there is a debate to be had, Anthony that she
even though she's played one season, and it kind of
sucks that we didn't get to see this whole process
through with her, you know, arriving as the freshman and
kind of going through through the whole journey.

Speaker 3 (26:16):
As a Wildcat.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
But I am I'm here to tell you she belongs
in a top three list of all time Wildcats. I
mean what she's been able to do as quickly as
she's been able to just kind of uh, you know,
capture the fan base to you know, anchor this team.
And you know, it's so hard to rebuild, you know,
a roster from scratch into uh you know, when a

(26:38):
when a coach takes over and trying to establish a
culture and an identity and and you know all those things.
For her to be able to not only do that
as quickly as she has has, but to become like
a clear All American, a clear you know, National Player
of the Year contender, I mean, I I've never seen
anything like it. So uh, the next time that I

(26:59):
doubt George to Amo will be the first time. So
if you want to, you know, if Coach Pope wants to,
you know, put in the call and say, hey can
she can she run the ship a little bit? And
you know, hey, I know she can bring the ball
to the floor. I can tell you that we weren't
able to do that down in Oxford, so there was
a that's one step in the right direction. So I'm
not gonna be the one that picked doubt Georgia Amore

(27:20):
because I think she could kick my butt. So you
you you doubt her if you choose to, but it's
not gonna.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
Be be I absolutely agree Jack. And the thing, we
almost did not have her in basketball because when she
was on Sunday Morning Sports Talk, she told us she
played footy, which is nickname for them, which is nickname
for rugby, which is not really football, because she doesn't
see American football is real football. But she had to
stop playing footy which is rugby, because the men didn't

(27:48):
want the men didn't want her playing with her with them,
so she had to go play basketball and become great
at that instead of being great at rugby. Let's get
to the big ass phone, the big ass fans phone line.
Before we have to get Jack out of here, Mike
has to say, good morning, Mike, what do you got
for us?

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Morn guys, I just I just want to say anybody
wants it's not happy with Martin Hope doesn't know basketball,
first off, and then I wanted to make you feel
a little better about the Tennessee game because I'm I
really think you know, you hear everybody say that Tennessee's
a bad matchup for us, but I think it's quite
the opposite. I think we're a bad matchup for them,

(28:27):
especially at rough because we're after like ninety four points
in Reugh. I mean, we scored what's seventy eight down there.
I don't think I don't think Tennessee can score eighty
if we just play some defense, to be quite honest
with you, So I think we'll be Tennessee. And I
also going to run by Jack if this seems to
me like that lineup they had at Tennessee. Actually when

(28:50):
Butler rest, I think they should run that line up
because I think always better in that lineup because all
the shooters for are me. And we'll see what Jack
says about that.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
Thank you for the call, Mike Jack. You've your response
to the line up we used down in Knoxville.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
Yeah, I thought the length just really disrupted Zekai Ziegler.
I mean, he's a terrific talent, but you know when
he's five foot and nothing. I mean that you that
when you have Jackson Robinson getting up in his grill,
Otago Away was stronger physical, you know, getting up in
his grill, and you know Colin Chandler gave good minutes
and you know, shutting down Chas lay In Year Like

(29:29):
it was just a really really well executed game plan
on Kentucky's side. And I do think that the you know,
there's something to be said about that lineup and you
know the longer, more physical teams, you know, which Tennessee
is as you know, as physical, one of the most
physical teams in the SEC. I just thought, yeah, I
thought it was a really tough, unique matchup for Tennessee

(29:50):
to that you know, they're clearly really bothered by and
you know it helps when they missed thirty five threes.
But you know that's kind of you know when Mark
Pope talks about like, hey, we got to kind of
play the numbers and then we got to find our
our advantages on the in the lineup where we can
where you know, we'll we would rather Tennessee take forty
five threes in the game, knowing that they're a you know,

(30:12):
pretty horrendous three point shooting team, all things considered, we'd
rather that than then get downhill and you know, let
Chas lay near light us up and kind of find
his groove and they just executed a you know, it's
it's it's risky because if they had hit half of
their threes and we could have lost by you know,
twenty points. It's just kind of the the nature of
the game, kind of what what happened at Ole Miss.

(30:33):
They played the numbers and unfortunately the numbers, you know,
the beach it when you have malikdos of twenty five
three percent three point shooter, you know, hitting shot put
threes at the top of the key with nobody within
fifteen feet of them, you know, and he hits them,
then you just kind of say, yeah, we we probably
messed that up. Probably should have you know, probably should
have adjusted and and you know, gone away from that.

(30:53):
But uh, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I
kind of agree. I want lamont In there. I think
he's going going to you know, be a good disruptor,
kind of a good you know, neutralizer for the Kay
Ziegler and let Jackson guard Chas lay in the air
and kind of go through the you know, more traditional matchups.
But I do think that, you know, if we get

(31:13):
it fall into a little bit of a rut and
things aren't working the way we want. With Lamont, we
we have a pretty pretty firm product of knowing what works,
and what works is exactly what happened down in Knoxville.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
Know, we got to get you out of here, Jack
And I know the New England Patriots aren't participating in
Super Bowl fifty nine, but who you got tonight?

Speaker 2 (31:35):
I am going for anything in everyone other than the
Kansas City Chiefs. I don't care who. I didn't care
who was playing. You know, I'm a Patriots fan. I
I you know, I got to protect Tom Brady's legacy
as the goat. And you know, you got this young
whipper snapper kind of biting on his ankles and trying
to you know, all these first take idiots saying, oh,
you know, if he's a three pet, he'll do something

(31:57):
that Tom Brady was never able to do. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (32:00):
Whatever. I don't want to hear that.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
So I don't even want to give them ammunition for
their nonsense. I know who my goat is. I know
whose the goat is.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
And if it means that.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Mahomes has to lose this one to kind of help
solidify that and shut up some of that noise, I'm
gonna take it all day, every day.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
Go Eagles, and I'm rooting for Kansas City Chiefs for
just the opposite reason.

Speaker 3 (32:21):
Tail.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
Mom's happy February Christmas and marry February Christmas and you
enjoy the rest of the day with your family. Jack Pilgrim,
we will be back after this year. Listening to Stockyards
Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on news radio six thirty WLA.

Speaker 5 (32:35):
This is the home of the Wildcats, six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White all alone with DJ producer boul Robinson. Thanks to
Jack Pilgrim from JOININGU this sum This morning had a
family activity lined up, so he gave us abbreviated morning. Yes,
he is gone. We will have Van Hoiles on with

(33:00):
us from ten o'clock on to the rest of the show.
So now you're stuck with me. I'm not stuck with you, man.
It's the birthday yet, man. Plus you.

Speaker 6 (33:09):
You're always in a good mood. I appreciate that. And
I wasn't in a bad mood when I was playing
a little Ernest Tubb. Thanks a lot for John Short
because the reason I was playing that Ernest Tubb, who
I know is one of John Short's favorite Ernest Tubb
and I share a birthday. He was born on February ninth,
nineteen seventeen. I thought you said fourteen, No, February ninth,

(33:31):
nineteen fourteen. I'm sorry, I did say fourteen, right, yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
Because I thought it was one hundred and eleven years ago.

Speaker 6 (33:36):
So, and I like that old school country music too.
I think everybody knows that. So I threw a little
Ernest Tubb. And by the way, I'm disappointed in you
and Jack Oh. I understand Jack's allegiance to Tom Brady
and the Patriots, but I'm a little disappointed in you
on your Super Bowl picks.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
I don't know why you just if you want to
be disappointed in somebody, you should be disappointed in Larry Vaught,
and I taking you can't con him on your birthday.

Speaker 6 (34:01):
Well there your birthday a different subject for a different segment.
Larry's down Aaron King kun living up the life my birthday?

Speaker 1 (34:09):
What did I do wrong? Aren't they the football guy
on this show you are the most passionate about for
it's your producer and co host.

Speaker 6 (34:18):
I respect your decision, I really do. However, I've got
to go with the Eagles, not because I'm an Eagles
fan at all, but I am pulling for former Kentucky
offensive lineman Darrinard. Yeah, you're right because he could actually
have a three peat in Super Bowl championships. He won

(34:38):
two with Kansas City. Yeah, and he could win one tonight.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
Now that logic I can stand behind.

Speaker 6 (34:44):
Not bad for only playing three games in your NFL career?

Speaker 3 (34:49):
Did you know that?

Speaker 1 (34:50):
I did not know that.

Speaker 6 (34:50):
Yeah, he only played. He's only played two games with
the Chiefs, And I take that back. One with the
Chiefs and two with the Eagles this season.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
That kind of reminds me. I think, didn't Jared Lorenzen
get two with New York Giants or did just get one?

Speaker 6 (35:05):
I don't remember. I think he just got one. Okay,
Thady too. I have to double check on that, but yeah,
he did it.

Speaker 1 (35:11):
I'll buy that. I'm gonna pull for the Eagles in
only reason and I stated, the only reason I want
the Chiefs to win is because I wanted to race
that Tom Brady love the love Affair of Tom Brady.
I want to race that.

Speaker 6 (35:22):
So and here's another fun fact. I read about Darren
Cannard a few days ago. Do you know he is
a cousin of Dolly Parton?

Speaker 1 (35:29):
Did not know that? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (35:30):
I didn't know that either. He's like, I didn't even
know who she was and somebody told me. And I
don't even like her music.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
Wow, she's one of the greatest human beings I know.

Speaker 6 (35:40):
So maybe he's changed this tune after I read that
interview from a few years ago. But I thought that
was kind of neat.

Speaker 1 (35:47):
Well, let's get to the big ass fans hotline really
quickly and see what Larry has to say before we
have to hit the break. Good morning, Larry, what do
you got for us? Hello?

Speaker 9 (35:58):
Yes, sir, heyes, Larry?

Speaker 2 (36:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (36:01):
Uh? What uh? Before I just start the women's What game?
What stations that on? I looked for a thing, I
can't find it.

Speaker 1 (36:10):
They don't play until tomorrow.

Speaker 9 (36:13):
Oh, I thought today today?

Speaker 1 (36:14):
Okay, No, wonder at maybe because of super Well they
moved it. Probably ESPN two.

Speaker 9 (36:21):
Oh ESPN tee, I got it.

Speaker 3 (36:23):
Okay.

Speaker 9 (36:24):
Well, anyway, as far as the game, your studies wins,
the wins and wins. So you know, South Carolina, they
they gave their bells for a good games, and of
course we won by the margin we did, so that's
kind of encouraging. But uh, you know, uh, as far
as Kentucky, you know, it seemed like, you know, I
was watching, I was talking to mess about it. Some
of the turnos we had were like unforced turnovers. And

(36:46):
when I meant, you know, just throw the polity of
the person, throw it out of bands over the heads.
You know, we could cut out of them a little bit,
especially in these big games.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
You know.

Speaker 9 (36:54):
Uh, I know, we didn't have that many turns all together,
but they were just unforced turnover. Somebody just stealing the
ball but he just throw them, you know, to the
other person and things like that. But you know, I
think we can beat Tennessee. You know, I don't know
how how Robinson's going to be. You know, his wrist,
I guess is pretty sore, so that that kind of

(37:14):
hurt his error. But you know, we beat him last
time without a point guard, so of course they're gonna
come up here, really want to get eaten with us.
But I think Kentucky can beat him again. I swear to.
And one of the things, if y'all watch Arkansas game,
ICH like Arkansas was down betweenty and big z he
hit about five threes and they come back within three points. Now,

(37:34):
I was saying, come on, y'all lose. I don't want
y'all win. No that I against it. I just don't
want to calibry to win. But anyway, that's basically all
I gotta say.

Speaker 1 (37:42):
Thanks for the call. We'll throw that around when we
come back. At the top hour. When we come back,
we'll have Van House join us, the partner, my partner
on the locker. We continue this. We'll be back after this.
