Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome in Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on Anthony
White along with Larry Vack and Jack Piper. Finally back
in the studio. The ice is still here in town
and clerks, and that's why we're coming to you from
Clarks Main Street Marketing Studios in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. I
made it out of the yard. I slipped his slid
all the way here, but I made it here. And
(00:22):
Bo Robinson is here. You could count on Bout Robinson.
Just yeah, yeah. If you have to set your clock,
set time for anything, you can count on Bout Robinson.
Bout Robinson was here. Bo Robinson. Did you you've been
here all week? Or did you leave and you just
came back this week today?
Speaker 2 (00:39):
I finally left Monday at twelve thirty and got out
of here. But I've been walking back and forth a
little bit between the studio and home as well. They've
called me into action a little bit, doing some traffic
reports and just take care of some odds and ends
that I could take care of at home. Too happy
to help out in this time where we need to
all pull together and get everybody through.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
And I'm very.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Happy about the wind last night and I'm happy that
Larry Vaunt has survived the bomb cyclone down at Myrtle Beach.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Well, he didn't have to go to Burtle Beach. You
could have stayed here in the snow with us. So
I don't have sympathy for him that like you do.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
I'm just happy we have everything hooked up right now
as of nine oh eight.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
I would have preferred to have done it at home. Again,
I don't know what it sounded like, so if anyone
could tell us last week with his song like Jess,
so we'll know for future purposes if we ever get
snowed in again. This is the South mid South, so
we don't really get a whole lot of snow that
will obstruct us from doing our jobs. But we are
all here. As both said, I appreciate it, And again
(01:43):
I would like to say on air, I appreciate all
Bull's efforts because he's here today. He hunkered down all
last weekend and made sure not only our show, every show,
anything you heard on the radio. Paul Robinson was the
one I think sacrificing. So both you, I appreciate you well,
thank you. While Larry Vaughd is sitting on the Beach.
(02:03):
I appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Maybe I get in on one of these trips with
Larry one day down to Myrtle Beach.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
He should take us to one of them, Larry Vaught,
I got I got two questions for you. One are
you Apple or Android? Because there's a reason I got
that question because when I message you all, there's different
ways I expect you to receive the messages. If you're
Apple Android, I know you won't know. Just answer the question.
If you don't know, that means you have an iPhone
(02:30):
or another phone because everything else is Android. And secondly,
when is one time you are not your listening to
the intro to this show? When is one time you
absolutely not supposed to count your money? But go ahead,
Larry Vodo Apple Android?
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Well, I've got an Android because I can't afford an Apple,
and my dad always told me they were to count
my money in public.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Huh that's what you come up with? Yes, okay, Bou Robinson.
When do you not count your money? When are you
absolutely not supposed to count your money? When is it
not a good idea? I'm gonna say, I'm not gonna
say absolutely not at the rates track, Oh my god,
Jack Pilgrim, Apple or Android? And when should you?
Speaker 4 (03:16):
What?
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Is it really not a good time to count your money?
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Apple? And I am not quite sure.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
When you're sitting at the table, When you're sitting at
the table, Oh my god, Bou Robinson, how do you feel.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
I'm proud of you for quoting Kenny Rogers.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
I really am. I thought that was simple.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
I thought I would be the only one who wouldn't
get it. Well, you've thrown the curveball at us here.
I mean, we're all set to talk about stand comingy
ball in Arkansas because letter're talking about gambling.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
No, it's good, No, it's gonna it's gonna get into
the show. Point was when we were listening to the intro,
I was like, huh, I do I've always loved that.
My dad was a big Kenny Rogers fan. Okay, but
I figure you definitely would have got it. Larry probably
and Jack mayer Man out of it. So but he
just said, I don't know. So he played the cool
that's that's fine, But never count your money when you're
(04:11):
sitting that, Uh, what about you? I had found out
that is true. I have found I never I never
look at my chips. I pushed my chips aside. I
just stack them. I don't even look at them when
I put them on the placement to play. I just
grab some and put them out there with the time.
Let me let me see how much i' up.
Speaker 5 (04:29):
Let me see him.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
I you got every single time, not half, not a quarter,
not a ninetyer. Every every time at dwindles down, it goes.
It goes down to I lost what I've gained and
I lost what I brought. So yeah, but the whole
point is it's gonna enter, It's gonna intertwine with the
show somewhere both. So just stay tuned, Just stay tuned,
(04:51):
Larry Vaught. Other than being an Android user, and uh,
I guess you probably you don't seem like a gambling
type guy, so I understand you not getting how's your week, man?
Speaker 3 (05:03):
All week has been very good. Got out, got out
of Kentucky and came to Myrtle Beach for a couple
of weeks, like we normally do it this time of year,
just because it's at a rate I can afford. The
food's as good as ever at this time of year.
And now for the second straight year we've been at
the beach when it snowed, and there's about summer between
(05:23):
three and four inches of kind of light snow, really
type snow here today and the city is well, I
would say.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Shut down three or four inches really, yes, And I
really don't know how three or four inches becomes light
snow like. It's not packing, is it. But I was
so in the weather would make it wet where it
would pack or get.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
That's the way it was last year when we were
here and everybody was out making snowballs to have snowball
fights and that kind of stuff. And I had been
over to the beach at as far as it didn't
start snowing about two o'clock or something like that last night,
so I had been over to the beach. I was
out in the parking lot helpful guys working here clean
up a little bit, and was helping clean up a
few cars earlier this morning. But it's a real pottery
(06:12):
type so today, So I don't think it'll As the
day goes on, I think the impact will be less
and less, except the majority of people here have never
driven in an inch or stuff, and just the idea
of that they just shut down.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Yeah that I mean Atlanta, Georgia, is like that. I
did not know that if you're driving on the freeway
in Atlanta, Georgia and there's a snowstorm coming, you have
to get out of your car on the freeway and
leave it. And I think emergency vehicles buses come pick
you up and you just leave your car there into
the snow clears. Yeah, and that is true. And I
(06:46):
thought when my uncle told me that, I thought that
was crazy. But when I saw with my own eyes,
I was like, you come back and pick your car
up in it's dns all in your car and it
But I guess it's for emergency viggs to get through.
So I can imagine anywhere in the Southwood, you know
what kind of be like that. Uh, stay off the
roads if the snow because everybody's not accustomed to driving
in it.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
So it's gonna be a fun, fun day here though
I always I enjoyed last year getting to see the
people react and they've never seen snow and play in
it at all, because they've been about thirty thirty two
or thirty three years since they've had a snowfall here
at Myrtle Beach. Last year because there's not a snowplow
or anything.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Didn't think about it.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
I think I heard on the.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
I think I heard on the news last night that
they had one salt truck.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Wow, you can go buy you a shovel and make
some money. Or you got you got a little Kobe
want you. He can make and he can make it killing.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
They don't sell shovels here, they don't have them.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
That's true.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
Would you say both say well, that's okay. According to everybody,
we don't have any snowplows here and only one salt truck.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Good one though, Jack Pilgrim, Jack Pilgrim, how was your weekend? Uh,
I'm not I did. I didn't not state that I
have an apple and an enjoy use. I keep one
of each just so I don't have to be involved
in the debates. But I do have an opinion, but
neither one that won't be advantageous to anyone but Jack Picklem,
how is your week?
Speaker 4 (08:13):
It was? It was great. I enjoyed being able to,
you know, hanging out on the snow with the with
the babies and do the sledding and all that fun stuff.
Once all that the snow hit. You know, we talked
last week that it was a little disappointing to wake
up on that Sunday morning and have it be two
inches of snow, So I at least appreciate it. The
(08:34):
rest of the Sunday, we got to see some you know,
real accumulation. And you know, even if it wasn't the
two feet that meteorologists thought it was going to be,
you know, at least we got six inches or so
and and got to make the most of it with
the kiddos. But you know, the only thing that matters
waking up this morning is that Kentucky defeated one John
(08:57):
cal Perry in Fayetteville in a game that I just
have no idea how in the world they were able
to pull it off. I had zero faith in them
to do it. Just thought it was a terrible matchup.
Thought everything was working against them coming off that lost
at Vanderbilt. And just to you know, be there, I'm
here in enemy territory. We're packing up to leave right now, Joika,
(09:20):
this this morning, and I just you know, have that
this this sunrise is a little brighter this morning when
when you can celebrate a win like that, So, man,
what a what a Sunday? If if we're asking how
we're feeling that that is number one priority of just
just how unbelievably happy I am.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
And it had to be a whirlwind of a week
a week for you. And have you ever been to France?
Speaker 4 (09:44):
I just.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Have ever what you've been to France?
Speaker 4 (09:50):
No? I have not been.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
So how do you know we didn't have a chance
in France and winning this game? Because I heard you
say that we did have a chance in France, like
you've been there, Like, hey, if you go to France,
we're not going to win game in friends. But we
weren't in Friends.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
We were in Fayeville, any anywhere in the world that
this game was going to be played. I didn't think
that they had had a shot to do it. No,
I just I just man, just knowing how they lost
that game in in Nashville.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
They didn't even they didn't even attempt to win it.
So I don't know why you call him lost. They
that was there, that that that's there.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
But like Cal knowing how he approaches these personal battles,
like he always that that individual Rick Patino battle was
always always brought the best out of Cal when it
when he's playing like he's going against enemy number one,
Is you know, the person who slighted him or doubted
him or never believed in him, or whatever the case
(10:46):
may be. He always can pick and choose his battles
and he always gets you know, brings the best out
of them. And you know this this kind of felt
like that one. We saw how he handled year one
of it, and and just man, it was he handled
the emotions and and the you know, hatred and the
booze and all of that stuff at Reperena last year.
(11:07):
He handled it so well and his team responded so
well to it. I was like, well, shoot, if that's
how it was going to be at Rapperina, what's it
going to be in a white out with you know,
rally towel swinging in the breeze and and you know
the DJ Wagner and Billy Richmond and a bunch of
guys who are you know, very very familiar with this
Kentucky basketball program. I thought it was going to be
(11:29):
more of the same. So, uh, nothing but unbelievable credit
to Mark Pope in this group, because they oh yeah,
I chance in France, chanting Vermont, chansing on Uranus, I
don't care where where it is. I didn't think they
had a shot.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
We are talking Kentucky's eighty five seventy seven win in
Fatteville at but Walton Arena. Uh, there's a lot of
things we're gonna talk about today. We're gonna talk about
basketball the first hour. I got some questions for the guys.
The second hour and we have guests on to talk
about college recruiting and just college or athletes entering college
(12:06):
after being recruited. Then the third hour we will talk
typically you know that's where we kind of wind things
down and talk different things. But we will talk uh,
Kentucky gymnastics to third hour as well. But we're gonna
spend the first hour on men's basketball. Second hour is
gonna transition into recruiting. So if you do want to
join the basketball talk, which I'm sure a giddy jack
who's had a whirlwind of a week and every in
(12:27):
the fan base as well, then call the first hour
because I don't want to jump around from subject to
subject throughout the show because it makes my head spin.
We if you'd like to join the show eight five
nine to eight zero two two eight seven eight five
nine two eight zero cats, we will be back after this.
You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on

This is the home of the Wildcats, six thirty WLAP.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank, Sunday winning Sports Talk on Anthony
White along with Larry Vaughd and Jack Pilgrim. Stockyards Bank,
your trusted partner says to nineteen oh four. How good
(13:17):
is that?
Speaker 2 (13:19):
And I have been working on that since the final
horn sounded last night.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
That's great man, right on time, that is great stock.
I don't know if that's whyp dot com for all
your banking and financial needs.
Speaker 7 (13:31):
Now.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
I know that Jack Pilgrim is sitting on top of
the world. But Jack, you're sitting on top of the world.
You got to hold your thoughts because everybody has something
to say because this has been a whirlwind of a week.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
We're gonna get to.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
The phone line to see what Larry has to say.
Good morning, Larry, what do you got for us?
Speaker 5 (13:46):
Hey, guys, can you hear me?
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Yes? Indeed?
Speaker 5 (13:49):
Yeah, okay, you know, Asie, I don't want nobody's seeing
this coming, but we all do you know, we've always
played a good game in a bad game. I mean,
I'll tell you what if all the winds we've had. That's
the one I wanted. So I mean, that's that's the
one I think most of the fans will want be
their old coach. But uh, them kids came out unlike
(14:10):
last week. They was fired up, ready to go. Maybe
we ought to hire a psychologist go in there and say, hey, guys,
every game, say y'all got stalk last game, come on,
go some pride. I don't know what to take, but
it's in a real house that they could turn the
switch on and turn it off and sometime be in
the game and sometime not being the game. I just
don't think vanderberl You know, then didn Arkansas blow Vandy
(14:32):
out that arkasol?
Speaker 4 (14:36):
I haven't.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
I don't watch coach calls because I don't want to
hear coach cal stuff. I think I think, Larry, you
need to every game regroup yourself, just like the athletes should.
I think the fans should. And I've learned to do
that with our football team and our basketball team. You
win a game you shouldn't win, or you lose a
game you shouldn't lose, and you know, I just want
to be happy when we win. But I really don't
(15:00):
want to lose as much as we have in football
or basketball.
Speaker 5 (15:02):
Actually, yeah, I just wanted to beat out there. You know,
he good friends. You know, everything was perfect storm for
for Arkansas. You know, we come off a bad loss
and they had a white out, you know, and that
game meant something to cow He didn't want to lose
the Pope, and so you know, I was really, I
mean really happy over this. I mean I tell him
(15:24):
wife for the game, I said, I just hope we respectable,
you know. But I'm you know, I'm like a lot
of people who probably a lot of people shots saying
how in the heck does the team face so good
one week and the next game it just it's like,
well it just wasn't ready, you know, or there wasn't
no energy, but uh, you know it's I think everybody
had a good game, is except Johnson. He know he's
(15:46):
he had been two quick fousands done him in. But
but overall, I'll tell you what, if this team could
play like this, be ready every game, I tell you
anty they could beat a lot of teams. They probably
record be a lot better. Right now, after this here.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
We will get into that. I want to answer your
first questions. We just have a lot of calls. I
know we got guests lined up, but thank you for
the call, Larry. I will ask Jack more. Yeah. I
know we talk about football when we talk about the
record and we say, well, beating Louisville or Tennessee and
(16:24):
going this record in that record, and I don't know
how many people I don't echo. I don't echo Larry's
sentiments that this is the game we want to win,
so the rest of the season, and I know that's
not what we're saying. The rest of the season doesn't matter.
But I'm saying, does this win put you back into
confident category?
Speaker 4 (16:40):
Larry?
Speaker 1 (16:40):
I'm Jack or as you are you saying I love
this win. We still got more work to do to
be where we want to be.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
It's a mix of both because it allows you to
like it's a it's a meaningful win in the short
term for just what this team was going through. And
you know, on paper, yes, they won six of their
last seven and then it looks great. But you know,
I think after Vanderbilt we were thinking, okay, well did
(17:10):
any of that stuff actually matter? And the five game
winning streak of the well, two of them were against
squad threes, two of them were you know, miraculous comebacks
that you know were awesome in real time, but okay,
you needed an eighteen point comeback to beat a very
okay if not that LSU team in Tennessee. I get
(17:31):
that was an amazing win in its own right, but
you know there were caveats to all of them that
just the doubt crept in leaving Vanderbilt thinking you know
that you know, minimizing, delegitimizing the work that Kentucky had
had done up to that point. So for them to
win in this way, it kind of brought back the
(17:53):
legitimization of that runs big picture, like, hey man, this
team has found ways to win in so many different ways,
and you know we've done it. And blow out fashion
we've done it. And miraculous comebacks we've done it. And like, hey,
we got an early lead and we're able to hold
off somebody else's attempted a miraculous come back. All of
those things. Yeah, it does make you feel very very
(18:15):
good about about this team once they get to March, like, hey,
they're tried and tested, They've they've been through the weeds
and have learned how to get you know, winning the
trenches and you know, win ugly and win in the mud,
and win rock fights, but also win games that you're shooting,
you know, ninety two percent from the field after the
first couple of segments, so that, yes, I think big picture,
(18:38):
you can start to feel much much better about this
team and what it can do in March.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
We're going to callers, we have your hold. We're going
to get you on after the break, but when we
come back, we'll continue the conversation after this. You're listening
to Stockyards Bank Sunday One is sports talk on Who's

Speaker 1 (19:03):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talking Anthony White
along with Jack Pilgrim and Larry Vauk bul Robinson. This
our Sunday morning sports Talks, brought to you by a
country boy brewant. The phone lines are pretty full if
you like to join the show. Eight five nine to
eight zero two two eight seven eight five nine to
(19:24):
eight zero Cats. Let's get to the phone lines, and
our knickt caller is dying. Good morning, don What do
you got for us?
Speaker 8 (19:32):
Hey?
Speaker 9 (19:33):
Good morning gentlemen.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
Boy uh Bow's.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
Got it on, Donny, he keeps it on.
Speaker 9 (19:39):
I'd like to professionally analyze the game last night. We
ain't in no grand ole opry. We don't need no
roy acuff, Go Cats Go. Unpredictables, great game, max.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
Predictables, don I'm on it, Hey Bo, can we put
a pin in this? Unpredictables? Unpredictable, unpredictable? I like that,
I do.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
I do like that.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
And I asked a couple of weeks ago for a name,
and Jack failed me because he didn't give me a name.
There's a lot of good names were taken, but most
of the names are inspired by the season. If they
do what they're supposed to do. I think Don might
be onto something. And I don't know if I can
pay Don royalties. I don't have that kind of money.
But Larry Vak, you've been around for a long time.
(20:32):
You've seen all the nickname teams play so unpredictables. Is
it too early?
Speaker 4 (20:42):
Probably not.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
That's a very fear evaluation of how this team is
has been. Because I'm with Jack. After the twenty five
point slaking at Vanderbilt, I didn't think they had a
I won't say change in Frank since I've never been
to France either. I said, like that change period, Jackson,
no matter where they played. But again, unpredictables very very fair,
(21:06):
I think for this for this team, and hopefully maybe
that unpredictability will maybe something that will go away. Now
after what happened this week and they see the ups
and downs, what effort can do for him, maybe lessons
learned and the unpredictability will be gone from now. So
maybe two or three weeks now, we won't want to
call him unpredictables because they'll be very predictable and be
(21:28):
playing this way every game.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
But you know who's very predictable, Dugshalls, Jack Pilgrim.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
I know, I know, and we got we got callers
on the line, Jack, So I do want you to
address that because I was for years, and I never
paid attention till I was on this show. Even Mark
Berger brought him up, and everybody brings this guy's name up.
I don't pay attention to the refs. But it was
a whole thing that he didn't like Kentucky for years. Okay,
(21:58):
so now you've got Kentucky against Cow. So does he
not like Kentucky? Does he not like Cow? Does the
stench of cow still in Kentucky. What was your take
on Doug Shows? And why does why is there? Why
are there more technicals when he reps a game than
any know, you just don't have multiple technicals in the game.
(22:19):
You may get one. Two isn't a lot, but to
have more than that, you just somebody. I don't know,
what's your take, Jack.
Speaker 4 (22:31):
Oh, Doug shows. I'm not a fan personally. I think
when officials care more about their egos and you know,
the the showmanship that comes with being an official, and
you know, man just walking being in the building and
(22:52):
watching him walk over to that microphone every time he
was at the review monitor and had something to check out,
and he just would let his you know, big loud
voice just bellow into the into the the audience, and
just man, they were They were there for that, for
for Doug. Man like you, you could tell that he
just knew that he had the the world wrapped around
(23:15):
his finger. And they were all there for them. Every
single person was wearing that their white shirts and swinging
those rally towels around. They were there four Doug shows.
They bought, They spent spent all that money on those tickets,
Kentucky flew down to to Fayeville like everybody was in
that building to see Doug shows put on a show.
And you know what, Doug earned it. Doug earned every
(23:36):
single one of those seven technical fouls, all of the
times he couldn't handle Modia Batte, just celebrating into the
camera following a big important block on one end, but
allowing Darius Acuff to point to the camera, allowing Billy
Richmond to point into the camera and celebrating flex and
do all those things. Uh, yeah, you know what he
(23:57):
it was. It was a masterclass of of all things
officiating in all of the worst ways. From from one,
Doug shouts, go.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
Ahead, dog, I thought Doug only called one of the tantanals,
so he called the one on Pope.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
Uh he had, he had the the mo one as well.
And it's it's his present, it's his, it's his, it
is his, like the the his prancing up and down
the floor and just just the excitement, uh to man,
just really get to the bottom of of of all
of the not shoes in the game. He really wants
(24:33):
to get to the bottom of all of them instead
of just letting them. And yes, it's not just limited
to to Doug, but the entire officiating crew. I was
just not very pleased with.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
First of all, I would not let Doug Shells officiate
the puppy ball next weekend.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
People come out.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
The other thing, Tom Leach had the line of the night.
He said, Doug Shalls has spent more time on the
PA than the actual public address announcer. I bout fell
out of my chair listening to that last night. I
thought that was great.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
Larry Vaught, you you kind of sound like you're defending it,
and I don't have a you know, I've always been
a big proponent of it's hard officiating. I've tried to
officiate basketball and I was just terrible. So I understand
that it's hard. So I don't critique him a whole lot,
but I do like if you blow a call, for
them to explain why or you know why you get
seven texts on your team, I mean they're a team
(25:28):
of Is Doug a head official typically or is he
just or if there's basketball not have head officials? I
thought there was.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
Yeah, he was the head guy last night, and he's
usually a fixture NCAA tournament that gets picked the tall
pretty big games, far into the tournament, so he's been
around for pretty good while. It's respected among officials, maybe
not among fans and coaches. I don't like that sometimes,
(26:01):
but Doug doesn't usually take a whole lot of nonsense
when he makes calls.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
And that's what I said.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
I didn't remember. I didn't think he called the one
on Diabat, which is still I would like to hear
an explanation of what Moe said now without being there
to know what he said. He might have said something
that warranted it, because I mean, I don't know, but
it's a really strange one that he did. And that's
why I wish after games is sometimes officials can I
answer questions to explain why they made the call.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Yeah, And it seemed to me, and we don't get
back to the phone lines, but it seemed to me
that the refs were trying to keep some order of
disgruntled teams against each other. When you know, when you
like if you have Florida Florida State or Miami Florida State,
you like Ohio Michigan and you have those type of
games Kentucky Louisville, Kentucky Tennessee and football, if you have
those type of games, you kind of keep the chippiness
(26:53):
out of the way. The thing that really tripped me
out was arkisasan Kentucky early not rivals Kentuckokie and Caliperi
is a rival, but the players that play for Kentucky
have nothing to do with Cali Perry, So there's no
reason for this to be something to refs Gota. We
gotta maintain some respect, and we gotta know, like there
(27:15):
should be no reason for anybody to be mad at anybody.
Kentucky fans maybe should be mad at Cal, none of
these Kentucky players have any reason to be mad at Call.
Maybe Jasper and Noah's some of the guys that he
may not have recruited in state, but that was not
even the case in Arkansas DJ, so there was really
(27:36):
no beef to be had there. It was just an
SEC game. But they made it like we got to
keep ordering this game, and I was like, I don't
know what order you're keeping because it really shouldn't be
any animosity. Let's get back to the phone lines and
see what Jeff has to say. Good morning, Jeff, long time,
no here, what do you got for us? You're kind
of low. I can't hardly.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
Hello, ain't doing guys.
Speaker 7 (28:03):
I just want to say, Uh, I want to ask
Major Pilgrim when Dutch Showers retires, what are you gonna
talk about when he finally gets it up? Or if
he is he's young, I know he's the old guy,
whether he's his sixties or how long have you been refereeing?
I know't He's been ready for a long time.
Speaker 4 (28:21):
The question what I'm going to talk about when when
Doug Shows finally retires, probably world peace and ending hunger
and and all the all of the great things that
will come in the world once Doug Doug Shows retires.
Speaker 7 (28:34):
Tell you this, I don't care if Frederick Finstone and
body rebels referee if we win the ball game, because
I don't question referee. A's one time in high school.
I do high school days here in Tennessee. A couple
of years ago. It was a little day turned that
little Christmas a little round robin. Okay, this official of
one of our local coaches. Uh, he goes, you're never
school down on county, but he was. He was questioning.
(28:56):
He kind of wanted to talk to the official or something,
and the official told him to said when I'm making
a call. Don't you be questioned by call? When I
make a call, don't you be questioned it what every
call I make? You just go on, just just move on.
I said, what don't like about a high school? That's
when I went a high school call at our state. Well,
it's when a high school calls me an's sport. If
we move on, we don't have replay. We don't sit
(29:18):
here and look at study and worry and what I
hate replay. I wish's out of sports, like he's standing
at the LSU game. That shot at Old Way, there
was at ten of a second left on that shot. Cluck.
He should have been good. The morain O shot when
he wanted. There's no need to review that. It was him,
plenty of time he hit it. There's no need to
go overund look a find me or did he go
(29:39):
off in time? I don't know. Uh no, there's no
need to. But I wouldn't say about the ball name Way.
I didn't listen to it, and I didn't watch the game.
I listened in the last four minutes and Jack Gibbons, boy,
he was on his last night. He was really good
last night with Tom Leach on the color of the
last few minutes a game called about how they need
to score and all this over severing they made the plays.
(29:59):
A guy I saw a guy Friday night they teach
there's no way they're going over there. I said, well,
watch that look at and we're gonna get me, you know,
because they played so bad against vandabill and even the
old ways said that, said that they wanted to get
back on the court today, want to redeem themselves as
they played so bad against banded.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
Jeff, I got a real quick question before we get
you off, I got a real quick question. I do
I understand you? And you and Larry kind of echo
the same thing. And I told you I tried to
referee officiate and it I was terrible, Like guys wanted
to fight me and whatnot. And I'm not the smallest
guy on the court most of the time. But if
there is you when you're saying, if referee says I
(30:37):
make a call, I understand that. If I make a call,
move on. But if a referee messes up, are you
against the idea of you know, let me let me
speak to the public and tell them. You don't apologize now,
mind you there could be people losing millions and hundreds
of thousands of dollars.
Speaker 7 (30:54):
But they're never going to have prince compsat the gains.
Officials are never going to have I get sign tips. Well,
lest you have prinsed office and officials supper and answered questions,
they are never gonna do that. They're never gonna have
a press conversation. Well, why did you make that call
with two minutes to go? They're never gonna have a
press ground. Don't be doing dumb stuff like that. You
know it ain't ever gonna happen, so quit talking about
(31:15):
it now. I'm gonna have Doug shatsiper. Why did you
make that talk? What you call that ted clone up
such as such? With three men? Now, what did folk do?
Was he hard the official?
Speaker 4 (31:24):
That?
Speaker 7 (31:24):
What he got the technical? What did he do to
get it? He hate to do something to get the call.
He can't just stand there and say, well, I'm gonna
keep your tee tonight because I hate you. He can't
do that stuff. Now, what did he do to get
the technical?
Speaker 4 (31:35):
What did he do?
Speaker 5 (31:36):
Jack?
Speaker 7 (31:36):
Did he do something? Did he allright him?
Speaker 1 (31:38):
I appreciate the call, jeof I'm gonna let you out, Jack,
appreciate the call, Jeff, Jack, I am gonna let you
answer that. But there in the NBA it happens all
the time when someone looks at someone in the referee
feels like it's an intimidating manner. But I'm gonna let
you if you would like to Jack respond to just
question what he did, and I don't. I don't think
Jeff really appreciates your comments.
Speaker 4 (31:59):
About the Are we talking about what he said?
Speaker 1 (32:06):
What he said? Do you think Pope did nothing to
earn the tech? And if you do think he did something,
what do you think Pope did? I think is kind
of where he was at, Like he's saying you think
that he was just calling egregious text, but we were saying,
he's saying what Pope says something it seems like you
would offending nobody deserving a TECH.
Speaker 4 (32:25):
Well, he did earn it, but it was a product
of being frustrated at the previous call and them having
such a quick trigger to call the ten seconds right
at the hairline fracture millisecond on an ensuing possession bringing
the ball the floor. It was it felt nitpicky. It
felt like like again when we're talking three technical fouls
(32:48):
called in thirty eight seconds. It feels emotional, it feels
the way, it feels like you're buying into the crowd,
something that the officials are never supposed to do. They
are supposed to call a black and white. If it's
a foul, it's a foul. If it's a clean block,
it's a clean block. If it's a steal, it's a steal.
You're never supposed to let the outside influences of the
(33:08):
game with the fans, you know, the momentum with the fans,
and the temperature rising and all of those things that
come with being an enemy territory. Uh, like you. That's
my issue with with Doug. He gives He lets the
vibe of the game control his calls one way or
the other way way too often. And yes, so for Pope,
you know, he said all the right things. Afterwards, I
(33:29):
actually loved what Pope said. He was like, hey, you know,
whether they were text whether or not, whatever it was,
our emotions were in the right place. It came from
the right place for us to to unlock that fight.
That there have been times that this team has been
questioned with that they they where is the fight? Why
does it feel like these guys don't care or don't
have that passion or the want to that you know,
(33:51):
this this fan base had, So I appreciate that they,
you know, whether it was channeled properly, uh in you know,
in terms of a moment that could have really swung
the game in the opposite direction. And to their credit,
they didn't let it affect them, but they chose to
channel their your passion and energy of wanting to win
that basketball game at all costs in that moment. So
(34:14):
I agree with Pope wholeheartedly. Disagree with with Dougie Boy.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
That is Jack Pilgrim will be back after this year.

Officer and brothers and Will and Wilburn brothers.
