Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome Back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on Anthony
White along with Jack Pilgrim and Larry bo Robinson's Well
coming to you from Clark's Main Street Market Studios. Dusty
Dusty by snow Dusty like Like State Kentucky. I did
say we were going to finish basketball. We didn't get

(00:22):
a whole lot of basketball talking, but I did have
a clip that I wanted to run by you guys
a lot of wait to save that for the next segment.
I just want to wrap up this basketball talking. And
we have a caller, no callers, but I was going
to ask the same thing the caller was gonna ask,
but Jack Pilgrim after I don't know. And it's tough.

(00:43):
And I just love being a fan of sports. I
love being a fan of UK athletics in general, just
the the unknowing, the perseverance, the sweat, just say, you know,
just going.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
On competing every week no matter what happens.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
I don't all. I don't have children. You both have children,
So it's a little different that I have any connection
to the people that are performing. I just have a
connection to the game and the desire and the effort.
I know, that it goes into coming on the right
side of the column, and you don't always come out
no matter what your effort level is, you don't always
come out on the right side of the wind lost column.

(01:21):
And the caller was asking something about what is apparently
in the past he came in and gave prediction and
he thought that we were wrong, and he wants to
kind of know.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Now I don't know if he thought we were wrong. Oh,
he just wanted to know where we are at currently.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
As far as Final four. Yes, aspirations or Jack Pilgrim,
that we make it to the Final four.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Is that something.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
That's still in the in the picture, something that you
were willing to put some put.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Some Well we don't talk about gambling on here, but
are you put your name on it? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:03):
I don't think we're at that point yet. I think
we need to take baby steps and know that we
are still five days removed from getting our teeth knocked
in down in Nashville. So we we Yes, Saturday was
a massive step in the right direction to start believing
those things and start seeing the like, Hey, if Kentucky

(02:24):
were to go on a Final four run, this is
what it would potentially look like, yeah, I could, I
could buy in those things. And I think, you know,
we're seeing Mark Pope get the best version of him
as a coach, you know, starting to understand his rotations
a little bit more when they're tightened up, like when
he has decisions made for him in terms of who
he needs to play and you know, not not being

(02:45):
able to look down to the end of his bench
and have thirteen options to work with and not know
who to pick and choose and when to put put
him in and all that. Like the tighter things have gotten,
the you know, more efficient he's gotten with his rotations
and letting guys kind of play through some stuff and
build confidence and do all that. So we're definitely back

(03:06):
on track to you know, like hey were had they
lost that game in blowout fashion similar to Vandy, then
we would have the be having the discussion of like, hey, well,
is this team going to make the tournament? Is there
a chance that the wheels fall off and you know,
these last nine games and they somehow manage with a
really really hard schedule to miss it. Well, I think

(03:27):
we can pretty safely avoid that, you know, disaster night
in their scenario. Now it's about flipping on the other side.
How much can we use this to our advantage the
way Cal used that Arkansas game last year, that Kentucky
Arkansas game last year to flip his team's momentum and
become one of the hottest teams in college basketball down
the stretch. So it works works both directions, and it

(03:49):
feels much better to be on this side where we
can still talk about potential final fours and what that
would look like instead of the alternative, A jack.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Was it true that Arkansas was so penny if they
did not let any photographers from any Kentucky media outlets
in to the game yesterday?

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Correct, they didn't.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
They let them, some of them into the building, but
they had to sit like you only got a maximum of.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Two seats per per outlet.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
If they decided that your your outlet was worthy of
of two two outlets, some I know only got one,
only could apply for one. So uh, that was part
of it, you know, whether you were deserving of multiple
and if you did, it was no different than than
sitting in press row like Stephen, our videographer sat by

(04:38):
me the entire entire game because he didn't have a
video spot down on the floor there were no photo spots,
no video spots. Everything that he did was sitting right
next to me with with all the writers.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Believable, I'm full of pennings. You don't like the pennying, hiss.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
Larry Vatte, No, it's it's differently penniness professionalism.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
And I don't think I can remember a time in
my fifty some years covering UK basketball that any Kentucky
media outlets were just shut out for me able to
have photographers on the floor, that's just kind of a
common courtesy. I know in big games you have a
lot of requests. Sometimes you may have to rotate who
sets where. But if you can get a request for

(05:22):
an NCAA tournament, you ought to be able to get
a request for a seated or a spot at a
game at Arkansas.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
See now that you say that, I do think because
the professionalism is that there are people there on both
sides of the court that are somewhere for Arkansas, somewhere
for Kentucky. Some are just national pundits who are just
you know, record or just reporting. And you know, I
don't know if you listen to the live game, the

(05:50):
commentators weren't really complementary of Kentucky, as if everything we
did was lucky and.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
It was, oh, well.

Speaker 5 (05:57):
It was.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
I don't know, but I'm a fan of the game itself.
I just happened to be a fan of Kentucky. But
if I were a diehard Kentucky fan, I would have
took offense to a lot of the commentary. So I
don't know how the people are. You know, listen, maybe
you can tweet us or email us, or you'll call it.
I feel like the commentary on the live broadcast, the

(06:19):
national live broadcast was was pretty lopsided. It was more
about Caliperry and you know, an A Cuff and Brazil
and you know, al way they talked about it. They
talked about Nephew Johnson ain't kind of in a bad light,
but he didn't have his best game that you a

(06:40):
wanted to have. But whether at this stage or at
this point in your career, he ain't had a whole
lot of minutes. But they made a comment about him
being a freshman halfway through the season and some of
the mistakes he made, but he ain't if you can
be a freshman that plays well in certain games. But
they kind of said, and I'm defending him, and I'm
defending the part I'm being I'm being biased, but it

(07:05):
was just kind of I don't know why you pick
on somebody who only gets five three five minutes, Like
why even comment on them?

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Well, I think and Jack might correct me, come wrong,
but fran Frascilla's been, I guess, been really how Jess
for Johnson all through his career. And I think the
comments referred to when he came in and got what
two thousand and thirty seconds, He said something that he
just had to know better than that. He hadn't played enough,
but he had to know better than that. And I
don't know that I disagree with that, and probably his
dad wouldn't disagree with that, that he can't come in

(07:34):
and get two thousand and thirty seconds.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
I just didn't like the comment of you know, this
far along in your freshman season, you shouldn't be doing
if you're not getting reps in your freshman season, just
like we saw what cutter Bowley. If he's not getting reps,
and you know, you see some glipses of things. It
takes you quite a while to get your footing, and
you got to be able to play through mistakes. So no,
it's okay.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
So that was fine.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
I just I don't know it was amongst the only
other person they comment on was Old Way, and it
was seemed like it was forced. Now, yeah, if you
got the green light, I would take you know, it was.
I don't know, man, I could just be biased and
I really don't pay attention to that stuff.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
But I just go ahead, Larry. I thought you were saying,
so no, I.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
Just life and you said by it because that sounds
like me when I'm bragging on my grandson for what
he did yesterday at half I can. I was like,
that's biased to the inst degree. But I don't think
maybe Jack he didn't get to hear make some people
let him know, but I didn't pick up on that
same type of vibe that you did.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Okay, that's right, it just was.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
I do have a question that I wanted to bring
up before with Jack leave. So we're gonna head to
the break now. And I don't know if you guys
heard the comments that And I'm not a Dabbo Sweeneye
fan either, but he says something that I found very remarkable,
and I want to get you guys opinion on it.
When we come back from the break, we will discuss that.
You're listening to stop Yards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk
on news radio six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 5 (09:04):
This is the Home of the Wildcats six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Larry Vaught and Jack pillgle and bout Robinson.
Stockyards Bank is your trusted partner since nineteen oh four,
So head on over to your to your'syb dot com
for are your banking and financial needs. The guys, I
did ask you before, and I still don't feel like

(09:31):
we're finished with UK basketball, but I wanted to get
this out of the way, or just want to discuss this.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
It could be short before we lose Jack, but.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Dabbles Sweeney had a solution for has a solution Ford
integrity and bringing college sports back to where we want
them to be where they once were and still a
lot in il to nil in the transfer portal to
still reside in our hearts. And I want to let
you guys hear these comments and see how you feel

(09:59):
about the comments.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
This is the Home of the Wildcats six thirty Wlap
Larry Vault, When.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
Can we get this accomplished? Why is it not have
been accomplished? And do you have any insight on it
even being discussed amongst decision makers?

Speaker 4 (10:20):
No insight that I know of. Jack might have a
better idea than me. But my theory always is if
it's logical, it doesn't have a chance to pay No.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
But but you haven't you do you find any kinks
in what he said? Is there any problem anything he said?
Or do you think that's like I said? I don't
even I'm not even a Dabbo fan remotely.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
Now, No me either. That's why I'm trying to be careful.
Make sure I understand you get a chance to listen
to it again, because it all sounded, like you say, exactly,
very logical and the kind of thing you would like
to see happen, which is why I say it can
never never happen. Probably, But yeah, for Dabo, that was
amazingly logic.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Say, if you're gonna stay in college basically what he's
saying for those who made if you're gonna go to college,
you're gonna stay there three years. You're gonna stay at
that college three years. So even if you sign nil
that nil money you're paying. It's gonna stay at that
school for three years. If you decide to leave, you
got to sit out for a year, which I'm assuming
nil wouldn't pay you. But if your coach gets fired

(11:22):
or whatever, leave you can leave. If you graduate, you
can leave. And once you transfer and you go to
another school and you have to sit out of here,
finish your college, and we will.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
Give you that year back.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
It like I cannot even There's nothing I can do,
say or think of that would make me be like nine.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
I don't like it now.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
If you want to make the money, make the money
there so you don't have to have coaches recruiting paying.
You don't have the thing you had at Tennessee two
years ago with your quarterback want more money, so he
decides to leave, Well, are you gonna leave? You just
don't get any money and nobody's gonna pay you because
you got to sit out a year.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Like there's a lot of layers to that that I love.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
I'm just a little bit perturbed it came from came
from Damo, But but I.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
Love the idea.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
Jack Pilgrim, I don't know if you can find any
fault in what he said or how quickly we can
get this implemented.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
No, I get it, and and I think there's there
are a lot of coaches that are feeling similar about it,
you know, with the pushing for five. If you have
five to play five and you know you you get
one free transfer if something happens with your head coach
or you know, any type of extra circumstances. Yes, you
you get free reign to go elsewhere. But we also

(12:37):
can't you know, I think it it'd be easier to
write contracts out and do all that if if it's
you know, one one one school per nil contract.

Speaker 6 (12:49):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
And then you know, kind of like the MLB route
where if you're even college football route or if you
stay you know three, if you're if you decide to play,
you got to stay three years and all that stuff. Like,
I think that it'd be easier to write it into
the contracts if there wasn't so much uh, you know,
one year in, one year out shaking and moving. I

(13:11):
played at four schools in four years. I see that
side of it. I just don't know how it would
hold up in court for a you know, we're if
we're getting former G League place. I mean, we just
got a Amari Bailey is trying to make a push.
He's played ten NBA games and he's trying to make
a push to return to college basketball. So you know,
he's try going to take the NA to court to

(13:36):
ensure he gets to play.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
So I feel like, if if.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
We're already that far down the track, I just don't
know how they're going to be able to, you know,
enforce any of that stuff. So it sounds it sounds
better when it's coming out of a mic, a coach's
mouth into a microphone, But I think these athletes are
kind of having They have kind of a stranglehold on
the system right now, so it's sounds easier said than dot.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
Only one other question I got for you, Larry and Jack. Mean,
I do have one basketball question. I kind of wanted
to ask Jack due to yesterday's game. But here's the thing,
Larry boy, and this is the thing, I'm not sure
if the common fan is really keeping tally or track,
of which I really am. Although I love everything that

(14:24):
was said, the reason I've always been for all these
things is because you know, there's been guys who's gotten
to the doghouse. If you get into a doghouse with
the coach as a freshman or sophomore, you probably.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Gonna sit the bench for two or three years. And
I have no detail.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
I'm just gonna throw this name out there because it's
local and it's a good conversation.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
I'm not I don't want to.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
Support this person or anything else. But I remember if
Shane Boy's little brother, Aaron Boyd came very highly touted.
I don't know what happened with him, and I was
not in practice to see if he dropped footballs whatever reason.
He didn't do a whole lot of plan, but he
was one of the best player in the countries, from
the city, from the state, and I just know that
I think he could have went somewhere else and just

(15:05):
got a fresh start. Whether he did bad, hero he
could have got a fresh start. And that there was
no nil or nothing at that point. But it was
to the point where I wanted players to have some
leverage because I know there are certain there are players
that I know of personally that got in dog houses
and you got to stay at that college for however
many years, or transfer and sit out of here. Now,

(15:28):
I think the whole idea that I'm gonna leave more
money as a player, I kind of like it. I
don't like it for the integrity of the game. So
when people say, well, I think they should stay there,
so and so. So if you're gonna pay me and
you're gonna bench me, I don't have a problem with that.
But being in the doghouse is something that's been It

(15:48):
has been relevant for years, ever since I was a kid.
It's been relevant. Not to me on my level, but
I mean, I've just seen older guys that I'm like,
that guy was good.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
What happened to him? Somehow he got in a dog house.
Who knows?

Speaker 1 (16:00):
Personal reasons, educational, academic reasons, physical reason we who knows.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
But you had to just take it. But I'm so
now I'm kind of when the money comes into play, yeah,
if you want a guy to sit on your bench
for three years, paying whatever money you're gonna pay. But
the whole idea of leaving for money is one thing,
and the whole idea of these guys have to stay
here and they don't fit your process or your program.
So does that sway your thinking any Larry.

Speaker 4 (16:27):
Vaute, Well, first, I hope Jack and Bow aren't buying
in that you don't know anything about being in the
Dollhouse because you lived at the doll Gaus there in
the UK for a while. So don't you be trying
to run that balance. You don't you act like you
don't know what being in the doll House is like
because they had a big dog gas in your name
right across the top of it. And my guess say,
it's been a transfer portal inn you to never become

(16:49):
the all time leading receiver rusher at Kentucky. Am I
wrong about that?

Speaker 2 (16:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (16:55):
But the transfer I was able to transfer as just
a new coach came coach got fired. If the coach
hadn't gotten fired, I was gonna transfer.

Speaker 4 (17:02):
Yeah yeah, But but I mean you had to go
and set out.

Speaker 6 (17:05):
A year, all right, right? Right?

Speaker 4 (17:06):
Right? But yeah, so yeah, but yeah, I'm with you because,
like I say, you do see people get buried like that,
and I'm like you, I never understood what happened with
Andy Boyd. I'll go all the way back to young
Lanfi Danvil Donnie Red who played for Currying tumbled one
game after that that was it. He runs for one
hundred yards a game before tumbled one time and then

(17:27):
anybody as well have just came back.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
To Danville, Jack Pilgrim, real quick win, got a whole
lot of time. I will Mo dea body, Are you
cool with Yellowvick and the starting lineup instead of Mo?
If Mo's gonna play more minutes and bring that grit
and grind? Is this something that Pope knows that we
don't know or just put Mo in? I think we.
I think you bring yellow Yellovic off the bench. I

(17:50):
think he poses the problems that make defenses and other
teams have to adjust. So why is uh, why is
the a body not back in the starting lineup?

Speaker 3 (17:59):
Yeah, I just us Yellowish to make shots and be
more of an offensive fit for what Pope's trying to
run and get off the quick You know quicker starts.
I think that the system it runs more fluidly whenever
he's on the floor. And as we saw yesterday, if
it ain't broke, don't fix it. Whatever whatever allowed you
to make ten of your first eleven shots and eleven

(18:19):
of your first thirteen, do not do anything to change
that to fix itself. Yeah, I'm going that for offense
and Mo for defense, and physicality.

Speaker 1 (18:28):
That is Jack Pilgrim. Follow him when we come back?
Wherever counter gets that is Madden Greenway's new Kentucky's next
point guard, women's point guard. Will we come back? You're
listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on news
radio six thirty WLAP.

Speaker 5 (18:44):
This is the home of the Wildcats, six thirty w LAP.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on Anthony
White along with Larry Vault bou Robinson. This our Sunday
Morning sports talks about you by Country Boy Brewing, and
we're not probably be joined by Connor Gets, head coach
of Provadence Academy, also the head coach of our I

(19:15):
don't know how to pronounce I don't know how to
announce it, but Madden Greenway, a future women's basketball player
point guard at the University of Kentucky. Good morning, mister Getz.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
How are you doing doing great?

Speaker 6 (19:27):
How are you guys?

Speaker 1 (19:28):
We're doing good, Kentucky won are women are gonna try
and get back on the right track. I wish you
could send Madden up here a little earlier. That way
we could move Morgan to the two, and we can
move more Madden to the one, and we can get
back on the winning ways if we don't get Tianni
Key back, I don't know if you follow you OK
women's basketball, So.

Speaker 6 (19:53):
Yes, No, the men played a great game asterday that
I was one to watch take it to Arkansas, and
then the women are about to do the same thing today.
So ms keys listed as probable. So I'm feeling comfortable
about where or that women's team is headed.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
And what can you say about Madden? I mean, five
thousand points the other day? It seems like she does
everything in the city and at school. She plays every
sport and is a star on every sport. What can
you say about her?

Speaker 6 (20:20):
Now? I mean, you guys are so fortunate to have
landed Matt. You got the ultimate competitor coming to you,
multi sport athlete, wants to win in everything she does.
I just compare it to like as soon as the
whistle blows, you know, it's like a shark with blood
in the water, Like her eyes get dilated, and she
just wants to win at any cost, and doesn't matter
if she has to play defense on the best player,
if she's got to drop fifteen assists, if she's got

(20:43):
to go score forty points for us. There's nothing that
you can put in front of this girl that she
won't achieve. And that's on any field. Put her on
the soccer field, on the basketball corter, on the track,
she's going to make sure she wins.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
And how hard does it define growth in someone who
has achieved so much success at a young age went
to schools. Some guys who played varsity as a freshman
and never got better, didn't even get a college scholarship.
But how hard is it to challenge someone who has
so much success younger?

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Every year? You got to find new obtect You got
to push them. How hard is it as a coach
to do that?

Speaker 6 (21:14):
You know, it's funny because she's not too hard to challenge.
You just got to keep pushing it in front of
her and just say, here's your next goal, here's your
next goal. She always wants more. But the big thing
that we try to do is just always raise the
competition level.

Speaker 4 (21:25):
So the last couple of.

Speaker 6 (21:26):
Years, we've been ranked in the top twenty five nationally
and we just keep trying to find opponents that we're
allowed to play. We're only allowed to play opponents in
border states, one state over so Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa.
We just try to challenge ourselves against the best, you know,
buy different obstacles. This year, we're small, so I'm like, well, man,
you're gonna play the SEC, so let's find some teams
with six three six four girls that you're going to
have to go and drive on the paint against and
see how you do that way. So we just always

(21:48):
try to find the miniature goals within it and just
try to make herself better. And on top of that,
you know, you can always do little things like, hey,
all right, are you shooting percentages? Let's try to get
fifty percent field goal forty percent from three. So there's
all always things that you can do. But this girl
is so competitive that you know, I don't have to
drive it in her. She she wants to do it
as much as anybody else.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
And Connor, I know, I know she toured thirty seven
points Friday night when she went over the five thousand
point mark, something only two girls in Minnesota had ever done.
You came back and played last night. How did did
the going over five thousand points and everything the night before?
Did that impact her? At always time? Was there any
kind of letdown for her at all.

Speaker 6 (22:28):
Last night, Larry, she came back and dropped forty one
last night on an even Yeah, so she it doesn't
matter who you put in front of, this girl is
gonna goun and deliver.

Speaker 4 (22:40):
Wow, that's an incredible total. And then it looks like
Friday night, did everybody in the gym have a sign
that said five thousand for the celebration for her? When
she did get to five thousand?

Speaker 6 (22:53):
Just about I mean, the cool thing about this young lady,
she's got a tremendous impact on our community and actually
the basketball community in Minnesota in general. So we go
to every gym and there's always little girls lined up
to take pictures with her, get autographs from her. She's
so gracious with her time. For an eighteen year old kid,
that for a lot to put on their plate. But
she's been doing it for the last couple of years.
And every game we'd go through, there's camera crews, there's

(23:15):
people taking pictures. You know, this poor girl is she's
an eighteen year old girl. She doesn't get a chance
to just not be in the line life, but she
handles it with so much grace. So that's the coolest
thing of That's the thing I'm most proud of as
a coach is how she handles her business, how she
handles being an inspiration to the next generation. It's really
cool to see. There were siblings that had the signs,
but it was also kids from all over boys, girls.

(23:35):
I mean, she's made a tremendous impact on the basketball
community in Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (23:39):
And coach, I want to say, Larry said that you
have all these five thousand. How many points did she
need for you guys to be preparing? Was it like
five four points? Like she just needed two layups, a
couple of free throws. How many points was she away
before the game started?

Speaker 6 (23:56):
So she was seven points away. So we were playing
a game against our conference rival before and she needed
fifty four to reach five thousand, and she was telling
me like, Coach, I don't know fifty four. I go, well, man,
in the last two times you played this team, you
dropped sixty and fifty one. Your average is about fifty five,
So it's not out of the realm of possibility she
ended up with fifty or she ended up with forty seven.

(24:17):
Just we kind of just ran out of time. I mean,
she was very close to getting it. I get her
for one more three and it just rimmed off. But
seven points away. I was pretty confident she was going
to get that early. But the coolest thing about her,
she started off the game of four a sif like
two to her sister, two to another teammate, like she
she wants to get everyone involved in as much as
it's about her getting that five thousand. I mean, you know,
you don't see it. I mean, she's got a thousand
assists she leads to the state, and she broke that

(24:38):
record last year, so she's she's gonna set an assist
total that's going to be basically impossible to break.

Speaker 4 (24:45):
And she's probably good to death with what's close to
eight hundred steels, so maybe over eight hundreds. Don't have
as you all go as far as normal.

Speaker 6 (24:53):
Oh yeah, she's at seven hundred and eighty two right now,
so she'll break eight hundred steels as well. She's got
over one thousand rebounds. What she's really trying to get
into his blocks for this year, I don't know if
you've seen any highlights, but she's tried to elevate on
defense since he sent a couple into the bleachers. Which
has been fun to watch.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
Uh, and coach I do say, I know from most
of the guys that I played with they have children
that play ball. As always the mom that's usually more
emotional in the games. Cha, Chad ain't no small guy man.
So have you ever had any confrontations with Chad about
you know, maybe a disagreement or anything or whatever?

Speaker 2 (25:29):
Chad says, go.

Speaker 6 (25:31):
No, I mean, these guys have been the best parents
of all time. You know, it was intimidating right away.
I was like, oh my gosh, the former NFL linebacker's
going to send their daughter like the better better keep
my p's and q's in order. But you almost find
they want me older accountable, like they want her to
be coached the same reason they're centered down to Coach Brooks.
They know that he's a great he's a great father,
he's a great coach. He knows exactly how to take

(25:52):
care of his people. But he holds his kids accountable too.
You know, he's not happy with with losing and he
wants to get the best out of him. So, Uh,
they've been nothing but gracious. They are the first cheerleaders
that the first people to send a thank you card
after the season, you won't find a better family, which
is I've just been so blessed that way with them chat.

Speaker 4 (26:09):
And I know, or kind of I know that Madden
has frees from nominated one of the nominees from McDonald's
All America Team. I can't imagine that she will not
be on that team, can you? And will that be
a big big deal to her? Because I mean, I
know she's been k to a Player of the Year
and every saying, and I'm assuming she probably will be
again this year. Will the McDonald's thing be a big

(26:32):
deal to hers? That just a you know, just another
day in the Greenway House.

Speaker 6 (26:35):
So no, I think it's gonna be a very big deal.
So we'll find that out the full list comes out.
Who makes the roster comes out tomorrow, I want to say,
around four o'clock Eastern, So we're looking forward to seeing
that announcement. I would hope she's a shoe in with
all her accolades, haven't represented Team USA, won a gold medal,
you know, all her accolades in high school as well,

(26:55):
but it'd be a really big deal. There's only there's
only nine girls in Minnesota that have ever been nominated
to McDonald's All American Game. She'd be the tenth. It
would be really special. We're really hoping that that's something
that does pan out for her, as well as another
chance to play for USA in the future. There's another
the Nike Hoop Somem's coming up in April, and she's
really excited to go join that representing USA there. So

(27:17):
these are really cool accolades. Mcdonald' All American is the
one that she's grown up dreaming about. You know, she's
always wanted to wear that jersey and be representative of that.
So I know Coach KK got to represent them last
year miss Tyal and Carroll. So hopefully we get another
maybe two Kentucky signed athletes to join the McDonald's game
this year.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
Yeah, she already been named to the Hoop Summit Gamers
that's still to be announced.

Speaker 6 (27:40):
She has been named that one. So they released that rock.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
Also, I'm kind of trying to do some math in
my head and I know a lot of guys even
when I played red shirting with something that's good or
just sit early. My question to you, Coach is Brooks.
The success of this sccess he's had always went through
his point guard. He's always been a coach on the court.
I know Madden's always had success. Is there any preparations?

(28:07):
Is there any mindset from you trying to lead her
to the University of Kentucky knowing that the last two
point guards we had were transfer seniors or upperclassmen, where
Maddens may have to you know, wait her turn or
either cut her teeth a little bit building into that
position because that is such a highly tied position in

(28:28):
this conference for Brooks. Is that something that you guys
have talked about, something that you prepare her for. Is
that's something and I could be off. Maybe she may
be the first four year, three year freshman starter under Brooks.

Speaker 2 (28:39):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (28:41):
Yeah, So, I mean that's something that goes back to
all the way to his time at Virginia Tech. That's
when we first you know, I watched the game watch
Georgia Amore. I was like, hey, Madden, like, let's let's
watch these games together and just see how she plays them.
Like she plays a lot like you. She had a
really similar style. So we got connected with coach Brooks
and I sent an email center symptoms in the Highlights,
and coach rad was one of the first people to risk,
So we got connected that way, and then as soon

(29:02):
as you went to Kentucky, you know, things change. You're
in the SEC. This is the ACC anymore, it's a
little bit higher level. But they have been nothing but
her biggest fans, her biggest supporters. Every day, like I
can text one of them and just say, hey, what's
going on the anything, or can you guys send me
something from your last game that I like to see. So,
I mean, we're pretty avid watchers of the Kentucky team.

(29:23):
So anytime they run a quick set, or like anytime
I see Tony Morgan come off a screen en roll,
I'm like, Okay, what was the read there? What was
she looking for? So like at the LSU game, I
was like, all right, yeah, Clara set the screen on
the wing, but was it Tony shot right away? Or
we're trying to get the ball to Clara and Coach
Brooks send me a really detailed an Now it's it's like, nope,
that was Tony shot from the beginning. So it's been
really cool and they've been really transparent about what they

(29:43):
want from men, and I think, you know, they kind
of recruited the same way and you know, they looked
for Tony because they wanted a one year point guard
so that Matt can come in and cut her teeth
right away. So we're doing everything we can to prepare her.
She knows it's going to be a big step up,
she knows it's going to be a lot of higher intensity.
But she's played against a lot of these girls growing up.
So live McGill the starting point guard at hot or

(30:04):
at Florida. I mean she's played against her most of
her high school career. We're ready for the level of
competition and she's ready as well. So the other next
thing that I keep telling her is like, you don't
have to do it on your own. You still got
Claris Track and all American Center that'll be there riding
with you. You got KK Carroll, you got Asia Boone.
So you got some people coming with you to try
and steady this ship and get them back to get
us back to the Sweet sixteen, gets back to the

(30:25):
Final four, if that's possible. So Coach Brooks, the staff
have been nothing but great. Just help them prepare us
and what else.

Speaker 4 (30:36):
So I thought it was pretty cool when you're talk
about the staff, the coach Riatt actually came to the
game Friday night to be there when Madden went over
five hauts some points.

Speaker 6 (30:46):
Yeah, that shows so much about how much they care.
I mean, they only get so many visits that they're
allowed to do because of the NCAA, So for her
to take the time out to come on up for
that special moment. It wasn't going to be a super
close game. We blew them out, but just shows how
much they care and she got to be there for
that moment. I wish you would have stuck around for
the forty one point game the next day, but they
got to get back for sure.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
And coach I kind of wanted to ask, I know
this is not really a Madden question, but yours a
coach going it's going to be what is going to
be like her sister being without Madden? Or don't I
thought there was two other sisters.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
I thought she had older maybe both their sisters are younger.
But you know you're gonna have her sister coming up.
Are there gonna be big shoes for her to fill?
Or how is that going to be?

Speaker 6 (31:32):
So Madden's the oldest of four and they're all girls.
Beckett is a freshman this year, and Beckett's she's already
doing great. She's averaging twenty points, she's shooting in the
fifty to forty eighty five splits, So I mean she's
a hyper efficient scorer. You know, those are their big
shoes to fill. But essentially, all that's going to happen
is beck It's going to increase her volume and her
efficiency's going to stay the same. So I'm blessed with

(31:54):
some beautiful, beautifully talented green wing girls that can put
the ball in the hole in many different ways. Becket's
got a different game than's Madden. She's a little bit
more finesse, he's a little bit more shift he She's
got great euro steps, she's got an unreal floater in
the middle of the paint. But she shoots the three
ball at like forty five percent right now, and we're
on high volumes. So what Becket's able to do and

(32:15):
what she's gonna be able to accomplish is it's not
going to be the same hot point totals as Madden,
because she's still playing with Madden. We's got getting up
to thirty five a game, but she's gonna have her
own name in the record books too.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
But that is.

Speaker 4 (32:29):
That's saying in college life, thaying I would have for you.
Is here in Kentucky, we think we have suffered the
last week with snow and cold. I just feel like
for you to kind of share what you shared with
peace of other day. But what the temperature or the
wind chill factor was one day recently when you all
went to school.

Speaker 6 (32:49):
Yeah, I mean, you know, it's it's already like a
negative twelve day outside of negative twenty. And I open
up my weather app and it says feels like negative forty.
Sure enough. I look at my email from my my principal,
and I'm like, oh, we still got school today. All right,
I'll see you guys at eight a m. That's a
That's a normal day for us up in Minnesota. You
know we were ready for this. The snow is snow

(33:12):
is just an obstacle. It's not a way to keep
us out of school.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
Wow, well, don't bring anything. She can leave that up there.
Don't bring any of that down here for us. We
can you can get you guys can keep that.

Speaker 6 (33:25):
She's looking forward to getting away from this. So to
hear that you guys had a little bit of snow.
This last couple of weeks has been kind of crazy.

Speaker 1 (33:31):
Well, Coach would like to thanks for joining us this
morning and also preparing Madden to come.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
Be a wow cat.

Speaker 1 (33:37):
I'm looking forward to seeing everything that you've already got
to see a whole lot of.

Speaker 6 (33:43):
No I'm so excited to watch that celebration. You know
she's going to be great. You guys are gonna love her.
Just embrace her for all she is, and she's very
beyond excited to be a wildcover excited for Big Blue Nation.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
You have a good rest of your day. Appreciation, Appreciate
you guys.

Speaker 4 (33:56):
Take care.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
