Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Wonting Sports Talk KM Anthony
White along with Larry Vatt coming to you from Clark's
Main Street Market Studios and beautiful, beautiful downtown Lexington, Kentucky.
We're not proud to be joined by my former teammate,
former National High School Player of the Year, former NFL
Draft pick, former you U K football player, and better

(00:23):
known as the father of our very own Jasper Johnson,
and now currently the athletic director and head football coach
at Woodford County High School. Hopefully I covered everything. Good morning,
Dennis Johnson.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Hey, why, Hey.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
I'm very impressed. Man. You know what I'm saying. I'm
very impressed. Now what's going on?

Speaker 4 (00:44):
Will you give me?

Speaker 1 (00:45):
You give me plenty of materials so you don't be
impressed by me being impressed by all you've accomplished, sir, the.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Best past catching running back to have come out of
college football.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
I said, our prey, Marshall fark. You hear marsh too far.
You hear that, Reggie, but you hear that.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
I said it ain't White, I said it. I do.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Before we get to what we came here for, because
hopefully you'll stick around for a minute, I did. I
was looking at some of the information and I know
Larry vald is close to this stuff that your football
team had some all state players on there. You didn't
fare as well as I expected you. I'm sure you
didn't finish where you would because it wasn't in the
championship game with hoisting the trophy.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
But Justice, uh was Justice player of the year for
you all.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Yeah, he was Jason.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
He was a District five, District five, five eight player
of the year.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Man had a really really good season.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
And so you know Jake Parks was his father from
Harrisburg and the Sun. Uh six six two and a
half two and a five pound quarterback and slang it.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
So he had a great year.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Davion Sturge is another guy who signed with EKU made
our state and we had a lot of our kicker
made team off state, one of the four brothers, and.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
So we had a good year. We just we just
got it.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
We gotta get to a tidalway white, you know, so
we're taking steps to do that.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
We started weightlifting, so uh, the future is brought in
with the county.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Need going over to Boyle County, Larry Vaughton get you
a little path that Boyle County gets on them guys
over there. We need if we put the right guys
with you, I know you can develop them, man, because
Boyle County seems to be be.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
Doing their thing over there.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
I know Larry vaud is a Damnville guy, but Boyle
County seems to be it seems to be rioting.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
I know those guys are boy County hadnocks and la
Fido's good guys.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Man.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
They do they do a good job with the program. Man,
So we we definitely want to get to the level
where they are, you know, being a powerhouse, continued power
house every year. And then, like I said, the ultimate
goal for us, man is we built it, but we
gotta we gotta. We got to solidify and win the
state championship and so uh so that's the goal.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Well, one thing you've done is brought a lot of
attention over there to Woodford County and Court fourteen will
be and verst You guys got it. I did not
know you guys had new digs of you you got
a new stadium.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Yeah, we're a new school, man, So we after Christmas,
we moving to our new school. Uh right, only on
the bypass Schoolhouse road right to's our middle school. Man,
So you know the school the kids have only been
since we've been there for snow. We've been in like
four or five days. But it is a phenomenal facility. Man.
Shout out to our superintendent Danny Atkins and our school board. Man.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
They did a great job. And we need a new school.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Our school was sixty something years old, man, and so
we definite needed.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
So it's gonna be exciting.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
I know a lot of people, some of the coaches
I talked to last year love at the old environment
of the older gym, but uh, I think people will
be pleasantly surprised with our with our new gym and
our new facilities.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Man's it's it's that of.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
The art and went to court fourteen Classic coming up
next week. What are some things and the amenities of
the gym. We're gonna get to the players. But amenities
of the gym is there? I know it stated are
and I know you, I know you whole back. Derek
ain't have nothing to do with the designing because I
know it would have been some silly it had been

(04:05):
like that.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Now it's been crazy. But now it's like I said,
nice gym. We're still we're still waiting to get a
few things in. But we uh we got you know,
the the nuts and boats of the gym in there, man,
and it fits us.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
We had a uh we had we had we hosted.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Jacket Fast Friday and it was a packed towns and
everybody got to see the gym for the first time.
And so you were just coming through those double doors, man,
and uh and get a chance to see our our
amazing new facility and new gym.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
When you get inside of the gym with the court
fourteen class and what do we look? Everybody knows are
the well Sunday Morning sports talk nephew Jeff Jasper Johnson
to be there. But uh so, what are some other
things that the people are looking forward to see when
they when they come to uh Woodford County High School.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Well, we'll have three games going on and uh so
just just you know some of the talent, man you got,
you know, you got our mellow boom he'll pull playing
the first game, it was a Wes Kentucky say, Who's
I'm a freak athlete. Is gonna make Wells Kentucky a
great basketball player? Jayde and Johnson from Trinity. I think
he scored thirty two the other night. So in the
second game, he'll match up against Rhych Davison of North Laura,

(05:11):
who's a Recepper's cousin.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Uh. And then in the final game, you know you
got Uh, You'll.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Get Jasper and Taylor Kenny, and Taylor's a he's a
special athlete. I know a lot of Kentucky fans want
to see him and we want to try to get
him Sam. So it should be it should be three
three great games come out. It's gonna be a great environment.
You know, we always have the DJ, We'll have a
nice some nice food and and a lot of college
coaches will be there, and we'll have a lot of
Needy and Slam Magazine and all those games will be there.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
So it should be a fun event.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
I told I was on a conference call with with
Nate and some of the gaps and say, we gotta
make it. People expect it to be bigger every year.
So we're gonna give the people what they come to see.
And the one of the reasons I want to do
this h a white if so these young kids can
see what it takes to get to this level. You know,
I think sometimes we kind of stay in our box

(06:00):
and you don't know what's outside of Kentucky or elections,
and so being able to get.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Some of these guys in who've played on a on a.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
National level, I think it's good for our young kids
across the state of Kentucky to see what it takes
or what it looks like to be able to Everybody
wants to be a college athlete, and so, you know,
just just getting a chance to see that, I think
it's good for all these kids.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
And that's true because last year Malachy Moraino, his brother
was there, Man, Who's who? And I told Larry Vaut
before you came over, I don't know if you know
what I got. I got like social anxiety, Like I
don't like being in crowds. So but when we were there,
I was seeing who's who? All the UK players, Cali Perry,
uh Hubert Huby was there, Like yeah, all those people there.

(06:49):
So you're saying for it to get bigger. Man, I
seen cameras everywhere. You're saying for it to get bigger.
Is John Is John Caliberry going to be there?

Speaker 2 (06:59):
So I think I think the recruiting tailing and so
it'll probably depend on the outcome of the game. But
I think, uh, I think the UK guy has to
be there in a lot of players, and so we
hope to we hope to get cal in the building.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Uh and so uh you know some guys, I think
he has his out on.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
So what now, man, We want to like I said,
bigger and better man, we like to put on a
uh you know, we want to put on a class event.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
But I think it's good. I think people were surprised
last year.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
With all the college with all the college coaches that
were in the building, and uh and so uh it
should be a great opportunity and and and I really.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
Appreciate the coaching lesson that very interactive.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
I had so many college de texts of like uh
Hubret Davis took a picture of my son, or Sean
May was there, or uh uh the coach from Dennis
Gates from Missouri was there. So all those guys come
and just they're normal people man, just doing their job.
But it's good in a small community like Woolford County,
man for to put us on the spotlight and just
in it. Like I said, we do it for our

(07:53):
community and the kids. So I think it should be
a great environment again this year.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
And I was looking at the tickets.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
I don't know if you know this or not, man,
And I don't know if these people are trying to
hoodwink y'all, But on simpletics dot com, them bad boys
are going anywhere from twenty two dollars to two hundred
and eleven dollars, Dennis Johnson, And you're trying to put
on for the city, and you want to charge these
people two hundred and eleven dollars.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
So those tickets are like the little VIP you get
special things to sit on the floor with all the
coaches and stuff. A general mission ticket is twenty dollars,
but you get three games right most times?

Speaker 4 (08:32):
Oh yeah, yo, the.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
General mission ticket. I think our knew gym suits about
twenty two hundred. We've sold a ton of tickets, so
get your tickets now. But they're twenty twenty dollars, and
then they have a two dollars and thirteen cent service fee,
which is we have nothing to do with that.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
It's just the simple Tics platform and use.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
But no anybody wants to get a VIP seat and
sit down there with all the coaches and some other
guys we got coming in.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
Those are the expensive tickets.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
So we'll have the area roped up like we did
last year, a little red carpet to get you to
your seat.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
And so, uh, you know, we try, we try. We
try to service every person.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
Now, we're not gonna charge two hundred and eleven dollars
for a regular seat, but but there's not a bad
seat in the have and so it should be a
funny vent want everybody to get there early, stay for
all three games because in every game you're gonna see uh,
some Division one athletes and some and some and some
great basketball.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
I will say that you gotta I guess Jasper is
probably because we all love Jasper and I know you
love him.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
You have to.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Apparently you ain't gonna be able, you't gonna be able
to sleep at home at night. But but your your
basketball coach is uh is an All American of his own,
drying brown out of Bryan Station.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
Uh, how how's how's he been doing?

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Now? Jama's been doing. We we took it.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
We've taken a few tough losses this year, but uh,
we had a few guys down sick on Friday, but
you know, the one thing I love about coach Brown
is he he's he loves kids. He's in the gym
all the time, and one we need to get going,
he always has us going.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
So uh so, you know.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
We're just trying to figure out some things right now
and uh uh, but the guys are playing hard and
and Jeron's done a great job and so we'll we'll
we'll get better and when it matters, what will definitely
be we'll be in the mix in the eighth region.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
So we're excited about that. Then is we're gonna Denis.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Hey, Larry, let me let me head the break and
then we're gonna yeah, hopefully you're gonna stay with us, right.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Dennis, I got you, Yes, sir, Larry, you.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Hold your break question for the other side of break.
We'll be back after this. You're listening to Stockyards Bank
Sunday morning sports Talk on news radio six thirty WLP.

Speaker 4 (10:35):
This is the home of the Wildcats, six thirty w
l a p.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Welcome back Stockyards Banks, Honey on the sports Talk, I'm
Anthony White along with Larry Vaulton, still joined by Woodford
County Athletic Director Dennis Johnson. Remember that if you've never
had a trusted partner where you got yourself a trusted
partner with Stockyards Bank, They've been your trusted partner since
nineteen oh four. So head on over to syb dot
com for all your banking and financial needs. Uh, mister Johnson,

(11:02):
I think we want to talk about the Court fourteen Classic,
which we've talked about, and there's a VIP package they
can purchase for two hundred and some bucks. Larry Vaught
was having a question before he went to break. Sorry,
mister Vault, the great mister Vaught, I'm sorry for cutting
you off.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
You can continue with your question.

Speaker 5 (11:20):
Okay, let's skip down to while we've got Dennis on here,
let's talk about let's talk about Jasper in the kind
of year that he's having, Dennis. And also one other thing.
Did you notice that Taylor Kenny what he got his
mother for Christmas?

Speaker 4 (11:36):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (11:36):
I did?

Speaker 2 (11:37):
I saw that? Man, he bought he bought a brand
new grind Wagon. There, I said, he he started early.
That That's all right, that's a that's a you know,
that's one of the that's one of the pluses of
kind of going to a place to go tee. Those
guys are already starting to make a little money, and
so that's that's a great for him and his family
to have the heart to do that as a as
a sixteen seventeen year old kid.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
So now that was that was pretty cool for Christmas.
But now Jasper's doing well.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
Man.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
Like I said, his first year ote having a chance.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
You know, I've always wanted to put him in some
different situations, and so he was at LINK last year
and Night's at OT getting a chance to work on
a lot of different things his body and just on
the ball, off the ball, work a lot of right
hand stuff. And so this has really been a good
year for him to just to work. And so he
gets the chance being in that marketing in Atlanta to
work with got a few turns he works with, so

(12:26):
was there to work out with a few pros a
few days a week. So now it's been a really
really good year. I think it's been a you know,
it's been a productive year for Jasper, you know what
I'm saying. And so I think, you know, you can
worry about playing and stuff, but I think at some
point you got to be able to work on your game.
And Ots afford him the opportunity to go down there
and have a chance to work on this game.

Speaker 5 (12:47):
Corey talked to me a lot about he's also work
found just kind of making Jasper more outgoing with his
personality now, which isn't jasper natural instinct. Have you seen
a different to how Jasper is just personality wise because
of what they're doing with the.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
Absolutely And I think my mother, who you know, says
it best. Man. You know, he's like when I talk
to him, just more, he's more Jeffer. And that's kind
of how it was until I got kind of this profession. Ainy,
why you remember me?

Speaker 2 (13:14):
I never forget that I was kind of always I
wasn't like my brother. I was kind of always to myself.
I was just kind of focused on what I.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Want to do.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
When I stepped foot on the UK's Campusman, I wasn't
a raw rock guy and.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
Out there and people were like, people.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Just think I was kind of stuck up because my
brother was so outgoing, he was in the fraternity and stuff,
and so Jash was kind of has My personality just
kind of stays to itself. But in his position, you know,
Corey is really trying to teach him. You've got to
be a lot more vocal and so and I think
he's taking stress to do that. I think he still
has a way to go, but he's more of an
action speaks out than worried about I told him, man,

(13:47):
you know, you got to be able to put people
in position. And if you've been able to watch some games,
you sure you've been able to see him to be
able to do that.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
And so I think that's one of the great things.
You know, people see.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
Points per game and all that, but there's so many
more intellgible things you have to learn if you're going
to be a productive of playing at any level, especially
going to to the college rank. So you know, I
think he's worked on, you know, being more vocal, uh,
being able to put people in position, right, trying to
trying to find his voice on this team. I think
that that that's been really really good. And corys Harding,

(14:17):
mccountab and the whole coach of.

Speaker 5 (14:18):
Staff he work on. Has he got anything specifically that
Mark Pope and his staff have really instructed our ice
Corey to really pushed jasper On to get better for
next season?

Speaker 3 (14:30):
Well, I know, I know, I don't know that conversation.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
But when Corey and not talking, he said, you know,
out of all the kids at OT, he talks to
coach Pope and his staff more than any any any
any college staff.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
And I think some of the sets Jasper's team runs
are some UK sets.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
And uh, I know Corey told me a few weeks
ago he said, you know, when UK's playing, they're either
in the same room or if jaffed at the home
and Cory's home, they're talking about things they need to do.
And so, you know, I think I think the thing
about Jasper is, you know, how do you affect the
game when you're not scoring the ball? You know what
I'm saying. So I think defensively, uh, it's one of
the points of interests that he's working on. He's got

(15:06):
to get better. But I think off the ball he's
getting a lot better. I think his a sister up
this year.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
And then he's rebound the ball. I really challenged Hi
McCoy says, you got to rebound the ball. You know,
he's not a super big body working on his body's
about one point eighty right now. But I said, man,
at sixty five six four six fist, you got to
get in there and throw your body and try to
rebound the ball. And so he's, uh, he's really kind
of stepped up that area and just just kind of
feeling up the feeling up the stat sheet, not just
for scoring, right, And I think I think he's trying

(15:32):
to do less scoring this year and trying to do
more of the other stuff. And so which is which is,
which is? Which is a good part of the game
because you want to be a versatile player. They talk
about position as basketball, and so if you can fill
up all those steps, I think it gives you a
better chance to be successful at the next level.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
I know Larry's talking about, you know, working on this,
outgoing this and you you absolutely right, you not Schylar
uh jash Brup then of y'all really like I figure
you sent him in a room with Sen, him in
a room with Eric for about a week a couple hours. Man,
he can work that off of them. But last time
I talked to Schylar, I thought he seemed like he

(16:09):
was trying to get into being maybe a manager for
Jasper or you know, manage his some his moving young
you know, is that something he's still doing And I
know he's not going to be the one to teach
Jasper to be more outgoing, because he really ain't. But
I love to see when family members do business with
each other or you know, he's looking out for his
younger brothers. Is that something that Skyler's still working on.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Absolutely so. So Scott's down a living with him. And
so Scott finished up school.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
He got us bid as marketing, and so one of
his professors told Scott, I said, man, because Scotty went
when he went to Westucia State and he went pre
mad and so he did bid his marketing. So one
of his pervis told Scott, he said, man, while you're
down there, let's go on and finish up. So he's
gonna have his biology. He'll be able to get his
biology pre mad stuff and by May. So he goes
back once a month to West Virginia State.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
But while he's down.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
There doing some internships, Chevin very instrumental help with him.
He's kind of out in the landscaping Atlanta, and so
he's made a lot of connections. He's doing some stuff
with Ote and so yes Scolars is his manager. You know,
they have a great relationship. Skyler really understands Jasper he
kind of texts him to his nil stuff down there.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
I don't think Busy has to go through Sole.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
So if they work well together and it's that, it's
been good for our family too, because you know, Jasper
has somebody down.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
There that kind of can take care of him.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
And uh, I guess the last really thing for me
is the Venish coming up. Last time we saw Jasper
went nuclear man was nine to ten, nine of eleven whatever.
Just is that something he did because he came home.
Like I said, I see highlights of him knocking him down,
but that was that was something, don't I don't think

(17:47):
he's done on a regular basis, not that he can't.
Are we gonna see Are we gonna see one of
those performances next Sunday?

Speaker 3 (17:54):
Well, he's put he put the pressure on the shelf, man,
and I think that was, you know, just for my father,
that was just kind of like.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
An angel, you know, he came down and uh, that
performance was kind of legendary for for Jasper. But we
just I told him, man, you you set the bar
really high. Man, she gotta go play on. All these
fans want to see you play. But I just told him,
Jasper's never really get fries on the candiates. He kind
of goes at his own pace and so he lets
the less the game come to him. But I just
you know, the one thing is that just play hard

(18:22):
the self is be a good team player.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
But he but ay why he's.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
Definitely set the mark and people are gonna expect to
see the same performances last year. So we hope, we
hope it happens. Blake just wanted to go out there
and uh and play hard and and help his team
get it.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
Doub Larry, I don't know if you had anything else.
That's really all I got for dinner.

Speaker 5 (18:40):
Now, Denner's just please make sure Anthony could get in
the game. Okay, he probably gonna get his credential request,
then can you take care of handling after.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
Him and think, hey, hey, if anybody gonna get it out,
make sure Anthony White gets him.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
And I'm not and I don't work for ks R.
You had me under KSR. Is why they didn't let
me in last time I worked for Sunday Morning Sports Talk.

Speaker 3 (19:01):
I got you.

Speaker 4 (19:01):
I make sure you're taking I appreciate you, my man,
all right, thank you for having me. All right, thank you.
We will be back after this year.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
Listen to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on news
radio six thirty WLAP. This is the home of the Wildcats.
Six thirty w LAP. Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning
Sports Talk. I'm Anthony White along with Larry Vaught. This
hour Sunday Morning Sports Talk has been brought to you
by Country Boy Brewing thanks to uh Dennis Johnson, the

(19:34):
athletic director at Woodford County High School. Larry Vaught next
to the big dog Vince Dennis our neck and neck
as far as my favorite people to interview and have
conversation with.

Speaker 5 (19:51):
No argument here, Buddy, absolutely not.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
And uh Bo Robinson.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
I know you usually sit back there quietly doing some thing,
but I'm sure you got some some things on your well,
your heart on your chest you want to discuss.

Speaker 6 (20:07):
Well, thank you, Anthony White. We just want to take
a little time to remember a few icons and champions
throughout the Kentucky sports world and beyond that we've lost
over the last week. And first of all, Larry and
I wanted to start off with coach Philip Haywood of Belfrey,
all time winning at high school football coach in the state.
Of Kentucky and an incredible loss for not only high

(20:29):
school athletics throughout the state, not only for the Bellfry community,
but throughout the state as a whole. Just a great
pillar of the community in Belfrey and in eastern Kentucky.

Speaker 5 (20:40):
Larry, Yeah, I won four hundred and ninety one games
in a fifty year coaching career, the last forty one,
I believe it was at Belfrey for one of their
seven or eight state championships. Just like you say, a
father figure to so many, I'm entored to so many.
Just a terrific, terrific guy. And I love the fact,
maybe he didn't always do, but every time I ever

(21:01):
saw him whore cotin Town the sideline, something he learned
when he started coaching with Roy Walton at Tates Creek
years ago and just continued to do that. And I
love the suggestion that David Buchanan, the head coach at
Anderson County, has made that maybe the first game of
the twenty twenty five high school season. Every coach, a
head coach across Kentucky, I ought to wear a cotin

(21:22):
Town on the sideline to honor the man who won
four hundred and ninety one games and just helped so
many people over the last fifty years.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
Coach Larry he was so he I'm assuming he coached
David Johnson, David Jones, Jones that played the UK number six.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
Yes, okay, sorry, both go ahead.

Speaker 6 (21:45):
Now that's okay. Really an unbelievable scene across the state
last night where I believe Belfry High School had requested
scoreboards across the state be let up in honor of
coach A Wood, and Kenny Rights tweeted out a picture
of the school board at EKU that had the score
fifteen to nothing to represent fifty years of coaching for

(22:06):
Philip Haywood and just a great tribute across the state
of Kentucky.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
Yeah, it really was.

Speaker 5 (22:12):
The first person that I saw suggested was so Claiy Clevenger,
the head football coach at Somerset. Okay, I think others
just jumped right on board, which is something they have
done for a few other coaches, and I think people
that have passed away to kind of I don't know.
I think it's really a nice thing to do. But
I know the light ron on the fields here and
all across the site, there's well they don't how many
different places did that, but it is a wonderful tribute.

(22:34):
They put the score or fifty to nothing and they
put the time on there forty nine minutes, ten seconds
to represent his four hundred ninety one wins.

Speaker 6 (22:44):
Great tribute and our thoughts and prayers condolences to the family,
players and everybody who was associated with coach Philip Haywood.
We also lost another icon in the state of Kentucky
and really worldwide in the horse racing industry. He had
Bassett the Third who was the former president of the
Sales Association, chairman of the board trustees at Keenland. Unbelievable

(23:08):
ambassador for Keenland and for horse racing, who really poured
his heart and soul into the thoroughbred racing industry and
put Keenland on the map as a worldwide destination for
a horse racing enthusiast.

Speaker 5 (23:22):
Yeah, just one of those people, just legendary. I didn't
have a lot of contact with him, but anytime I
ever did, it was just always one of those people.
I felt like I should call him mister Bassett. I
don't think I ever called him to it. I just
called him mister Bassett. But it's just the esteem that
he had. He just had that kind of status to him.
But he was such a marvelous man. I always seemed
to be smiling. I'm sure he's been a really good

(23:43):
businessman to have done what he was able to do,
But anytime you saw him out in the bat he
seemed to always just be smiling. But the success he
had with what he did at Keenland, it's just remarkable.

Speaker 4 (23:52):
Here.

Speaker 6 (23:53):
Responsible for the massive overhaul of Keenland, including the grand stand,
the clubhouse, the new bar. He was an advocate for
the Kingland Library and some of the words that I
read associated with Ted Bassett, the third mister Bassett was
an unbelievable leader, a disciplined leader, and a visionary and
an ambassador. And if you read mister Bassett's biography, and

(24:15):
not only was it horse racing, but he was a
former marine. He joined the Kentucky State Police and had
a huge influence on the culture of the Kentucky State Police.
And unbelievable career that mister Bassett led.

Speaker 5 (24:29):
Yeah, just one of those men, and just just a
gentleman to one of those another guy always very very
well dressed too.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
Both and we.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
Appreciate that, and we're going to get you over to
Darren Hendrick for the UK Arkansas game that starts at
twelve o'clock. Thanks to Bo Robinson, thanks to Jack Pilgrim,
thanks to Dennis Johnson, Larry Vaudam, Anthony White, and this
