Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm Anthony
White along with Larry Vaught and Bo Robinson, coming to
you from Clark's Main Street Market studios in downtown Lexington, Kentucky.
Now proud to be joined by our volleyball coach, Craig Skinner.
Good morning, Coach Skinner?
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Good morning guys. How are you.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
We are doing pretty good. We are doing pretty It's
been a lot went on this since December, since the
end of the year to now what is going on
in the world of Craig Skinner.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Well, it's my wife, Megan's birthday today, she turned fifty three,
so we had a good birthday breakfast, and you know,
a couple roster changes and scheduling for the spring and
so just just starting to paint the twenty twenty six
volleyball picture as we speak.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
I will I've been kind of concerned because I've been
a huge fan, you know, this show has always been
a huge fan of you and the young ladies. And
last time we made it this far, we were at
the top of uh at the top of the championship
with the trophy. What was what is the difference this time?
Are you just back to business. Like you said, there's
roster turnover already, so you know there's no sleep for
(01:16):
the weary.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
You right back to work. But did you have did
you take.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
A moment to contrast the two opportunities you've had to
go to the championship?
Speaker 2 (01:26):
I don't. I don't know if I look too much
in the rear view mirror. And and you know, obviously,
you know, history can kind of dictate, you know, how
you go about things and styles of play, and you
know what worked and what didn't. But in terms of
you know, evaluating everything and stuff like that and where
(01:46):
we're headed forward, I don't spend a whole lot of
time doing that. But I think at the same time
you do kind of learn from experiences and wisdom and
maybe innately make decisions that you know you've probably you know,
learned things in the past. And but you know, I
don't spend a whole lot of time, you know, going
through that. I guess it's just more like looking forward
(02:08):
and you know, what do we have, what's on the roster,
what do we need, How can we be different? How
do we utilize the strengths of this particular team going forward?
In twenty six and you know, I kind of look
at it that way.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Have you had an opportunity to take a break at all?
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yeah, I mean we've had a few days. We had,
you know, probably ten days that you know that there
we're at home and not doing a whole lot, and
you know, so it's kind of been nice to get
some projects done, you know, around the house. I changed
out actually a couple socket plug sockets yesterday in my
bedroom that weren't working too well. You know. I mean
that that to me is is therapy, I guess.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
And if you could figure out the weather last week
it was almost seventy degrees, what was Wednesday or Thursday?
You had plenty of you have plenty of time to
get out in the yard a little bit last week
before the snow today.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
This is true. I actually to video of the snow
this morning and said my daughters who were down in
you know, Tennessee and Alabama.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
So well, First of all, Craig, I thought your wife
was way way younger than fifty three, So tell her
happy birthday today.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
I will.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
A lot of things want to ask you about. First
of all, you you had your press conference thursday to
I think it was one thing I'm still trying to
kind of wrap my self around. And Anthony White being
that former all the SEC football boy, he's a lot
tougher than me and everything. But explained again when when
you said that, I knew that the word came out
about that Brooklyn that was playing with a torn moniscus
(03:44):
that was going to have to have surgery. That came
out right for the final four, and then you just
kind of dropped it in there. Yes, she had it
all season, So how how much did that really bother
her all? How much was that pain management? Was she
at eighty percent in the season? Five percent? I've never
seen anybody that kind of was able to handle that
(04:05):
for a whole season like what she apparently did.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Well, I mean, I think, first of all, there's a
there's a wide range of meniscus, you know, injuries. And
I actually tore my meniscus and had to have it
completely repaired, and I was on the shelf for you know,
three months, you know, So there's that type of And
I don't know why I'm talking about myself here, I
tore meniscus in college and I had a little bucket
(04:29):
there and they cut it out and and you know,
I was playing back in my season in a week.
So there's a wide range of things. She was in
some good, you know, amount of pain in September, and
you know, luckily, you know, the doctors can manage that,
you know, and so she was really feeling good for
about six or seven weeks and and started to bother
(04:51):
again at you know, towards the end. But I mean
it's it's you can play through, you know, depending on
the type of it injury it is. And but you know,
definitely through caution to win, we weren't able to go,
you know, one hundred miles an hour in practice all
the time. And you know she's a tough kid and
a willingness willing has a willingness to do whatever she
(05:12):
can to help her team and her teammates well.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
But she's certainly considering. I mean when when you look
at it, if you just look at her statistics, I mean,
you'd had no idea she was hurt, or at least
I didn't.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
There's no doubt. I mean, what does she you know,
top three or four in the league and points per
set and you know, great serve receiver and defense. You know,
you're on your knees and doing a lot of things
when her playing defense back there, and she a big
reason we beat Wisconsin was because of her defense in
the semi finals. And and you know, so you know
she's I think adrenaline takes over sometimes and you know,
(05:49):
but she'll be motivated. I'm sure to get back to,
you know, full strength.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Hey, Craig, Craig, the monster of a schedule you you had.
I mean, you guys had a lot of sweeps this year,
so you didn't have to go five sets a lot
of times. But just because of the magnitude of the
games you play or matches you had to, did that
help Brooklyn? Do you because of you know, she had
to give her best because guys played anybody in the
top ten, you guys were playing them. Do you think
(06:16):
that had any effect on it, or that it was
going to be that way no matter who you know?
Speaker 2 (06:20):
I don't. I don't. I don't think so. I mean,
I think that you know who you're playing, doesn't You're
still taking a penalty and you're still jumping, landing, you're
still making moves to go into the ground. I mean,
you're still training, you're still practicing. I mean, I think
it's not necessarily who we played, you know, made the difference.
But you know, we certainly like a rigorous schedule and
next year will be no different.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
And who uh well, I need to know Larry Vaut
probably already knows because he studies volleyball like I studied football.
But I had him mcgrom last year look forward to Yeah, Eve,
I was looking for Brooklyn this year because I didn't
know a lot about EVA because I only watched the UK.
I don't watch nationally. But we got EVA this year.
What you got up your sleeve next year for us?
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Well, I mean we only did only lose one senior.
We had three players transfer out, which you know in
the portal, which Brooke Baltimore, Jordan Daily and Navis Sarafa
and so you know, happy for them to try and
get you know, another chance to get on the floor
and play. And we added a transfer maybe adding one more,
uh you know, and uh, you know guy named a
(07:23):
girl named Morgan Guardy from played at Notre Dames. She's
from Northern Indiana and was an All ACC player and
average almost five points a set last year, so you know,
and then we got our you know mainstays back and
Lizzie Carr and Asia tick Pen and Molly Tuzzo and
Brooklyn and Mollie Breswitz, and you know, a whole slew
(07:44):
of Kennedy Washington and Hannah Benjamin, Georgia Watson get their
chance to spring to kind of show what they can do.
So definitely have some tools in the toolbox. Got to
figure out which ones they use at the right time.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
Craig, when you had a player like Morgan or you
added like and Lizzy last year, is that strictly your
instincts and your coaches your assistance on when you're looking
at and adding the chemistry. Do you returning players have
any saying that, because it just seems like your team
chemistry stays so good every year. How do you kind
(08:17):
of evaluate all that when you're adding a player or players.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
That's a good question, Larry. I think it's instinct. I
think it's experienced. I think it's your trusting your staff
and and you know, watching them play and you know
I you know, for example, with her, I played against
her club coach in college, and actually her club coach
is a guy named Lloyd Ball that played in four Olympics,
(08:44):
won a gold medal in two thousand and eight as
a starting center for the men's USA national team. And
he and I know I have known each other since college,
and so you know, I trust his you know, instincts
and what he's saying about people. And he knows me
and knows our program and what type of play years
work well with with me and what we're doing. I mean,
programs like this aren't for everybody. I mean, we're trying
(09:04):
to be really good. So it's consuming, and you know,
he knows that that's what she's want she wants, and
so you put a lot of faith in your people
and and then people that you know around the volleyball world,
and Weiler.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
Say, and then you've got five freshmen coming in this year, Craig,
could you just kind of I don't think we've had
a change to even have you on since you signed
them or anything. Could you just talk a little bit
about them? And I know you said at least two
of them will be on campus in January.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Yeah. Yeah. Bellamy Abuse from Idaho the Gatoray Player of
the Year in Idaho under Armor all Americans. She's an
outside hit her, you know, very explosive athletic, great competitor.
Sidney Burley is a liberro from Minnesota, Minneapolis area. She
was an under armor All American as well. Just a
really good athletic libero. And we have a six four six',
(09:59):
five didn't hit, Her bria Bray, out you, know from
The maryland, area and she's a huge. Jumper touches like ten,
ten garyld And Grayson, sailors who's a plays in one
of the best clubs in the country IN a five In.
Atlanta she's a six three middle and then a. Setter Caroline,
(10:20):
preyota she plays defensive, specialist also plays in the same
played in the same club As cassie. O'Brien, so you,
know just a really good group of people that fits
needs that we have in the. Roster and we'll actually
right now we've got a pretty big big roster at
sixteen and maybe adding one. More so last year we
had fourteen and obviously managing people and playing time and
(10:41):
roles is super important and definitely will be for.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Us this, year which which two of those will be on?
Campus and did all five of them come to one
of your camps at sometime growing?
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Up, yeah all of them been to. Camp And i've
done some camps and seen some. Kids But burley From
Minneapol plus is already on, campus and so Is Bellamy
views From. Idaho she's on. Campus they just got here last.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Week And, craig you have A i, KNOW i named
a couple of people and even doesn't seem like a
allowed controlling person or not, controlling but you, know like
the leadership type. Person but we did talk To asia
Thing ben and she is full of.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
Energy do you? Guys?
Speaker 1 (11:22):
Uh you you set like a captain or someone the
players look to when times go hard or on their
off the, court or you are there as a group
of girls who just mold each other and just support each.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Other, NO i, MEAN i just like any sports team
guy curls. ANYTHING i, mean you have leadership, emerged and
leadership comes in a lot of different. Ways and you,
know you, know your actions are probably the biggest easiest
way to. Lead but you, know some people lead vocally
and some people overdo it. TOO i MEAN i think
(11:53):
that you, know there's there's some leaders that know the
right time to, interject or some leaders that just show
everybody how to do. Things and you, Know Molly tuzzo
was literally hardly spoke when she first got, here and
she she was one of the biggest voices in the
huddle when we Beat texas in The tech in THE
Sec championship, game and you know she's you, know just not,
(12:15):
screaming but you, know willing her team with her voice
to take it up the notes and and so it's it's,
just you, know it's like all the teams you've been,
on you see things, emerge you see people show it
in different, ways and you need to you, KNOW i
always kind of, joke but Not i'm. Serious so like
leadership has no, age leadership has no, age it has no.
Class it is leadership is. Leadership and however you show,
(12:37):
that bring let's bring.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
It, Craig you've coached a lot of terrific. Players just,
curious just from a pure athleticism, standpoint how Does Molly
tezzo stack up with players you?
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Had, well she might be the best athlete we've ever
had in any. Position you, know she's, fast she, jumps
she's got great, reflexes great eye hand. Coordination you, KNOW
i mean she's five to seven and you know can
touch over ten. FEET i, mean how many five to
seven athletes can you, know it's like Spud, web you,
(13:12):
know you, know she just flies and but you, know
we've never had a libero that can go out and
touch the, rim and she can do. That SO I
i'd be hard pressed to find a better athlete in
her position that we've. Had AND i, Say i've said,
it you, know since she's been, here she's the best
athlete in the libero position in the.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
Country AND i don't know That i've ever seen a
player that you've had kind of come. In AND i
don't know if shy is the right word to use For,
molly But I'VE i told her ONCE i was sometimes
pray she was going to cry to her interviews when
you talk to her as a, freshman she just didn't like.
It and now she's emerged so much in this as
(13:50):
what she, has how kind of rewarding is head to
a coach just to kind of watch her grow up
off the, court and LIKE i, say with that leadership
style that she now, Has.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Yeah, larry what you described right there is probably the
biggest motivator for me as a. COACH i, MEAN i
never got into coaching Because i've got to, win or you,
KNOW i got into coaching BECAUSE i love seeing people
develop and evolve and do something never done. Before And.
Molly you, KNOW i remember when she came to, visit you,
know as we were talking to her with her, dad
AND i think that her, dad you, know said probably
(14:23):
eighty percent of the words it came from Either molly
Or Steve tas on that. Visit and you, KNOW i
made her talk on the visit at different, times but you,
KNOW i would joke with her and and you, KNOW
i think there's probably times her freshman YEAR i just
stopped the whole Private hey, wait, guys did you just hear?
That did you just hear? That and knowing What molly,
do did you hear? That you, know and she would
(14:45):
just look at me glaar at, me AND i just
kind of smirk and move. On it's, like you, Know
i'm just going to keep calling you out until until
it comes naturally and credit her for you, know really buying.
In and now she's just a, confident you, know soldiers,
back you, know walking through a, room no, problem talk to.
Anybody so it's it's really cool to see that.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
Evolve AND i guess my last thing on that note
Is i'm ready to have it back on if you
turn her. Loose One sunday, Afternoon sunday early. MORNING i
GUESS i should, Say, Ben i'm looking to have it back.
ON i enjoyed having both Of molly's.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
On oh, absolutely they'll they'll ham it up with you
for for as long as you. Want you, better you
better extend the show for another half.
Speaker 5 (15:22):
Hour if you don't do, That, Yeah, Greig how much
does it help when you have personalities Like Molly brett
so it's In Trinity war two that are not starters
but are such dynamic personalities on your.
Speaker 4 (15:37):
Team how much does that? Help an add because they
are both as outgoing team But i've ever been around.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Well it adds to you, know the the way you
play the. Game but it also adds to you, know
your pleasure and enthusiasm to to want to be around.
PEOPLE i, mean people that you. Got it's like pulling
teeth to get into talk and that's not, fun you.
KNOW i, mean and those guys you know are, happy
they'll talk to anyone, there you, know just Because i'm
the head coach that they're not afraid to come in
(16:04):
and talk and have a conversation and they'll do it with.
Anybody and so that just adds to the way you
play the. Game it adds to your. Chemistry it adds
to you, know the culture of the, team and you
know it's it's.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
Huge, well, coach we appreciate you for joining us this.
MORNING i know you're getting back to, work getting to reload.
Together i'm excited for it to see.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
That, Absolutely i'm looking forward to it, too and look
forward to coming back on the show later in the
spring or summertime getting ready for the.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
Season all, right, ABSOLUTELY i appreciate, You.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Craig all, right, guys take.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
CARE i have a great, day have a Good we
will be back after.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
This you are listening To Stockyards Bank sunday one Sports
Talk News radio six THIRTY. Wlap this is the home
of The, wildcats six thirty W. Lap welcome Back Stockyards
Bank Sunday morne Is Sports talk On Anthony white.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
Along With Larry vaught And Bo.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
Robinson thanks to Coach Craig, SKINNER uk volleyball head coach
for joining, us give us a little update on what's
coming up next. Year and you, know so SHOULD i
show a little praise for what happened this? Year Larry,
Vaught i'm a little Bit i'm a little bit perturbed
with you because you made this big deal about meniscus
(17:19):
and let me tell, you let me try to explain
it To we only got two, minutes so just sit.
Back i'm gonna try to explain this to. You SO
i tore my moniscus in middle school and basically AND
i never got it fixed until MY nfl career was.
Over like it was torn the whole. Time so what
happens is is the cushion in between your knee where your,
(17:40):
knee so it's like a little like an air, cushion
like and if it gets, torn and that's What craig
was talking, about, like it's just a tear in. There
so when that tear in the cushion is not laying.
Flat long as it's laying, flat you should be pretty.
Good but somehow if it gets like wrinkled up or
jammed up for whatever, reason it is a extremely sharp.
(18:00):
Pain like it is extremely but it may eventually it
probably laid back down flat and it won't hurt, you
it won't be as. Bad SO i DON'T i never
really got inflamed or, anything BUT i knew when it
was out of place that it would. Sting it would
like if you just come down off of jumping or
cutting on it and it's it would it'll hurt for a,
(18:22):
second but if you got to have high pain, threshold
you can get over. It SO i remember getting AN
x ray WHEN i was in high school or high,
school but it happened in middle. School WHEN i came
back FROM Nfl, europe they do a full by the
exam BECAUSE i got my knee hurt IN Nfl, europe
and they did AN mri and, said you got a
torm inniscus. SON i, SAID i, know it's been torn
(18:43):
since sixth, grade and they, said, well we got to fix.
It SO i got to fix at the.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
End of my. Career BUT i played my whole career
with the torm.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Inniscus Larry vaulk AND i didn't get you didn't give
me all that tough guy.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
CREDIT i don't think you ever told.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
Us, OH i ain't known how to tell, you, well.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
How are we gonna? Go so, uh neither did Brook brooklyn,
now but the word leaked, out, wow that she had.
That she didn't tell. Anybody, no she didn't ever use
it as an. Excuse but as you Heard craig, SAY
i mean sometimes you just had to take we have
to take it. Easy in, practice and you can't do
this was hurting her toward the. END i just think
not everybody would have that same pain. Threshold AND i
(19:24):
just think it's pretty significant that she never missed a
set of any match all season to go ahead and
play through that where maybe not everybody. Can maybe elite
athletes like you guys can handle that kind of. PAIN
i know WHEN i tweaked my, Hamstring i'm down for
six months and crying every.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
Day see now you.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Discounting now you discount BECAUSE i came clean that. Information
i'm gonna keep the restler information on. Myself we'll be
back after. This you're Listening Stockyards Bank sunday went a
sports talk on news radio six THIRTY. Wlab this is
the home of The. Wildcats six THIRTY. Wlap welcome Back
Stockyards Bank. Snday want a sports talk On Anthony white
along With Larry vaught And Boul. Robinson this our sunny
(20:04):
one of sports talk because brought to you by a
country boy. Brewing if you like to join the show
eight five to nine to eight zero to to eight
seven eight five to nine to eight Zero. Cats we
had a couple of callers to call, in but we had.
Guests so if you want to call back, in call back.
In we've basically been talking, about well SEE uk. Basketball
where you staying at this point in the. Week what
(20:24):
are our lineup's going to look? Like because it looks
like we won't Have Jalen low for the rest of
the season or is probably best that, he you, know
get hisself. Fixed Will stein is now available to come
into the office and do his full time duty as
our head. Coach now putting together a nice. Roster Larry
vaught before we talk about women's, Basketball, uh what DID i?
(20:46):
Are what did eighteen? Players Larry? Vaught four offenans, linemen
four defensive, linemen five DB's so thirteen was that about
thirteen six to eighteen? Players so they're not keeping any.
Secret we're. Dressing we're dressing the trenches in our back
in and then maybe he's just dressing the back end
(21:09):
because we do WE i, mean Ty bryant is you
know somebody who can you can count. On but we
did have to hit the port a little bit to
get some help. There but he's pretty it seems like he's,
uh he has a purpose on what we're. Doing the
things he's going to address is no.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
Secret, YEAH i MEAN i have a.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
Hard time sometime right now you kind of need a
scorecard to keep track who's, going who's.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Coming who's.
Speaker 4 (21:34):
STAYING i, MEAN i don't. KNOW i mean it seems
like every day it's it's just something different because basically
have to rerecruit your whole. Roster and when the transfer
portal opens and somebody doesn't go, in doesn't mean they
may not go in. Later SO i still guess why
we get another week to go through. That, no you
can still have guys putting their name in for the next,
week so but they've got to be on campus pretty
(21:55):
soon to be in. Class SO i guess we'll get
some closure to this fairly. Soon AND i think they
seem like here the last couple of, days they've hit
on some pretty big. GUYS i, MEAN i know a
couple of guys the offensive line have been starters in different,
places AND i like. THAT i like bringing in guys
that have been starters and not guys that are back
up and you're hoping are going to be really. Good
(22:18):
like What olas, SAID i never really thought. About i've
worried about how you developed chemistry that offensive, Line and
he says when you come to town there and you
don't know, anybody and those are the guys you're. WITH
i guess you have to bind together because that's the
only people you know to start out. With so hopefully
that's a good point that he brought up That i'd
never really thought. About and again with minshe the, QUARTERBACK
(22:40):
i don't, know maybe you knew something about him before
his name. Emerged i'd never heard of, him so maybe
he'll be. GREAT i never really heard Of Will. Levis
it came and worked out pretty. Good i'd never really
heard Of vandergriff Or, kazata and so we'll see what.
(23:01):
Happened trying to stay open minded about all of, this
but it's certainly made for a newsworthy last few, weeks hasn't.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
It, Yeah And i'm with you AND i kind of
listening To oless as wells with the whole idea of
not having a. CONTINUIT i think on the offensive line
and on the defensive, LINE i Know Van hois AND
i talked a lot. About, uh it's funny the position
that we're talking, about because we talk a lot on
our podcast about playing. Cornerback if he knows who his safety.
(23:32):
IS i don't know if you remember the names Like Reggie,
Rusk Melvin, Johnson George Why george's last name Is George,
harris like those so he, Played he says he plays
cornerback differently depending on who the safety. Is if a
safety has, range he can take more risk because the
safety can get over. Top then you got to hit,
(23:53):
her Like Melvin johnson who may not have, range but
so you could play. Off but you, know if he
has to fill the, hole you don't have to come as.
Quickly like there's a lot of things that got to
do with knowing your teammates That i'm with, YOU i
must Admit i'm being more optimistic by the day for
the reasons you, said like there are some talented people
(24:13):
AND i don't know if this makes you feel any,
Better Larry. Vatt not a lot like THE. Nfl but
that's how THE nfl. Is you bring in new draft
picks every. Year you, know they gotta you, know they
got to fit. In you, know as some people stick
around because they make enough because they're franchise, players and
some of them have to go somewhere. Else but the
(24:35):
moving parts are something that does Present pauls for me
a little, bit but the parts that we are moving
around are very. Attractive So i'm here For i'm here
for to give it a, chance AND i. Will and
that's the thing everybody said About minschi was that he
just couldn't play a note to damage this long Until
(24:57):
freeman said he. Developed he's right. There and you And
i've talked about that a lot on the. Show you,
talked you, know interview and How mummy and those offensive minded.
Coaches nobody wants a quarterback that's gonna be content sitting
on the. Bench so with that being, SAID i don't
know if the deal is done With minshe or. NOT
(25:17):
i know there's rumors going around by some of the
players who have signed or are back. ALREADY i guess
do you think we're? Done do you think we're done With?
MINSHE i know you AND i talked off, air but
do we get an assurance because Of stein's offense or
it JUST i guess his success is due to how
(25:37):
productive he is on, offense kind of like havel, mommy
not as much a have, mommy where we don't care
nothing about, defense but it is to the point where
as long as he's on, schedule as long as his
offense is, producing it should take a lot of stress
off the, defense and that starts with the. Quarterback so
if he has all his eggs in the, basket as
you just, said your Name Will, Levis Devin Larry zach kells.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
OUT i, Know Broc.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
Vandergrove he is up and down everywhere you. Go AND
i still don't Think Devin leary was as bad as
his performance was. HERE i just think he didn't have
a protection and continuity with the play, calling which you
can't argue with the play calling Because Liam cohen is
tearing up THE nfl right.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
Now, yeah that's WHY i didn't Mention leary, because LIKE i,
say have kind of mixed emotions and part of me, says,
wow he didn't work out so. Great THEN i go
back to look at his stats and who who he
is playing. WITH i think he did pre damn. WELL
i mean that's WHY i still don't really know how
to kind of do with with. Him but, yeah it's
kind OF i. THINK i think they've got to bring
in another, quarterback don't, you because right now they just
(26:39):
have one on, campus the, freshman and then they're counting
On Matt potatowski being, here WHICH i think that is his.
Attention but follow a, sudden The Major League Baseball draft
comes out and he goes really really, high and they're
putting a lot of zeros on a contract offer. HIM i,
mean so you just have to, think, yeah you'll probably be,
(27:02):
here but what if? Not so you've got to have
what three four quarterbacks at, Least SO i think they've
got to bring in somebody. Else but, again to bring
in somebody saying, yeah we really need, you we really
want so we've got a spot for. You you just won't,
start and you won't play as long as min she's.
HEALTHY i, mean that's kind of got to be hard
to find somebody to feel that, role isn't it?
Speaker 1 (27:21):
Ante and that's what has me scratching my? Head AND
i DON'T i want to bring you to take you to.
Task and remember That Shane boyd was also drafted In
Major League baseball and he decided football the rest of his.
LIFE i don't know why he never went back to.
Baseball because once you get, drafted you can take up
with that contract any, point right or you got to
you got a window that you can still take that, contract,
(27:41):
right do you not think you have.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
Within a year or something like that in your draft
right to go back to somebody, ELSE i.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
Believe, okay so you know it's not far fished to
believe that you can get drafted in the baseball and
then still decide to play. Football but like you, Said,
LARRY i think there's so much hinging on the quarterback.
Position he looked like he's alid of by an offensive.
LINE i don't know about the stud shit or the dude,
stuffs whatever we. CALL i don't know about that, Yet
But i'm where my paws may come. From IF i
(28:10):
had to find, one is like you're, saying if it Isn't,
minschi or If minschi comes in and you, know has
to have a learning curve or the processing isn't there
to carry out with will wants to carry.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
Out do we have the? Fund do do we spend the?
Money do we Disrespect?
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Minshi do we disrespect someone with a low, offer or
do we continue to try to find someone that may
be parallel With minshia and make it a quarterback. BATTLE
i just think the, money the money that the money
we forked over this year in, basketball and the return
on the, Investment i'm not certain if there's a lot
of extra money that'll be laying around for us to.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
Get AND i don't know how much we're Paying minshi.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
Yet, now if we Give minchi middle of the road
and we get another, guy give him in the middle
of the road and tell them to fight. It but
anybody who's the cald and you were at the press,
conference that that uh that he's will that Will stein
is talking about is seventy percent completion, ragees all these
processing capability and in the, pocket all those things he's
(29:13):
talking about that ain't just no Regular that ain't just
no regular. Quarterback and those guys that can do, THAT
i think are gonna come with a pretty. Penny that's
what's kind of concerning. Me uh maybe mention is that
Because I'm i'm, Right i'm with. You i'm right in
Between Will levis thought and Well brian Vander, GRIFFINS i
can't Miss i'm right in between.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
Both of, Those, yeah because they were both back up
so who came in highly touted by some and SO
i don't, know BUT i. Can't this is just that's
what the head coach makes his money. For he decides
who that guy is gonna, be and then if he's,
right he looks pretty. Good he's, not, right then we're
gonna we're gonna be roasting On sunday. MORNINGS i just
(29:52):
that's the decision that he has to make and live,
with and that's his what what he has. Done and
the same with the guys in the transfer. PORT i
don't know that rankings mean that, much BUT i, know
like when they got the left tackle From tennessee who
started for two years and only giving up three sacks
in two, years that's a NUMBER i can understand Because
tennessee throws the ball a. Lot if you only give
(30:14):
up three sacks in two years playing in The tennessee,
offense that makes me think he's pretty good BECAUSE i
know the people he's been playing against and he's been,
starting SO i like. It the center From, baylor he's
been starting, there and that gives you a pretty good track.
Record some of these other guys that have been backups
where they, Are, yeah you hope they'll come in and
be really, good But i'm not smart enough to. KNOW i,
(30:35):
mean that's what these coaches are supposed to be. Doing
and like with our buddy An, air does he have
anybody back in the defensive.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
FRONT i thought he had a, couple but the people
have been leaving, still like so when we, talk when
we talk at the beginning of, this he said he
had a couple guys he was, retaining but uh, no
but people are still dropping left and. Right So i'm
not certain what he still has. THERE i know HE'D
i know he didn't really like losing the Dry smith
(31:05):
and uh. EITHER i thought there was an outside Of,
russia which not his, guy but uh.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
That that there.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
Was, basically there was some potential on guys he. Knew
but this is the new, Landscape. Larry what there's potential
guys that he had worked, with developed and know what
they're made. Of to now you might have dudes like
so the guys you were working, on these guys played
college football for. Years they they may come in and
be dudes Like David gusta.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
Was.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
WELL i hope AND i hope that's the. Case AND
i Trust anwar's evaluations and his coaching ability a lot,
so but it's going to be interesting to just see
what what goes. ON i don't know What i'm guessing
we'll have limited or no access to spring. PRACTICE i
don't think That Probably oregon is a program that was
(31:54):
known for its accessibility as far as putting practices and
talking to coaches and all like. That we may even
have less access under will sign than what we had
Under Mark stoops as to see what goes on and
not goes. On BUT i do, KNOW i think they're
going to have morning, practices WHICH i, SAID i think
you said you were in favor of.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
That you like.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
That Uh, no the early ONES i. DIDN'T i like
playing at the time you play the. Game we practiced
like two, four like an afternoon like we practice from
two to Them oka four.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Thirty thank.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
YOU i think the guys next year are gonna be
if that's, case they're about to GET i hope they
have a lot of nine am games right.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
There, WELL i think they're. Fresh they're fresh at that
point so there's really no obligations of. Stress your fresh
do you have the rest of the day to do
what you want to. Do so it could work out
for business, aspect but just having your body in tune
TO i know when we played An Outback, bowl we
had a seven am work wake up for breakfast and
to travel. Them the game started at nine o'clock and
(32:52):
it was. WOW i was, like, MAN i was still
wiping asleep out of my.
Speaker 4 (32:55):
Eyes, YEAH i think those early PRACTICE i think a
lot of times just a way if coaches put a.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
Curfew, yes, YEAH i do think THAT'S i have a
lot to do with.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
IT i want to ask you before we go to
break then and try to find out if you know
what's going on With Kenny brooks and the.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
Girls but.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
You've said that thing about how many, tackles how many
sacks Or hervey's and sacks of offensive lineman given?
Speaker 3 (33:21):
Up when you talk To.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
Cole cubulik or whoever you respect a lot about the offensive,
game where do they get these dog on numbers? From
if someone runs a, stunt a t stunt or something
and you don't chase your man inside and you, know
maybe the guard has a double, team that's. You so
me and me and some of the former players have
always tried to, wonder how do you how do you gauge?
(33:42):
That And i'm Not i'm all for the stats And
i'm all for the. Hype it's, cool but knowing WHAT
i know just the same as the same as you,
Know Tyd. Bryant any, safety if a safety is, playing
is coverage and the other in the backside corner or
the backers don't get, depth or the back or the
strong safety doesn't get. Depth the only person you see
chasing the receiver is a. Safety but the safety could
(34:04):
have been playing a perfect. Coverage it could have been
somebody else out of.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
PLACE i don't know how that's usually a pro football
focused number type thing that comes. Out but Maybe i'll
try to reach out To cold and see if you
can answer that for, me Because i've never even stopped
to think about. THAT i just usually take it for
What anthony might gave up four. SACKS i never have
thought about, that AND i would think they have to
take that into consideration with. It, AGAIN i don't know
(34:29):
how you know all that either when you're just watching
a game field right, Right we'll be.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
Back to close out this edition Of Sunday Morning Sports.
Talk after, this you're listening To Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning
Sports talk On Who's radio six THIRTY. Wlp this is
the home of The Wild guts six THIRTY. Wlap welcome
Back Stockyards Bank sunday one And Sports. Talk I'm Anthony,
white along With Larry vaux And Bo robinson Our sunday
(34:55):
one In Sports talk has been brought to you By
Country Boy. Brewing let's hurry up and get to the
phone on lines really, Quickly Larry vault and see What
jean has to. Say good, Morning, jean what do you
got for?
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Us?
Speaker 6 (35:05):
YEAH i was worrying About Colored. BOWIE i know we
couldn't meet the price standard or something with, him BUT i,
mean we had A kentucky boy that was really, good
wanted to come To, kentucky but yet it seemed like
we're losing more than are getting back To kentucky. Guys
even the team down the road here In, louisville they're
(35:28):
getting all kinds of, good pretty good, ballplayers football players,
too and we're not Getting Since Vince maryll's gone down
then and he's getting more recruits FOR u OF, l
and we're not getting. Anything as far as THE, uk
we're own homegrown.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
BOYS i appreciate the, Call, Jean larry VAR i guess really.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
Quickly do you find it odd that we swapped out
swapped our recruiting coordinators.
Speaker 6 (35:54):
With LOUISVILLE.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
A? Little, yeah it's a little, different but it's kind
OF i, mean it depends on as you're at the head,
coach who you've got relationships With, Obviously will's got a
relationship with The knoveka from up At. Louisville mara's got
to relate Our brams got a relationship With. Mara so
it's kind of like just the, TRADE i. Guess but,
(36:19):
again they got to do what they think's. Best But
vince is still doing what he does up. There it
doesn't surprise me that some of the guys that have
Left kentucky have decided to go To louisville Or vince.
Recruiteral BUT i think, again AS i alluded to, Yesterday
Jehide brown Of Christian academy committed To. Indiana Junior Garyan
(36:43):
hobbes Of atherton committed To, indiana and Alanv is A
trinity committed TO u Of. Al and there are three
of the top five top six juniors in the state
Of kentucky and two of them going To indiana and
one going To.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Louisville kentucky coaches going To, Louisville louisville coaches coming To,
kentucky players transferring To, louisville all that it is the
Most kentucky football thing. Ever, absolutely that's speaking Of kentucky.
Football really, Quickly Larry. Vatt he asked About cutter. Bowling
was it a money, issue was it probably? Best did
everybody get a new fresh? Start or are you sad
(37:18):
to See cutter?
Speaker 4 (37:19):
Go, no it was just a decision to both mate.
Again Will stein decided That cutter could stay if he,
wanted made him an, offer BUT i think probably let
him be known That cutter he didn't Think cutter was
going to be his. Guy cutter got offers from a
lot of, schools and the one From Arizona. State from
the numbers THAT i have, SEEN i don't know anybody
(37:41):
could have turned it. Down so now you just hope
THAT i Hope cutter has a great twenty twenty six,
season AND i Hope Kenny mitche has a great twenty
twenty sixth season for Will, stein BECAUSE i think when
you get a new, coach he's got every right to
pick the guy that he wants to be his. Quarterback
and even though we Recruited cutter in high, SCHOOL i
(38:01):
guess he decided To cutter wasn't the guy he wanted
to roll with number. One and you can understand Why
cutter didn't want to come back be a backup.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Again SO i get that two things can be the
same at the two things can be right at the same.
Time Kenny, brooks let's get back on the right side
of the wind. Column you can watch THE Sec network
