Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk presented by
the lead Troop Boards Radio Network on six thirty w LAP.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sonay one of Sports Talk. I'm
Anthony White along with Larry vaugh and Robinson and now
probably be joined by We're not typically people say their
father or so Bred Williams, father of Cam Williams.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Hopefully get him back soon and hope for him to
stay safe. He do, he's gracious enough to.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Join us while he's enduring the same thing we're enduring
up here.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
But mister Williams, good morning. How you doing?
Speaker 4 (00:40):
Good morning, sir, I'm doing well. We're fighting the elements
just like you guys.
Speaker 5 (00:46):
And it's a.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Little more, it's a little crazier over here because we're
truly not prepared because we don't get this kind of
weather that often maybe every two or three years.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Did you did you not attempt to, as I see
because we are on screens with each other, did you
attempt to say, hey, I can't come in to work
or you might be you might be the big dog
where you the one who got to ask people to
come in to work?
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Well, no, no, I have too many hands out so
I have to make sure I just plan on getting
up and coming to work. And it takes the state
troopers to say, look, you can't come to work this
way or that way, and then I just stay home.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Larry Var are you safe over there? Before we before
we came on there, you said you got what going
on over there?
Speaker 6 (01:32):
And Damnville got way too much ice. The tree limbs
are bending up on my deck out here.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
I just looked.
Speaker 6 (01:41):
I didn't and it's coming down really hard right now.
So we may be getting ready to so go we
start updating power outages in Boyle County.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
When he said, Harrysburg, it scared me.
Speaker 6 (01:52):
And so it's, uh, it keeps going like this for
much longer, We're gonna be in trouble over here.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Is that why you're your video is starting to slow down?
And everything it might?
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Hey, mister Williams, obviously you know big news this week
about Cam. You know, I think you know, UK starting
to get starting to get some traction as far as
in the conference getting ready to make the run for March.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
I think Pope has some things up his sleeves.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
CAM started, you know, come along, getting to just dude,
getting more opportunities getting more.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Minutes, then has a setback.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
I'm not sure if you are able to say or
discussed where's Cam.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Maybe it's too new to even know where we see
them back by March.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Is a small, small thing because it was non contact
or was there some contact we missed, No.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
It was non contact.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
It's basically it's like a stress fraction and oh, Cam
came here one. He's almost too ten now, so he's
been running on an extra twenty pounds causing a little
extra stress on his feet, and we think that's what
led to the Jones fraction. And he had a procedure
(03:12):
on Friday, went home and you know, right now we're
in that that mode where you have to make sure
you avoid any blood clots and things of that nature.
So getting through that initial pain with medication, and you know,
he can't travel, can't do anything but play, you know,
the PlayStation. But you know one thing he's doing, he's
(03:32):
watching the games. You know he I'm gonna share this
with you. He was only out of surgery and up
for minutes and he had myself, mom and.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
His brother on the phone.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
His brother's in Israel, and the next thing he asked for,
He's like I have to call my team, you know.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
You know, so, so he's going through, you know.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
A very serious situation, but he's thinking about his teammates.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
You know, So.
Speaker 6 (04:04):
I say that the surgery, does that involved putting a pen,
a screw or something in that food or yes.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
He has a screw and that fifth medical met a
parcel to stabilize it. And you know, right now, we
don't know what time frame we're looking at because it
all depends on healing. You know, he's a twenty year old,
so safe to stage's probably gonna heal faster than me.
You know, I'm also twenty and I'm his dad. I
(04:35):
wasn't known for my math, So don't anyone get upset
and call. But I feel twenty one, if that makes
people feel better. But I think he's gonna you know,
he's gonna fight to do everything he can to come back,
and that just depends on his body and the doctors.
They never let players dictate because if that's the case.
Speaker 5 (04:56):
He will be probable for us. You know, Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
Is that something?
Speaker 2 (05:04):
As I stated earlier, like Jalen's already declared out. Nobody
know what JQ is. He's day to day and like
I said, we just kind of get some traction knowing
that we're not having Jalen back, like we're not having
a back, like we can start focusing on Cam, start
focusing on what we're gonna play jazz for in some
of those guys. But uh, like I said, Camp was
kind of swing man. I know we talk off aeric.
(05:26):
Cam probably could go two through four.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
May be more comfortable two or three. But if you
need four, humble guy, Hey you need what do you need?
Speaker 6 (05:34):
Four?
Speaker 3 (05:34):
All right, coach, I'm going in at fourth.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
Is that one of the reasons that you said if
he comes back, whether it's needed or not. Oh no, no,
I mean him coming back is can he play and
not re injure because the risk of fracture is very small,
but it's still a risk. And so he has to
be able to come back and play with our reservation.
And if he has to play with reservation, then doesn't
(06:00):
really help him to play because you're gonna play scared.
You can't play wanting to avoid injury. You have to
play trying to gain a victory. And so that's what
we're just, you know, right now, going through the process,
making sure that he's eating right, he's sleeping, he's keeping
his foot elevated, and if he does everything he's supposed
to do, you know, the doctor said, you're looking at
(06:22):
six to eight weeks, and so we have to follow
that guideline.
Speaker 5 (06:25):
And you know it's the same for.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
JQ.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
You know, he's done everything the doctor said.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
But you know, our bodies are really in control, and
so that swelling may mean he needed to rest.
Speaker 5 (06:37):
And so these athletes have put in a lot of work.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
You're very familiar with that, and they don't want to
a season to go and you know.
Speaker 5 (06:46):
For a waste.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
They want to be able to contribute any way they can.
They feel they can win the national championship. And if
you're not playing for championships, I don't know why you're playing.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
Greg.
Speaker 6 (06:55):
Is there a point I know you said you're just
barely older than Cam, but you're a little or maybe
you might have to set down and say, yeah, what's
best in the short term and what's best in the
long term, art the same thing and make him, as
you said, think about he's kind of a lot of
basketball hopefully down the road other than just in March
(07:18):
this year.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
Well, no, I mean the thing and this is the
other thing I want people to know. You know, I
got a call from Coach Pope and he said, listen,
we like him to play, but he has more ahead
of him than he has behind him, and he's really
concerned about Cam the player right now.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
I'm sorry Cam the person right now with his injury.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
And then if he is, if it's possible for him
to come back, then he's gonna start thinking about Cam
the player. You know, it's all about what's best for him,
because if he's not healthy, he can't help the team.
And if he's not healthy and he hurts himself again,
he hurts his future. So let me say Coach Prope
and his staff or dived into the Cam as the
(08:04):
person first, you know, and you didn't let us down
getting hurt. It just happened. And you know, so Cam
has many obstacles. He has, you know, the doctor, he
has Coach Pope, because Coach Pope isn't going.
Speaker 5 (08:17):
To let him put his health in front of anything.
And I can really appreciate that.
Speaker 6 (08:24):
I feel like we were just kind of starting to
see what maybe you had seen from Cam for a
long time. Was there still a lot more to his
game that hopefully we were going to see this year
if he hadn't got hurt.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Oh no, it was.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
You know, this is the thing.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
A lot of the things that you've seen he could
always do, and there are things that you haven't seen
that he can do. But uh, there's a dynamic on
any team. You know, when you came to Kentucky, there's
no doubt that this was otaga Away's team, no doubt.
Speaker 5 (08:53):
And so you kind of have to defer to the guy.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
But then you also have other people who were the
guy on their teams. Jalen Lowe, he was a leader
at pitt Aberdeen, although he was a reserve at Florida.
He's a very good player, and so you have to
kind of fit in to have everything flow.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
That's the jailing process.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
And so I think once Otaga looked at him and said, hey, look,
you know you have it in you. You know you
need to let it show. No problem from me, I'm
gonna do me. And I think Cam got comfortable like that.
I think that Denzel also said, look, hey, man, we
need you, you know, do your thing. And they're doing
the same thing for Jasper, for Malachi, even Jelling. They're saying, hey, look,
(09:38):
you know we're all pieces. If you feel it flow,
you know, just don't do anything crazy. And that's why
the team has actually everyone has kind of fit into
their role. That's why they started winning. We folded before
because we didn't really know. But now when it gets tough,
nobody's folding. They just take over boom, do what they
(10:01):
have to do.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
Will we go, Hey, we'll take a break.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
I do want to get a little talk a little
bit more about us.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
As Larry said, Cam started getting traction.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Like I said, everything starts coming together and that's what
we take get one percent better every day man during
the season. And I did want to kind of get
your feelings and maybe you know, with Cam may have
shared with you about uh the impact on what's going
to happen in March. But we're gonna take a break
and we'll continue this conversation after that. We'll be back
after this. You listen to Stockyards Bank Sunday when the
(10:34):
Sports Talk and these radio six thirty W people.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk presented by
the lead Troop Bords Radio Network on six thirty W
l A P.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday when the Sports Talk me
Anthony White, along with Larry Vaught and Bob Robinson, still
joined by Greg Williams.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
Happy of Cam Williams as your Cam Williams an integral
part of UK success.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
At this point, Greg, I did kind of want to
ask you man, I know you talked about earlier. Once Cam,
you know, got medical procedures and got medical advice that
you know, you guys got on the phone. He called
his teammates, those his first priorities, family, then team.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
It is. This ain't the nineteen hundreds, Greg, This twenty
twenty six.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
He can just facetimes like you can be looking at
each other Kumbai, Ai, you can be looking at each
other face to face and getting an update on what's
going on. But my real question is he's finally getting traction.
He's finally getting menaced, and you know I do know
his health. At first he has to go through the
doctors as you stayed before. He has to go through
(11:45):
the doctors and pope before he gets back on the court.
But he wants to win just like anybody else. No,
he's not getting any younger. You meet Greg, I mean
meet you, Larry booh someone, Oh we all got great.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
That great didn't.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
Come from just walking around just being God that grave
come from time. Don't wait for no run, So Cam,
you don't having to sit out and knowing we you
know we don't.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Is that in the back of his mind? Are you
guys having conversations about that that you.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
Know, Dad, I want to be out there, I know
they need me to be there, or like you said,
he has to wait behind all of the gatekeepers.
Speaker 5 (12:22):
Well just remember this.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
The person that he's had to watch throughout all of
this preparation is somebody that he watched only be able
to work out and has.
Speaker 5 (12:34):
Been in his position for months.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
He's watched JQ, a high level guy, a top five
NBA prospect, have to work hard and then come.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
And sit at every game knowing he can't play.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
And so then he had to sit and watch Jalen
Lowe play, get injured, sit out, try to rehab, come back,
get reinjured. You know, so he's able to see somebody
and say, hey, look, maybe this desire to play can't
(13:09):
outweigh the fact that you're injured and you can maybe
hurt the team more than you can help them.
Speaker 5 (13:17):
Because you can't defend. You know, you won't be able
to run.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
You can't plant and shoot, so you have to let
your body dictate when you come back. If you really
care about the team, get healthy, you know, stay in shape,
and then come back, you know. And if you can't
do it, it's not because you don't want to, it's
just that the body is saying this isn't the time.
And so that's we're trying to get him to understand
that part. You're not letting the team down. Just get
(13:43):
healthy and then you can help them.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
And I know you, Like I said, we talked about
off air, and it's kind of and this is one
thing I've been questioning. I've been telling Jack Pilgrim. I
don't know how much you talk to Jack Pilgrim off
of you know, Sunday morning Sports talk or whatever, but
I've been talking to them, and like I said, Mark
Pope is a smart guy. We talked before. Man, he
knows basketball. He knows how to talk action. No, it
(14:08):
doesn't often or always have to translate to the players,
but you'll seem to kind of get an understanding of
what Mark Pope's doing. Thought, Uh, the rotations are changing,
the lineups is changing, and many.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Times I don't know, I don't have any children.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
But I'm sure you have an opinion on whether and
you you handled it very well. You articulated very well
when your son is not playing as much as you
expect for either of your sons and things are not
going their way, but you seem to understand a little
bit what you think Mark Pope is doing with these
guys and you and the sounds that it is me
as you you feelings are going to pay off in
the long run.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
Oh no, I finally got to see his vision in
the game, you know, and basically he wants every player
to come in and do what you were brought in
here to do without fear, meaning you have to really
cherish the minutes that you get. And so they look
at Yelevish Yellovich is a stretch guy, six eleven. He
can shoot the three. What's he been doing in the
(15:05):
last few games. Come in the game, He's not afraid
to pull the three. He's out there defending. I mean
when I saw him get the rebound, defensive rebound, dribble
all the way down the court and do a layup.
That's Mark Pope's vision for Yellovich, and Yellovich had to
finally see and embrace it. So what you're seeing from
(15:26):
Cam is Coach Pope saying, hey man, you can do everything.
So when you see Cam doing the turn around jump
shot against Texas, when.
Speaker 5 (15:34):
You see him get it on from the three, back
the guy down, you know, do that shot, shoot the three.
That's what Pope wants him to do. And so everybody on.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
The team he's communicated that to them, and that's why
they're winning.
Speaker 5 (15:48):
They come in, do what I've brought you here to do.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
Shoot the three, defend, make the great pass.
Speaker 5 (15:57):
You know, because a lot of you know, a lot
of people understand Asper.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
Is a scoring two guard that's being asked to be
a distributing point guard.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
That's tough.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
Cam was brought here as a two three. They're asking
him to do the four. That's tough, but they're embracing it.
They've had experience playing it. That's how you went five
sec games in a row.
Speaker 6 (16:24):
Greg, if any UK fans wanted to kind of reach
out and show some support for Cam or just wish
him well or whatever, would be the best way.
Speaker 5 (16:31):
For them to do that.
Speaker 6 (16:32):
Social media or what would you suggest?
Speaker 4 (16:34):
I mean, definitely social media because he's kind of he
can only be at home.
Speaker 5 (16:39):
You know, he can't leave out.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
He can't really do anything, so but he he looks
at social media and so if you reach out on
ig you know Cammy one K, you know, he really appreciated.
Speaker 5 (16:50):
You know, He's put post.
Speaker 4 (16:51):
Out saying thank you for all the love, the well
wishes and prayers. If you do that, you know, keeping
his spirits up because he is trying to come back.
He hasn't packed it in. You know, he's gonna listen
to the doctors and he's gonna listen to his body.
And this team, I think, wants to keep the winning
streat going and if they can't win everything, they want
(17:14):
to put the team in a position that they're going
to be playing when he's ready to come back.
Speaker 6 (17:20):
And I'm anxious to see Coach Williams out on the
court when he gets back to help coach the team.
Speaker 5 (17:26):
Well he's Coach Williams right now. You know.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
Coach Popa said, hey, look, you know, come on over here.
You want to help, you know, come and help with
the scout and help with different things.
Speaker 5 (17:34):
And I really love that part.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
You know, cam wants to be a coach one day,
and so Coach Popa's like, hey, look, come on over
here and get a little experience right here, you know,
find out the things that we're saying about you.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
You know him, Greg, We got about a minute and
a half.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
My last thing I kind of wanted to ask you,
kind of just discussion off of Eric, and you said
you want to stand post vision.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
This is what I've been telling everybody.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Pope knows basketball, and it's kind of it reminds me
of mister Miyagi watx on man saying.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
In the floor, what is all this?
Speaker 2 (18:05):
This ain't got nothing to do with karate. But like
you said, you putting these guys in the pressure cooker. Now,
the crazy thing is you are the father cam Here's
he comes on at the big Blue Man this or
whatever hits and come here take a half of course.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
At bottom of the net. But every that is a
pressure cooker.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
To be asked to coming to a Division one game
at the University of Kentucky, the mecca of college basketball,
and perform immediately him.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Jasper Jelvick, that is that is tough.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Now, that is tough to be asked to come in
for a minute or two and give me instant offense.
Speaker 5 (18:41):
Well, I mean, the.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
Thing about it is as an athlete. You've been doing
that for years. So the goal, no matter what GM
he plays in is ten feet tall. It's a certain
distance from the free throw line to the goal, from
the three point line to the goal. When you're playing,
you boxed all of that out. So that really is
sure doing what you've been practicing forever. And so that's
(19:04):
why when these guys get out there and perform, you know,
all Coach folk did will say, this is my vision.
He's asked them one question, where do you fit it
in this vision?
Speaker 5 (19:14):
And once they understood.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
Where they fit the role that they play, that's why
they haven't haven't lost. And even if they have lost.
Speaker 5 (19:25):
There has been light. There was no light at the
end of the tunnel. This Gonzaka. We were deep into mind.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
We didn't we.
Speaker 5 (19:31):
Didn't have any help. We're looking for salt and gold.
We didn't find anything.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
But since that time, we're a different team now. And
you're gonna see that against a good team like Vandy,
a good team like Arkansas, and there's no way you
can guarantee a win, but they're not going there to lose.
Speaker 5 (19:48):
I see his vision.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
Coach Folker is like believe in yourself and take your
personal vision out and put the team goal ahead, and
this team can go anywhere.
Speaker 5 (20:01):
We can win number nine.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
You just gotta believe, and that's what we want the
fans to do. Be upset if we lose, but know
that we can win. We're just like Indiana Indiana football
three stars down and we're second place in the SEC.
Speaker 5 (20:17):
Who would have thought that.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
Well, mister Willis appreciate you the joinings this morning, and
our prayers are with Our.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Prayers are with Cabby and the family.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Hey, if you guys can watch Larry and Greg on
this camera, they're breaking my professionalism trying to keep it
hang on.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
Let's be honest.
Speaker 7 (20:39):
They are making fun of me for giving you all
countdowns on the camera. That's what they're doing and I
appreciate it from you, mister Williams. That's awesome. Keep it up, man,
keep doing what you're doing, and all the best to Cam.
Speaker 5 (20:51):
Thank you very much, sir, Thank you, Greg, Thank you gentlemen.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
We'll be back after this.

Jeff Rubies.
Speaker 2 (21:34):

Speaker 3 (22:08):
But you started with man, you started with steak, all.
Speaker 7 (22:12):
Right, you know what, Just bring me some Chilian hash brands.
I'll be okay. Throw a little hot sauce on there. Hey, listen,
I'm sure Van can whip up some kind of good
recipe for me.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
Too, been thousand miles away, thousands.
Speaker 7 (22:26):
I've got access to a kitchen. Actually, the sweet I'm
in downtown does have a kiss.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
Did you start to comment off by saying sweet sweet,
but you slum and go ahead tell us about your
hardship and you're slumming?
Speaker 7 (22:45):
Well, first of all, I had a park in the garage,
and then.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
And then I actually had.
Speaker 7 (22:53):
To walk and they had to get the key card out,
and then I had to go up another elevator a
couple of floors.
Speaker 5 (22:59):
I mean it was rough.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Getting to the penhouse is tough.
Speaker 7 (23:03):
Yeah, and then actually, you know what I actually had
to do make my own sandwich last night.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
She's your little sister, not gonna do that.
Speaker 7 (23:15):
I can take care of I can take care of myself, Anthony.
Despite what you may think, all this.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
Man house talk, all this man house talk leads to
us to our guests, now glad to be joined by
vand House, former UK defensive back in the family defensive back. No,
you can catch him everywhere on media, catch everywhere Van House.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
We went to Jeff Ruby's.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
You remember what I got when we went to Jeff
Ruby's the one time I've ever been.
Speaker 8 (23:45):
Probably some bread and water because because when they saw
you walk in.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
They're like bread and water.
Speaker 5 (23:51):
No ice in the water either, no ice bread tap water.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
I gotta shake his sally, you remember that.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Yeah, I was looking through the mix and you like,
what's under twenty dollars. That wasn't really the reason. But
I'm a Finniken eater. But I did get a chicken salad.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Larry Vaut.
Speaker 8 (24:11):
Yeah, well, I'm gonna tell both. Get something with truugh
on it. Get some lobster and stay away from the steak.
Get you some lobster. Get you a lamb chop or something.
Don't don't steak is too that's too easy for everybody.
(24:31):
Lamb chop with some truffles, all butter on something and
some lobster, and you should be all right. That's that's
that's expensive if it's free, if it's not free chicken salad,
not free chicken salad.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Larry Vault. I did go look outside and my cars
because I got stuff going on. I was trying to
do some trying to get a second income because radio
don't pay.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
I was trying to in my regular job don't pay.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
I was trying to sell something second hand, not second hand,
just sell it, you know. So I got my whole
garage full of things I need to be selling, which
I'm not selling because I'm too busy working, so I
don't get a chance to sell it. So my cars
are in the driveway instead of in the garage like
most people supposed to be. I don't know if that's
an urban thing or not, that people don't use their
garage just for they're supposed to be use for the
(25:25):
kitchen car in there, there would be no I I
went out there and look, Larry Vault, pol Robinson van house.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
It's gonna take me, dude. My whole car looks like
an ice sculpture like there.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
Now, if you chip away at the ice, I'm probably
gonna tear my car up, and everything's probably frozen in
there on within, like the mechanism that haves to be released.
I'm not gonna So when we started to show off
with the lightheartedness on how much snow we were supposed
to get, that ice ain't no joke.
Speaker 6 (25:59):
Larry Vault tried to tell you. I was telling Van
during the break, I've heard some noise. Couln't fare up.
I was going on my neighbors out trying to keep
his car off. Man, he's slamming away. Now he's making
a dent. And then I and I was telling Van
my cars are in the garage. I put them in
there Friday afternoon. But and so I wanted to worry
(26:19):
about that. But my garage doors may be fro shut,
may not be able get them out of the garage
Friday here or something. They get the fire department to
come up with squirt water, something to get them out.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
Bo Robinson, have you have you checked your cameras? Everything fine?
Speaker 2 (26:33):
Do I need to send some first responders over to
check on Yo, since you haven't been home. You've been
slumming it out in the tent like you're waiting for
a big blue Madness ticket.
Speaker 7 (26:42):
And I've done that before. Powers still on, cameras are
still working. Everything looks good.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
Van House down down in Baton Rouge, good down there, Man.
Speaker 8 (26:54):
It is actually cold today, I think No, I think
it's in the thirties. It is supposed to get supposed
to get in the twenties this evening, but not not
like y'all. Well, I'll say this, if we get a
little bit of ice here, it's worse here than it
(27:15):
is there because we.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
Have you saw y'all ain't got no so they got tables.
Speaker 8 (27:19):
Saw we are saying, we're saying down we have nothing.
So they already counseled school. Oh wow, Yeah, there's no Yeah, dude,
when it when it's any threat of call in the
morning with precept on the road, they close it premptively,
like two three days in the vans because they know
(27:41):
we have no resources. So school is out Monday. So
and I bet it's gonna be four degrees and sunny
and we could have went.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
To school Monday. All right, Uh stay, so stay off
the road.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
We're saying, Van House, we ain't gonna talk a whole
lot of women's basketball. I don't like the direction is going, man,
and we had such a great future. But we haven't
talked a whole lot of UK football. And everybody keeps
saying the same thing, you're breaking down personnel. One thing
that that keep coming to question, I'm not gonna break
down personnel.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
One thing that keeps coming to question.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Van Hous is that some of the guys we're bringing
in were not maybe out of high school started with
a higher and I didn't realize it. Just that your
star rankings as you are in college. Like, so when
you're into the party, your star rankings is not what
they were in high school.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
So you talk about you know, you talk about Barns
and Baxter.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
I mean, yeah, Baxter and some of those running back
and I like them, but I'm also van cut from
the cloth up.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
I was a throwaway running back. We can't play here.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
We're kicking off the team because my Willims was adult.
So you can't do it more Wims do. You can't
play it. But so when you recycle a running back,
you can rejuvenate your career.
Speaker 5 (28:55):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Well, well I guess Davis that was here. I guess
he should he led the conference in they uh and Vandy.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
So I'm not surprised what Ray did here.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
But the point being is, like some of the guys
come in here, people the comments are when they didn't
make that damn old school.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
So but then then you got another group.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Of fan base who are saying, man, we got we
got the number one interior offensive line in the nation,
and we are getting big dog offensive linemen. So people
do not know if it's gonna translate to Kentucky's success.
Now off all of a sudden, Indiana's the standards. So
what's your take? Where are you staying right now? On
our transfer portal success and just just uh Will's introduction
(29:41):
to Kentucky.
Speaker 8 (29:43):
First of all, stop your throwing away. We threw you
away in nineteen ninety.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
Oh we you said you didn't know. Stop it, stop it,
stop it. No one threw you away.
Speaker 8 (29:58):
Now we don't want to talk about what happened that
had you get thrown away.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
But let's start with Nah.
Speaker 8 (30:06):
I'm not gonna go into the Alabama game because I
don't want to want people to get to get all misconstrued.
But basically, this is what I like about the Portal class.
And the thing about the portal is you have no
idea are they gonna perform until they get to your buildings.
The great thing about the class is we get multi
(30:29):
year guys. Most of the guys that we have received
from the Portal are gonna be here more than a year.
And if they're not here more in a year, either
they didn't perform or they're going to the NFL Draft.
So it's a good thing if they only stay here
a year, if they go to the NFL draft, because
we have they have come here and that's given us
the best years of their career, and that's a good thing.
(30:50):
So having multiple years allows us to develop them and
that's a positive and hopefully that's what happened. But we
cannot predict how these guys are going to perform, because
if we're in the portal, more than likely there's a
reason you might not have gotten a plan time that
you thought you deserve and you're trying to find another
opportunity to be able to to show your ability for
(31:12):
your chance to get to the NFL. So let's see
if these guys can come here and we can develop
them so they can reach their full potential.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Simple as that. That is Van Howes.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
We'll take an early break because I don't we got
a little bit more to talk about and I don't
want to put us up against a break.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
We'll continue the conversation after this.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
You're listening to Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk on
news radio six thirty WLAP.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
This is Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk, presented by
the lead Trip Bords Radio Network on six thirty w LAP.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
Welcome back Stockyards Bank Sunday Morning Sports Talk. I'm asking
you why along with.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
I'm with Larry Vaught and Bo Robinson and we're still
joined by Van Howes.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
This hour Sunday morning sports talk is bar by country
Boy Brewing. We're talking UK football.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
Cook will Stein has finally completed as roster and there
are some teams in the country he had has well.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
We had high turnover last year. We had fifty new
people on the roster.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
We're doing our It seems as if the national pundits
are saying.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
That our transfer portal activity is Indiana esque. I'm not
certain that something that.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
I mean, maybe Indiana turnaround and just starts just rallying
off national championships.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
Who knows, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
But so people are saying we're on the road that
Indiana went through to get.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
To where they are.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Larry Vaugh questions that because Larry body just realized that we've.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
Had some turnover here, some needed some not.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Rock vander Griff was highly sought after, Zach Calzada, get
your money up, Garretts, highly sought after, Larry, What are
you standing now?
Speaker 5 (33:00):
Want to know?
Speaker 6 (33:00):
I just want to get expert opinion. So I'd like
Van to, off the top of his head kind of
tell me how many people that are transferred into Kentucky
in the let's just say two years, do you think
have over exceeded expectations? Have been better than you anticipated?
Because I think we've had several that haven't lived up
to expectations. But I was just wondering, in fairness, then
(33:23):
how many do you think maybe have over exceeded what
was expected.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
Last I'm gonna say last few years.
Speaker 8 (33:31):
I' muna say for this year to I didn't think
Seth and mcgaland would be as valuable as he turned
out to be. I think Seth was a big one
for us. I think Gusta and Humphrey Grace were over exceeded.
I think Sam Green over exceeded for me what I
thought he was going to give us. If you go
(33:52):
back a few years, I mean Ray Davis was a dude. Yeah,
Ray Davis was big for us that year. If you're
didn't look at that year, if we didn't have Ray Davis,
I'm not sure we are as successful as we were
that year. And Will Levis and I mean, if I
guess one that Robinson, you want to call him a transfer.
He's a hometown kid. He doesn't he just came back home.
(34:15):
That wasn't a transfer. So I would say those probably
are big transfers with Kejon Smith and Jack Jones, but
those are not in the last two years. So in
the last two years, I guess I can only think
of a couple that's seth th in a couple of
those defense alignments. The Porters hit a miss that Brock
vandergriff year, And I think that's why pundits are giving
(34:38):
us a high grade is because we got the quarterback
that we wanted. I think value and quarterback is what
skews all rankings. I think LSU is probably ranked high
because they got Sam Levitt. I think probably Texas Texas
higher because they got Soresby. If they didn't get those quarterbacks,
they probably not rank as high because of the value
(34:59):
we put on a quarterback the position.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
Speaking of quarterback position, we lost a quarterback. Do you
think we upgraded at quarterback? I'm gonna have Larry Vaught first.
I'm know Larry vaughd ain't gonna have a long answer,
and I want to see what your rebuttal is. Larry
vaugh do you think we upgraded at quarterback? Van said
we got the quarterback we wanted. Aris On the State
obviously thought that our quarterback was worth financially a little
(35:24):
bit more, and I like everybody said, bring a quarterback
in and we can develop. No, it's not Wills guy.
And I'm sure everything Will Touches can turn gold.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
But do we upgrade?
Speaker 6 (35:36):
I don't know because I know what I know what
Kentucky head and cutter and what I thought he maybe
could be. But Minshe, I really don't know. I mean,
once you played a few backup snaps in Notre Dame.
I've not been in practice to watch. This is just
one of those you trust Will and kind of go
along with what Van said.
Speaker 5 (35:52):
Will's going to be the coach he wants to be.
Speaker 6 (35:54):
You better have got it right, because because if he's
got that one wrong, it's gonna be hard to live
it down. Or goes up to Arizona State throws for
four thousand yards and Minshi throws for nine hundred to Kentucky.
But that's why Will gets the big money that he gets.
So but for me, Van, I don't know. I've not
seen enough of Minche to really be able to make
an educated guess.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Yeah, I mean I would say this.
Speaker 8 (36:21):
It is interesting that when you bring in new blood,
how perception and perspective changes. If Mark Steuts was a
quarterback and we brought in Minsche, I don't think the
excitement would be as high as will Stein and Sloan
bringing Minschi. It's as an interesting perception because we brought
(36:42):
in Brock Vandergriff with.
Speaker 5 (36:44):
A kind of the same.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Stats and he was not successful.
Speaker 8 (36:50):
So it will seem like we as fans will be
a little skeptical of going through that again. So for
us to not be so skeptical for us, but for
a lot of BBN, for not to be so skeptical
of a quarterback that has not really gotten big snaps,
it's kind of interesting. It can't work well. Will Levis
(37:10):
didn't get many snaps. He came in was probably our
best quarterback in the last five or six years.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
So can it work. Sure, But to.
Speaker 8 (37:24):
A lot of people say, I know it's gonna work
because of the offensive staff. I don't know it's gonna work.
I hope it's gonna work. And let's see if the
thing with will Stein and sloanness every year they should
be able to get the quarterback the quarterback that they
identified because they're supposed to be offensive gurus.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
If they don't do that.
Speaker 8 (37:44):
Now, I question a lot of things because that's your
level of expertise. That's the same thing I started questioning
a little bit of stoops. If your expertise is defensive backs,
we haven't hit on the defensive back in a long time.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
That is Van House. One second. I'm only give you
one second. Round the horn really quick. We go bowling. Larry,
no man, no both. No, I'm gonna say yes just
because I'm gonna go against Grave.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Thanks Greg Williams, Thanks to Van House, Thanks to Larry Vaud,
thanks both. Robinson keeping his own air, I'm Anthony. Why
does this is a miss? Stockyards Bank? Sunday Morning Sports
