You're non sex non non sexual life partner.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
There you go, Eric, and then we have the fabulous
producer Claire's okay, So I thought we'd dedicate this episode
to somebody who is one of the most important people
that has ever been in my life, and it's Jerry
(01:19):
from Jeff and Jerr in case you didn't hear the news.
He has passed away. And this last week has been
very as I explained it on my social media, which
took a minute for me to like to to say
(01:43):
something because I was just in shock. He wasn't supposed
to die. It was he had so much more life
to live. He had so many plans, and uh, it's
taken me. Uh, it's grief is a is a different
for everybody. I feel just so incredibly heavy and just
(02:08):
desperate for his wife of thirty four years. How they
loved each other, loved each other. They never had kids,
but they had animals, and they were so passionate about
everything in life. And I just my heart goes out
to her and then I'm feeling my own loss. I
sat next to this man for twenty seven years, and
(02:29):
the laughs we had, the cries, we shared everything, birth, death, divorce, rehab,
just events, jokes, parties, you name it. And I want
to call somebody who does a morning radio show in
the Quad Cities. It's called Dwyer and Michaels and they've
(02:52):
been on the air for as long as Jeff and
Jerre have been on the air. And they are huge
in the Quad Cities and they are great people. Bill Michaels,
who it's like almost midnight over there, I feel so
badis to get up and do morning show. But he
has formed, he had formed. He always knew Jerry because
(03:13):
we'd go to this morning show boot camp. We knew
morning radio shows from across the country just because they
did the same things that we did. And we love
these people. They formed a very beautiful bond at the
end of Jerry's life, and I want Bill to talk
about it. So I'm going to call him right now
before he goes to bed. I'm sure he's in bed.
(03:34):
This is Bill Michaels from Dwyer and Michaels and I'm
on the road cast a Bill.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
Hello, Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
I was just explaining Hi Bill, welcome to Loria Keane
after Dark.
Speaker 5 (03:48):
Hi Bill, So I'm good.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Were I was just explaining what you do, how we
know you, how you have to get up in like
three hours and during the fors fanda. But Bill from
Dry and Michael's super long time, very successful show in
the Quad Cities. Hilarious guy, great person, and I absolutely
(04:15):
you were one of the people who was very very
very affected by Jerry's death, like in a very profound way.
And I want you to tell people about your relationship
in the last year and a half.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Well, yeah, I knew about Jerry's medical situation, and my
wife and I had all three of our kids some
really serious medical situations that we went through, And at
that time I had told him that my job was
(04:54):
I fell back on like Lama's class, to get to
get my wife distracted and and make it through this procedure.
And then it was my job to distract these little kids,
you know, in grade school, and they had spinal fusion
surgery and it's brutal, it's excruciatingly painful, not one, then two,
(05:16):
then three. So I kind of got could be pretty
good at this whole distracting thing. And I told Jerry
at the time, I was just beside myself with depression,
and all I did was I needed to come home
from work. I didn't want to think about radio. I
didn't want to think about this situation. I didn't want
(05:39):
to deal with family stuff. So I went back to
just building models. And it takes one hundred percent of
my focus just to do it the way I do it,
block everything out and I told this to Jerry and
he's what kind of models?
Speaker 2 (05:54):
First? Talk about?
Speaker 4 (05:55):
What kind of models? Oh okay, So it's not like
to to train stuff under the christ. This is like
I shoot for like museum quality. And I sent you
some pictures you can you can feel free to do
what you want with those. And I've been in magazines
and I have a couple of models and museums and
(06:19):
things like that. And Jerry knew about that, and we
would discuss it, but it was kind of low key
about it, you know, at boot camp and stuff, because
it's I don't know, it's just kind of nerdy, Like
it's not restoring a classic car. What do you do?
I build model railroad stuff. It's not really but it's
who I am and it's what I do, and and
(06:42):
and so then he told me, you know, I love
trains too. And part of our discussion, he's like, you
know what, when I get done with all of this
medical stuff, Pam and I are going to buy a
house in France and I'm going to build the biggest,
best model railroad you've ever heard of. I'm like, oh, yeah, well,
(07:02):
I tell you what, Jared, you got to start you
start out with a theme. You start out with an era,
and you start out with a location, whether it be
a real one or contrived, you know, dreamed up, and
you you know, start big and go down to a
granular level and get some focus. And at first he
(07:22):
didn't get it. He's like, yeah, and I want a
building like this, and then I want this, and I
want I'm like wait, wait, wait, wait, you got to
back up and get to where I you know, what
do you want? Do you want to do something out
in a forest like in a logging situation, or do
you want to do something in a in a city?
What is it? And I said, what I did was
(07:44):
there are architects who design train layouts, and you you
whole interview process and tell them everything, fill all up.
This forms paperwork and ask all kinds of questions and
it gives this architect, you know, a scope and where
to start. So Jerry's like, yeah, I know one I
(08:05):
talked to another one. Give me the name of your guy.
And he finally started to get it, and then it
was just off to the races. He knew what I
was doing. I just we when we would talk. You know,
it's a scary thing what he was going through. He's
on this list. He didn't know when he'd been close. Yeah, okay,
(08:28):
I didn't know if they're going to that route, but
I don't think it's a secret. But you get so
close and then it would fall through. And he remained
positive for the most part. But he've been talking to him,
I think you could kind of tell it was taxing
on him. It would just what he would have to
(08:49):
go through. You know, he's tethered to that machine, couldn't
be away from home for forty eight hours or more.
So trips were limited, he couldn't travel, and it's you know,
it's a burden, it's it's no way to live. So
my my whole thought process and talking to him was
let we called it, Jerry two point zero, just go
(09:11):
to that place after this is all done, because it's
gonna happen and you're gonna feel better, You're gonna feel younger,
and and yeah, sure, He's like, would you I would
be honored to have one of these models? Do you
sell them? And I'm like, you know what, Jerry, You've
done so much for us me and my partner. I
would do any what do you want? Let's do this so.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
And he wasn't just saying that. When Jerry says something,
he means it.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
The phone had ring, and he's like, hey, sugar Tips,
what are you doing? And that's what he was. I'm
looking at all those things. Can I say that I
was just looking over the thing? Hey, we did give
me your email address. Hey, so he said. I was
talking to Pam And here's what we decided. Why don't
(09:59):
we get this and we're going to pick out this place.
She's going to have an art studio in one part
of the house. We'll have the regular house. And I've
got this building all planned out. And when we get
this done, I'm going to fly you and your wife
over and you and I are going to do trains.
The girls are going to go shopping and doesn't that
sound like fun? And I'm like, yeah, absolutely. And I
(10:20):
talked to our friend Jeff and I'm telling them all this.
I'm like, yes, I think he really needs it. You know,
Jeffy that last you better pack your bag, Belie. Does
he means it? And he did. But the whole thing
was live after this, you know, dark time Jerry two
(10:42):
point zero and it got to the point where he
was texting me and calling He's like, hey, I need
to run this by you. What do you think? And
he's like, could we do something like we would call
it Pam's Bakery and my wife's name is Donna, and
then Donna's Travel Agency, and Bill's Train Emporium and Bill
(11:03):
and Jerry's the Kitchen Post or something like that. And
I said, Yep, you're totally getting it. And then you
take it a step further. You could do named streets,
you know, Elliott and Saint James Place or anything like that. Absolutely,
we could build, you know, a pet rescue building, whatever
you want. And he just bought into that and was
(11:27):
living there post surgery, you know, recovered, and the last
time I talked to him, it was the day after
Christmas and he was really depressed. He's like, you know,
the doctors didn't tell me that when this happens, you know,
part of the healing process is you get really depressed.
(11:48):
And I'd never heard of like this, And I said,
come on, Jary, we got a railroad to build. Let's
you know, Yeah, you're right, You're right. And then he's like,
you know what, you and I are going to be neighbors.
I just decided right now when this is done. You're
going to move to France next to me. We're going
to run trains all day. And at that point I
didn't care. Just whatever, Jared, I will do what I knew.
(12:10):
I over committed. I could never build as many models
that as he was needed for this thing and what
he had in mind. And our goal is going to
be to have it featured in Model Railroader magazine. I
didn't have the heart to tell him that they're not
going to be publishing the magazine by the time we
would even start this thing. But who cares cheap the
focus on anything other than this this period in his life?
Speaker 2 (12:36):
And tell what about the tell us about the last
handwritten Jerry was the last person to handwrite notes and mail.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
Them every phone conversation. Every time I would get a
couple days later in the mail. You know, I think
the world of you. You're a bright light in this world.
Don't you ever forget that from somebody who loves you, Jerry,
I got every single one of them, you know, some
of them start, Hey, sugar tits.
Speaker 6 (13:06):
You know who this is.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
And at some point he screwed up and he I
don't know, he lost my phone number or something, and
he texted me. He's like, hey, is this your new
number or is this your old number? And I'm like,
what are you talking about. He's like, well, Tommy gave
me your new number. And I'm like, what number was it.
(13:28):
He's like, I don't know. It just rang and rang
and rang and rang. So I called it that number
later that night and Tommy gave him the number. It
was a strip club and I can't Jerry. I'm like,
he's like, yeah, that's okay. That sounds like Tommy. Oh
(13:50):
good good.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Oh my god. But no, But you know what, I
want to tell you something real quick on that note,
when when the Internet first came, when we first got
like a website, it was he got Jeff and Jered
dot com. But a lot of people he'd liked to
be called Jerry, you know, in real life, that was
his name, So people would put in Jeff and Jerry
(14:12):
dot com. It was like these two naked dudes that
were just like posing with their dicks out, like just
like and so someone who were just looking up Jeff
and Jerry would be like, oh my god, these are them.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
It was absolutely gosh.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
But you know what you build that railroad Bill, I
know it's a Lot's the thing.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
Here's the thing I have. He never got to the
point of specifics enough as to what was gonna happen.
I don't know where he was at with contacting and
going forward with one of the architects some of our
last few texts. I sent them a list of places
that had buildings that would fit. I said, I want
(15:02):
you to go through check these off, one, two, three, four, five,
whatever you like, I'll order them, get going on them.
And you know, that was December twenty sixth, and I
was starting to I know, but I do have an idea,
and I don't want to share too much, but you'll
you'll see. And actually you inspired me when you said
(15:25):
you have to build it. Well, that's a tall order.
I mean, it's it's something that takes years and years
and years and years, and it was his vision and
I don't really fully have it, but I do have
an idea and I'll share that with you next month.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
You know what, Bill, But Jerry is that he's such
a force and such a he was such a full
of such an energetic, incredible force of nature that he
is going to send you signs like you were going
to get signs at the walls.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
I well, I read the note that Pam sent out,
and just first, you know, you can't reach out to
somebody who's gone through something like that, and hey, how
are you doing? What are they supposed to fail? Great?
Just great, there's you know. So I didn't say that.
(16:22):
I said, I just wanted to send you a hug
from Iowa and a little progress report. I read and
re read the note that you sent out, and here's
how we're doing. I quiz my wife, and I can report.
Our waitress from breakfast was Christina. At lunch Matthew with
(16:45):
Tony helping him fill our drink glasses. And then yet
this past morning it was Alyssa. And I ran down
because that was one of the things that Jerry would
pay attention to, the names of waiters and waitresses. And
I sent that to Pam, and I said, and there
was another one. I got a message from somebody. I
(17:07):
never knew your friend, Jerry, but I read what you
wrote about him, and I can tell it's a giant
loss for everybody. And there's Pam calls him a unicorn.
And I've never heard anybody referred to as a person
that as a unicorn. But there really isn't another another Jerry.
(17:28):
You talk to him. And here's what I noticed when
we first met those guys, both Jeff and Jerr when
and we're pip Squeaks in Davenport, Iowa. But when you
talk to them, their eye they look you in the
eye as you're talking to them. Their eyes aren't darting
around the room looking for somebody heavier than you. They're listing,
(17:51):
and they're engaged in you know, hey, come on, let's
finish this conversation at the bar. Buy me a Sam Adams,
come on, let you know. I mean, he was fully engaged.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
I guess never entered the room, ego never.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
Entered And for a while I thought, Rin, this is
he's so over the top with this, and then I
finally realized that's just how he is with everybody. It
can't I've never met anybody like that, and I'm just
so thankful to have you guys. You know, Tommy and
(18:29):
I are pretty good friends. I talked to Laura a
lot it and that was so nice to you to call,
because obviously Jeff must have told you. I lost it.
I was not expecting this news, and in fact, I
never considered that. I told him that the worst is
behind you, Jared, come on, let's go two point Oh
we got a railroad to build all the time. And yeah,
(18:50):
it's he's a one of a kind. And they broke
the mold with Jerry, for sure.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
He did. And Bill, you are some of that. I
think was his closest confident in the end, to be honest,
I mean, someone from Afar, but someone's so close and
you're you're a lot like him in that, in that
loving space. So thank you for loving him so much.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
I almost felt like I was intruding, you know, but
he it was just something that I did, something that
he did, and it was a neat, neat experience. Well yeah,
you're not. I wish we didn't have this outcome, but
(19:37):
I'm sure thankful for the all the lessons that he
gave me and all the gosh we talked about. You know,
he was pretty shrewd business guy. Oh did you know
he played the drums?
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Oh yeah, I'm Italian and he you know, he wanted
to learn. He still had something. He was like Frank Sinatra.
He was like a Frank Sinatra, like bigger than life person.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
He said, I'll tell you learned to speak French tape
so that you guys could be fluent when you come
to visits, of course.
Speaker 7 (20:12):
But.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
Yeah, I just love him and the things that he
taught us about forget radio, just about being a good person,
about he always seemed to want to He was curious
about stuff. He was way different than me. You know,
I'm a Catholic and he's a Buddhist and I'm a
(20:36):
meat and potatoes Midwesterner and he's a vegetarian. That didn't
bother him one bit. There was more we had in
common than what was different. Yeah, and he was the
one who who taught me, you know, and how it's
difficult to think, like in the business we're in, you
got to manage your partnership kind of like managing a marriage.
(21:00):
And as things go wrong between the morning show, well
there's more than just two guys fighting. It's Laura's job,
Tommy's job, Randy's job, the salespeople, the company. It's a
spiral effect. So, you know, he said, you got to
learn to celebrate your differences. You're telling me all these
things you want Greg to be more like you. That'd
(21:21):
be boring because we can't stand just one of either
one of you, so we couldn't have.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Who all right? And Bill, Bill Dwyre and Michaels. Where
can people hear you tomorrow morning in like three hours?
Speaker 4 (21:37):
Wait, it's fine anytimes. Two dorks dot Com to dorks okay,
two doors dot com and it's streaming there and all
over the internet and everywhere else.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Dwire and Michael's Quad City. You guys have been on
the air thirty.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
Years now, thirty yeah, it'll be thirty five years. We
met college.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
Are hysterical, they are there are they're Jeff and Jerr
like I mean, you're very much like what we've gone
along so well.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
And they were our models. They were the templates that
we knew we wanted to be like you know so
but the gifts that he gave us we got forever,
you know. And he was that I knew he was
the dad of your show.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
You know, he's liked he'd like to be known as
the big brother.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
I think is that what it was?
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Well, I don't know, I'm guessing, but you know what
everything you said was so right on, And I know
you're still you're hurting is really hard and I'm I
mean and all of us, you.
Speaker 4 (22:46):
Know, hold it together, just like you are. And I
text Flaura every so often just you know.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
But I'm wearing my cruiseled shirt right now and it's
still are you Eh, that's not the one you misspelled?
Speaker 7 (23:04):
You spelled what.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
Did you call it? Mordy Krue.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Concerts we went to, and I said, I spelled Motley
Crue wrong, because what is that I could tribute or anyway? Bill,
I feel bad. I need you go to bed, Go
to bed.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
I know that's fine. I appreciate you to call. I
love you too. And if anybody ever wondered if what
Jerry was really like, take it from a little tip
squeak in Davenport, Iowa. He made me feel just as
big as if he were talking to Pavaratti or Sinatra
(23:43):
or whatever. And it's just it's a gift and it's
I'm so blessed and thankful to have had him in
my life. And you guys and Jeff and Tommy and
that I was nervous to meet those guys, Like, it's fine,
(24:05):
it's fine.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Were you univers to meet me?
Speaker 4 (24:09):
No, not at all, of course not. No. I hadn't
learned that yet. I'm like, yeah, where's your Yes?
Speaker 2 (24:17):
Good to see you that that ship that's on the
show too, whatever the cruise loot anyway, Oh gosh, Bill,
thank you and so well said everything you said and
I love you and we'll talk. I will text you tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
Okay, appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Thanks, all right, have a good show tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
Okay, thanks, bye bye.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
Now I want yeah, I wanted you to hear from
somebody who he touched from Afar really close. Now we're
gonna call Tommy real quick. Okay, this is not gonna
go well, I don't think because Tommy was like, I'm tired.
Can we do it tomorrow. I'm like, no, but let's
see if he answers.
Speaker 5 (25:06):
Yay, yay, yay, yay.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Okay. Hi Tommy, you're on Laura Kane after dark.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
Good morning.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
I know you're tired when I asked you like three
hours ago. Oh all right, I just want you to
talk a little bit about how you feel about Jerry
and how you doing, Tommy. How are you doing.
Speaker 6 (25:32):
I'm doing I'm doing great, you know.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
You know.
Speaker 6 (25:35):
All I'm doing is thinking about Jerry. Along with all
of us here in San Diego, especially all of us
that have been on the show and gone through the show.
And he's influenced so many of us. You know, yes,
I cried when I got that phone call, and I
remember calling you and hearing your tears. But you know,
(25:58):
right now I'm kind of feeling proud to be associated
with that guy, you know, to be associated with Jerry
and with you. I mean, you know, we haven't been
together with Jerry since twenty fifteen, and it's what twenty
twenty six, at eleven years and people are still talking
(26:22):
about it, and I'm very proud. And you know, when
I think of Jerry, I mean he was the dad
of the show, as you know, and you know, we
we did some great We did some great things in
San Diego. And I always tell people the Jeff and
Gers Showgram. Yes, Jeff and jer that's two people, but
(26:45):
it wasn't a duo. And the Jeff Anders Showgram, you know,
it ended with six of us, you know, Jeff, Jare, Tommy, Laura,
Emily and Randy. It wasn't even an ensemble. The Jeff
and Gers Showgram was with San Diego because it was
listener based. Everything we did, you know, we needed our
(27:07):
listeners to be there for us, from the you know,
human flags to that human lightning bolt to raising money.
If we needed five thousand people to show up to
outline a human flag, you know, that's the very least
we needed was five thousand people. What fifty sixty thousand
(27:28):
people showed up. I mean, we're we're we're very very
blessed and lucky to be on the radio when we were,
because I don't think a great morning show today could
come close to what we did, not you know, because
of talent, but because of the times. I mean, we
(27:50):
were very lucky that everyone was listening. You know, now
you have choices to listen to a zillion different things,
but back then was the radio.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
You know what Jerry at this day and age, would
make it a way that he was a leader. He
was like an innovator. He would make things larger than life.
So I think that even if we were still on
the radio, we would be in other aspects, in other ways.
(28:23):
He'd make it bigger. He'd make it better, of course,
with your your help, I mean you would do all
the work. He'd have the idea.
Speaker 6 (28:33):
Well, I was thinking about that, you know, when he
had an idea, I was so young in green but
hungry that I didn't know what he was asking was
kind of impossible, you know, he was always asking, you know, hey,
we need a lot of people to show up, and
(28:55):
we made it happen because we didn't know any better.
You know, we didn't stop ourselves by saying, the guy's
lost his mind. There's no way we were so we need.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Johnny Carson on on the air the last day of
his show and look what you did.
Speaker 6 (29:12):
Yeah, well, but we were a team and you know,
led by led by Jerry. That's accurate. You know, Jeff
was a huge part of the show, just as much
as Jerry. But you know, Jeff would be the very
first one to say Jerry led the Jeff Jerry S program.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Now I know that Jerry. He didn't like funerals. He
didn't like the thought of like death, or wearing black
or people being sad. So is there something or a
memory that you think about Jerry that just makes you
laugh that you can think of off at the top
of your head, something that happened that like one of
(29:52):
the shows an.
Speaker 6 (29:54):
Instance, Yes, when the microphones were off, I mean we were,
we were we were a great morning radio show when
the mics were on. The microphones, Yeah, but when the
microphones were on we were a great show, but when
the microphones were off, we were even better. And uh
(30:15):
and and you know my favorite part, you know, when
we were in that limousine going to the Christmas party,
or when we were at the Christmas parties that we
had at Claim Jumper at Rossamant Center. Those were our
favorite times because it was just us and we would uh,
you know, he would celebrate us. That's where that's when
(30:36):
Jeff and Jerry celebrated everyone that was, you know, part
of the show. And what I learned from Jerry was
how to tip. I think I I think I tip
well because I'm trying to imitate Jerry. And uh and
I loved the fact that when we were at those little,
(30:58):
you know, private Christmas parties making noise and having fun,
he took care of all the tables that were near
us that we may.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Have disturbed, that we definitely disturbed. He bought that lunch
for every like almost the whole restaurant because he was
that kind of a person.
Speaker 4 (31:15):
Well we were.
Speaker 6 (31:16):
You know, Yes, I cried just like you did. But
right now I'm kind of just proud. I'm proud to
you know, be associated with you, you know, and I'm
proud to be associated with the Jeff and Jerry Shrogrim
and and it's kind of cool that people are are
(31:38):
talking about it, you know, sadly because Jerry passed away,
but actually he's living on, you know, his name is
his name lives on and it is so and it's
kind of a beautiful thing.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
It is. Well, And are you okay, Tommy? I mean
health wise. I didn't like that post. I didn't like
seeing it.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
But I was, you know, in the hospital.
Speaker 6 (32:07):
And I was in the hospital. But you know what
this is about Jerry?
Speaker 2 (32:11):
Maybe I know, but.
Speaker 6 (32:14):
Eric, if you and Eric want me back to talk
about that, that we could do that in a couple
of weeks. Right now, it's all about Jerry, and you know,
I'm obviously talking about him. So I'm feeling really well
and I'm feeling great and I'm proud.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Well, Tommy, I love you more than anything, and I.
Speaker 6 (32:35):
Do you love me more on Eric?
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Gosh, you know what you know? Tonight? Yes I do,
because you need to hear that tonight.
Speaker 6 (32:49):
So no, Eric, we you and Eric are kicking butt.
And I'm proud of you.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
When I You're my brother, Tommy, and you always will be.
And you're You're one of the best people I've ever
known in my entire life and ever will and so
I love you, and I'm sorry, but we lost our
sweet Jerry.
Speaker 6 (33:10):
God bless Jerry.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
God Bless Jerry. God bless Jerry. Hey, good night, Tommy, Right,
good night, good night, take care of yourself.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
Tell me.
Speaker 7 (33:19):
So.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
A lot of people asked me, Oh, wait, let's talk.
Let's call Randy real quick, because we gotta get Randy's
because I want to I want to hear We got
to hear a Randy laugh.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
Oh I got a dad joke for Randy. Oh okay, yeah,
because it's not going to make you laugh.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
No. No, we're kind of doing a tribute for Jerry Sezak,
who passed away sudden, unexpectedly, too young, with so many
more plans leaven why had his wife of thirty four years.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
Hello, Randy, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
Welcome to the Laura King after a Dark podcast. I'm
sorry recalling so late, but that's all right. We got
off the phone with Bill Michaels and and then Tommy
and I want to know, how are you doing.
Speaker 7 (34:18):
I'm okay, I'm still kind of wrapping my head around it.
You know, it just seems kind of surreal to me.
You know, I know that he's in heaven and all that,
but it's just so you know, he was such a
force in nature, you know, and you just have that
absence in near life, you know. It's just it takes
some getting used to.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
I think, Randy, you know what I really need. I
kind of had like a little mini panic attack, mental
breakdown yesterday, because you know how grief hits you in
in different ways and at different times, you know. And
what I would love is for you to give me
one of your favorite funniest memories of Jerry, just so
(35:02):
I can hear you laugh.
Speaker 7 (35:05):
Okay, now you know about this, but but it's probably
one that sticks out my mind more than any there's
there's always obviously it's been a bunch, but what really
stands out in my mind is you remember a segment
we used to do called Morning Show Pyramid.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Yes, the game, Yes, Yeah.
Speaker 7 (35:29):
And what happens is is Jerry would write out He'd
make me the booth announcer. You know, obviously I have
a booth announcer's voice, yeah, right, which I think was
the point, right. He would always write out my script
and then just before I mean we're on the air,
and he would say, Okay, here you go. So I
(35:51):
didn't have time to see it ahead of time, and
so you know, they start the music, starts the segment,
and I go ahead and I and I start reading it. Now,
I had just started out radio not long after that,
maybe you know, a few years, but not much, so
I was pretty gullible, you know.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
So I know what you're going to say.
Speaker 7 (36:18):
Now, can't But before I go any farther, can I
say what was on the on the.
Speaker 6 (36:25):
Okay?
Speaker 7 (36:26):
So I'm reading the script and Jerry always, even years
after that, would always put something in the script that
he would think I wouldn't read it, just to make
me laughing, to break my composure.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
You weren't supposed to read it on there is you're
inside note.
Speaker 6 (36:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (36:50):
So I get to that part and I had just
introduced the players in the game, and then right after that,
in a big announcer's voice, I say, blow me on
the air. No, And later on I thought, you know,
(37:13):
I was going to be fired or something, you know,
because that's like a major FCC.
Speaker 8 (37:18):
No.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
No, I didn't know that.
Speaker 7 (37:20):
At the time, but I, in a big, huge announcer's voice,
you know. And then right after that, everybody just lost composure.
And I remember looking over at Jerry and I think
of everybody in there. Tommy was trying to get, you know,
some composure and everybody get the segment going, but Jerry
(37:43):
just completely completely lost it. And I remember looking at
him and he had his head on the counter in
the studio and he lifts his head up and I
swear snot was running down his notes.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
On the counter, and I laughed that hard in my life.
Speaker 7 (38:03):
And you're right, I have never ever seen him laugh
that hard ever. And you know, I I was listening
to it, you know, just today because I have it
on my phone. But and it just brought back so many,
you know, great memories and stuff. And I remember thinking,
(38:23):
you know that I know I'm going to see him again,
you know, and and I know he's in heaven, and
I know he's you know, with every fiber of my being.
You know, I know that he's happy and he's going
to be and he's okay, and you know, I just
it's like I said, he was just such a force
(38:45):
of nature, so big, you know, such a big personality
and a great person and and you know, it's it's
hard to believe that he's just not around anymore. But
and you're right, Laura, it's like the those feelings kind
of hits you in waves. You know, it's like there's
kind of a lull and you kind of feel like
(39:05):
you're catching your breath a little bit, and then it
kind of hits you again, or you think is something
that you know that was a great experience, you know
that you had with him, and you know, it's just
it's just weird. You know, it's hard, and it's it's
it's it's it's just well.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
In honor of Jerry, I'm wearing a shirt that says
cru slut because we want to see Motley Crue like
on several occasions. And I remember one time he loved
music and he loved his rock and roll so much.
I remember it was raining and it was outside at
North Island Credit Union Amphitheater, which was once Cores, and
(39:51):
it was pouring down rain and I remember looking over
at Jerry and the joy and that just the incredible
and he was just so into the music and I
just was like, wow, that he isn't this is a
person who is enjoying himself to the fullest.
Speaker 7 (40:10):
I mean know, yeah, it's funny you mentioned that. You know,
you see that that emotion in him, the joy in him.
I remember him listening to you know songs, you know,
and crying because it was touching him so much.
Speaker 4 (40:26):
You know, he he, he was.
Speaker 7 (40:29):
Just And when Jerry, when Jerry says he's your friend
and that he loves you, you know, he means it,
you know, through thick and thin. You know, it's it's
you know, you're in for life.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
Did I tell you the last text that I got
from him?
Speaker 4 (40:47):
Uh? Huh.
Speaker 2 (40:48):
Okay, So about six years ago, we went to BEMI's
cafe for lunch and we walked outside and on the
ground we both looked down at the same time, and
on the sidewalk was this rubber band and the way
that it was twisted, it looked like balls, a dick
(41:09):
with a head, I mean perfectly, this rubber band was
twisted and we were dying, we were laughing so hard,
and we took a picture of it.
Speaker 4 (41:18):
Yeah, so like.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
Every other month, he'll just send me a picture of
that rubber band of the dick and balls.
Speaker 4 (41:26):
That's so Jerry, that is so scary.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
He was so I mean, and then I got a
note just like a month ago, just saying I just
want you to know that I love you and I
think you're so talented and you are like love Jerry.
That's it on the same Jerry note cards, you know,
the note cards we're.
Speaker 7 (41:45):
Talking about, yep, and his signature and everything.
Speaker 2 (41:48):
Yeah. Well, I'm happy that you have such a strong faith, Randy,
that you can see beyond and you know that there
is a beyond and that he's there and he's happy
frolicking with animals with Boodo by a side. Yeah, And
and I know how much you loved him, and I
(42:09):
just wanted you to to be hones with us to
talk about him.
Speaker 7 (42:13):
Well, I appreciate it, and it helps to talk to
you guys about it too.
Speaker 4 (42:17):
You know.
Speaker 6 (42:17):
It's just.
Speaker 7 (42:19):
You know, you know, I appreciate that, and the same
you know, same goes for you guys too. You know.
I just you know, you have to believe that you know,
he's he's he's in heaven, you know. I mean, it's
just in my fiber of.
Speaker 4 (42:38):
My being, you know. I just know that.
Speaker 7 (42:41):
I know, Yeah, And it helps me when those times,
those times come, you know, where I'm trying to process
all this, you know. Yeah, and we'll see each other again.
Speaker 2 (42:54):
Yeah, we will. We definitely will. There's no way that
energy disappeared.
Speaker 7 (43:01):
God put him on this earth for a reason.
Speaker 2 (43:04):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 7 (43:05):
Yes, and you know we got to a front row seat.
Speaker 4 (43:09):
Oh you know, to to all of it.
Speaker 7 (43:13):
And I wouldn't trade it for anything. You know, I've
because of you, guys, I've had. I had almost twenty
four years of something I wouldn't trade, you know, something
that I just appreciate every day.
Speaker 2 (43:31):
Still I had twenty seven but whatever with that?
Speaker 7 (43:36):
Oh okay, now, who's count But I know, I guess
you showed me Randy. Now I see what you work
with Eric.
Speaker 5 (43:49):
Now he oh, I know. And listen.
Speaker 3 (43:52):
I Laura said she wanted to hear you laugh, and
I was like, oh, well listen, I can do that
in one second.
Speaker 2 (44:00):
There we go.
Speaker 5 (44:00):
I can do that in one note.
Speaker 3 (44:02):
Okay, Randy, I have a dad joke for you. Okay,
And I know that Laura loves dad jokes more than anything,
so so Randy, buckle up. Yeah, Randy, what did the
janitor say when he jumped out of the closet.
Speaker 5 (44:24):
Supplies?
Speaker 2 (44:30):
Brandy? No, I does not deserve that. I'm not allowed.
Speaker 3 (44:40):
Oh my god, Rand God, well, did you just come
on all the time?
Speaker 5 (44:47):
I swear I was.
Speaker 3 (44:50):
I was looking the other day when I when I
saw the news, I was looking back because I have
so many fond memories of just being on the show
and doing Hollywood Report and saying things that I shouldn't
have said. And when I was looking back, and when
you were on the show, when we were in the
studio and you did something to my you either waxed
(45:14):
my eyebrow or did remember that beauty product that I
was Oh it was, did you?
Speaker 5 (45:23):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (45:24):
Oh my god, did he take your whole library?
Speaker 4 (45:28):
No?
Speaker 3 (45:28):
I could never be mad at you, but oh it
hurts so bad. I saw stars. Oh my god, it
was so funny.
Speaker 5 (45:38):
Something.
Speaker 2 (45:39):
Oh well that okay, that is bizarre, but it's amazing.
Speaker 5 (45:43):
It wasn't my It wasn't my pubic mound.
Speaker 7 (45:46):
No, and I wouldn't get anywhere.
Speaker 2 (45:48):
Near Oh my god, dude, you see his chest hair,
it's huge room. Well you do look, this is exactly
what Jerry.
Speaker 5 (46:02):
I guess Laura is going to have to do it then?
Speaker 2 (46:04):
Oh hell, yah god, you know, Jerry would want us
to laugh. He would definitely want us to keep laughing,
and this is what it's all about. And Randy, thank
you so much. I know you're you're very busy Dad
and I and I love you more than anything. And
I'll call you tomorrow the next day.
Speaker 8 (46:25):
Okay, I love you, thank you, Okay, bye, And you
know that's all.
Speaker 2 (46:36):
That's all, you know. I just wanted to say that
I'm really going to pay attention because I heard that
when somebody passes, somebody is forceful as Jerry. He's going
to leave me signs he's gonna leave you, sign he's
going to leave. All you have to do I heard
is ask your loved one who has passed for a
(47:00):
certain be specific. Don't go send me a sign, say
I want Jerry, send me a sign in the form
of an animal. Jerry, send me a sign in the
color yellow. And I bet we just get signs. We
loved Breaking Bad. We got to go to the Breaking
(47:20):
Bad finale at the Hollywood Cemetery together. He would send me.
We had the same exact taste in TV shows and movies,
and that man made me laugh harder than anybody on
this planet. We cried, we laughed. I sat next to
(47:42):
him for twenty seven years in an intimate setting for
five hours a day. I spent more time with him
than I did with my husband intimately, not like intimately intinally,
but you know what I mean. And boy, I just
am trying to think of him in a green pasture
with all the creatures, just frolicking and loving on them
(48:02):
all and drinking his favorite beer. And my motto is
w W JD what would Jerry do? And I'm going
to do things to the fullest and I'm not going
to half ass anything anymore, and I'm going to do
things right because that's the way Jerry would do it. Absolutely,
And Jerry, we love you, we miss you, and we
(48:24):
know you're still around, and we're going to try to
stay smiling and happy when we think of you, and
we love you in This podcast is dedicated to Jerry Czac,
a one of a kind unicorn is he has been
referred to as. And anyway, Claire, I know we're moving
(48:48):
on to a different subject because I really wanted you
to talk about this thing you wanted to because I
wanted we wanted to go to this and then and
then you we're gonna talk about the Golden Globes real quick, Okay,
this is something I wanted to go to forever and
tell me about the.
Speaker 9 (49:06):
Oddities and Curiosities expo.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
And where was it at?
Speaker 9 (49:10):
Was at the Dummer fair Grounds and like one of
the big convention halls.
Speaker 2 (49:15):
Yes, it's a bunch of booths set up of.
Speaker 9 (49:17):
People selling oddities and curiosities like so, a lot of taxidermy,
a lot of like dead butterflies and shadow boxes, a
lot of like antique things, like old antique kind of
spooky things. Yes, jars, a lot of jars of things,
a lot of spooky haunted things. Photos, photos, old photos.
(49:42):
I made several purchases.
Speaker 2 (49:43):
What did you buy?
Speaker 9 (49:45):
I bought ear rings made out of real fossils, which
really cool.
Speaker 4 (49:52):
Camera.
Speaker 2 (49:54):
Uh, it's that's like a dinosaur fossil. No, it's or
just like a fossil a shell. Cool.
Speaker 9 (50:03):
But the most exciting I bought some photoprints which I
can't show on YouTube.
Speaker 2 (50:09):
Why are they naughty? Yes? Okay, why are they are?
Are they add oddly naughty?
Speaker 9 (50:15):
They're just kind of spooky naked ladies. Okay, there's spooky
black and white naked lady who I kind of like that.
But the most notable and the most expensive thing I
got was something I've wanted for years, which is there's
this guy his name is Belmont Low and he uh
turns blood into.
Speaker 2 (50:33):
Jewelry and that kind of thing.
Speaker 9 (50:36):
And so they very nice lady took my blood and
he's going to turn it into a ring for me.
Oh the stone is my blood. So you've got like, yeah,
you got like bottom it's like a lady.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
That's so trained, nurse lady. Was it really crowded with
like a lot of like cool looking people.
Speaker 9 (51:01):
Yeah, yeah, incredible people watching, a lot of oh, alternative people.
Speaker 2 (51:07):
How much? I mean, like, what's the what's the rain?
Just give me a rain?
Speaker 9 (51:12):
It's four hundred dollars.
Speaker 4 (51:14):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (51:14):
Well, there's a lot that goes into It's a.
Speaker 9 (51:16):
Lot that goes into it. So I'm gonna get I'm
not gonna get it for two to three months because
he The hardest part about it is getting the blood
because like he'll do it remotely, but then you have
to mail you You have to mail him your blood,
which is like hard for a lot of people. I
don't know how you to acquire my own blood safely,
you know what I mean? Professional? And so you could
just sign up and took a bunch of people's blood
(51:38):
and he's gonna turn them all. And the weird thing
about it is, when you're doing this consent forms, there's
a check yes or no box on can I keep
the leftover blood and turn it into other jewelry for
other people? And because I did, I did consent to that, just.
Speaker 2 (51:52):
Like an Oregon donor, you're gonna consensu it.
Speaker 9 (51:54):
Yeah, so you can also buy just like blood stuff
that's random people's blood. My blood is going to be
out there maybe if he has extra in you know,
someone's necklace, or he does D and D dice, he
does like Nike fandles, he does all sorts of stuff.
Speaker 2 (52:11):
Oh wow, that's how many hours did you spend there?
Oh my gosh, that's so up your alley. But it's
kind of about my alley too. Oh that's so cool.
Speaker 3 (52:23):
On what to kind of you know, piggyback piggyback, Claire said,
there is a jewelry company that does something else.
Speaker 5 (52:32):
Oh, yes, that's not with your blood.
Speaker 9 (52:34):
Though it's with a different secretion.
Speaker 5 (52:36):
It's with another bodily function.
Speaker 2 (52:38):
No, you're not talking about.
Speaker 3 (52:40):
It's called Jizzy Jewelry loricane, and you can in a
cup and send it in and they make your chisen
to a piece of jewelry. Okay, a lovely white gold
ring right there.
Speaker 2 (52:55):
It's actually very beautiful and milky white. Whoa, So that
could be like your boyfriend's you know what?
Speaker 5 (53:02):
Yeah, you can have it.
Speaker 2 (53:05):
With you always. Can You imagine the company talk about
a pearl necklace the workshop, they're like working, Oh my gosh, wow,
well I have ashes. I have a ring with ashes
from Doune Jewelry. This this is really jizzy jewelry.
Speaker 5 (53:21):
Wow, jizzy jewelry.
Speaker 2 (53:23):
All right, cue the double D music. We're going to
do a quick rundown.
Speaker 5 (53:27):
We're going to do it super quick, and then I'm
going to talk about my birthday weekends.

it was a blast.

worst dress really really quick. You guys can google it.
I took a bunch of photos, but we just don't
have time to show him. So my best dress were
Amanda Seyfried in Versace, Jennifer Lopez, and Stephanie Roland. The
top half great, the bottom half I don't even know
how a date no, okay, well, her date was her body.
(56:06):
Her body is sick. Her body was revenge body, Oh
my god, and the makeup everything she looked great. I
just don't know how she even walked in that dress.
Kate Hudson looked amazing in Ormani. She was probably my
favorite of the entire night. Really, she looked beautiful. Tessa
Thompson and Balenciaga, Michael B. Jordan and Prada, Zoe Kravitz
(56:26):
in Saint Laurent, Pamela Anderson.
Speaker 2 (56:29):

No, and she looked beautiful, didn't. I don't know who
it was that she was wearing, but she looked great.
Miley Cyrus in Saint Laurent, Emily Blunt in Louis Vatan,
which was the only Louis Vatan outfit that I liked
the entire night. Everything else looked horrible, and Coleman Domingo

Rose Byrne and Chanel. She looked like a mother of
the bride. I didn't like anything about it. Jesse Buckley
