Get Hey, good morning and welcome into the radio show.
It is Chucking back in the Morning's here on a
(01:18):
Monday Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. As we get
started here on this Monday morning. All sorts of things
playing for you, my goodness, A load of sports information
that we have to deal with here today, sift through
and make sense of, from the National Football League to
the wacky college football world. We even have baseball to
(01:42):
discuss today. So we welcome in you into the show.
Ashley Ryan is here, my name is Chuck Powell, and
Bucky Jacobson is back this morning. How was the trip?
Speaker 1 (01:50):
It was awesome and I'm still in recovery mode. If
that tells you how awesome it was. I mean, I'm
good to go now. I'm not gonna lie the flight backs.
I was not feeling all that great. Not a ton
of sleep. I think I logged on for one seventeen
hour drinking shift.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Oh wow, that involved yeah a lot.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Somebody's got to do it, Yeah exactly, somebody had to
do it. And yeah, we're just fifty after all. I mean,
why wouldn't you just totally get after it when you're
fifty years old?
Speaker 2 (02:17):
But it was it was twenty one, Is that what
they you know?
Speaker 1 (02:22):
I didn't act like I was twenty one, but I
acted closer to twenty one than I did to fifty.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
I'll tell you that, well, yeah, I know what they
are always right whoever they are.
Speaker 7 (02:31):
Yeah, yeah, so would everyone keep talking about all the
things they say?
Speaker 3 (02:35):
I know they are onto something. Yeah, that's what those
people are. Well, we are back together, and man, there
is a lot to dive into. And so normally we
could spend like ten minutes here trying to figure out
exactly what Bucky did right or wrong on his trip,
but we should probably dive into the football because the
(02:56):
Seattle Seahawks will start with them, and certainly we have
our big hitters coming on later on in the program.
Mike Holmgren and Hugh Mellan will both be joining us
from eight to ten o'clock here today. Greg Bell will
not be with us today. We got a special guest
coming your way at seven oh five because there happens
to be another monster story that we're dealing with here
(03:18):
on this Monday morning. But let's go ahead and start
with the Seattle Seahawks thirty seven nine winners over the
Atlanta Falcons yesterday, a game that at halftime was tied
at six. I mean, if you would have seen that,
just a final score, like you had to go run
errands or go on a seventeen hour drinking binge. You
(03:39):
know something I'm just bringing up off the top of
my head randomly, and you would have got at the
end of it and somebody said, ah Seahawks won thirty
seven to nine over the Atlanta Falcons, Like, oh gosh,
what happened there? You probably would have never guessed that
at halftime the score would be six to six, But
that's exactly what the case was. And it even got
(04:00):
to the point where I'm like, man, it's like three
and a half games where the offense hasn't been what
the offense was at the start of the season, And
I'm sitting here jotting down possible topics for Monday morning,
and I'm thinking, has the league figured out Clint Kubiak's
offense was going to come first to mine? But Rashid
(04:20):
Shahid returns a kick to start the second half, and
then the next thing, you know, the Seahawks can do
no wrong. It's just chunk play after chunk play. The
Falcons can't do anything on the offensive side of the ball.
And we had a game that was over by late
third quarter, and it was then just a matter of
getting through it without getting anybody hurt. That's what it
(04:41):
turned out to be. Six to six at halftime, before
the third quarter comes to a close. Bring in Drew Locke, yep,
beinge everybody, wrap everybody and spend bubble wrap, because this
thing is done. The Falcons are cooked.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
Well.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
It's interesting because a lot of times you let somebody
hang around that you shouldn't and and it can come
back to haunt you. Obviously it doesn't happen every time.
And yet it did feel like going into halftime, I'm
sure that the Falcons are like, hey, all right, we'll
right where we need to be right and yet that
opening kickoff that Rashiji he took to the house is
almost just one of those where it's it's kind of
(05:17):
a backbreaker, you know, just kind of diminishes your your
motivation a little bit. They were hanging around, they were
playing them tough. I think Atlanta's defense was looking good
and you know, took advantage of you know, a bobble
and then a pick and some stuff like that. But
ultimately it didn't feel like it didn't feel like that
they were the same after that play, and I'm sure
(05:39):
that they didn't come out of halftime playing the way
that led to you know, thirty one points or whatever in.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
The second half.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
But when something like that happens all of a sudden,
you just kind of feel like and they said on
the broadcast a couple different times, especially in the second half,
that Atlanta, you can't afford to make a bunch of
mistakes against this team. And they did, and Seattle made
them pay for just about every single one of them
in the second half.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
For sure.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Did they make mistakes?
Speaker 7 (06:02):
My god, I felt like every two minutes, all of
a sudden, it was like in a ball is tipped
up in the air and it was either a chance
at an interception or an interception.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Well, I mean the penalties and the poorly timed penalties.
I mean, I look across the National Football League and
you really do. It is really kind of a study
of professional sports. I mean, even the Tennessee Titans yesterday,
Mike McCoy's postgame press conference or postgame re marks in
the locker room, you guys never stopped working. I mean,
(06:33):
even when you're the worst team in the National Football League.
I mean, there's still like professional pride in your at least,
if nothing else, playing for your next paycheck. And so
the Atlanta Falcons certainly play hard, but my goodness, I mean,
you want to see the example of why a team
is four and nine, Like every opportunity they had to
(06:54):
win the game, they either made some stupid play, stupid penalty,
or they get they just caught a really horrible break.
I mean even the touchdown they scored before the half,
where they could have taken a lead and momentum into
the half, but the official and we'll have to talk
to Jean Stator about it tomorrow. I thought he established
(07:17):
himself back in play, and yet they decide that that's
you know, that's not a catch. I mean, every opportunity
the Falcons had for a big play, it either got
turned over by a penalty or got erased by some stupid,
you know, mishap on their side of things, and that
(07:40):
otherwise maybe they're got a lead at the end of
the first half. I think that is the example of
a team that is just a bad football team right there.
Even when you are playing hard, and even when you
are hanging with one of the best teams in the
National Football League, man, you can't you can't make winning plays.
That's about as clear as I can make it. The
(08:01):
Atlanta Falcons don't make winning football.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Plays, yeah, yeah, and they find a way to make
ones like losing football plays or have one.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
I can't wait to hear what Jane says about that,
because I was sitting there thinking myself, well, that's a
four point swing. I mean, they still end up getting
a field goal out of that possession when it did
look like he got him a couple of feet back
in for sure, and if even if that's the rule,
and you want to, you know, split hairs about whether
or not he for sure had established himself back and
he most certainly didn't run out of bounds on his own.
(08:31):
There was a little bit of contact that would have
forced him out, which is a penalty. And yet so
that's one where they didn't shoot themselves on the foot.
But they had other times they're driving down and Bijon
Robinson looks like they're going to go in for a touchdown.
At that point in time, they had a couple of
drives that they were kind of rolling. He coughs up
the ball. It's you know, that whole saying a bad
teams find a way to lose, or good teams find
(08:52):
a way to win. There, there's a there's a reason
that there're four and nine. They've found a way to
lose a whole bunch of times. And yet yeah, I
mean it's you know, they're pros. They're going to go
out there and play hard. It's just kind of that
there comes a tipping point where if you end up
shooting yourself in the foot, you make a couple of
mistakes here and there, or you get a bad call
against your something happens that you can kind of fold
(09:14):
and crumble, and that's typically what will happen because they still,
even though they're pros, they still know that they're disappointed.
They still feel the disappointment. And when something bad happens,
good teams are like, all right, got to overcome it.
We're ten and three or you know, we're nine and three.
We're trying to win this thing. We got a division
to win, and you kind of dig deeper and find
that next year when you're a bad team and your
(09:36):
your season is kind of lost, when that bad thing happens,
it's a whole lot harder to not wither and Wilter
just kind of roll over. And that's exactly what happened
in the second half. And the Seahawks took it every
advantage of it.
Speaker 7 (09:46):
Yeah, I definitely got nervous when Sam Darnold threw the interception.
I was like, oh gosh, this is especially because for
that first half, it's like, you can't make any of
these mistakes right now because we clearly can't move the ball,
can't do anything.
Speaker 5 (09:58):
And then cle It was just interesting to see.
Speaker 7 (10:01):
It was like the first half of the second half
for two Actually, no, the first half of the third quarter.
Two totally different games, two totally different teams on the field.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Well, yeah, fourth quarter was a different game too because
it was just a matter of just melting the.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
Field.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
But yeah, I think the Falcons kind of proved they're
a house of cards and they just couldn't keep overcoming
their mistakes and the setbacks. And I think that's emblematic
of a losing football team, and right now, a losing
franchise with a losing head coach that's on borrowed time
at this at this point where the Seahawks are a
(10:37):
quality team having a quality season with a quality head coach,
and it does feel like you got to halftime and
there might have even been a okay, enough is enough,
Get it together kind of moment because you come out
very first thing, extraordinary special teams play, next thing, force
a turnover on a great hit by Jaron Reid.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Welcome back Jaron Reid.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
And then the offense finally gets the ball and I
wrote down within four plays, finally some offensive rhythm, and
the next thing you know, you're scoring a touchdown on
that magical Darnold to JSN conversation. And with six minutes
left in the third quarter, you're suddenly up two scores
at that point, and then it was just completely over
from there. So on one hand, you saw the tale
(11:22):
of what a bad football team looks like at this
stage of the season and how they can't get out
of their own way even when they are playing hard
and hanging with a very good to great team. And
then on the other side of it, you see why
the Seahawks are being described as one of the if
not the most complete team in the National Football League
(11:44):
right now, because when they got the opportunity they started
to gain an advantage, they completely took the advantage. It's like,
We're not going to sit around and wait for you
to get your crap together. We gave you a half
to get your crap together. But now it's time to
start playing great football. And the Seahawks did that. So
tail of two teams tailed two different paths right now,
(12:05):
and the Seahawks just absolutely bloodied the Atlanta Falcons in
the second half.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
I think a lot of credit goes to the coaching staff.
A couple of years ago, I think it was Peyton
Manny maybe was on the Manning cast. He's like, everybody
talks about halftime adjustments. I don't remember any halftime adjustments.
I went in and I had, like, you know, something
to eat and something to drink, some orange slices or
whatever he said. And and yet the coaches most certainly
do because they're not you know, recovering from something. They're
not trying to you know, get themselves feeling okay to
(12:33):
go out there and battle for the next two quarters.
They're they're going in and thinking, Okay, what was working,
what wasn't working? Make adjustments. And Mike McDonald said in
his press game conference that a lot of credit goes
to those guys because he's he wasn't just speaking about
last last yesterday's game. He was talking about multiple games
where when that happens, they make some adjustments. There was
(12:55):
obviously some adjustments made that compounded the mistakes that either
at made, but also I mean more so just was like,
we just got to do what we do. We're better
than these guys are we let them hang around. We
weren't doing everything we possibly could. They were playing as
hard as possible. That the kick return kind of was
like a takes the wind out out of the falcon sales,
so to speak. But I think that really it was
(13:16):
the the fumble, that big hit fumble and then you
drive eighty eight yards on them and all of a
sudden they look up and it's twenty to six, when
they were just tied, Yeah, and you know they basically
hadn't done anything but have the ball one time and
drive before the fumble. It was like, we didn't really
even do anything bad except for cough the ball up,
and they've made us pay for it as bad as
(13:37):
much as they possibly could. So it was just a
matter of you got to kind of keep that pressure
on them and then typically the better team, the one
that doesn't wither or the one that doesn't falter down
the stretch, is the one that's going to win. But
I don't think anybody would have thought at halftime that
you're going to look up and see thirty seven to
nine as the final score of the game.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
No doubt.
Speaker 5 (13:55):
Yeah, I was listening to the broadcast too interesting.
Speaker 7 (13:57):
It was interesting because they were talking about the defense
and just how close they all are and how you
know they all know where anyone is going to be
and they're playing just like they all know where anyone
is going to be at any given moment, and they
just are so in sync. And those are the types
of things that you just love hearing, right because it's like, Okay, I.
Speaker 5 (14:15):
Just know even from that from the moment that you
hear that.
Speaker 7 (14:18):
Mike McDonald tells Rachid Shaheed to go out and run
the kickoff back and he did it. Like just it
seems like this team is really all on the same level.
They're spreading the ball around, they're doing all of the
things that you want your team to be doing, especially
at this moment in the season.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Well, I mean they were trailing one hundred and fifty
yards to one hundred and eleven at halftime. I mean
that was the Ben don't break defense, and that's not
the defense that Mike McDonald wants to run. He wants
the break, break everything, break everything they do. That's what
I don't yeah, don't bend. Yeah, yeah, it's uh, it's
(14:53):
that's the kind of defense that he's striving to have,
and you saw it show up there in the second half.
But U and speaking of defense, and I think this
is the one thing that has to be talked about
before we get into what's on tap. My goodness, I mean,
we spent an entire week maybe hyping up nick Emon
Worri more than we have all season long, and to
(15:15):
the point where I got to Friday because we spent
an entire segment out of our roundtable. That's precious time
in the roundtable, And I had five different things to
throw into the second segment of the roundtable last week.
The only thing that Greg and Hugh allowed us to
discuss per their conversation was nick Emon Worri and how
(15:36):
special he looks like. And then it got to the
point where as I'm sitting there on Friday night, have
we just are we building up this guy too much?
Did we talk too much about nick Emon Worri? Are
we putting the cart a little bit before the horse?
Are we attaching the word great? Is it premature to
detach the word great, and then he goes out there
(15:56):
and dominates every single facet of the frick football game. Yep,
my goodness, is that guy good and maybe already great?
I mean block field goal interception. I think he had
a sack, two tackles for loss, led the team in
solo tackles yesterday.
Speaker 5 (16:14):
His sline was like an entire defensive style.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
I don't know if he's going to end up being
named to the Pro Bowl, because we know that there's
goofy voting and stuff like that, and I doubt as
a rookie he would be named first team All Pro.
But that's one of the best defensive players in the
National Football League right now. I can say that here
on December eighth, twenty twenty five.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
I think a lot of people were super excited when
when the Seahawks got him in the draft because of
his measurables, how athletic he was, and yet how McDonald
has decided to use him, and how he's capable of
being taught how to play so many different positions in
so many different ways. And then on top of it,
I think the like the block field goals, that's something
(16:58):
I mean just as fast as he is and long
as he is to be able to get to that
and then you put your hand there and sure there's
some luck involved you don't know where he's in to
kick it, but there's also something to putting it somewhere
around the area that it's going to be kicked at. Yeah,
pretty well blanketed. Yeah, it was pretty pretty much perfect
how he did it. And that was a big play.
I mean that was after an interception that that donald
(17:21):
had thrown and then basically they're going to possibly go
up six' three at that. Point had that touchdown not
been turned over or called, back that their next possession
that they only got a field goal out. OF i,
mean you're talking about a possibility of something being different
where even the return touchdown in the second half doesn't
even give you the lead at that point in. Time
(17:41):
he's a game, changer there's no doubt about. It and
the fact that he can be he's at his, age
he still is capable of learning how to do the
complex things That mike McDonald's asking me to do at
multiple different.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
Positions it's crazy.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
Impressive you're, Right who knows if he'll get any of
the accolades that he probably, deserves but he's going to
get him.
Speaker 7 (18:00):
Eventually noah feels, LIKE i think goodness is wrist or
hand was okay because that was LIKE i don't THINK
i was breathing ten minutes AS i was, like.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Oh, god what.
Speaker 7 (18:08):
Happened he's kind of does that every, game but that
time he was like reacting like he really hurt.
Speaker 5 (18:12):
Himself all, right.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Let's find out what's on? Tap what's on?
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Tep what's on? Tap all?
Speaker 3 (18:21):
Right it is a frost Brewed corse. Light choose Chill.
Monday we're counting down To Monday night Football tonight at five.
Fifteen wright he or At Sports radio ninety three point THREE,
Kjrfm and On monday mornings we Do Monday Morning. Quarterback
and that is a lineup starring OUR qb. One Hugh
millano will join us at eight. O'clock Mike holmgren will
be with us at nine. O'clock hugh will be with
(18:42):
us from eight to, ten so that means coach And
hugh from nine to. Ten Greg bell's normally part of
this impressive lineup at seven oh, five but he is.
Traveling but my, goodness have we found somebody really interesting
to take his. Place there's another huge story going on
that we might. Discussed that's the college football, playoff And
(19:03):
Chris peterson will be joining us here this morning at
seven o, Five so really excited to have Coach peterson
on and certainly there's a lot to discuss on that.
Front as a matter of, fact we're gonna blow off
cold turkey sandwich today in order to talk about the
college Football. Playoff if you want THE nfl, scores the
internet is.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Available, yeah it has.
Speaker 5 (19:23):
It, YEAH i actually used it quite a bit to
look up.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
Scores, yeah it turns out that it's. There so in
lieu of no cold turkey sandwich, today just a couple of.
Scores rams forty five seventeen Over, arizona so they moved
to ten and three as. Well San francisco was on
buy this, week so they're at nine to. Four but
at least we don't have that pesky half game.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
In our way.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
Anymore they're a full game back of both The hawks
and The. Rams Green Bay Packers Chicago. Bears that was
a great. Game that was a really good, game And
Green bay won at twenty eight to twenty, One pittsburgh
twenty seven to twenty two winners over The Baltimore ravens
and what might be the worst call of the entire.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Year in The National Football.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
LEAGUE i don't understand the, explanation but why behind Why
isaiah likely did not score a touchdown when he got
three feet down in the end. Zone but that's another
thing For Gene stertur. Tomorrow jacksonville just Pummeled indianapolis thirty
six to. NINETEEN i think they were gonna beat them
anyway the way the game was, unfolding but it certainly
(20:26):
didn't help When Daniel jones went out with an achilles.
Injury and just so, happens The seahawks Have indianapolis on
the schedule next and so a little bit of good
fortune for The hawks three straight. Games that'll be the
third straight game they'll be facing a backup quarterback due to.
Injury and The Houston texans defeated The Kansas City chiefs
(20:46):
last night twenty to. Ten many people believing that the
dynasty has come to an end officially for The Kansas City,
chiefs but they do have an awfully soft schedule the
rest of the, way especially If denver is by chance
on the last game of the. Season kind of resting
their players because they've already wrapped some stuff, up SO
(21:07):
i wouldn't count them out just. Yet College Football playoff.
Controversy we will discuss that in our next. Segment if
you haven't, Heard Notre dame did not get into The
College Football. Playoff, also two group of five teams got
in because of The duke upset Over virginia On saturday,
night and so a lot to discuss on that, front
(21:28):
including why Is alabama. In so we'll talk about that
coming up at six. Thirty indiana Defeated Ohio state for
The Big ten title thirteen to. Ten what a tremendous
game that Was, saturday and so The hoosiers number one
ranked heading in to The College Football. Playoff Major League
Baseball Winter. Meetings Jeff kent was named of The hall
(21:50):
Of fame. Yesterday Kyle, schwarber according to all, experts is
the domino that must fall before some activity takes. Place
the next couple of days at The Winter, meetings The
mariners made a trade over the, weekend Sending Harry ford
to The Washington nationals in exchange For Jose. Farrair we
will discuss that today and The kraken will be in
(22:11):
action tonight against The Minnesota. Wild The kraken could really
use a. Win they will drop the puck there at seven.
O'clock coming up, next, though we'll get into the gritty
details of the college football playoff rankings and try to
make sense of this controversy On chuck And Buck Sports
radio ninety three point THREE. Kjrfm no Cold turkey sandwich.
(22:36):
Today aboard of scores here On Chucking. Buck normally we
go through all of THE nfl, scores but Today i'm
gonna have to have you rely on your. Phone it's,
SMART i, hear, yes but keep it.
Speaker 5 (22:47):
Charged power might go.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
Out, yeah that could, Happen so you got to keep
THOSE nfl scores. Handy but we don't normally have this
big of a college story here On, monday but the
college football playoff is now. Set it has certainly created
a lot of, conversation a lot of. Controversy and before
we get into anything, ELSE i would just in The
(23:11):
Notre dame, SITUATION i would just SAY i think everybody,
recognizes so we don't need to just keep belaboring this.
POINT i, mean we'll make it here this morning because
we haven't had the chance to make the. POINT i
don't think that there's anybody in the college football world
that wants to see two teams from the group of,
five especially one with two losses and the other one
(23:32):
being a question mark as. Well And James, MADISON i
think the idea of having a group of five representative is, excellent,
Yes and the idea of freezing them out without giving
them a chance to prove what they can do in a,
TOURNAMENT i think would be a real. Sin that, said
we had just a year ago a group of five
(23:54):
winner was given a first round by because and so
Was air's gown To state was actually rated Below Boise.
State and so we looked at that in year number
one of The College Football playoff and, said, well that's not,
Right and they immediately fixed it in the offseason so
that we didn't have to do it this. Year there's
(24:14):
gonna be a little bit of, growth there's gonna be
a little growing pains and trying to figure out the
right formula for. This so they had to do what
they had to do in putting Both James madison And tulane.
In but we all recognize that as being, flawed, Yes
and SO i think that that's another thing this offseason
that they will correct with, immediacy AND i don't know
(24:35):
how they do. THAT i don't know if, it's, hey
they're five conference, champions but we're only going to take
the four, best or if there are two group of
five teams in, there we're just not gonna have. FIVE
i don't know how they're going to do, it but
it is something that they're going to, correct and if
not for, that we wouldn't even have The Notre dame
issue being out there right.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
Now, Yeah, YEAH i, Mean i'm with. YOU i think.
Speaker 1 (24:59):
THAT i, mean if we just go based on the
short amount of information we have so far with this, Playoff,
yeah last year when just the way it was set
up with the buys and who got, in it seems
like they made some adjustments and SO i think that
was smart across the. Board but, yeah they're gonna have
to continue to tweak this thing because there's there's definitely
(25:20):
something to be said ABOUT i, MEAN i love having
the underdogs have a, chance, right have a, chance but it's.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
Having an, underdog, yeah, well having a chance even if, solo.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Even if both Tu lane And James madison were both
like undefeated and it was like, yeah how do you
keep them? OUT i agree with that they're, not and
yet you're keeping you most certainly are not doing WHAT
i think most people want it to, be and that
IS i want the best twelve teams and less if
you're on the, bubble if you're down in that twelve
spot or eleven. Spot if there's a couple underdogs who
(25:53):
maybe we can't say That tulane Or James, madison for,
example are one of the twelve best. Teams as matter of,
fact they're not ranked in the top twelve, teams and
so most people don't think they. Are but they haven't
done anything except for kick the crap out of the
people that are on their, schedule just across the, board
one after another after. Another then they earn a. Chance
(26:14):
but it's like you're you to some degree with the
Whole Notre dame they. Got they're being punished because of
a couple, losses and unfortunately and because they're not in a,
conference and so you don't get to weigh them. Evenly,
well we don't get to waive Way James madison Or
tulane evenly either because they're not playing near the competition
(26:35):
of The texas and THE byu and The Notre dame
and some of the other teams that are on the
outside looking.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
In so very.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
Interesting they do have to keep tweaking this thing because
right now this is one where a lot of people
are either mad or they're scratching their head as to
how does this.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
Happen, well it's, wrong and it's going to get. Fixed
there's no. Fix there was no fixing it this. Year
the committee couldn't say we've established these rules and so
we are not going to pay attention to them because
we can't put two of those teams in. There so
they recognize it being, wrong and just like they did
a year, ago it will get. Fixed that part of
it will get. Fixed now let's get to The Notre
dame part of. IT i was, STUNNED i really, Was
(27:13):
and THIS i said AS i defended the committee last.
WEEK i, SAID i can't wait to criticize them On
monday BECAUSE i know they're going to do something THAT
i think is worth. Criticizing AND i think that them
leaving Out Notre dame is worth criticizing and be, it
and primarily because it has nothing to do With. MIAMI
(27:33):
i think it has everything to do with. HYPOCRISY i just,
look it's not Like alabama had this clear cut resume
that put them in no matter what happened On.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
SATURDAY i, mean.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
The previous week they were lower Than Notre dame and
only Beat auburn to jump ahead Of Notre. Dame that's
all they. Did they beat a bad, team, barely, barely
and then jumped ahead Of Notre. Dame now, LOOK i,
Mean georgia loses that game To, alabama they're getting. In
But alabama has a bad loss on their record In Florida,
(28:08):
state and you've made it very clear the previous weeks
that the difference between them And Notre dame And miami is.
Minute so, yes losing The COLLEGE a conference championship that
you only got in because of a series of tie.
Breakers it's not like you ran away with the regular.
Season you only Got you had the same record As
(28:29):
Ole miss in. Conference you had the same record As
TEXAS a and m in. Conference the only reason you
got in is because of a series of tie. Breakers
so you're barely in to The college to THE sec
conference championship to begin. With you're barely ahead Of Notre
dame and probably shouldn't have been at all to begin,
(28:50):
with and you're barely ahead Of miami. Clearly so why
does your loss To georgia which kind of takes away
your great win Over. Georgia i'm not saying takes it,
away but it does sort of mitigate. It how does
that keep you in the tournament? Field how does that
Knock how does that not knock you? Out considering how
(29:12):
close the competitions were between you and two other? Teams and,
so to, me the mistake was Not miami in Over Notre,
dame it Was alabama not. Falling AND i love this this.
Excuse WELL byu, fell But alabama. Can't SO byu lost
because they lost a conference championship, game they dropped in the,
(29:35):
standings but Somehow alabama, didn't.
Speaker 5 (29:38):
And their only two losses were to the same, team.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
Which are the.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
Same the only THING byu proved is That texas texts
a lot better than. Them that's the only thing that
approved over the. Weekend that doesn't mean that they aren't
one of the top twelve. Teams but you're sure as
f drop them, down. Yep AND i guarantee you would
have Dropped georgia from number four down had they Lost
alabama so how Does alabama not fall out of it
(30:01):
when they've lost a third game and they went into the.
WEEKEND i guarantee You Notre dame would have liked the
opportunity to try. TO i, mean that's one of the
benefits of playing in the conference championship. Game you get
the opportunity to cench your. Spot it's not like there's
no reward and getting getting. There it's not like you
can only lose by playing in the conference tournament. Championships
(30:24):
and so to, me the mistake was Not miami Over Notre.
Dame it Was alabama over Both miami And Notre.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Dame, well, yeah the hypocrisy, is there's no doubt about,
it the fact that you don't, move but another team
can can drop all the way out of. It but
basically doing the same thing losing your conference, championship both
of them losing it in ugly, FASHION i, mean getting
whooped up in. It and yet it's THE i mean
that's part of the argument or the people that are
mad slash scratching their head is That ALABAMA sec that
(30:55):
they kind of feel like it's favored BECAUSE espn and THE,
sec the.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Relations and ship.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
There, WELL i don't like when you get into something
that you're, like, gosh that makes it, icky, right that
makes it kind of, Gross and yet to some degree it.
Is now they're Leaving Notre, dame who's not in THE,
sec but it's still a huge. Brand they're leaving them
out because they're sticking by their. RULES i, MEAN i
don't want you to be punished if you're kind of,
in AND i don't want you to be punished because
(31:20):
you're playing an extra. Game THAT'S i think one of
the tweaks that might come with it is them getting
rid of the conference championship. Game they will simply because
it doesn't Make it's really hard to. Decipher, well how
much do we punish them for losing To. Georgia they're
getting whooped By. GEORGIA i don't know how much you punish. Them,
well would you punish them just? Enough and Then Notre
dame's still out because they didn't EVEN.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
I would punish them enough to make the tie. Breaker
If i've got three teams AND i want to put
all three of them, in AND i have announced to
the world that they're dead even.
Speaker 5 (31:48):
And one's got now three losses and.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
One's now got three losses and they got blown out
and their third, loss and they got blown out and
their first loss by a bad. TEAM i think the
tiebreaker was provided On. Saturday they didn't even come close
to Beating Georgia.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
Saturday, No, no they. Didn't i'm with. YOU i, mean
it's it's it. Is there's something about it the, stinks
and it's not just it's not just that the rule
Like Notre dame by the, Way oh, YEAH i don't, either,
yeah and yeah, Yeah and yet to some degree in
Your Notre, dame if you've, decided, no we're such a
big brand that we don't have to hitch our wagon
(32:24):
to anybody else that's in, conference then you don't get
to go out there and lose a couple of. Games
and it's unfortunate BECAUSE i think they're playing just as
good a football as anybody else in the, country maybe
outside Of. Indiana and YET i think THAT i think
that you kind of make your, bed then you got
to sleep in, it you know WHAT i. Mean and
so if they, wanted because let's just, think If Notre
dame wasn't, idol if they were in THE acc and
(32:46):
they whooped up on THE acc championship they're probably not
on the outside looking in right.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
Now all, right we'll talk more about it. Later Chris
peterson joins US a seven oh five Coach bucki's Next
Sports radio ninety three point THREE. Kjrfm we understand that
is a big, story but Coach bucky is, here and
so let's rip through a few. Things let's start with.
Baseball winter meetings got started last. Night i'm sure you
and the family stayed up all night long discussing, that.
(33:13):
Celebrating probably prepared a wonderful feast for the start of
the winter meetings last.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
Night we. Did we. Didn't, yeah we didn't turn it
into a. HOLIDAY i, AM i am.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
INTRIGUED i turned my notifications for stuff LIKE mlb trade.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
Rumors turn that back. On, oh it's about the extent of.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
It you partied, then partially hard that we did make
a trade over the. Weekend Harry ford is now a
member of The Washington nationals in return for left handed
reliever Jose A farrer of The. Nationals, certainly as much
as we've discussed possibly Trading Harry, Ford Coach, BUCKY i
thought we would end up with more than a left handed.
(33:53):
Reliever but that's the.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
Deal, well right off the, TOP i thought the same, thing,
like what just relief? Period what our number one not
our number one, prospect but definitely a top prospect of.
OURS i thought that the market would probably be. Higher
and then when you start diving into, it it's pretty.
GOOD i, mean his numbers don't jump off the page
as far as just the regular wins and.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
LOSSES i think he.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
Was like four and four last year with like a
four or five year a so not nothing great you
start diving into. IT i mean throws one hundred and
he has an absolutely wicked slider and change. Up doesn't
basically get a bunch of hard, contact it's a lot
of ground. Balls it's a spot that we. Needed is
a good, lefty AND i think this is probably. Well
it's without a doubt in my, opinion you'll Have gay
(34:37):
back next. Year and yet his kid's better than what
Gave Gabe. Spiders SO i think you just bolstered. Something
and if that's all you could get For Harry, Ford
i'm sure it's not the first deal that they had discussed.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
Quickly Daniel jones is out next, Week Coach, BUCKY i,
mean if you had to come up with one piece
of advice for all, coaches wouldn't you advise them to
never face a starting? Quarterback that would be a, grady really.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
Beneficial so it would be really.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
BENEFICIAL i might sit my starting quarterback out If i'm
gonna play.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
The seahawks the next.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Week, huh because that's just a recipe for.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
You you lose your starting.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
Quarterback, yeah but without a, Doubt and this defense doesn't
need a whole heck of a lot of. Help they're
gonna go out there and make it difficult on any.
Quarterback and yet to be able to go Against Kirk
cousins Versus Mike, PANNIX i think was an. Advantage and
whoever The colts end up thrown out, there it's going
to be a downgrade from What Daniel jones the way
he has been playing majority of this.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
Year all.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
Right and then, finally seventeen hours of partying with your
friends over the weekend. Straight if you're going to give
an advice to a six year old listening right now
about partying for seventeen straight, hours what's your main?
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Advice just don't even. Start don't.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
Start stay away from, it, Kids it doesn't make you feel.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
Good it was.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Really enjoyable in the, moment but, boy oh, boy fifty years,
old you just don't rebound like you used.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
TO i will tell you that.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
Much all, Right headlines, next Plus Chris peterson and we
will talk more about the Airy ford trade in the next.
