it's so dull around here. We haven't talked about the
Open Championship all week long. All Star Game festivities are
manager being questioned. I mean, our pets heads are falling off.

I mean, it is a crazy, crazy time. And they
used to call this the slow time of the year.
I'm hoping, I'm actually hoping the next couple of nights
are slow because I'm kind of looking forward to not
watching a sporting event when I wake up from my
nap for the next couple of days. As much as

I love sports, and it should be obvious how much
I love sports, I'm kind of looking forward to going
to have a meal on a patio somewhere and not
have to worry about what the score is or if
I'm missing something. So I'm actually looking for it to
slow down because it has been mad capped for weeks.
It feels like and this is supposed to be the

slow time of the year.

And it's so funny that when people say that, and
because every year it's not slow. Now I'm this year
you had in the World Cup, which has made it
not slower.

Once upon a time it was slow. It was just

Yes, in the end, that was, but that was like
what four, five, six, maybe ten years ago.

And it's just not the case anymore. I mean the
fact that we are so fascinated with off seasons now,

doesn't have a dead moment. You know, these are supposed
to be the dead moments, and then we have ranking
lists that come out that stir our conversational muscles and

so so there's really not and I'm I'm pleased about it.
I've I've often told everybody that I work with in
this world, I love this time of the year when
it was slower because it allowed you to not be
a slave to the day's biggest story. You got to
be a little more creative, you got to talk about
things you don't normally get to talk about. And yet

we have certainly had a really busy month this month,
there's no question about it. So maybe the next couple
of days will slow down before we get into football
season and training camp again next week. But I don't
I'm good with it. I mean, I'm not complaining about it.
That's that's for certain. But the days of this being

considered the slow time of the year have been dead
and buried.

Well, the MLB All Star Game was held last night
in Philadelphia. Apparently Philadelphia's in America. We weren't able to tell.

I didn't know that actually before last night. Now I
think it might be the capital.

Well it was once upon a time, yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
See, and now I think it might really be it again.
I might be going backwards, you know what.

At first, I'm like, man, they are going all in
on this pregame show. Everything's about America. Like are they
realizing that they're doing this? And then I'm like, okay,
all right, now I'm starting to put the pieces together.
Two hundred and fifty birthday, We're close to the fourth
of July. We apparently intentionally chose Philadelphia to ose this

particular All Star game. Okay, I sort of get the
American theme, and believe me, I love me some Red, white,
and Blue. I love me some America, There's no question
about it. But did we pay play every song written
about America last night? I mean, like every single one
of everyone?
Speaker 2 (05:08):
And they think they actually wrote some more and played
those as well.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
You know, Bucky always tell us the story about when
he was in the miners and Lee Greenwood was dropped
down from a helicopter and he sang his America song
and he thought it was one of the coolest things
that he'd ever seen in his entire life. I was
half expecting since there wasn't anything that happened. In the
middle of the eighth inning, I was ordering the miller

to duran pitching change, right. I thought maybe they'd squeeze
Lee Greenwood, you know, coming down from a chopper in
center field. Take the time to let him play. I'm
proud to be an American.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Bald eagle on his shoulder.

Yeah, probably in a wheelchair at this age by now,
bald eagle on his shoulder, you know. And and he
just cranks it out for one last time. I mean,
it was it was a lot.

It's and it could have bordered on too much or
it obliterated the line one or the other.

Oh, it didn't see the line.

But it was funny because during the home run derby,
when I was looking at the uniforms with the American
flag on the numbers, I thought, oh, that's kind of cool,
but you know, we're past fourth of July. But that's
all right, you know. And I thought that's oh, I
like it, that's okay. And then when we went yesterday,
I was like, oh, well, now I see why they
had the American numbers on their jersey.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
It was all America. It was the American theme. And
I don't know who hatched that. I don't know if
that was Philadelphia that because they submitted for this years
ago apparently, and I don't know if it was with
the idea that's going to be the two hundred and
fiftieth anniversary, we can just blow out baseball in America.
And but they blew it out. And they did have
some great moments. Yes, the video that they did with
(06:51):
the kids riding the bicycles and then they arrived at
the stadium and then Ray.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Charles, who, oh my gosh, that was good.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
I'm such a big Ray Charles fan and such a
big America fan, and I like kids too.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Yeah, well, I like a lot of other people's kids.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
But that was that was fantastic. I thought the pregame
introductions they were fantastic. I thought Joe Davis did a
great job planned to the crowd and who they might boo.
I actually, at this stage of my life, I'm fifty
five years old and I finally get Philadelphia fans, and
I find them lovable all of a sudden. But they,
(07:26):
you know, they have this reputation of booing everyone and
throwing batteries at players, and they booed Santa Claus and
everything else. I love that in the last ten to
fifteen years, they've just embraced this and now they almost
it's almost endearing. They booed everyone, everyone at the home
run derby the night before. They were booing kids who
were dropping fly balls. They booed everyone in the National League,
(07:50):
and then all of the Yankees last night, and then
they roared for their Philadelphia Phillies when they tipped their
caps to the crowd. And so I think they really
just like, we're going with this. We boo everyone, and
now it's suddenly kind of sweet. Now now you can
see the players get such a kick out of it.
So Philadelphia was certainly they put on a great show

over the course of the last couple of days. The
America thing I think got a little overdone. I do
believe that maybe, and when I say a little overdone.
I think whoever produced that broadcast last night should be
fired and and so. But but there were a lot
of a lot of good things about it. My mom
tweeted me before the game started as an annual tradition,

and she doesn't remember my birthday all that often anymore,
but she does remember that. Man, the All Star Game
was a precious thing to my brother and I growing up,
and she had to do a lot of things. You know,
she would go get Google Cluster ice cream for us
every year. That was our that was our desertive choice
at the All Star Game. And she sent me a
text saying, I wish I could bring you Googole Cluster ice.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Oh that's cute.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Yeah, yeah, so I even got that.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Do you think did you?
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Did you think the signing the lineup like it was
the Declaration of Independence was too much?
Speaker 1 (09:11):
I thought that was one very cool thing. Oh okay,
I thought that was a very cool thing because that
was certainly outside the box and original and what a keepsake.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
Yeah, no, that part will be very cool. It was
just interesting.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
I think the part that was interesting to me is
that you're you're having a bunch of players signed the
Declaration of Independence, which is a very important American document.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
And know a lot of the players aren't American.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
So in my I was laughing, like, I wonder if
they think this is weird that they're doing this.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Well, that was the That was sort of what I
struggled with the entire night. Yeah, like, wait a minute,
we're really we really kind of turned this into a
global game. All sports have turned it into a global game.
The NBA seven other top ten players are not from
America anymore. The face of the NBA is a twenty

two year old seven foot five inch Frenchman. I mean,
almost all leagues and baseball's been trying to do this
as well, with the show Heyo Tani phenomenon that has
taken place. I mean, maybe it's the reason he tapped
out and didn't want to play last night. I don't know.
Maybe he saw the rundown of what they were going
to do. But I wrestled with that all night long,

Like the all sports are sort of going global. I
think it's fantastic because it has improved the quality of
the play. We're now reaching for the baseball talent in
the world, not just here in America, but we were
there fifteen years ago, and now all of a sudden,
here we have the stage to ourself. The World Cup
(10:39):
got played earlier that day, and the World Cup was
all about the world for the last month, and then
Baseball's decided with the prime time stage on the same
day that a World Cup semifinal was held, Baseball decides,
we're going to make this all about America. So everybody
tuning in who is globally like sick of how America
(11:00):
pats itself on the back. They had to watch six
straight hours of how awesome America is. And there were
even American players like Schwarber and Harper who were the
stars of the week. I mean they were. They got
more applause than anybody in the world the last couple
of days. And even they by the eighth inning and
(11:20):
the seventh time they had to come out of the
dugout and put their cap over their heart, they were
they were laughing about it. They were rolling their eyes about,
like how many tributes are we going to do it
during the course of this game. So I struggled with
that all game long. As much as I love America
and as much as I love baseball's place in American history,
(11:40):
which I love. I wrote a TV script about it,
by the way, got to lions Gate, got to Uh,
it got cut, but it never did get where it
needed to go, but it was considered. So that's I'm
just pointing that out because that's how much I love
baseball's place in American history. And I think that there
should have been a lot of time spent on that
(12:01):
last night, but every second of every of the entire
game and of the entire broadcast when half the players
aren't from America and you're trying to appeal to an
a global audience, more so now than ever before, and
we just went over the top last night. And there
(12:21):
were a lot of things that hit. There were a
lot of things that were home runs. Like I said,
the Ray Charles thing, I thought it was a home run.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
The sand lot st awesome.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
I thought the player introductions were a home run, including
the signing of the document. I thought that was a
really cool twist. Never would have thought of that myself,
and I considered myself a pretty creative person, and so
I thought there were a lot of home runs that
they hit, But there were a lot of awkward swings too,
and there were a lot of foul balls and it's like,
if we're going to do America the Beautiful the previous inning,
(12:51):
do we really need to do God bless America? Then again, okay,
we're gonna do that in the sixth do we need
to do the seventh inning? Stretch? And we got to
do God to do America the Beautiful now and the
seventh and then? And so to me, it was I
did wrestle with it all night long. I thought that
it was not a good idea, and then I thought

the broadcast itself was just horrendous. I cannot stand player
interviews during games.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Oh you don't see and I like it, but I
don't think they did a very good job on a
lot of them yesterday.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Maybe that's it. I mean, I think there is a
time and place, and an All Star game and exhibition
game should be the time and place for that. But
it's as if they're like, well, what if these guys leave,
we need to interview them now. So they bunched it
all at the beginning. They couldn't even get the rhythm
of the game broadcast going because they were so committed
to these clever ideas. Let's interview Justin Verlander, Let's have
(13:50):
John Smoltz, of all people, not a professional. I mean,
he's a professional broadcaster now, but he's he's not Mike Wallace. Right,
Let's have John Smoltz in, Justin Verlander, Cam Schlittler, and
Jacob Mizerowski. So two guys that have chosen not to
play in the game and one guy you just interviewed
(14:11):
one inning ago, and now you're gonna have John Smoltz
while you're trying to get the game started, interview all
three of them. The you could barely hear them because
the audio equipment was bad. Smolt's interview was not good.
The half inning they had dedicated was like four pitches,
so you didn't get anything out of it. And then
(14:33):
they brought him back for another half inning afterwards, Like
who is producing this? Who thought this was a good
idea to begin with? Just so that John Smoltz could
ask Jacob Miserovski if the professional wrestler knows that they
share the same nickname. That's what we did. That's what
we did. We had to carve out a big chunk

at the beginning of Like Eduardo Rodriguez was pitching for
the National League, not a big deal, but edwardo Rodriguez
has a really good story this year. I mean people
had left him for dead. He was horrible last season.
He's a mid thirties and then in the WBC he
got reborn and then he went on to have an
all star first half with the Arizona Diamondbacks, who only

had two representatives in the game, and you just totally
glossed over that he was even on the field so
that you could do this awkward, poorly audioble, audible, poor
audio interview with three people, none of which were engaging.
It was really poorly done. Frankly, just yeah, poorly done.

The whole I thought TV broadcast was just really bad.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Yeah, I think it was. It just went with the theme, though.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
I think they just tried to overdo everything, and that
was part of it as well, because I and I
do think they should be when you're doing in game interviews,
it should be strategic. It should be outfielders because they're
not going to see a ton of the action, so
they can kind of comment. You get kind of the funnier,
lighthearted stuff, versus you can't put on a catcher who's
catching someone who they've never caught before.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
And he felt uncomfortable he's like trying to like jibe
with Dylan Cees. I thought that was interesting watching Dylan
see sort of like make up his pitches on the
ye fly. I mean, when you see a pitcher on
the mountain, you think I've got a definitive game plan,
and then you watch Dylan Ceas last night, He's like,
let's try a slider here.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
No, I thought that was actually good. Yes, but to
do it in the first inning when you've before you've
even established like every individual hitter that's coming to the
plate for the All Star Game has a really interesting
story as to how they got there and the type
of season that they're having, and they blew all of
that off for the first three innings just so they
could show the next stage in broadcasting baseball games, We're
(16:46):
going to actually mike up the pitcher and the catcher.
And even though there were some really fascinating things that
got unearthed with that, it really was not an effective
way to start the broadcast, start the game broadcast.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Yeah, and I think it would have been great if
they would have just said to Dylan Sees, hey, you know,
while you're out there, if you just just we're gonna
have a mic On, you just chat just, you know,
every once in while, let us know what you're doing.
That would have been awesome, But I just felt bad
for Lingoliers. He was clearly like.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
He didn't want anything.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
What's happening right now, like I've never done, I've never
caught this guy. Yeah, he's throwing a million miles an hour.
I think, can we just calm this down?
Speaker 1 (17:24):
Yes, exactly. And then finally, and we should mention this
in the first segment. If I'm going to spend the
entire first seventeen minutes of the show talking about the
All Star Game. The game was bad. The game was boring,
and I don't know, I think there's any way around it.
All Star games major League Baseball level, when you never
(17:45):
get to face the same pitcher twice, you know, and
they're all of All Star caliber, and they're all throwing
their guts out on the mound. They already throw ninety
eight and now they got a little extra juice because
they're in the All Star Game. It kind of breeds
itself for a low scoring affair. But when you tune in,
you want to see the best pitchers versus the best hitters.
(18:07):
And if it's low scoring fine, but there were so
many of the best pitchers that didn't even participate, so
now you're just watching replacement relief pitchers dominate National League
getters the entire game. There were twenty seven strikeouts in
the game. Half of the players for the National League
that came to the plate struck out yea. And this
(18:27):
supposed to be an All Star game. So the game
itself was not good. And this come from a baseball fan,
And this is coming from somebody who yesterday thought that
the home run derby was the greatest home run derby
maybe we've ever seen, and the format work perfectly and
the broadcast seemed to hit on all levels. But last
night I thought the broadcast was terrible of the game.
(18:50):
The game wasn't very good, and I just hate feeding
that for people who live to bash baseball. I hate
it when the All Star Game is not entertain because
you have to hear for the next twenty four hours
you know how bad the game is, how boring the
game is. Yeah it was, And that was a boring
game last night, There's no getting around it.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
And coming off last year's game where you end up
with the swing off or whatever, and nobody knew what
was going to happen, and it was like the first Yeah,
it was the first thing, and everyone's like, what happens?
Speaker 3 (19:22):
We don't even know? And then you go to this here.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
You're like, oh man, yeah, I mean there was a
lot of action in the first inning and then there
really was no more action the rest of the game.
You just watched American relief pitchers dominate National League All Stars. Yeah,
that's what you watched last night. And I will admit
it wasn't the most thrilling of games. And I knew
that it was going to take it right between the
eyes for the next twelve twenty four hours pr wise.

So I'm braced for it because it's not done yet,
because all talk show hosts across America have to take
their shots at my favorite sport and one of my
favorite sporting events. But there's no way I can't defend it.
It was pretty boring as far as major sporting events.
It was very boring as far as major sporting events go.

of course we're all anticipating a much better second half
than we got in the first. Cody Bellinger, by the way,
was named the MVP. And there's another negative part about this.
Not many MVPs of All Star games that went that failed.
I mean, he was one for three with a single

and he won the MVP last night. Even he joked
about it afterwards, he goes, I didn't even hit that
ball hard. Yeah, and yet I got the MVP of
the game last night.

At that point, Randy Rose Arena had just as much
of an argument.

Pretty much. Pretty much, Randy Rose Arena did go one
for two and did not make any base running mistakes
and didn't low after any balls.

want to be my own pr team. And so maybe
I'm a fee tragger. I don't know, but it feels

like our bosses are all feet draggers. And the NBA
might be the greatest example of this. I think Adam
Silver is really good at what he does for the
most part. I mean, I've got my problems with him.
A lot of people do. But what NBA, what commissioner
of a league do we not have problems with Yeah,
I certainly have my fair share of problems with Roger,

and he seems to be running a pretty good operation there.

he has the Board of Governor's meeting in Vegas yesterday,
he meets with the media, he discloses the latest with

everything going on in the National Basketball Association, and before
I get to the Sonics, I will just just to

Open Championship all week long. All Star Game festivities are

I mean, it is a crazy, crazy time. And they
used to call this the slow time of the year.
I'm hoping, I'm actually hoping the next couple of nights
are slow because I'm kind of looking forward to not
watching a sporting event when I wake up from my
nap for the next couple of days. As much as

I love sports, and it should be obvious how much
I love sports, I'm kind of looking forward to going
to have a meal on a patio somewhere and not
have to worry about what the score is or if
I'm missing something. So I'm actually looking for it to

And it's so funny that when people say that, and

this world, I love this time of the year when
it was slower because it allowed you to not be

we have certainly had a really busy month this month,
there's no question about it. So maybe the next couple
of days will slow down before we get into football
season and training camp again next week. But I don't

Well, the MLB All Star Game was held last night

At first, I'm like, man, they are going all in
on this pregame show. Everything's about America. Like are they
realizing that they're doing this? And then I'm like, okay,

Two hundred and fifty birthday, We're close to the fourth
of July. We apparently intentionally chose Philadelphia to ose this

particular All Star game. Okay, I sort of get the
American theme, and believe me, I love me some Red, white,
and Blue. I love me some America, There's no question
about it. But did we pay play every song written
about America last night? I mean, like every single one
of everyone?

And they think they actually wrote some more and played
those as well.

You know, Bucky always tell us the story about when
he was in the miners and Lee Greenwood was dropped
down from a helicopter and he sang his America song
and he thought it was one of the coolest things
that he'd ever seen in his entire life. I was
half expecting since there wasn't anything that happened. In the
middle of the eighth inning, I was ordering the miller

to duran pitching change, right. I thought maybe they'd squeeze
Lee Greenwood, you know, coming down from a chopper in
center field. Take the time to let him play. I'm
proud to be an American.

Yeah, probably in a wheelchair at this age by now,
bald eagle on his shoulder, you know. And and he
just cranks it out for one last time. I mean,
it was it was a lot.

It's and it could have bordered on too much or
it obliterated the line one or the other.

But it was funny because during the home run derby,
when I was looking at the uniforms with the American
flag on the numbers, I thought, oh, that's kind of cool,
but you know, we're past fourth of July. But that's
all right, you know. And I thought that's oh, I
like it, that's okay. And then when we went yesterday,
I was like, oh, well, now I see why they
had the American numbers on their jersey.

It was all America. It was the American theme. And
I don't know who hatched that. I don't know if
that was Philadelphia that because they submitted for this years
ago apparently, and I don't know if it was with
the idea that's going to be the two hundred and
fiftieth anniversary, we can just blow out baseball in America.
And but they blew it out. And they did have
some great moments. Yes, the video that they did with

the kids riding the bicycles and then they arrived at
the stadium and then Ray.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Charles, who, oh my gosh, that was good.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
I'm such a big Ray Charles fan and such a
big America fan, and I like kids too.

Yeah, well, I like a lot of other people's kids.

But that was that was fantastic. I thought the pregame
introductions they were fantastic. I thought Joe Davis did a
great job planned to the crowd and who they might boo.
I actually, at this stage of my life, I'm fifty
five years old and I finally get Philadelphia fans, and
I find them lovable all of a sudden. But they,

you know, they have this reputation of booing everyone and
throwing batteries at players, and they booed Santa Claus and
everything else. I love that in the last ten to
fifteen years, they've just embraced this and now they almost
it's almost endearing. They booed everyone, everyone at the home
run derby the night before. They were booing kids who
were dropping fly balls. They booed everyone in the National League,

and then all of the Yankees last night, and then
they roared for their Philadelphia Phillies when they tipped their
caps to the crowd. And so I think they really
just like, we're going with this. We boo everyone, and
now it's suddenly kind of sweet. Now now you can
see the players get such a kick out of it.
So Philadelphia was certainly they put on a great show

over the course of the last couple of days. The
America thing I think got a little overdone. I do
believe that maybe, and when I say a little overdone.
I think whoever produced that broadcast last night should be
fired and and so. But but there were a lot
of a lot of good things about it. My mom
tweeted me before the game started as an annual tradition,

and she doesn't remember my birthday all that often anymore,
but she does remember that. Man, the All Star Game
was a precious thing to my brother and I growing up,
and she had to do a lot of things. You know,
she would go get Google Cluster ice cream for us
every year. That was our that was our desertive choice
at the All Star Game. And she sent me a
text saying, I wish I could bring you Googole Cluster ice.

Yeah, yeah, so I even got that.

I think the part that was interesting to me is
that you're you're having a bunch of players signed the
Declaration of Independence, which is a very important American document.

And know a lot of the players aren't American.

So in my I was laughing, like, I wonder if
they think this is weird that they're doing this.

Well, that was the That was sort of what I
struggled with the entire night. Yeah, like, wait a minute,
we're really we really kind of turned this into a
global game. All sports have turned it into a global game.
The NBA seven other top ten players are not from
America anymore. The face of the NBA is a twenty

two year old seven foot five inch Frenchman. I mean,
almost all leagues and baseball's been trying to do this
as well, with the show Heyo Tani phenomenon that has
taken place. I mean, maybe it's the reason he tapped
out and didn't want to play last night. I don't know.
Maybe he saw the rundown of what they were going
to do. But I wrestled with that all night long,

Like the all sports are sort of going global. I
think it's fantastic because it has improved the quality of
the play. We're now reaching for the baseball talent in
the world, not just here in America, but we were
there fifteen years ago, and now all of a sudden,
here we have the stage to ourself. The World Cup

got played earlier that day, and the World Cup was
all about the world for the last month, and then
Baseball's decided with the prime time stage on the same
day that a World Cup semifinal was held, Baseball decides,
we're going to make this all about America. So everybody
tuning in who is globally like sick of how America

pats itself on the back. They had to watch six
straight hours of how awesome America is. And there were
even American players like Schwarber and Harper who were the
stars of the week. I mean they were. They got
more applause than anybody in the world the last couple
of days. And even they by the eighth inning and

the seventh time they had to come out of the
dugout and put their cap over their heart, they were
they were laughing about it. They were rolling their eyes about,
like how many tributes are we going to do it
during the course of this game. So I struggled with
that all game long. As much as I love America
and as much as I love baseball's place in American history,

which I love. I wrote a TV script about it,
by the way, got to lions Gate, got to Uh,
it got cut, but it never did get where it
needed to go, but it was considered. So that's I'm
just pointing that out because that's how much I love
baseball's place in American history. And I think that there
should have been a lot of time spent on that

last night, but every second of every of the entire
game and of the entire broadcast when half the players
aren't from America and you're trying to appeal to an
a global audience, more so now than ever before, and
we just went over the top last night. And there

were a lot of things that hit. There were a
lot of things that were home runs. Like I said,
the Ray Charles thing, I thought it was a home run.

The sand lot st awesome.

I thought the player introductions were a home run, including
the signing of the document. I thought that was a
really cool twist. Never would have thought of that myself,
and I considered myself a pretty creative person, and so
I thought there were a lot of home runs that
they hit, But there were a lot of awkward swings too,
and there were a lot of foul balls and it's like,
if we're going to do America the Beautiful the previous inning,

do we really need to do God bless America? Then again, okay,
we're gonna do that in the sixth do we need
to do the seventh inning? Stretch? And we got to

seventh and then? And so to me, it was I
did wrestle with it all night long. I thought that
it was not a good idea, and then I thought

the broadcast itself was just horrendous. I cannot stand player
interviews during games.

Oh you don't see and I like it, but I
don't think they did a very good job on a
lot of them yesterday.

Maybe that's it. I mean, I think there is a
time and place, and an All Star game and exhibition
game should be the time and place for that. But
it's as if they're like, well, what if these guys leave,
we need to interview them now. So they bunched it
all at the beginning. They couldn't even get the rhythm
of the game broadcast going because they were so committed
to these clever ideas. Let's interview Justin Verlander, Let's have

John Smoltz, of all people, not a professional. I mean,
he's a professional broadcaster now, but he's he's not Mike Wallace. Right,
Let's have John Smoltz in, Justin Verlander, Cam Schlittler, and
Jacob Mizerowski. So two guys that have chosen not to
play in the game and one guy you just interviewed

one inning ago, and now you're gonna have John Smoltz
while you're trying to get the game started, interview all
three of them. The you could barely hear them because
the audio equipment was bad. Smolt's interview was not good.
The half inning they had dedicated was like four pitches,
so you didn't get anything out of it. And then

they brought him back for another half inning afterwards, Like
who is producing this? Who thought this was a good
idea to begin with? Just so that John Smoltz could
ask Jacob Miserovski if the professional wrestler knows that they
share the same nickname. That's what we did. That's what
we did. We had to carve out a big chunk

at the beginning of Like Eduardo Rodriguez was pitching for
the National League, not a big deal, but edwardo Rodriguez
has a really good story this year. I mean people
had left him for dead. He was horrible last season.
He's a mid thirties and then in the WBC he
got reborn and then he went on to have an
all star first half with the Arizona Diamondbacks, who only

had two representatives in the game, and you just totally
glossed over that he was even on the field so
that you could do this awkward, poorly audioble, audible, poor
audio interview with three people, none of which were engaging.
It was really poorly done. Frankly, just yeah, poorly done.

The whole I thought TV broadcast was just really bad.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Yeah, I think it was. It just went with the theme, though.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
I think they just tried to overdo everything, and that
was part of it as well, because I and I
do think they should be when you're doing in game interviews,
it should be strategic. It should be outfielders because they're
not going to see a ton of the action, so
they can kind of comment. You get kind of the funnier,
lighthearted stuff, versus you can't put on a catcher who's
catching someone who they've never caught before.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
And he felt uncomfortable he's like trying to like jibe
with Dylan Cees. I thought that was interesting watching Dylan
see sort of like make up his pitches on the
ye fly. I mean, when you see a pitcher on
the mountain, you think I've got a definitive game plan,
and then you watch Dylan Ceas last night, He's like,
let's try a slider here.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
No, I thought that was actually good. Yes, but to
do it in the first inning when you've before you've
even established like every individual hitter that's coming to the
plate for the All Star Game has a really interesting
story as to how they got there and the type
of season that they're having, and they blew all of
that off for the first three innings just so they
could show the next stage in broadcasting baseball games, We're
(16:46):
going to actually mike up the pitcher and the catcher.
And even though there were some really fascinating things that
got unearthed with that, it really was not an effective
way to start the broadcast, start the game broadcast.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Yeah, and I think it would have been great if
they would have just said to Dylan Sees, hey, you know,
while you're out there, if you just just we're gonna
have a mic On, you just chat just, you know,
every once in while, let us know what you're doing.
That would have been awesome, But I just felt bad
for Lingoliers. He was clearly like.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
He didn't want anything.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
What's happening right now, like I've never done, I've never
caught this guy. Yeah, he's throwing a million miles an hour.
I think, can we just calm this down?
Speaker 1 (17:24):
Yes, exactly. And then finally, and we should mention this
in the first segment. If I'm going to spend the
entire first seventeen minutes of the show talking about the
All Star Game. The game was bad. The game was boring,
and I don't know, I think there's any way around it.
All Star games major League Baseball level, when you never
(17:45):
get to face the same pitcher twice, you know, and
they're all of All Star caliber, and they're all throwing
their guts out on the mound. They already throw ninety
eight and now they got a little extra juice because
they're in the All Star Game. It kind of breeds
itself for a low scoring affair. But when you tune in,
you want to see the best pitchers versus the best hitters.
(18:07):
And if it's low scoring fine, but there were so
many of the best pitchers that didn't even participate, so
now you're just watching replacement relief pitchers dominate National League
getters the entire game. There were twenty seven strikeouts in
the game. Half of the players for the National League
that came to the plate struck out yea. And this
(18:27):
supposed to be an All Star game. So the game
itself was not good. And this come from a baseball fan,
And this is coming from somebody who yesterday thought that
the home run derby was the greatest home run derby
maybe we've ever seen, and the format work perfectly and
the broadcast seemed to hit on all levels. But last
night I thought the broadcast was terrible of the game.
(18:50):
The game wasn't very good, and I just hate feeding
that for people who live to bash baseball. I hate
it when the All Star Game is not entertain because
you have to hear for the next twenty four hours
you know how bad the game is, how boring the
game is. Yeah it was, And that was a boring
game last night, There's no getting around it.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
And coming off last year's game where you end up
with the swing off or whatever, and nobody knew what
was going to happen, and it was like the first Yeah,
it was the first thing, and everyone's like, what happens?
Speaker 3 (19:22):
We don't even know? And then you go to this here.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
You're like, oh man, yeah, I mean there was a
lot of action in the first inning and then there
really was no more action the rest of the game.
You just watched American relief pitchers dominate National League All Stars. Yeah,
that's what you watched last night. And I will admit
it wasn't the most thrilling of games. And I knew
that it was going to take it right between the
eyes for the next twelve twenty four hours pr wise.

So I'm braced for it because it's not done yet,
because all talk show hosts across America have to take
their shots at my favorite sport and one of my
favorite sporting events. But there's no way I can't defend it.
It was pretty boring as far as major sporting events.

next couple of days we'll spend some time on figuring
out the starting rotation going forward and so many other

things in regards to the second half of the Mariners season, which,
of course we're all anticipating a much better second half
than we got in the first. Cody Bellinger, by the way,
was named the MVP. And there's another negative part about this.
Not many MVPs of All Star games that went that failed.
I mean, he was one for three with a single

and he won the MVP last night. Even he joked
about it afterwards, he goes, I didn't even hit that
ball hard. Yeah, and yet I got the MVP of
the game last night.

At that point, Randy Rose Arena had just as much
of an argument.

Pretty much. Pretty much, Randy Rose Arena did go one
for two and did not make any base running mistakes
and didn't low after any balls.

show World Cup yesterday, Spain took it to France. Wow,

second team that will play for the World Cup. Argentina
versus England today at noon, and it sounds like almost
the entire world is rooting for England. I didn't realize

Argentine his soccer program was so hated universally, but sounds

such a slow time of the year that a major

he said yesterday, how it impacts the Sonics and why
so many people in prominent positions dragged their feet to

everywhere in the world. I don't know why. I mean,
it seems like we get a lot of things accomplished
as a community. Yes, as a globe. Seems like we're
always like building bridges and fixing roads. Maybe not in
a timely fashion, But that gets back to the feet
dragging aspect. It does feel it does feel like we
get things done eventually, But I think we're living in

the feet dragon is time and the history of the
world right now.

Yeah, And you know what's the most annoying part about
that is then the feet draggers like to comment on
the little things I accomplished on the way to the
big things, like, oh, well, yeah, we know this is

Well, I mean, I guess I'm a feed tragger. I've
written a lot of books and I've not really tried
to pursue publishing them because when I tried it the
first time, I ran into so many walls. I'm like,
I don't want to do this. I don't I like writing.
I don't want to be my own publisher. I don't
want to be my own pr team. And so maybe
I'm a fee tragger. I don't know, but it feels

like our bosses are all feet draggers. And the NBA
might be the greatest example of this. I think Adam
Silver is really good at what he does for the
most part. I mean, I've got my problems with him.
A lot of people do. But what NBA, what commissioner
of a league do we not have problems with Yeah,
I certainly have my fair share of problems with Roger,

and he seems to be running a pretty good operation there.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Yeah, I got a lot of problems with you people.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
Seems to be the head of a pretty powerful empire,
that Roger Goodell. And yet I could pick him apart
for days on the things that I don't like that
he does. He gets booed everywhere he goes, for goodness
sake because of those shortcomings. Well, Adam Silver, I mean,
he has the Board of Governor's meeting in Vegas yesterday,
he meets with the media, he discloses the latest with
(26:27):
everything going on in the National Basketball Association, and before
I get to the Sonics, I will just just to
illustrate my entire point for how I started this segment.
He actually said yesterday, when asked about the Kawhi Leonard situation,
that's something we probably need to get done before the
(26:48):
season starts.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
Something you probably need to get done, I think he
said probably.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Either way, he said something to the effect of, that's
something we're going to need to get done before the
season starts. Probably, Adam, no effing kidding, What do you
mean that's something to get it done now. Your investigation
needs to end.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
Now has it been going on for like ten months?
Speaker 1 (27:13):
There are teams that are there's a trade on hold,
a major trade, and the Raptors can't do anything more
with their off season, and the Clippers can't do anything
more with their off season while you keep this trade
on hold, and you're saying your timeline is that, yeah,
we should get this, We should get this done before
(27:33):
the season begins. Season begins.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
What are you talking about not October today?
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Today is Tuesday, which is yesterday. That should be done
by the end of the workday. The investigation is over,
make a ruling, make a decision. Teams are waiting, players
are waiting on what their future is. You've had a
year to investigate this. Yeah, what do you mean it's
you're going to get it done by the beginning of
the season. Is that a date and have it done

like this is not hard?
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Well, and they should have set the date three months
ago and had it done by then so that it
wasn't going to affect anyone in their draft. And there
around the draft and a Brown, what picks they wanted
to trade for and abound, what moves they wanted to absolutely.

I mean, the Clippers have been out of the playoffs
for a long time. Like how you didn't go in
with your two best guys and you know, investigate the
hell out of this thing so that you can make
a ruling the moment the off season began, like the
moment the NBA finals, have your celebration and the next

morning you should have announced a ruling on the Kawhi
Leonard thing so that the Clippers and Raptors knew. And
if you want to punish the Clippers, fine, but the
Raptors and anybody else that was interested in Kawhi Leonard
needed to know what the score was on whether or
not he was going to be eligible next year. You
are holding two franchises, one completely innocent hostage of making

their off season plans because you can't expedite an investigation
and make a ruling that you've had months to figure out.
And that leads us to the Sonics. How did we
not get more concrete information yesterday? How did the press
conference end in regards to the Sonics decision with we

should have this wrapped up by year's end, right, We
hope that it will be wrapped up by year's end.
What on earth are you dragging your feet? Do you
even have feet left? You've been dragging your feet on
this for so long. I'm surprised you don't have bloody

stubs for feet at this point, like the toes should
be worn off up to the shin for goodness sake?
For how long you've been dragging your feet and bony,
stubby ankle parts through the muck in order to to
make this decision? I mean, did the sale of the
Seahawks delay this even more?

There's always something.

Did you think, oh, wow, maybe we're not charging enough
nine point six billion dollars? Wait, let's keep this thing
open for a little while longer. Let's use this press
conference to tell all potential billionaires. Hey, this is a
really smart businessman, this Koshla guy, and he's investing in
professional sports. He upped the anti fifty nine percent over

the last jump an expanse, not an expansion process, but
NFL value. He uped at fifty nine percent from the
last sale that we had. We're not anywhere close to
those numbers. So here, ye, all billionaires out there, you
might want to study this Microsoft Sun Microsystems guy over here.

He's investing for a reason, and he's really smart. I
need more money and I need more people involved in
the process. Is that what happened, because that's what I'm
reading into it, just another excuse for you to delay
what seems to be an obvious decision. You have been
teasing around about expanding in the NBA. You have already

chosen Seattle in Las Vegas. You were supposed to be
vetting them and having a decision by this time, and
we're going to kick the can down the road until
the year. Hopefully by year's end he take that am
highest bid and let's go like, hold an auction, have
(31:40):
a public auction, have a private auction, have a silent auction.
I don't care. You already know Seattle's in one way
or the other. If you're gonna just continuously wait for well,
you gotta wait on that sale. Let's see what that
what that what fruit that bears? Oh, let's find out
what this Portland situation. We'll get to the bottom of
the Portland's situation. Hey, I cannot believe how much longer

that they are dragging this thing out, and it is
absolutely unnecessary. You have been teasing around about this for four, five, six, seven,
eight years, make a plan, let's go with it. Stop
dicking around. It's time to announce whether they're going to
expand or not, or whether you're going to move to
franchises or not, or how those two things are going

to intertwine. But man to have a press conference in
a Board of Governor's meeting and give us another loose
date way in the future, it is absurd.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Well, and this is why when we got the announcement
about that they were looking at it, or they were
going to have talks about it, or they were going
to investigate the possibility of expansion to Seattle in Vegas.
I didn't get too excited because it's the same stuff
we keep hearing all the time and all the time.
And yes, is it getting more solid as the year

go on.

Yeah, it is.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
The chances that we get a team back, they're getting
higher as the years go on.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
But when are we going to get a team back?

When that happens, I just don't have any faith in
it nor so I've said it from the beginning, I
will continue to say it. I will not be excited
about us getting a team until that whole thing is stamped.
I'm not gonna invest my energy into the NBA and
the word vomit that they do or don't spew, because
there's always something that comes first, always.
Speaker 1 (33:29):
And I think you represent a lot of people listening
out there. I think the year or the voice of
that person. I believe it's done. I think the Sonics
now it might be expansion, and it might be relocation.
I think the Sonics are coming back. But the but
and I think Adam Silver knows that the Sonics are
coming back. But my goodness, every single time you open

your mouth, it's just to announce the world a new
soft deadline that you've extended six more months into the future.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
And no, and nothing about the deadline that is now
passing that you had talked about last time. Like they're
not sitting there saying, yeah, we know we said something
would happen in July, but they're they just don't acknowledge it.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
They just moved to the next one.

He's thrown. I mean, he's like the agent of the
football player who says there's a lot of interest in
our guys, even though there's only one team that's really interested.
Like I'm sure there is a lot of interest. I'm
sure there are very few that are seriously interested. And
yet I think he saw that nine point six billion
dollar sale in the National Football League and thought we

can do better. Let me float out there are a
lot of interested parties, not just the one you know about,
and I want to tantalize others to get into the
bidding so that we can jack these prices up. And
apparently the Vegas interest is a little is a lot
softer than the Seattle interest, and so he probably wants

to stir that pot a little bit more. He's probably
wanting to use the nine points six billion dollar sale
to try to drum up other billionaires to get into
the professional sports world. Since Cosla thinks it's such a
great investment, that's probably what he's doing. But it is intolerable. Hey,
how many more times are you going to extend this

soft deadline? Stop dragging your feet? Make a decision. You
know you've already made your decision. It's just a matter
of who you're going to sell it to and for
how much. That's all it is, and whether or not
Portland gets to keep its team and Memphis gets to
keep its team. Those are the decisions you already know.
The answers you're just trying to get more money from
(35:41):
the answers that you've already arrived at. That's how I
read it all. And I get why it's annoying and aggravating,
especially those of you who are you know, died in
the wools Sonics fans that have been tortured the last
fifteen twenty years. I get it. I get where you're
coming from. But I think I don't think you have

to worry about getting a team. But I don't know
when this right, this guy's going to get around to
actually pooping. I mean he's been sitting on the pot
for two decades. Yeah, but I don't know. Maybe eat
more fiber let's go. Yeah, and that's the ye ha

But yes, Spain advances yesterday over France, so Frances out.
France had looked like the best team throughout the tournament,
but maybe they hadn't been tested. I saw the Jackson
Felts put out there, like, you can blame the coach
or the refs all you want. Your midfield got dominated.

Domination.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
Yes, so that was Jackson Felt's two cents about it.
We'll get Danny Jackson's two cents about it as well.
Here were my two cents. And again this is coming
from a person that has not I have to remind
people I don't really even like the sports, so I'm
certainly not going to try to come off as an expert.
But I've been spending the entire month doing a lot

more soccer interviews than I've ever done in my life
and really enjoying them. I mean, we've had some great
people on, including Danny will be with us at seven
o five breaking this down and making sense of it
all for us. But my kind of feeling through the
entire thing is if one player can dominate a match
so much that if he scores two goals, you're going

to win by two, then why don't you just go
all out to try to stop that one player? And
I've been given reasons as to why that can't happen,
and yet kind of look like that's what Spain did yesterday.
He's not going to beat us. Every time the ball
gets near him, We're going to tackle him, and we're
gonna do it legally because we don't want yellow cards
(38:40):
and we don't want free kicks and we don't want
red cards. But as long as we are clean in
our defense of him, we're not gonna let him breathe.
And to me, that's why they won. Yeah. But then again,
I'm not very bright.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
Yeah, I mean, you are bright, just not about soccer. Ignorant, Yeah,
And I'm less bright. I'm duller about soccer. So I'm
gonna say, yes, you're right.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
Yeah, well, I don't know. I would like to see
because I want England to win today. I'd like to
see them do the same thing to MESSI give it
a shot. Yeah, because by the way, if you try
to do that to.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
Caine, yeah you got Bellingham right there.

You've opened yourself up to be beat by the better player.

But then again, I'm ignorant. What do I know?

We'll see what he thought was the reason for Spain's
utter dominance of France yesterday in a two nil upset defeat.
Slide upset though, I mean Spain's considered powerhouse themselves. I
think Jackson did pick Spain to win. I know we

did pick Spain to win it all at the beginning
of this process. And so they're one step closer and
they'll find out their opponent for the World Cup final
a little bit later on today, which you could hear
