in regards to the Mariners, and I do want to
kind of catch up on that conversation here in a moment.
But I got to ask this. I mean, there have
been there's some great mysteries in the history of the world,
There's no question about it. Yeah, Yeah, like a Stonehenge

then what's in Bolooney, what's in Boloney Pyramids?

I didn't have enough time with it, so it never
did stop blinking that twelve o'clock. Okay, if you would
have given me just a couple more decades, I might

the world's worst, but I have never It's the one
thing that I've never had trouble with is when I
get the new TV set up, or I've moved places,

or I got a new television or had to change
cable boxes, whatever might have occurred I can all the
remote always works.

Yeah, I've never had a moment, why is this remote
not working?

What am I supposed to connect it to?

I can figure it out. I can figure out the batteries.

I've never had trouble. I have trouble with everything technology related,
never had trouble with the remote control. But I work

at a media company, the biggest in the world was
state of the art facilities. The best engineer I've ever
worked with, and I've worked with some good ones in
Terry Ryan, We've had five different.

We have had five different remotes, and never has it
been easy to operate a single one of them.

What's the reason why the remote doesn't work now? For
the television here in studio? So we normally don't have
to worry about this because we never have live sporting events,
so I just keep it on whatever was on from

But today I actually have a live sporting event, and
so for the first time in a long time, I
went over to grab the remote like seven different times
this morning, and it won't do anything. It won't change
input whatsoever.

The only way that I could change the television right
now is if I threw the remote through it.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
I mean, which might not be a bad idea. Ooh,
by the way, we did, I'm real jealous. Right now,
we got a text from the nine to one to
nine that says tremendous thunder and lightning and enum claw
right now.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Okay, I'm so jealous. So there you go.

Just think about the thunder and lightning, don't worry about
the TV remote, and the TV will.

Sort it out, or throw the remote at it and
sort it out. That way.

I'll never figure it out. I think it'll be a

All right, let's talk about the Mariners and Dan Wilson.
I started this week and started a little bit of
a conversational fire, at least around here. I don't know
what kind of an impact it had outside of here,
but Ian certainly ran with it, and Dick Fane certainly
ran with it on their shows that day on Monday.
(06:28):
It keeps coming up in the office. I mean, I'm
I'm not going to sit here and pretend like I've
gotten this unbelievable feedback. I mean, it's like miracle on
thirty fourth Street. I keep getting bags and bags of
mail being delivered to me wondering why I think Dan
Wilson should be fired. I'm not going to try to
exaggerate it, but certainly I don't take lightly asking for

a head coach or manager's job in this seat, on
this microphone at this radio station.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
But I did on Monday.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
I believe that it's time after what I watched on
that last road trip, particularly the Saturday. So I came
in Monday, despite the victory on Sunday and said, I
think that this team's going to achieve what it wants.

To achieve, then Dan Wilson needs to go.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
And so that's that's what I said on money. Well,
we've we've now had three days. Obviously nothing's going to
transpirefire on that front. Clearly, I am entirely powerless when
it comes to operating the Seattle Mariners.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Check.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Yeah, and if they would have done something, it would
have been done out of the All Star Bright. Not
that they ever even considered it or got close to it,
but maybe they should have at least considered. I hope
it was a conversation the fan base based off of
what we did on Monday, and Ashley didn't come out
and say it's time for Dan Wilson to go, but

she did say, I don't really have an argument against
what you're saying.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
I can't defend why he should stay.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
And yet most of the feedback, probably eighty five percent.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Of it has been in agreement. So I mean, I
get it.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
This is a frustrated fan base, maybe more so than
anyone out there in Major League Baseball because we've never
achieved World Series. You've never achieved World Series as in
fifty years of history not only not having won one,
but not having gone to one. So there's a and
a lot of losing, a lot of losing in fifty

years of marin or baseball. And so now that we
are winning, not necessarily championships, but we are winning, nobody
wants this thing screwed up, right, And that's kind of
at the heart of my argument. This is too important
of a year, This is too valuable of a season.
We might not have a season next year. It might
(08:54):
certainly get bitten into. Nobody feels good about sitting down
on the negotiating table this offseason. And I don't want
anything done to this window of championship opportunity that I
feel Jerry and Justin have done a very good job,
to great job of putting together. But here we sit
(09:18):
a game under five hundred at the All Star Break
with a team that not just.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Chuck, you know, Chuck loves Jerry.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
Now, no MLB Network, everybody that talks about the Mariners,
the conversation going on at the All Star break right now,
because inevitably it comes up in every long form conversation
with any paid baseball analyst.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Who's the disappointing team. It's the Mariners.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
We're a game under five hundred with a roster that
most to all people that evaluate such things for a
living believe it's the best or among the best in
the American League. And so at the heart of it,
I just do believe that a manager job, more so
than anything else, is to get the most out of

the talent given him, and I don't think that Dan
Wilson has I don't even think he did a year
ago until we made the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
But then again, we've been saying.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
For years every year if we make the playoffs, we're
dangerous because of our pitching, and the same thing can
be said about this team. But this team also we
felt good about the lineup, we felt good about the
character of this team, we felt good about the leadership
of this team, and yet here we sit with another
very frustrating first half. So I just felt it was
(10:35):
time and I knew that it wasn't going to happen.
And I would also add to that that I think
they can still win with Dan Wilson. I think that
we can still pull off I mean came close a
year ago. I still think that we can win with
Dan Wilson. But baseball is about playing the percentages, and
(10:56):
I think somebody else gives us a better chance at
getting there, at winning the division, steamrolling through the playoffs,
making it to a World Series, and maybe winning the
World Series. And So if we're going to look at
every single at b and base it on, what's our
highest percentage here to be successful, every single pitch in baseball,
(11:18):
what's our highest percentage chance to be successful and that
given moment, then why wouldn't we do that with our manager?
Why would we just stand on Well, we went with him,
We got to stick it out for a little while longer.
I just think it's too important of a season. I
think it's too good of a roster, and I'll give
them a little.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Bit more time.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
But I don't want to wait till August twenty second,
like you did two years ago with Scott Servis, when
the writing was on the wall that you needed to change,
and then you end up missing the playoffs by a
game because you probably sat on that decision one month
longer than you should have. I don't want to be
in that position this year, and this team on paper
is better than that team was two years ago. I
(11:59):
am not if I'm Jerry and justin floundering this opportunity
with this roster and all the hard work that went
into making this roster, because I have a manager that,
for whatever reason, is not pressing the right buttons.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
Yeah, and it is a concern. As I said, I
can't defend you. Look at his body of work starting
when he took over for Scott's service a year and
a half, two years ago, I guess, yeah, two years
ago ish almost too exactly. Yeah, And at the time
it was like, okay, here they needed a refresh. Now
they've got it. Here's Dan Wilson. He's going to guide
us through the end of the season. And it was promising.
(12:35):
But he also didn't have to deal with all the
rules and things that he has to deal with in
an entire season. And clearly he struggles with that, because
the only time where I think.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
It is clear too, by the way, I don't think
that's hyperbole. I think it is very clear he struggles with.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
You, yeah exactly, because then the time where he starts
to get more successful is when those towards the end
of the season, when those rules aren't in play as much.
I mean, he didn't have to deal with those when
he took over for Scott's service because they were making.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
A push towards the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
It was everybody all in, We're doing everything we can,
You're playing as much as you can.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
And then you know, we.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
Go to the playoffs and everything changes and he's still
not dealing with these rules. But then if you look
back to last year, there it was a slow start again,
it was a struggle again, it was.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
And it just continues to be the same issue all
the time.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
And I don't I mean, the Mariners always struggle in
the beginning of the season. So maybe it's just the
rules are the problem and nobody can handle it. But
it seems to have gotten worse, and it just seems
that Dan seems overwhelmed by them.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
I'm glad you brought this up because maybe we haven't
spent enough time explaining this. Like what she's talking about
with the rules is that I do believe the front
office sets forth rules. I don't think he's a puppet.
I mean, if he is, then I've been lied to.
And also I would also say shame on Dan Wilson,
how dare you be a puppet? Yeah, you've got to

take some responsibility.

This is your name out there.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Right exactly, So I would also throw at his feet.
If he's, well, this is what Jerry told me to do,
then shame on Dan Wilson. Okay, So I don't even
buy that argument from people that are trying to make it,
and I don't think that that's an accurate argument too.
But organizationally, certainly, and this happens in every front office,
they're all making different kind of rules. We don't want

this guy to do this. We don't want that guy
to do that. He can't go back to back days,
he can't go more than one inning. Everybody's got their own.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Set of rules. Mariners certainly have them.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
But also if you're the manager, give me the rules,
tell me what i'm working with. They're not so restrictive
that I can't piece together a great game plan from
inning number one through inning number nine. If it goes
beyond that, most teams these days are screwed.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
We don't have a plan for the tenth inning beyond.
And so that's why.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
Some teams end up throwing their shortstop, their backup shortstop
and the tenth inning for goodness sake, because they didn't
have a plan for that. That's how close they keep
it that's how the margin close to the margins are,
but nine innings, there's certainly, despite the rules, there's a
game plan that can be put together. And I just
think that his pitching changes have been worse this year
(15:11):
than a year ago. I sort of gave him a
pass a year ago because he was doing it for
the first time and he had all these rules. But
he's having a more difficult time this year than he
was a year ago. We ran out of relievers in
the middle of a road trip and had to like
change the goal of winning for two straight days in
(15:31):
Baltimore just to reset our bullpen because he'd ran out
of relievers somehow, even though our relievers have thrown fewer
innings than any bullpen in all of Major League Baseball?
How could that be an excuse? How could that be
a reason? I think he's also struggled with his pinch
hitting decisions, as we all know, And you want to
(15:53):
know how I know he struggled with it because they've
forced him to change how his philosophy on how he
operates rates with it. And the same thing. I mean,
we're not seeing Gabe Spier just go for a third
of an inning anymore, which was one of my biggest complaints.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
When he threw He went out and threw one pitch
and then was done for.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
A night and didn't pitch the next day either.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Yeah, so they're making they're making the changes that we
called for on this show weeks before.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
They've already made them. It's already an admission of.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Yeah, we weren't doing that the right way, right, So
maybe it will get better in the second half. And
like I said, I think Dan can still we can
still win with Dan Wilson as manager. I think we
can win the World Championship. And at that point, maybe
I end up with egg on my face. But okay,
I don't think we're incapable with Dan as our manager
of pulling off the goals that we set out at

the beginning of the season. I just think a new voice,
somebody else that's a little more seasoned with those decisions
and winning at the tail end of the year is
gives us a better chance to pull those things off.
And I want to mention one of the because this
has not come up during the course of this week
talking about what's a really difficult conversation for me. I

just don't feel comfortable a lot of people in this
industry feel really comfortable.

They love to just yell and rag on and on
about people losing their jobs.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Heads on spikes. Yeah, that guy sucks.

That guy's trash, that guy's garbage.

I don't. That's not the way that I operate.

So if I've arrived at this conclusion, you know I've
given a lot of thought and taken it very seriously.
But I will say one other thing that I have
not brought up this week. I don't even like his
body language during games. He looks nervous, he looks rattled,
he's chomping his gum. I mean he's shaking at times,
hands are in his back pockets or they're crossed body language.

I mean everybody reads body language or cross like this
if you can see me on YouTube where they're tightly
to your chest. I want a captain that's in control
of the ship. I want him to be the coolest customer.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
In the entire building.

I want him to at least act like I've got
it under control.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
Yeah, you want him to show confidence.

And I don't see that either.

Yeah, And I don't know if that rubs off on
the rest of the team. And he certainly is not
getting the most out of his talent, and he certainly,
despite all of his efforts to be everybody's buddy and
to have their back at all times, they're certainly not
going to war for him.

Ever? How many games have we walked away like, oh
they just a boy, they lost that game, but.

many times? How many losses have we come? No, that's
not the case. Silly mistakes, mental mistakes, sloppy play, terrible

would like to think that through a hundred games we

would see the team fight harder for Dan.

I would think so. And yeah, that part is on
the players.

Yeah. Well I didn't have many either. I had two

But sometimes that what's the appetite for somebody to like
movies more because they felt like they were restricted from
being able to do things that other kids do. So
when I at sixteen and I had my own license,
a little money in my pocket, I went. I mean
that was almost every date on a Saturday night was
going to the movies.

I can't I don't like to go somewhere where I
can't pause the movie or TV show to go to
the bathroom or reform.

it is there are other people in my house that
I have to consider as well. Although I did have

playoffs this year, I mean they will view that as
a catastrophic failure. Like this is the team, more so

than any other team in the Depoto era that they
believed this is. I mean, that was the marching orders.
Spring training was World Series or bust. Not necessarily, you know,
if we don't win the World Series, it's been a
bust of the year. But from the standpoint of we
have only one goal, and that goal is to win
the World Series. They've never spoken that way before, never,

never in the spring training of the players, executives and
managers talk that way.

So that's their goal, that's their mission, and it would
be crushing to them if they didn't achieve that. So

I mean, they're game and a half out of first
place right now. Fortunately, no one in the American league
has run away with anything. You've got the playoffs right
there in your grasp. You just have to play better,
just period. You just have to play better. You'll get

into the playoffs and then once you're in the playoffs,

As someone who has played soccer and have watched over
the years, they are in fact annoying every time they

huddle around him make It's like they're trying to put
pressure on the reft to make a call or change
a call or do something.

Bona fide superstars are really hard to trade for. Yeah, period,
much less in the middle of a season. I don't
think there's going to be one on the market. James

They are an up and coming team that's actually got

but dude can hit and run and has a still

But what has moved the needle a lot for me
during this World Cup here in the last month is
my watching other people who love soccer enjoy it so much.

been really nice to see others celebrate their sports Christmas

walking in Woodinville and I walked by a Mexican restaurant

because they were getting ready to say goodbye to one another,

But I asked Brad a little bit earlier today if

that they just seem to be able to get a
goal whenever they absolutely need a goal?

Here's Brad Well to me, they don't get any of
these results without Messi on the field. They don't win
that game without Messi on the pitch last night, yesterday afternoon.
And I really don't think so. They still have world
class players. I mean you're bringing off a player on
the bench who you know plays in Sari a Oh,
has been player of the year in Sarah Ah and
so there's still a stacked team, yes, But there's something

about when you have the greatest player playing with you
and you're playing for him, magic just tends to happen.
I mean, whether it's the Bulls Brady, you know Michael
Jordan with the Bulls Brady, who who named the athlete
that's great and consistently gets results, and we always ask
our questions why how, Well, that's why they're the greatest

is because sometimes we can't really explain it. And if
they do win this weekend, it will go down. I mean,
he has to be unequivocally the greatest soccer player of
all time because to me, they count you on your championships.
That's how every sport should be. And so for this
team to consistently get results, it's some crazy belief. I

really can't pinpoint it. It's like they always believe that
there is a chance to win in a game. They
could be down three to nothing. I mean you saw
it in Egypt two to nothing with what fifteen minutes
left in the game and then all of a sudden
come back and win three to two. Like these are
unheard of. Is there some grace from the referee? Yes
last night I thought Ishmael Elfatt, who's an MLS referee

and a whole m L crew. I thought he refereed
that game fantastic. There can't be one complaint about him
giving that game to Argentina. Argentina worked to win that
game yesterday. There were no handouts from anyone in my opinion,
so they just seem to have this maniacal way of

getting results. Whether it's ugly, it could be beautiful, it
could be we're going to foul England and try to
just cause a ruckus in the first fifteen minutes of
the game. But you hear it on the broadcast yesterday,
is like, after the second half started, Messi just started
getting into the game, finding the pockets where he needed
to be, and I think England just got a little

bit tired, and then England scores. All of a sudden,
Messi some demon awakens in him and says, I am
not losing today.

in regards to the Mariners, and I do want to
kind of catch up on that conversation here in a moment.
But I got to ask this. I mean, there have
been there's some great mysteries in the history of the world,
There's no question about it. Yeah, Yeah, like a Stonehenge

and Easter Island and the Voyanage manuscript is one, and
then what's in Bolooney, what's in Boloney Pyramids?

thing that I've never had trouble with is when I
get the new TV set up, or I've moved places,

or I got a new television or had to change
cable boxes, whatever might have occurred I can all the
remote always works.

What am I supposed to connect it to?

I can figure it out. I can figure out the batteries.

I've never had trouble. I have trouble with everything technology related,
never had trouble with the remote control. But I work

at a media company, the biggest in the world was
state of the art facilities. The best engineer I've ever
worked with, and I've worked with some good ones in
Terry Ryan, We've had five different.

We have had five different remotes, and never has it
been easy to operate a single one of them.

What's the reason why the remote doesn't work now? For
the television here in studio? So we normally don't have
to worry about this because we never have live sporting events,

But today I actually have a live sporting event, and
so for the first time in a long time, I
went over to grab the remote like seven different times
this morning, and it won't do anything. It won't change

The only way that I could change the television right
now is if I threw the remote through it.

I mean, which might not be a bad idea. Ooh,
by the way, we did, I'm real jealous. Right now,

right now.

Okay, I'm so jealous. So there you go.

Just think about the thunder and lightning, don't worry about
the TV remote, and the TV will.

All right, let's talk about the Mariners and Dan Wilson.
I started this week and started a little bit of
a conversational fire, at least around here. I don't know
what kind of an impact it had outside of here,
but Ian certainly ran with it, and Dick Fane certainly
ran with it on their shows that day on Monday.

It keeps coming up in the office. I mean, I'm
I'm not going to sit here and pretend like I've
gotten this unbelievable feedback. I mean, it's like miracle on
thirty fourth Street. I keep getting bags and bags of
mail being delivered to me wondering why I think Dan
Wilson should be fired. I'm not going to try to
exaggerate it, but certainly I don't take lightly asking for
(06:52):
a head coach or manager's job in this seat, on
this microphone at this radio station.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
But I did on Monday.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
I believe that it's time after what I watched on
that last road trip, particularly the Saturday. So I came
in Monday, despite the victory on Sunday and said, I
think that this team's going to achieve what it wants.

To achieve, then Dan Wilson needs to go.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
And so that's that's what I said on money. Well,
we've we've now had three days. Obviously nothing's going to
transpirefire on that front. Clearly, I am entirely powerless when
it comes to operating the Seattle Mariners.

Yeah, and if they would have done something, it would
have been done out of the All Star Bright. Not
that they ever even considered it or got close to it,
but maybe they should have at least considered. I hope
it was a conversation the fan base based off of
what we did on Monday, and Ashley didn't come out
and say it's time for Dan Wilson to go, but

she did say, I don't really have an argument against
what you're saying.

I can't defend why he should stay.

And yet most of the feedback, probably eighty five percent.

Of it has been in agreement. So I mean, I
get it.

This is a frustrated fan base, maybe more so than
anyone out there in Major League Baseball because we've never
achieved World Series. You've never achieved World Series as in
fifty years of history not only not having won one,
but not having gone to one. So there's a and
a lot of losing, a lot of losing in fifty

years of marin or baseball. And so now that we
are winning, not necessarily championships, but we are winning, nobody
wants this thing screwed up, right, And that's kind of
at the heart of my argument. This is too important
of a year, This is too valuable of a season.
We might not have a season next year. It might
(08:54):
certainly get bitten into. Nobody feels good about sitting down
on the negotiating table this offseason. And I don't want
anything done to this window of championship opportunity that I
feel Jerry and Justin have done a very good job,
to great job of putting together. But here we sit
(09:18):
a game under five hundred at the All Star Break
with a team that not just.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Chuck, you know, Chuck loves Jerry.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
Now, no MLB Network, everybody that talks about the Mariners,
the conversation going on at the All Star break right now,
because inevitably it comes up in every long form conversation
with any paid baseball analyst.

Who's the disappointing team. It's the Mariners.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
We're a game under five hundred with a roster that
most to all people that evaluate such things for a
living believe it's the best or among the best in
the American League. And so at the heart of it,
I just do believe that a manager job, more so
than anything else, is to get the most out of

the talent given him, and I don't think that Dan
Wilson has I don't even think he did a year
ago until we made the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
But then again, we've been saying.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
For years every year if we make the playoffs, we're
dangerous because of our pitching, and the same thing can
be said about this team. But this team also we
felt good about the lineup, we felt good about the
character of this team, we felt good about the leadership
of this team, and yet here we sit with another
very frustrating first half. So I just felt it was
(10:35):
time and I knew that it wasn't going to happen.
And I would also add to that that I think
they can still win with Dan Wilson. I think that
we can still pull off I mean came close a
year ago. I still think that we can win with
Dan Wilson. But baseball is about playing the percentages, and
(10:56):
I think somebody else gives us a better chance at
getting there, at winning the division, steamrolling through the playoffs,
making it to a World Series, and maybe winning the
World Series. And So if we're going to look at
every single at b and base it on, what's our
highest percentage here to be successful, every single pitch in baseball,
(11:18):
what's our highest percentage chance to be successful and that
given moment, then why wouldn't we do that with our manager?
Why would we just stand on Well, we went with him,
We got to stick it out for a little while longer.
I just think it's too important of a season. I
think it's too good of a roster, and I'll give
them a little.

Bit more time.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
But I don't want to wait till August twenty second,
like you did two years ago with Scott Servis, when
the writing was on the wall that you needed to change,
and then you end up missing the playoffs by a
game because you probably sat on that decision one month
longer than you should have. I don't want to be
in that position this year, and this team on paper
is better than that team was two years ago. I

am not if I'm Jerry and justin floundering this opportunity
with this roster and all the hard work that went
into making this roster, because I have a manager that,
for whatever reason, is not pressing the right buttons.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
Yeah, and it is a concern. As I said, I
can't defend you. Look at his body of work starting
when he took over for Scott's service a year and
a half, two years ago, I guess, yeah, two years
ago ish almost too exactly. Yeah, And at the time
it was like, okay, here they needed a refresh. Now
they've got it. Here's Dan Wilson. He's going to guide
us through the end of the season. And it was promising.
(12:35):
But he also didn't have to deal with all the
rules and things that he has to deal with in
an entire season. And clearly he struggles with that, because
the only time where I think.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
It is clear too, by the way, I don't think
that's hyperbole. I think it is very clear he struggles with.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
You, yeah exactly, because then the time where he starts
to get more successful is when those towards the end
of the season, when those rules aren't in play as much.
I mean, he didn't have to deal with those when
he took over for Scott's service because they were making.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
A push towards the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
It was everybody all in, We're doing everything we can,
You're playing as much as you can.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
And then you know, we.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
Go to the playoffs and everything changes and he's still
not dealing with these rules. But then if you look
back to last year, there it was a slow start again,
it was a struggle again, it was.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
And it just continues to be the same issue all
the time.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
And I don't I mean, the Mariners always struggle in
the beginning of the season. So maybe it's just the
rules are the problem and nobody can handle it. But
it seems to have gotten worse, and it just seems
that Dan seems overwhelmed by them.

I'm glad you brought this up because maybe we haven't
spent enough time explaining this. Like what she's talking about
with the rules is that I do believe the front
office sets forth rules. I don't think he's a puppet.

they're all making different kind of rules. We don't want

to do that. He can't go back to back days,
he can't go more than one inning. Everybody's got their own.

But also if you're the manager, give me the rules,
tell me what i'm working with. They're not so restrictive
that I can't piece together a great game plan from
inning number one through inning number nine. If it goes
beyond that, most teams these days are screwed.

We don't have a plan for the tenth inning beyond.
And so that's why.

Some teams end up throwing their shortstop, their backup shortstop
and the tenth inning for goodness sake, because they didn't
have a plan for that. That's how close they keep
it that's how the margin close to the margins are,
but nine innings, there's certainly, despite the rules, there's a
game plan that can be put together. And I just
think that his pitching changes have been worse this year

than a year ago. I sort of gave him a
pass a year ago because he was doing it for
the first time and he had all these rules. But
he's having a more difficult time this year than he
was a year ago. We ran out of relievers in
the middle of a road trip and had to like
change the goal of winning for two straight days in

Baltimore just to reset our bullpen because he'd ran out
of relievers somehow, even though our relievers have thrown fewer
innings than any bullpen in all of Major League Baseball?
How could that be an excuse? How could that be
a reason? I think he's also struggled with his pinch
hitting decisions, as we all know, And you want to
(15:53):
know how I know he struggled with it because they've
forced him to change how his philosophy on how he
operates rates with it. And the same thing. I mean,
we're not seeing Gabe Spier just go for a third
of an inning anymore, which was one of my biggest complaints.

When he threw He went out and threw one pitch
and then was done for.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
A night and didn't pitch the next day either.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Yeah, so they're making they're making the changes that we
called for on this show weeks before.

They've already made them. It's already an admission of.

Yeah, we weren't doing that the right way, right, So
maybe it will get better in the second half. And
like I said, I think Dan can still we can
still win with Dan Wilson as manager. I think we
can win the World Championship. And at that point, maybe
I end up with egg on my face. But okay,
I don't think we're incapable with Dan as our manager
of pulling off the goals that we set out at

the beginning of the season. I just think a new voice,
somebody else that's a little more seasoned with those decisions
and winning at the tail end of the year is
gives us a better chance to pull those things off.
And I want to mention one of the because this
has not come up during the course of this week
talking about what's a really difficult conversation for me. I

just don't feel comfortable a lot of people in this
industry feel really comfortable.

They love to just yell and rag on and on
about people losing their jobs.

So if I've arrived at this conclusion, you know I've
given a lot of thought and taken it very seriously.
But I will say one other thing that I have
not brought up this week. I don't even like his
body language during games. He looks nervous, he looks rattled,
he's chomping his gum. I mean he's shaking at times,
hands are in his back pockets or they're crossed body language.

I mean everybody reads body language or cross like this
if you can see me on YouTube where they're tightly
to your chest. I want a captain that's in control
of the ship. I want him to be the coolest customer.

In the entire building.

I want him to at least act like I've got
it under control.

Yeah, you want him to show confidence.

And I don't see that either.

the rest of the team. And he certainly is not
getting the most out of his talent, and he certainly,
despite all of his efforts to be everybody's buddy and
to have their back at all times, they're certainly not
going to war for him.

Ever? How many games have we walked away like, oh

But sometimes that what's the appetite for somebody to like

being able to do things that other kids do. So
when I at sixteen and I had my own license,
a little money in my pocket, I went. I mean
that was almost every date on a Saturday night was
going to the movies.

I can't I don't like to go somewhere where I
can't pause the movie or TV show to go to
the bathroom or reform.

Like if they don't, I mean, they might not win

really hard to predict. But if they aren't in the
playoffs this year, I mean they will view that as
a catastrophic failure. Like this is the team, more so

than any other team in the Depoto era that they
believed this is. I mean, that was the marching orders.
Spring training was World Series or bust. Not necessarily, you know,
if we don't win the World Series, it's been a
bust of the year. But from the standpoint of we
have only one goal, and that goal is to win
the World Series. They've never spoken that way before, never,

never in the spring training of the players, executives and
managers talk that way.

They all talked that way this spring.

So that's their goal, that's their mission, and it would
be crushing to them if they didn't achieve that. So

I mean, they're game and a half out of first
place right now. Fortunately, no one in the American league
has run away with anything. You've got the playoffs right
there in your grasp. You just have to play better,
just period. You just have to play better. You'll get

into the playoffs and then once you're in the playoffs,
pitching wins.

As someone who has played soccer and have watched over
the years, they are in fact annoying every time they

to swarm around the ref to oh come on, guys,
huddle around him make It's like they're trying to put
pressure on the reft to make a call or change
a call or do something.

I'll say this. I feel like they all do that.
But I think you might be right. Argentina might be
the worst at it. I mean I'm sicking of that
just in general, right in the sport, Like it's just

I don't like that about the sport, and I do
believe some teams are worse than others, and maybe Argentina
is the absolute worst of them about that, but they're

So if James Woods was even remotely available, what would
you be willing to part with to inforce some offense
and juice to this baseball team? Well, it says, I know,
we traded for Naylor and Gina last year, but haven't

Bona fide superstars are really hard to trade for. Yeah, period,
much less in the middle of a season. I don't
think there's going to be one on the market. James
Woods certainly is not going.

They are an up and coming team that's actually got
I think the exact same record that we do. So
number one, I don't think they're going to be selling

a better chance to see Jay Abrams because Abrams is
closer to free agency. But we don't really need a

middle infielder, not that he's a very good one defensively,
but dude can hit and run and has a still
has a big upside. So no, James Wood's that's a
pipe dream.

given Josh Allen some more weapons, and I just think
Josh Allen does continue to get better and better, and

was his It wasn't his worst playoff game. He had

one of the worst playoff games ever. Yeah, ever by
a quarterback. But this last year, this past year, he
was the reason they lost.

As I mentioned before, I'm not a soccer fan, and
maybe I have enjoyed it more than at any time
in my life in this last month, and it has
moved the needle a little bit for me, but not dramatically.
But what has moved the needle a lot for me
during this World Cup here in the last month is
my watching other people who love soccer enjoy it so much.

Maybe it's because I've just become soft, maybe I got
a soft heart all of a sudden, but it has
been really nice to see others celebrate their sports Christmas
here the last month and last night, Ashley, I'm out
walking in Woodinville and I walked by a Mexican restaurant
and it's like five o'clock.

I the match was over at two, yeah, and.

It's five five thirty at that point, and I see
some guy in Argentina, Jersey and his buddy coming out
of the of this Mexican restaurant, new Mexican restaurant actually,
and they're just still celebrating. They're like hugging each other
like bro hugs, three hours after the match was over. Time, yeah,
because they were getting ready to say goodbye to one another,

but there was just like time.

For one more big, massive bro hug. I thought it
was great.

I mean, that's been half the fun is seeing all
the fans and all the people that are enjoying this.
I mean, even before the match yesterday, did you see
the videos online of all the Argentina fans in Atlanta
and all the England fans singing Hey Juda at their
bar in Atlanta.

I mean, I just that's the stuff. I love.

The magnitude of it has been very enjoyable, yes, and
watching it all unfold, so I've had fun. I've had
fun too doing the World Cup. I've had fun talking
to all of our experts, including Brad Evans, and I
think I picked up a few things along the way.
I think I'm understanding the game a little bit more.
But I asked Brad a little bit earlier today if

you didn't hear it, like, what is it about Argentina
that they just seem to be able to get a
goal whenever they absolutely need a goal?
Speaker 2 (31:29):
Is it luck? Is it skill? Is it something else?
Speaker 5 (31:33):
Here's Brad Well to me, they don't get any of
these results without Messi on the field. They don't win
that game without Messi on the pitch last night, yesterday afternoon.
And I really don't think so. They still have world
class players. I mean you're bringing off a player on
the bench who you know plays in Sari a Oh,
has been player of the year in Sarah Ah and
so there's still a stacked team, yes, But there's something

about when you have the greatest player playing with you
and you're playing for him, magic just tends to happen.
I mean, whether it's the Bulls Brady, you know Michael
Jordan with the Bulls Brady, who who named the athlete
that's great and consistently gets results, and we always ask
our questions why how, Well, that's why they're the greatest
(32:17):
is because sometimes we can't really explain it. And if
they do win this weekend, it will go down. I mean,
he has to be unequivocally the greatest soccer player of
all time because to me, they count you on your championships.
That's how every sport should be. And so for this
team to consistently get results, it's some crazy belief. I
(32:38):
really can't pinpoint it. It's like they always believe that
there is a chance to win in a game. They
could be down three to nothing. I mean you saw
it in Egypt two to nothing with what fifteen minutes
left in the game and then all of a sudden
come back and win three to two. Like these are
unheard of. Is there some grace from the referee? Yes
last night I thought Ishmael Elfatt, who's an MLS referee
(32:59):
and a whole m L crew. I thought he refereed
that game fantastic. There can't be one complaint about him
giving that game to Argentina. Argentina worked to win that
game yesterday. There were no handouts from anyone in my opinion,
so they just seem to have this maniacal way of

getting results. Whether it's ugly, it could be beautiful, it
could be we're going to foul England and try to
just cause a ruckus in the first fifteen minutes of
the game. But you hear it on the broadcast yesterday,
is like, after the second half started, Messi just started
getting into the game, finding the pockets where he needed
to be, and I think England just got a little

bit tired, and then England scores. All of a sudden,
Messi some demon awakens in him and says, I am
not losing today.
