Speaker 2 (00:17):
Aaron Donald, unretiring.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Joining the Rams. One year, $ 20 million deal.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
Could be worth up to $ 30 million.
Speaker 5 (00:24):
I think we should talk to our next guest about
that right now.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Let's just start right there.
Speaker 5 (00:28):
Because this wreaked the entire time of a guy that
wanted nothing to do with training camp and was going
to come back the minute training camp was over. And
that's what Aaron Donald just did. Uh, they get miles Garrett.
They also get Aaron Donald. So they get a kind
of a two for one deal there.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Right.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
But there'll be 35 years.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Oh, he is 35.
Speaker 5 (00:45):
He'll be 36 in may. How much does the old
man have left in the tank? Well, speaking of old men,
Hugh Millen joins us right now on the radio program.
Speaker 6 (00:54):
How are you, bud?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
I'm doing great.
Speaker 6 (00:57):
Uh, I'm doing a little less well when I learned about, uh, uh, Donald, uh, but, uh, I, uh,
you know, I think we all anticipated this and, and
away we go. You know, they've got the Rams since
we last played them, the Rams have acquired the player
that has the most sacks in NFL history before the
(01:20):
age of 30. And by the way, it's not close.
He he's run away ahead of second and third place and, uh,
Trent McDuffie and all pro and, uh, you know, and,
donald and i keep wanting to say don't say donald
donald he has eight eight time first team all pro
and that's in addition to his rookie of the year
(01:41):
so uh he's a beast he's in the top four
defensive players i've ever seen in my life uh all
we can hope for is that you know he's he
you know father time and it took a little bite
out of him.
Speaker 5 (01:54):
Well how much does it move the needle towards the
rams for you the fact that donald is now a
member of the rams i i.
Speaker 6 (02:01):
I think a little bit for now, I want to see,
you know, I kind of like the idea that, that
we'll play them later. When, you know, maybe, maybe they're,
they've kind of gassed out who, who knows what will happen.
I'm not rooting for injuries necessarily, but, but let's just
kind of see. I can remember when the, the Redskins
few years back, they made all these incredible acquisitions, paid
(02:24):
a lot of money for a lot of stars. Seemed
like it was, you know, a pro bowl team they
were buying and, and they just didn't gel. And, And
they just kind of fell apart at the seams. And
so we can't say for sure that this is going
to come together, but it's certainly a challenge, to say
(02:46):
the least, on paper right now.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Hugh, 9-9 in the final preseason game. But Jalen Milrow,
we were looking for something from Jalen Milrow, and I
think we got something, right?
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Maybe even a little more than something.
Speaker 6 (03:01):
Well, I think he navigated the pocket very well. When
he moved, he was supposed to move when there was
times where he could stand in there and kind of
throw out of a phone booth.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
He did that.
Speaker 6 (03:16):
I think his decisions about where the ball went were
very good. A quick check down he had was one
that he processed early, got the ball to tight end's
hands and got a good run after the catch. We
had seen too many times where he's quick to the
check down, and then you watch the tape and you're saying,
(03:36):
wait a minute, you're turning down professional completions down the field.
And so I feel like he was challenged in that
regard to push it. In the prior two preseason games,
he had three completions where the ball was 10 yards,
air yards, 10 yards or more from the line of scrimmage.
He had five on Friday. And four of them were
(03:59):
between the numbers where you have to kind of process
more defenders. And I won't go through all of the five,
but the anticipation on the intermediate stuff, you know, throwing
on time so he can get run after the catch,
you know, standing and his mechanics. He doesn't need to
really get his body behind the throw to generate a
(04:21):
lot of velocity. He can just kind of stand there
and snap his hips. I'd like to know how far
he can hit a golf ball because with hips like that,
you know, I would presume would be a long way.
You know, just the athleticism translated to quarterbacking and the
accuracy as well. But, you know, the movement, probably my
(04:43):
favorite play of it was the movement play where It
was a cover zero, all out blitz. He got six
guys blocking six, but he had to slide to his left,
then flip his hips around and throw to an in
route on man coverage. It was Henderson for a 26
yarder down to the one yard line. That was some
(05:03):
really elite level quarterbacking on that particular play. And so
very good night for him.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Great to advance.
Speaker 6 (05:12):
I don't think that means we're out of the woods
with them. because it's one night, and we've seen him
six times, six preseason games. The regular season games, I'm
not going to count because he hasn't been given anything,
but it's nice to see that there was a big
jump in this last one.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
How does he help the Seahawks this year?
Speaker 6 (05:28):
I don't think he does. I don't think there's any
sign that Mike McDonald wants to see a package for him. Now,
they may spring it on us on Wednesday night, and
then I'll confess to having been asleep at the wheel
at that possibility. But, you know, he didn't have but
(05:49):
one running attack, a rush attempt, I should say, on
a design run. And even that was, depending on how
you want to call a read zone keep, I mean,
the offensive line's blocking away to the right and he
keeps the ball in the alley, which he should. That's
a good decision. He got a touchdown and got called back.
But that's the first time he's kept the ball on
(06:10):
a design run or even a remotely, as I described,
semi-designed run. And so if Mike McDonald was looking to
see how that might have played out in the preseason,
he never showed it.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Let's go to the cornerback position, Hugh.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
What did you see from Diggs, and what does it
tell you that John Schneider is trading for a corner
on the 11th hour before the regular season?
Speaker 6 (06:39):
Yeah, it tells me what it tells you, apparently. You know,
I think that when you see the kind of activity
we've had in training camp with the corners, then they're
telling you right to your face that they're not liking
what they see in practice. And I think that the
(06:59):
guy that I was, you know, really had my spotlight
on was Nehemiah Pritchett because he came, he started, at
the very first practice with the number ones, then he
fell off. I think he's played better in the last
week or 10 days. And so I think maybe he's
(07:20):
rehabilitated himself, but they still feel like there's some holes there.
You know, they acquire Avery Smith, you know, that that's
probably just a very small upgrade. I tried to watch
some charger.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Tape on him.
Speaker 6 (07:37):
It doesn't jump out at me that he has a
lot more upside than Andre Fuller or D'Anthony Bell, but
they watched more tape of that than me. He has
141 snaps in the preseason, which is a lot, only
52 are the outside, so maybe that's suggestive that they
really want that nickel spot, what's often termed the star position,
(08:01):
that strong outside linebacker in the passing situation, or in
the dime spot that maybe he's He's thought to be
that guy, but maybe he's an outside guy.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
I don't know what their plans are for Avery Smith.
He's freshly a Seahawk. But all of the activity shows
you that there's concern, in my opinion.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
No question. Well, what about the running back spot?
Speaker 5 (08:22):
I mean, you've got three guys that have combined for
five NFL touchdowns. They've combined for 147 carries in their
NFL careers. and last year they went for 569 yards rushing.
I'm not including Price because he didn't play, but he's
part of it. He's a rookie. He's done nothing. So
(08:45):
you tell me about the depth at running back for
at least the first month of the year before Charbonnet
comes back. I don't think they have a two, and
I don't know if they have a one. I mean,
George Helani– I'll climb into an octagon and fight you
on that one. And now he's a valuable player to
the Seahawks because of his versatility. He's a nice utility
(09:06):
infielder who can play some outfield. There's a lot of
things he does. Just look at all his special teams
reps on all the different coverage units and kick units.
I think he's very good in the pass protection game.
He does a lot of things. But in terms of
first and 10, I'm going to hand this guy the ball.
(09:26):
You know, and I want to go to the Super Bowl?
Speaker 2 (09:28):
No.
Speaker 6 (09:29):
Emmanuel Wilson. I watched every single, I don't want to
say play, but I certainly saw every carry he had
with the Packers. You know, I think he's a two
at best. We'll see what he can show. So he's somewhere.
I'm open to the idea that he can look like
(09:50):
a two or a three, but I'm going to have
to You're going to have to really pour in a
lot of evidence to get me to to, to say
that Emmanuel Wilson is a, is one of the top
32 running backs in the NFL. And then that leaves
Jadarian price. Let me go back to a year ago. So, uh,
first of all, let me remind you, Jadarian price was
the second running back in the, in the draft, right?
Speaker 7 (10:13):
Right.
Speaker 6 (10:13):
Cause Jeremiah love was a top five. Well, you had
a very similar situation in 2000, and 25 in the draft,
where you had Ashton Gentry in the top 10, like
Jeremiah Love, and then you had the next guy was
Amarian Hampton, 22nd pick, the second running back in the draft,
(10:37):
taken at the end of the first round, just like Price.
Amarian Hampton had, in that last year at North Carolina,
he had 26.6 touches per game. With Jadarian Price, and
by the way, when I say touches, that's counting rushes
(10:58):
and receiving. He had 23.4 rushes per game, talking about Hampton. Meanwhile, Price,
Jadarian Price, he had 9.9 touches last year. So you
had a guy in the same position a year ago
that was at 27 touches and And Price is under 10,
(11:21):
you know, 9.4 carries, by the way. So, you know,
you're asking a lot on a load who's a guy
that my first thought when I eyeballed him, actually, I'm
going to go back to draft night when I thought,
wait a minute, on his combine, he weighed 10 pounds
less than his listed weight at Notre Dame. So there's
(11:43):
a concern for me right off the bat from his
His weight, and then you see him in practice, his
legs look kind of wide receiver-ish. There's a lot to
like about Jadarian Price. Just the acceleration, the vision. He's
a playmaker, for sure. But he's going to get thumped.
He's going to get racked around, and we don't have
(12:05):
that body of work from his college days to suggest
that he can take the load. in the manner that
I've been describing with these numbers. So to me, there's
enough of a question mark that you're concerned since we're
not talking about a team that was 8-9 last year
(12:25):
and then we're trying to see if we can make
the playoffs. You're trying to go back-to-back. And there's more
than one concern at that running back position, in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Hugh, let's go to wide receiver. We were discussing... Shahid
earlier on the show.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
And I said, you know, I like Shahid, but I
keep hearing Hugh Millen's voice.
Speaker 7 (12:45):
In my head.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
And I was saying that he's not a very good
wide receiver.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
And what I meant by that was there's very good
and there's something less than very good. And when you
say that there's no number two wide receiver on this team,
I'm assuming you don't believe that a very good wide
receiver would be a third wide receiver. But maybe you're wrong.
Maybe I'm wrong about that. Give us again your opinion
of him as a wide receiver.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (13:08):
Well, yeah, we're going to go into a thought. I
feel similar about the wide receivers that I do with
the running backs. I feel like there's kind of a
hole at the number two, that there's guys that look
like candidates to be the third, but nobody just leaps
out at me to be the second. All right, let's
talk about Shahid. You're paying $ 17 million. He'd be the
most likely candidate. Torrey Horton may come on when he
(13:30):
gets healthy, but we can focus on Shahid. Cup has
probably passed his prime to be really a legit two.
Maybe I'm wrong. He had a hell of a camp,
so maybe he's found the fountain of the youth. But
Let's go back to a year ago, 12 games for Shahid.
He was on a pace for 377 yards per game.
Speaker 8 (13:47):
Right.
Speaker 6 (13:47):
Like his– or excuse me, 377 for a 17-game season. Obviously,
not 377 yards per game.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
He was 22 yards per game.
Speaker 6 (13:52):
Matches his jersey number. So you carry that out times 17,
that's 377.
Speaker 7 (13:54):
So– Um, what is it?
Speaker 2 (14:07):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (14:08):
So those are the numbers he's, he, by the way,
he's in, he's played four years in the league. He's
never had a season, uh, where he's matched 720 yards
or more.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
Right.
Speaker 6 (14:17):
Uh, now last year he was on the pace with,
with the, uh, saints. He was on a pace to
hit nine 42, which would have been a career high
by over 200 yards. Um, but, but okay. Then now
throw on the tape the same way wide receiver looks
very innate and to Jackson Smith and jig, but he
has a feeling for how to set up a man
(14:39):
coverage guy in zone. He, he, he knows the timing of,
of how to, to make a move and then, and
then get into a hole, get quarterback friendly, turn his
numbers when the ball.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Is in the air.
Speaker 6 (14:52):
He tracks it right off the quarterback's hands. He'll even,
you know, on a deeper ball, he'll put his body
on a defender because he knows right, you know, like
a center fielder off the crack of a bat. He
knows where the ball is going and he puts his
body in a position to block and then he has
the late hands and the secure hands. All of the
things that you say, forget athleticism. What are unique skills
(15:18):
about a wide receiver? Well, JSN, we already have the model.
We see it. We see the highest level of wide
receiver nuanced skill on the planet, and we see them
every Sunday.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
So in.
Speaker 6 (15:33):
In Shahid, it's the opposite. Being a wide receiver looks difficult.
It takes him a long time to slow down. When
he does speed cuts, he throws his shoulder back, and
it's like pulling a parachute. When he goes into a zone,
he'll settle too early sometimes. Going towards the north zone,
(15:57):
I don't remember the opponent, but I remember a wide
open hole and, and Sam Darnold is smoking it into
this window. It would have been, it would have been
a 25 yard gain and, and Shahid slowed down too soon.
And it ends up looking like a bad pass. And
it's like Shahid somewhere. Somebody told him, remember now you
got to slow down in a zone.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Well, okay.
Speaker 7 (16:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (16:19):
You were slowing down in zone, but you slowed down
too soon and too close to the, the, the nearest defender,
you know, like, like, go into the hole where Darnold
knew it was on a deep ball. Uh, you know,
he starts to cross the corner's face and then he goes,
go back over top. Now the ball's way to the
inside and you look back and you go, how did
Darnold miss that, that post by so much? And he go, Oh,
(16:40):
because the wide receiver deked him, start, he started to
cross the face and went behind him. Like, like guys that,
you know, you know, JSN would just intuitively know, never
do that. And so, so all of the things, you know,
he's a beautiful runner, uh, My God, I mean, I
love watching him run. He's a two-time Pro Bowl guy
(17:01):
as a returner. So the skill and with the ball
in his hand, he is so fluid. So there's elements
of his athleticism, obviously, that are incredible. But, you know,
wide receiver, no. Now, today's his 28th birthday. Happy birthday, Rasheed.
And so we'll see what that means later. in terms
(17:23):
of his development, but it's not going to be a secret.
If we get midway through the season and he has
come on and he's hitting the numbers, we're not going
to wonder why. We're going to know the answer why.
Because he had an offseason with Sam Darnold. He was
acquired on November 4th. He didn't have the training camp.
He didn't have the offseason. And with all that work,
he and Sam Darnold developed a cohesion. that we're going
(17:47):
to know we're already going to reverse it. We can
reverse engineer that now. And we haven't even seen the
end product. If he becomes the guy, it's going to
be because of that.
Speaker 8 (17:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (17:57):
But until we see it, there's enough things that, that
I see the tape and I don't see an instinctive receiver.
You're asking me to say, okay, yeah, he's got to
get cohesion, but he's also got to become more instinctive.
Maybe cup can accelerate that process that helped JSN. So
maybe cup can help him. you know, kind of understand
the craft of receiving. So there's all good reasons to
(18:20):
be optimistic. But for me personally, until I see it,
I'm not saying he's a clear number two.
Speaker 5 (18:26):
All right, good stuff. We've got to run, and we
will talk on Friday before the Apple Cup, all right?
Speaker 6 (18:30):
Hammer down.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
All right, boys. All right, Hugh Millen with us. We're
going to break.
Speaker 5 (18:33):
Don't forget, speaking of the Apple Cup, the debut for
2026 of the Husky football coaches' show with Jed Fish.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
Elyse Woodward, Damon Hewitt at 6 p.m. tonight from Eureka,
U Village. Hear that at 6 tonight right here on
93.3 KJRFM.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
This is Duke of Duke Seafood, and this hour is
brought to you by Duke Seafood. Why don't you make
it a Duke's night tonight? Reserve your table today at dukesseafood.com. Now,
back to Softie and Dick on Sports Radio 93.3 KJR FM.
Speaker 5 (19:05):
All right, well, we live in a world now where
Aaron Donald's back playing for the Rams, guys. Yes.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Along with Miles Garrett.
Speaker 5 (19:11):
I agree with what Millen said last segment, that there
may not be a team in the NFL that added
more firepower over the offseason than the Rams.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
You see Eamon Worry's tweet, by the way, about that today?
All that for us. Got Aaron Donald for us. That's
pretty good. Yeah, I mean, they want to win a championship, obviously.
Speaker 5 (19:27):
So if the Chiefs had won, the Bills had won,
anybody else had won, I guess it'd be for that team.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
But I don't know, man.
Speaker 5 (19:34):
I mean, I'm not sweating the Donald thing the way
other people are. I still think they're– I think the
Rams would have been a pain in the ass whether
he's there or not.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
Of course, and the fact that it moved– the line
moved from plus 700 to plus 500 because of a
part-time defensive lineman. Well, he's not– to be a part-time
defensive lineman because he's not going to be able to
play 70% of the snaps at his age.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
I think he'll play plenty of snaps.
Speaker 5 (19:56):
Well, first of all, does anybody play 70% of the
snaps on defensive line?
Speaker 3 (19:59):
You're talking about the year ago when he finally does play. Yeah.
Because he might miss the first couple weeks of the year. Right.
Speaker 5 (20:05):
Who knows if he even plays until late September. But
I think by the time he gets going... He'll be
playing plenty. I just don't know how good he is.
I mean, he's 35, man. At some point, the guy
was going to take a step back. It was natural
that he'd be taking a step back at the age
of 35. And they're good no matter what. The Rams
are going to be good no matter what. I mean,
to have the Aaron Donald, I'm totally with you. To
(20:27):
move the line like that, does Vegas think he plays quarterback?
Speaker 4 (20:30):
That's the only position that should move a line like that.
And it's just insane that a mid-30s defensive line would
move the line line.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
But that's fine.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
I mean, hey, crown them, right? Crown their asses. I
want them plus 500.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
And, you know, this stat that's going around, over the
last 30 years, there's been a preseason favorite of plus
500 or better 20 times in.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
The last 30 years.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
And they've never won.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
And they've never won. So, now, if you're a Rams believer,
you're like, well, God, if you're giving me 5-1 odds...
20 times in a row, I'm probably going to, I
got a pretty good chance to hit it on the 21st. Eventually, yeah.
But what that is saying is it's not really a 5-1, right?
That the 5-1 is so, no team should ever be
(21:17):
a 5-1 preseason favorite to win the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Who's next?
Speaker 2 (21:21):
There is too much parity in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
Who's next after them?
Speaker 4 (21:25):
I know the Bills and the Ravens and the Seahawks
are right. Do we know what the difference is? I
think plus 1,000 is next.
Speaker 5 (21:34):
Well, I'm looking at the Seahawks last year played the
Rams three times, and they lost by two, one by one,
one by four. All three of those games could have
gone the exact opposite way.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
Bills at 10, Seahawks 11, Ravens at 12.
Speaker 5 (21:46):
Well, so for the Bills to be 2-1 what the
Rams are, that's a pretty big difference, man. I mean,
for Vegas to think the Rams are that big a
favorite where they are clearly the biggest favorite on the
board and the difference between them and number two is
the same difference between number two and number five.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
Number two and number five. That's pretty damn significant.
Speaker 5 (22:07):
That's Vegas Jackson telling you they think the Rams are
the best team in the NFL by a large margin.
Speaker 8 (22:11):
I gotta be honest. I think all I'm hearing right now, listen,
I'm a Seahawks fan as much as you guys are,
but this sounds like coping to me. All of this
just sounds like coping. He's 35. I get it, but
we've all.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
The Garrett thing, I understand.
Speaker 7 (22:24):
Totally. Hold on, hold on, hold on.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
Pause.
Speaker 8 (22:27):
We're talking about somebody who, upon retiring from the NFL,
treated his life as if he was still playing in
the NFL. I've gone over his Instagram account. It's insane
the way that he treats his body and the way
that he behaves. He may not have been playing NFL games,
but this dude is as jacked. I mean, he deadlifted
(22:48):
his wife with one arm like she was a bag
of McNuggets.
Speaker 7 (22:52):
Like, it's nothing.
Speaker 8 (22:54):
He is unreal in his shape at 35 years old.
So to say like, we don't know this guy is
ready to jump back in. I feel like, and then again,
like Dick, you got to talk about the stats of
like other teams and like favorites and odds and stuff.
No team has built a super team. Like the Rams
have built a super team right now.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
I don't know.
Speaker 8 (23:14):
It's sort of like when you had big threes in
NBA really starting, and what happened?
Speaker 7 (23:19):
They all went to the title games. Heat, Thunder, they
all went.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
All right, all right.
Speaker 7 (23:24):
This feels like that.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Okay, first of all, I totally agree with the super
team thing. Number one, what I'm saying to you, Jackson
and Dick, is that my thoughts on the Rams being
a pain in the ass are the same now as
they were six months ago or three months ago.
Speaker 5 (23:40):
Whenever they traded for Garrett, that hasn't changed. I think
the Rams are a major problem no matter what.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
Well, you also baked in the Donald thing the last
two months, right? We all thought that Donald was going
to be on the team. But I'm not even talking
about the Donald thing, all right? I mean, the Donald
thing doesn't move it that much for me. Like, Vegas
moved it from plus 7 to plus 5.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
That's bananas.
Speaker 5 (24:00):
This is a team that, even if they did nothing
over the offseason, they got no McDuffie, they got no Watson,
they got no Garrett, they got no Donald, they're still
a problem because you beat them by one, four, and
lost by two. We just got done saying all three
of those games could have gone the exact opposite way.
The Hawks could have lost all three, and the Hawks
(24:21):
could have won all three. So the Rams are going
to be a pain in our ass no matter what.
Have they closed the gap? I don't think the gap
was even... There was even a gap. There is no gap.
These are the same teams. These two teams are the
exact same. So what happened a year ago? They got lucky.
They got a little bit of luck. And I think
when you win a championship, you have to have something
(24:41):
lucky go your way. Charbonnet with a two-point conversion. The
fourth down play, obviously, against the Rams in the NFC Championship.
They built for that moment. They practiced for the moment.
Give them credit for it. I just don't think anything
at the end of the year, even before the Rams
went out and got McDuffie and Watson, when they made
that deal with Kansas city, if you, again, just told
me that that exact same team was coming back, I'd
(25:03):
be scared.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
You know, what less of them anyway, right?
Speaker 4 (25:06):
Anyway, but to Jackson's point on the Instagram posts and stuff, I,
We always knew he was strong, but there is no
replacement for two years of no live bullets. There's no
preparing for that. And there is no way he is
as quick as he was two years ago with zero
live snaps in 24 months.
Speaker 3 (25:24):
A lot of guys look good on Instagram. A lot
of guys look good in the gym, man. We hope
he's slower. Well, of course we do. Of course we do.
But don't you agree that the older somebody gets, the
more likely that becomes? That's just science, right? That's human nature.
Speaker 5 (25:36):
The older somebody gets, the more likely it is they're
going to slow down. They're not going to be as quick.
They're not going to be as instinctive. They're not going
to have that. Hugh talks about the quick twitch fibers, whatever, blah, blah, blah,
all that stuff. I mean, the fact that he looks
good on IG, Jackson, hey, great, good for him. He's devoted, right?
He's not an idiot.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
He didn't get fat. He's not a slob.
Speaker 5 (25:57):
First of all, if he did get fat and he
was a slob, he wouldn't be here.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
The Rams wouldn't have signed him, number one.
Speaker 5 (26:02):
And number two, maybe he was always training because he
thought there was a chance one day he might come back.
Would I rather have Aaron Donald not on the Rams?
Of course I would rather not have him on the Rams.
But I'm just– my fear factor, if you will, for
the Rams being a pain in our ass– It's the
same as it was before they went out and got Donald.
It's the same as it was before they got Miles Garrett.
(26:24):
I think that they are so well coached. I have
so much respect for Matt Stafford as a quarterback. I
have so much respect for what McVay does that there's
just no part of me that would ever take them
lightly at all, ever.
Speaker 7 (26:36):
I hear that from me.
Speaker 8 (26:38):
You guys know when we did our pocket schedule, when
the schedule came out in May, I picked the Seattle
Seahawks to repeat, and I took full confidence that the
Seahawks were a better team than the Rams in that moment.
I am enormously more scared of the Rams now than
that day in May. Wow.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
Interesting.
Speaker 5 (26:55):
I don't know how much more scared I could have been,
by the way, but I guess if it's possible to
be more scared, then whatever.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
The good news is that the Rams have four eminently
losable games in their first five games that they're going
to play. San Francisco on a neutral field, losable. Giants
at home, probably not losable. At Denver, at Philadelphia, back-to-back, losable, losable,
and Buffalo. That is their first five games. We could
(27:22):
be staring at a Rams team that is very easily
3-2 after five games.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
But you need them.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
To be because they play nonstop.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
Nobody in October and early November other than one game
against the Chargers over a six-week span.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
I love when we say things like that on the air.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
What's that?
Speaker 3 (27:38):
When I say we, I mean me too. They could
be 3-2. They could also be 5-0.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
Well, we're in deep trouble.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
They could also be 5-0. With that schedule, they're 5-0.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
We're in deep trouble.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
I mean, that's the thing, though, is that they're that good.
I mean, they absolutely could be 5-0. I mean, how
do I?
Speaker 5 (27:52):
I got no idea what's going to happen when they
go to Australia. Nobody's ever played that far away from
home in the history of football.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
I got no clue how.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
They're going to travel. They're flying in and flying out.
Speaker 6 (28:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
They're not even acclimating.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
No, the Niners. I think the Niners are doing that.
I thought the Niners.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
I thought the Rams were flying in and flying out.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
Are the Rams the team doing that? I thought the
Niners were the team doing that. Anyway, it doesn't matter.
The point is, we really need this season to start.
Speaker 5 (28:17):
Because I get so tired of making proclamations about stuff.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
Well, this team's not going to beat it. Well, how
do you know?
Speaker 2 (28:23):
Rams are flying 24 hours before the game.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
We haven't seen them play. We haven't seen this team.
There's always a surprise team.
Speaker 5 (28:28):
We're just basing all of our predictions based on what
we saw last year and what teams did over the
offseason on paper.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
We got no freaking clue.
Speaker 5 (28:36):
Can we just get to the next Wednesday, for God's sakes,
already and be done with it?
Speaker 3 (28:39):
5.39, we're going to break. Come back and wrap it up.
Speaker 5 (28:42):
The Husky Football Coaches Show from Eureka in New Village
is coming up at 6 on 93.3 KJRFM.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
All right, we're back.
Speaker 5 (29:09):
I'm in the middle of crafting a poll, by the way,
about your reaction as a Seahawks fan after Aaron Donald
signed with the Rams. Option A is scared you-know-what-less. Or
option B is, eh, doesn't change much.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
Whatever.
Speaker 8 (29:22):
Right?
Speaker 2 (29:22):
Oh, yeah, no weasel option, huh?
Speaker 3 (29:24):
Yeah, no weasel option.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
If those are my.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
Two options, I'm going to say not change much.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
Because of the three big pickups. I think Miles Garrett is. Whoa.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
You see, Dick, it's live radio.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
There's a thing called the FCG, by the way.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
I think that said, did you dump that, by the way, Jackson? Really?
Speaker 2 (29:41):
That got out?
Speaker 3 (29:42):
It was just three letters. No, you got it out.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
You got it out.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
You just nicked it.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
I didn't complete it. I didn't complete the swing.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
It was a check swing.
Speaker 7 (29:51):
That's not a foul ball.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Dude, it was a check swing. I went to third base,
and they said, no, you didn't.
Speaker 7 (29:57):
Fully go around.
Speaker 5 (29:59):
You know, I am the most conservative guy there, and
I'm going to overrule you. I think Jackson's right.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
You nicked it. You just nicked it, man.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
Oh, come on.
Speaker 5 (30:06):
Anyway, our Bellevue Rare Coins golden moment from the weekend
brought to you by our friends at Bellevue Rare Coins.
How about the new Sounder Jackson playing immediate dividends, baby?
Speaker 2 (30:15):
Gomez plays it across.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
Jovelich!
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Oh, what a start!
Speaker 4 (30:20):
Jovelich gets his first goal for the Sounders on his debut.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
He's been here less than a week.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
But he gets the goal.
Speaker 6 (30:29):
That every single fan.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
Was hoping he would get. Roszak, here's Jovelic, top of
the 18, oh, what a goal! It's Jovelic!
Speaker 4 (30:40):
He gets his second goal of the afternoon, and this
time he cracks one into the upper 90, about 20
yards out.
Speaker 5 (30:50):
Sounders earn a draw, right, Jackson, over the weekend against
a very good Chicago team.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Let me ask you this, Jackson. When did you start
barking about going after this guy?
Speaker 8 (30:59):
May.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
This Yovulich guy.
Speaker 8 (31:00):
May.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (31:01):
So maybe if the Sounders would listen to you and
they made this move months.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Ago, they wouldn't be in the middle of this hole
that they're in right now.
Speaker 4 (31:09):
Huh?
Speaker 3 (31:10):
Where the hell has this guy been all year long?
Hand hour, huh? Come on.
Speaker 8 (31:15):
Sorry, Adrian, if you're listening, but if you would have
done that in April or May or June, probably only
would have cost $ 4 million. But the Sounders got so desperate.
Brian said it with us last Tuesday. They got so desperate.
Speaker 7 (31:30):
It cost $ 6 million.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
When is Brian's next press conference with the media?
Speaker 7 (31:34):
Probably tomorrow morning.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
Tomorrow morning. I'm going to send him a text. And
I'm going to say, dude, you got to give Jackson
a shout out.
Speaker 7 (31:40):
He already did that on our show. He doesn't need
to do it again.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
A public shout out. In public at a press conference.
He's going to do it.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
Don't do it.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
For your birthday. He's going to give you a shout out.
Speaker 5 (31:50):
And I want him to actually say, if my owner
would have listened to the guy that does our pregame show,
and if we would have made this move months ago,
we would have saved money, and we wouldn't be in
a giant hole.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
Okay, I'm going to text him right now.
Speaker 7 (32:05):
Don't do that, please.
Speaker 6 (32:07):
Too late.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
Already done.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
With the new guy.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
Jackson asked me to text you.
Speaker 4 (32:11):
With Morris, with Roldan, like I saw what were like
four or five games out of the last, or four
or five points out of the last playoff spot. I
think I saw the, so, I mean, how realistic is
it if they get everybody back together?
Speaker 2 (32:26):
That they can make up that ground.
Speaker 7 (32:27):
Massively realistic.
Speaker 8 (32:29):
It's also going to happen because in the span of
48 hours last week, we paid $ 6 million to bring
Jovovich in, and then about 36-whatever hours later, news started
to trickle out that Portland sold their best player, and
they're the team that's above us.
Speaker 7 (32:44):
So we're going to jump them.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
So it's a situation then that Seattle, if they get in,
is a.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
is a team that nobody's going to want to play.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
Like the Mariners.
Speaker 7 (32:53):
Exactly right.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
Except the Sounders actually can get in the play.
Speaker 7 (32:57):
Like the Mariners.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
It's pretty tight.
Speaker 5 (32:59):
Hey, I know you are not ready to call it
yet because the division's terrible, right?
Speaker 3 (33:05):
Okay, all of us agree the Mariners stink. We all agree.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Not a good team.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
But they're still in the race.
Speaker 7 (33:12):
By definition, they're still nice.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Mathematically.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
All right, fine.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
Mathematically.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
That's all I want. That's all I want.
Speaker 7 (33:18):
The Sounders are in the same spot.
Speaker 8 (33:19):
We're like, because of how good they could be when
they get.
Speaker 7 (33:24):
Healthy and the XYZ. Yeah, that's a team that nobody wants.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
Both teams, Jackson, have underperformed their abilities this year. The
Mariners and the Sounders.
Speaker 8 (33:33):
No, because the Sounders' abilities haven't been there because they've
been the most injured team in.
Speaker 7 (33:37):
Major League Soccer history.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
That's part of it. Once they get healthy, though, they'll
be a much better team. That's what I meant. Once
they get healthy, they'll be a much better product.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
Because even when the Mariners are healthy, they still suck.
Speaker 7 (33:46):
Yeah, they're just terrible.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
I mean, the Mariners are healthy now, other than Donovan.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
Okay, so you know what?
Speaker 5 (33:51):
I'm getting tired of getting logged out of my wall,
by the way. Every time I go to log in
to play a stupid sounder, it always kicks me out
of here. But I already have an update on the
poll from the Rams poll that we just tossed out there.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
I don't think I'll have my sounder ready, so I'm sorry.
You know what? Let's do it live. Are you ready? Three, two, one.
Update on the poll. Let's use that one.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
That's not as good as the sounder.
Speaker 6 (34:16):
That's pretty good.
Speaker 5 (34:17):
The update of the poll with the Aaron Donald signing.
Your thoughts on the Rams?
Speaker 3 (34:22):
Update on the poll. There you go. How much does
it change?
Speaker 5 (34:26):
And the two options are scared, you know what-less, or B, meh,
doesn't change much. 83% doesn't change much.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
So Jackson's wrong.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
Jackson's wrong.
Speaker 8 (34:36):
I mean, I'm just part of the 16. Cause like, again,
like what I said off the air to you guys
before we went on was like, in my opinion, Aaron
Donald is still a absolute monster. That's where the differing
opinion is. And that's my opinion, and that's fine. I
also think McDuffie's a great cornerback, and I think Myles
Garrett's the best defensive player in the world. So you
(34:56):
add all that together, and what I said was I
was at a six in fearing the Rams at the
start of the offseason.
Speaker 7 (35:03):
Now I'm at a nine.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
Dick, we may as well just quit and roll over.
Like I tweeted yesterday, I said hand him the trophy.
Speaker 4 (35:12):
Why play the 2026 NFL season? I think we should
just hand him the trophy.
Speaker 8 (35:17):
That's why it's a 9, not a 10, because nothing's guaranteed.
Speaker 5 (35:21):
How the hell do you go from a 6 to
9 with a 35-year-old defensive tackle that hasn't played in
two years?
Speaker 3 (35:28):
That is insane. Vegas won't even do that for a quarterback.
Speaker 7 (35:31):
It's Aaron Donald, Miles Garrett, and Trent McDuffie.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
You know what? You don't know what the hell you're
talking about.
Speaker 7 (35:36):
You don't know what you're talking about. I usually say
things like this.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
I'm the one.
Speaker 5 (35:43):
There's literally nothing to drink in here, by the way,
at all. I've been nursing a water for two hours.
I'm usually the one that has that hyperbole going off
the deep.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
Oh, my God.
Speaker 7 (35:53):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 3 (35:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
We love ourselves some Trent McDuffie.
Speaker 4 (35:58):
We sat in this room with Trent McDuffie like five
years ago.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
He's one of them.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
I don't like him.
Speaker 4 (36:02):
He is one of the nicest guys that the Huskies
have had. He's a very good player. He's not elite.
He's not as good as what he's being paid by
the Rams. They got him and signed him because they
overpaid for a very good corner. He is not a lockdown,
(36:22):
change the game corner.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
It's not going to matter. They got Aaron Donald. Doesn't matter.
It's over, yeah. Doesn't matter.
Speaker 5 (36:27):
They might not even start McDuffie.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
They may just say, you know what, let's just save
him for the playoffs. We don't need him.
Speaker 4 (36:34):
They might just play Aaron Donald and Miles Garrett.
Speaker 5 (36:35):
That's what I was going to say. No, just play
one guy.
Speaker 7 (36:37):
I hope you're right.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Just play Donald.
Speaker 7 (36:38):
I hope you guys are right.
Speaker 8 (36:39):
11-on-1.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
I hope you're right.
Speaker 5 (36:42):
All right, the Husky football coaches show, Damon Huard, Elyse Woodward,
Jed Fish from Eureka in the U Village.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
The inaugural show for 2026 is coming next.
