Speaker 1 (00:00):
Here we go.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
We get done with the update. Jackson hits the open.

Speaker 3 (00:04):
Dick looks at me and says, when are we doing
the burial for the Mariners on the air? Like, when
is this thing officially.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Going to be over?

Speaker 4 (00:11):
I've been waiting for this for weeks.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Like, we're six and a half games out right now.
How many games left?

Speaker 3 (00:16):
We've got 16 games left to go. What do you
ladies think, right? You fine-looking ladies over here at the
520 Bar and Grill. You guys think the Mariners have
a chance still to make the playoffs? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (00:26):
No?

Speaker 2 (00:27):
All I need is a yes or no.

Speaker 4 (00:28):
I don't think she knows what a mariner is.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Okay, she said yes.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
I don't think she's seen a mariner.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
So literally, Dick looks at me and says, what do
we have in the burial? And then not a half
a second later, Jackson, what did you tell us?

Speaker 4 (00:40):
Oh, my God.

Speaker 5 (00:41):
Julio Rodriguez, three-run homer, mariner's lead.

Speaker 6 (00:45):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Well, I mean, the problem is that the Astros aren't
playing ball. That's the biggest problem, right? I mean, they're
winning today, so you win today, you're still six games out.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
I think you're going to be five and a half
out in the wild card race. Whatever.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
I mean, I told Dick off the ear, look, we'll
do a burial at some point for him.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
We'll call on the rabbi. We'll call on the priest.
We'll get some.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
Can we have a cake or something? We'll just get
it catered, you know, some nice finger food, whatever. That
sounds like a great idea. You know, all of us
will wear black like Johnny Cash, and we'll do a
little burial on the ear, but we're not doing that
the day of the Seahawk opener or the day after
the Seahawk opener, so.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Anyway, yeah, good for Julio.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
Julio Rodriguez hitting a home run where it doesn't even
really matter in September.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
That's very Julio on brand. Well, you know what's funny?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Actually, guys, I was talking to Shockey about this the
other day because he's the only one that I know
that he knows how to deal with all the baseball
reference stuff, like all the different rows and different things
and stuff. And so I texted him and I said,
I want to know how many of Cal Raleigh's home
runs have come in, like.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Low leverage situations. Cal's or Julio's?

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Cal.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Okay. And the number.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
It's shocking how few home runs Cal Raleigh has hit
in a high leverage situation this year. He's only got, what, 21, 22,
whatever he is. But last year, a lot of them
came in high leverage situations. This year, it's hardly any. So, anyway,
we're getting way off track here. We're getting way off topic.
We'll visit all that stuff later on. But, hey, guys,
let me tell you something right now. The rest of

(02:12):
the NFL is pissing their pants today after what the
Seahawks did last night.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
No Sam Darnold.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
No Niki Minwari, no Ty Okada against the guy that
finished second in the MVP and the reigning AFC champions,
and they still found a way to win. The rest
of the NFL is shaking in their boots. After what
we saw last night. I mean, guys, I was leaving
the stadium and I was being really well. I was
being mostly sarcastic. Maybe we should let Jalen Monroe have

(02:43):
a shot against these guys next time. Maybe to make
it fair, we should just play with no quarterback and
then see what happens next time against the Patriots. Because
I think, first of all, I think two things. Number one,
that was a hell of a statement by Mike McDonald
last night. And then number two... It was really one
of my favorite wins of the Mike McDonald era.

Speaker 7 (03:01):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
At least when it comes to a regular season game. Absolutely.

Speaker 6 (03:04):
Right?

Speaker 2 (03:04):
To be down 10-0.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Like, it's one thing to lose your starting quarterback, but
to be in the game and fighting, whatever.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Maybe you're playing a bad team and you're in the game.
They're down 10-0.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
I mean, look, not many teams come back from 10
points down in the NFL. And to do it with
a backup quarterback, you went 42 minutes without scoring a
point twice. Until that field goal, Dick, late in the
third quarter. And you're doing it with a backup quarterback
with a rookie running back against a defense that I
think is pretty good in New England with Mike Vrabel.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
And you pulled it off.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
I mean, you pulled it off partly because the guy
playing quarterback for the Patriots is an imbecile. I mean, honestly,
when he threw that interception to Josh Jobe, guys, the
first thing that I thought of and the first thing
that I tweeted wasn't, hey, great play.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Josh Jobe. It was, what the hell is he doing
throwing that ball?

Speaker 3 (03:54):
And then you go home and you watch the tape
and you see DeMarcus Lawrence jumping over Morgan Moses and
he's right in his face and he's off his back foot.
I mean, that was, I don't want to go crazy
here with the hyperbole, Dick. That was a hell of
a statement by Mike McDonald, and it's another reminder. My
wife said this to me last night during the game.
This is still Mike McDonald's flipping defense. And how many

(04:18):
times did you and I say before the game, there's
going to be some random dude that steps up and
makes a play, and it was Rodney Thomas with the tip,
Nehemiah Pritchett with the interception, Josh Jobe with the interception
in the corner. These are good players, but they're not
your stars. And they're stepping up in a depleted secondary.
It's like, remember the game last year against Tampa Bay

(04:39):
when they gave up 34, 37 points? We're on the air.
I was like, I don't care who is playing for you.
I thought the scheme was going to be the star.
And ever since that game, Dick. And they've been healthier
since that game, obviously. Yeah, they were really banged up
that game. Right, but they were banged up yesterday. And
the scheme, in a lot of ways, was the star.
For them to be able to pull Rodney flipping Thomas

(04:59):
off the practice squad and have him make a play
like that, and for Nehemiah Pritchett to make a play
like that, I don't think that they were very pleased
with what they were seeing from Nehemiah Pritchett in training
camp because they went out and got Terry on Arnold
and signed Trevon Diggs. And he steps up and makes
a huge play for them, dude. So we are so
freaking lucky to have this guy as our head coach.

(05:21):
He's a hell of a leader. He's a hell of
a guy. And he is a freaking savant when it
comes to defense.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
You can't quantify culture.

Speaker 8 (05:31):
And everything in sports, as fans and as analysts, we
use numbers to quantify if something's good or not.

Speaker 5 (05:38):
Right.

Speaker 8 (05:38):
Culture is just something you can't quantify. But can we
just look at the two teams in our city right now?

Speaker 4 (05:45):
Oh, God.

Speaker 8 (05:46):
Whereas one team, everybody comes in and is elevated by
a championship culture.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
The other team.

Speaker 8 (05:54):
Every time you trade for a guy, they go from
an 850 OPS guy to a 650 OPS guy and
is brought down by less than a championship culture. I
don't know how to explain it any better than that.
You can't quantify it. You just know it when you
see it. And this football team has got a better
culture than any team in the entire league.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
No doubt. No question.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
I mean, there's not many teams that can pull off
what they pulled off. And I remember saying... early in
the game when Drew Locke came in, that he looks
like a guy that barely took.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Any snaps during training camp.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
And what I meant to say is during the week,
because I know he took snaps in training camp.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
He's not going to get as many as Sam, obviously.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
And then it turns out that Cooper Cupp was doing
an interview, I don't know if you guys heard this
last night, with I think it was NBC, and he
said he didn't take one snap.

Speaker 5 (06:46):
Jane Slater will have it on phone with audio, too.

Speaker 8 (06:48):
Right.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
He didn't take one snap.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
And that's exactly what I thought he looked like early
in the game, that he hadn't taken a snap with
the number one team or maybe any reps whatsoever. And
Cooper Cupp said he took no reps during the week
of practice. So kudos to him. And I think every
now and then you've got to just look at this
in the context of it.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Did he play great? No. Was he unbelievable?

Speaker 4 (07:10):
No.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
I mean, the JSN touchdown is all JSN. Obviously give
him credit for getting the ball there, but my God.
I mean, you were talking about the screenshot of the
four players all around him.

Speaker 8 (07:21):
Not one fan out of 100 would see that screenshot
and say, that's going to be a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
Zero chance. So he's electric. There's a reason why he's
the offensive player of the year. But if you're Drew Locke,
just get the guy the ball. Like Collinsworth, I went
back and watched it last night. Collinsworth was like, they've
got to get number 11 involved way more often. And
they got him involved on fourth and one. Great play
call by Brian Fleury. You want to give Locke credit
for that little dump, that's fine, whatever. But that was
all JSA. The key is the guy didn't screw up.

(07:47):
He didn't make any mistakes. He didn't drop the ball.
He didn't throw a pick. Drake May is the runner-up
to Matt Stafford in the MVP, and he threw three
of them in last night's game. And Drew Locke doesn't
throw one of them in last night's game. I mean, yeah,
was he missing, guys? Yes.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
I had a bit of a beef.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
With the play-calling, Dick, especially when they got down to
the 13-yard line before the first field goal late in
the third.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
You know, I'm like, guys, let this guy cook. Let
him throw.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Mike Holmgren's always telling us, when you get inside the 20,
every pass should be to the end zone. Every single one.
We got Helani going right, Helani going right on a toss.
Then they finally throw it to Cooper, copies scores, but
it gets wiped off due to a penalty. So it
took him a little bit of time, right, Dick, to
get going with Drew Locke. But when he did, they
started to pick up a little bit of momentum. And

(08:38):
I just think you got to give this guy credit
for coming off the bench. cold as ice, not taking
a snap, and at least not throwing an interception or
fumbling the ball and putting the defense in a horrible spot.

Speaker 8 (08:51):
When you don't put the ball in harm's way, the
Seahawks win. Mike McDonald has never lost a football game
as a head coach when his team doesn't commit a turnover.

Speaker 4 (09:01):
They're 12-0. They have never lost a game. That's crazy.

Speaker 8 (09:04):
So that tells me that, yeah, you want to let
your quarterback go a little bit, But you can also
win football games against almost every team in this league
by simply punting the ball and making the other team
go the length of the field. And that's basically what
they did last night. They used Michael Dixon as a weapon.

(09:25):
They didn't turn the ball over, and they scored one touchdown.
And that's all they needed to score was one touchdown
to beat a team that was the AFC champions last year.
And you mentioned the Cooper Cup comment. I'm going to
talk about another Cooper Cup comment. He said, listen, we
believe every one of our team members believes they're going

(09:46):
to win. He said, believe me, there are teams out
there that just wait for bad things to happen. They
expect bad things to happen, and that's why they consistently
lose close games at the end.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
We do not. and that's again states the culture of
this football.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Team Well, you know, this Drake May thing, we talked
about this last week, that if Drake May goes out
and struggles again, he's going to hear it from Boston media.
And I think he's hearing it from Boston media. Because
if you're a Patriot fan, after what you saw him
do through three quarters against the Seahawks in the Super Bowl,
he was absolutely god-awful.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
Against the Hawks.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
I mean, a lot of that is the Hawks, right?
But he was terrible.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
He's got a 68.6 passer rating in two games against
the Seahawks. with three touchdowns, five interceptions, and he's taken
nine sacks in those eight quarters. And by the way,
of the 473 yards that Drake May has thrown for
in eight quarters against Seattle, 235 came when they were
down 19-0 in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl,

(10:47):
and the game was over. So this guy is being owned,
absolutely owned, by the Seahawks defense. And if you're a
Patriot fan, I think you've got a problem, man. You
look at him and you think, this is the guy
that finished second in the MVP? And in the biggest
games of the year, he pees down his leg? I mean,
his playoff numbers are terrible. The guy went 20 consecutive games.
I think it's, is it 20 or 21? He went

(11:09):
20 consecutive games without throwing a two-pick game, and he's
done it now twice in the last two games against
the Seahawks. So I think, I mean, I'll just say it,
and I don't like saying things like this about people,
but I'll say it anyway.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
I think he's a bit of a fraud. I'm sure
he's a great dude.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
I'm not saying I'm sure he's a great guy, but.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
That's the dude that's the runner-up in the MVP?

Speaker 2 (11:32):
Really?

Speaker 4 (11:32):
That's the guy?

Speaker 3 (11:33):
I mean, dude, it's like in the movie Troy. You've
seen that movie with Brad Pitt. Is there no one else?
Is there no one else? Is this it?

Speaker 6 (11:43):
Really?

Speaker 3 (11:43):
This is the guy? I mean, look, Matt Stafford's the MVP.
He played great against the Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
I get it.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
But it's unbelievable how the supposed second-best player in the
NFL has just been turned into a nothing burger by
the Seahawks.

Speaker 8 (11:56):
Well, he's been turned into a nothing burger by just
about every good defense he faces. He looked terrible against
the Houston Texans in the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
Then he's a fraud. He looked terrible against the Denver
Broncos in the playoffs.

Speaker 8 (12:05):
Faced Jared Stidham, and that's why they went to the...
And yeah, I mean, I'm with you. I think when
he's a fraud, when you're defining him, is he going
to be an upper echelon? Some people have them ranked
in the top five in their quarterbacks.

Speaker 4 (12:19):
He was ahead of Darnold.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Which is unbelievable. He was ahead of Darnold.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
But, I mean, he's got some good traits. He's good
on his feet. He can run. He's kind of a
poor man's Justin Herbert.

Speaker 5 (12:31):
And.

Speaker 8 (12:33):
But that's probably all he's ever going to be.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
However, I will say, when you're throwing to Mack Hollins.

Speaker 8 (12:40):
And you've got Ramondre Stevenson, and you're throwing to Romeo Dubs,
and A.J. Brown goes out, and his offensive line is questionable,
he doesn't have a ton of help.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
So, you know, I'm with you. I've never been a
Drake May believer.

Speaker 8 (12:56):
And I would only call him a fraud in the
sense that I don't think he's going to be a
star quarterback.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
I think he's going to be a fine quarterback.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
That's the point, that, hey, look, is he middle of
the road?

Speaker 6 (13:04):
Great.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
But is he elite? Is he second best player in
the league? No.

Speaker 7 (13:09):
No.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
Not at all.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
Not even close to being second best player in the league.
I mean, I'd probably take Darnold over him, to be
honest with you.

Speaker 6 (13:16):
Right?

Speaker 3 (13:17):
I mean, the guy has, he's, I think I saw this,
and it could be nonsense, by the way, but I'm
going to run with it because it fits my narrative.
He's 0-12 against teams that are above 500 in his
NFL career. And that's in the regular season because he
obviously won a couple of playoff games last year.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
Oh, and 12th.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
So I just, again, from a Patriot perspective, they got
a problem. Now they got A.J. Brown banged up. I mean,
that's a football team that. Given their schedule, I would
not be shocked if New England went like 7-10 or 6-11.

Speaker 8 (13:48):
When we did our predictions last week, I said my
bold predictions was by week four, the Patriots would have
as many losses as they did all of last year
because their schedule is brutal.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
And now we've got to talk about Drew Locke and
Sam Darnold, right? So the word on Sam Darnold is
that he's going to be okay as far as a
long-term thing. You know, there was a lot of dread
in that building last night when he walked.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
Off with a hip injury.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
There was a paw cast on that hand.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
A lot of dread.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
You know, I mean, did he tear something? Did he
break something? What's going on?

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Blah, blah, blah.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
It comes out that, you know, he's going to miss
the Arizona game, and he might be able to be
back for the Commanders game.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
We'll see.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
You know, he's got some soreness in there, obviously. I
heard Hugh, and he's exactly right. When you watch the
replay and the knee hits the ground– and everything just
reverbs up the leg into his hip. Like, God, that's
even just painful to watch, right? So hopefully we've dodged
a long-term bullet on Sam Darnold. But there's two things there.
Number one, how long will he be out for? And

(14:49):
then when he does come back, is he going.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
To deal with something?

Speaker 3 (14:53):
Just like Eamon Worry, is he going to deal with
a sore hip the entire year? Is this going to
be something that's going to have to be shot up
before every game they play? Will this be a slight problem?
For Sam Darnold, and if it is, what does that
mean for his play?

Speaker 4 (15:06):
Well, first, he's not Lamar Jackson. Of course. If he
was Lamar Jackson, we'd be really, really concerned.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
But even just moving around in the pocket, right?

Speaker 4 (15:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
Is the hip going to be a problem with him? Yeah.

Speaker 4 (15:17):
Nobody knows the answer to that. We'll have to wait
and see.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
But how much confidence do we have in Drew Locke
if he ends up being the guy on a long-term basis?
Let's just live in a world for a second where
that does happen. We're hoping it doesn't happen, and we're
hoping that Darnold comes back maybe in a couple weeks.
This is the beauty of playing on a Wednesday. You
get the extra few days, then the Arizona game, and
then the Commanders game. So he's going to have a
couple of weeks to rest this thing. How much confidence, guys,

(15:44):
do we have in Drew Locke if they need to
turn to him for longer than just a game or two?

Speaker 8 (15:51):
I got no concerns over the next game. And I
don't have a ton of concerns over the Washington game
simply because I'm looking at Washington's offense against the Seattle
Seahawks defense. Washington offense, in my opinion, is worse than
the Patriots offense. So I think the Seahawks defense holds
the next two opponents to 10 points.

Speaker 4 (16:09):
So can.

Speaker 8 (16:11):
Drew Locke give us a touchdown and a couple of
field goals each of those next two games?

Speaker 4 (16:16):
If he can, I think it's probably enough.

Speaker 8 (16:18):
Beyond that, it's going to be difficult for them to
continue to win without Sam Darnold.

Speaker 5 (16:22):
Yeah, I'm wildly concerned about the Washington game. To say
that Patriots have a better offense than Washington, I think
is crazy. Like Jaden Daniels. Stefan Diggs, Terry McLaurin. That's
a good offense. I believe in Bill Kroski merit. So
like that's, that's the game where I'm free. I'm not
freaking out at all about, about Arizona, none at all.
But if you miss, if you have to start drew
lock in Washington on the road, I'm pretty concerned about that.

(16:47):
That goes come from like, I already thought that that
was going to be a tough game. Now it becomes
a very tough game in my mind.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Well, I think, you know, it's easy to look at
his numbers. He's 10 and 18 as a starting quarterback.
He's 59%. He's got 35 touchdowns. He's thrown 28 interceptions
to 35 touchdowns, which is, let's face it, that's gross.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
That's gnarly.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
But 15 of the 28 came when he was starting
for Denver in 2020 during the COVID year, right? So
he's got 10 picks in nine starts since then, which
is still not very good.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
I mean, I'm kind of with you guys, Dick.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
You know, I think he's serviceable if Darnold's out for
any length of time, if they're out for any length
of time.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
And this is, look, I mean, there's no team in
the NFL, hardly any team in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Could lose their starting quarterback and say everything's going to
be the same.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
Nobody can say that.

Speaker 8 (17:39):
There's only one team in the NFL that would have
lost their starting quarterback last night.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
And still won against the Patriots. Correct, correct. Yeah, and
that's us, by the way. That's us.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
So I think this.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
I think the question with Drew Locke isn't, How good
is he compared to other backup quarterbacks? The question is,
how good is he compared to other starting quarterbacks? Is
he bottom third of the NFL if he's starting right now?
Is he bottom fifth of the NFL? Is he bottom
eighth of the NFL?

Speaker 2 (18:06):
I don't know. I mean, you think the Falcons would
like to have Drew Locke.

Speaker 3 (18:08):
Right now with the injuries they've got over Cooper Rush?

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Probably.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
So I think he's as good an option as you
likely probably could get to be a backup quarterback. But
they've got to figure this Darnold thing out. And the
concern for me, again, guys, isn't how long he's going
to be out. It's what happens to him when he
comes back and what does that hit mean throughout the year.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
We're going to break. We've got a lot more to
get to. Fun with audio.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
We're going to hear a lot from the Patriots side
as well. After last night, Mike Holmgren jumping on at 4.
We're live with the 520 before Rams and Niners at
5 right here on 93.3 KJRFM.

(19:09):
Fakes the handoff. Throws a pass.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
Caught.

Speaker 5 (19:11):
40-yard line.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
Breaking the tackle.

Speaker 5 (19:12):
35-30.

Speaker 4 (19:13):
It's Jackson Smith and Jigma. 15, 10, 5. Touchdown!

Speaker 2 (19:18):
Touchdown Seattle!

Speaker 3 (19:19):
45-yard catch and run!

Speaker 2 (19:22):
Third down five. Patriots down by three. 26 seconds to go.

Speaker 9 (19:27):
Shotgun snap to May.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
Moved out of the pocket.

Speaker 4 (19:30):
Throws a pass.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
End zone. Intercepted!

Speaker 4 (19:32):
In the end zone!

Speaker 2 (19:33):
Intercepted by Jobe! Seattle has picked off May! They've done
it again! Hey, so good.

Speaker 4 (19:44):
God, he's so good. The video of that was awesome. Oh, yeah.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
With the Patriots staffer in the booth next door just
taking his headphones off and slamming them on the ground.
We're going to hear the Patriots radio call, right? Fun
with audio with Zolak, I believe, coming up next segment.

Speaker 4 (19:59):
No, no, no.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
4.30.

Speaker 5 (20:01):
We are going to play that alongside of a lot
of other Patriots sound and just laugh at New England
for a good 10 minutes.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
Because you've got to hear Zolak, man. Zolak was just
disgusted by this whole thing. We'll get to all that.
Fun with Audio coming next. Mike Holmgren at four. We've
got to have an update on.
Let's go to Mike McDonald right now and find out
what's going on with the quarterback and more.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
How's Sam doing, Mike?

Speaker 9 (20:27):
No update, honestly, from earlier. But it's been positive news.

Speaker 7 (20:31):
So right now I think we're just working through the
extent of the injury and then putting a plan in
place to get back rocking and rolling. So.

Speaker 9 (20:43):
It is silver lining as we have some extra time here.

Speaker 7 (20:46):
We'll kind of get things back up and running on Monday,
actual Monday, calendar Monday, not football Monday.

Speaker 9 (20:53):
Actually, it'll be Monday. We'll be back, okay? It'll be
a football Monday and a calendar Monday.

Speaker 7 (20:59):
So hopefully by then we'll have a really accurate picture
of plan of attack and what we'll do that week.

Speaker 9 (21:06):
In the building now he was back today yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
Have you talked to him to gauge like demeanor just.

Speaker 7 (21:10):
Kind of how we've we've texted back and forth but
i haven't i haven't seen him but i know he's
he's here right now.

Speaker 4 (21:17):
Just to confirm what you said on the radio you
said it's a muscle thing.

Speaker 7 (21:20):
Yeah i'd tell you more but i don't i don't
i don't know more it's it's around the hip i
don't think there's a hip muscle but there is there
i don't know you.

Speaker 10 (21:29):
Don't have the high school science class skeleton.

Speaker 9 (21:31):
That you could i probably should do that from moving
forward bring it out every time there's a.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
Question First of all, my question is this, and somebody
actually brought this up. First of all, there are many
muscles on the hip, number one. And then number two,
I think you're just being sarcastic.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
I don't have many muscles on my hip, actually. I
don't have any muscles, period, by the way, so I'm
not worried about that.

Speaker 8 (21:51):
Just look at my golf game and tell I don't
have a lot of.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
Muscles on my hip.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
If you're Joe Bob... Butthead from Kent. You're waiting like
six hours to get looked at at Harborview, by the way.
Do they have like an express, the Seahawks?

Speaker 2 (22:04):
Yes. Do they?

Speaker 4 (22:05):
Sam Darnold, with time.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
You can just walk right in.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
Come on in.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
Really?

Speaker 3 (22:09):
So all the poor bastards waiting in the emergency room
or whatever for hours. They take a backseat.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
Okay, just checking. Number one.

Speaker 4 (22:15):
Gunshot wounds, backseat to Sam Darnold.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
What, you're almost dead? Sorry, just hang in there. We
got to look at the quarterback. We got to look
at the quarterback. I mean, again, it's just how much
confidence do you have in Drew Locke? And I'm generally
with you guys on the Cardinal thing. I kind of
lean towards Jackson a little bit on the Commanders thing
just because I don't know what Jaden Daniels is right now.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
I mean, he was looking pretty damn good, Dick, before
he got hurt. Really good.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
So I don't know. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
The answer is I don't know.

Speaker 8 (22:42):
I'm not a believer in the Commanders. They fooled me
last year, fooled me once.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
Shame on me, right? You're not going to fool me again.

Speaker 6 (22:48):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (22:49):
I mean, I think they're the last place team in
this division.

Speaker 8 (22:52):
I think the Giants finish higher than them, and certainly
the Cowboys and the Eagles finish higher than them.

Speaker 4 (22:55):
What's up, boys?

Speaker 1 (22:56):
You believe me?

Speaker 2 (22:57):
We'll find out.

Speaker 4 (22:58):
All right.

Speaker 8 (22:58):
I think Jaden Dale's a good quarterback. I don't think
Dan Quinn's a good coach. I don't think their offense has.
I mean, Terry McLaurin's fine.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
He's fighting the voodoo on this whole thing.

Speaker 4 (23:09):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
Putting the voodoo on it.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
All right.

Speaker 2 (23:11):
Well, let's get to it.

Speaker 4 (23:12):
I was worried.

Speaker 8 (23:13):
The game that Jaden Daniels got hurt, and maybe this
is why I feel that way.

Speaker 4 (23:17):
The game that Jaden Daniels got hurt, I was really
nervous about.

Speaker 8 (23:20):
I actually picked them to lose that game, and we
just dominated that game before and after.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
Jaden Daniels got hurt. Let's get to Factor Fiction right now.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
We're set to go. Glad you're with us.

Speaker 6 (23:29):
It's your shot at our weekly $ 1, 000 and the $ 10, 000

we're also giving away weekly prizes by the way one

the correct answers during the week to win 1 000
bucks all courtesy of the lucky eagle it's thursday it's

(24:33):
dick day what do you got.

Speaker 8 (24:35):
Sometimes you get your best value on the most dog
games the ones that are on the corner tv that
nobody's paying any attention to And I've got one bad
team against another bad team. But I'm getting three and
a half points with my bad team. And I think
my bad team actually has a better quarterback and a
better running back. I'm taking the Dolphins going across country

(24:55):
to Vegas where there will be probably 50-50 Dolphin.

Speaker 4 (24:59):
Fans in that building. No Brock Bowers either.

Speaker 8 (25:02):
And no Brock Bowers. And I kind of think Malik
Willis might be okay. And I know Kirk Cousins won't be.

Speaker 6 (25:10):
Right.

Speaker 4 (25:10):
And I love Devon Achan. I think he's spectacular.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
We wanted the guy here. Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (25:15):
I mean, we know how much we love Devon Achan.

Speaker 8 (25:17):
I think Achan scores a touchdown or two, and the
Dolphins win straight up, and I'm getting three and a
half points.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
Well, I think I like it, first of all. We're
taking Miami plus the three and a half against Vegas.
This would be a horrible debut for Malik Willis. to
lose to Kirk Cousins in the opener. He signs a three-year,
damn near $ 70 million deal with Miami, and for him
to walk into Vegas and not be able to beat
that team with a brand-new head coach would be a.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
Bit of a downer, I think, for a lot of
people in Miami.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
All right, so we're going to take the Dolphins plus
the 3.5 against the Raiders on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
You like it, it's fact. You hate it, it's fiction.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
The 49451, all brought to you by our friends at
the Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel. We're going to break
a little fun with audio from the 520 Bar and Grill,
and then Mike Holmgren will join at 4. First chance
to talk to him this year. What an opportunity after
that game last night to get Mike on the air.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
Holy cow! That'll be at 4 on 93.3 KJRFM.

Speaker 6 (26:17):

Speaker 3 (26:45):
All right, we're back at the 520 Bar and Grill
where Joey Brazen, Joey Brazen, the world-famous Joey Brazen, who
does have a sister named Taylor, but she's not working
here tonight.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
That's another Taylor. Okay. I mean, they don't even look
like each other. What do you think?

Speaker 3 (27:01):
Taylor Reams, Joey Brazen, these two over here. We got
some new servers, right, for the football season.

Speaker 4 (27:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
The 520 Bar and Grill. Come on by. Hang out
with us. Niners, Rams tonight.

Speaker 3 (27:12):
And they tell me as long as the weather is good, Dick,
on the patio, they'll be opening up the patio for
all the Seahawks games, all the TVs out there.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Watch the game.

Speaker 4 (27:20):
We watched the soccer game out there, remember? Yes, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (27:23):
A couple months ago. We sure did.

Speaker 3 (27:24):
Phenomenal spot. That's the day that I think Joey's mom, Randy...
stuffed our guts with about 15 different appetizers from the menu.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
I'm still full from that day. All right, here's what
we got.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
A little fun with audio, and then Mike Holmgren joins
next segment. We'll talk with Mike, obviously, his thoughts on
last night's win over the Seahawks, or excuse me, over
the Patriots, if you were under a rock or living
a hole. 13-10 win by the Hawks over New England
last night with Drew Locke, the backup quarterback, saving the day.
A little fun with audio right here live from the

(27:56):
520 Bar and Grill. on 93.3 kjrfm hey dick did
you happen to hear that what's that dick after the
seahawk win cooper cup talked to the nfl network's jane
slater about drew lock's work this week or lack thereof
to get ready to be the backup in the opener.

Speaker 5 (28:12):
Cooper five plays in a game you guys lose your
quarterback how do you guys emotionally respond to that and
keep playing this one yeah i.

Speaker 10 (28:20):
Mean that hurt i mean uh You know, Sam's our guy.
And so you lose something like that, especially your quarterback,
your leader offensively, it's tough. But Drew did an unbelievable
job coming in. Speaks to his preparation. Take no reps.
He took no reps this week. He'll come in and
lead us the way he did. It was really special.

Speaker 4 (28:37):
No reps this week.

Speaker 8 (28:38):
How much meaningful work do you guys get with Drew Locke?

Speaker 10 (28:41):
You get it here and there, but it's really about
his preparation, what he's going above and beyond, staying after practice,
making sure he's on his stuff. It was incredible.

Speaker 4 (28:50):
I mean, the defense picked us up today.

Speaker 10 (28:52):
They did an unbelievable job, three turnovers, just responded over
and over again.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
I want to say there's a clip from Hard Knocks,
and I really don't feel like going back and watching
the whole thing all over again, so I'm just going.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
To assume it's there.

Speaker 4 (29:04):
One time was enough for Hard Knocks.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
Where they're all in the meeting room, and it's Cooper, Cup,
and Darnold, and Drew, and Jalen, and Fleury, and maybe
somebody else, and Drew Locke is talking about how he
doesn't get any reps, and so he's got to be
ready every single week, no matter what, with his film study.
I swear to God, there's a clip from Hard Knocks
where he talks about that.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
And you saw that last night.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
And I honestly think, and we can talk to Mike
about this, the film study is what avoided him making
a mistake last night.

Speaker 4 (29:31):
There's no question about that.

Speaker 8 (29:32):
And I think there are lots of NFL quarterbacks that
just say, you know what, if it ever happens, I'll
be ready.

Speaker 4 (29:38):
And they don't truly pretend.

Speaker 2 (29:40):
Themselves.

Speaker 4 (29:40):
How about my guy, Billy Joe?

Speaker 3 (29:41):
I don't mean to throw Billy Joe under the bus,
but Billy Joe is famous for going into a Buffalo
Bills game and having admitted he didn't know the playbook.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
I remember that.

Speaker 4 (29:52):
It kind of got him out of the league, didn't it?

Speaker 3 (29:54):
It was 25 years ago or whatever it was, but yeah,
so I don't know, dude.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
I had forgotten about that. Kudos to him.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
Hey, Dick, did you happen to hear that?

Speaker 4 (30:01):
What's that, Dick?

Speaker 3 (30:03):
John Schneider, joining the Pat McAfee show earlier today, sharing
his experience during the situation with Sam Darnold yesterday and
what he knows about the injury.

Speaker 9 (30:12):
Pretty scary, obviously, right?

Speaker 11 (30:14):
When players have to leave the facility, they have to
leave the stadium, go to the hospital. So obviously we're
really concerned, uh, probably all the way through, I'd say
about the middle of the third quarter, maybe the end
of the end of the third quarter. We just, we
got the news that, um, you know, you avoided, you know,
a fracture in there in the hip. So obviously a

(30:34):
sense of relief there. Uh, and you guys know Sam's
tough as nails, but, uh, timeline, we just don't know yet.
I mean, he's still, you know, we haven't even seen
him yet this morning.

Speaker 9 (30:44):
Um, I think he was just, you know, just got
a hospital a couple hours ago.

Speaker 11 (30:47):
So, But obviously, you know, much better news than we
had anticipated early in the game. Pretty rough situation there.

Speaker 6 (30:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (30:56):
Well, did you guys allow yourself to have any dread thoughts,
dreaded thoughts of this guy's done.

Speaker 4 (31:01):
For the year? Oh, my gosh. He tore a labrum.
He's out for the year. He broke a hip. He's
out for the year. Oh, my God.

Speaker 3 (31:06):
What the hell's going on? The season just ended on
the first drive.

Speaker 4 (31:09):
Of the game.

Speaker 2 (31:10):
All of those things.

Speaker 8 (31:12):
And I am usually the snow globe, but I sat
there and said, you know what?

Speaker 10 (31:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (31:17):
I said, this season's done. Like, this season's done.

Speaker 8 (31:22):
We could win eight, like I said last year with
Drew Locke, that we could go eight and nine if
we didn't have Sam Darnold.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
They're not repeating. But, I mean, they're not. Unless they
got a Kurt Warner. They're not doing.

Speaker 8 (31:32):
Anything notable with Drew Locke as their starting quarterback all season.

Speaker 5 (31:35):
Anders and I were watching the game together, and here's
pretty much the exact words I said to him. The
Rams gave everything they had for this one year, and
now they didn't even need to.

Speaker 2 (31:47):
Need to.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
You're right.

Speaker 4 (31:48):
That's interesting. I don't know, man.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
I mean, I think it's going to be different for
Drew when he– He has some tape, and when he's
got to prepare as a starter and when teams are
preparing for him, we'll see what happens this Sunday or
next Sunday. I don't want him to go to Arizona
and play well or okay and then have us say
it's just Arizona. If he goes to Arizona next Sunday

(32:16):
and gets a win... and looks good doing it, that's
going to be impressive to me. Because this will be
the first time that he'll be getting ready to start
a football game as the quarterback in a long damn time.
He looked good yesterday. In the second half. He looked good,
but he wasn't asked to do a lot.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
Right?

Speaker 3 (32:33):
Like throwing the ball down the field. There were a
couple good throws. I think he's as good a backup
as there is in the NFL. I agree with you
on that. I just don't want to dismiss it. My
point is I don't want to dismiss it if he
goes to Arizona and wins and they win the game
because of him.

Speaker 2 (32:46):
Well, it's just the Cardinals. That's stupid.

Speaker 4 (32:49):
All right.

Speaker 2 (32:50):
Hey, Dick, did you happen to hear that? What's that, Dick?
Three or four, Jackson. Which one? I want to get four,
so let's hope we get both. Let's do four.

Speaker 3 (32:59):
At Dabo Sweeney's press conference yesterday, the Clemson head coach
fielded a question from reporter, is it Chapel Fowler?

Speaker 2 (33:09):
Chapel Fowler.

Speaker 4 (33:10):
Chapel Fowler is his name.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
Synagogue Johnson asked the question. about roster construction at Clemson
after a 51-10 loss to LSU.

Speaker 4 (33:18):
Do you regret anything.

Speaker 9 (33:20):
About your off-season roster construction right now?

Speaker 1 (33:24):
Chapel, you come with all these questions. I'll tell you,
you're the gotcha guy. No, I don't. I don't, man.
I regret being 0-1-1 right now. I regret that.

Speaker 12 (33:35):
But, no, we're– can you ask Matt at the end
of the season?

Speaker 1 (33:41):
You know, the season isn't over. I mean, we've got
one game. We've got 11 more. What if we go 11-1?
You promised me you'd ask me that then?

Speaker 2 (33:48):
Okay, good.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
I'll answer it. All right? But I'm not answering questions
like that, you know, Chapel.

Speaker 12 (33:53):
I know that's your role and that's in this environment,
you know, to be the guy that wants to create
all the controversy and ask the controversial questions.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
If that's who you are, that's fine. I get it.
But I'll answer that. We played one game. One game.
All right? Did you play football? Okay, well, they give
you 12 games. And at the end of the year,
you count them up. All right?

Speaker 12 (34:18):
And, you know, that's when those type of questions are
fair to me.

Speaker 1 (34:25):
You know, not after one game.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
So this is a guy who between 2015 and 2020, right,
lost four, six, seven games. And now since 2021... He's
lost 6-10-14-21. 21 games. He has 17 and 11 in

(34:49):
his last 18 games and 7 and 7 in his
last 14. And he is becoming famous for being the
one guy in college football that's not embracing NIL. That's
what Chappell Fouts. And this is a guy that I
used to like. I used to root for Debo. He
doesn't understand why people would ask those questions when you're
the only guy in college football that's not embracing NIL.

(35:10):
You just got beat by 40 freaking points by LSU.
I mean, this is a guy that was signed to
a massive contract to win national titles at Clemson, and
now he's getting smoked by Lane Kiffin. The question was
totally fair and absolutely appropriate.

Speaker 8 (35:26):
Well, and every year he's getting worse because two years
ago he was 10-4. Last year he was 7-6 and
lost to LSU in the opener by seven points.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (35:35):
This time he loses.

Speaker 8 (35:36):
To LSU in the opener by 41 points.

Speaker 4 (35:39):
Yeah, I just, I don't know. You did.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
You did say 41. If I had my drop, I
would have played it for you. And say it again.
I'm not going to find it in time. Yeah, I mean,
it's just, you know, again, when you're on Moron Island
and you're the only idiot in college football, I mean, look,
you tried. You tried to be the only idiot in
college football to not embrace NIL.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
It's not working. It's not working.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
Like, I appreciate the effort. Maybe we'll try something new,
and I'll be the one guy. I'll be the lone ranger,
and I'll show everybody that I.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Know what I'm doing.

Speaker 3 (36:08):
You don't know what you're doing, and you've got to
embrace it. If not for his big, fat contract, he
probably would have been fired, you know, last year.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
Absolutely. Or even a couple years ago. All right, we
got a break here, Jackson.

Speaker 1 (36:18):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
All right, we got a break.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
Mike Holmgren, who is the exact opposite of an idiot,
he will join us next on 93.3 KJRFM, courtesy of VenueKings.com.
