Speaker 1 (00:00):
There we go.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Well, we got a surprise guest on the radio show. Man,
here's the deal. When this guy says he's ready to
go on the air, you stop what you're doing. You
drop what you're doing, stop.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
And talk about heart throbs and everything.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
You pivot, and you welcome him to the radio show
for the first time this year. It is our absolute
pleasure to welcome to the show number forty four. Julio
Rodriguez with us now from T Mobile Park. Julio, how
are you, man?
Speaker 4 (00:28):
I'm doing great.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
I'm doing great.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
How you doing boys, We're good.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
We're good. Man. Hell of a win last night? Tell
us about that. Howd a feel to get a win
last night? Game one, kickoff a series against the best
team in baseball record wise so far.
Speaker 5 (00:39):
Man, it was great, It was great. I felt like
the fans and everybody was sorry into the game. We
had a great crowd on a Monday, so it was
just awesome, you know, to be able to get the
win for the fans and we all enjoyed it.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Cool.
Speaker 6 (00:56):
Let just talk about your start to the season, because
I mean it's no surprise you have been a second
half hitter usually and you're out to your best first
two months that you've ever had. What has been the
difference in twenty twenty six so early in the season
at the.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
Dish, I mean, I just feel like, you know, I
after some experience, you know, this is about my fifth year.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
I feel like, you know, I know myself a little.
Speaker 5 (01:21):
Bit better, and I'm being able to play better at
bats and you know, clean up some things that I
that I maybe I used to do in the past,
you know. So I'm just thankful for that, and like
you said, yeah, this is like kind of my best
start and like hopefully.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
We'll continue to go on and help the team win.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Well, give us, Julio some details if you can't. I'm
always curious when you say you wanted to clean some
stuff up, share with us if you don't mind, maybe
a couple of things that you wanted to work on
this offseason that you already felt like you're you're starting
to clean up.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
I just say, you like approach wise of the play
and like things like that.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
That's that's probably like the biggest one.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
It's just kind of understanding myself more as a heitter
and sending one of the other guys on the on
the other teams are trying to do to me and
this kind of like build plans for that. I feel
like that's that's where you know I've had success.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
Well, you know, every every every every game is a
new game. Every game. You know, you always have to adjust.
This is game my adjudstment.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
But I feel like, you know, understanding myself better have
definitely helped me out.
Speaker 6 (02:22):
Julio, At what point did you go from young buck
on this team that kind of looks up to the
veterans to one of those veteran leaders that other others
look to.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
I mean, I just I still feel young.
Speaker 5 (02:36):
You know, I definitely been around a little bit a
little bit, but I.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
Still feel young.
Speaker 5 (02:41):
And you know, I feel like I'm transitioning still obviously,
like we have some younger guys on the team, but
we also have some older ones. So I just kind
of continue to embrace at time that I'm here and
just trying to support, you know, the younger younger guys
are coming in a little bit more every time, and
you know, I just I feel like I'm in that
transitioning process still.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Yeah. Well, I remember the last time or maybe a
couple times ago that we spoke, Julio when Julio Rodriguez
with us on the radio show that you You came
on the air with us and you said, look, guys,
I'm twenty three years old, right, I mean, I'm twenty
two to twenty three years old. I'm just kind of
getting going in this game. Do you still because you
mentioned you still feel young, do you still feel like
(03:21):
there's a lot about this game that you don't know
yet that you have to figure out how to do
certain things and react in certain situations or is that
maybe now starting to be behind you you think.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
I mean, I feel like that's something that you never
lived behind.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
And obviously that I definitely know my way around a
little bit better and all that. Well, I feel like
this game is always teaching you something that you can
never like have it all figure out. So I just
feel like, I would say, learning and keeping my mind
open to new things because this game, this is the
beauty of this game. Yeah, I was giveing something something
new to learn and to kind of evolving too.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Julio Rodriguez joining us here on kJ R.
Speaker 6 (04:03):
Julio, one thing that really helped you guys advance in
the playoffs, You guys were really really clean defensively do
you feel like you've been as clean defensively thus far
this year?
Speaker 3 (04:13):
And if not, why do you think that?
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Is?
Speaker 4 (04:17):
I played?
Speaker 5 (04:18):
Definitely that there's been like a lot of plays though
maybe that we can have like done better.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
And since I die, but you know, I play. As
a team, you always go through two tough times.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
You know it could be like even I was like
we're a really good offensive team too, and like sometimes
we go to some funds and you know, I played,
I just got out the side of baseball. But I
know that I know what this team is shapable of,
and like I just know we're really good in both
ends of the of the play of the baseball game.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Well, I I think I know the answer, Julio. I
just want to hear you say it because it gets
me excited to hear you say it. What do you
think this team is capable of? Honestly tell us?
Speaker 5 (04:53):
I mean, I mean just definitely getting out of the way,
you know, I play. That's the goal out that we
all have U for these teams just kind of I
feel like last year we just warm game out of
the Wars series and they playing that you know, special game, and.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
Just like that's what that's that's a mentality for this year.
I feel like we were hungry and we just want
more for us.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
Yeah, well, I'm right there with you. It's been fifty
years for us, so we're starving to death over here, man.
And I got to ask you because that was hard
for me to get over as a fan. It was
hard for Dick. I know, it's hard for Mariner fans
to get over. That's something that stays with you, stays
with you for a while, right. It impacts your mood
obviously when you're at work. I mean, hell, Julio, We're
sitting here at Jimmy's that night watching Game seven. The
(05:35):
damn Seahawks are playing across the street. I had no
desire to go in there. I mean I just went home.
I wanted nothing else to do besides go home and
literally freaking cry like a baby after that night. How
did you handle that?
Speaker 7 (05:49):
Man?
Speaker 2 (05:49):
How did you handle that Game seven loss?
Speaker 4 (05:54):
That is so like for me.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
I was like, it was tough. It was tough to
lose out there. You put some much into it, like
a whole year and all that. But you know, I
also understood that. You know, if I actually want to
what I continue to play in the playoffs and you know,
get to where I want to get, like being part
of this team. I just needed to get better, you know,
(06:16):
and like I started looking at things objectively and understood that,
you know, the year was over and that we got
to you know, get better and come back stronger next
year to come and receive these times. So that's kind
of how I took it and try to make the
best out of it and grow, because that's how that's
how you can do at that point after you lose,
Like that's all.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
You can really do. You learn from it and try
to get better for next year.
Speaker 6 (06:38):
What did that run do for the confidence of your
baseball team? Because you always thought that you could get
that far in the playoffs. You always thought you could
be a World Series team.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
But now you know, beyond a.
Speaker 6 (06:49):
Shotow of a doubt that you guys have what it
takes to go to the World Series. So what did
that do for you last year?
Speaker 4 (06:55):
I mean just a lot of confirmation, you know.
Speaker 5 (06:57):
I feel like, you know, like a lot of affirmation too,
like that we can actually do it.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
You know, it was a reality like we were dangerous
seeing the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
So like I feel like annoying that and I kind
of see him become real and like get it all
was getting closer and closer.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
I just feel like just just gives a team hunger.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Julio Ronriguez. Always great to hear your voice. We're across
the street at Jimmy's. Next time we're here, why do
you come over and have a cocktail with us before
the game and we're talking person. All right, coffee done,
but whatever you want, man, We got some nice, nice
new menu items here. Got a nice new Ruben sandwich,
meatball sandwich for you. So we're waiting for you. But hey,
(07:35):
best of luck, thanks again for doing this and we'll talk.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
To this right all right, thank you, see you got it.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Julio Rodriguez with us. Let's do this. We're gonna break,
We're gonna come back and reset. Mitch Garver's gonna join us.
We have a lot going on here as we continue
from Jimmy's on ninety three three kJ A r F
M all right, joining us right now on the radio show.
You're backup catcher for the Aarons, who's been catching a
lot lately because Cal Rowley's been banged up. Col's back
(08:03):
in the line up tonight, but he's dhing. Mitch Garver
is joining us right now from T Mobile Park. Mitch,
how you doing, man, Im?
Speaker 1 (08:11):
Well, guys, thanks for having me.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Yeah, we appreciate you doing this. Man, thanks for coming on.
So tell us about last night. First of all, Man,
I mean, this is a game and a series where
people like us in media, right we say things like, oh,
there's a chance for the EMS to prove themselves and
show what they can do against one of the better
teams in Major League Baseball. Do you guys feel like
that that you have these series that every now and
(08:34):
then they come up and it's a bit of a
kind of a little bit of a litmus test for
how good or how not good the baseball team is
at any point in time of the year. Or does
that just sound like ridiculous nonsense that idiots and sports
talk radio like us like to bring up.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
I'm gonna go a little bit more with the ladder.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Good for you, it's dumb.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Listen. Listen. We play one hundred and sixty games a year.
Speaker 8 (08:59):
We play a ton of bait, and at any given time,
a very bad team can beat a very good team.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
And so like the whole idea of a litmus test.
Speaker 8 (09:07):
Or you know, trying to prove ourselves in the league
is so just out of the question. We're trying to
go ahead and put our best foot forward every night, regardless.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Of who we're playing. Right, we could be playing the
worst team in the league at any.
Speaker 8 (09:19):
Given point, and you know, we hope that we play
our best baseball on that night. Obviously we're going against
the Braves, very good team, probably one of the best
records in baseball, probably one of the best offenses in baseball.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
So just trying to just trying to hold that.
Speaker 8 (09:35):
Offense down a little bit is the key for us
and be able to get the our offense going.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Yeah. Well, first of all, I love that about you.
It's why we always love having you on. And then
second of all, when your career is over, there's a
job in sports talk radio waiting for you, pal, if
you want it. But let me ask you, I mean,
how long how long do you personally? You've played this
game a long time? Right, how long do you need
to go? Mench Like, if you were sitting in the
in these shoes that Dick and I are in right
now doing a radio show every day, how long do
(10:03):
you need to go into a season before you, as
a player have a pretty good feel for what your
team is all about.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Yeah, it's a good question.
Speaker 8 (10:14):
I think regardless of record, like, you can look at
some of the underlying metrics.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
I go off run differential a lot.
Speaker 8 (10:20):
And you know, our pitching is one of the best
in baseball, and I don't think they have pitched to
quite their performance what they're capable of. And our offense
is just one click away from really exploding. So underlying
metrics are big for me. I think run differential is big,
you know. I think how do you play at home
versus how you play on the road. All those things
(10:41):
are good indicators for how the season is going to
turn out. And you really can't win.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
A division in the first month. I don't believe you
can lose it either.
Speaker 8 (10:49):
I think the last five months of the season, they'll
happen quickly and you'll you'll have a pretty good idea
who's going to separate themselves around July.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Well, getting that offense healthy back is gonna gonna.
Speaker 6 (11:02):
Help as well. Talk to me about Logan last night.
There was some a lot of hard contact early. What'd
you see from Logan? What types of conversations did you
have on the mound with him.
Speaker 8 (11:13):
You know, our whole idea was to try to suppress
that offense. It's very strong, they're very good at hitting fastballs,
and and they showed us early that they're they're just
a pretty complete offense overall. And uh, you know, I
think it was the fourth or fifth inning when you
gave up a couple of solo.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Home runs to put us down four nothing.
Speaker 8 (11:30):
I went out there and the first thing I said
to him was, you're throwing the ball really great.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Solo home runs are.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
Not gonna beat us.
Speaker 8 (11:36):
You know, get us off the field in this inning,
we're gonna have a chance. Our offense is gonna come through.
And sure enough, you know, we had a couple, uh
couple of leadoff walks there and then we had a
three year in homer from from Raley. So that's the
that's the kickstart we needed at that time, and Logan
kept us in the game. You know, I think he
threw the ball well. We used all of his pitches
and and we're expanding his repertoire a little bit. They
(12:00):
can en sure that he stays aggressive in the zone,
and I think he was able to do that, okay?
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Well, some of the greatest, the best interviews Mitch and
again Mitch Garber with us are the ones where the
interviewee dictates the questions. Because you just gave us a
little nugget there. You said you're looking to expand Logan
Gilbert's repertoire. Talk to us about that. What do you
mean by expanding his repertoire.
Speaker 8 (12:23):
Well, I mean you guys have seen, you know, the
change up come to relevance for Logan this year. Obviously
you don't see too many guys have a splitter and
a change up at the same time. But we're we're
working hard to try to differentiate the two and find
different ways to use them. And then obviously the curveball.
I think we all know that Logan has an eighty
grade slider when he's on and then getting that curveball
(12:46):
also in there and using it as much as we can.
It's a it's a different spin, it's unique, it's something
that the hitters aren't necessarily looking for and be able
to continue to develop that pitch and get him in
the zone, get him below the zone when we have
two strikes.
Speaker 6 (13:01):
Love to get your take as a catcher, about the ABS.
Is it helping the pitcher because they're giving you the
strike when one eighth of a millimeter actually.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Hits the box?
Speaker 6 (13:12):
But the or is it helping the hitter because it's
taken away your framing ability as a catcher.
Speaker 8 (13:22):
I'm a little bit indifferent about ABS so far. I
don't quite know what it looks like offensively or defensively.
I mean, I think it helps me as a catcher
because you know, I know the strike's own well enough
to know that if I catch a pitch poorly, or
if a pitcher misses across my body and I have
to reach over and catch it, that there's a good
chance that was a strike technically, Like it's in the box,
(13:45):
so it's technically a strike where you know, five ten
years ago, if the pitcher didn't hit their target, it
wasn't gonna be a strike anyways. So I'm still a
little indifferent on the whole idea. I do think it
brings a unique competitive advantage to the game. It makes
things a little bit more interesting. When you see somebody
tap their helmet, you know, everybody perks up and it's
(14:06):
kind of like a little friendly competition.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Well, Mitch Garver again, Mariner Ketcher back in the land
of tonight with Cal back. He's going to DH tonight.
So Mitch is back behind the dish and Mitch Dick
asked about Logan last night. I got to ask you
about catching Emerson Hancock on Saturday. Man, how sore was
your hand after receiving fourteen punchouts from Emerson Hancock on
(14:29):
Saturday night? And what did you see from your vantage point?
Speaker 1 (14:32):
Man?
Speaker 8 (14:33):
That was a special night for him. I was really
happy to be a part of it. I think that
was probably his best performance of his career. And you're
able to throw the pitches where.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
He wanted to.
Speaker 8 (14:44):
He was really aggressive with the four seam and his
sweeper and slider have come a long way over the
past couple of years here, So that was a good
thing for him to see and it's something you can
build on and get some momentum going forward. But just
a huge night for the.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Kid, able to catch a bizard to last night.
Speaker 6 (15:02):
I mean, just talk a little bitbout what he's been
able to do this year, coming off a tough end
of the season. Nobody likes to end the season the
way he ended the season last year, but he's been
absolutely nails this season. What's the difference that you've seen
between last year's Bizardo and this year's Bizardo.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
I would I would beg to argue that there is
no difference.
Speaker 8 (15:22):
When you talk about a guy having complete class and character,
he's our guy. He comes into the clubhouse every day
with the same auntitude. He's got a ton of energy,
he's always positive, he always works hard, and he's that
that staple in the bullpen for us. Obviously had a
great year last year, probably one of the top ten
relievers in baseball, but he bounced back this year and
(15:44):
he's he's he's really just stepped right into the same
stride here. He's throwing strikes, he comes in when we
need him to clean up some garbage on the bases,
and you know he can lock down that eighth inning
for us.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
Well, Mitch Garver with us and mitched Before you go,
I want to ask you about something you talked about
a couple of years ago, I think it was late
twenty twenty four, where you were pretty open about the
crap you were taking from people, right. I mean, you
talk with the media, you talk with us about what
you were going through a couple of years ago, and
for lack of a better question, I guess how have
(16:18):
you responded to all of that? And do you still
face and see some of the nonsense online that you
referenced and mentioned a couple of years ago.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (16:28):
I think everybody deals a little bit with some crappy
fans throughout their career, and it's just part of the game,
you know. I've moved forward past all that. I've decided
that doesn't really matter what people say, whether it's good, bad,
or ugly. The only opinions are the ones I listened to,
or my family and my teammates, and I think that's
important for everybody to learn a lesson from that. You know,
(16:52):
life's too short to really care about what certain people
think about you. So I've learned that in my career,
and I continue to learn things about myself throughout my
baseball journey.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
And that's just something that I believe in.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Yeah, yeah, Well, everything we say about is positive, by
the way, Just all right, we've never've been we've never
criticized you at all.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Ever, I'm sure I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
Hey, Mitch, listen, great stuff, man, appreciate you doing this,
and we'll talk down the Road man. All right, guys,
you bet Mitch Garver with us on the radio show. Yeah,
he was pretty open, right, remember a couple of years
old about death threats and all that stuff he took
on social media. And I mean, look, it's easy for us,
and it's hard, I think for people to say things like, well,
just go out and ignore it, which is hard to do.
(17:40):
Like if you're an athlete, I mean, heck, if you're
a talk radio person whatever, you're in this business and
you know that somebody is talking about you, I think
naturally you're going to be drawn to ask yourself, well,
what are they saying? And it's hard. Sometimes it's hard
to not acknowledge all that stuff, but I think you
get to a point where you just kind of have to.
It's like, I know that people laughs times and they
(18:00):
criticize people that like turn off their replies or turn
off their mentions. You never know why that person did that, right, right,
They may be doing that because they're just sick and
tired of hearing from people that don't have the guts
or the balls to go online and use their real name.
So I absolutely understand what Mitch Garver's talking about. From
a couple of years ago. But I do think that
time and winning heals all wounds. So I hope that
(18:23):
he was able to at least enjoy and hear some
of the positivity that came his way.
Speaker 6 (18:27):
Yeah, that was much less last year just because they
they were playing such great, great bass. I would hope
so the LCS. But you know, it can be done.
I mean, my life has gotten a lot less stressful
since I've really stopped checking a lot of them mentioned.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
I don't even look at the text line.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Dude, I look at the text line at all. I
hammer you every day, So that's fine. I mean, I'll
we just miss all that.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
But it's cool about at least you hammered me to
my face and you use your real name.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
One I got I'm coming after you.
Speaker 6 (18:58):
I gotcha. So but you know, it can be done.
But it's very difficult. And like I said, I mean,
when did Twitter start, like eight seventeen, eighteen years ago?
Speaker 3 (19:07):
It took me like twelve thirteen of those years to
figure it out.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
I get it, man, all right, Little fun with audio
coming up on a busy Tuesday Live from Jimmy Is
on ninety three three KJARFM.
Speaker 9 (19:20):

Here's SAFTI in Dick.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
All right, here we go on a busy Tuesday from
Jimmy's on first right here on ninety three three KJARFM.
SAFTI Dick Jackson with you until seven o'clock a little
fun with audio slash Hay. Did you hear that? On
a Tuesday afternoon?
Speaker 10 (19:53):
Eight?
Speaker 4 (19:53):
Dick?
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Did you happen to hear that? What's that? Dick? We
start in Major League Baseball? It will go last night.
Here are both sides of JP Crawford's sixth inning, go ahead,
two run home run for the EM's last night, starting
with Aaron Goldsmith's call for the Mariners on Mariners TV three.
Speaker 11 (20:10):
Two high fly. What back then, doesn't happen nothing? Crawford,
that's a going had two run home run.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
All right, that's the call from the Mariner's perspective. What
do you say? We keep it right here and here
what the homer sounded like on Braves TV with former
Mariners announced Sir Joe Simpson.
Speaker 10 (20:38):
Garver runs three to two, pitch killed high in the
air to deep right field, Eli White to the wall
and that's out of the air and with one swing
with a bat on JP Crawford, the Mariners take the
lead for the first time. That I as they have
a erupted for five runs in the sixth inning and
lead five to fourth.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
So I gotta be honest.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
With the third home run of the season.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
I did not see JP's home run live because I
was out in the garage doing so there when I
saw it first, I saw Jackson and Dick that clip
on Twitter. And what struck me is how long the
center field camera stayed on JP Crawford, Like you didn't
see the ball until it was almost in the stands.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
They showed him celebrating, tipping his cap.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
It was they just hung with it and he's waiting,
he's waiting, he's waiting, he's waiting. You have no idea,
and then boom, let's go to the right field where
the ball has now left the arm. That was awesome?
Speaker 4 (21:31):
Was that?
Speaker 2 (21:31):
I like that too?
Speaker 3 (21:32):
Is was that Joe, our old Joe Simpson.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Right, that's what I said. That's why he said he's
Joe Simpson.
Speaker 12 (21:37):
He's been on the Braves broadcast.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
Yeah, thirty four years. That's why I mentioned that at
the start. He's seventy four years old. Now can you
believe that he doesn't sound seventy four at all? Good
for him, but he's been around for a long time. Yeah,
that's our that's our old guy, Joe Simpson. Ay, fact,
you and I are old enough to remember. That says
a lot. Hey, Dick, did you happen to hear that?
What's that? Dick? Let's go stew a baseball. During last
(22:00):
night's Yankee game, Aaron Judge Homard and Michael Kay honored
the late John Sterling with his famous home run call
on New York's YES Network broadcast and the.
Speaker 13 (22:09):
Pitch HOI jove plent centerfield?
Speaker 2 (22:13):
Going back to Varis.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
Man is god how a judge a judge of blast?
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Here comes the judge. There are a lot of guys
around baseball that were doing that last night in honor
at John sterling Man. So good for him. I know
Michael Kay was tight with him, very emotional as a
matter of fact our next clip, we'll just keep it
right here. Hey, Dick, did you happen to hear well,
hang on a second, happened to hear that? What's that?
Speaker 4 (22:41):
Dick?
Speaker 2 (22:42):
Michael Kay was actually on TV before the game and
he was talking about John Sterling and was overcome with
emotion as he shared the one thing that John wanted
to do but was not able to do before the
legendary announcer passed away on Monday.
Speaker 13 (22:58):
So, a couple of months ago, John was having trouble,
having trouble breathing and he was rushed to the hospital. Now,
this is an eighty seven year old man, and they
said that he had had essentially so many heart attacks
in that day when he was having trouble that it
would have killed most people. And they had to perform
(23:20):
open heart surgery.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
You know.
Speaker 13 (23:22):
He came out of it, and the thing that would
get to him as he was recovering was that because
he was bedridden for a while after the surgery, he
had lost the ability to walk and that was frustrating
for him. His oldest daughter is getting married this summer.
He said, Michael, I have to walk her down the aisle.
(23:46):
And that's why he was hanging on, but he had
troubled about a week ago heart failure and then he
finally succumbed.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
But it will be walking her down as he looks
down on his family.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
The one thing he wanted to do, he was unable
to make it.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
See. I thought when I first saw the recap or
the headline of that clip, I thought Michael Kay was
going to say the one thing he wanted to do
was make the Hall of fame. And he never did. No,
it had nothing to do with the Hall of fame.
It was about his daughter and the family. I had
no idea because I know that him and Jennifer. I
told you guys yesterday that John actually married a former
kJ R producer named Jennifer Contreras and they had triplets.
(24:28):
His daughter might be one of those triplets, by the way,
I'm not certain about that. They may. I think they
had other kids besides the triplets. But uh, man, that
was sad. That was sad to hear. Holy moly. But
a guy that obviously impacted a lot of people, No,
no question about it.
Speaker 6 (24:41):
I mean, I don't know if would Michael Kay even
share the story if he said he wanted to make
he wanted to make the Hall of Fame. I mean,
it's something you kind of cure to yourself if you
want to make the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
I have been some important to him. It's important. I mean,
Mike Homer wants to make the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
We know that.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
I mean, I'm not saying it's it's not bad to
want to be honored by your peers. But I had
not heard that story. Obviously, nobody knew that story until
Michael Kate told it yesterday on his fricking radio show
in New York. Man. So again, that was their Dave
nee House. You just imagine how you felt when Dave
Kneehouse passed away. That's what Yankee fans are doing right
now in New York City. All right, Hey, Dick, did
(25:19):
you happen to hear that? What's that?
Speaker 4 (25:21):
Dick?
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Let's go to number five. ESPN's post NFL Draft special
presentation to pick us In aired on Sunday. One of
the most dramatic moments on the show included the phone
call negotiations between Dallas and Miami executives if the Cowboys
moved up in the first round, plus the call to
the NFL's command center to make the trade official seconds
before the clock ran out.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
What would you give to go one spot? It's fifty
on the charge, which is a fit?
Speaker 10 (25:46):
Well, I would if I thought Miami was gonna take
down long downs now, I'd get serious about some points.
Speaker 14 (25:54):
This Stephen Jones here in Dallas, one behind you, wondering that.
Speaker 4 (25:59):
You're gonna pick a way? Or would you guys?
Speaker 1 (26:03):
Were you guys looking.
Speaker 14 (26:04):
We'd probably throw in our fifth plus something.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
No, No, we're gonna we're gonna stay.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Okay, we'll go pick.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Okay, sounds old, no good.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
Miami is using all of its time here, Hold on, here, Steve,
we'll do then'll move.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
Back one spot.
Speaker 14 (26:21):
You'll move back one spot for a five. No, we
do one seventy seven, one eighty.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
If it's two five.
Speaker 4 (26:29):
Okay, okay, we got it.
Speaker 14 (26:32):
Hold in, hold on, hold on, guys, please be quiet.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
Hello, Hey this Stephen, Hey Steven.
Speaker 14 (26:40):
We're giving them our pick number twelve, and we're giving
them one seventy seven one eighty.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
Miami one sip, okay, yep, are we good?
Speaker 4 (26:52):
Yes, they're turning and in we got ten seconds, two
seconds that I hurt him.
Speaker 8 (26:58):
Get it in Dallas says something did it pick Miami
is on the cock calem down.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
So my question to you is this that violin that
was playing? Was that playing in the offices?
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Jerry's got live violin playing?
Speaker 2 (27:13):
Maybe he's an orchestra. It soothes it like the Titanic? Right,
what the hell? Well, you know my question. I mean,
that's really amazing audio number one U number two. Does
the NFL need to approve that before the clock runs out?
Or do the Cowboys or any team actually have to
acknowledge what the trade is? Yeah, before the clock runs.
Speaker 12 (27:33):
So the video was very interesting to go along with
that because you're right, sofy, they do have to get
the whole thing approved. And once they got the whole
thing approved, the clock said ten seconds left to get
the pick in.
Speaker 9 (27:46):
So in that ten seconds where the guy.
Speaker 12 (27:48):
Says, yeah, okay, you're good, they have to actually then
then they have them to correspond to the NFL and say,
scale let's get it downs right.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
So if you get a guy on the on the
other end of the line, you're like, we're gonna give
number twelve, one forty four, one fifty five, number twelve.
Speaker 7 (28:05):
The slot from the exactly forty number one, right? What man,
what if Della exactly.
Speaker 6 (28:18):
What if Dallas made the deal and they had ten
seconds left, they said, dllas you're on the clock.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
Okay, he guys, who do you want to take now?
Speaker 2 (28:25):
Unbelievable. We got time for one more. All right, we're
gonna break. PJ Carlismo is gonna join us. Talk some
NBA playoffs next on ninety three three KJR FM.
