Speaker 2 (00:30):
Fun with Audio.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Hey, you did you hear? That's that Dick?
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Well, we were talking about Aaron Donald. Let's go there.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Adam Schefter joined the Pat mcavey Show this weekend shared
some insights into the future of former Rams star Aaron Donald.
Speaker 5 (00:45):
He told the team that he wanted to go there, workout,
see how he felt, see how we reacted, see everything
that went along with being back in pads on the
football field and seeing how made him field. Now. I
don't know what he told him about that after he
went through those workouts at the facility, but I really
think it was just a trial method to see how
(01:08):
his whole body reacted, how was mine reacted to being
back out there? And I mean, it's an unbelievablely attractive
arrangement for him. It's just a question of whether he
wants to go through and do it. My guess is
in the end that he will. Just a guess because
obviously thinking hard about it.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Just the thought of him even thinking about it tells
me it's going to happen.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
I think it's probably gonna happen as well.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
I'm just not as worried about it as some Seahawks
fans are, just like I'm not as worried about the
ownership change as some Seahawk fans weren't. Maybe that's just
my personality. I usually it takes me. It takes a
lot for me to get really nervous about, especially things
that I have no control over. So I don't know,
you seem to be more worried about the Seahawks sales
(01:51):
situation than I am. Are you But it doesn't seem
like you're as worried you're about saying with me on
the Aaron Donald thing, you it seems well.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
I think that worst case scenario for the Seahawks, I
can kind of I have an image that's that's a
relatively in focused vision that's that's him being at about
ninety five percent of what he was and being a problem. Yes,
worst case scenario with the new owners is almost limitless,
if you, of course have being technical in terms of
(02:22):
how bad they could sabotage.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Yes, one, you could have a terrible franchise for decades.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
It effects yes, so so yeah, I think that because
of the magnitude of worst case scenarios, I'm more concerned
about ownership. Again, that's that's ignoring probability. I think the
coastals are going to be fine probability wise, it's just
the magnitude if they're not.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Hey, Hu, did you hear that?
Speaker 3 (02:46):
What's that? Dick?
Speaker 5 (02:47):
All right?
Speaker 4 (02:47):
We got to listen closely to the description of this,
because if you just hear the audio, you won't understand
what's going on.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
So you got to listen to the description and it'll
make a lot of sense.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
That you're saying, you because I actually listened. In reason
I say this because I listened to the cut first
and I was like, what's he talking about?
Speaker 3 (03:03):
But also the softy would just roll in and not.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Sis, And then I went and then I went back
and found the backstory to this, and now I realized
why Dana White was pissed. All right, So over the
weekend we had the big UFC bout right, pro boxer
secure Okay, pro boxer Shakure Stevenson attended the UFCA bout
All Right, on the UFC broadcast, they showed Shakirre Stevenson
(03:29):
sitting there watching is you know, don't you show celebrities
watching sporting events all the time?
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Right?
Speaker 4 (03:34):
They misidentified him on the UFC broadcast as Oklahoma City
thunder guard Jalen Williams. All right, so here's this boxer
that Dana White invited to sit in the front row
to have his camera people and his broadcast team focus
on him.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Hey, look who we got in the front row. And
then the.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
UFC broadcast team just fed it all up and Dana White,
the UFC CEO, what's not happy?
Speaker 2 (04:01):
In the press conference?
Speaker 6 (04:02):
My production team, we just did the White House. We
built the arena on the south lawn of the White House,
and it was the greatest thing in the world to
be there live and to watch it on TV. I
just paid Chakor Stevenson load of money. And for some reason,
we can't figure this celebrity out. They put them up
as an OKC NBA player. Are you kidding me? I mean,
(04:24):
it's just it's absolutely crazy. But we are the absolute
worst to ever do the celebrity thing. When we put
celebrities up, we are the worst. I just had this
debate in the back with my guys while I was
screaming at everybody back there, and they said, no, soccer's worst.
Soccer shows the people and they don't. They don't put
up any graphics.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Oh no, we put up graphics. They put the wrong
guy's game on.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
We win.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
We're the worst ever.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
I love Data White because he is so irreverent and
he is willing to do this. Tell me one commissioner
of any major professional sports team that ever admits to
getting anything wrong in his sport. It's always sunshiny, everything's great.
We do this well, we do that well. We're never
(05:14):
gonna fall on the sword. We're always gonna spin the
negative into a positive. And Dana White just said we
fed it up.
Speaker 7 (05:21):
Man.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Yes, I think there's there's two issues and elements to discuss.
Number one, the fact that he did admit they screw it. Well,
everybody knew that, right. But I think it's the the
color for nature to what he said, we win. That
was the the part that I've had most amusing. We went,
now we're the worst. But but would you want Roger Goodell?
(05:46):
I mean, is there not a difference in terms of
how you're gonna publicly comport yourself if you're Roger Goodell
versus Dana White.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Oh yeah, I'm not talking about the F bombs and
stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
I'm just talking about the you know, all speed of spade,
when when things suck about your sport, go out and
say they suck about the sport, right.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
And and be and be.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
You know, you don't have to always blow smoke when
you're the commissioner of a sports sports league.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Yeah, I don't think I'm articulating myself. Well, well, here's
what I'm saying. I think that Roger Goodell, I think
to your point, and I agree on times where the
NFL makes mistakes and the other commissioners, because you you
put him in in a category of other commissioners, other commitissioners.
Commissioners would be well to be a little bit more candid, yes,
(06:34):
and that we would see that candor and we would
feel feel okay, a little bit more connected. But I
think there's a big extreme between Roger Goodell coming in
and saying on a particular issue, yeah, we kind of
fumbled on that one, and we need to be better.
That's not to our standards. Apologize to the people that
had impacted what have you? Right? Like, he's he's employed
(06:55):
by thirty two NFL owners, right, and he has to
project us certain class, if you will. And so I
think that there's a middle ground between uh, admitting when
you make a mistake and going to the extreme that
Dana whit Dana White did. I love it for Dana
White because he's Dana White and he's a commissioner of UFC.
(07:16):
I don't think it would be appropriate for Adam Silver,
uh understand and the rest of them to be exactly
that color. Understand.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
I totally agree with that. Hey, Hugh, do you hear that?
Speaker 3 (07:27):
What's that?
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Yesterday?
Speaker 4 (07:28):
On a wake up barstool, Dave Portnoy and his crew
asked the question how many wins would you give up
from your favorite football team to see the USA win
the World Cup?
Speaker 8 (07:40):
I have a different question for you, guys, USA World
Cup victory, all right, and and take your favorite football team.
So Walker's Mississippi State meet Patriots. How many wins would
you change in a season for that wins too?
Speaker 3 (07:55):
You give up two wins right beat Belgium. I would
take two extra wins over a World Cup. Oh yeah,
I'll take a half time la over unless you I
would take a first down on a fourth and three.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
I'd take a first down.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
Oh for me, the number that keeps popping into my
head is two. The World Cup championship for the for
the USA is the equivalent of two Seahawks or Husky wins.
Because I think that would two Seahawks wins, I can
still make the playoffs. I'm probably not going to the
(08:42):
Super Bowl because I wouldn't have home field advantage.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
Same for the.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Huskies, Dick, if I could, Because if you're asking me
which I'd rather have the Huskies go to the playoffs
or have the world that might change when I actually
taste what it tastes like to be even close to
a World Cup championship. But since I've never done that
in my lifetime, I don't even have I can't even
fathom how excited I would.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
I'm done listening to Dick.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
Go ahead, Well, you're gonna be further done listening for
the rest of the day.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
I'm leaving a fourth and three.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
I'm gonna match Dick. I'm gonna match Dick. I'm gonna
say two, yeah, two first downs in a preseason game.
Speaker 9 (09:29):
Good bye to both of you.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Go to hell to Jalen Milroe.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
First downs in a preseason games?
Speaker 2 (09:39):
You know what, I think you?
Speaker 4 (09:41):
I got a challenge on that because I think if
if we got down the road to where the US
won the round of sixteen game and then won the
round of eight game, and then won this game today
in the round of four and they're in the championship game,
I think it would be more than a first down
in a preseason game.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Well, I would say this all joking aside, and I
always say this fan, how you want a fan? I
don't question people, of course, anymore than more soccer fans
and say why are you ordering that flavor of ice cream?
Call fan? How you want a fan?
Speaker 4 (10:16):
Or me?
Speaker 3 (10:17):
I can tell all joking aside, I would not give
up one sek wine and I wouldn't even.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Hesitate, right, Jackson, what would you give up?
Speaker 9 (10:26):
I would have the Seahawks go one in sixteen for
a USA world.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
How many years on one year? For at least one
the question was one year, one year.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
I mean that makes sense.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
You're you're a bigger soccer fan than a football fan.
Speaker 9 (10:41):
Yeah, but like it would it would take over not
only this country, it would take over the world. And
suddenly the rest of the world would be like, oh no,
we had soccer dominance over the United States.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Now what do we have?
Speaker 9 (10:54):
Imagine the United Imagine the United States being on top
of every single sport in the globe.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
Imagine that I understood, and I think all of us
who answer can can kind of have a vision of
what that would be like if the United States were
to win it. I mean, I remember the Miracle on Ice,
which still is the most significant sporting event of my lifetime.
But but uh, I know that was the question. Here's
(11:22):
a new question for you, Jackson. Would you go two
years of the Seahawks at one and fifteen, because you
know what.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Is then we're talking about it every day?
Speaker 3 (11:32):
Yeah, I would. I would.
Speaker 9 (11:33):
I would absolutely do I But Hugh, let me let
me throw this back at you, my friend. If you
if if the Miracle on Ice was as important as
it was, let's say the mirror Let's say the United
States lose. Uh, let's just say the Belgium score four
to one. Let's say they lose four to one in
that game. You flip that result and you get how
many extra Seahawks wins next year?
Speaker 3 (11:53):
You did not live through the Cold War, Q, and
the question you I kind of tuned out because I
saw where you're going. And so if you want me
to literally ask it again, here's what I'll say that
that whatever, whatever, if, if you're if we're going to compare,
I would be World Cup win versus what happened with
(12:15):
the United States and the Soviet Union. To me, I
don't think there's a comparison because you have to understand
the entire geopolitical climate of the time to understand how
where where. We just want a number. I want um.
I don't think you can quantify that. I just want
a number. I'm sorry. Repeat the question real quick, and
then I know we're going to commercial. I'll give you
(12:37):
my number. We flip the Miracle on ice?
Speaker 9 (12:39):
How many more wins do you give the Seahawks in
a single season if the Miracle on Ice result is flipped.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
I'd give up a season for the the Seas season
for the Miracle on Ice.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
It was okay, So then there you go right, all right,
there you.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Go right, Because again, fan how you want to fan,
and the fact that you would get go one to
fifteen for two straight years does not surprise me at all.
I think that's true, and that's beautiful. Keep loving your
soccer fandom. That's fun it And what do do not
try and run a parallel to sports in the world
now versus sports in the world, particularly the.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
West Soil Country Union against the.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
Countries versus the Warsaw Pac countries, all of that. That
was a different era that was terrifying in many ways,
and that that nineteen eighty hockey game given nineteen seventy
nine is the worst year in the United States of
my life. You know, all the things you watched, the miracle.
So the Soviet Union is in Afghanistan, one border away
from the Persian Gulf War where we would have gone
(13:44):
to war with them. That the whole specter of the
Soviet Union was an entirely different thing than Unless young
people absorb themselves in history, you don't know what it's like.
I'm sorry, I don't care how that sounds. You have
to know that history.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
Well, I'd give up a one in fifteen Season one
in sixteen season for the Seahawks to get the Sonics back.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Are we closer to that? We'll hear from Adam Silver next.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
Well, we got you know news newsworthy clip here from
from Adam Silver. We all want to know what's going
on in the in the basketball process, the NBA process
of coming to Seattle. So this is what Adam Silver
had to say last night in his press conference about
the potential of expansion.
Speaker 7 (14:24):
Most of the groups that are interested have not been public,
and that's Any group that's chosen to be public is
their decision. And so I wouldn't conclude that because there
isn't other public there aren't other public groups coming forward,
that therefore there isn't other interest in Seattle. There is,
(14:45):
And I would also say saying in Las Vegas some
groups have been public. The majority of groups have not
been public. So stop there on that portion. In terms
of the process. Over the last two days there were
discussions both at the committee level and before the board
from Paul Taubman, our outside banker, about how the process
(15:08):
is going, what he's hearing from the groups. As I
said earlier, price is one component, but I think there
was as much interest as in who the groups would be,
what the overall composition of ownership, and of course where
they would play. And I'm still hopeful again that this
process would be wrapped up by year end, and I
(15:29):
feel we're very much on track.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
Yeah, Jackson, you mentioning that Greg Bell today was talking
about and kind of frustrated the kicking the can down
the road type thing, and I would just respond like this,
it's not kicking the can down the road until the
date is changed, then it's kicking the can down the road.
If Adam Silver told us months ago it would be
done by the end of the year and he is
(15:52):
still telling us it will be done by the end
of the year, then who cares when the vote is
Why does it matter if the votes in July are
in September, as long as it's done by the end
of the year and the team starts playing in twenty
eight twenty nine. So I don't see that as kicking
the can down the road here.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
Yeah, he's in March that they want to have the
vote by the end of the year.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
They want to have there.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
There was a lot of media that speculated that they
would have it by the end of the summer. Correct,
you can't tie a quote to my knowledge that Silver
ever said that. That's right, But he also said in
that quote you just played, he said, I'm still I'm hopeful.
That okay, hopeful. You know what that does, It leads
the door wide open to a delay that's not guaranteeing
(16:38):
any vote. So so if you wanted to pick a
pessimist an optimistic side and say, hey, everything's going, You've
got a fair amount of data at your disposal. I mean,
you've got you've got the media rites deal done, that
was one of the bloxers. You've got multiple bidders in
both cities. As from the Seattle perspective, you've got, uh
(16:58):
the Halloway one room organization. That bid seems to be
very solid. You know, Milindigates joins that every there's a
lot of things if you want to be an optimist
that you can cite as a means for your optimism.
If you want to be a pessimist, there's also some things.
(17:20):
I mean, as Adam Silver said before, we're selling the equity,
which is much more difficult in certain economies. When you
look at hey, one thirtieth of their media distribution is
going to become one thirty second and in the end,
(17:40):
eight votes kills this. There may be many owners that
are just going, yeah, I'll wait and see what my
options are. I'll push off my vote, my decision until
I have to. I still have I still have the
better part of half a year that's right to push
off my decision. And it only takes eight I mean,
(18:02):
just remember in twenty thirteen, Seattle had the Hanson Group,
they had the money, they had the arena, they had
assigned kings deal, and the owners voted it down anyway,
I think twenty two to eight, like like well, David Stern.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
David Stern pushed that though David Stern buddied up with
Kevin Johnson and Sacramento and pushed that Adamsa's not pushing
them to vote against this.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
No, but it shows that you've got a process where
the owners they ultimately they're going to listen to the commissioner,
but they still are going to make their own decisions.
And so.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
I feel like, I feel like the level of optimism
tell me if I'm wrong. I feel like the level
of optimism or pessimism from the fans and the media
members out there. Greg Belly and Fernas who's you know,
he infness, he's been ripping on the NBA for years, right,
He's chose to go down that road. I choose to
(19:07):
go down the road of I didn't blame the NBA in.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
The first place for the Sonics leaving.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
I feel like the level of optimists or pessimism in
this situation is equivalent to the level of blame that
you put on the NBA in the first place for
the Sonics leaving, and the level of trust you have
in the NBA.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
And I just don't think that.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
I mean, I think they're two different They're two completely
different entities, the NBA in two thousand and eight and
the NBA in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
In my opinion, Yeah, I mean, there may be those
that do link them together. And you say, okay, I'm
I've vivid memories of the emotional sting and so that
impacts how I reason this through. Certainly that's a possibility.
I'm sure that's true. But I just look and I say, okay,
what are the reasons why eight owners might want to
(20:05):
not expand Well, you know, first of all, you're lessening
your chance of making the playoffs or winning a championship.
So there's a competitive part of that. There's arguments about
the talent dilution, whether or not that is is has merit.
I mean somebody could you could get an expert come
(20:26):
up and say, are you kidding me? All the talent
we have around the world that we can't afford, we
don't have enough talent to supply two extra teams. Of
course you do, but it's still diluted. And in the
minds of some that could be meaningful. It only takes
It's the state of mind of eight out of thirty owners, right,
and is there anything real or imagine that could cause
(20:50):
them to say, you know what, I'm voting against this?
They have no, there's nothing. And by the way, alliances
could be made right the big market you know New
York or LA don't they don't want it. And all
of a sudden, you know, Phoenix is new their owner.
Uh do they really want to dilute? You know? Like
like you can you can draw up a scenario who say, well,
(21:10):
I could see how he'd be a no vote. I'd see,
uh see how he could be a no vote. I
could see how he's aligned with him and he could
that could be a no vote. Uh, And and pretty
soon I could I could see eight votes tallied, and
and and you don't get it. Do I think it'll happen.
I think it's more probable than fifty percent, but I
I I do not think it's a slam dunk and
(21:32):
uh and and for the for the simple reasons of
why would they want to dilute their equity?
Speaker 4 (21:37):
When it comes to Adam Silver talking about the there's
three possible scenarios when it comes to the ownership group
or groups that are out there in Seattle, he says
there are multiple ownership groups that only one wants to
to be public.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Well, scenario's number one.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
Scenario number one is he's not telling the truth and
there's only one ownership group, but bad to say that
there's only one ownership group. Scenario number two is that
there's only one legitimate group and maybe others that are
kind of frivolous groups, but they are groups. They have
(22:14):
submitted a bid, but they're not nearly as concrete as
the Holloway Gates group. That to me is probably the
most likely scenario. And then option three is there's serious
competition for Gates and Holloway, and that to me is
the least likely.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
Scenario of the three.
Speaker 4 (22:36):
I mean, think about what you would have to do
to buy that team. You would have to come up
with the eight whatever billion dollars it's going to be
to buy that team, And then what are you going
to do? Pay gates in Holloway to play in the
arena or you spend another two and a half billion
(22:56):
dollars on an arena that the city doesn't need. I
mean that that to me doesn't pencil out. Scenario three
doesn't pencil out at all.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
You Yeah, I think you make a good point. I
don't think we know, we don't know what type of
owners are going to merge or what have you. I
but I would say Adam Silver's job is to present
like the good ship NBA as like it's it's on
(23:27):
the tracks, so many lucrative train to be on. Don't
you want to jump on board? I'll you know, you
got to like like think of where we're going, what
we've been, All the moneys are, all the owners are
making money, they're happy. Like he wants to just sell
(23:48):
the the optimism, the stability, sell all of that. So
he's going to come out and and express publicly exactly
how he has and guess what he's not. He's noncommittal.
When he says like, I'm hopeful we get I'm still
hopeful we get a vote by the end of the year.
That leaves the door wide open because guess what on
(24:10):
January second, when he starts getting grilled, he said, wait
a minute, you said there's gonna be a vote. He said, well,
check the transcript. What I said back in July was
that I was hopeful that there'd be a vote. Right
so at an event, I think that we're still in
a state of flux. There's ample reasons to be optimistic.
(24:33):
And I don't call it ample, but there's significant reasons
to be concerned if if that's ultimately what we all wants,
which I presume most of our listeners that's what we want,
is we want the Sonics back. But just ask yourself
this would would you would you bet a year's salary
that they're coming back? I mean, if you if you
(24:55):
bet it and they get it, you get to your salary,
I get like three thousand dollars.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
That much?
Speaker 4 (25:03):
Yeah, I oh, gotcha? He say, three years? Okay, gotcha. Well,
just I'm very optimistic. I'm you know it, softie and
I've talked about the numbers before. I'm in the nineties.
I'm around ninety. I mean, I'm I'm that optimistic that
that that this is going to come through. I understand
all your points. I think all your all your points
are valid. But I think we've been tracking for this for.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
A long, long, long time.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
And I don't think Adam Silver goes this far down
the road. If he doesn't know, he doesn't happen.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
I think you're right, and I'm at sixty seven percent,
and and you know, and very believe. You might say
I told you a millan. I said, well, you know,
I believe it, so I still think it's more more.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
It's not like you're ten percent. You know, then I
can say I told you so.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
No, here's what I and I you know, I'm not
going to hunt for the podcast, but I could find
the shows where where Dave bless his Heart was basically
did he not admit to crying about that? Like he said?
Speaker 2 (25:57):
He said, done deal? Yeah, Dundale Right.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
And to me, when you guys had me on ask
my opinion, I said, I'm pumping the brakes on that.
I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna withhold the emotional give in
until I see more, because I think there's a solid
thirty three percent chance it ain't happening.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
The next scheduled meter meeting for the owners and the
next update on expansion will be in September, and then
they could they could have an additional meeting later on
in the fall if September is too soon. So again
the quote is, I'm still hopeful this process will be
wrapped up by the end of the year. I still
feel like we're very much on track. That was the
(26:37):
quote from Adam Silver. You're right if we want to.
I mean, the optimists will focus on very much on track.
The skeptics will focus on the word hopeful and say, well,
oh a second, you didn't say we're gonna vote now.
Now all of a sudden, you're not saying say we're
not gonna vote.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
But by the end of the year. And also, Dick,
I didn't see trying to buck me off. You can
be on I five headed to San Diego. You can
get off in Eugene, you can get off in Corvale.
Don't get off in like don't get off. Yeah, that's
the whole point. That's a bad thing, right, Like a
lot of.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
Things a lot of things just because you're on track.
So he certain in one sentence, he says, on track mean, well,
we weren't on track back in July, and then that
we hit a switch on the train track and we're
on a different track. So he can he can backpedal
from this, and he can backpedal by saying, well, I
was hopeful there'd be a vote, and you know it
(27:28):
didn't come to fruition. I'm hopeful we can get a
vote in the next pick a day, six months, what have.
You Just keep pushing it on, so I don't know.
It's probably right, but you you might might might not be.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
We talked yesterday about the Seahawks rankings and how few
Seahawks players had been ranked in the ESPN votes by
the front office members of the NFL in the top
ten at their position. Well, we've we figured we'd have
another one when the wide receivers were released, and we
do have another one. We'll find out where JSN is
(28:02):
coming up next.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
Now back just Softie and Dick.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
Moving into the football side of discussion here, but here
you wanted to wrap up something that we were chatting
up on.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
The line way, I just, I just it occurred to
me that if I said in March that I thought
I was sixty seven percent, that I think that it's
more good has happened since then, so I think it's
more like seventy seventy five.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Oh so you've moved in the road, You've moved in
my direction. Okay, fair enough, fair enough.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
Yesterday we spent a lot of time talking about the
polls that ESPN has come out with, and I kind
of like these poles because they're not media polls.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
They're not hacks like us, you know, ranking players.
Speaker 4 (28:59):
They're they're actually gms and scouts and executives who whose
job it is to evaluate these players on a year
by year basis, and they have ranked each in every position.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
We only have one position left to be ranked.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
But wide receiver was the one that came out over
the last twenty four hours and Jackson Smith and Jigba
ranked third in the wide receiver rankings, and it's a
massive jump. He was unranked last year. I think he
was others receiving votes last year, So a big jump
for JSN. I guess what struck me was the fact
(29:37):
that he wasn't highed last year despite remember let's remember
he had a hundred catch eleven hundred and thirty yard
season in twenty twenty four. I mean it's just like,
let those numbers rattle around your brain for a second.
One hundred catches and eleven thirty and he wasn't ranked
in the top ten coming into this year, but he
(29:57):
certainly outplayed those numbers this year with his seventeen hundre
uh yard season. Did you think it was kind of
a fair where JSN was ranked.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
I think so. I think that I I think he's
probably I think that Puka Nakua is a little better.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
But Puka was ranked fourth by the Way.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
Fourth receiver.
Speaker 4 (30:22):
Yes, it was a Chase Jefferson, JSN Puka. Yeah, I
think Puka's a little better. Just if I had to
have him for one one or the other for one year,
it'd be very difficult. But I think that's a great list.
Jefferson was probably the guy two years ago. In most
(30:45):
people's mind, they have a list for what's the highest
rank he's ever been. I bet Justin Jefferson's highest rank
is number one. Ever Justin Jefferson last year was one. Yes,
the highest ever was one. Lowest ranking was five for
Justin Jefferson. Highest ranking for Jamar Chase now is one.
Lowest rankings number three. Jamar Chays has never been ranked
(31:07):
lower than the three.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
Right, right, you know what, you'd love to have any
of them they have. They all have very similar strengths
in some regard, maybe subtle.
Speaker 4 (31:16):
But just different than those two guys though, right, I mean,
those two guys just strike me as more I don't know,
outside over the top, you know, going up in moss
and people. Maybe maybe I'm wrong with those guys strike
me where I see JSN is.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
Just like the route merchant, you know.
Speaker 4 (31:34):
Is.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
But I mean just they don't run great routes too.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
But yeah, well, I think Justin Jefferson is outside a
little bit more. I think, uh, Chase Chase might be
outside a little bit more. But I think that they
both go inside. They both have incredible body control. They
they all of them, have incredible body control, elite closing
(31:58):
with the ball in the air, tracking the ball, finishing
in traffic. What have you. I think that where Puoka
I think it distinguishes himself above JSN is he's just
much stronger. And Jaysn is not weak by any mean.
I mean he's strong to the ball. But but Pooka
is one of the strongest receivers I've ever seen, and
(32:20):
that shows up in every single game. How you know,
they throw him a bubble screen and you got better
be careful out there's tackling him in in space because
he just he runs like a fullback. So his overall
football strength is is just about as good as I've
ever seen from a wide receiver.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
So jays N can certainly be considered a breakout. When
you are ranked outside the top ten at your position
and you go up to third at your position in
one year according to the NFL execs. I was it
made me think about, Okay, who's who's the breakout. Who's
the Seahawks breakouts for this year? So when we have
(32:57):
this list three hundred and sixty five day from now,
who's going to be the guy that's not in the
top ten? Right, now maybe he's receiving votes. Maybe he's
not receiving votes and becomes a guy that's significantly high
on this list, and a couple of guys jump out.
We talked about him both yesterday. Nicki man worri did
(33:20):
not receive any votes on this list this year. I
would not at all be surprised to see him in
the top five. I don't know what position, whether it's
safety or whether it's outside linbigger. They only have edge,
they don't have the they have off ball linebackers in edge,
and I don't really I don't know if nick A
(33:40):
man Worriy would fit the EDGE top five because Nicki
eman Worriy likely is not going to have double digit
sacks unless they have him really rush the quarterback a ton,
then I think he could. I think nick Aami and
worri could probably do whatever he wants to do and
if they rushed.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
Him enough, he could have ten sacks.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
Right. Well, the pressure rate is the second highest in
the entire NFL. Right, but they just sixty two press
sixty two blitzes eighteen pressures. That twenty nine percent is
the second highest in the NFL. So so yeah, I
think he can do anything. I would say, uh, you know,
off ball, you know you want to call him a nickel,
you want to call him you know, he plays, he
(34:18):
plays the dime when Witherspoon comes in, and he goes
from the generally the the the field side to the
boundary side. He's very versatile, man and man. We've talked about.
You know, he's led the NFL last year in passes
defense by any non cornerback. So the versatility is there.
So yeah, if you're talking about breakouts, to me, I'm
(34:42):
kind of looking at the I'll go first stringer, second stringer,
and then depth first stringer Nick Ammon Worry.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
We discussed that, right I think. I think Byron Murphy too.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
I think Murphy.
Speaker 4 (34:55):
Yeah, so there is he was only audible mention this year.
He was not in the top ten of defense, and
I thought he's he could be five or six and
I wouldn't blink. He could have been exactly where Leonard
Williams was and I wouldn't blink. So so there's two
second we'll call him second stringers.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
Right now. I'll give you two, one on each side
of the ball. Dante Fowler because Mike McDonald has shown
ability to identify these quote unquote long in the tooth
ends and get great productivity out of them. His last
year at Baltimore he had uh Clowney Clowney and oh
(35:33):
van Noy Kyle van Noy. So both of those guys
were on the wrong side of thirty had been with
at least five teams, Clowney and Van Noy, and yet
they led the Ravens. Did they led the NFL in
sacks as a team with you know, relatively pedession. You
don't think you know, he said Clowney, wasn't he a
number one overall pick? Yeah, But by the time he
(35:55):
was at that stage, having ben Helly was in Seattle,
you know that he had bounced around. Then you also say,
look at what he's done with Leonard Williams a little
older DeMarcus Lawrence last year. So I think he knows
how to use aging good athlete defensive ends in those
you know, load to almost mid thirties. So I think
(36:16):
Dante Fowler and then the other one would be Elijah Royo.
I think there's there, there's more athleticism. There's a lot
of meat on that bone from what we did not
see from him. Now it's gonna be tough because A. J.
Barner is also emerging, right he's an Escalan and Eric
Sauber is a terrific blocker. But I think somehow Arroyo
(36:37):
has got to give you more than he did last year.
And I think he has the ability to be a
top level receiving tight end if his technique improves. There's
things I don't like about his unique I think he
chops a step too much at the top of the route.
I'd love to see him speed cut and uses athleticism
to create separations. But I think that there's enough athleticism there.
(36:59):
And then two two depth players. Remember that many people
when I hear you hear this, you're gonna say, who
safety A J. Finley?
Speaker 1 (37:09):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (37:10):
Six two? About two ten big safety? And remember now
you lose Kobe Bryant, so that there's a little bit
of a safety, remember AJ Finley. And then defensive end
an edge rusher, let's see Jared Ivy. Okay, Just just
remember like that those are two depth guys that could
(37:32):
come from nowhere, from out of the back of the
pack to be contributors here that if you said breakout players,
that's in three levels. First, second, and third stringers.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
How about you mentioned Aj Barner.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
He my level is you know what we talked about
em and worry Byron Murphy. Do they become elite, you know,
elite top five players at their positioned in the league.
And then I kind of have from unknown to known
right that most people you mentioned Aj Barner, most people
around the NFL probably doesn't know don't know who Aj
Barner is. And they maybe remember, oh, he called a
(38:07):
super touchdown in the Super Bowl. Maybe, but he's not
a household tight end name. I kind of feel like
he could become a household name at tight end in
the NFL this year if he gets enough targets. But
couldn't he become the number two option in this passing game?
Speaker 3 (38:24):
Sure? Sure, I think that there was a lot of
times when things were kind of sluggish and clunky. I
could show you a text I have with my friends
and and and you know, and we're, you know, five
minutes in the third quarter, and I'm like, we're you know,
late second quarter. I'm like, throw it to Barner. Every
time you flip the switch and Barner it seems like
he was a catalyst too, Like, oh, got got a
(38:48):
nine yard completion to Barner, and then it seems like
the next Yeah, I got the training run on track.
So I'm absolutely and and and uh. I feel like
I don't get fooled very often. When I see guys
up close in person, what if I've seen them on TV.
I kind of form, you know, I think nine times
(39:08):
out of ten or four times out of five at least,
I form. I think a relatively accurate picture so that
when I see them in the hoof, I'm not surprised.
I'm like, yeah, that's how that's how I envisioned it.
AJ Barner is one of those ten, ten fifteen percent
of the guys that when I saw him on the
hoof and I was standing six feet away from him,
and I played with eight Pro Bowl tight end guys,
(39:30):
and you know, I stand on the you know, sideline
with them looking at the modern players. Uh.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
He looks at and I was like, oh, I had
no idea he was cut like like he is a big, tall,
incredible stature in terms of wide souldiers, narrow waste.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
But strong all through his pants. Some people get all
tweaked when I say he's got an ass on him.
I like girls, and nothing but girls. I've been married
for thirty years. But everybody knows, if you know about
physiology in kinesiology, that your ass is your strongest muscle
in your body. And you show me a guy who
(40:11):
can run and hit it probably has an ass on
and A J. Barner is just like like that freaking
frame is like whoa. And so when I see the
athletic movement from him, I say, yeah, God was in
a good mood when he put AJ Barner together, And
so yeah, I'm bullish on that dude. He can do
(40:33):
everything you say. I'm not going to put a lid
on him because I think that he's got the talent level.
You know, it wasn't Colston Lovestad number eighteen. Oh we
didn't get number eighteen from Michigan. Who do we get Barner?
Speaker 8 (40:44):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (40:44):
You mean the other guy from Michigan. That's what I
thought when we drafted.
Speaker 4 (40:47):
Yeah, right, he might be the best Michigan tight end
of the two. Could I meant.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
Goody yeah Cleveland? Yeah yeah, but he was the Barner
was the less celebrated of the two.
