just feels like they are totally void of any leadership

badgering them all year. The manager is pulling from the

He looks like he's just done and waiting for the
season to be over. Randy a Rose Arena looks like
he couldn't give a damn about anything going on out there.

Julio in center field on Friday for the home run derby.

and it fell apart fast, and now they're just waiting

not be judged, it's Mariner fans, honestly. But the one
thing that's given me hope is the obvious one. It's
that little number four behind the GB in that column
in the American League West. They got four. They're four
games out. This is not insurmountable. The problem is their schedule.
They got three with the Yankees, they got the Astros,

they got the Phillies, they got the Brewers, they got
the Cubs. And I would just say this, all right,
you know what, you've fed around for four and a
half months here. Now guess what you get to do
now you get to try and do things the hard way. Now,
this idea of just going five hundred against teams that
are above five hundred. Now we need like five thirty,
may as well make a fifty four percent.

What the hell? Now we need five to fifty ball.
Now you're gonna have to do.

Things the hard, which means getting back into this thing
against this murderers row schedule. And as I said last night, Dick,
you know the playoffs, I'm like playoffs. I'm not even
thinking about playoffs. My concern is being ten games under
when we all wake up on Friday morning.

That's my concern. I mean, they're closer to ten games
under than they are the playoffs right now. And it
feels like this thing could get this thing could spiral
out of control fast.

And when I mean out of control, I mean they
don't even make the playoffs, they don't finish above five hundred,
and maybe they end up losing eighty five to ninety
games and just going to a death spin between now
and the end.

That absolutely could happen. This sixteen game stretch that they've
got starting tomorrow, Dick against the Yankees, and it was
nineteen with the Rays starting on Friday. They started off
zero to three. Okay, they got sixteen games left to go.
If they pull a you know, a four and fifteen
out of their ass and they just wake up and
they're fifteen games under and they're nine games at you

think they don't give it damn now, oh wait till
the end of August, big boy.

I'm wondering could that potentially? Could that scenario potentially be
a good thing? And what I mean by that is this,
if the Mariners were to twenty twenty one it right
and rally and finish like eighty five and seventy seven,
eighty six and seventy six and don't make the playoffs,
does Jerry see that as oh, you know, but the.

First four months were just a fluke.

We're really a good team, we showed at the end,
and he doesn't do Jack squat to make him any better.

he has to make.

Them significantly better, or you would think he has to
make them significantly better, because not even Jerry and his
most optimistic thoughts could think we're close to a playoff team.

Well, that would be a team that would drastically underperform.
I think we would agree on that. You know, are
they a team on paper that should have had the
best record in baseball. No, or they a team on
paper that probably should have won the division, especially if
the division is an eighty three win team.

Absolutely. So, Look, I mean there's two things. There's what
would we do? And what will they do? Right?
Speaker 2 (09:16):
And I don't get the sense yet and I might
be massively wrong on this. I look at Stanton, who
I believe is the one that makes the majority of
the decisions for the ball club, Chris Laarson.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
I don't know him from Adam.

I have no idea what the guy's voice even sounds like,
which is sad that the majority owner of the Mariners
never talks to anybody. But I don't get the sense
that Stanton is ready to jump off Jerry's wagon. And
I don't get the sense he's ready to jump off
Dan Wilson's wagon either. I think he has a lot
of affinity for both those guys. I think he loves
Dan Wilson like a son. I think he appreciates what

Jerry has done, ending the playoff streak, getting them as
far as they've ever gone, making the minor league system
in some ways the envy of all of baseball. I
think John stant and believes all that stuff to his core,
and I think it would take a catastrophic event, catastrophic
event for him to fire those guys at the end.

Of the year.

I really do what that means. Well, maybe it means
losing twenty out of twenty five to end the year right,
Maybe it means a big, gigantic fight in the clubhouse.
Maybe it means, you know, some kind of suspension. I
have no idea. Man, I just don't get the sense,
Dick that he's ready yet to pull the plug on
either one of those dudes after what happened last year.

I think in his mind, I honestly believe this, in
his mind, I think last year bought those guys a
lot of equity.

Well, I think I think it buys Jerry more time
than it buys Dan.

With Stan, No, with Stan, I would end with me too.

I mean with me too, because Dan has never shown
any ability to be a great manager or even good man,
or at least Jerry depota. I mean, you can make
a list of twenty things that Jerry has done, and
some of them good, some of them bad. I mean
there's i'd say twelve or thirteen out of the twenty
are good, you know, but the patience with him wears
off after a certain amount of time.

We weren't criticizing Jerry going into the season. We were
all saying, hey, Jerry, you've built a prett damn good
baseball team. And you know, he takes some of the
responsibility for the underperformance of the team, but I don't
think he takes the majority of it.

It's the players.

Yeah, I think he takes a ton of it. And Dick,
I agree with you on the player thing, I really do.
I think you're right that in the end, these are
grown ass men, right. These aren't rookies, They're not second
year guys. They're veterans, almost all of them. I mean, actually,
the guys that are the youngest are the ones that
in some ways are performing the best. I mean, Cole
Young's having a hell of a year by his standards.
I mean, Emerson's not doing great, but he's eight years old,

I mean, well he still consider right.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
But I just think for Jerry, like the moves that
Jerry made, and this is the This is the other
problem with a lot of this is that when you're
when you're not transparent about things, nobody really knows, Like,
you know, did John not want to provide the capitol
to go after free agents? Was there a trade Dick
that Jerry wanted to make that John wouldn't approve because
of how much a contract costs.

All I know is this that they made three major
moves over the offseason. I thought they were decent moves
in Ref Schneider, Brendan Donovan, and Jose Ferrer. And for
the most part, all three of them have tanked. Donovan's tanked,
Ref Schneider's tanked, and Jose Ferrer has been okay, okay,
but he hasn't been elite.

I thought Jose Ferrer was gonna come in here and
be a real big time cog for that bullpen, and
that just hasn't happened yet. He's been way too inconsistent. Man,
going back to the start of the year, you know,
Ref Schneider, and you know I mentioned this. I think
to Hugh when you were gone, if Rob ref Schneider
were a Seahawk linebacker, he would have been cut in April.
Godn A real team looks at that deal and says,

we're paying him nothing five million, whatever the hell it
is there's got to be a better option out there
to hit left handed pitching.

Get rid of this guy. He's over the hill. They
can't get it done. Instead, they sit around around, they
sit around, and they lose games, waiting for Rob Refsneider
to start doing what they signed him to do, and
then when they make a move, it's too late.

I'm glad you brought that up waiting around, because look
at this offense. How do you fix an offense when
you just wait around to hope that it turns around.
Hope is not a strategy. Hope is not a plan.
When have you seen any adjustments made to this up, uh,
this offense other than shaking up the lineup and putting
Calid eight or what have you like, There's no it's

simply again just waiting for the three run home run.
And the three run home run used to come frequently
and it does not come at all anymore.

Well, I think that's part of the criticism that's valid
for Jerry, is that when you build a team that's
so reliant on the home run, it doesn't happen. You
got to have another option, and they have no other option.
So you know, again, I mean right now, on paper,
if the majority of this team comes back, you know,
Naylor's your first baseman, Cole Young's your second basement. Cole
Young's gonna be your short You're excuse me, Cold Emerson's

gonna be your short stop. Donovan maybe is your third baseman.
Who knows Juliowen center? God knows who and right, God
knows who. In left call Itt catcher, God knows who
in DH They're gonna need to go develop and get
some actual hitters, people that just don't rely on the
home run because their numbers on the home run ball
are way down and their offense is down because of it.

And they've gone from ninth to thirtieth and run scored,
they've gone from third to sixteenth and runs ten to
twenty eighth and ops at eleven to twenty sixth and
on base percentage. So this is the way this team
was built. That's where the criticism of Jerry comes into play.

Hey, when it works great, When it doesn't, you get
to blame because that's the risk that you took.

They're the basketball team that all they can do is
shoot threes, and then the opponents did adjust to them
and say, oh, you're not quick enough to beat me

two feet and guess what, You're not gonna get any
threes off.

Do those teams usually win titles? No, that are built
by the three? Honestly, do they win?

and odds. From Friday to now, they have gone from

in three days. Vegas has stopped believing in the Seattle Mariners.

would just say, what do you expect people to think?

take any responsibility your stars. Your stars don't address anybody, right,
you don't hear anything. No leaders are stepping up for
anything that remotely resembles any accountability.

show that I think is dead on. It actually may
have been with Chuck this morning. I was driving around town,
took my mom out for breakfast, had a great time,

I heard him and Greg talking, and you know, Greg's
point was said, Hey, look, if if Terry and Arnold
gets cleared by a judge and doesn't go to jail

for life, okay, then the Seahawks just want to be
in line to sign him, right if he's if he's
available to play, they want to be in line.

just depends on how much faith you have in the
American legal system, right that if a guy is really guilty,

I mean, the charges obviously are horrible, right on what

Florida last February, he had a lot of stuff ripped off,

including one hundred grand in cash, eighty thousand dollars, necklaces,
blah blah blah whatever. Then terry On, apparently Dick and
a group of his pals allegedly decided to take matters
into their own hands, got three men they thought were
responsible for robbing them, basically beat the crap out of him,

And if they're not true and the guy is exonerated

I think that there's been a lot of other guys
that have gone through legal issues that have been cut
and they are toxic like they are not even sniffed
at by other teams.

right now despite this, and I'm reading the statement from
his attorney and obviously though of all this, hopefully we'll

me is that they say there is substantial incentives to

then I think the Seahawks you owe it to themselves
with the losses in the secondary that they just took,
you know, to take a look at the guy, and
you know, look, he may get exonerated and they may
have found something this weekend when they brought him into
camp for a tryout that they don't like. I mean

they've done that multiple times in the John Schneider era,
you know Pete Carroll as well. Were they bring in somebody,
give him a tryout, you know, it doesn't go very well.
They don't like his attitude whatever. When they're a meeting
with Jalen Carter before the draft, Yes, they didn't like

I'm in the best shape as possible. You know, football shape,
you know that's a that's a different thing. But just
having your body you know prepared, you know to go
through that, you know, go through that to you know,
them tough battles, you know, trying to get back in
football shape and you know, things of that nature. So
really just trying to do everything in my power, you know,

to come back and being you know in decent you know,
decent shape, great shape.

Is it is it important for you guys over the
off season Byron to get away from this vacation family time,
just quit football for a week, two weeks to month whatever.
Is that important? If so, how do you do that?

It's very important, man, because you know, once you come back,
you know, you here, you here from months, you know,
and then the season it's a it's a very long season,
you know, eighteen games and plus two you know, don't
make the playoffs then go all the way, so that's
the season even longer. So really, man, in the off season,
I'll try to, you know, get away, you know, as
much as I can, but not too much. But you know,

taking food trips, you know, Enjordia faund you know, just
you know, just take time. I'll get away from ball,
you know, because at the end of the day, you know,
I'm more than just you know, a football player. So yeah, yeah,
really just try to try to hold in on them.

Where you like that in college at Texas? Or did
you kind of really become a film junkie when you
got here?

I really tried to. I really became a film junkie.
When I got to the league college, I watched film,
but I really didn't have to watch it like that.

Yeah, Well, one thing that we've noticed about you, Biron
Murphy is with us on the air. And first of all,
I first got to know you a little bit when
you were wrecking the Husky offensive line and that in
New Orleans. I know you weren't pleased with the way
that game went, but I certainly was. But you know what,
we gave it back. Yeah, we got your super Bowl right.
You go to a knee to absorb double teams, right,

which is kind of unusual, to say the least, but
you somehow hold your ground even on your knees more
so and even get maybe when you're on your feet.

So when I was at ut you know when I
got there, when I robbed on campus my freshman year,
I had a d line coach named Bo Davis, name
of bow Dave, shut out bow man. Uh. He taught
me that technique. You know, he had me on the
sled every day. I just you know, working that technique,
just dropping that knee, reducing this. You know that that shoulder,
you know, just reducing my surface and everything and turning

that shoulder, not giving you know, an old line and
a half any any type of you know, surface area
onto where he can push on me. All all he
can do, you know, is push on my back so
pretty much or I'm anchoring into the ground. I'm a
strong guy. So you once you push it on me,
and then also to me knowing our old lineman gosta
clown to the linebacker, so soon as he finna, I

know he gotta come off at any time because the
linebacker coming down. So soon as he come off, boom,
I'm throwing the primary man off me and I'm getting
up making the place. It's that simple. But yeah, I
worked on it for years though it took me a
while to get it, but wow, now I just mastered it.
So now like when they come to playing doubles, I'm
not I'm not worried about him, Like I'm so used
to playing them and so used to like reacting to

him and seeing them from a mall away. So it's
it's really a piece of cake.

Well, it's unbelievable to watch, and I just hope that
you know that right that does not go unnoticed exactly effort.

They got three with the Yankees, they got the Astros,

they got the Phillies, they got the Brewers, they got
the Cubs. And I would just say this, all right,
you know what, you've fed around for four and a
half months here. Now guess what you get to do
now you get to try and do things the hard way. Now,
this idea of just going five hundred against teams that
are above five hundred. Now we need like five thirty,
may as well make a fifty four percent.

Now you're gonna have to do.

Things the hard, which means getting back into this thing
against this murderers row schedule. And as I said last night, Dick,
you know the playoffs, I'm like playoffs. I'm not even
thinking about playoffs. My concern is being ten games under
when we all wake up on Friday morning.

That's my concern. I mean, they're closer to ten games
under than they are the playoffs right now. And it
feels like this thing could get this thing could spiral
out of control fast.

And when I mean out of control, I mean they
don't even make the playoffs, they don't finish above five hundred,
and maybe they end up losing eighty five to ninety
games and just going to a death spin between now

That absolutely could happen. This sixteen game stretch that they've
got starting tomorrow, Dick against the Yankees, and it was
nineteen with the Rays starting on Friday. They started off

out of their ass and they just wake up and
they're fifteen games under and they're nine games at you

think they don't give it damn now, oh wait till
the end of August, big boy.

I'm wondering could that potentially? Could that scenario potentially be
a good thing? And what I mean by that is this,
if the Mariners were to twenty twenty one it right

eighty six and seventy six and don't make the playoffs,

First four months were just a fluke.

We're really a good team, we showed at the end,
and he doesn't do Jack squat to make him any better.

Them significantly better, or you would think he has to
make them significantly better, because not even Jerry and his
most optimistic thoughts could think we're close to a playoff team.

Well, that would be a team that would drastically underperform.
I think we would agree on that. You know, are
they a team on paper that should have had the
best record in baseball. No, or they a team on
paper that probably should have won the division, especially if
the division is an eighty three win team.

Absolutely. So, Look, I mean there's two things. There's what
would we do? And what will they do? Right?

And I don't get the sense yet and I might
be massively wrong on this. I look at Stanton, who
I believe is the one that makes the majority of
the decisions for the ball club, Chris Laarson.

I don't know him from Adam.

I have no idea what the guy's voice even sounds like,
which is sad that the majority owner of the Mariners
never talks to anybody. But I don't get the sense
that Stanton is ready to jump off Jerry's wagon. And
I don't get the sense he's ready to jump off
Dan Wilson's wagon either. I think he has a lot
of affinity for both those guys. I think he loves
Dan Wilson like a son. I think he appreciates what

Jerry has done, ending the playoff streak, getting them as
far as they've ever gone, making the minor league system
in some ways the envy of all of baseball. I
think John stant and believes all that stuff to his core,
and I think it would take a catastrophic event, catastrophic
event for him to fire those guys at the end.

I really do what that means. Well, maybe it means
losing twenty out of twenty five to end the year right,
Maybe it means a big, gigantic fight in the clubhouse.
Maybe it means, you know, some kind of suspension. I
have no idea. Man, I just don't get the sense,
Dick that he's ready yet to pull the plug on
either one of those dudes after what happened last year.

I think in his mind, I honestly believe this, in
his mind, I think last year bought those guys a
lot of equity.

Well, I think I think it buys Jerry more time
than it buys Dan.

I mean with me too, because Dan has never shown
any ability to be a great manager or even good man,
or at least Jerry depota. I mean, you can make
a list of twenty things that Jerry has done, and
some of them good, some of them bad. I mean
there's i'd say twelve or thirteen out of the twenty
are good, you know, but the patience with him wears
off after a certain amount of time.

We weren't criticizing Jerry going into the season. We were
all saying, hey, Jerry, you've built a prett damn good
baseball team. And you know, he takes some of the
responsibility for the underperformance of the team, but I don't
think he takes the majority of it.

Yeah, I think he takes a ton of it. And Dick,
I agree with you on the player thing, I really do.
I think you're right that in the end, these are
grown ass men, right. These aren't rookies, They're not second
year guys. They're veterans, almost all of them. I mean, actually,
the guys that are the youngest are the ones that
in some ways are performing the best. I mean, Cole
Young's having a hell of a year by his standards.
I mean, Emerson's not doing great, but he's eight years old,

I mean, well he still consider right.

But I just think for Jerry, like the moves that
Jerry made, and this is the This is the other
problem with a lot of this is that when you're
when you're not transparent about things, nobody really knows, Like,
you know, did John not want to provide the capitol
to go after free agents? Was there a trade Dick
that Jerry wanted to make that John wouldn't approve because
of how much a contract costs.

All I know is this that they made three major
moves over the offseason. I thought they were decent moves
in Ref Schneider, Brendan Donovan, and Jose Ferrer. And for
the most part, all three of them have tanked. Donovan's tanked,
Ref Schneider's tanked, and Jose Ferrer has been okay, okay,
but he hasn't been elite.

I thought Jose Ferrer was gonna come in here and
be a real big time cog for that bullpen, and
that just hasn't happened yet. He's been way too inconsistent. Man,
going back to the start of the year, you know,
Ref Schneider, and you know I mentioned this. I think
to Hugh when you were gone, if Rob ref Schneider
were a Seahawk linebacker, he would have been cut in April.
Godn A real team looks at that deal and says,

we're paying him nothing five million, whatever the hell it
is there's got to be a better option out there
to hit left handed pitching.

Get rid of this guy. He's over the hill. They
can't get it done. Instead, they sit around around, they
sit around, and they lose games, waiting for Rob Refsneider
to start doing what they signed him to do, and
then when they make a move, it's too late.

I'm glad you brought that up waiting around, because look
at this offense. How do you fix an offense when
you just wait around to hope that it turns around.
Hope is not a strategy. Hope is not a plan.
When have you seen any adjustments made to this up, uh,
this offense other than shaking up the lineup and putting
Calid eight or what have you like, There's no it's

simply again just waiting for the three run home run.
And the three run home run used to come frequently
and it does not come at all anymore.

Well, I think that's part of the criticism that's valid
for Jerry, is that when you build a team that's
so reliant on the home run, it doesn't happen. You
got to have another option, and they have no other option.
So you know, again, I mean right now, on paper,
if the majority of this team comes back, you know,
Naylor's your first baseman, Cole Young's your second basement. Cole
Young's gonna be your short You're excuse me, Cold Emerson's
(14:01):
gonna be your short stop. Donovan maybe is your third baseman.
Who knows Juliowen center? God knows who and right, God
knows who. In left call Itt catcher, God knows who
in DH They're gonna need to go develop and get
some actual hitters, people that just don't rely on the
home run because their numbers on the home run ball
are way down and their offense is down because of it.

And they've gone from ninth to thirtieth and run scored,
they've gone from third to sixteenth and runs ten to
twenty eighth and ops at eleven to twenty sixth and
on base percentage. So this is the way this team
was built. That's where the criticism of Jerry comes into play.

Hey, when it works great, When it doesn't, you get
to blame because that's the risk that you took.

They're the basketball team that all they can do is
shoot threes, and then the opponents did adjust to them
and say, oh, you're not quick enough to beat me

two feet and guess what, You're not gonna get any
threes off.

Do those teams usually win titles? No, that are built
by the three? Honestly, do they win?

Florida last February, he had a lot of stuff ripped off,

including one hundred grand in cash, eighty thousand dollars, necklaces,

a group of his pals allegedly decided to take matters
into their own hands, got three men they thought were
responsible for robbing them, basically beat the crap out of him,

And if they're not true and the guy is exonerated

I think that there's been a lot of other guys

right now despite this, and I'm reading the statement from

me is that they say there is substantial incentives to
shift blame in an effort to lessen the sentences of

then I think the Seahawks you owe it to themselves
with the losses in the secondary that they just took,
you know, to take a look at the guy, and
you know, look, he may get exonerated and they may
have found something this weekend when they brought him into
camp for a tryout that they don't like. I mean

they've done that multiple times in the John Schneider era,
you know Pete Carroll as well. Were they bring in somebody,
give him a tryout, you know, it doesn't go very well.
They don't like his attitude whatever. When they're a meeting
with Jalen Carter before the draft, Yes, they didn't like
the way it came off.

They said the hell with it. So you know, who
knows what came out of this tryout? Is my point.
When they brought him in over the weekend. I think

apparently or allegedly went down here and have his day

How do you how do you spend the off season
to make sure, honestly that you don't show up here
eighty pounds overweight and getting yelled at by the coaching staff.
Speaker 6 (28:31):
Well, I just I try to make sure, you know,
like when I come back, I'm trying to make sure
I'm in the best shape as possible. You know, football shape,
you know that's a that's a different thing. But just
having your body you know prepared, you know to go
through that, you know, go through that to you know,
them tough battles, you know, trying to get back in
football shape and you know, things of that nature. So
really just trying to do everything in my power, you know,
(28:51):
to come back and being you know in decent you know,
decent shape, great shape.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
Is it is it important for you guys over the
off season Byron to get away from this vacation family time,
just quit football for a week, two weeks to month whatever.
Is that important? If so, how do you do that?
Speaker 6 (29:07):
It's very important, man, because you know, once you come back,
you know, you here, you here from months, you know,
and then the season it's a it's a very long season,
you know, eighteen games and plus two you know, don't
make the playoffs then go all the way, so that's
the season even longer. So really, man, in the off season,
I'll try to, you know, get away, you know, as
much as I can, but not too much. But you know,
(29:30):
taking food trips, you know, Enjordia faund you know, just
you know, just take time. I'll get away from ball,
you know, because at the end of the day, you know,
I'm more than just you know, a football player. So yeah, yeah,
really just try to try to hold in on them.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
Things well, you know, Byron Murphy is with us, And
it's interesting that you say that because obviously we know
you as a football player and that's why you're here. Right,
But there's more to you than that, right, What what
more is there? Tell us about Byron Murphy off the field?

doing if you weren't playing football?
Speaker 1 (30:05):
What would you be?
Speaker 6 (30:06):
Man? That's hard, Man, I don't know. That's a good question. Uh.
I really don't know, man, because I put my all
into football, so I can't even tell you.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
But are you a film junkie?
Speaker 6 (30:19):
I am?
Speaker 1 (30:19):
Really? Yes?
Speaker 6 (30:20):
Okay, yes, I like to you know, I like to
be ahead. I like to be prepared going into games.
I like to make sure, you know, I know everything
about my opponent from the you know, lift guard to
the center to the right guard, so whether it's run
or pass you off in the studium, all the way
to the t Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
Where you like that in college at Texas? Or did
you kind of really become a film junkie when you
got here?
Speaker 6 (30:40):
I really tried to. I really became a film junkie.
When I got to the league college, I watched film,
but I really didn't have to watch it like that.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Yeah, Well, one thing that we've noticed about you, Biron
Murphy is with us on the air. And first of all,
I first got to know you a little bit when
you were wrecking the Husky offensive line and that in
New Orleans. I know you weren't pleased with the way
that game went, but I certainly was. But you know what,
we gave it back. Yeah, we got your super Bowl right.
You go to a knee to absorb double teams, right,
(31:09):
which is kind of unusual, to say the least, but
you somehow hold your ground even on your knees more
so and even get maybe when you're on your feet.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
By the way, how do you do that? And where
did that come from?
Speaker 6 (31:23):
So when I was at ut you know when I
got there, when I robbed on campus my freshman year,
I had a d line coach named Bo Davis, name
of bow Dave, shut out bow man. Uh. He taught
me that technique. You know, he had me on the
sled every day. I just you know, working that technique,
just dropping that knee, reducing this. You know that that shoulder,
you know, just reducing my surface and everything and turning
(31:45):
that shoulder, not giving you know, an old line and
a half any any type of you know, surface area
onto where he can push on me. All all he
can do, you know, is push on my back so
pretty much or I'm anchoring into the ground. I'm a
strong guy. So you once you push it on me,
and then also to me knowing our old lineman gosta
clown to the linebacker, so soon as he finna, I
(32:06):
know he gotta come off at any time because the
linebacker coming down. So soon as he come off, boom,
I'm throwing the primary man off me and I'm getting
up making the place. It's that simple. But yeah, I
worked on it for years though it took me a
while to get it, but wow, now I just mastered it.
So now like when they come to playing doubles, I'm
not I'm not worried about him, Like I'm so used
to playing them and so used to like reacting to
(32:28):
him and seeing them from a mall away. So it's
it's really a piece of cake.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Well, it's unbelievable to watch, and I just hope that
you know that right that does not go unnoticed exactly effort.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
Did you see what he just did? The other thing
I've noticed about you two.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Byron Murphy with U Seahawk defensive tackle obviously, is that
you played.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
Seventy percent of the snaps a year ago.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
Defensive tackles don't do that, and you weren't doing that
at Texas. At Texas you're about fifty percent. Now you're
at seventy. What's the story there?
Speaker 1 (32:56):
Man?
Speaker 6 (32:56):
Uh, I'm a dog man. It is like I'm in
great shape. I'm a dog.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
I'm a guy.
Speaker 6 (33:04):
They can play, you know, all three downs. I can
play the run, I can pass right, so I can
do it all.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
Yeah, Well, and look guys that can do it all.
Byron get paid in the.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
L I asked you off the air if you just
saw the deal the Cowboys just gave Quinn Williams and
you said no. I told you three years, one hundred
and six million, one hundred and one million guaranteed. And guys,
you should see his face right now. It's lighting up
like a Christmas tree. Okay, I mean you're paying attention
to this stuff. How could you not win? Guys like him?
(33:35):
Jalen Jeffrey Simmons, for example, as well, all getting new
deals over the offseason.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
How much of that are you following?
Speaker 2 (33:42):
And what does that say to you when guys are
getting that kind of money at your position?
Speaker 6 (33:46):
Oh man, it says a lot.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
You know.
Speaker 6 (33:48):
I'm happy for them, guys. You know, they deserve it.
You know, they work for it, they ernth it and
oh man, no, but I'm just hocused on me right now.
I'm waiting, just waiting my time, not really trying to
you know, where about they just to take care of
our buses on the field and everything all this?
Speaker 2 (34:02):
Yeah, is that even have you guys even remotely started
any conversations yet? And you're okay with that for now? Okay, okay, Well,
this could be a big year for you. I mean
it's your three before your fourth year. The Seahawks obviously
just took care of Jackson, they're working on Spoon, and
they're in the same position now that you'll be in
a year from now.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
Do you feel like I don't.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
Want to put any pressure on you obviously, go back
and just continue doing what you've been doing this year,
and this could be a much different situation.
Speaker 1 (34:32):
For you financially in a year from now. Do you
kind of believe that in your heart.
Speaker 6 (34:34):
Oh yeah, I believe it in my heart. Man. Just
got to know, stay at it, stay committed to you know,
stay committed to the grind. Yeah, and can see you
to keep guys first, man, everything gonna follow?
Speaker 2 (34:44):
Or well, what's what's uh, what's going to be new
in your toolbox this year? I mean it's your three
he never stopped growing. We mentioned taking on double teams
on one knee, But what's what's next? On Byron Murphy's
goals list to do lists for twenty twenty six, you.
Speaker 6 (34:58):
Think, man, you know I want to get I want
to get double digit sex this year. You know, that's
that's that's that's the thing I'm striving for. And really,
you know, just trying to be the best version of myself.
That's that's really it, man, and win games and help
my team win.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
Does this team feel I mean, I know Mike's tried
to downplay the whole winning consecutive titles, but I'm not
sure what the verbiage that he's not saying, run it back?
What's this thing running forward? Running forward? Which I'm like,
all right, come on, we're trying to win back to
back titles. But do the players buy into that mentality,
the whole running forward thing and just that because that
less than the pressure in some ways on your games.
Speaker 6 (35:35):
Definitely, man, because you know, we know, like we know
we the hunting them, but you know, we see all
the stuff on social media, all the hype, you know
what's going on, but we're not worried about that. We
focus on us, and uh, we just focused on getting better, man,
And when the season come, that's that's when we would
display everything you know we've been we've been working on
and you know, we just gonna go out there and
get out there. You know, we're not We ain't worry
(35:56):
about nothing, nothing to outside noise.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
Man.
Speaker 6 (35:58):
We just focused on us right now.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Yeah, well, Byron with us two more, will let you go.
Julian Love was with us a few weeks ago. We
asked him about the Super Bowl. You guys are up
nineteen nothing, and we were starting to think in the
fourth quarter, Man, this might be the first shutout ever
in Super Bowl history.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
Do you guys ever talk about how close you came
to doing that? Was that something that you talked about
at all during that game when it kind of became
apparent that you guys had the upper hand.
Speaker 6 (36:25):
I feel like, not just the super but that's every game,
you know, we don't want a team to score at all. Yeah,
so that's that's how I go every game.
Speaker 5 (36:31):
Man.
Speaker 6 (36:32):
But well, definitely didn't want them to score at all.
But we weren't really worried about that either. But we
didn't want them to score. They end the scoring. But yeah,
you know, we just stuck with each other, stay to
the game plan, kept believing to one another, kept playing
for one another, and we took care of business.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
There's a lot of cameras out here anyway. Yeah, but
now there's a lot of cameras out here. It's a
hard knocks thing.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
You gotta kind of watch yourself a little bit, you know,
say the wrong thing or get caught picking your nose
or something or what.
Speaker 6 (36:58):
I don't talk a lot. I don't talk a lot
in no way. So yeah, this is really easy to me.
Speaker 5 (37:03):

I just you know, just be myself. I'm used to camera. So, yeah,
you're really worried about it.
