First numbers that came out of my brain were five innings,
two runs, five in runs. We cannot give Dan Wilson
any rope to keep a starter over five innings because

going to try to pull that guy as fast as
humanly possible. Okay, that's what Dan Wilson does.

confident in Brian Wu, and if he doesn't get it
done tonight, then we'll do it again for his next

Well, I think they're better without him. You know, I
know that Brady Russell is going to be the fullback,
so he's pretty much made the football team, despite the
fact that he thinks that Derek call is an egomaniac.
Now you can think Hard Knocks for that and the

the Hard Knock Show. But I like Robbie Hughtes right.
I like his attitude. I like the way he plays football.

It's the reason why the Hawks drafted him last year
out of Alabama. There's a reason why he had two
games last year. I think it was against Arizona and
Pittsburgh where he played twenty seven snaps on offense in

And now he's gone. So look, it's not a death
knell for the Hawks. Nobody's ever gonna sit around and say,

keep you up at night, but certainly some slight concerns.

can't be pulled back.

because of his neck and that's not something that you

how political the situation has become.

I do think that there are people trying to leverage
our league for their own personal gain. And in my
experience as a player, particularly in twenty twenty, what I
learned is you have tough conversations behind closed doors. You strategize,
and that's how you figure out how to, for lack
of a better defend yourselves and defend what this league
has built. That requires leadership and really on all levels,

from the players, from the union, from the league, you
name it, us who are covering the game. It requires
that leadership. So that's what I think we need to

Let's stay on that topic, but shift gears to a
WNBA legend storm legend. Supe Bird weighing in on the
WNBA controversy between Carrington and Cunningham on NBC Sports, including
how political the situation has become.
Speaker 7 (34:42):
I do think that there are people trying to leverage
our league for their own personal gain. And in my
experience as a player, particularly in twenty twenty, what I
learned is you have tough conversations behind closed doors. You strategize,
and that's how you figure out how to, for lack
of a better defend yourselves and defend what this league
has built. That requires leadership and really on all levels,
(35:03):
from the players, from the union, from the league, you
name it, us who are covering the game. It requires
that leadership. So that's what I think we need to
start to do.

I love Sue Byrd, I do take a little bit
of issue with what she said there. And it's not
just her who's saying this. A lot of other people
are dick. I don't think it's just people outside the league,
it seems. I think it's a lot of people inside
the league, including the commissioner, including players. Because Carrington was
the one after she got after she hammered Sophie Cunningham,

who went into the locker room and tweeted out white
privilege with the Fever logo, and so that spurred this
entire conversation.

Now there's this report that the league has.

Got to go behind closed doors and figure out what
their definition of a woman is, right, that's something they
got to be prepared for.

You have these two idiots. They're both dumbas, all right, they're.

Both they're both idiots, okay, but they got to figure
all that stuff out. The league is always been open
and honest and outward with their political affiliations. They've never
hid that stuff. So I don't think this is just
about outside voices and bad actors that are making this political.
And if you paid attention to the WNBA for five minutes,

you'd realize that.

They've probably been the most political of any of the sports,
no question.

I said yesterday, and I still believe that that all
attention is good attention. However, I do believe within the
New York Times article today, it was a well written
article today that said, Okay, you're getting to a point
like their crosses at some point is going to cross
a threshold where if these things keep happening and it
becomes more of a circus than it is a competition,

then that's a bad thing. We may be getting to
that point. We may not be getting that point, but
we certainly have more controversy now than we did six
months ago.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
Right, I mean, it just feels like the temperature just
needs to be turned away. That's fair. Don't you think
they needed a new commissioner? Right? Like?
Speaker 1 (36:58):
How great would it be to go and get somebody
who's run a league, who's run a major sports marketing agency,
TV network, whatever. It just kind of feels like, is
it Engelbert?
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Is that right? Kathy Engelberg, that.

She's just kind of lost control, that the players don't
even really like her, you know, I mean what is
she doing there? Like Adam Silver is well liked by
the NBA players, correct, very well liked. And I'm not
sure if Kathy Engelbert there's a few commissions back, not

they might need a new one. I'd actually be surprised
