We just randomly stumbled upon the Apple Cup conversation earlier
on the show today, and we put a poll out
asking people if they want to see the Apple Cup
continue after twenty twenty eight. Seventy percent said yes, But
I think most of them might have been Husky fans.
What would have to happen, What would, honestly, John, have
to happen for the Apple Cup to come to an

end after the next three games are played?

I think, and I don't know this, to be clear,
I haven't gotten this from anyone, either in Seattle or Pullman,
but I think it would be as simple as Washington
State saying we're done. I sensed that the Huskies want
to try to make it happen. It does present scheduling
issues with them, right because of the number of home

games they need. We've talked about that, but I have
the sense Washington would like it to continue. I don't
know that Washington State's administration, which is now new compared
to the administration that signed the deal. I don't know
that the Cougars are dead set on playing it indefinitely,
and hopefully they are, but it would be great if

it keeps going. But I would not put it at
one hundred percent for sure at this point.

Could the Cougars financially afford not to play Washington.

In What say you mean because the ticket sales for
the home game and because of the payout, they would
get to play the Huskies, right, I mean, that's that's
a big time game, and I would assume if they're
at a lesser conference, they would get revenue for playing
Washington that they wouldn't get for playing another team that's
like them.

Well, I mean, I don't know what the contract details are.
In a home and home series, oftentimes there's no exchange
of cash. Now maybe they've worked something else out, but
I don't know that it's you know, any kind of
by game for the Cougars when they go to Seattle.
I just think that it matters to why it should
matter to Washington State to be on the same field

as a Big ten team every year, and that Big
Ten team happens to be their rival, And to me,
it's not a lose lose situation at all for them.
They nobody expects them to win, so if they do win,
it's a huge benefit. And I just they need to
do it. It's good for the sport, it's good for
the state, and it's good for their brand. If you

don't play the Big ten, then you got no chance
of being viewed as a big time program. I don't think.

Yeah well again, I mean, it feels like there's more
interest in the game long term from you, Dub than
there is from Wazoo.

This new the ruling that came down from the judge
in Colorado a few weeks ago that said that if
there was a player that exhausted four years of eligibility
in the spring, and they wanted to come back and

play a fifth year. Uh for this upcoming academic calendar.
They could do it right. And now we're seeing Arizona. Dick,
you said, got a couple of guys come back back.
Indiana had a couple of guys come back tight Ti
angel Lele, I believe is back now for you, dub
Not the biggest names in the book, but some depth certainly,
maybe even some starters.

Has this been in a boon for anybody? This ruling
from this.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
Judge, Well, with the caveat that the ruling could get
overturned because the incident has appealed and the appeals court
has been known to overturn lower court rulings. So everything
is tentative. But Indiana's a huge winner. The defensive lineman
they just got back is gonna be one of the

best in the Big ten. I think he led the
Big ten tackles for loss last year. But it's a
narrow It's a narrow for football, especially because of the
timing and the fact rosters are set. There is just
a narrow scope of players that are positively impacted. It's
you know, you have to have played four years, but
not red shirted. It was only for four and four
(05:45):
kids not drafted and you know, didn't sign a practice
contract with the NFL, that kind of thing. And then
you can come back and and Arizona got their starting
tail back back, and Indiana's got a terrific defensive lineman back.
But it's it's very limited in scope in terms of
the number of teams that are being positively impacted.
Speaker 6 (06:07):
So, John, we've heard about a sixteen team proposal, We've
heard about a twenty fourteen proposal. What in the world
is this twenty team proposal I read about yesterday?
Speaker 5 (06:17):
Oh did it make you like vomit a little in
your mouth?
Speaker 6 (06:19):
Yespec when you use the term playing too, because I
love boy, I had nothing better than the playing game
in college basketball.
Speaker 8 (06:28):
Now we could have one at football.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
Yeah, yeah, they should just play the football one in
Dayton too, and now everything would be grand. So the
deal is right that the SEC wants sixteen, the Big
Ten wants twenty four. And now there's this idea that
was being floated by ESPN for twenty and what that
(06:54):
would mean is to be four playing games. So seed
thirteen would play, twenty fourteen would play, nineteen et cetera,
and then the winners with the four winners would advance
and join the main bracket of sixteen. I don't think
it went anywhere with the commissioners yesterday, which is a
good thing. But the reason it matters, and the reason

I wrote a little bit about it yesterday, is because
of what it says about ESPN and Fox being at
loggerheads over this thing, and the fact that they have
so much input over the Big ten in the SEC
and they're at this stalemate this see piece have been
at this stalemate for a year and a half and
it's going to continue. And a lot of it has
(07:38):
to do with Fox and ESPN having very different views
of what the playoffs should look like. They are competitor
their partner conferences or competitors, and there's no way to
get anything positive done for the playoff as long as
this continues.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
So what does Fox want? What does ESPN want?
Speaker 5 (07:57):
Fox wants twenty four and the Big Tennis pushing for
twenty four, ESPN wants sixteen max or stay at twelve,
and that's what the SEC wants. The reason foxes in
favor of twenty four is they didn't bid when the
CFP came up for bid a couple of years ago
for the contract cycle that starts this season. Fox didn't bid.
(08:19):
ESPN was the only won the bid. Fox realized they
made a mistake. Oh yeah, college football is popular. The
playoff is really popular. We should have bid. So what
are they doing now? They're trying to get it to
expand to twenty four because ESPN has the rights as
long as it's basically, as long as it's sixteen or fewer,
ESPN has the rights. If it gets up to twenty four,

then it goes to the open market and Fox can
bid on it. So what's really happening is nobody's got
the good of the sport or the good of the
playoff at the heart of their strategic decisions. It's all
based on self interest and that's not good for college football.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Yeah, well, John Wilner is good for college football.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Is with us on the air, and John, I'm looking
at This is the season, the time of the year
where everybody puts their Big ten quarterback rankings out, and
I swear to God, some of these schmuck old has
put somebody purposely too high or too low on the
list just for engagement to piss people off, and there's
one guy I won't even say who it is. Julian's
(09:21):
saying number one, which is fine, Dante Moore number two, fine,
Jaden Mayava USC number three, of the transfer, Malik Washington,
who I was very underwhelmed by when they played him
last year, really at number four, Josh Hoover, who's the
transfer from TCU and Indiana number five, Nico UCLA number six,
Drake Lindsay of Minnesota number seven, and there's Demon Williams
(09:43):
at number eight with Bryce Underwood right behind him. I mean,
where are you at with Demon Williams right now? Because
there seems to be kind of a boomer bust type
of approach with this guy. What do you think about
number now?
Speaker 3 (09:57):
Number one? By the way, at UW's wearing Warren Moon's number.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
Now, wow, Well, I think the reason for the boom
er bust is because that's kind of how he played.
He was terrific against teams that were at Washington's level
or below, and he really struggled against the best teams
in the league. The way I view it, though, is
that ceiling, you know? Okay, so he struggles against Oregon,

Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan, all right, Well, that's only four
out of the eighteen teams, right, So I think that,
you know, the floor for Williams in a quarterback ranking
in the Big twelve of Big ten should be six
ish right in that window, because we know he's proven
(10:43):
that he can be really good against the vast majority
of the conference. The way he gets into the top
tier is to play well against the top tier. So
I kind of agree with you that he's kind of
getting unfairly impugned relatives to some of these other guys
just because he struggled against the best teams in the country.
Speaker 6 (11:05):
John, give us the up to the minute chances on
the Protect College Sports Act being passed into law, and furthermore,
what are the chances we see Donald Trump signing it
live on college game day?
Speaker 5 (11:17):
As I read about this, and I would say that
that is absolutely not gonna happen, because there's very little
chance that they're gonna get it. They're gonna get it
even onto his desk, but before the season ends, because
the Senate is out for a month, then they're back
(11:38):
for three weeks, and then the House and Senator out
for another month because the midterms. So the timing even
if it. Even if it moved quickly, the timing is
such that the football season gonna be basically over. So
the chances I would put that bill right now, it's
like a two touchdown underdog on the road on a
short week, because even if it can get through the Senate,
(12:02):
the Congressional Black Caucuses against it, the afl CIOs against it,
and the naacps against it, and I don't know how
it's going to get enough support in the House to
get through.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
Right John, that's a hell of a transition, John, I
got one more for you before you go. John Wilner
with us and you mentioned about being an underdog there,
and Uh, Dick and I got into a fight on
the air. I'm still bleeding, by the way after the altercation.

He thinks if you dubbed Indiana played right now, that
Indiana would be a three point favorite over you dub
I think he's on credit. What do you think if
the Indiana game were tech right now? If the Indians
word I asked you, Jackson can back this up.

You asked what it would be when it were what
I think it would be if it was played at
that time.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
It's not what I asked you. I asked you if
the game were tonight, what would it be? And you said,
Indiana three. John, what do you think, all right, what
would the spread be on a U DUB Indiana game
right now.
Speaker 9 (12:59):
At Husky State.

Correct, Indiana by.

Okay, you want to jump in. No, he just don't.

Go back and check the tape, I think, John, the
argument started. I gave a range of potential what I
think could be a potential spread for that game. There
is a potential that the Huskies are ten and zero
going into that game. There's also potential that the Huskies
are like eight and two going in that game. I

also think there's a big range for Indiana. I think
Indiana could lose one, two, maybe even three games with
their schedule going into that game. So I said, there's
a range of between Huskies minus seven if the Dogs
are undefeated and Indiana has three losses, all the way
to the Huskies being a touchdown underdog.
Speaker 8 (13:50):
Of it's the other way around. That's what I said.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
I mean, if you're forecasting what it would be at
that time, not today, based on a reasonable assessment of
how each team will do against their schedules. Yeah, I
think that you were looking at probably Indiana by four
or five, because I think there's a really good chance
the Huskies will be eight and two or nine and

one going in that game, and they if they want
to get in the playoff, they got to be nine
and one going into those last two games. That to me,
that's that is a very it's a very clearly defined
path for the Huskies because of the way their schedule is.
They got to be nine and one or ten and
zero going into the Indiana game.

Well, how good is Indiana you think?
Speaker 5 (14:35):
I think they got better with these the kid they
got back from the from the five for five ruling.
Their defense should be really good. I you know, a
lot of people just assume Josh Hoover is gonna make
the same transformation that Fernando Mendoza did under Signetti. I'm
not convinced. He threw a lot of interceptions at TCU,

But I do think they're going to be really good.
I think that they will be you know, top ten,
top fifteen for most of all the season, for sure.

I mean, is Josh Hoover a better quarterback now than
Fernando Mendoza was when he left Cow.

Probably, yes, probably he is. But Mendoza, I mean, it
was just a miraculous transformation, and I don't know if
Hoover will do the same thing. Hoover is a very
If any of your listeners did not watch TCU last year,
Hoover is a very talented thrower of the ball, touch,
arm strength, that kind of you know, put it in

narrow windows. But boy, he makes a lot of mistakes.
And if Signeticant coached that piece out of him, he's
going to be really good. And so will they.

Yeah, well, I mean I think they're getting a better
product now than what they got with Mendoza when he
went to Indiana.

I agree with you, But man, the jump at Mendoza too.

Hoover probably doesn't need to take as big of a
jump as Mendoza did. But I mean, how can they
not decline a little bit at quarterback, right? I mean
they had the Heisman Trophy winner for carrying yeah, maybe
the most electric player in college football. I mean the
running had against Miami for that touchdown. Those one of
the best players I've ever seen a quarterback make.

And how can they not be the drive it right?
Speaker 5 (16:24):
Yeah, how can drive at Penn State? Was incredible?
Speaker 3 (16:27):
How can they not be? I'm slightly weaker at quarterback, John, slightly.

I agree with you, but I also think they are
very good on the offensive line, like they long. I
think they had eight or nine players drafted, but they
still have got a ton of guys who are going
to get picked next spring. He has done a remarkable
job of evaluation, the best job of evaluation I think
I have ever seen in college football.

compared to other teams out there, but somebody's got to
be the worst of that group. And I think I
just wonder if we're making too much of a just

you know, not even considering the idea Dick that the
secondary has some holes that maybe have not been filled
Julian Love Okada spoon job and would.

start in the secondary right now, with obviously Emon Warri
kind of being more of a you know, edge kind

He says Iggy or Clark would be the number five
guy for right now. Clark's proven nothing, Iggy's proven nothing.

Pritch It for the most part's proven nothing. I love love,
I love with her spoon, I like job, I like Okada.
But if we're gonna go through this thing with a
fine tooth comb, this is the time of the year
where you get better because you're not gonna get much better. Well,
you can't get better at the deadline. Schneider's proven that
three years in a row. But that's not gonna be intell.

But I mean, Mike McDonald's the coach and the coordinator.
So he turns sevens into nines and eights into ten.
So and so he can turn if Iggy's a six,

for one football game that you had to win. Which

of ways how to you know, turn them around. And
we had those league games that were a little bit

Uh So that was you know, challenging to say the least.
But you know, we needed to believe again that we
could win, you know, and I talked to him about, Okay,

but this was an inordinate, insane, right amount of injuries.

How much do you allow your staff, yourself to chalk
up that seven game losing streak to just a stupid
number of guys getting hurt?

Well, we internally, of course, we're talking about it and
the conversations we've been having with you know, Craig Wible
and our medical staff and what can we do different,
what can we learn and not just the medical guys
what they do in the gym and in the treatment room,
but how that message meshes wish with what we did

out on the field. You know, we searched long and
hard to try and figure out what went wrong with
all these injuries, and we couldn't find a definite trend
because each injury was just a little different. And yeah,
it punches you in the mouth because look, Peter de
Levega when he stepped on the field, I mean, the
fans are going nuts, and he almost scored, and you know,
(32:20):
it just would have been such a great, you know,
homecoming for the kid if he would have gone out
in the field and scored and then he goes down
after seven minutes. They just like the air lets out
of the balloon.

So no indications from the medical staff why this is happening,
because it does seem like there are specific types of injuries,
like muscle injuries that keep coming up.

Yeah, the muscle injuries are the ones that are biting
us in the butt this year. But it's you know,
Jamar's recovering from a hamstring injury and then he does
his calf and Paul Ariola, who's a little guy, super
good athlete, jumps, leaps in the air against Shortland, he
comes down funny does his calf. So a bigger guy

coming off an injury, a little fit guy just doing
something weird to calf polls. But they're totally different situations, Dick,
So we just can't figure it out.

Yeah, Well, Dela Vega came back from a knee injury
and then strained his squad after seven minutes on the field.

that three game week, maybe we're talking about some reinforcements,

But Terry On Arnold's story is obviously a big one.
Should the Seahawks sign him? He's a guy that's being
accused of some pretty nasty stuff right now?

He's been doing the Locked Onlines podcast for ten years,
which just means one thing.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
He's really old. Our friend, Matt, deary, Matt, how are

Sollas good softy? I will resemble that remark. I will
not be mad at you for that, but always always
good to check in with you guys.

We are we are dinosaurs. We are a dying breed
and I don't mind saying that. But let's talk about
Terry On. First of all, paint their picture for us
before we get into Seahawk's interest. Is he worth it?
Is he worth all the hubbub? Can he play? Blah
blah blah. For those that don't know the situation with
terry On Arnold, what is he being accused of doing
(38:16):
and why is he no longer a lion?
Speaker 9 (38:20):
Well, obviously, back in February, some of his friends thought,
along with terry On, it sounds like again allegedly that
they were robbed and that things were taken from a
home down in Florida. And so some of terry On's
friends decided for retribution and exacting some revenge, and they
(38:40):
plotted a kidnapping situation with these folks and then robbed them.
And then a bunch of people got arrested for putting
this together and certainly trying to harm some folks that
ended up not even being the people that stole the
stuff and terry On originally when police looked into it,
(39:00):
it was an investigation that found that he was not
a part of it. And then as the investigation continued
months later and many of the folks that had gone
to jail and gotten in trouble, I believe kind of
pointed the finger that Terry On was one of the
perpetrators and one of the folks that put this kidnapping
scheme together. So then hence he was arrested and the
Lions decided, even though that he's on bond right now
(39:22):
and that innocent until proven guilty, saw see that the
Lions has decided to cut bait. And originally Dan Campbell,
the Lions head coach, came forward and said, hey, we've
talked to Terry On, He's given us his side of
the story. We support him. But once he was arrested,
once the mugshot was out and all that in the bond,
the Lions decided that they did not want to be
(39:43):
in that business anymore, and so they released him.
Speaker 6 (39:46):
Yeah, we got two polar opposite polls going on here
because the Lions did exactly what you said, cut bait,
and yet there seems like there's a lot of interest.
So do you feel like the Lions cut bait a
little too soon on this guy?
Speaker 12 (40:02):
I don't.

It's you know, obviously doing the Lions pod and being
here in Detroit, you know that this franchise is one
that really wants good culture fits. They want they don't
want any distractions their owner is a female, is Sheila
hamp who has prided herself on having really no knuckleheads
in the locker room, and the Lions have had that
under Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell. They've had a good culture,
(40:26):
good guys, and they've done some winning and with Terry On. Look,
if arry On Owner was a top five PFF corner
and a dominant player, yeah, maybe guys will have that discussion.
But he hasn't been, and so I think the team
just felt like the best move here is to release him.
They got plenty of information from the league and they
(40:46):
decided to move on without it. Now, are they great
at cornerback two opposite of DJ Reid? No, they anticipated
Terry On being that guy, But I think they feel
like they'll survive, survive without him.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
Yeah, I guess that's the question.

Matt Matt Deary again locked on Lions with us talking
about Terry On Arnold, who the Hawks have brought in
for a couple of workouts. Just a former number one
draft pick out of Alabama played what ninety one percent
of the snaps. I think it was is his rookie year,
got banged up a little bit, missed half the season,
that number dropped to barely over three hundred.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
So I mean, how good is he? Right?
Speaker 4 (41:20):
Like, there's Seahawks fans that are a little bit ticked
off with the Hawks for even looking at the guy,
talking to the guy.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
Is he worth all the trouble? You think this guy?
Speaker 9 (41:30):
Well, that's the thing, softye is you just don't. It's
two years and to be quite honest, and again, if
you're a Pro Football Focus a PFF person, you look
up and you see that the grade that the total
grade for two seasons is below fifty. That's not good.
And for a first round pick. I think the Lions
felt like before any of the stuff came out, Calvin Shepard,
(41:52):
the defensive coordinator, said, this is a huge year for
Terry On. We like the kid. We think he's worked
hard year three as a corner in this league with experience,
we think he's gonna turn the corner. Obviously, things off
the field, you know, pushed him out, but they had
eye hopes for him this year. But if you look
at the body of work rookie year, a ton of
(42:14):
penalties and holds and just pass interferences. Last year, you
saw some glimpses then got hurt. They were hoping for
a big year for him, and now it's up to
one of these general managers, whether it's John out there
or whomever. It feels like they're gonna take a chance
on him, but to say, hey, is he a good player?
I wouldn't say he's had a good two years. I
think he could be. But again, what if he's found
(42:36):
guilty then you got that distraction from the locker room
and ask him the GM and the coach why even
brought him in. I think the Lions just wanted to
get rid of all of that.
Speaker 6 (42:45):
Matt What kind of prospect was he off the field
that when the Lions drafted him, and how has he
been to deal with when he was there?
Speaker 9 (42:54):
He was fine, to be quite honest, Dick, I think
that you know, you look up and you say the
Lions took a kid at twenty three. Again, that's late
first round that there were people that argue they should
have taken Cooper dejen and now you look up and
you say that they probably should have. They had on
their board as the top two ranked corners going into
the draft, Arnold number one, and actually had this Rakestraw
(43:15):
number two, who they took in the second round, and
he hasn't been good either, So it wasn't brad Olds'
best draft in twenty and Brad has some great drafts
and the Lions are a good team and Brad's done well,
but that twenty three draft or twenty four draft, excuse me,
was not Brad's best. Decent kid Really, this surprised a
(43:35):
lot of people when it came out that he did
allegedly had a hand in this kidnapping racket, because he's
got a lot of supporters in terms of people that
are close to him in the league. But no, I
if he's innocent and he's found out guilty and all that,
and of course his lawyers say he had nothing to
do with it, I don't think you're gonna have a
(43:55):
problem with him. The question is Kenny play.
Speaker 3 (43:58):
Yeah, Well, that's it.
Speaker 4 (43:59):
I mean, and again, nobody's doing anything until they figure
out what the hell's going on with the court system.
I mean, they may, you know, jump the gun a
little bit if their own investigation unit tells them that
the guy is innocent. And the Hawks have a pretty
damn big security team that can look into all this stuff.
I think that's the reason why Dicky's been out here
twice because they feel comfortable with his side of the story. Man,
So I mean, Matt, you tell us Matt Darry locked

on lines if honestly, if you were the Hawks, knowing
what you know about him, you know they lost Greek
willand to Philadelphia. Kobe Bryant, the safety, took off to
go play for Chicago. He's banged up for them, but
they did take some losses in their secondary.

They're trying to repeat his champions. Would you do it
with this kid?
Speaker 4 (44:38):
I mean, if you feel comfortable with the story he's
telling you about what happened off the field, with the
supposed kidnapping and live streaming this beating and watching it
from his house all that, would you do it if
you're the Hawks?
Speaker 3 (44:52):
Or would you do what the lines didn't? Just say nah,
this ain't for us.
Speaker 9 (44:56):
I mean, when I saw the list of teams that
he has spoken and visited, including the Colts, why don't
they have the culture and the gusto that the Seahawks have?
Or New Orleans the team that I did think, all right,
Seattle can take a chance. You just won the band
super Bowl. I mean, we were all on Softy's Twitter

and saw him dancing. So it's like, if there's a
team that's gonna get him a shot it, why not
the Seahawks. And again, if it turns out that he's
found guilty, if he's got to go back to jail,
Seattle washes their hands of it. I like the culture
you guys have. I love your coach and what you
have there and your longtime general manager. Maybe that's the

fit for him where he's coming into a super Bowl
winner and you don't mess around. So the fit. I
don't think it's bad in Seattle. I wouldn't be going
to Indy or New Orleans or anywhere else. Seattle would
be a nice fit for him.

The final thing for me on Arnold matt and that
is if there's six plus teams that are interested. I mean,
we have lots of times where guys get in trouble
and they're toxic.

Nobody comes within a million miles of them.

So do you think the reason that there's at least
six teams, including the Seahawks interested, is it because they
know something about his guilt or innocence, or because he
is a first round draft pick talent just two years
ago and they don't care whether he's guilty or innocent.
They're gonna be able to sign him and then cut
him if he ends up being guilty.
Speaker 9 (46:27):
No, I think the latter. I think that there's still
you know, he's still twenty four years of age. He
was a first round pick. The Lions had high expectations
for him in year three.
Speaker 5 (46:37):
It does take a while for a.
Speaker 9 (46:39):
Cornerback, a young one, to get acclimated in this league.
Lions were when they drafted Arnold justin the NFC Championship
game the year before, and he's played on a fifteen
win team, and I think teams are going to take
a shot. And also it's the first time offender for him,
and I know what he did was horrible and I'm
not excusing him. This is not a guy with a
long rap sheet from the past. And I think it
(47:00):
surprised the Lions that this really came to a head
in February, or not in February, but a couple of
months ago where he actually was arrested, so they washed
their hands of it. But I think teams are looking
at him because they're intrigued by the talent and he's
not gonna cost them anything. He's gonna be right. He's
gonna play for League Minimi this year.

So well, Matt Matt Deary locked on Lions and Matt
were sitting here at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma
two years ago. I was watching you guys at halftime
up twenty four to seven on San Francisco, and then
it all fell apart in the second half. Man, you're
still chasing that, right, You're still chasing that Super Bowl.
The amount of injuries you guys had last year, especially

on defense, was just it was borderline idiotic. How many
injuries you guys had on defense a year ago? How
close is this team to getting another shot at a
game like that a couple of years ago?

The roster, what's it look like?
Speaker 4 (47:51):
And are people still kind of dealing with the scars
of that game a little bit?

You know it's interesting. After that game, Safty Dan Campbell
said we may never get back here, and he's right.
They haven't been closed since now. They won fifteen games
the next year two years ago, and Cut bounced to
the second round. I look up and go, all right,
who are the teams to beat in NFC? Obviously, you guys,
the Rams are going to be a powerhouse. And I
(48:17):
know you're tired of hearing about the Rams out there,
but I think the Lions are right there. I think
Detroit has a lot of talent. We know what the
identity is with that offense and Jared Goff and playing
so many games indoors, they can really score, and they've
upgraded all offensive coordinator. Drew Petsing is here now after
last year's disaster with John Morton, and I like the defense.
(48:38):
I think they've added some good pieces and I think
if they stay healthy. But you said with all the injuries,
there's no way they can have this many injuries again
defensively that they've had the last two years. I think
this team should win the division. I really believe that
there's a lot of talent. It's just a matter of
putting it together and getting some injury luck, and they
haven't had it so far. Kade Mays they're starting center
(48:58):
signing free agencies now out eight to ten weeks. He
just broke his wrist, so that's a huge blow of
the offensive line. But if he's back by week five,

to happen for the Apple Cup to come to an

State saying we're done. I sensed that the Huskies want

games they need. We've talked about that, but I have
the sense Washington would like it to continue. I don't
know that Washington State's administration, which is now new compared
to the administration that signed the deal. I don't know
that the Cougars are dead set on playing it indefinitely,
and hopefully they are, but it would be great if

it keeps going. But I would not put it at
one hundred percent for sure at this point.

Could the Cougars financially afford not to play Washington.

In What say you mean because the ticket sales for
the home game and because of the payout, they would
get to play the Huskies, right, I mean, that's that's
a big time game, and I would assume if they're
at a lesser conference, they would get revenue for playing
Washington that they wouldn't get for playing another team that's
like them.

Well, I mean, I don't know what the contract details are.
In a home and home series, oftentimes there's no exchange
of cash. Now maybe they've worked something else out, but
I don't know that it's you know, any kind of
by game for the Cougars when they go to Seattle.
I just think that it matters to why it should
matter to Washington State to be on the same field

as a Big ten team every year, and that Big
Ten team happens to be their rival, And to me,
it's not a lose lose situation at all for them.
They nobody expects them to win, so if they do win,
it's a huge benefit. And I just they need to
do it. It's good for the sport, it's good for
the state, and it's good for their brand. If you

don't play the Big ten, then you got no chance
of being viewed as a big time program. I don't think.

This new the ruling that came down from the judge
in Colorado a few weeks ago that said that if
there was a player that exhausted four years of eligibility
in the spring, and they wanted to come back and

play a fifth year. Uh for this upcoming academic calendar.
They could do it right. And now we're seeing Arizona. Dick,
you said, got a couple of guys come back back.
Indiana had a couple of guys come back tight Ti
angel Lele, I believe is back now for you, dub
Not the biggest names in the book, but some depth certainly,
maybe even some starters.

Has this been in a boon for anybody? This ruling
from this.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
Judge, Well, with the caveat that the ruling could get
overturned because the incident has appealed and the appeals court
has been known to overturn lower court rulings. So everything
is tentative. But Indiana's a huge winner. The defensive lineman
they just got back is gonna be one of the
(05:22):
best in the Big ten. I think he led the
Big ten tackles for loss last year. But it's a
narrow It's a narrow for football, especially because of the
timing and the fact rosters are set. There is just
a narrow scope of players that are positively impacted. It's
you know, you have to have played four years, but
not red shirted. It was only for four and four
(05:45):
kids not drafted and you know, didn't sign a practice
contract with the NFL, that kind of thing. And then
you can come back and and Arizona got their starting
tail back back, and Indiana's got a terrific defensive lineman back.
But it's it's very limited in scope in terms of
the number of teams that are being positively impacted.
Speaker 6 (06:07):
So, John, we've heard about a sixteen team proposal, We've
heard about a twenty fourteen proposal. What in the world
is this twenty team proposal I read about yesterday?
Speaker 5 (06:17):
Oh did it make you like vomit a little in
your mouth?
Speaker 6 (06:19):
Yespec when you use the term playing too, because I
love boy, I had nothing better than the playing game
in college basketball.
Speaker 8 (06:28):
Now we could have one at football.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
Yeah, yeah, they should just play the football one in
Dayton too, and now everything would be grand. So the
deal is right that the SEC wants sixteen, the Big
Ten wants twenty four. And now there's this idea that
was being floated by ESPN for twenty and what that
(06:54):
would mean is to be four playing games. So seed
thirteen would play, twenty fourteen would play, nineteen et cetera,
and then the winners with the four winners would advance
and join the main bracket of sixteen. I don't think
it went anywhere with the commissioners yesterday, which is a
good thing. But the reason it matters, and the reason
(07:17):
I wrote a little bit about it yesterday, is because
of what it says about ESPN and Fox being at
loggerheads over this thing, and the fact that they have
so much input over the Big ten in the SEC
and they're at this stalemate this see piece have been
at this stalemate for a year and a half and
it's going to continue. And a lot of it has
(07:38):
to do with Fox and ESPN having very different views
of what the playoffs should look like. They are competitor
their partner conferences or competitors, and there's no way to
get anything positive done for the playoff as long as
this continues.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
So what does Fox want? What does ESPN want?
Speaker 5 (07:57):
Fox wants twenty four and the Big Tennis pushing for
twenty four, ESPN wants sixteen max or stay at twelve,
and that's what the SEC wants. The reason foxes in
favor of twenty four is they didn't bid when the
CFP came up for bid a couple of years ago
for the contract cycle that starts this season. Fox didn't bid.
(08:19):
ESPN was the only won the bid. Fox realized they
made a mistake. Oh yeah, college football is popular. The
playoff is really popular. We should have bid. So what
are they doing now? They're trying to get it to
expand to twenty four because ESPN has the rights as
long as it's basically, as long as it's sixteen or fewer,
ESPN has the rights. If it gets up to twenty four,
(08:42):
then it goes to the open market and Fox can
bid on it. So what's really happening is nobody's got
the good of the sport or the good of the
playoff at the heart of their strategic decisions. It's all
based on self interest and that's not good for college football.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Yeah, well, John Wilner is good for college football.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Is with us on the air, and John, I'm looking
at This is the season, the time of the year
where everybody puts their Big ten quarterback rankings out, and
I swear to God, some of these schmuck old has
put somebody purposely too high or too low on the
list just for engagement to piss people off, and there's
one guy I won't even say who it is. Julian's
(09:21):
saying number one, which is fine, Dante Moore number two, fine,
Jaden Mayava USC number three, of the transfer, Malik Washington,
who I was very underwhelmed by when they played him
last year, really at number four, Josh Hoover, who's the
transfer from TCU and Indiana number five, Nico UCLA number six,
Drake Lindsay of Minnesota number seven, and there's Demon Williams
(09:43):
at number eight with Bryce Underwood right behind him. I mean,
where are you at with Demon Williams right now? Because
there seems to be kind of a boomer bust type
of approach with this guy. What do you think about
number now?
Speaker 3 (09:57):
Number one? By the way, at UW's wearing Warren Moon's number.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
Now, wow, Well, I think the reason for the boom
er bust is because that's kind of how he played.
He was terrific against teams that were at Washington's level
or below, and he really struggled against the best teams
in the league. The way I view it, though, is
that ceiling, you know? Okay, so he struggles against Oregon,
(10:21):
Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan, all right, Well, that's only four
out of the eighteen teams, right, So I think that,
you know, the floor for Williams in a quarterback ranking
in the Big twelve of Big ten should be six
ish right in that window, because we know he's proven
(10:43):
that he can be really good against the vast majority
of the conference. The way he gets into the top
tier is to play well against the top tier. So
I kind of agree with you that he's kind of
getting unfairly impugned relatives to some of these other guys
just because he struggled against the best teams in the country.
Speaker 6 (11:05):
John, give us the up to the minute chances on
the Protect College Sports Act being passed into law, and furthermore,
what are the chances we see Donald Trump signing it
live on college game day?
Speaker 5 (11:17):
As I read about this, and I would say that
that is absolutely not gonna happen, because there's very little
chance that they're gonna get it. They're gonna get it
even onto his desk, but before the season ends, because
the Senate is out for a month, then they're back
(11:38):
for three weeks, and then the House and Senator out
for another month because the midterms. So the timing even
if it. Even if it moved quickly, the timing is
such that the football season gonna be basically over. So
the chances I would put that bill right now, it's
like a two touchdown underdog on the road on a
short week, because even if it can get through the Senate,
(12:02):
the Congressional Black Caucuses against it, the afl CIOs against it,
and the naacps against it, and I don't know how
it's going to get enough support in the House to
get through.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
Right John, that's a hell of a transition, John, I
got one more for you before you go. John Wilner
with us and you mentioned about being an underdog there,
and Uh, Dick and I got into a fight on
the air. I'm still bleeding, by the way after the altercation.

Indiana would be a three point favorite over you dub

Go back and check the tape, I think, John, the
argument started. I gave a range of potential what I
think could be a potential spread for that game. There
is a potential that the Huskies are ten and zero
going into that game. There's also potential that the Huskies
are like eight and two going in that game. I

also think there's a big range for Indiana. I think
Indiana could lose one, two, maybe even three games with
their schedule going into that game. So I said, there's
a range of between Huskies minus seven if the Dogs
are undefeated and Indiana has three losses, all the way
to the Huskies being a touchdown underdog.

Of it's the other way around. That's what I said.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
I mean, if you're forecasting what it would be at
that time, not today, based on a reasonable assessment of
how each team will do against their schedules. Yeah, I
think that you were looking at probably Indiana by four
or five, because I think there's a really good chance
the Huskies will be eight and two or nine and

one going in that game, and they if they want
to get in the playoff, they got to be nine
and one going into those last two games. That to me,
that's that is a very it's a very clearly defined
path for the Huskies because of the way their schedule is.
They got to be nine and one or ten and
zero going into the Indiana game.

Well, how good is Indiana you think?

I think they got better with these the kid they
got back from the from the five for five ruling.
Their defense should be really good. I you know, a
lot of people just assume Josh Hoover is gonna make
the same transformation that Fernando Mendoza did under Signetti. I'm
not convinced. He threw a lot of interceptions at TCU,

But I do think they're going to be really good.
I think that they will be you know, top ten,
top fifteen for most of all the season, for sure.

Hoover is a very talented thrower of the ball, touch,
arm strength, that kind of you know, put it in

narrow windows. But boy, he makes a lot of mistakes.
And if Signeticant coached that piece out of him, he's
going to be really good. And so will they.

Yeah, well, I mean I think they're getting a better
product now than what they got with Mendoza when he
went to Indiana.

I agree with you, But man, the jump at Mendoza too.

Hoover probably doesn't need to take as big of a
jump as Mendoza did. But I mean, how can they
not decline a little bit at quarterback, right? I mean
they had the Heisman Trophy winner for carrying yeah, maybe
the most electric player in college football. I mean the
running had against Miami for that touchdown. Those one of
the best players I've ever seen a quarterback make.

And how can they not be the drive it right?

Yeah, how can drive at Penn State? Was incredible?

How can they not be? I'm slightly weaker at quarterback, John, slightly.

very good on the offensive line, like they long. I
think they had eight or nine players drafted, but they
still have got a ton of guys who are going
to get picked next spring. He has done a remarkable
job of evaluation, the best job of evaluation I think
I have ever seen in college football.

we had those league games that were a little bit

Uh So that was you know, challenging to say the least.
But you know, we needed to believe again that we
could win, you know, and I talked to him about, Okay,

but this was an inordinate, insane, right amount of injuries.

How much do you allow your staff, yourself to chalk
up that seven game losing streak to just a stupid
number of guys getting hurt?

Well, we internally, of course, we're talking about it and
the conversations we've been having with you know, Craig Wible
and our medical staff and what can we do different,
what can we learn and not just the medical guys
what they do in the gym and in the treatment room,
but how that message meshes wish with what we did

out on the field. You know, we searched long and
hard to try and figure out what went wrong with
all these injuries, and we couldn't find a definite trend
because each injury was just a little different. And yeah,
it punches you in the mouth because look, Peter de
Levega when he stepped on the field, I mean, the
fans are going nuts, and he almost scored, and you know,

it just would have been such a great, you know,
homecoming for the kid if he would have gone out
in the field and scored and then he goes down
after seven minutes. They just like the air lets out
of the balloon.

So no indications from the medical staff why this is happening,
because it does seem like there are specific types of injuries,
like muscle injuries that keep coming up.

Yeah, the muscle injuries are the ones that are biting
us in the butt this year. But it's you know,
Jamar's recovering from a hamstring injury and then he does
his calf and Paul Ariola, who's a little guy, super
good athlete, jumps, leaps in the air against Shortland, he
comes down funny does his calf. So a bigger guy

coming off an injury, a little fit guy just doing
something weird to calf polls. But they're totally different situations, Dick,
So we just can't figure it out.

Yeah, Well, Dela Vega came back from a knee injury
and then strained his squad after seven minutes on the field.

that three game week, maybe we're talking about some reinforcements,

He's been doing the Locked Onlines podcast for ten years,
which just means one thing.

We are we are dinosaurs. We are a dying breed
and I don't mind saying that. But let's talk about
Terry On. First of all, paint their picture for us
before we get into Seahawk's interest. Is he worth it?
Is he worth all the hubbub? Can he play? Blah
blah blah. For those that don't know the situation with
terry On Arnold, what is he being accused of doing
(38:16):
and why is he no longer a lion?
Speaker 9 (38:20):
Well, obviously, back in February, some of his friends thought,
along with terry On, it sounds like again allegedly that
they were robbed and that things were taken from a
home down in Florida. And so some of terry On's
friends decided for retribution and exacting some revenge, and they
(38:40):
plotted a kidnapping situation with these folks and then robbed them.
And then a bunch of people got arrested for putting
this together and certainly trying to harm some folks that
ended up not even being the people that stole the
stuff and terry On originally when police looked into it,
(39:00):
it was an investigation that found that he was not
a part of it. And then as the investigation continued
months later and many of the folks that had gone
to jail and gotten in trouble, I believe kind of
pointed the finger that Terry On was one of the
perpetrators and one of the folks that put this kidnapping
scheme together. So then hence he was arrested and the
Lions decided, even though that he's on bond right now
(39:22):
and that innocent until proven guilty, saw see that the
Lions has decided to cut bait. And originally Dan Campbell,
the Lions head coach, came forward and said, hey, we've
talked to Terry On, He's given us his side of
the story. We support him. But once he was arrested,
once the mugshot was out and all that in the bond,
the Lions decided that they did not want to be
(39:43):
in that business anymore, and so they released him.

Yeah, we got two polar opposite polls going on here
because the Lions did exactly what you said, cut bait,
and yet there seems like there's a lot of interest.
So do you feel like the Lions cut bait a
little too soon on this guy?

I don't.

It's you know, obviously doing the Lions pod and being
here in Detroit, you know that this franchise is one
that really wants good culture fits. They want they don't
want any distractions their owner is a female, is Sheila
hamp who has prided herself on having really no knuckleheads
in the locker room, and the Lions have had that
under Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell. They've had a good culture,
(40:26):
good guys, and they've done some winning and with Terry On. Look,
if arry On Owner was a top five PFF corner
and a dominant player, yeah, maybe guys will have that discussion.
But he hasn't been, and so I think the team
just felt like the best move here is to release him.
They got plenty of information from the league and they

decided to move on without it. Now, are they great
at cornerback two opposite of DJ Reid? No, they anticipated
Terry On being that guy, But I think they feel
like they'll survive, survive without him.

Yeah, I guess that's the question.

Matt Matt Deary again locked on Lions with us talking
about Terry On Arnold, who the Hawks have brought in
for a couple of workouts. Just a former number one
draft pick out of Alabama played what ninety one percent
of the snaps. I think it was is his rookie year,
got banged up a little bit, missed half the season,
that number dropped to barely over three hundred.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
So I mean, how good is he? Right?
Speaker 4 (41:20):
Like, there's Seahawks fans that are a little bit ticked
off with the Hawks for even looking at the guy,
talking to the guy.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
Is he worth all the trouble? You think this guy?
Speaker 9 (41:30):
Well, that's the thing, softye is you just don't. It's
two years and to be quite honest, and again, if
you're a Pro Football Focus a PFF person, you look
up and you see that the grade that the total
grade for two seasons is below fifty. That's not good.
And for a first round pick. I think the Lions
felt like before any of the stuff came out, Calvin Shepard,
(41:52):
the defensive coordinator, said, this is a huge year for
Terry On. We like the kid. We think he's worked
hard year three as a corner in this league with experience,
we think he's gonna turn the corner. Obviously, things off
the field, you know, pushed him out, but they had
eye hopes for him this year. But if you look
at the body of work rookie year, a ton of
(42:14):
penalties and holds and just pass interferences. Last year, you
saw some glimpses then got hurt. They were hoping for
a big year for him, and now it's up to
one of these general managers, whether it's John out there
or whomever. It feels like they're gonna take a chance
on him, but to say, hey, is he a good player?
I wouldn't say he's had a good two years. I
think he could be. But again, what if he's found
(42:36):
guilty then you got that distraction from the locker room
and ask him the GM and the coach why even
brought him in. I think the Lions just wanted to
get rid of all of that.

Matt What kind of prospect was he off the field
that when the Lions drafted him, and how has he
been to deal with when he was there?
Speaker 9 (42:54):
He was fine, to be quite honest, Dick, I think
that you know, you look up and you say the
Lions took a kid at twenty three. Again, that's late
first round that there were people that argue they should
have taken Cooper dejen and now you look up and
you say that they probably should have. They had on
their board as the top two ranked corners going into
the draft, Arnold number one, and actually had this Rakestraw

number two, who they took in the second round, and
he hasn't been good either, So it wasn't brad Olds'
best draft in twenty and Brad has some great drafts
and the Lions are a good team and Brad's done well,
but that twenty three draft or twenty four draft, excuse me,
was not Brad's best. Decent kid Really, this surprised a

lot of people when it came out that he did
allegedly had a hand in this kidnapping racket, because he's
got a lot of supporters in terms of people that
are close to him in the league. But no, I
if he's innocent and he's found out guilty and all that,
and of course his lawyers say he had nothing to
do with it, I don't think you're gonna have a

problem with him. The question is Kenny play.

Yeah, Well, that's it.

I mean, and again, nobody's doing anything until they figure
out what the hell's going on with the court system.
I mean, they may, you know, jump the gun a
little bit if their own investigation unit tells them that
the guy is innocent. And the Hawks have a pretty
damn big security team that can look into all this stuff.
I think that's the reason why Dicky's been out here
twice because they feel comfortable with his side of the story. Man,
So I mean, Matt, you tell us Matt Darry locked

on lines if honestly, if you were the Hawks, knowing
what you know about him, you know they lost Greek
willand to Philadelphia. Kobe Bryant, the safety, took off to
go play for Chicago. He's banged up for them, but
they did take some losses in their secondary.

They're trying to repeat his champions. Would you do it
with this kid?

I mean, if you feel comfortable with the story he's
telling you about what happened off the field, with the
supposed kidnapping and live streaming this beating and watching it
from his house all that, would you do it if
you're the Hawks?

Or would you do what the lines didn't? Just say nah,

I mean, when I saw the list of teams that
he has spoken and visited, including the Colts, why don't
they have the culture and the gusto that the Seahawks have?
Or New Orleans the team that I did think, all right,
Seattle can take a chance. You just won the band

and saw him dancing. So it's like, if there's a
team that's gonna get him a shot it, why not
the Seahawks. And again, if it turns out that he's
found guilty, if he's got to go back to jail,
Seattle washes their hands of it. I like the culture

have there and your longtime general manager. Maybe that's the

fit for him where he's coming into a super Bowl
winner and you don't mess around. So the fit. I
don't think it's bad in Seattle. I wouldn't be going
to Indy or New Orleans or anywhere else. Seattle would
be a nice fit for him.

we have lots of times where guys get in trouble
and they're toxic.

So do you think the reason that there's at least
six teams, including the Seahawks interested, is it because they
know something about his guilt or innocence, or because he
is a first round draft pick talent just two years
ago and they don't care whether he's guilty or innocent.
They're gonna be able to sign him and then cut
him if he ends up being guilty.

No, I think the latter. I think that there's still
you know, he's still twenty four years of age. He
was a first round pick. The Lions had high expectations
for him in year three.
Speaker 5 (46:37):
It does take a while for a.
Speaker 9 (46:39):
Cornerback, a young one, to get acclimated in this league.
Lions were when they drafted Arnold justin the NFC Championship
game the year before, and he's played on a fifteen
win team, and I think teams are going to take
a shot. And also it's the first time offender for him,
and I know what he did was horrible and I'm
not excusing him. This is not a guy with a
long rap sheet from the past. And I think it
(47:00):
surprised the Lions that this really came to a head
in February, or not in February, but a couple of
months ago where he actually was arrested, so they washed
their hands of it. But I think teams are looking
at him because they're intrigued by the talent and he's
not gonna cost them anything. He's gonna be right. He's
gonna play for League Minimi this year.
Speaker 4 (47:17):
So well, Matt Matt Deary locked on Lions and Matt
were sitting here at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma
two years ago. I was watching you guys at halftime
up twenty four to seven on San Francisco, and then
it all fell apart in the second half. Man, you're
still chasing that, right, You're still chasing that Super Bowl.
The amount of injuries you guys had last year, especially
(47:37):
on defense, was just it was borderline idiotic. How many
injuries you guys had on defense a year ago? How
close is this team to getting another shot at a
game like that a couple of years ago?

The roster, what's it look like?
Speaker 4 (47:51):
And are people still kind of dealing with the scars
of that game a little bit?

You know it's interesting. After that game, Safty Dan Campbell
said we may never get back here, and he's right.
They haven't been closed since now. They won fifteen games
the next year two years ago, and Cut bounced to
the second round. I look up and go, all right,
who are the teams to beat in NFC? Obviously, you guys,
the Rams are going to be a powerhouse. And I
(48:17):
know you're tired of hearing about the Rams out there,
but I think the Lions are right there. I think
Detroit has a lot of talent. We know what the
identity is with that offense and Jared Goff and playing
so many games indoors, they can really score, and they've
upgraded all offensive coordinator. Drew Petsing is here now after
last year's disaster with John Morton, and I like the defense.
(48:38):
I think they've added some good pieces and I think
if they stay healthy. But you said with all the injuries,
there's no way they can have this many injuries again
defensively that they've had the last two years. I think
this team should win the division. I really believe that
there's a lot of talent. It's just a matter of
putting it together and getting some injury luck, and they
haven't had it so far. Kade Mays they're starting center
(48:58):
signing free agencies now out eight to ten weeks. He
just broke his wrist, so that's a huge blow of
the offensive line. But if he's back by week five,
I think they're gonna be okay. And they also have
the easiest scheduling football, so that helps as well.
Speaker 6 (49:11):
I can hear all the fantasy players in Seattle say,
please ask about Jamiir Gibbs and if I should draft
him number one or if we should still have Bijon
being number one in the fantasy leagues.
Speaker 9 (49:23):
Yeah, I mean, Gibbs is pretty damn good, and I
know he got a little bit more money than Bijon.
They're really gonna feature Jamiro a lot. I think the
one thing that you'll worry about when drafting Jamira is
while the Lions also have.
Speaker 12 (49:35):
Jameson Williams, I'm Dross Saint Brown, Sam Laporta a lot
of weapons, but he's not gonna be sharing carries anymore
with David Montgomery.
Speaker 5 (49:43):
He is going to be the.
Speaker 12 (49:44):
Bellcow and be the main guy. If the Jamir Gifts
should have a huge year, I'm.

Glad that contract stuff is over and he is signed

last year, and you know, following all your videos on
Twitter and and I know I remember your text to
me after the Niners lost because you hate the Niners.
So yeah, I mean, why not the Lions? And they
have a really good young core guys like Pinney Sewell
and Heate and Hutchins, and these young guys are gonna

be good for a little while. But like you said,
they've been now three years of being pretty good. Time
to take that next step. Would be nice to play
you guys in the NFC Championship game.

Sure that has not yet shown that he can't play
in the league. That's right, and you get him for nothing.
And if he's guilty, he's gone. Well, so like, what
is the downside?

If he's guilty, you're probably not even signing it, right,
You're probably waiting to see what happens with this whole
thing first. I mean, I'm not saying there's going to
be a trial that will happen between now in September,
but you'll get all the evidence you need. And if
you think he's going to get exonerated, then sign the
guy and he's gonna get a bare bones contract likely.

More teams though that feel like the Hawks due Dick,
that this guy's innocent, there may be a little bit
of a bidding war for his services, right, And I
think again, if you're him, the question is where does
he want to play? It is you go to the
team with the most money, which is probably the case,
or does he want to go play for a Mike
McDonald defense, sign a short term contract, earn his reputation back,

turn into a star in Seattle, and then go kick
free agencies ass and make one hundred million dollars in
twenty twenty eight.

If he's smart, he signs with the team team like
Seattle for nothing and has a proven year and then goes.
