three hours later, I was yelling again. But it's it's

just becoming kind of a disgrace. And I'm really glad
that cal Rowley spoke last night after the game, But
as I said yesterday on social media, it should not
be a novelty to hear him talk. It should not
be a novel, to hear your captain, to hear a
leader address the media, and wait this long to do it.
We should be hearing from him every single night. We

should be hearing from Josh Naylor and Julio Rodriguez and
Randy A. Rose Arena, even in Spanish, every single freaking night,
the leaders on this baseball team. As I said the
other day, it just feels like we haven't heard from
those guys in forever. And then Cal Rowley all of
a sudden, pop out of the blue, addresses the media
last night, says all the right things, says I've been terrible,
blah blah blah.

But they're just so devoid of any direction or any
leadership and perceptions reality, right, And like I said to
you the other day, when the manager's going out there
and you know, quoting from the same chapter of the
cliche book every single night, it just kind of becomes
a little bit monotonous, and it becomes a little bit
borderline ridiculous. You know, the owner is such an unbelievable

coward sometimes when it comes to stuff like this. I
would love to hear him addressed the media. I'd love
to hear him address the fan base. I'm not saying
he's got to go bananas dick on the baseball team
every single freaking night and every single week, but hiding
in the ivory tower and not speaking for the organization,
not being the leader that this organization needs. It's just

it's absolutely disgusting, and it makes you realize and remember
that this team eventually, guys mate stumble into a World Series.
They may even stumble into a championship one day. Like
we've talked about Tom Benson, right, who was that umbrella
twirling weirdo of the Saints didn't do a damn thing,
ended up looking into Drew Brees and won a title.

for the franchise and take blame when things are going poorly,

in the leadership of this baseball team, like I can stomach.

compare and contrast. I mean, we may not like some
of the stuff that the Storm leadership say, but they're there,

the Seahawks don't even need it, because the Hawks are
the gold standard, for God's sakes of the NFL. But

just compare and contrast the adversity happening with that basketball
team that you cover every single damn day, and then
compare it with the lack of leadership during these trying
times that the M's are going through. Players are going
to struggle, players are gonna stink, players are going to
have down years, players are going to take big steps back.

But what I am more grossed out about here, and
I don't think there's any other way, Dick that I
can say it is just the lack of overall absolute leadership.

somebody else to step up. Meantime, we're riding from the
absolute inside out, and nobody says a damn thing about anything.

but like I said yesterday, it should not be a

the general manager and one of the coaches, I said,

interest in him.

that was updated to only be the one time. But
there's obvious interest by the Hawks in Terry and Arnold.
What do you make of the league wide interest in
him and what his next move would be?

Man, I'm surprised that the Seahawks are flirting with the
possibility of signing a guy who brings pr baggage and
frankly hasn't done enough in two years in the NFL
to justify the he it goes along with having him,
whatever local criticism there would be. He's facing very serious charges.

Last night's hard knock did not make that point with
the kind of clarity it.

Could have and should have.

They seem to think he'll be available to play in
the preseason.

I think it's a.

Coin flip when you're talking about charges that include a
potential sentence of life in prison.

How can you be.

Sure the NFL won't immediately put him on the Commissioner
Exempt list? And is that the kind of unforced error
you want to be conducting just as anode Cosla and
family are taking over the team, what is the upside
in signing a guy who hasn't done enough in his
first two NFL seasons to justify dealing with all of

that extra stuff? And if he was that good, the
team that's had him in the building the last few
years wouldn't to cut him. They cut him and owed
him full pay for the next two seasons, and that
still wasn't enough to get them to keep him around.
So I'm surprised the teams are interested in him. I
just don't think it's worth it. And I apologize in

advance for anyone who would say he's innocent until proven guilty.

I did all that.

The reality is the allegations alone are enough to create
a problem, and it could be enough to get the
NFL to put him on the Commissioner Exemplest right away,
and then what was it all for? What's the pr
drama for? And there are plenty of other guys out
there who don't bring that kind of baggage.
Speaker 7 (10:26):
And that's the way it goes in sports.
Speaker 6 (10:27):
If you're not good enough to overcome the off field issues,
you're not going to get a shot to be on
the field.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
What is your understanding of the timing of his legal
proceedings and would he be able to play in the
preseason if he's signed. That seemed to be something that
the Seahawks believed would happen yesterday when we watched Hard Knocks.
Speaker 6 (10:46):
The NFL is an inhabit of telling teams whether or
not they'll put a guy on paid lead. They just
won't do it, so you just have to find out.
You have to sign him and see what happens. And
as it relates to the criminal case, look, he's not
going to get a full and complete and clean bill
of health unless they would just drop the charges. And
when you look at the broader case, this started as
something that was clearly an effort to recover property that

was stolen from a house that Terry on Arnold was renting.
Speaker 7 (11:15):
And there are.
Speaker 6 (11:16):
Multiple people who have pleaded guilty for their role in
this plot to go confront the people who they believed
stole the property, and the prosecutors did as they often
do in a case like this, they worked their way up.
Speaker 7 (11:28):
You get a couple of guilty please those people.
Speaker 6 (11:29):
Flipped, and you work your way up to the person
who was the mastermind. And it sure looked like And
I remember when the issue first arose. I thought, man,
this just has a dark cloud. This has the potential
to be a situation where Terry on Arnold thought he
could remove himself from it actively and that that would
be enough to insulate him from any accusations. And they
(11:52):
eventually concluded that they have enough to pursue criminal charges. Now,
whether you have proof beyond a reasonable doubt, if it
doesn't fit, you must quit. He hired a lawyer who
has a track record of success. They've already gotten him
out of jail on bail pending the full blown trial.
The prosecutors wanted to keep him behind bars and definitely,
but these things don't result quickly, especially when you have

that many different defendants involved. So I don't see it
being done by the end of football season. And I
just think the risk that if you sign him and
he lands on paid leave, the risk out weighs.

The reward of having a guy on the team.

And I'm surprised the Seahawks would do all this given

Well, it's just like when a team comes out for
the first day of practice and there's a quarterback competition.
The guy that gets the first rep is perceived is
having a little bit of a lead. So the two
quarterback to two candidates, Deshaun Watson Shudur Sanders, they are
going to start one preseason game each. The fact that
Watson's going first should be interpreted is something that has meaning.
Unless they just literally flip a coin, it has meanings.

And I think what they're.

Trying to do.

I think they're trying to use Watson to light a
fire under Shadur Sanders, to get him to fully commit
to doing everything he needs to do to become the
player he can be. I think he's a guy who'd
likes to show up and play on game day and
is yet to understand the importance of doing all the
other stuff at practice, at offseason workouts, everything they've been trying,

I think to get him to do more and unlock
a higher level performance.

And I'd be.

Surprised if he doesn't win the starting job. And there's
gonna be a lot of Browns fans who wash their
hands with Deshaun Watson a long time ago. We're gonna
be wondering what the hell's going on here? If Watson
ends up being the starter.

Are we still on track to here one way or
the other by the end of the week On Aaron Donald.
Speaker 6 (14:00):
Well, at last I heard yes, and the target has
been moving just a little bit, because look, he's setting
this up as when he makes the decision to come back,
he's coming back. He's not coming back on a trial
basis and then deciding after a couple of weeks of
training camp whether or not he's going to stick around.
He's taking me all in up or down, full go decision,
(14:23):
and they need to have a few weeks to get
him ready for week one. He was a hold out
in twenty seventeen to twenty eighteen, missed all the training
camp all of the preseason. They took a couple of
weeks to get him ramped up before they were ready
to play him, particularly in twenty seventeen, and I think
he showed up the day before the start of the
regular season.
Speaker 7 (14:39):
So they need a few weeks. Now.
Speaker 6 (14:41):
They have as of tomorrow, four weeks before their first game,
and that would be more than enough time even if
he kicks the can into next week. So right now
I think he's kicked the can once at least from
the early part of this week to the end of
the week and Friday, I believe is the target. But
on Friday he could decide to kick the can into

next week. And at some point you gotta wonder, is
he just going to keep kicking a can to the
point where he doesn't do it. I can't imagine I'll
come back and playing after everything he's going through, But
he wants to make a firm and clear decision, and
he wants to know he'll come back and be the
Aaron Donald he used to be.

Mike, our friend Paul Allen this season like that in Minnesota,
our mutual buddy is going to get to watch Kyler
Murray start the first game of the year, apparently for Minnesota.
What's your take on Kyler Murray beating out JJ McCarthy
for the QB one job in Minnesota, And look, it's not.

Just for the first game of the year.

Kevin O'Connell told us that the league meetings in March,
once they make a decision, that's the guy for the
full season. The two times twenty twenty two and twenty
twenty four where they had the same quarterback start every game,
they made it to the playoffs. The two years where
it was a revolving door, they didn't make it to
the playoffs.

They're not going to have a short leash on Kyler Murray.
When they signed him, it was with.

The understanding he would be the starter.

because we don't know what the coaching staff had cooked
up to make it look harder or look easier because
you got a combination of the same team calling the

a get in play, Kyler Murray may look like he
failed because they called an offense it was going right
into the teeth of the coverage and you're going to

have to come up with a potential cure for it.
So this seems like something that has been coming since
the moment they signed him, and now they get him
ready for week one. They got about a month and
the one thing that isn't part of the competition is
what he can do with the ball when he pulls
it down and runs, and how that could open up
the offense. The Vikings haven't had a guy like that.
It's Dante Culpepper if you remember him two thousand to

two thousand and five, he was the starter. So it
adds an element and it could make it easier to
get guys open if defenses are suddenly obsessed with where
Kyler Murray is in relation to whether or not he's
going to take off and run.

Mike, you mentioned the Players Association should focus its push
on grass fields here in Seattle. First talk more about that.

Well, that's something that I said a few weeks back
when the World Cup final happened and it looked like
the NFLPA had launched a coordinated effort to pressure the
league generally to make the switch to all grass, high
quality fields, and I thought it would make more sense
to go one team at a time. Let's start with
the new owner of the Seahawks. That's the stadium that
had grass for the World Cup. And when the odekoslaf

made a comment on social media over the weekend that
he's going to defer to the team that won the
Super Bowl, well, I think the only people in these
organizations that are saying we got to have artificial turfet
the owners because of what it costs.

Give management, if you're going to give the coaches, if
you're going to give the players input in this, especially
the players they're the ones who won the Super Bowl.

he is the captain of this baseball team. He needs

that in their organization. So I was glad to hear that.
My concern about cal and I asked you this off
the air. I think yesterday he's struggling. Now if he
ends the year the way he's playing now, we go
into April next year and he still struggles in the

first month of the year. These guys all eighty five
million dollars? What are we doing with cal Raley? Are
they gonna set him? Are they gonna bench cal Rawley
next year? Because he deserves, don't you think the benefit
to finish the standout and he deserves likely to be
your number one catcher going in the next year, but
that rope doesn't last forever.

What do you do? What are we gonna do if
cal Rawley's done? Guys?

I think that depends on what type of moves they
make in the offseason. Who is the other catcher right
right now? We thought Mitch Garver when he was brought in,
might be a decent replacement, a decent second guy for
cal Rawley, and he was an absolute disaster both behind
the plate and at the end at the plate. And
are they going to bring another Mitch Garver esque guy

in where they're actually paying him reasonable amount of money
to catch fifty games sixty games, and so the one
hundred and thirty load isn't on cal like it was
last season and the season before.

You remember, Steve Phillips was on with us. He likes
this Boston Smith guy that they got in the Luis
Castillo deal.

Maybe he's the guy.

He's twenty three years old. He'll be twenty four in November,
so you know, maybe he starts the roster, starts the
year on the roster, it as your number two guy.
Maybe cal Rawley slides over to maybe more a DH role.
It's hard to imagine him being a DH because the

to be good based on the pedigree of their past,
looking at the portal acquisitions and thinking that that should work.
But you don't know. Let's just say this, no one

knows anything and start from there. And it's not a
front to admit that you're selling stories and people and
programs right now in August without any real knowledge for
sure about what's what. Even an Ohio State team that
I'm sure they're loaded, but you're going to have to

And now, even more than ever in the poral era,
when so many players are leaving and going and coming
and going, the only poll that we should be concerned

I mean, again, if you can guarantee me that there's
no advantage gain by being in the poll in week
one or week zero, then fine, But I'm not sure

When you have a four team playoff, right, it means

recruiting has helped out when teams are in the top

have the polls, then maybe a bump up the Cfpeter
week five.

thought the play got called right, thankfully Sophie's Okay, was
it egregious? Absolutely? When you have a chance to watch

The NFL is an inhabit of telling teams whether or
not they'll put a guy on paid lead. They just
won't do it, so you just have to find out.
You have to sign him and see what happens. And
as it relates to the criminal case, look, he's not
going to get a full and complete and clean bill
of health unless they would just drop the charges. And
when you look at the broader case, this started as
something that was clearly an effort to recover property that

was stolen from a house that Terry on Arnold was renting.

Multiple people who have pleaded guilty for their role in
this plot to go confront the people who they believed
stole the property, and the prosecutors did as they often
do in a case like this, they worked their way up.

Flipped, and you work your way up to the person
who was the mastermind. And it sure looked like And
I remember when the issue first arose. I thought, man,
this just has a dark cloud. This has the potential
to be a situation where Terry on Arnold thought he
could remove himself from it actively and that that would
be enough to insulate him from any accusations. And they

eventually concluded that they have enough to pursue criminal charges. Now,
whether you have proof beyond a reasonable doubt, if it
doesn't fit, you must quit. He hired a lawyer who
has a track record of success. They've already gotten him
out of jail on bail pending the full blown trial.
The prosecutors wanted to keep him behind bars and definitely,
but these things don't result quickly, especially when you have

that many different defendants involved. So I don't see it
being done by the end of football season. And I
just think the risk that if you sign him and
he lands on paid leave, the risk out weighs.

Watson's going first should be interpreted is something that has meaning.

So this seems like something that has been coming since

ready for week one. They got about a month and
the one thing that isn't part of the competition is
what he can do with the ball when he pulls
it down and runs, and how that could open up

adds an element and it could make it easier to

I think that depends on what type of moves they

are they going to bring another Mitch Garver esque guy

When you have a four team playoff, right, it means
a lot, right, but it's not as much with the twelve,
certainly not as much of the sixteen or a twenty.

It's not just about the CFP.

Sometimes coaches get bonuses based on where they're Rankeding to
recruiting has helped out when teams are in the top
twenty five versus not ranked, and things like that. So
I'd like to see it go away entirely and just
go with the CFP. Hell, you know what, maybe you
go if you want to, if you're so desperate to
have the polls, then maybe a bump up the Cfpeter
week five.

Right, you know, you think his premise would be right
with the transfer portal. But twenty twenty two there was
only ten of twenty five preseason teams that finished round right.

Last year there was twelve of twenty five.

So it was actually more last year during the portal
era than it was in twenty twenty two, really before
this craziness started.

We played the clip yesterday from her defending the opposing
player in a postgame press conference, came back to the
podium yesterday with some impassion comments about outside people trying
to divide her team.
Speaker 10 (32:56):
For those who have anything to say about the play
in the last game, I didn't see the play in
real time. I went straight to a press conference. I
thought the play got called right, thankfully Sophie's Okay, was
it egregious? Absolutely? When you have a chance to watch
that over and over and over on replay, you can
see that I didn't have that any of the time.
I take personally any suggestions that I don't one hundred

percent always have my players back. I ride with them
ten toes down all.
Speaker 5 (33:23):
The time, all the time.

They know that it's a shame that we can't have
an opportunity to talk about what great basketball they're playing
because they have all playing. The hate, the fear, monitoring,
the divisiveness, the stuff that's trying to hijack our league

Love will win, grace will win, humility will win, and

First of all, I agree with you, but let's just
live in world for a second where we believe her
that you didn't see the play instead of that that
we just heard.

You know what, I made a mistake yesterday. I didn't
see the play. I screwed up. I didn't portray what
I wanted to portray. I understand why fans are mad.
I get it.

Let me and that game fired up. Let me be clear,

And then she goes into Summer of Love and whatever
the hell's going on, hippies and flowers in their ears
and blah blah blah.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
I mean, it's just I don know, Dick.

I've never been around a league that takes less responsibility
for their mistakes than what's going on in the WNBA
right now. It's always somebody else's fault. From Carrington pointing
fingers after her white privileged tweet, to what Stephanie White
just said there, to the gals on ESPN, even to
guys like Ryan Clark talking about it, it's this is
all somebody else's fault. It's not our fault for all

the stuff that we're doing. It's somebody else's fault. It's
bad actors. It's outside the league. And do they think
we're dumb? Honestly, do they think that we are that
stupid where we don't see this stuff going on inside
the WNBA? And then they're blaming other people for what
they're doing and what they're saying.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
It's astonishing to me, Dick.
Speaker 4 (36:16):
Two point six million viewers right watch that basketball game.
Just for context, the average Laker Lebron contest on NBA
last year and the national TV was one point five.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
There's no doubt there's ratings, There's no doubt.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
Watching and watching only just watching for this.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
People are watching, but there's a large majority of those
people that are watching because it's the WWE.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Honestly, it's turning into a clown show.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
And that's brings it out what they're watching because that's
one play out of an entire game.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
They're watching the game. But Dick, how do you know
what people are coming for? I'm not talking about one play.
I'm talking about the fact that people are talking about this.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
They're engaged.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Maybe they're engaged because they're rooting against somebody. Maybe they
don't like a particular player. How much Angel Reese hate?
Is that bad?
Speaker 2 (37:03):
Well? You tell me, you tell me.
Speaker 4 (37:07):
If somebody's watching a game because they don't like a
player from another team, what's wrong with that?
Speaker 6 (37:12):
Dick?
Speaker 3 (37:13):
I'm just listen. I think you're you're smart enough to
understand my point here. Do you want people tuning into
this radio show because everyone thinks we're clowns.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
We are clowns. But that but is that? I mean, like, honestly,
do you.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
Want people I don't tuning in to hear you because
you're a bozo? Do you want people watching the WNBA
because it's a circus.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
I do not believe, and the core of my being,
I do not believe that this league has got by
far the greatest ratings of all time because people think
it's a clown show.
Speaker 7 (37:47):
No.

I think some people are tuning in because they're like, wow,
this is a train wreck. I think a vast majority
are tuning in because it is amazing to watch them play,
especially Indiana.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
Okay, I don't agree with that, and I don't have
any evidence to back it up, neither do you. Maybe
we should start asking people every day they tune in
to fill out a questionnaire.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Well, then why are you watching? If you are correct,
which you may be.
Speaker 4 (38:12):
If you are correct, then it behooves the WNBA to
continue to be a clown show, because right, that's why
you say they are watching.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
Then keep it going, Keep being a clown show man,
keep being a team in a league that people like
to beat up and scream about and make fun of
and get angry about and have protests about. If that's
what you want, then great because from a business perspective,
I can disagree with you there, Dicky. It is working
