on or get with him early in the day. Well,
we recorded it on a laptop at my house in
my office, and the minute the thing's over, I got
to start editing it and I get the spinning wheel

great these guys are. I get a text from Harlan

about the fall. He's been with us forever, but I

he could not have been more excited, more fired up,

was thinking about this, was that you're talking to a
buddy mine who's here on the burm today about the
offensive line. Do you remember how many injuries they had

last year on the offensive line? Was Charles Cross out
for a couple of games?

Did he miss because we had Josh Jones? Yeah?

relatively healthy a year ago on the offensive line, and
then the guys that came in. I remember Millan going
on the year talking about Josh Jones was one of
the best backup left tackles in the NFL. But they
were pretty freaking damn healthy last year besides those spots,
I mean Isabel's Sundel.

Yeah he missed.

He missed three games last year, and I don't remember
the exact games that they were. Abe Lucas, By the way,
you remember how the season started for Abe Lucas.

to a point where obviously he's now a guy that
just count on to be awesome. He played seventeen games
a year ago. I think Gray's Abel played all seventeen
games a year ago. I think Anthony Bradford also played

With their offensive line. I have not felt this comfortable
with their offensive line. Sundale played thirteen games, by the way,

their offensive line since probably going from the four year

the second round of the wildcard round. Whatever so I
think it's the strength. My point is this real quickly.
We cited for all these years ripping on the offensive line.

we have right now? Obviously the left side of the
line is no competition, right, Not that Cross and Sable
aren't good, but they're also not freaking first ballot Hall
of famers like Hutching or Hall of famers like Hutching.

got Locklear too, Beck and Gray.

Correct versus Sundale, Bradford, Lucas. So what are you asking me,
like my confidence compared.

that that they did not win a championship. You can

offensive line. But if you're talking about lockley Or versus Lucas,

Chris Gray versus Bradford, Sundal versus toe Beck, which I

I just don't think that they're going to be as
good as they think that we're not going to be

I think they're going to be really, really good, and
I think they could easily win the Super Bowl. I
think they could easily finish second behind the Rams in
the NFC West, and maybe in between, maybe lose a

on field, would it shocked the hell out of you
if the Seahawks had to travel to I don't know,

Green Bay or wherever and they you know, lost the
game on the road in the second round?

And unfortunately, because we have so much data on what
the Seahawks do when they're the one seed versus what

the playoffs start, I'm gonna say, what seed are they?

saying they are not going into the super Bowl. They

are certainly not winning the super If they're the number
one seed or maybe even the number two seed where
there's only one potential road game to get to the
super Bowl, then I'm probably saying, yeah, they're getting to
the super Bowl and probably winning it.

other close game that we talked about that they won,
not the RAM, oh, both RAM games, sorry, NFC Championship

and the Thursday Night game. So either one of those
things don't happen, they probably don't play in the Super Bowl.

the utmost confidence you were gonna win. Now, the Rams game,

most of us walked into that stadium thinking we were

been shocked that they lost, but I liked them.

They came this close, and they may have beaten the
Dodgers a year ago. I mean, the difference in the

La and Seattle wasn't that big a difference, guys, No,

doesn't hit that home run, the Dodgers don't win the
World Series and Toronto is sitting here with a championship,

line is shifting drills, right, it's always seventy two in

we have to run a pretty long distance between drills.

Well, I mean nobody really, I mean, defensive lineman run
like mad all over the field.

Fired up about the way you guys are playing right now.
This is the first time, Abe, we figured it out
since the four into the five season that this team
has brought back all five starters from the previous year
because five Toho six we lost Hutch too, right obviously, Minnesota.

Do you feel that Do you feel that continuity right now?
Speaker 7 (22:11):
Yeah? I mean I feel it all not just on
the offensive line, but kind of all over the building,
you know. I mean, obviously you have the new guys
that came in this year in free agency and the draft,
but retaining most of the coaching staff and most of
the players. It kind of, at least for me, it
gives me more confidence just going into this year to
kind of I mean really from the start training camp
just let it rip more. So I'm happy about it.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
How about the continuity with your quarterback between last year
at this time.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
I remember being out here last year and I was like,
eyes are locked on fourteen? Was he any good? Is
he any good? And this year is like you just relaxed.
You're like, you know, every ball is going to be
right there.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
So what about how do you feel now with him
versus were you kind of you know, was he kind
of auditioning for you guys last year at this time too?
Speaker 3 (22:54):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (22:54):
No, I mean, any any quarterback that steps up to
lead an NFL offense is pretty good in my book,
just because I mean, the nature of that position is
one literally one of the hardest on the field. So
I mean there was never a question to me of
like always Samony Good, it was this is the guy
I'm blocking for like, let's let's get it on, you know,
I mean, and I'm excited to see what he can
do this year as well.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
Yeah, well, I I know you. I know there are
certain things that get you fired up. We'll talk about
one of them in a minute, which is the Apple Cup,
by the way, But wait till the end. How much
were you motivated after Week one last year and the
way that Niner game ended?
Speaker 7 (23:29):
I mean, I've kind of I've spoken on this before,
like it it bugged me, but it also didn't You.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Said that, not me, by the way. I would never
say that ever.
Speaker 7 (23:40):
You're much bigger, I mean, like, but in my mind,
I was just like, Okay, it happened, Like I've got
another game to play this week. I've got, right, you know,
sixteen more in the regular seas, sixty more opportunities, like
why would I let this one playdah me down to
the rest of the year, right, It's football. It happened,
so no doubt, just move forward.

Well, you guys went seventeen and two after that game,
right in your next nineteen games, and I thought you
got better and better and better I felt, personally, and
I'm not honestly abe, not just saying this because you're
sitting with us. I don't remember calling your name at all,
like at the end of the year, and that's a
good thing for an offensive line. Did you, honestly and
your gut feel like you played your best football at

the end of the year.

I mean, if I'm honest, I felt like throughout the
season I just got progressively better, like I mean, and
there was growing pains. Of course, there's a lot of
things kind of behind the scenes for me that went
on off the field, but like for me, it was
just like again, this is where the kind of the
confidence grows. Just a testament to continuing to come to
work and just putting the work to get better every day,
and then having great teammates alongside me to help me

get better.

Let's talk about some of those teammates. How about the center.

We didn't know much about Jaslen Sendel last year and
he kind of shows up and we're like, Okay, who's
this guy. Hopefully he can be the answer at center.
Boy he turned out to be. Just talk about what
he did for you guys last year and his progression
into year two as a starter.
Speaker 7 (24:58):
Yeah, I mean, you know, Jalen is the I mean,
probably other than Sam, the most important piece on the offense,
you know, just given that he's iding the fronts, he's
making all the calls. I mean, he's communicating to all
of us what we have to do as other linemen.
And I mean, and he knows his stuff, and he's
on top of it, and he's got an attitude about him,
and he's a really good player and he gets after
(25:18):
it like he he goes hard. So you know, I'm
happy to have him kind of as the leader of
that of that unit when we get on the field someday.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
Abe Lucas with us. Went home last night with a
wife and I watched Hard Knocks. You were featured a
lot on the second episode. So was Sam Darnold's spin rate,
By the way, a little too long. I think that
ball is still on the air. By the way, what'd
you make of episode two?

And what do you make of the whole thing so far?

It's it's cool the way they're putting it together. I mean,
it's not I don't really know what else to think
about it. I Mean, they miked me up at one point,
so I was like, I'm kind of waiting to see
if I show up anymore because they put one one
SoundBite of me in there so far, and it was
a good SoundBite, so I was happy about it. But right,
I mean, the camera people seem super nice, So yeah,

Well, there was a there was a sequence with Derek
call I'm not talking about just the one involving youth
sure where Mike got mad at Derek because he was
getting right Dick too close to Darnold and he yanked
him off the field and he told Derek he says,
you know, I'm the f and coach. This is my
f and practice. And I loved it because I don't
think people have seen it. There's a little bit of

Oh yeah, yeah, talk about that a little bit kind
of what we see or what you see that maybe
we don't really see.

I mean, no, Mike's a hard ass in his own way,
I mean, very much a player's coach. But also I think,
and I think this is what makes him such a
great coach and such a great culture man, is that
you know. It's like he always says loose and focus,
like he's able to be loose, like in his own
unique way and when he needs to be super focused
and like you said, like turn it on like that's
that's who he is and it comes naturally to him.
And he's he's got respect from everybody on this team,

especially me. I mean he's he's ad my coach. I'm
happy to be playing for him. And you know, we
need that as players, you know, to guys to kind
of like, you know, get up on us a little
bit and make sure that we're doing things the right way.

So do you personally know that the cameras are there?
And do you think other guys maybe act a little
bit different because the camera's there versus what you've seen
another camps?
Speaker 7 (27:19):
Yea, yeah, everybody probably does. We have a in the
old line where we have a clip Farming find so
you know, if you get around around the camera you
start acting different, somebody calls it find you up, Cliff Farming.
I think every room in the building might have that.

So who's the most likely to be uh an offender?
Speaker 7 (27:37):
Oh? I don't know. I don't know who the most
likely is. I think everybody in their own way probably
either see the camera and tries to hide or tries
to you know, be extra flamboyant or something.

The same guys are getting all the coverage. It's like
d Hall and Williams.

Yeah, I mean Daron Derek Call has been all over
the place, man, I mean the stuff like with Brady
Russell and him where they had to get out, you know,
get out there a little bit and boys are being
boys and Aiden kind of aired out in front of
in front of Coach Mac and say no, it wasn't
why he was his goaling whatever.

I mean, do you do you feel like all this
even brings the team closer together when you're on a
TV show like that and everybody is getting the publicity
that the team believes they really deserve, and some some
guy people aren't giving it to you. Vegas isn't giving
it to you. They're all over the rams ass for
crying out loud.

I don't really think any of that really matters, to
be honest with you, because at the end of the day,
the I mean, the process for us is the same
and like you know, even even the clips that are
on the show, it's made it edited to look entertaining
to the audience, right, so you know they're not It's
not just like a twelve hour broadcast each episode of
like a day. So it looks very very different to

do our own thing and stick to our process. Like
who cares about what anybody else says? So that's that's
where we're at, what we're doing.

think it's the strength. My point is this real quickly.
We cited for all these years ripping on the offensive line.

got Locklear too, Beck and Gray.

It's crazy you think about how much time has gone
by since then. But you know, it's funny you brought
that up because I was I was thinking about this
the other day, about how close this franchise came to
having four titles. The Pittsburgh game, Jeremy Stevens catches that
bault the one yard line. If they don't call that
penalty and they score, they may.

And think about I mean, would the national perception of
the Hawks be any different or would it still be, Oh,
it's just the cute little team up in the Northwest.

I don't know how many Lombardies we have to win
in order to get the similar type of respect that
fifteen other cities would get if they had two Super
Bowl champions.

Yeah, the fact that they're the fact like like yesterday
what I said, the fact that they are that the
Baltimore Ravens, coming off an eight to nine season with
a new head coach, are more highly favored in a
more difficult conference, are more highly favored to win the
Super Bowl than the Seahawks.

Yeah, I think people are paying attention to them.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
I just don't think that they're going to be as
good as they think that we're not going to be
as good as we were last year. That's that's what
i'm That's the sense that I get.

I think they're going to be really, really good, and
I think they could easily win the Super Bowl. I
think they could easily finish second behind the Rams in
the NFC West, and maybe in between, maybe lose a
divisional game, right, I mean all that, I mean if
they don't end up at home nice and you get
on field, would it shocked the hell out of you
if the Seahawks had to travel to I don't know,

Green Bay or wherever and they you know, lost the
game on the road in the second round?

And unfortunately, because we have so much data on what
the Seahawks do when they're the one seed versus what
they do when they're any other seed, I am I already.
I am already knowing what I'm going to predict. Once
the playoffs start, I'm gonna say, what seed are they?
And if you're telling me they're a wild card, I'm
saying they are not going into the super Bowl. They

are certainly not winning the super If they're the number
one seed or maybe even the number two seed where
there's only one potential road game to get to the
super Bowl, then I'm probably saying, yeah, they're getting to
the super Bowl and probably winning it.

I don't freak out about them having to win a
road game.

the Seahawks went to LA for the NFC Championship game,
for example, there'd be twenty thousand including me.

For the Niner Ram game.

Right, the Niner Ram was at the NFC Championship right
when the Niners won.

Stafford interception to drop them.

But that was the NFC Championship, right, guys, that was
not the divisional And it was unbelievable how many Niner
fans were there.

So I don't really freak out much about that.

But go into like a Philadelphia or the weather in
Green Bay. Maybe you go to a dome in Detroit, whatever,
they're all juice stuff something like that. So, I mean,
we talked about this the other day that they got
some breaks. They got some breaks in the RAM game,
they got some breaks in you know what was the
other close game that we talked about that they won,
not the RAM, oh, both RAM games, sorry, NFC Championship

and the Thursday Night game. So either one of those
things don't happen, they probably don't play in the Super Bowl.

Almost like on your bucket list now, right as Seahawks fans,
that let's see them do something they've never done, right,
Let's see them roll through the road like the eighty
three Seahawks tried to do.

in the playoffs, every single game you went in with
the utmost confidence you were gonna win. Now, the Rams game,
you knew it was gonna be tough, but I think
most of us walked into that stadium thinking we were
gonna win.

That felt I felt good about it. I wouldn't have
been shocked that they lost, but I liked them.

They were at home. How could you not feel good

catches that interception and the Rams don't win that game
and subsequently don't win that Super Bowl, does everybody think
that the Rams thought of screw those picks and getting

many times have we said, win a World Series and

Dodgers a year ago. I mean, the difference in the

line is shifting drills, right, it's always seventy two in

we have to run a pretty long distance between drills.

Fired up about the way you guys are playing right now.
This is the first time, Abe, we figured it out
since the four into the five season that this team
has brought back all five starters from the previous year
because five Toho six we lost Hutch too, right obviously, Minnesota.

Do you feel that Do you feel that continuity right now?
Speaker 7 (22:11):
Yeah? I mean I feel it all not just on
the offensive line, but kind of all over the building,
you know. I mean, obviously you have the new guys
that came in this year in free agency and the draft,
but retaining most of the coaching staff and most of
the players. It kind of, at least for me, it
gives me more confidence just going into this year to
kind of I mean really from the start training camp
just let it rip more. So I'm happy about it.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
How about the continuity with your quarterback between last year
at this time.
Speaker 3 (22:37):
I remember being out here last year and I was like,
eyes are locked on fourteen? Was he any good? Is
he any good? And this year is like you just relaxed.
You're like, you know, every ball is going to be
right there.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
So what about how do you feel now with him
versus were you kind of you know, was he kind
of auditioning for you guys last year at this time too?
Speaker 3 (22:54):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (22:54):
No, I mean, any any quarterback that steps up to
lead an NFL offense is pretty good in my book,
just because I mean, the nature of that position is
one literally one of the hardest on the field. So
I mean there was never a question to me of
like always Samony Good, it was this is the guy
I'm blocking for like, let's let's get it on, you know,
I mean, and I'm excited to see what he can
do this year as well.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
Yeah, well, I I know you. I know there are
certain things that get you fired up. We'll talk about
one of them in a minute, which is the Apple Cup,
by the way, But wait till the end. How much
were you motivated after Week one last year and the
way that Niner game ended?
Speaker 7 (23:29):
I mean, I've kind of I've spoken on this before,
like it it bugged me, but it also didn't You.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Said that, not me, by the way. I would never
say that ever.
Speaker 7 (23:40):
You're much bigger, I mean, like, but in my mind,
I was just like, Okay, it happened, Like I've got
another game to play this week. I've got, right, you know,
sixteen more in the regular seas, sixty more opportunities, like
why would I let this one playdah me down to
the rest of the year, right, It's football. It happened,
so no doubt, just move forward.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
Well, you guys went seventeen and two after that game,
right in your next nineteen games, and I thought you
got better and better and better I felt, personally, and
I'm not honestly abe, not just saying this because you're
sitting with us. I don't remember calling your name at all,
like at the end of the year, and that's a
good thing for an offensive line. Did you, honestly and
your gut feel like you played your best football at

the end of the year.
Speaker 7 (24:19):
I mean, if I'm honest, I felt like throughout the
season I just got progressively better, like I mean, and
there was growing pains. Of course, there's a lot of
things kind of behind the scenes for me that went
on off the field, but like for me, it was
just like again, this is where the kind of the
confidence grows. Just a testament to continuing to come to
work and just putting the work to get better every day,
and then having great teammates alongside me to help me

get better.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
Let's talk about some of those teammates. How about the center.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
We didn't know much about Jaslen Sendel last year and
he kind of shows up and we're like, Okay, who's
this guy. Hopefully he can be the answer at center.
Boy he turned out to be. Just talk about what
he did for you guys last year and his progression
into year two as a starter.
Speaker 7 (24:58):
Yeah, I mean, you know, Jalen is the I mean,
probably other than Sam, the most important piece on the offense,
you know, just given that he's iding the fronts, he's
making all the calls. I mean, he's communicating to all
of us what we have to do as other linemen.
And I mean, and he knows his stuff, and he's
on top of it, and he's got an attitude about him,
and he's a really good player and he gets after
(25:18):
it like he he goes hard. So you know, I'm
happy to have him kind of as the leader of
that of that unit when we get on the field someday.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
Abe Lucas with us. Went home last night with a
wife and I watched Hard Knocks. You were featured a
lot on the second episode. So was Sam Darnold's spin rate,
By the way, a little too long. I think that
ball is still on the air. By the way, what'd
you make of episode two?

And what do you make of the whole thing so far?
Speaker 7 (25:43):
It's it's cool the way they're putting it together. I mean,
it's not I don't really know what else to think
about it. I Mean, they miked me up at one point,
so I was like, I'm kind of waiting to see
if I show up anymore because they put one one
SoundBite of me in there so far, and it was
a good SoundBite, so I was happy about it. But right,
I mean, the camera people seem super nice, So yeah,

I mean, I guess it's cool.

Well, there was a there was a sequence with Derek
call I'm not talking about just the one involving youth
sure where Mike got mad at Derek because he was
getting right Dick too close to Darnold and he yanked
him off the field and he told Derek he says,
you know, I'm the f and coach. This is my
f and practice. And I loved it because I don't
think people have seen it. There's a little bit of

red ass in him, is there not?

Oh yeah, yeah, talk about that a little bit kind
of what we see or what you see that maybe
we don't really see.

I mean, no, Mike's a hard ass in his own way,
I mean, very much a player's coach. But also I think,
and I think this is what makes him such a
great coach and such a great culture man, is that
you know. It's like he always says loose and focus,
like he's able to be loose, like in his own
unique way and when he needs to be super focused
and like you said, like turn it on like that's
that's who he is and it comes naturally to him.
And he's he's got respect from everybody on this team,
(26:57):
especially me. I mean he's he's ad my coach. I'm
happy to be playing for him. And you know, we
need that as players, you know, to guys to kind
of like, you know, get up on us a little
bit and make sure that we're doing things the right way.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
So do you personally know that the cameras are there?
And do you think other guys maybe act a little
bit different because the camera's there versus what you've seen
another camps?
Speaker 7 (27:19):
Yea, yeah, everybody probably does. We have a in the
old line where we have a clip Farming find so
you know, if you get around around the camera you
start acting different, somebody calls it find you up, Cliff Farming.
I think every room in the building might have that.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
So who's the most likely to be uh an offender?
Speaker 7 (27:37):
Oh? I don't know. I don't know who the most
likely is. I think everybody in their own way probably
either see the camera and tries to hide or tries
to you know, be extra flamboyant or something.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
The same guys are getting all the coverage. It's like
d Hall and Williams.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
Yeah, I mean Daron Derek Call has been all over
the place, man, I mean the stuff like with Brady
Russell and him where they had to get out, you know,
get out there a little bit and boys are being
boys and Aiden kind of aired out in front of
in front of Coach Mac and say no, it wasn't
why he was his goaling whatever.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
I don't know.

I mean, do you do you feel like all this
even brings the team closer together when you're on a
TV show like that and everybody is getting the publicity
that the team believes they really deserve, and some some
guy people aren't giving it to you. Vegas isn't giving
it to you. They're all over the rams ass for
crying out loud.
Speaker 7 (28:24):
I don't really think any of that really matters, to
be honest with you, because at the end of the day,
the I mean, the process for us is the same
and like you know, even even the clips that are
on the show, it's made it edited to look entertaining
to the audience, right, so you know they're not It's
not just like a twelve hour broadcast each episode of
like a day. So it looks very very different to

do our own thing and stick to our process. Like
who cares about what anybody else says? So that's that's
where we're at, what we're doing.

you know got it took forever to get a second
guy to get a new contract on the offensive line,

and now we got two of them here right in Seattle,
playing left tackle and playing playing right tackle.
