Speaker 1 (00:01):
God, it's good to be here. Man. This place is
buzzing already.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
The emeral Quin Casino Sports Book is gonna be the
happening place for the NFL opener tonight Baltimore and Kansas City.
You know, normally, I don't know if I'll be a
Jackson about you when it comes to openers, like if
you get like, you know, film something for the MLS
when the Sounders have their first game, or when the
Mariners have their first game Opening Day in the NBA,
Opening night in the NBA, the NHL.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Baseball.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
There's just something different I think about baseball because when
baseball starts, it means that summer is almost here and
school is almost done. When you're a little kid and
you're growing up and you see the Mariners playing in
early April, that means, hey, man, I'm like two months
away not having to do the school thing anymore. So
baseball kind of there's more nostalgia I think around baseball
opening day, at least for me, than there is for

(00:49):
other sports.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
And maybe Sunday is gonna be different.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
When you wake up on Sunday morning and you flip
on the red zone right and you see the Seahawks
play at one o'clock and everyone's going except for the
team that played on Thursday and Friday.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Sunday is gonna kind of feel different.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
But tonight, there's just something about tonight, man, And for
me with our guy Kevin Harlan doing the broadcast, he'll
join us at four thirty or so from the booth
at Arrowhead Stadium, back again for another year courtesy of
the Emerald Quick Casino. When you hear his voice on
the year tonight at five o'clock and Kurt Warner joining
him with Baltimore in Kansas City from an electric Arrowhead Stadium,

(01:24):
Tony's the Chiefs try to go for three straight titles,
something nobody's ever done in the Super Bowl era in
the history of the NFL. Maybe it's because the Mariners
are just in their kind of crap sandwich situation they're
in right now. But there's something about this game tonight
and this NFL season starting. I don't know what it is, man,
that's really got me fired up.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
It's something magical, at least for me, Like Fantasy football
marks the beginning and then the moment I woke up
this morning. You open the fantasy football app, you check
your lineup. You make sure the chiefs of Ravens are
in your lineup where you want them to be. And
for me waking up and going through that motion on
a Thursday morning, that signaled to me, Ah, it's football season.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
I'm checking my lineup.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
LFG baby, Yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
And Florio mentioned it yesterday. I mean, you got and
Kevin's going to talk about this when he comes out
at four thirty. Just look at the AFC man and
look at all the quarterbacks in this conference. It is
just wild how many good quarterbacks are in this conference.
Josh Allen, two a Toungue, I Low and Joe Burrow,
Deshaun Watson if he ever figures something out, Lamar Jackson,
Hell Russell Wilson's in Pittsburgh. Now you got the young

(02:30):
guy Richardson with the Colts. You got CJ. Stroud, the
young buck with the Texans. You got Trevor Lawrence, the
highest paid guy. He may not deserve it, but he's
the highest paid guy with the Jaguars. You got Mahomes,
you got fricking Justin Herbert, you got the rookie and
Bonicks and Denver.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Dude. This is crazy. I mean we've been talking about how.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
There's just kind of this this big gap between Josh Allen,
Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the NFL, and it
feels like that kind of may be starting to change
a little bit. So, you know, I'm rooting for Kansas
City if the Seahawks can't make it, I'm rooting to
see some history.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
I like Patrick Mahomes. I know he turned some people off.
I don't know why.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
I know Travis Kelsey turns people off, and I know
why because people can't stand all the drama with Taylor Swift.
Doesn't bother me any, but I know some people are
bothered by. But I'm kind of rooting for Kansas City
to do it. I mean, if they played the Seahawks,
then fam Obviously, I'm seeing a lot of people that
are picking Green Bay to win the NFC and Jordan
Love is the next big up and coming thing.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
The NFC, dude, to me, is wide open.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
It is absolutely wide open, and the Seahawks have just
as good a shot as anybody to pull this thing off.
I think the Niners are taking a step back. I'm
not sure if there's a truly elite team right now
in the NFC. I mean, I love the Seahawks. Chances
there's sixty six hundred to win the whole thing at
the Emeral Queen.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
I mean, is it worth one hundred bucks?

Speaker 2 (03:46):
You get a couple of guys, you pop in fifty
bucks a piece, and hey, if they're in the mix
in December and you can start to maybe dream. Like
last year we had Greg Rosenthal in the year, right
or was it two years ago? When was the year
that Green Bay played San Francisco in the Divisional round?
It last season that they played them and they almost won.
I think it was last year. Love, Yeah, right, it
was last year. So Greg Rosenthal comes on the air

(04:07):
with us early in the year and he says, I said,
give me a dark horse. He said, you know what,
nobody's talking about him. And they're talking about him now,
by the way, but nobody was talking about him. Then
green Bay Packers would Jordan love dark horse? And they
came with a minute seconds of beating San Francisco in
that divisional round game, lost a twenty four to twenty
one game. You had a win ticket on green Bay,
like I did they make the conference championship? We're like,

(04:27):
whoa wait a minute, now they're two games away from
cashing this baby, and you're a game away from hedging
this sucker, right, So is it worth it to just
get a couple of guys for giggles and throw Benjamin
to the Seahawks at plus sixty six.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Hundred to win.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
The whole thing is, remember, if they make the game,
you can hedge it, and you're still taking money home.
What the hell, I'm not about the journey man, How
about the journey I'm not gonna make that bad.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
I get the fun of having the bet on the table.
I've never been that kind of a personality. I've never
done that, so I would definitely not do that. But
I do think in terms of the NFC, I do
think that there's two and then the rest. I think
it's San Francisco. I think it's Detroit, and then I
think it's the rest. I mean, really, Detroit should have
been in the Super Bowl last year, having out blown

(05:10):
that lead so horribly, but they've obviously restocked, they've gotten
even better. Jamison Williams's back. San Francisco got their contracts
done for Ayuk and whatnot Williams. So I just feel
like it's those two teams and then a bunch who
might challenge him, and because there's just such a gap,
maybe maybe Dallas, but I don't think so. I wouldn't

(05:31):
bet anybody other than those two.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Well, look, there's always somebody and I get that, right.
You're a reasonable guy. You're not an irrational.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
Clin right, very logical.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
You think with logic. You're like mister Spock. Okay, I
think with my heart. You think with your brain. But
I just think there's always a team that comes out
of nowhere. There's always somebody that surprises. And I guess
the question is why can't that football team and why
won't that football team be the Seahawks. I mean reasons why,
I mean injuries obviously, reasons why we see the Gena
Smith that we saw in the second half of the

(06:01):
year two years ago not the guy we saw in
the first half of the year. Reasons why Ryan Grubbs
offense has a hard time assimilating to the NFL, which
I don't see that happening, but it's certainly possible. Reasons
why Mike McDonald is not ready to be a head
coach in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
He's a d C but not a head coach.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
Reasons why Byron Murphy, who we all think is going
to be a star, never really takes and doesn't become
that guy that we hope he can be until maybe.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Later in the year.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
The offensive line obviously still has problems.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
You know.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Connor Williams comes back off the injury and is never
the same as he was before the injury. The right
tackle spot, you know, George Fan, he has a hard
time holding that thing down before Lucas comes back.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
I mean, yeah, there's a lot of reasons why right.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
I mean, there's there's tons of things we could talk about,
but that's a lot of stuff we just mentioned right there.
I mean, you got other guys like, you know, Rik
Wollen playing for a contract, DK Metcalf playing for a contract.
You know Smith confirming today that his camp approached the
Seahawks about a new deal before this year is over,
playing for a con You got a lot of hungry guys.

(07:01):
You got a guy in McDonald's thirty five and has
a scheme that people have had a hard time breaking,
a code that people have had a hard time breaking.
I don't know, I mean I kind of like this
team a lot, you know, I don't want to get
too crazy with him, but I kind of like them
a lot, Jackson, I really do.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Listen, and I do like them as well.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
I think that we all have high confidence in Ryan
Grubb turning this offense into a powerhouse and Ryan Grubb
not being here more than two years based on I
think what he's gonna do. I still am I Mike
McDonald and the comments that Humulon has made about how
he's like the best defensive mind on Earth and all
these things.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
It's it's great.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
I just still need to see it because I'm not
necessarily convinced that the front seven is there to build
a powerhouse football team that can make a run.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
I just don't think they have the pass rush.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
I don't think they have the run defense, and the
linebackers are not deep at all. So that concerns me
so much that it's hard for me to even get
close to making a bet.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Well, I think this.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
I think this that this Yawks John Schneider has gone
out and he has addressed the line of scrimmage big time.
He got Draymond Jones, he got Leonard Williams, he drafted
Byron Murphy. Right, I mean, if the defensive line is
not good this year, you're gonna go back and look
at John and say, hey man, you're kind of pulling
a Depoto here because every button you're pushing isn't working.
I mean, it's not like they haven't you know, they

(08:19):
haven't thrown capital at the line. They've thrown a bunch
of capital, draft free agency money at the at the
at the defensive line. Chenna Nwosu hopefully back. I mean,
we'll see if he plays on Sunday, but he's gonna
come back. You got Draymont, you made the move for
big Cat. You drafted Byron Murphy in the first I mean,
they have they have addressed it. They have absolutely addressed it.

(08:40):
Now we can argue have they really addressed the offensive
line the way they're supposed to. I think they have
first rounder and Charles Cross went out and got Abe
Lucas fairly high in the draft. They went out and
got the money to sign Connor Williams and free agencies.
So I think, for the first time in a long time,
I see a general manager that has put a buttload
of resources into the line of scrimmage, and that's gotta payoff.

(09:01):
All Right, We're gonna break Kevin Harlan's gonna join us
at four thirty Mike Congrid at four o'clock kickoff at
five Ravens, Kansas City. Rick Neuheisel, though from CBS, joins
us with his Taco Time pick of the week. Next
on ninety three to three KJRFM.

Speaker 5 (09:21):
Your home for college football Saturdays, is live with CBS
sports analyst Rick new Heisel, powered buy Taco Time.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Hungry at Taco Time.

Speaker 5 (09:29):
It's easy to create exactly what you're craving, and we
wouldn't have it any other way.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
How do you Taco Time?

Speaker 5 (09:35):
Customize your meal and order ahead on the Taco Time
Northwest down, Taco Time Time for something different? Now with
Rick new Heisel, here's Softy and Dick aw Right.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
We're back here at you see Sportsbook getting ready for
the Ravens and Chiefs. At five pm. We'll get our
Taco Time pick of the week from Rick. In a
second Jacksonville State Nope, Clemson nope. Last week oh for two.
So it's a great time to buy the dip with
Rick in a matter of minutes on the ear, How
are you man?

Speaker 6 (10:04):
I am fine. I feel horrible about the way we
began last week, Absolutely horrible. All that inside information about
rich Rod and his team. That did us a lot
of good, didn't it.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
Hey, you know what, it's all setting us up for
the comeback. Baby in America loves the comeback, my friend.
So we'll get to that in just a minute. But man,
I don't even know where to start from. Last week
USC taking down LSU. Was that the biggest win of
Lincoln Riley's career in LA or what?

Speaker 6 (10:33):
Well, it was a fabulous job by everybody associated with
USC on the defensive side of the ball. And add
Miller Moss to guys who can flat process as a quarterback.
You know this is a guy when you listen to
the stories about him getting chances at USC. And I
guess there was a situation where Lincoln had this new

(10:55):
concept that he wanted to try, and everybody liked the concept,
but he forbade any of the quarterbacks to use it
in spring ball to check to it because he wanted
to have it for the next year, and he knew
teams would be scouting it. And Moss saw the opportunity
and checked to it and threw a touchdown path and
he comes over and Lincoln's mad at him, and he says,

(11:16):
shooters got a shoot coach. When you hear those kind
of stories, When you hear those kind of stories, you're going,
this guy's got a little something to him, and he
showed it the other night, especially in that final drive.
So the Trojans are They're fun to watch, at least
out of the gate.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
Well, the other story that I kind of had my
eye on from last week before we get to some
of that kind of West Coast big ten Pack two stuff,
is that has has Dabo just lost it? I mean honestly,
I mean he comes out of the gates and just
gets annihilated by Kirby Smart, like just smashed it to
pieces by Georgia. And this has been going on now
for far too long. Down there, people were talking about

(11:52):
him not embracing an il on the transfer portal, blah
blah blah. Does Dabbo need to get with the times
or is Clemson in trouble with him?

Speaker 6 (12:01):
See? I think Dabo's trying to be a parent to
his team. I think he you know, when he goes
and sits in a living room and tells mom and dad,
I'm going to bring your young guy onto my campus
and we're going to teach him just like you've taught
him to date. Uh, he takes that seriously and that's
why he doesn't want to cut anybody loose. He wants
them to have their chance. But he was on a

(12:24):
heater when he had Deshaun Watson and uh, Tevor Lawrence
said Jacksonville Wright, Trevor Lawrence and obviously dj uey Unglila
ended up leaving because he got beat out. And now
Kate klub Nick isn't quite what those other guys were
that hurts him. That same is true at the wide
receiver position. So if he's going to hang onto this

(12:47):
mentality that they're mine and I'm going to coach them
through it, then he's going to take some lumps like
he did. And there are those who are gonna, you know,
lot him for it. And there's going to be some
Clemson fans like Tyler and Spartanburg that are going to say, man,
keep up with the times and we'll just have to
wait and see how it bears itself out.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
Well, you mentioned dju Rick Rick new Heiser with us
Turtesy Attack of Time, and obviously we saw him play
at Oregon State, saw him playing person last year in
the rain. Maybe he was unfair to judge him in
that game because the weather was so awful. But I
just remember leaving that game thing and this guy can't throw.
He's not a passer. I mean, what did they see
on tape on him that made them go out and

(13:24):
spend as much money as they did to get him.

Speaker 6 (13:27):
Well, he's a physical specimen and he can run and
he can throw. So you look at him and say
he's got it all. But what he doesn't have is
all the throws. You know, great pictures if they're going
to be starters, have to have, you know, a fastball,
they've got to have something breaking, and they have something
off speed. He doesn't have all three of those pictures,

(13:48):
which makes him a relief pitcher. So he's going to
have his day in the sun when he goes out
there and throws a strike, and we've seen plenty of
those in his career, but when he has to drop
one in over the top of somebody, yeah, he just
doesn't have that throw. And those throws are necessary if
you're going to be the complete quarterback. And that's why
he finds times when he struggles.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
I want to think Rick, that Michigan's going to take
a step back this year. You know, look, it wasn't
super duper impressed with them against Fresno, But then again,
how good is Fresno?

Speaker 1 (14:19):
We have no idea.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
We'll find out, Morgan sark this Saturday when they play Texas.
But what's your kind of gut fill on Michigan after
week one?

Speaker 6 (14:27):
Well, Davis Warren got his first start. This is a
great story. You walk on kid that had leukemia in
high school and you know now is the starting quarterback
for Michigan. You got a root for a kid like that,
and it was a kind of start you kind of
predict for somebody who hasn't played much. Who's fifteen of
twenty five and one hundred and forty yards passing, and

(14:48):
you want more. You want JJ McCarthy to still be there,
but he's not. So it's going to be slow and
the question is can they up the ante in time
as Texas gets there? Who quin you were through for
three fifty five and they've got all kinds of speed.
And maybe more impressive for Texas was how they played
defense against a pretty good Colorado State offense with a

(15:08):
quarterback and a big time receiver returning, held him to
less than two hundred yards of offense. So this to
me is one sided on its face. But here's the deal.
There's great DNA at Michigan. They they're going to play
their tails off. The crowd will be into it, it'll
be a great scene, and so this will get to
the fourth quarter and I feel like it's going to

(15:30):
be much like we saw Texas in Tuscaloosa last year
where they finally pull away at the end.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
Well, the other guy too, Quinn Ewrs.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
I mean, look again, saw him play against the Huskies
and the Sugar Bowl a year ago.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
I mean, I think he's good. I don't think he's elite.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
I don't think he's a Heisman Trophy contender right now
for me, I mean, am I am I under selling
Quinn yours? Or is he better than I think?

Speaker 6 (15:53):
I think he's better than you think. I think because
of the way his career began. He reclassif fight out
of high school to go to Ohio State. You know you,
so you immediately think he's the he's him right as
the kids say, now he's him, and then he gets
the big money to go to Texas. So again, this

(16:13):
guy must be just off the charts. But like most kids,
he takes a while to develop, but I am seeing
some maturity. And what I'm also seeing is Sark having
been kind of tutored by Nick Saban, as Kirby Smart
was tutored by Nick Saban. Say Smart went to Georgia
and created Alabama. It looks to me like Sark's creating
Alabama in Austin.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Yeah, Well, Rick new Heisel's with us Jet Fish is
trying to create something in Seattle. They got Eastern Michigan
in town this Saturday with Chris Creighton, the former Roosevelt
A law He played quarterback at Roosevelt by the Way
just down the street, and Dave Hoffman's nephew is playing
football for Eastern Michigan. Should I be concerned at all
about the Eagles this weekend? They got a good program.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Man.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
They take on these Power five teams and they usually
do pretty well.

Speaker 6 (17:00):
You know, I think Washington will have their way this weekend.
But do not ever count out Chris Creighton. If you
look at his resume, he has coached his tail off
at some smaller places without much in the way of resources.
And Eastern Michigan it wasn't so long ago they were
talking about canceling football, and he went in there and

(17:20):
they've been to a bunch of bowl games, so he
gets the most out of his guys. But I think
Washington's got too much. That's a great beginning for the dogs.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Okay, how about Texas Tech and Wazoo And the reason
why I'm bringing this up, Rick, is because the Apple
Cup is in nine days from now. I don't know
what bizarro world we're living in talking about the Apple
Cup being in nine days, but it's in nine days
and I think Wazoo man Texas Tech. Texas Tech gave
up a bunch of yards and points to Apple and
Christian last weekend. Give me a take on the matchup

(17:50):
in Pullman before the Apple Cup next Saturday.

Speaker 6 (17:53):
Well, I know where Mike Leach will be watching from
his from his guybox. He'll be this one, having coached
at both these places and having great memories at both
of them. This is a fun game. Joey Maguire, the
head coach at Texas Tech, is luckier than heck that
they got out of there, out of that game with

(18:14):
Abilene Christian with a victory. Abilene was going for two
and ended up missing it. They get sacked and the
last play of the game, which cost them their chance
to win the game. But to me, Washington State's got
a heck of a chance, and both Washington State and
Oregon State got out of the box path trying to
prove that they still belong Empowered five. In Power four Conversations, Well, Rick.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
Nel Hazel with us from CBS to get a Taco
Time pick of the week. In a matter of minutes,
we got Factor of Fiction, brought to by the emeral
Quick Casino coming up at three thirty five.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
Honestly, how much trouble?

Speaker 2 (18:49):
How hot is Billy Napi your seat in Florida, And
you know there's a lot of Husky fans keeping an
eye on that job for an obvious reason.

Speaker 6 (18:57):
Yeah, he's in trouble. I mean, the good news is
there's twenty seven million reasons why to keep him right,
because that's what his buyout is. But that's a poor performance.
It was kind of non competitive. Now he does get
a backup quarterback to get a chance to play this week,

(19:19):
one of their star recruits, which might be one of
those things that he could really use. We'll wait and
see if that turns out to be a good thing
for him. DJ Lagway. We'll get a chance to start
this week and maybe show something and flash something so
that people look forward to the future. But with the
schedule that they have, it's going to be hard to
get to six wins. And if he's underneath that misses

(19:43):
a Bowl game again, then they're going to be talking.
And Scott Strickland, the ad there is going to be
under a lot of pressure to find another guy and
to find a way to finance the whole thing, which
just boggles the mind.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
Yeah, well, you know who QB three is in Gainesville,
don't you? You're aware of that? No, tell me kid
named Clay Millon from Sloqualmie, Washington.

Speaker 6 (20:06):
Clay Clay's in uh in Georgia, in Florida, now huh.
Holy But wish you well and happy about the ready
because QB one is not available this.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
Week, No, no question, he's QB two for this game.
But Rick new Heisler, Curtesy Attackle talk about your pick
of the week in a second. But Man, Colorado North
Dakota State last weekend, I'll be honest with you, I
was rooting for the Bison hard to win that game.
I thought that would have been the funniest damp thing
in the world for Deion Sanders to ban a ryd
or talk all kinds of mess and then go out
and lose to North Dakota State.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
Would you make a what you saw from Colorado?

Speaker 2 (20:42):
Man?

Speaker 1 (20:42):
Their defense got pushed around a bit.

Speaker 6 (20:45):
Colorado doesn't look much different from last year other than
they've got their receivers all healthy. Right now. You know,
Travis Hunter is obviously a bona fide player. Jimmy Horn
Junior is a really good player. They got this kid
from Florida Atlantic, Legonte Wester, who's also a good player.
You could take the quarterback and those three and say

(21:05):
you've got your USA Olympic team seven on seven guys
for twenty twenty eight, and we'd win. We'd win a
gold medal. But that's not the game. And there's going
to be no more fervent fan base than those in
Nebraska who are dying to be back in a conversation
when we're talking about big time programs. They've been away

(21:28):
from the Bowl seats since twenty sixteen. That's third longest
in the FBS, tied with New Mexico. That's Nebraska we're
talking about. And they get a home game against the
prime Effect. It's going to be something to watch. I
pick Big Red.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
I love it all right, Rick, before you go zero
to two last week with Jacksonville State and Clemson, we're
due for a comeback.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
Baby Taco Time Pick of the Week.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
I'm gonna go my favorite, the natural Chicken soft Taco,
Chris Beef Burrito medium, Coke zero, my old favorite. Nothing changes.
I'm a man of a habit. Who do you like
this week for your talk About Time Pick of the week.

Speaker 6 (22:07):
Last week, I was atrocious and I have no excuses.
This week, I'll be picky. This week, I'll be picky
and I'm taking Cotal Nicky Wow. Andy coteal Niki is
the new offensive coordinator at Penn State.

Speaker 1 (22:21):
YEP.

Speaker 6 (22:22):
They started last week on the road in Morgantown. Flexed
had some big plays. Drew Aller, their star quarterback, who
was you know, an underachiever a little bit when it
came to big plays, the average less than seven yards
in attempt. Last year, he goes for over twelve yards
into temp had three touchdown passes. That was on the road.

(22:43):
Now they go home. They're against Bowling Green. I think
they take Bowling Green to the woodshed. The over is
forty eight. You can go on the over that. I
think you'd be wise to do that, But take and
lay the thirty two. This is going to be Penn
State and I will in a one sided affair.

Speaker 1 (23:01):
I got thirty five. Now are you cool that thirty five?

Speaker 6 (23:06):
Thirty five is the number? Now, yeah, we got to
go with it. I saw thirty two and a half.
Shop make sure you get what you can get. But
I'm telling you that this is going to be one side.

sense for us to.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
Well, I'm gonna pick tomorrow and Jackson's got a couple
of games, So we'll let Jackson go tomorrow because I
really want us to get this one. I'm actually I'm
actually shocked that nobody's grabbed it so far. To be
totally honest with you, Uh, Texas Tech last Saturday, gave
up fifty one points to Applelene Christian in overtime. I

(24:54):
swore to God, I thought Aplene Christian was like a
high school team.

Speaker 1 (24:57):
I had no idea.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
I mean they are Usian State is back home in
Pullman taking on Texas Tech. I got a couple buddies
going out to the game. They can smell two and oh.
Heading into the Apple Cup. They got a big time
power for team coming to town in Texas Tech who
got pushed around by Abilene Freakin' Christian. Johnny Football, Johnny

(25:18):
matiir is gonna go bananas on the Texas Tech defense.
Give her to Coogs minus the two and a half

minus the points against Texas Tech is the play.

Speaker 1 (25:32):
Let's do it. Let's go two and oh.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
Let's see the Huskies go two and oh, and let's
have a war at the Apple Cup next Saturday.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
Softy, I see what you're doing.

Speaker 3 (25:41):
I give you a hard hat tip and say, well
played served. But listen, at the end of the day,
I think you your reasoning makes sense for a Washington
State win. I wouldn't dare root for that to happen,
but at the.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
Samon's rooting for it to happen. I don't give it. Damn.
I want the Cougars at two and oh.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
I want the Huskies at two and oh because I
want this to be a I want this thing to
have some juice next Saturday.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
Man, maybe now it's got none.

Speaker 3 (26:04):
Maybe this is a larger conversation. But even though we're
in different conferences now, I still can't bring myself to
ever root for the guys.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
I get it, I get it.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
Well, you know what, when you realize that Washington State
plays in a junior college league, will be able to
re for.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
I'm takeing Wazoo and the points.

Speaker 2 (26:18):
Give me the Buggers minus the two and a half
against the Pirates against Texas Tech the Mike Leach Bowl,
Texas Tech versus Wazoo, and the Cougs won't just win.
They're gonna thump them on Saturday. They're gonna thump them.
They're gonna whoop them, says at least Woodword. Cougs minus
the points big Thanks to the emeral Quien Casino Factor

Speaker 1 (26:50):
What you think of the select Seawan.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
We're here at the Emerald Queen for the game tonight
as well Ravens in Kansas City. The Mariners have won
and they're four and a half games out. There's a
sucker born every minute, and apparently I'm one of them. Man,
I just can't.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
I can't walk away. I cannot walk away. I wanted
the GM fire, the manager fired, and I can't walk away.

Speaker 2 (27:11):
Brett Boone's gonna join us courtesy of Venue Kings Next
on ninety three three KJRF.

Speaker 8 (27:16):
Coming to you live from our Elliot Avenue studios of
Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM. It's time for
our weekly conversation with former Mariners all star Brett Boone,
brought to you by Venue Kings. Visit venue Kings dot
com for all your ticket needs. Now with Booney, here's
Softian Dick.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
All right, boys and girls, here we go live from
the Emerald Quing Casino getting ready for Kansas City and Baltimore,
the NFL opener. We got Eagles, we got Packers tomorrow
from Brazil, both games right here on KJR. But the Mariners,
Man Jackson, I told you last segment, there's a sucker
born every minute, including me. I just can't keep my

(27:58):
eye off the standings. Reds lose or excuse me, the
Astros lose one nothing to Cincinnati. Mariners beat the A
six to four. Mariners have actually gained a couple of games.
They've gone from six and a half to four and
a half, and here we go. They just keep sucking
us back in. Brett Boone joining us right now. Courtesy
Avenue Kings dot com. How are you pale?

Speaker 9 (28:18):
What's going on? Softy?

Speaker 1 (28:19):
Oh man?

Speaker 2 (28:21):
They just keep sucking me back in. Dude, I just
can't quit them. I don't know what it is. Maybe
I just expect the Astros to take a dump at
some point. But Cardinals are coming to town this weekend.
Mariners are four and a half. Is it time to
believe at all that these guys might actually be able
to make this a race?

Speaker 1 (28:36):
Before it's all said and done.

Speaker 9 (28:38):
You've got to believe that.

Speaker 10 (28:41):
Being said, it is a very heavy lift right now.

Speaker 9 (28:45):
But Astros just get swept, you know. Yeah, I didn't
see that coming. And A's are hot. They beat them
one game, they come back and.

Speaker 10 (28:52):
Beat them the next two, So yeah, they're alive.

Speaker 11 (28:54):
I mean, if you can get to September twenty, I
think it's the twenty third where they have a series
with Astros to two or three games, you can kind
of put it on yourself and say we control our
own destiny.

Speaker 10 (29:05):
But you know you've got to be at that point,
come to twenty third. But at this stage, these guys
are in there and they look today and they said,
after one lost, we won.

Speaker 9 (29:14):
That's two in a row. We just gaining two backs.

Speaker 11 (29:16):
So there's no hope lost in that clubhouse yet, right,
But me looking at it realistically, it's a heavy lift.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
Yeah, September twenty third at the Astros. So we'd like
that series to be here, but it's down there. What
about this Cardinal team that's coming to town starting tomorrow, Brett,
what do you make of them?

Speaker 9 (29:33):
I think you know they're okay.

Speaker 10 (29:35):
I mean the Mariners they've had their trouble with with
sub five hundred teams. I mean, they've played at the level.
I look at the Yankees, They've done the same thing
the last month. They've they've lost all their series to
sub five hundred teams. Coming Cardinals aren't so I don't
know what.

Speaker 11 (29:50):
Their records are now, but probably right around with the
Mariners are decent team.

Speaker 10 (29:55):
I think playing them at home it should be this
is this is at this stage, Softie, I think.

Speaker 11 (30:01):
It's every series is muscle, and I think that's what
they look at here. This Cardinal team isn't anything special.

Speaker 9 (30:07):
They're decent.

Speaker 6 (30:08):
That's all they are.

Speaker 9 (30:08):
They're decent.

Speaker 10 (30:09):
He can't be the decent ones you can be in
the postseason.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
Well, Julio hit another bomb today, What do you think
Edgar's telling him? What's what's Egar Martinez telling Julio Rodriguez
to get his mind right and they get his swing right?

Speaker 1 (30:22):
What would you tell him?

Speaker 2 (30:23):
Because I would assume that you and Edgar would be
kind of the same ILK as far as what your
instructions to Julio would be.

Speaker 10 (30:29):
Well, the mental side is you live and you learned,
and that only comes with experience. But from a physical side,
he needs to get his top hand out of the swing.
And I've been watching them all year that's what it's been.
He's been top hand dominant. In baseball, you had to
be bottom hand dominant, and he's had that top hand
and as a result, he's been in between pitches all year.
You see him a lot late on the heater, early

(30:50):
on the break the ball, and I think that's what
Edgar's telling him. Get the top hand out. He's probably
doing a lot of bottom hand drills and a lot
of the drills that Edgar used to do. But the bottom
line is when the game starts.

Speaker 9 (31:02):
Get you in that picture, and it's not you're hitting.

Speaker 1 (31:07):
Are you walking down the fairway right now? Or away
from the tea box?

Speaker 10 (31:11):
I just walked off the pudding green normally, Normally I'm
in a good position, you guys, Okay, I was caught between.

Speaker 9 (31:21):
I said, I can do the golf course.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
God, it's so obvious. Man, you're keeping it down.

Speaker 10 (31:25):
But you know, you know, you know what's awesome about
it is.

Speaker 9 (31:33):
I was trying to fool you. I was seen if
you could be fool, but you can't be fool. It's clear.

Speaker 1 (31:38):
It's clear as day. Are you kidding me? It's not
even close.

Speaker 10 (31:42):
Two days ago, I was sitting there, I'm thinking of
thinking a softy and dick, and the way it was going,
I'm thinking it's just gonna be Loopanella stories.

Speaker 9 (31:49):
Anyway, I might as well be on the golf course.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
That's right, Well, that's right.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Did you have one of mine that you want to
Did you have one of mine that you want to
share with us before you take off?

Speaker 1 (31:59):
Go ahead?

Speaker 9 (31:59):
What the I was trying to think? What lose story?
Haven't I told?

Speaker 10 (32:05):
All right?

Speaker 9 (32:05):
I got one for you.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
I got for you.

Speaker 10 (32:08):
My rookie rookie year in nineteen ninety three, lose the
new skipper me and him hate each other.

Speaker 9 (32:14):
Takes me on a backfield.

Speaker 10 (32:15):
He says, Boone, we got to utilize more of your power.

Speaker 11 (32:19):
They threw me balls on field four for I'm talking
forty five minutes straight.

Speaker 9 (32:24):
I'm twenty three years old.

Speaker 10 (32:25):
I can handle it.

Speaker 9 (32:26):
I had to hit one hundred homers that day.

Speaker 10 (32:29):
Wow, I want to see you pop one pull it.

Speaker 9 (32:31):
Come on, Boone, I wanted to see you hit some homers.

Speaker 10 (32:35):
I get into the game.

Speaker 9 (32:36):
About a week later, we're playing.

Speaker 10 (32:38):
A situation comes up and I hit a ball to
the shortstop, you know, and they're asking me because I
was there apparent to what Harold Reynolds at the time,
I said, what says Booney, He goes, well, I need
to get Boonie to start hitting the ball the other
way better, I said, Lou, we just went to field for.

Speaker 9 (32:56):
And you made me pull every ball over the fence.
You're telling it there.

Speaker 10 (33:01):
So that's how it started with me and Lou in
the rest of the history.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
I love it all right.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
Well, hopefully we won't need those next week because the
m's will stay relevant. Like you said, man, just get
to the Astros series and make that worthwhile.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Hey, get your ass on the first tea. We're talking
a week all right, man, you got it, guys, Thank you?
All right, Bud Brett boone with us man trying to hide?
Are you kidding me? Playing as creaking day, plain as day.
We're gonna break.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
Mike Holmgren's gonna join us next segment, and then Kevin
Harlan is in the booth at Arrowhead Stadium for Baltimore,
Kansas City. He'll join us at four twenty eight. We're
