The Mariners just suck right now.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Six nothing times, top of the seventh from T Mobile Park.
Bryce Miller threw forty pitches in the first inning. By
the way, Gabe Speier appealing a three game suspension for
throwing at Glibert Torres yesterday. Dan Wilson ejected also suspended
one game today. He is not managing manny actors in
his spot. And by the way, just as we say
(01:20):
that seven nothing tigers, do I hear eight?
Speaker 4 (01:24):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Anybody want to go eight?
Speaker 5 (01:25):
He'll get there.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
We make it nine?
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Do I hear nine? I mean, what the hell we're
giving runs away? Why not just make it one hundred
to nothing and be done with it. Pop up the
hairball and move on.
Speaker 5 (01:33):
Will Cox is on the mound. You're bound to get
a couple of more terrible.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Colts have given running back Jonathan Taylor a two year
extension worth forty four million and thirty nine guaranteed, and
that moved the Lions to sign running back Jamiir Gibbs
three years, sixty seven million, including fifty one guaranteed, making
him the highest paid running back in the league.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Hall of Fame.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Game, by the way is tonight in Canton, Ohio, Carolina
and Arizona here that game over on nine to fifty am.
Dallas and the Seahawks preseason next Saturday, Looming Field, August
the fifteenth, and preseason game number one of three. We
got a lot to get to. We're gonna do the
old switch areno and a lot of stuff. First of all,
(02:13):
Jerry Brewer will join us at five o'clock tonight. Scott
Ecklin from dog Man Right Nick will join us at
four pm. Olyneus Davis will join us as well, coming
up around six pm.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
You know what number of Lineus is wearing by.
Speaker 5 (02:27):
The way over at you different tackles.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
We're in the same number he war a year ago,
which was if you remember number ninety, Steve Eman's number.
About that, so we'll talk to Alineus about that honor.
You got a Lineus Davis wearing number ninety and Demon
Williams were number one. So those are maybe two of
the most famous numbers in Husky football history. Steve Etman,
Warren Moon, you could argue maybe the best two players
ever in Husky football history. But whatever, Linneus Davis will
(02:52):
join us at six and I'm trying to delay the
inevitable and talk about this horse crap game we have
going on.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Right now.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
They're streaming out of the eggs across the three Street,
these streaming.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
These four gals that are sitting to our left. They've
been here for like an hour. I think they just
said the hell well that after the first inning, came
over here and started drinking.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
And you know what, I'd love to see the Mariners do.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
And I realize it's easy for me to say this
because it's not my money, right, I get it, Okay,
But I would absolutely love for a game like this,
and for a game like was it Tuesday night they
gotta bet eight and nothing? Yes, game when Sara Anthony
Dominguez at maybe the worst debut of a Mariner Woliver ever.
I would love to see John Stanton call all of
(03:32):
the minority owners that are in attendance. Maybe he even
calls some of the executives, maybe some of the marketing people,
Greg Green and Kevin Martinez whatever, and saya, right, here's
what we're gonna do. Uh, Tim, you take the left
field entrance, Kevin you take the right field entrance, Greg,
you take home plate. I'll be at the sweets and
here's a bag of money. We're gonna refund people for
this crap they saw today. How great would that be, right,
(03:54):
How great would that be if they just said, you
know what, we're sorry, this is not.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
What we thought we would be seeing out of the deadline.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
I mean, dude, the Mariners, they have scored since Monday's
deadline four runs in three games, and it's now the
top all of them in the same game, all of
them the same game, and all of them against a
team that here's the embarrassing part. And I said this
to Hugh yesterday. They're going up against a team that
threw the towel.
Speaker 5 (04:18):
In Oh you mean we didn't go against Scooble in
this series?
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Oh well, man, I thought for sure that we didn't
score any runs in two of the games.
Speaker 5 (04:25):
We must have gone against Trek Scooball.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
They're going up against a team that has said the
hell with it, and the Orioles are in front of him.
They got rid of Rushman, they got rid of Taylor Ward.
They're saying the hell with it. So I mean, look
at all these people, Dude, they're just leaving like we're
not staying for this crap. I don't care if there's
a raccoon with spina biffita walking around the freaking ballpark.
We're not doing that, man, We're out of here. I mean,
this is embarrassing. This is even more embarrassing, I think
(04:49):
than on Monday than on Tuesday night. You know why,
because you had Tuesday night to motivate you. You had Tuesday
night to have a player's only meeting, to look in
the mirror, just have a you know, coming to Jesus
Kumbaya type conversation, like what the hell is going on?
Speaker 2 (05:04):
This is another game?
Speaker 1 (05:05):
And but if you saw the home run in the
first inning, I was watching on TV when I went
over there for about an hour. I mean, Julio, we
love you, but could you try to make a play
for God's sakes? Like I know it hit the no
fly zone sign. You're probably not gonna get to it,
but happened a little effort. Man. So what I said
yesterday when you were gone to Hugh Dick is that, look,
if you would have woken up today and the ball
(05:25):
club would have won, I don't know. Let's just say
they won twelve of fifteen games, and they climbed within
two and a half games the first place on the
sixth of August. He'd be like, let's go right, this
is great, We're on a run. We're playing good baseball.
But they're not doing that. They're playing uninspired, terrible baseball.
They looked like a carcass. For God's sakes, out there,
(05:46):
no energy whatsoever. I still believed up until a week ago,
and I still kind of do that there's a run
coming at some point. But time's running out, dude. We
got what forty six games left to go?
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Oh after today? I mean, there's no goofing around anymore.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
You can't sit here and afford to have games like this,
and even more so when you consider who they're playing
in the next what eighteen games?
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Nineteen games?
Speaker 1 (06:14):
I mean, dude, you might be playing six of the
seven best teams in baseball, or six of the best
eight teams in baseball in the next nineteen games, Tampa,
the Yankees, Milwaukee, Chicago, Philadelphia, and oh, by the way,
the one series that's not on that list is a
team that's leading your division right now, in the Astros.
(06:36):
So you got to figure it out, and you got
to figure it out fast. Or as I said yesterday, Dick,
this is going to be one of the I think
biggest waste of talent that this baseball team has ever
had in any one individual year.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
This is one of the biggest waste of talent this
city has ever had. And we are going to have
that conversation in September. If they do not make the playoffs,
we will look back at the greatest teams as far
as preseason expectations.
Speaker 5 (06:59):
This team was coming off of eight outs from.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
The World Series and puts up this type of stinker
where right now looks squarely at a seventy five to
eighty win baseball team.
Speaker 5 (07:10):
I mean, and I.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Know, we have these games like last night that kind
of get us thinking, well, maybe you can build on that,
and honestly, I you know, I get sucked into it too.
I saw the lineup they put out yesterday. I was like,
you know, this looks like a pretty good lineup. And
then I sit down and I watched the game and
I'm like, dom can Zone throws a bullet to second base,
and then Randy A. Rose Arena makes a great play
(07:32):
and he throws at the third back. I'm like, wait
a second, look at this. We're starting to get But
the problem is, those are the exceptions.
Speaker 5 (07:40):
This year to the rule.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Last year, the rule was they played clean baseball and
then occasionally they played sloppy baseball and couldn't hit the baseball.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
This year it's the other way around.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
Occasionally they get a couple home runs like they did
from Julio and Colet yesterday and play good defense. But
the rule is what we saw Tuesday and what we
saw today, whereas if you don't hit a home run,
you cannot win well.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
And the other part of that that you're missing is
that Hancock and Miller look like crap in those two games.
I mean, you know, Bryce Miller for the most part
has been pretty damn good, as has Emerson Hancock. But
they're at a point now where if they're starting pitching,
doesn't baby their ass, If they literally don't stick the
boob in the mouth of the offense, they're not eating
you get my points. I mean, they are literally children
(08:30):
on offense when it comes to this pitching staff, unless
the guys go out and just come. I mean even
yesterday with the way Brian wu pitched, who's totally different
at home, Like on the road, he's you know, Jamal Adams.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
On home, he's Cam Chancelly, right, and even that.
Speaker 5 (08:45):
Was a struggle. Even that was a struggle.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
That you finally had to get that big three run
bomb from Julio Rodriguez to make it happen.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
So, guys, this is just it's getting grosser by the day.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
And I just sent this out on Twitter that I
just I from my own personal well being, and really,
let's face facts, it's all about me. I need someone
to lose their you know what in the clubhouse tonight.
I need someone to lose their mind with the media.
You know, it's not gonna be Dan Wilson because he's
not managing the game today. I don't know if Manny
Acta even feels comfortable doing that.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
Doesn't have to be somebody that's leadership. Well, that's the
problems already playing well.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
The only guy that it could be is you know,
a Randy A Rose arena, and Randy A Rose Arena
looks like you could. He couldn't give a damn either.
He can't wait until October. You know, he had a
great defensive game last night, But my god, I mean,
you you play one hundred games, you're gonna have one
game where you stand out and look like a decent
left fielder. And he looked like that last night, So
I have no idea who that guy's gonna be. Really,
it probably should be cal Raleigh, even though he's not
(09:42):
playing well. I would say cal Raleigh. I would say
even a guy like Josh Naylor, who was not typically
outspoken about anything, if he did that, I think that
would resonate because it doesn't happen very often. But I
would like to see some leadership. I'd like to see
one of these guys across the street tonight assemble the
media and just air out everybody and make sure that
(10:02):
the fan base and the media understands that they're just
as pissed off about this as we are. Because what's
gonna happen. You're going to continue to hear the same
stuff over and over again because the perception is reality.
By the way, it's eight nothing now, and the perception
is that these guys just don't give a frog's you
know what, Well, I'm tired of watching it, man, I'm
sick of.
Speaker 5 (10:22):
There's no question about it.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
And you know, when we saw what we saw in
ninety five was refused to lose, and that permeated the
entire clubhouse and permeated the entire city. If that team
got down and not just ninety five two thousand and
two thousand and one, two thousand and two, if that
team got down four to one in the fourth, right,
not only did you think you were going to come back,
you knew you were going to come back. Right When
(10:43):
this team gets down four to one, you know the
ballgame is over.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
I gotta tell you what we might want to do
here is take some calls, honestly, because I'm at a
point now and you I don't want to speak for you,
but I assume you might be too. Or I'm just
tired of saying the same thing over and over again,
you know, like with Panela, I'm tired of it. I'm
tired saying the same thing over and over again. I mean, really, like,
this is just getting stupid, right, Like, I'm fifty three
on Monday. I've been doing this for thirty years. I've
(11:08):
been watching this team my entire life, and this is
just who we are.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
And I'm sick of it.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Man, I am sick and tired of going on the
air losing my ever loving mind nine out of every
ten years. I'm tired of this team kicking me in
the nuts. I'm tired of this team acting like clowns
when they should be acting like pros.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
I'm tired of the ownership.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
I'm tired of the entire thing giving us the vibe
and the perception that they really just don't have the
same fire as I do to see this team in
a world series. So I'm just kind of tired, man, Dick.
Do you know what I mean when I say I'm tired.
I am tired, man, I am freaking tired of all
of this. So you want to jump on share your thoughts?
(11:44):
How would you change this? Do heads roll right now?
You want to fire Dan Wilson tonight? I don't give
a damn fire Dan Wilson tonight. Then we got a
freaking home run derby tomorrow along with WILLI being a DJ.
You think anybody's in the mood for that?
Speaker 5 (11:56):
All fun?
Speaker 1 (11:56):
If they get their ass kick tomorrow by Tampa Bay
and they're out there goofing around, Julio is out there
spinning records. Seriously, that's the time we're gonna do this.
You know what I'm calling it right now? Cancel the
home run derby, Cancel the fifties celebration. No fun until
these guys figure it out. Nobody's allowed to have any
fun until these guys pull their heads out of their ass.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
How's outside, it's it's all about what your aspirations are.
And some franchises, and you know who they are in
every sport, some franchises have championship aspiration, right, And what
happens if you have a championship aspiration and fall short, Well,
you're still a playoff team.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
You're still a good team. But when you have the
aspiration to be just competitive, and we've heard it from their.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
Mouths fifty four percent their aspirations are to just be competitive.
Out of your guy, Jarrett, and when you fall short
of just competitive, this is what you get.
Speaker 5 (12:51):
A seventy five to eighty win baseball team.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
That's your guy, to Poto, you want to fire him
too if they miss the playoffs. I mean, here, here's
the thing. I think overall, Jerry has a lot of
good things, there's no question about it. But the only
one thing that matters is winning championships and playing for championships.
Like I don't think that that should change because of
the last forty nine years. You know, you and I
have talked about that that this team deserves to not
(13:15):
be judged by failures of the past. Right, what happened
thirty years ago is not their fault. But that is
a statement of mediocrity that if I were the owner,
I would have pulled him aside and said, that's not
what we're doing here. We don't do that here. We
don't portray that we're looking to be mediocre. We're looking
to win titles. And the fear is is that that's
(13:37):
not how they think at the top either. Okay, so look,
this is obviously a crazy year. If we just let
cooler heads prevail for a second, nobody could have foreseen
this many guys going into the toilet at the same time,
cal Roley Naylor Julio is having a really down year
for him. This pictures well right, WU stinks on the road.
(14:00):
Rice Miller as of late, has been terrible. He's starting
to fall apart a little bit. And I just think,
you know, I can't help but think, Dick, this piggyback
thing that you and I have been talking about the
entire year, and I mean, you know where I've stood
on this. I've hated it from the start, and I
just wonder how much it goofed with their brains, how
much it messed around with their continuity creatures a habit,
(14:21):
you know, and.
Speaker 5 (14:21):
They weren't dialed in in April and may either.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Right for Piggy, but the idea of getting them back
on track maybe they really kind of didn't do them
any favors. And then you get to a game where
Logan's supposed to have a piggyback and they decide the
morning of that we're going to change that. Let's just
do something different. I mean, the whole thing has been
really a joke from the start. And I said this
last week. I'll say it again that I think that
(14:44):
the piggyback thing, the six man rotation, if they don't
make the playoffs, is going to go down as just
another clown show and the circus that's been mayor of
baseball and it hasn't worked, and nothing that they're doing
is working, and they just look like they're lifeless. So
I want to grab some calls two eight six, ninety five,
ninety five or eight hundred eight, two nine or nine five. Oh,
(15:04):
I want you to vent a little bit here. You
tell us how you would fix this. What you would
do is all hope lost, right.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
I mean, we're gonna be.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Three out after today, because the Astros and Rangers had
the day off, and you got murderer's mother fing row
coming up starting tomorrow with Tampa, the Yankees, Houston, Milwaukee,
Chicago who might have the MVP, and PCA maybe that,
and then Philadelphia.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
We looked at we looked during the break. They're no
different against bad teams than they are against good.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
Team They're nineteen and twenty two against teams that are
above five hundred. The problem is you can't play five
hundred anymore. You gotta go on a run. You got three, six,
nine to twelve, you got nineteen games. I mean, Dick,
you're looking for a twelve and seven type run, if
not thirteen and six, and that's gonna be hard to
do against these guys. So you tell us, Jess, let's
grab calls, all right, next segment, Okay, two eight six,
(15:53):
ninety five, ninety five eight hundred eight two nine or
nine five?
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Oh uh?
Speaker 1 (15:57):
You want to go off, you want to sound off,
you wanna black off, have at it, man, do it.
We'll get to it next on ninety three three kJ
R FM.
Speaker 3 (16:17):

Speaker 1 (16:38):
All right, we're back, Safty, Dick, jessemn macinthur back in
the studio. Jackson, I believe is back next week. By
the way, we gets back, he gets back. We got
some sounders conversation to have with all Jackson. Holy Holy,
that team is just falling apart. Speaking of falling apart,
Mariners not good today against the Tigers. And you know,
(17:00):
if I could just sum it up, man, it just
this team just makes me sad. They just make me sad.
I mean, was it how many months ago, Dick? Was
it like ten months ago that you and I were
sitting right here at Jimmy's on Monday night before the
Seahawk Texan game, watching game seven. I was over there
about to piss myself. You're sitting over here, We're.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
Mouthing seven outs eight hours. I was sitting in your
chair right there.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
I wouldn't move. I didn't move.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
I was like, as long as we were ahead. I
was not driving from the chair, wasn't going to the bathroom.
I wasn't doing anything right with ten.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Outs, And ever since then, it's just been just a
kick to the crotch by this team man.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Just Bryce Miller.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
The Mariners are gonna lose five in a row with
Bryce Miller on the mound five point eight one era
during those five for Bryce Millers. So what do you
say we flip it over the phone lines, all right?
Two eight, six, ninety five, ninety five, eight and eight, two, nine,
nine to five. Oh, let's start with James and Tacoma.
James will just say big boy.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (17:58):
August twenty twenty two, the Mayor's had a players only meeting.
They won fourteen in a row. August last year, Mayors
had a players only meeting, won seventeen to the next
eighteen games. They need to have a players only meeting now.
And also one thing that pisses me off is the
Mayors have scored thirty nine times this year. They had
(18:19):
not hit a home run. Although thirty nine games, they've
only won seven games. They gone seven to thirty two.
But he don't hit a home run?
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Yeah, Well, we talked about this a year ago, right
that when you're hitting home runs, it's great. And they
were what were they ninth in home runs a year ago?
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Whatever?
Speaker 1 (18:39):
It was, sorry, third in home runs day, and now
they're fifteenth, twenty eighth in runs this year. There were
ninth last year. When you have a baseball team that
is so dependent on the long ball, when that goes away,
you're seeing what happens. And this is why we had
the conversation about Cayl Rowley versus Aaron Judge that, look,
I mean, we all loved the season Cal, but it
(19:00):
was magical. I was there the night that he hit sixty.
I think you were there too. I'll never forget it.
I'll never forget being in the building for a guy
that hits his sixtieth home run and the team wins
the division. I don't think that's ever happened, by the way,
in the history of baseball, where a guy is hitting
number sixty on the same night that a team clinches
their division. And I was lucky enough to be there,
So I'll never forget that. But if you take away
(19:20):
the bombs for cow, he's just not the overall thorough
hitter that a guy like an Aaron Judges and now
you're seeing a guy that's a one trick pony who's
not doing his trick and they're paying dearly for it.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Dick Dearly.
Speaker 5 (19:32):
Hope is not a game plan.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
And it feels like the Mariners are just hoping when
they go to the ballpark that they will hit home
runs because they have no other plan. Do you think
Mike McDonald when the Seahawks couldn't run the ball last
year in the first two months of the season, his
plan with Clint Kubiak was, well, I hope this next
game will be able to run the football. No, they
adjusted basketball coaching. Do think do I walk out and
(19:58):
just say, well, I hope that I can hit a
we can hit a three, because if we can't hit
a three this game, we got no prayer of winning
the basketball game. No, you have to make adjustments and
there is no efforts to manufacture runs on this baseball team.
Speaker 5 (20:11):
Whats soever.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
I don't know if they can do it, honestly, because
they didn't have to do it a year ago. And
I do think that there needs to be look if
they missed the playoffs, and I think that there are
certain commentaries, if you will, that can wait until the
end of the year. Larry was on with us yesterday
and he was exactly right that if they missed the playoffs,
it's hard to imagine Dan coming back. That's what we think.
(20:32):
I don't know what Stanton thinks. I don't know what
the front office thinks. They may feel like, hey, he's
a great guy, we.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Love him, you know.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
Logan Gilbert was on with us and said how much
he loves the guy blah blah blah. So whether or
not they do pull the plug is obviously a different thing.
You give him the forty seven games at this point
you see what happens, right, But I do think that
in the end there is room for criticism for sure
of Jerry. I mean, so far, the criticism feels like
(20:59):
it's been mostly reserved for Dan and what you just said,
if he's built the roster that is again just totally
way too dependent on the home run ball. That's a
reflection of the guys that are putting this thing together.
Who's next, Let's go out to uh, I'm sorry, I
lost my list, Kyle and Kyle you're on the air.
Speaker 6 (21:17):
Go ahead, oh man.
Speaker 7 (21:20):
Ownership fat and happy, and I think it's trickled all
the way down to the players, fat and happy. You
got Julio's a DJ.
Speaker 6 (21:28):
Now, when did that happen?
Speaker 5 (21:30):
Tomorrow?
Speaker 2 (21:31):
On guys, tomorrow, I know it.
Speaker 7 (21:33):
I know it. So I'm going to a Mariners game
in Milwaukee in two weeks.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
Guess what I'm buying.
Speaker 7 (21:39):
I'm buying a Milwaukee hat.
Speaker 5 (21:40):
I'm tired of these guys.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
Don't do that.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
No, don't be that guy, you know, don't be that.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
I disagree with you, Dick. I think you do whatever
the hell you want. I get your point. But to me,
any theory, any way that you want to get through this,
any way that you feel like you can survive getting
through this, man, I'd say go for And I do
remember asking it was two years ago in twenty twenty
four when the Mariners blew that ten game lead with
the best dra in the major leagues and they couldn't
(22:08):
even make the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
You know, like, what are we doing this for? Honestly?
Like why?
Speaker 1 (22:13):
I mean, we could pick any team we want to
root for. Hell, we can all be Giant fans or
you know, Dodger fans or whatever people that were here
before seventy six or whatever. It can jump on whatever
damn wagon.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
They want.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
I mean, I'm not doing that because I'm just an
idiot and I'm gonna come back and just continue taking a.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Beating every year by these guys.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
But I do think there's people out there that are
asking themselves, after fifty years of this, what are we doing? Like,
why are we even making this our team? Is it
time to maybe root for somebody else? And when you
have those conversations, it's painful as hell to have. Then
they go back and they do something like that a
year ago, and they suck you back in. How they
win a series, they suck it back in. So I'm
not gonna judge anybody for being pissed off and anybody
(22:54):
for deciding to take any angle or any way to.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Get through this. Whatever works for you. Freaking do it?
Speaker 5 (23:01):
Man?
Speaker 2 (23:01):
Have that?
Speaker 5 (23:01):
Would that really work?
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Though?
Speaker 4 (23:03):
No?
Speaker 5 (23:03):
Nothing more?
Speaker 4 (23:03):
Is that just they made you feel better because you
buy a Brewers hat to think a team you've never
even paid any attention.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
To, maybe it will make you feel better.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
Right, maybe for five minutes you'll feel better because you'll
feel like you're rooting for a pretty damn good baseball team.
I mean, two thousand and one was twenty five years ago.
Twenty five years ago, like that's a quarter century has
gone by since two thousand and one. That guy that
just called the show, he might be in his early thirties.
He may have no idea what the hell two thousand
and one was all.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
Twenty twenty five was last year, of course.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
But then they go out in the Alcy go out
and they do this right.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
I mean, look, we got people wanting to fire the manager,
fire the GM, fire the president of the Baseball operations.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Pissed off you are.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
And we talked about this with Larry yesterday too, Dick,
when you weren't here, I was actually wrong. Larry was
right that they made the playoffs in twenty two, should
have made it in twenty three, should have made it
in twenty four, made it in twenty five, and should
be in contention for way more than this. Right now,
You got the number one ERA two years ago in
the majors, You had the number one ERA in the
(24:00):
American League the year before that. You made it in
twenty two, you made it last year, and now the
gift from the god just the worst division in baseball
and you can't even take advantage of it. We should
be talking about this team making it five years.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
In a row.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
I go back again to the goals and the franchise expectations,
and the franchise expectations are to be just good enough.
And if your franchise expectations are to be just good enough,
you're not gonna make the playoffs every year.
Speaker 5 (24:23):
You know what you're gonna do.
Speaker 4 (24:23):
You're gonna make the playoffs every other year, which is
basically what they've done the last five years.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Nick is in Bonnie Lake. Nick, you're on the air.
The floor is yours back. Go for.
Speaker 6 (24:35):
Hey, softy.
Speaker 7 (24:37):
Yes, I just want to say, Jerry Depoto needs to
get fired. Dan Wilson needs to get fired. That's all
I need to say. I say it to you on
social media all the time, and I'm saying on the
radio all the time, Dick, you are wrong and you
need to apologize. You blocked me.
Speaker 5 (24:52):
Man, you're wrong the whole time.
Speaker 7 (24:54):
You're wishy washy about the Mariners.
Speaker 6 (24:56):
That's all I got to say.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
Don't block people. What did you do?
Speaker 5 (25:00):
What I have that?
Speaker 4 (25:01):
I swear to god, I have not blocked somebody in
like two years. So somebody's holding the grudge over something. Well,
and he didn't even describe what I was wrong about.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
I don't know, man, I just I mean, people are emotional,
people are pissed off, and I love it. I mean
that's that really is the whole thing about this is
that this city has had a right to just be
totally apathetic, and they don't become that way. They care,
they get angry, they call radio shows, they get pissed off.
And you know, the whole thing about last year and
you know, making Game seven of the ALCS, I mean, okay,
(25:34):
so how long do we sit around and kind of
wrap our hands around that? You know, is that something
that should buoy us for five ten years and we
start celebrating that team now like we did nineteen ninety five.
So I think what last year did for a lot
of people is it showed that the next step for
this team that everybody can agree on is making the
World Series, and anything less than that is completely unacceptable,
(25:58):
especially with this group. And look, they may bust this
group up over the offseason, Dick, right that, Gilbert.
Speaker 5 (26:06):
So we know probably one of those two starters.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
Is exactly So you're talking about, you know, this window
with these guys, it's now over, and now you're gonna
have to rely on other guys.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
I mean, Kate Anderson.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
We think it's gonna be a star, Sloan, we think
it's gonna be a star, all the guys they have
in the minor leagues.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
But you never know, well, you never know where this
is going.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
Here's the issue with firing both Dan and Jerry. You
still have an ownership whose goal is to fill the
stadium and to beat just good enough. So how is
that gonna help. I'm not saying we shouldn't fire Dan,
but how's it gonna help. How do we know that
if we bring another manager in, another general manager in
(26:46):
the culture of the franchise is going to change.
Speaker 5 (26:49):
We have no idea.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Probably won't.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
I mean, you're just talking about just doing the best
you can, right and again we're not in charge of this.
Obviously we should be, but we're not. You know, firing
the manager is just another band aid, you know, to
try to cover up the biggest wart of all, which
is an ownership group that doesn't seem to have that
big time Go to bed enraged when the team doesn't
play well, wake up dreaming about a world series. Doing
(27:16):
everything you can, selling your assets like I've made the
Cinderella Man reference before where you know Paul Giamatti was
the trainer for Russell Crowe when he sold everything he
owned in the movie so Russell crow could train everything
like he was down to a chair. That's how bad
he wanted it. And that's what I want from these guys.
And I guess I'm just asking for too much. We're
(27:37):
gonna break a little fun with audio right next on
ninety three three KJRFM.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
Ready for a little fun with audio slash? Did you
hear it? Always? Hey, Dick, did you happen to hear that?
Speaker 5 (28:58):
What's that? What's that? Dick?
Speaker 2 (29:00):
You say?
Speaker 1 (29:00):
We start with number five there jismin on First things first,
Nick Wright and Chris Barssard had a very strong reaction
the Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert and his fiance Madison Beer
hanging out at a training camp practice, apparently stroking each
other's hair and coming off like a couple of lovebirds.
Speaker 5 (29:18):
What is this? This is listen. I understand everyone wants
to be Travison Taylor. I get it. I don't blame you.
They never did this at the practice field. This is
what is happening here.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
And you know what, I'm not afraid of the Madison
Beer fan army because I've got the Swifties on my
side and they roll deeper than these folks.
Speaker 5 (29:42):
This is out.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
This is and you can't have more videos of your
girlfriend fixing your hair than playoff wins.
Speaker 5 (29:49):
When you were in the league seven years.
Speaker 8 (29:51):
You can't read Nick's right, we shouldn't lesson have been
a one And I like, justin Herbert, what what what
is this?
Speaker 4 (30:02):
They're sitting there stroking each other's hair on the field
after the game?
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Yeah, after practice, after practice, right, I mean I saw
the video. I'm like, whatever, I didn't have a big
problem with it. You thought it was too much? Too much?
Speaker 2 (30:17):
Uh, what's the what's the word for PDA? Too much?
Speaker 1 (30:20):
PDA quarterbacks should be a better leader than that. Shouldn't
be going on lovey dovey with your girlfriend. Is that
what you're saying.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
If I would have had a problem with it, if
it was my starting point guard who's seventeen years old
sitting in the gym with his girlfriend after a game,
I've been like, go to the go to a restaurant.
Speaker 5 (30:35):
Or come back to her houser.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
The difference with me is that that's commonplace though, because
families are on the field after practices.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
I mean, I saw Julian Love kissing his wife on
the cheek the other day, right, and hugging his wife
and kids are out there, so I don't have a
huge problem with it.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
I mean, the only question is how does it resonate
in the locker room? Right? That's the question is did
his teammates have a problem with it?
Speaker 1 (30:59):
And if his teammates didn't like the guy already, then
it's going to become a major issue. I get the
senses teammates like him and it won't be an issue.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
But I don't know that wasn't as worked up as
you were.
Speaker 5 (31:08):
From an I'm not as worked up as those guys were.
Speaker 4 (31:10):
But from a national perspective, if it's Patrick Mahomes, if
it's Sam Darnold, if it's somebody that's won a Super Bowl,
I think it's one thing, all right. Justin Herbert has
one nothing sure, and so he's gonna get scrutinized for
stuff like this.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
Didn't bother me, and it should bother me. The guys
a duck. I should be poking holes in every part
of his game. It didn't bother me at all. By
the way, never forget, never forget. Justin Herbert's first pass
as a starting quarterback was caught by who, Hey, Dick,
did you happen to hear that?
Speaker 5 (31:40):
What's that?
Speaker 2 (31:41):
Dick?
Speaker 1 (31:42):
Let's go to how about number four. Kind of a
fun side of baseball. There was a Phillies fan, Lewis Kolb,
who is a substitute teacher, won an auction to perform
an inning of play by play during the Phillies radio broadcast.
He got that chance in the third inning of Wednesday's
ten to four lost to the Nationals and absolutely knocked
(32:04):
it out of the park. We are headed to the
third inning, Phillies on top two to one, and we're
pleased to welcome Lewis.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
Kobb from Medford Lakes, New Jersey. He is our Phillies
fantastic auction winner. He outbid the competition to.
Speaker 9 (32:19):
Spend an inning and do some play by play in
the booth, and Louis welcome, glad to have you here.
Thank you Scunn. It's a thrilled to be here. It's
a lifelowing drain to be in the Phillies broadcast booth.
So here we go a painter. But the first pitch
to our teams that's in there for strike one call
fills with two in the bottom of the second to
take the lead.
Speaker 4 (32:40):
Right, and Lewis, you spent your life as a firefighter,
police officer.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
Neither of those things, just guessing.
Speaker 9 (32:50):
I've been a substitute teacher in recent years for Nita
School and Lakerland. There's a pitch and it's lying over
shortstop a base head for Dylan Cruz, and he reached
his first space safely with the one out single.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
About that, I'm believing you just turned the broadcast on
me at all. That's the play by play guy the
Philly unless you knew the Phillies radio crew. But if
you and I were like driving around Philadelphia.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
I mean, first of all, I thought it was the
first thing I thought, is that's a young guy doing
an impression of an older guy, right, But I thought
it was like Will Ferrell doing Harry Carey on the
Phillies broadcast crew. And then I thought to myself, well,
there's got to be an opening around baseball.
Speaker 5 (33:28):
Hire the guy.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
Now, he's unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
Can you imagine if the Mariners did that? If the
Mariners had an auction to go on the air and
do an inning, let's hand it over to Bob Sanders
from Bellingham.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
These guys suck.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
I fire everybody, cow pull your head out of your ass, Julio,
you're a clown.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
My gout a rose to read. That's the worst.
Speaker 4 (33:46):
Can you imaginef they let a guy in the air
right now? That's why I don't think they would phillies.
Now we I did a little digging. Lewis Cobb actually
has more than three thousand recreational and school league play
by play games. So he is not a life He
has just been doing it at a very long Ye.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
Well, he sounds great. Good for him. All right, let's
got a few more. Hey, Dick, did you happen to
hear that?
Speaker 5 (34:07):
What's that? Dick?
Speaker 2 (34:09):
Let's go to.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Number three. Apparently Wilbon and Steve and A are going
out now right.
Speaker 4 (34:15):
A little bit, so, I don't know if it's a
mountain out of a mole hill or if there's something
going on there.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
Michael Wilbon accusing Stephen A. Smith of not being a journalist,
Stephen A. Smith biting back. Keep in mind they both
work on the same network for ESPN. This is Michael
Wilbon Stephen A. Smith going at each other. Let's see
who the loudest voice in the room can be.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
Go ahead, Steven A.
Speaker 5 (34:35):
I'm looking at you.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
Stop.
Speaker 5 (34:37):
You're not a journalist anymore.
Speaker 8 (34:38):
You're not doing what you did and the Philly Acquires.
Speaker 5 (34:40):
I know what you did there because I was shoulder
to shoulder with you.
Speaker 8 (34:42):
At press row in press boxes and practice Alan Iverson's practices.
Speaker 5 (34:46):
Stop Stephen as a show. He's a show. He knows it.
Speaker 8 (34:49):
Responsibilities change, But the nature of who you are is it.
Speaker 5 (34:53):
I don't just come.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
On to e and blow the eight out the mouth.
Speaker 8 (34:56):
I make phone calls, I have resources people educate me
about what's going on. I'm just not in somebody's face
immediately upon talking about them. I gotta be a studio
Mike Duck et cetera. Stephen A Smith show on politics.
I've had over fifty politicians on my show sports. When
I sat down with commission to Goodell, was that not journalism?
When I sat down with Adam Silva and Gary Bettman
(35:17):
and Rob Manfred, was that not journalism? We come from
a principal journalistic for the state place.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
I'm hearing a clip, Jess from the studio. Whatever you're
doing back there, turn that off. I love the word bloviate,
by the way. That is such a great word that
he just used to describe Michael Wilbon.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
That is awesome.
Speaker 1 (35:38):
I like someone to bloviate out their bloviation today after
the game is over manned. But they work for the
same network. You think ESPN likes that. I would love it,
but I'm not sure if they like it.
Speaker 4 (35:47):
They probably don't, but they they should. I just think
Steven A. Smith is not a journalist anymore. He is
a talk show which is fine. It's fine, like you
know whatever. Now, there are there are people that do both.
Greg Bell is both. He's a talk show host for US.
He is a journalist, but most people are either journalists
(36:08):
or their talk show.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
Well, is he still writing stories, steven A? Is he
still breaking news steven A? He might be breaking news
every now and then. I have no idea, but I
don't think that that should be taken by Steven as
some kind of an insult. Not a journalist. I mean,
he was a journalist a different child. He's an entertainer.
Now he's a talk show host. Now he's this, now
he's this broadcaster. Now he's a talent. Now he's a personality. Right,
(36:30):
So that's not an insult to me at all. I
mean people say things like that to me.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
I'm like, really, I've never care, I've never considered myself
a journalist, even though when I was a sonics reporter,
when technically I guess I was a journalist on sonics
practices every day.
Speaker 5 (36:46):
But I've never considered myself a journalist, and I don't
care to be.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
A journal You were bloviating back then too, like you are. Now,
that's right, all right, we're gotta break. Uh, we'll talk
obviously about the game today. This has become just an
absolute clown show across the street.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Read it to you.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
This is really going to hurt their run differential. I
can tell you that right now. Eleven nothing Tigers in
the bottom of the ninth inning. By the way, Uh,
Scott Eckland. We're gonna talk some dogs with Scottie as well,
coming up on ninety three three kJ A r F
M
