So we thought we could do two things. Either a
just completely give Boone to the week off, or we
can move them to three twenty. And I thought to myself,
you know what, Jackson, for the amount of money that

I'm good, man, I'm good. I'm ready for a big
series with the Tigers this weekend. MS are eight and one,
their last nine got smoked on Wednesday yesterday by the match.
But hey, all good things must come to an end.
The mariner a game winning streak came to an end yesterday.
But why don't we just first of all, talk about
the view on this baseball team from fifty thousand feet
thirty three and thirty first place, second best run differential
(01:25):
in the American League. What do you make of what
you see after after sixty three games? Big boy?
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Well, you know what have I seen since a week
from now? You know, we're still sitting here a week
from a week from today, A week could go saying
when is this team going to kick it in gear?
And I've said all along, this is my team that
I picked at the beginning of the season to not
just win this division, but to be the class of
the American League. And as of a week ago, they weren't. Well,
(01:52):
they just rattled off. They rattled off to eight of
ten right and had had a really good week. Beat Arizona,
by the way, Arizona's a good team. And then you
take two out of three from the Mets. Mets are
playing better, and actually they've got pretty pretty sufficient pitching
and their starting rotation. So it's not like, oh yeah,
(02:13):
the Mets record. There's more to the Mets than a
bad record. Seattle can attest to that. But I think
this team it's just too good on paper. It's just
too good to keep going like this. And that bullpen
is solid, really good. That's starting rotation. Obviously, now you're
going with the six man rotation. You got the guys
(02:36):
going with Julio. I mean, there was a case to
be made for Julio for Player of the Month in May.
That could have happened, but it didn't. Julio's out there.
He's got thirteen homers. Crawford, with all the talk about
Emerson coming up and the Crawford's quietly got ten homers
and his ops, which everybody loves nowadays, is in the

mid seven. So I think Crawford's doing a really good
job of Rosa. Marina is great, he's stealing a bunch
of bases. Naylor, who had the dismal start, uh, he's
getting back to respectability. Rayley's been a huge surprise and
awesome production for him all year. I look up and down,
everybody's chipped in cal Rawley. We need him to get healthy.
(03:17):
You got Donovan. Uh We We don't really have a
timetable on those two guys. But but you know, cal
had about as bad of a start as you can
have coming off sixty homers. But he's going to be
nothing but a but a boon to this offense. Yeah,
just in that clubhouse, Calbia behind the plate, and the
Predik kid, he's done a good job filling n Y
Cousman been hurt. So all in all, they're in a
(03:40):
good spot right now. They're they're winning the division. I
know their record, you know they think and I think
should be much better. But you pointed to the run
differential and they are second only behind the Yankees Yankees
in all the American League. I think they're at a
plus thirty now. So all in all, this is about
this is about as good a week, a week he
can turn in two as Maybe this is the week

that the Mariners turned the page and started playing like
they're capable of. Well.

to kind of attack this as a two headed monster
because when when cal Raley and Brandon Donovan come back,

the Mariners are going to have some questions they got
to figure out, right, Like, what do you do with Donovan?
I mean, obviously he was your starting third baseman. He's
not your starting third baseman. Now that's cold Emerson's job.
That kid's not going anywhere unless you want to move.
They got a shortstop and then make JP Crawt for
a DH but you want his bat in there for sure,
So what do you do with Donovan? And then when
(04:49):
cal Raley returns, you mentioned Parada, who's got a seven
eighty ozerops, what do you do with Parada? I mean,
I think when Parada was here, the idea was that
when cal Raley's back, Parada goes back to the minors.
He's got options, that's it, that's all. But I kind
of like having Parada on the roster. You carry three catchers.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
You could carry three catchers and it's all gonna depend
on They want them to keep developed, and they don't
want them just sitting there because when Cal comes back,
Kal's going to catch every single day. I mean, Cal's
not one a typical twenty twenty six catcher where he
takes two days off a week. Cal's in there every day.
He's kind of a throwback catcher. So if they want
him to continue, he's done a great job. But if
they wanted him to continue to develop, he's going to
(05:31):
go back to the minor leagues. As far as Donovan,
it's a it's an awesome problem to have for these mariners.
I talk about having too many healthy people all the time. Well,
a lot of teams are on baseball say I wish,
I wish we had that problem. We have to make
decisions on having six, six first class starters instead of five.
A lot of guys have three and are making ends
(05:53):
meet with the other two spots. So I think this
is a good problem to have have. Ing Donovan, he'll
he'll find his way in. He'll they'll have a day
where Emerson will go over to short Crawford off death,
Donovan will get to play third. He might pop over
to first base and play a little bit. Donovan can
play the outfield. It's a good problem to have, and
to say, you know the Emerson kids. He looks like
(06:15):
he's the real He's going to be a good player
and be in the age that he is. It's just
it's amazing to me every time I see a twenty
year old come up and actually hold their own at
the big league level. I think back to when I
was twenty and what I thought I could have done
and what was realistic. I needed a couple more years
to kind of figure things out. So I'm always amazed
(06:36):
at the kids that come up that early and really
kind of hold their own and look like big leaguers
from the start. He seems to be one of those guys.
But I think the Donovan great problem to have. Come back.
You got a real quality player that's going to kind
of go from playing third every day to kind of
be in your your super swingman now.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Totally. That's the beauty of Donovan right boone that he's
got two hundred starts at second, one hundred and sixty,
one hundred and thirty nine in the last fifty two
at third, twenty three at right. He's got twelve games
at shortstop. I mean, this guy's played everywhere, so you're
one hundred percent right. They can find a way to
use him from night to night, depending on who needs
a day off, matchups, the whole thing. But you know,
(07:14):
the other conversation that's kind of coming up now, man,
is this six man rotation they're going to. And we've
gone from the piggyback, which has now been scrapped. Who
knows if they returned to it, to a six man rotation,
and who knows how long they'll go with that. You know,
it just means an extra day off for everybody. You know,
George Kirby got the start yesterday, got knocked around pretty
good by the Mets, and now he's got a wait
(07:36):
a week. I Emerson Hancock was great on Monday, now
he's got a wait a week. Brian Wu the same thing.
So how long would you stay with this six man rotation?
Would you stay with a six man rotation at all?
Speaker 3 (07:47):
A few were the maritors, Well, I think we talked
about this a week ago. It's like, you're not here
to make people happy. I'm not here. You know, yeah,
I want like everybody else. If I'm the skipper, I
want everybody to love me. I want everybody like me,
respect me. YadA, YadA, YadA. But bottom line is winning games.
Now the Piggyback didn't like that, Castillo got upset a
(08:07):
couple starts. The results are different than whether you like
it or not. It's all about results. The Piggyback, for
the two times they did it, went pretty darn good.
And now all of a sudden, we're going to the
six man rotation right once again. I need to be
in the room. I need to know how Kirby feels
about this. How does WU feel about it? You know,
not so much Handcock because he's kind of new the rotation.
(08:29):
What does Kirby think about going every six days? Is
that comfortable for him? Because what matters is the collective.
What matters is that rotation. All those guys respond very
well to it, And I don't care whether they like
it they don't like it, But does it fit? Can
they pitch up to their expectations and up to their
ability level going with a six man rotation? We're about
(08:50):
to find out. But the bottom line is winning games.
As long as you win doesn't matter who's happy, who's
not happy. It's about winning and winning games. Now, you
got everybody angry and upset because they don't like the
six man takes, so we don't like the piggyback and
you're losing every night. Well, now you've got a real problem.
But as long as you win games, it doesn't matter.
It's you know, it's yeah, you don't like it. I
(09:12):
mean I would assume if you're worth your salt, you
and you're a start and pitcher on this Mariner rot
on this Mariner staff, you want your your time to
come up once every fifth day. Sure, that's the routine,
that's what you've been used to. Right now, maybe this
makes you a little uncomfortable. I think if you saw
the majority of that six man rotation start to be
(09:33):
out of sorts and not pitch like they normally pitch,
well I think you'd see a quick change to this
six man rotation. But right now we're going to see
and and like I said, it's about winning games. As
long as they keep winning games, right, you can kind
of do whatever you want. You know, you could put
any lineup you want out there. You can do a
four man rotation, six man. As long as you're winning games,
(09:54):
that's all that matters.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Well, And that's the thing is that I think it's okay.

And I mean you did a good job of describing
it there that like you kind of want George Kirby
and Logan Gilbert and Brian Woo to be pissed about this,
because if they're not, there's something wrong with you, right,
There's something wrong with them if they're not mad. I mean,
they want to get out there every freaking day as
(10:16):
much as they can stay on their routine. So like
that's okay, It's okay if they're pissed off about it.
The question is how do they respond to it? How
do they approach it? Are they a problem in the clubhouse?
Are they an issue with the front office? Do they
throw temper tantrums on live TV? The way Luis Castillo
did the other day? And I was actually okay with
that too because that showed me how competitive he was.
(10:37):
But there's now a question Boone getting thrown around on
social media. You saw where Trek Scoubele may actually end
up having I think they said there might be a
rehab start for him coming this weekend with his elbow injury,
and he might be ready to go in maybe a
couple of weeks, which means he'll be back, you know,
a month and a half before the trade deadline. And
(10:58):
I think everybody assumes that the Tigers going to trade
Tarik Scooball. For as good and deep as the Mariner's
rotation has been, should they try and make it even
better and maybe give up a George Kirby or a
Logan Gilbert who's got one year left with arbitration before
he's a free agent, package him with some prospects and
(11:19):
try to just upgrade your pitching staff and bring Tarrek
Scooble to Seattle.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
I'd love to see that, you know, selfishly, you know,
Seattle be in my home, not literal home, but yeah,
you know where I'm known from. Absolutely, I would love
to see that. Now does that fit into their economic plan?
Who knows? Because if you're gonna give it up, and
by the way, all due respect to a Kirby or
a Gilbert, it's gonna take more than that, You're right,
It's gonna take a package, and a lucrative one.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
No, doubt.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
But if you're gonna give if you're going to give
up that quality that you're gonna have to give up
for a schoobl you got to be ready to write
that check. And that check is going to be big
because schools. He's not looking for, you know, a decent deal.
This is a guy coming off back to back cy
Young's and if he doesn't get hurt this year, who knows,
knowing him watching how he started off, he could win
another one. So you're talking about the tip top elite
(12:11):
UH pitchers in all the game and uh, you know,
going into free agency. So if you're gonna give some up,
you gotta be prepared to really open that check book.
If that's in uh Seattle's purview and they think they
can handle that, absolutely bring it Schooble. Oh my gosh,
it would almost be unfair you add Schooble to that rotation.
How how dynamic you? Oh? And he's so and he's
(12:33):
such a good guy. I'm kind of a fan of his.
I played golf with him a year and a half
ago or so and just just talking talking to him
for for the for the round. I've had him on
my show a few times and he's just I talk
about Cal Rowley always being kind of that throwback, that
old school guy that he expects to be in, you know,
in that in that lineup. Every day hurt, he's playing hurt,
(12:56):
he doesn't care. Schooble is the exact same way. How
many guys, Soften, do you think of today's game with
the injury that Schooble had, would be would be getting
ready to go on a rehab start right now? Yeah?
Now I many one percent?
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Right? One percent? If that, well, he's he's that one percent.
And Booty, here's the thing about Schooball, and I threw
this out before you came on that. Hey look man,
I mean, George Kirby is really really good. Tarrek scouble
is in a different different level. I mean the Mariners,
for example, And this is not all his fault. Since
the start at twenty twenty four, the Mariners are thirty
six and thirty three in games started by George Kirby
(13:32):
in games started by Tarrek Scuball in that same span.
And I happen to believe the Tigers and Mariners have
kind of similar offenses as far as talent goes, right,
they're both kind of there in the middle of the
pack when they're both click and I think I think
the Mariners are better now, but they're not showing it.
But anyway, the Tigers in that same span are forty
six and twenty three Boonie, They're forty two to ten
(13:56):
in twenty twenty four, in twenty twenty five with this
guy on the mound, can you imagine throwing if you
gave up a Logan or a Gilbert for him, you
got Bryce Miller, Brian Wu, Tarek Scouble, one of those
guys goes to the bullpen and maybe join Luis Castillo.
With all the bullpen arms they've assembled, you would be
freaking relentless with the pitching that you would be able

to throw at people the rest of this year. So
I know, I think you're right. The Mariners would want
to resign him if they could do this deal. I'm
not even certain I need to resign him. Just having
this guy on my staff the rest of the year
and go get me a World Series. Hell yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
Mean you talk about it, and once again, really not
fair because he doesn't have the he doesn't have the
that the resume, right, what's the word I'm looking for
what I I'm always looking for words.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Yeah, that's why I carry it thesaurus.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
But but I'll tell you what if they're if there
is a modern day yeah, Randy Johnson, Yes that's Terrek Scoogle. Yes,
that's that's give me the ball, get out out of
my way, Let's go to town and let me shove.
That's what schoolbol does. I can't imagine having a better guy.
And I know he's such a good guy, a very

humble guy by the way he's he When I was
talking to him, I said, you know, school, you know
we're talking about this and that and past generations and
playing now. He just says, woony, everybody, I won this
cy Young And this was after his first Sig Young.
He goes. Everybody thinks that that I just just win
Sy youngs. He goes, Check what I've been doing for
(15:32):
the last four or five years, He goes, You talk
about humble pie, he said, I've got my blood kick.
He goes, But I finally figured it out a little
bit and I'm having some success. He goes, But that
doesn't make me forget where I came from. Three years ago.
I didn't know if I was going to be a
big league Uh, I was gonna have a big league career.
All of a sudden, I figured some things out. Things

are clicking. He goes but this is not you know,
I've gone through the trials and the tribulator. He just
he just figured it out. And you watch him pitch
and sometimes he's very animated that The last thing he
is a is a jerk. But he's a jerk when
he takes the ball. He reminds me a little bit
attitude wide of a Nathan Nathan Valdi, one of the nicest,
humblest good dudes. But when he takes the ball and
(16:15):
he's got it work and he looks like a real jerk.
As a hitter, I hated those guys, the Roger Clemens
of the world. They take the ball and they they're
gonna hit you in the head. Pedro wants to hit
you in the head. That's his attitude. And I don't
mean he goes out, but but it's one of those
guys you're playing behind and you know today is wind day.
That's a Randy Johnson and uh man, that that's I
(16:35):
don't know. We might be dreaming a little bit to
get VI in Seattle, but he's pretty dark.

How's this game? By the way I'm looking at he's
not he's not registered for a handicap in the Michigan,
California or Washington game.

He's alright, he's he's learning the game. Let's put it
that way. He's at the very beginning. He had a
bunch of his buddies come out with him. Uh, he's
in the he's in the beginning stages. But you can
tell he's starting to get the golf bug right, like
he's starting starting to take it serious. But he was
at the beginning stages. That was about a year and
a half ago.

Hey, real quick, boone, you got about a minute left, Okay,
before you go. Rob Manfred Commissioner, came out there day
and was asked if he's concerned about a workstop as
you said, Yeah, I mean we're all concerned about that.
Are you concerned about that?

Oh? Sure, I think I would. I would if I'm
putting my thumb on the scale and having to put
a future's bed in, I would say there is going
to be some sort of stoppage right now.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
During the season, during the season after I.

See how they came out with the first Uh, with
the first proposal to the union, and of course it
was going to be heavy. Of course it was going
to be a you know, a solid salary cap, a
hard salary cap, which is like kryptonite to the union.
You say that, but they know by putting it out there,
that's how they're going to receive it. And the first
(17:57):
you know, you hear the first retorts are never have
a salary cap, this and that. But I think if
you come out that extreme and say hard salary cap
and a number that we know nobody's gonna like, well,
then you got a lot of room to negotiate. So
six months from night and say hey we started here. Yeah,
so I think it was a negotiating tactic. But I
think this is you know, this could this could be
(18:17):
a long, long offseason, but hopefully not. You know, we've
kind of been able to avoid a work stoppage, a
major one since back in my time in nineteen ninety
four was the back last real big one. We had
a couple brief stoppages, but a day or two that
really didn't affect or move the needle. So but this is,

this is a fight and it's been a long time coming.
I just hope they find a way and cool heads prevail.

Yeah, I'm just I'm like you, I'm just hopeful it
doesn't happen during the season, or concern that it will.

it's a it's an awesome problem to have for these mariners.
I talk about having too many healthy people all the time. Well,
a lot of teams are on baseball say I wish,
I wish we had that problem. We have to make
decisions on having six, six first class starters instead of five.
A lot of guys have three and are making ends
(05:53):
meet with the other two spots. So I think this
is a good problem to have have. Ing Donovan, he'll
he'll find his way in. He'll they'll have a day
where Emerson will go over to short Crawford off death,
Donovan will get to play third. He might pop over
to first base and play a little bit. Donovan can
play the outfield. It's a good problem to have, and
to say, you know the Emerson kids. He looks like
(06:15):
he's the real He's going to be a good player
and be in the age that he is. It's just
it's amazing to me every time I see a twenty
year old come up and actually hold their own at
the big league level. I think back to when I
was twenty and what I thought I could have done
and what was realistic. I needed a couple more years
to kind of figure things out. So I'm always amazed
(06:36):
at the kids that come up that early and really
kind of hold their own and look like big leaguers
from the start. He seems to be one of those guys.
But I think the Donovan great problem to have. Come back.
You got a real quality player that's going to kind
of go from playing third every day to kind of
be in your your super swingman now.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Totally. That's the beauty of Donovan right boone that he's
got two hundred starts at second, one hundred and sixty,
one hundred and thirty nine in the last fifty two
at third, twenty three at right. He's got twelve games
at shortstop. I mean, this guy's played everywhere, so you're
one hundred percent right. They can find a way to
use him from night to night, depending on who needs
a day off, matchups, the whole thing. But you know,
(07:14):
the other conversation that's kind of coming up now, man,
is this six man rotation they're going to. And we've
gone from the piggyback, which has now been scrapped. Who
knows if they returned to it, to a six man rotation,
and who knows how long they'll go with that. You know,
it just means an extra day off for everybody. You know,
George Kirby got the start yesterday, got knocked around pretty
good by the Mets, and now he's got a wait
(07:36):
a week. I Emerson Hancock was great on Monday, now
he's got a wait a week. Brian Wu the same thing.
So how long would you stay with this six man rotation?
Would you stay with a six man rotation at all?
Speaker 3 (07:47):
A few were the maritors, Well, I think we talked
about this a week ago. It's like, you're not here
to make people happy. I'm not here. You know, yeah,
I want like everybody else. If I'm the skipper, I
want everybody to love me. I want everybody like me,
respect me. YadA, YadA, YadA. But bottom line is winning games.
Now the Piggyback didn't like that, Castillo got upset a
(08:07):
couple starts. The results are different than whether you like
it or not. It's all about results. The Piggyback, for
the two times they did it, went pretty darn good.
And now all of a sudden, we're going to the
six man rotation right once again. I need to be
in the room. I need to know how Kirby feels
about this. How does WU feel about it? You know,
not so much Handcock because he's kind of new the rotation.
(08:29):
What does Kirby think about going every six days? Is
that comfortable for him? Because what matters is the collective.
What matters is that rotation. All those guys respond very
well to it, And I don't care whether they like
it they don't like it, But does it fit? Can
they pitch up to their expectations and up to their
ability level going with a six man rotation? We're about
(08:50):
to find out. But the bottom line is winning games.
As long as you win doesn't matter who's happy, who's
not happy. It's about winning and winning games. Now, you
got everybody angry and upset because they don't like the
six man takes, so we don't like the piggyback and
you're losing every night. Well, now you've got a real problem.
But as long as you win games, it doesn't matter.
It's you know, it's yeah, you don't like it. I
(09:12):
mean I would assume if you're worth your salt, you
and you're a start and pitcher on this Mariner rot
on this Mariner staff, you want your your time to
come up once every fifth day. Sure, that's the routine,
that's what you've been used to. Right now, maybe this
makes you a little uncomfortable. I think if you saw
the majority of that six man rotation start to be
(09:33):
out of sorts and not pitch like they normally pitch,
well I think you'd see a quick change to this
six man rotation. But right now we're going to see
and and like I said, it's about winning games. As
long as they keep winning games, right, you can kind
of do whatever you want. You know, you could put
any lineup you want out there. You can do a
four man rotation, six man. As long as you're winning games,
(09:54):
that's all that matters.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Well, And that's the thing is that I think it's okay.
Boonie and Brett Boone is with us courtesy of Venue Kings,
And I mean you did a good job of describing
it there that like you kind of want George Kirby
and Logan Gilbert and Brian Woo to be pissed about this,
because if they're not, there's something wrong with you, right,
There's something wrong with them if they're not mad. I mean,
they want to get out there every freaking day as
(10:16):
much as they can stay on their routine. So like
that's okay, It's okay if they're pissed off about it.
The question is how do they respond to it? How
do they approach it? Are they a problem in the clubhouse?
Are they an issue with the front office? Do they
throw temper tantrums on live TV? The way Luis Castillo
did the other day? And I was actually okay with
that too because that showed me how competitive he was.
(10:37):
But there's now a question Boone getting thrown around on
social media. You saw where Trek Scoubele may actually end
up having I think they said there might be a
rehab start for him coming this weekend with his elbow injury,
and he might be ready to go in maybe a
couple of weeks, which means he'll be back, you know,
a month and a half before the trade deadline. And
(10:58):
I think everybody assumes that the Tigers going to trade
Tarik Scooball. For as good and deep as the Mariner's
rotation has been, should they try and make it even
better and maybe give up a George Kirby or a
Logan Gilbert who's got one year left with arbitration before
he's a free agent, package him with some prospects and
(11:19):
try to just upgrade your pitching staff and bring Tarrek
Scooble to Seattle.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
I'd love to see that, you know, selfishly, you know,
Seattle be in my home, not literal home, but yeah,
you know where I'm known from. Absolutely, I would love
to see that. Now does that fit into their economic plan?
Who knows? Because if you're gonna give it up, and
by the way, all due respect to a Kirby or
a Gilbert, it's gonna take more than that, You're right,
It's gonna take a package, and a lucrative one.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
No, doubt.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
But if you're gonna give if you're going to give
up that quality that you're gonna have to give up
for a schoobl you got to be ready to write
that check. And that check is going to be big
because schools. He's not looking for, you know, a decent deal.
This is a guy coming off back to back cy
Young's and if he doesn't get hurt this year, who knows,
knowing him watching how he started off, he could win
another one. So you're talking about the tip top elite
(12:11):
UH pitchers in all the game and uh, you know,
going into free agency. So if you're gonna give some up,
you gotta be prepared to really open that check book.
If that's in uh Seattle's purview and they think they
can handle that, absolutely bring it Schooble. Oh my gosh,
it would almost be unfair you add Schooble to that rotation.
How how dynamic you? Oh? And he's so and he's
(12:33):
such a good guy. I'm kind of a fan of his.
I played golf with him a year and a half
ago or so and just just talking talking to him
for for the for the round. I've had him on
my show a few times and he's just I talk
about Cal Rowley always being kind of that throwback, that
old school guy that he expects to be in, you know,
in that in that lineup. Every day hurt, he's playing hurt,
(12:56):
he doesn't care. Schooble is the exact same way. How
many guys, Soften, do you think of today's game with
the injury that Schooble had, would be would be getting
ready to go on a rehab start right now? Yeah?
Now I many one percent?
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Right? One percent? If that, well, he's he's that one percent.
And Booty, here's the thing about Schooball, and I threw
this out before you came on that. Hey look man,
I mean, George Kirby is really really good. Tarrek scouble
is in a different different level. I mean the Mariners,
for example, And this is not all his fault. Since
the start at twenty twenty four, the Mariners are thirty
six and thirty three in games started by George Kirby
(13:32):
in games started by Tarrek Scuball in that same span.
And I happen to believe the Tigers and Mariners have
kind of similar offenses as far as talent goes, right,
they're both kind of there in the middle of the
pack when they're both click and I think I think
the Mariners are better now, but they're not showing it.
But anyway, the Tigers in that same span are forty
six and twenty three Boonie, They're forty two to ten
(13:56):
in twenty twenty four, in twenty twenty five with this
guy on the mound, can you imagine throwing if you
gave up a Logan or a Gilbert for him, you
got Bryce Miller, Brian Wu, Tarek Scouble, one of those
guys goes to the bullpen and maybe join Luis Castillo.
With all the bullpen arms they've assembled, you would be
freaking relentless with the pitching that you would be able
(14:18):
to throw at people the rest of this year. So
I know, I think you're right. The Mariners would want
to resign him if they could do this deal. I'm
not even certain I need to resign him. Just having
this guy on my staff the rest of the year
and go get me a World Series. Hell yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
Mean you talk about it, and once again, really not
fair because he doesn't have the he doesn't have the
that the resume, right, what's the word I'm looking for
what I I'm always looking for words.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Yeah, that's why I carry it thesaurus.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
But but I'll tell you what if they're if there
is a modern day yeah, Randy Johnson, Yes that's Terrek Scoogle. Yes,
that's that's give me the ball, get out out of
my way, Let's go to town and let me shove.
That's what schoolbol does. I can't imagine having a better guy.
And I know he's such a good guy, a very
(15:11):
humble guy by the way he's he When I was
talking to him, I said, you know, school, you know
we're talking about this and that and past generations and
playing now. He just says, woony, everybody, I won this
cy Young And this was after his first Sig Young.
He goes. Everybody thinks that that I just just win
Sy youngs. He goes, Check what I've been doing for
(15:32):
the last four or five years, He goes, You talk
about humble pie, he said, I've got my blood kick.
He goes, But I finally figured it out a little
bit and I'm having some success. He goes, But that
doesn't make me forget where I came from. Three years ago.
I didn't know if I was going to be a
big league Uh, I was gonna have a big league career.
All of a sudden, I figured some things out. Things
(15:53):
are clicking. He goes but this is not you know,
I've gone through the trials and the tribulator. He just
he just figured it out. And you watch him pitch
and sometimes he's very animated that The last thing he
is a is a jerk. But he's a jerk when
he takes the ball. He reminds me a little bit
attitude wide of a Nathan Nathan Valdi, one of the nicest,
humblest good dudes. But when he takes the ball and
(16:15):
he's got it work and he looks like a real jerk.
As a hitter, I hated those guys, the Roger Clemens
of the world. They take the ball and they they're
gonna hit you in the head. Pedro wants to hit
you in the head. That's his attitude. And I don't
mean he goes out, but but it's one of those
guys you're playing behind and you know today is wind day.
That's a Randy Johnson and uh man, that that's I
(16:35):
don't know. We might be dreaming a little bit to
get VI in Seattle, but he's pretty dark.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
How's this game? By the way I'm looking at he's
not he's not registered for a handicap in the Michigan,
California or Washington game.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
He's alright, he's he's learning the game. Let's put it
that way. He's at the very beginning. He had a
bunch of his buddies come out with him. Uh, he's
in the he's in the beginning stages. But you can
tell he's starting to get the golf bug right, like
he's starting starting to take it serious. But he was
at the beginning stages. That was about a year and
a half ago.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Hey, real quick, boone, you got about a minute left, Okay,
before you go. Rob Manfred Commissioner, came out there day
and was asked if he's concerned about a workstop as
you said, Yeah, I mean we're all concerned about that.
Are you concerned about that?
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Oh? Sure, I think I would. I would if I'm
putting my thumb on the scale and having to put
a future's bed in, I would say there is going
to be some sort of stoppage right now.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
During the season, during the season after I.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
See how they came out with the first Uh, with
the first proposal to the union, and of course it
was going to be heavy. Of course it was going
to be a you know, a solid salary cap, a
hard salary cap, which is like kryptonite to the union.
You say that, but they know by putting it out there,
that's how they're going to receive it. And the first
(17:57):
you know, you hear the first retorts are never have
a salary cap, this and that. But I think if
you come out that extreme and say hard salary cap
and a number that we know nobody's gonna like, well,
then you got a lot of room to negotiate. So
six months from night and say hey we started here. Yeah,
so I think it was a negotiating tactic. But I
think this is you know, this could this could be
(18:17):
a long, long offseason, but hopefully not. You know, we've
kind of been able to avoid a work stoppage, a
major one since back in my time in nineteen ninety
four was the back last real big one. We had
a couple brief stoppages, but a day or two that
really didn't affect or move the needle. So but this is,
(18:38):
this is a fight and it's been a long time coming.
I just hope they find a way and cool heads prevail.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Yeah, I'm just I'm like you, I'm just hopeful it
doesn't happen during the season, or concern that it will.
