Now back to Safti and Dick on Sports Radio ninety
three point three KJARFM.
Speaker 4 (00:15):
All right, we're back on a busy Tuesday night right
here on ninety three to three KJRFM.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Excuse me, bless you sorry? Oh man, allergies are kicking
my ass here. Baby.
Speaker 4 (00:28):
Maybe I'll go back to Maui and just do the
show from there. How's that sound that sounds good? Can
I go with you?
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Nope?
Speaker 4 (00:32):
Just me Jackson. You can come visit, but Dick's cuss
stay here. This next guy can come whenever he wants.
The head coach of the Sounders, FC Brian Schmetzer with
us on the radio show.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Brian, how are you man?
Speaker 2 (00:42):
I'm moving good. Look, buddy of mine. Saw you at
No Boo down at the Grand Wi Lea. He was like, going,
there's Dave Softy Maller.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
You know what I was doing outside Nobu?
Speaker 3 (00:52):
By the way, what were you doing outside of No Boo?
Speaker 4 (00:56):
Not going into the restaurant. I just sat there and
stared at it. By by the way, they took that
beautiful Annay at the Grand White and said, you can't
have breakfast here because we got to turn it into
a sushi restaurant and they want no competition throughout the
day for anything. So yeah, we didn't eat there, but
I'm curious if your buddy didn't, if you liked it
or not. But hey, listen, man, we got to get
(01:17):
you away in on something real quick. We're having some
fun today on the radio show talking about if we
would trade a Seahawks Super Bowl title for a Mariner
World Series appearance. Jackson and Dick both said no. I
said that I would. I'm getting killed for it. Would
you trade any of your trophies that you've ever won
in professional soccer for one Mariner World Series appearance?
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Well, appearance, yes, but all very like victory.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
Nope, just an appearance meaning you beat the Blue Jays
last year in Game seven.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
It was an exciting series and I feel bad for
the Mariners, But.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
All right, good enough, final, We can move on.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
What happened.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
What happened in Utah, Man, we all saw it. Lake
two to one talk us through it, same thing that.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Happened since twenty eleven, and I'm getting kind of pested
about it. So not in the best of moods. I mean,
we had a really good week of preparation. I think
the belief in the squad, and you know, it's the
first game of a long road trip, but they trained
well and everything, and we were talking about what we
(02:25):
need to do to be successful there and man like,
the goalkeeper made two saves in the first ten minutes
should have been to nothing for us. We let in
a sloppy goal for the first one. We regroup at halftime,
I'm like, going, we've got to press higher up the field.
You know, we've got to be aggressive. We've got to
do all this sort of stuff. And then all of
(02:46):
a sudden, one ball beats an aggressive press and they
get to to nothing, and you know, I had to
make some changes, but the guys never quit. We got
the first goal two to one. I thought we were
in the game. Then we just couldn't make that last play.
I mean, we scored an off side goal, We had
some chances. The goalkeeper made another unbelievable save on Danny Mussoski.
(03:10):
But you know, what's softy. We haven't won there since
twenty eleven, and I'm getting kind of tired of it.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Well, I can't imagine they've always been a better team
than you guys during that stretch of twenty eleven. So
what's the common theme? What's the thread through all those losses?
Speaker 2 (03:27):
You know, Dick, I wish I knew, because I really again,
I thought the preparation of the guys, they did a
great job. It's something about that stadium, that atmosphere, you know.
I don't want to use altitude as an excuse because
there's no excuses there. Takes a little bit of autia,
(03:47):
but you get used to it. We had more possession,
we had fifty seven percent possession. We created some good chances.
I wish I had the answer, because then we would
have won the freaking game.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
I gotcha.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Well, listen, we love when you get angry because that
means you're going to kick the piss out of Saint
Louis this weekend, by the way, so can't.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Wait for that. Take your aggression out on them, by
the way.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
But Brian Schmitzer with us and and Brian, look, we've
all seen young guys come up, young guys get shots
and it just doesn't work out for whatever reason. And
I'm not saying that Osase de Rosario is in that
category yet at all.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
But a couple of matches.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
In have you have you seen from him what you
want to see from him or is there any part
of you thinking that maybe Danny needs to get a
little more run.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Well, Danny's going to get a little bit more run.
I think that shifted the natural kind of way things
happen sometimes. I mean, rookies, guys with not a lot
of experience, they come out of the gates really strong.
I thought, I saw they had a great preseason, you know,
but he hasn't been as effective playing against you know
MLS opposition. You know, what we did in preseason was
(04:58):
a little different. So look, the kid works hard, works
his butt off. He's a big kid, strong kids scored
those goals in preseason. But I need guys to make
plays and he needs to be involved. And that's not
all his fault. Some of our players need to help.
But Danny certainly is chomping on the bit himself. I
had a good conversation with him today after training. He's
(05:21):
fired up, ready to go. So we'll see my final
choices for Saint Louis. But I've got Saint Louis and
I've got the Conquercap Champions Cup with Vancouver, and then
we've got San Jose and we've got all these games
coming up. He's gonna get minutes. Both of them are
gonna get minutes.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Similar question with Sani Dotson and Snyder Burnell. Is it
time to get the youngster some more work?
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Well, that's another great question because snighters come on look
good now starting a game versus you know, coming on
in some cameo appearances. There's more responsibility when you start.
There's other issues, but it has looked good. And look,
it might not be Hassani coming out, but it might
be Hayzus or you know it's Albert. I might move
(06:07):
Jesus over there. So the kids fighting for playing time
as well. And you know Schnyder's been Snyder's been good well.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
Brian Schmetzer's with us sounders FC. Talk to me about
Jordan Morris, the recent injury with him. Has the timeline
changed at all? Any update city status change with Jordan
that you can tell us about.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Yeah, I wish Softie, I wish I had better news.
But no, he's on the same timeline four weeks from
the date of injury, like he was jogging on the
field today. But he's still a ways off. We still
got a pretty we've still got a pretty digged up squad,
and I'm not happy about that because we're we're we're
coming in this sixer congestion. So any miracle, any you know,
(06:50):
prayers or anything, just keep saying them because I need
some players.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Well you need some players at the center back position.
How how's the injuries going at that position right now?
Speaker 2 (06:59):
Well, well we had we had a little bit of
a setback today and breaking a little bit of news
here softly because I love you man. I missed you
last week. Kim. He had a little setback in training today.
Ryan Sailor, the U doub grad, he's still a ways away.
Stuart Hawkins is still kind of on the same program.
(07:20):
He's still three to four weeks away. So Dick, we're
up against it at the center back position. But I
played Alex Roldan there when I took Yamar off. That's
kind of a stopgap. Or if I want to attack
more or knew who's going to have to slide over
there if I need to rest Jackson or Yamar. So
we're working on temporary solutions, but I got to get
(07:42):
some guys healthy.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
Well, the center back situation is getting kind of ludicrous,
right obviously. And look, I'm not saying you're doing this now,
and as long as I've known you, you never have
done this. But does it ever get to a point
for you as a head coach where you say to
yourself over and over and over and over again, I
will never use in as an excuse for the way
my team performs, But at some point you got to
(08:05):
tell yourself, all right, this is insane, right, Like I
got to give myself and my staff and my team
a little bit of a break here.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Well, we say it sometimes internally. Sometimes the message I
give internally externally is a little bit different. I mean,
I don't like using injuries as an excuse because every
team has them. Every every MLS team is going to
go through you know, certain injuries. You know other sports
are the same. But at the end of the day,
I think you know, Craig has been always good, Adrian's
(08:37):
been good about getting me a deep team, so we're
able to withstand some of these moments. But you know,
I just had a I just had a conversation with
Craig today. I mean, if if things aren't going well
with Kim or any of the other guys, you know,
we might have to think about adding another player.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Saturdayn the road against Saint Louis. Give us a preview
of that one.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Well, team that is searching, searching for the identity with
the new coach, got some decent players, went down to
San Diego, tough place to play, and had a couple
of moments where they could have changed the game at
one to one and ended up losing two nothing against
the good San Diego team. So I'm expecting a hardworking
(09:20):
because you know the teams from the Midwest, they're all
hardworking people out there, hardworking teams, some good players. Not sure,
you know, they're going to play a back line of
five again like we like we saw against ourselves, So
that might help us in our preparation, Dick. But they're
searching for some wins and points at home for sure. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
Well that's on the Seattle Soccer radio channel, by the way,
on the iHeart app on Saturday pre game five kickoff
at five point thirty from Saint Louis.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
All right, Brian, great stuff.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
I'm curious to know what your record is coming off
of a loss in Utah against Riale salt Lake as
you sound pissed, and I think your boys might even
play pissed on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
So money I saved on going to Nobu or not
going to Nobu by.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
The way, which is like four hundred bucks for a meal,
that's before booze. I'm gonna bet all of it on
you guys to cover and win on Saturday night.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
That's how much I believe in you.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Okay, I appreciate it, but I can't talk about gambling.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
All daub I love it, all right, week work, all right, Brian,
you're the best.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
We're talking a week man.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
All right, take care of you, see you man.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
Brian Schmittzer with us on the radio show We're Gonna
Break John Wilner.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
We've actually tracked him down.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
I had a little bit of a family emergency, but
everything's okay. He's gonna pop on Say Hello next on
ninety three three KJRFM.
