all the potential inductees. I saw a bunch of familiar names,
including Percy Harvin, Mike Leach on that list, Ryan Leaf
on that list.

I'm in four halls of things, so this would just

I had, first of all, congratulations number one, but apparently
congratulations were in order like a decade ago.

Hall of Fame since twenty twelve.

I've been nominated a few times there, but my name's
still on it. I get a certain number of people
who are paying attention to that kind of stuff, reaching
out to congratulating me. Half of them think that means
I got in, and the other half are saying, yes,
about the time you got nominated and I'll go yeah, yeah, right,
So twenty twelve, I guess you weren't paying that good

of attention though.

So I mean, how does that work then? I mean, like,
some years you are, some years you're not. Yet when
do you find out to take us through the process here?

Yeah, I'm not one hundred percent sure on all of it.

The first time I got nominated, someone did reach out
to me from the National Football Foundation in the Hall
of Fame and told me that I was nominated, and
they invited me to become a member of.

The National Football Foundation Hall of Fame.

I guess it's a membership organization that anyone that has
any sort of relationship or affiliation with college.

Football can join. But I didn't join.

And what I found out later is is that if
you do join and you get a lot of your friends,
you know, guys who you played with and all that,
to join as well, then you have more power.

To actually get in.

Now that's not the only way, of course, you can
be Barry Sanders, right, yeah, and the.

British running back of all time, you're getting in.

But a guy like me who was only a first
team All American pack team playing the year Adult Walker
were winner. You know, all Pack ten, all American. You
know I need some help to get in.

Yeah, well the campaign starts now, all right, because I
had no idea that you were even nominated until this year.
But now that you have the power of this radio
station behind you. I mean, for example, we are personally
responsible and Dick will vouch for this, forgetting Edgar Martinez

a humble person if you know me in real life.
But my persona, my radio persona and media persona is
to brag a little bit, because you know, that just
kind of makes it fun. You know, when me, you
and Mario are there and things aren't that exciting, I
like to make it fun, So I'll do that kind
of stuff. But here's if you wanted to know what

my candidcy should revolve around. You know, I've told people before,
my favorite Husky running back of all time is Napoleon Coffman.
He was the most exciting. The best Husky running back
of all time is Corey Dllon. He was the most
you know, accolades beyond college. But the most decorated Husky
football player running back of all time is Greg Lewis.
He was packed ten Offensive Player of the Year. He

was first team All American. He was the first two
time thousand yard rusher in Washington Husky football history. He
was the still when I left the head probably twenty
one running back records. I still have one to this
day that's never been broken, most consecutive hundred yard games.

I won the Dope.

Walker Award, given to the nation's best running back.

I was captain of the Rusky Husky Rose Bowl championship team.

the eighty actually get in every year or is it
a different number that get in of the nominees every year.

I'm gonna be honest with you, because I am honored
just to be nominated. There's been thousands and thousands and
thousands of guys who played college football, right, and I'm
honored just to be nominated. So I've never really looked
into how many actually get in, what the real process
looks like. I do get notified each year when I'm
when I'm nominated, or somebody sends me a text or

and emails says, Greg, you got nominated, and I see it,
but I just don't pay a lot of attention to
it because I you know, I'm not in it for
the accolades. I didn't play football for that. I played
it for because I love the game. I had a
ball doing it. You know, you guys know I'm a
Husky hunk through and through love the University of Washington
Husky football. If I do get in, for me, it
would be more of a bringing a light and shining

a light on Husky football, how great the program is,
how great the players that have played there are, and
to continue to, you know, lift Washington up as a
premiere program in college football. So I don't really know
because I haven't paid that much attention to it. But
I would like to win or get in just for
the sake of shigning a light of Husky football.

But it doesn't matter to me personally.

Right well, I'll tell you what.

You may not remember this, by the way, but there
was a moment of weakness. You may have been inebriated,
by the way. In Wisconsin. You looked at me and
you said, softie, if I ever make the Hall of Fame,
you can do my induction speech.

You ever make the Hall of Fame, I'm gonna be
the guy I'm doing the speech. But hey, dude, this

the way, who alerted me over to this idea the
other day. But before you go, we got to talk
a little dogs, right, And here we are. We're three
months away from the game of the year or the
opening game, excuse me, in the Apple Cup Week one

against Wazoo. And you know, all eyes are on that
running back spot right out of Mohammed's at cal Jordan
Coleman's in Denver, your old team in the NFL. What
do you make of what's left the running back here
in Seattle.

Man, you know, this is probably the first time you'll
ever catch me where I'm like.
Speaker 6 (08:25):
I don't know who's gonna be the start and running back.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
I was thinking Washington was the guy hands down, and
then of course the neck injury. Both of the transfers
we picked up have injuries that so they didn't participate
in the spring.

Are we going to start a true freshman at running back?
Speaker 4 (08:44):
I don't. I just don't see it happening. So I'm
a little perplexed. I can tell you what I'm most
excited about. This is completely different from me, and I
know it doesn't answer your question, but I think the
Husky defense is going to be one of the best
defenses we've seen, and you know since since what was
the nickname that we gave the twenty sixteen road This

is going to be the best defense we've seen since
Death Row. I think the linebacker corps is phenomenal. They're
four deep. I think there's four guys that can make
a lot of noise to the linebacker. I think the
secondary is shaping up to be really good, and with
the transfers on the d line and adding the lineous Davis,
you know, back in to have a big senior year

with laying on the outside, you know, getting back to
for him where he was in Arizona. I think the
defense could be absolutely special. So that's probably what I'm
most excited about this year. It's about having a Big
Ten type of defense and shutting other folks down. And
you know, if we don't generate a lot of points,
you know, maybe we win games twenty one to ten,
just like they used to do in the Big Ten.

So that's probably what I think I'm most excited about
for the Husky football this year.

Well, last thing for me, Greg, I got a big
picture college football question for you. You know, you got Senator
Ted Kruz talking to Greg Sanki and Tony Pettiti. You
got Teresa Gould calling for honest conversations about athletes becoming employees.
Do you like this idea of players becoming employees with
collective bargaining rights? Would you want that if you were
a twenty year old Husky?
Speaker 4 (10:12):
I think so yes, because it gives you more protection
and safety. Here's what I think, or here's why I
don't think it'll happen anytime soon. When you talk about employees,
something called workmen's compensation comes into play, right, And so
now you have thousands of college athletes playing football every year,
there's gonna be a lot of injuries. A lot of

people with lifetime type of injuries are now since they're employees,
you have to have protection and pay these guys, possibly
for the rest of their lives for disability. So if
you become employees, I think that's the thing that upsets
the apple cart. Do you make all of these guys
eligible for disability claims in the future, because they're all

going to get hurt in one shape or form, and
some of them are gonna have linking injuries forever. So
I think that's the big problem with declaring him as
as employees.

And not student athletes. So you can keep student.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
Athletes pay him still, but not have to cover medically
for rest in life.

I think that's the best case scenario as far as
their concern.

and good, But I am more focused on spending every
waking minute of the rest of my life to make
sure that you make the Hall of Fame pal all right,

Well, last thing for me, Greg, I got a big
picture college football question for you. You know, you got Senator
Ted Kruz talking to Greg Sanki and Tony Pettiti. You
got Teresa Gould calling for honest conversations about athletes becoming employees.
Do you like this idea of players becoming employees with
collective bargaining rights? Would you want that if you were
a twenty year old Husky?
Speaker 4 (10:12):
I think so yes, because it gives you more protection
and safety. Here's what I think, or here's why I
don't think it'll happen anytime soon. When you talk about employees,
something called workmen's compensation comes into play, right, And so
now you have thousands of college athletes playing football every year,
there's gonna be a lot of injuries. A lot of
(10:33):
people with lifetime type of injuries are now since they're employees,
you have to have protection and pay these guys, possibly
for the rest of their lives for disability. So if
you become employees, I think that's the thing that upsets
the apple cart. Do you make all of these guys
eligible for disability claims in the future, because they're all
(10:54):
going to get hurt in one shape or form, and
some of them are gonna have linking injuries forever. So
I think that's the big problem with declaring him as
as employees.
Speaker 6 (11:02):
And not student athletes. So you can keep student.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
Athletes pay him still, but not have to cover medically
for rest in life.
Speaker 6 (11:08):
I think that's the best case scenario as far as
their concern.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Yeah, well it is, and that's all nice and well
and good, But I am more focused on spending every
waking minute of the rest of my life to make
sure that you make the Hall of Fame pal all right,
So we are on it.
