Go ahead, Dave, what is your favorite Harold story?

Well, I was working as a server at Billy Mchall's
restaurant in Factoria and Harold Reynolds and Dave Winfield walked
in and they went across the street to Big Five
to buy a baseball bat and both these guys signed it.

I still have the bat today.

Every time HR comes on the show, I bring it up,
and I wonder if Harold even remotely remembers that from
like thirty years ago. He's joining us right now on
the radio show. HR it' Softie and Dick Faine. How

Hey, good to hear from you guys. And do I
remember that? Na? Not really?
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Well, I still do and I still.

When Winfield came to town, I'd go eat with him
all the time, and that does not surprise me, So

I swear to God, you know what a deck. I'll
go home, I'll take a picture of the bat, I'll
put it on Twitter. I was like seventeen years old, man.
But Hal Reynolds is with us, and I'm assuming that
you made the top fifty list and you're not just
here to hang out and watch some baseball. So congratulations,
my man. Tell me about what that means to you
to be honored like that by this franchise.

Oh man, it's incredible.
Speaker 6 (01:54):
It really is just being a Northwest guy and the
time that I played is still that be honored. And
it's been, you know, thirty forty years since I've been
roaming around as a Mariner, So to still have that
stand in the minds of people really is quite an honor, and.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
This organization is pretty special at doing that, isn't it.
Speaker 7 (02:14):
I Mean they seem like they've always done a really
good job all the way back to when you were here,
of putting these type of events together.
Speaker 6 (02:21):
Yeah, they're they're phenomenal with their events. And you know,
last night we got a chance to have most of
the guys come back already and we spent time together,
get the chance to talk and shall share stories and
it was just really a unique time. But the Mariners
have always put these things together. I think they picked
the right people that just kind of made the evening

really flow.

So it was a good time.

Well, Harold Reynolds is with us on the radio show.
One of the if not the greatest second basement in
franchise history. Boone would have an argument with you, by
the way, we had who was just with us in
the last hour or so. But go back and talk
about those days at the Dome, man, and when you
guys finally broke through and got to five hundred. I remember,

you know, Alvin Davis, nobody can ever call me a
loser ever again because.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
We got to five hundred.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
What do you remember about those those early nineties late
eighties days with his team.
Speaker 5 (03:16):
Man, Yeah, it was tough, man, a lot of losing.
Speaker 6 (03:19):
But the thing about it was we were just growing
and developing, and you knew you were.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
Gonna win eventually.
Speaker 6 (03:27):
And the crazy thing about it is none of us
ever lost, whether it was in college or summer ball
or whatever.

So to come and lose pro ball games, it was tough.
Even in the minor leagues.
Speaker 6 (03:38):
We whipped through the minor leagues, we beat everybody, and
to get to the big leagues and lose it, it
was kind of tough to handle.

But eventually you broke through.
Speaker 6 (03:48):
And I'll never forget the excitement and enthusiasm and Alvin
and Dave Henderson and guys like that that were kind
of a year or two ahead of me.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
I remember when you guys first made got to five
hundred and Dave Valley cried on the postgame show. Yeah,
I'll always remember that. Dude said, we're winners. We're winners now.
And do you guys find a feel because you know,
three years after you left, I mean, they finally did it, right,
they finally cracked through in ninety five.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
You kind of almost feel like.
Speaker 7 (04:17):
A proud papa of those type teams, those mid nineties,
late nineties, early two thousands teams that you feel like
you kind of built those teams.
Speaker 6 (04:25):
Yeah, And I think that's the cool thing about this
weekend is you're being honored with guys that played on
those teams and they're the first one saying, hey, you
guys paved the way, and that always makes.
Speaker 5 (04:36):
You feel really good.
Speaker 6 (04:37):
I remember coming back ninety five to come watch the game.
Speaker 5 (04:40):
And the slide and just man, it was just.
Speaker 6 (04:43):
Like you wanted to be there, but you felt like
you were a part of it because those guys were
all on teams that you played on, and you watched
them develop and you watch them grow.

It just was really cool.

Harold Reynolds is with us and HR. I don't know
if you've seen the lineup or not tonight. Kyle Rawley's
hitting eighth. And if you would have told me back
in March. So we're playing a game against Tampa in
August and Ky Rawley's hitting eighth, I want to thought
you were nuts that we're thirty games out of first place. Dude,
what do you see going on with cal and what
do you see going on with this baseball team right now?
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Man?
Speaker 6 (05:16):
Yeah, I think one of the things hitting eighth for
him is gonna take the pressure off a little bit
of having to produce. He knows he's not hitting up
to his capability, but I think he's a little bit fatigued.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
He played a lot of baseball last year, from All.
Speaker 6 (05:31):
Star Game all the way around, home run derby catching
every game, hitting sixty home runs, and now the argument
you understand even more while we were screaming he should
be MVP with all the things that catcher takes on,
and I think he's taking that toll a little bit
this year with wear and tear. So hopefully backing him off,
hitting him aids and he starts to get hot right

when it counts, right here at the end in August
and on into September, and he can turn this whole
thing around and be able to to face with a
really good season if we're in the playoffs. If cal
Rawley leads us into the playoffs and plays great, will
anybody talk about the first three months of the year.

Noah, I doubt it, And hopefully that's his perspective.

clubhouse can be so alive one season and so dead

Well, hitting is contagious, and hitting brings the excitement. I know,
it's it's a pitching heavy organization.
Speaker 5 (06:38):
Guys are gonna pitch.

You get excited, But how excited do you get in
the two to one game compared to ten to one.
And when everybody's hitting, everybody's excited, right, So we just
gotta start hitting. I mean that's the biggest thing, and
that will lift everybody's spirits because the pitching's going to
be there.

But if you hit, then.

Everybody in the clubhouse feels good about themselves instead of
just the five or six guys that are throwing.

There was one conversation that went on between two guys
that we were all a bunch of us are standing there,
and one of the guys said that to the other man,
I have not seen you since you got traded. Wow,
that trade occurred over forty years ago.

Okay with that now, we got to go back and
look at trades in the mid to early eighties, yes,
and figure out who the hell hr is talking about. Well,
I know that I know you and Griffy. You and
Griffy have always been tight, and I still remember the
role that you played and him coming back here right
the second time when I think you talked about his legacy, right,

and how much that meant to people in Seattle man,
And I mean as a fan, honestly, I just want
to say thanks for the role that you played in
getting him back, because there were fathers and sons and
mother and daughters that never got to watch him play
the first time around, that did the second time and
you played a role in that.

I was a fan at the time too, and I
was a fan and I played with him. So for
them to get a chance to see him play, it's

there win, and that's that's his impact on the game.

worse for the Mariners. And yet they're only three games

in that in that West and in that Wildcard, and
what are the Mariners legitimate chances?

Well, I think it's legit.

I mean could be three out as poorly as they played,
so to speak, so far to this point gives you
a chance. The American League is wide open. Not just

for they trade off players, they get rid of people,
there's all disarray, it's time out, firing the GM and

of a sudden, the Tigers trade school and then one
game out. I mean, you just don't know.
