Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the rn R Foundation Specialists Broadcast Studio. Now back
to SOFTI and Dick on your Home for the Huskies,
Kraken and the twelfth Man Sports Radio ninety three point
three kJ R FM.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Ten seconds left here in Seattle, this is a ho
with the high slot elers.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Back to lah SUTs that'll say a lot three seconds
to go hah, don'll sern I tell you about so
it's a card A thirty five, say dandy here at home.
It's a two one Seattle tracking win.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
You know, I wonder if our next guest can translate
fits you ease for us? Because all I heard was OO.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Was excited.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
That's how fired up he was. Man, We're all fired
up after that win last night, tremendous win two to
one over one of the best teams in National Hockey
League Carolina. UH and a guy that's I gotta be
a here a happy camper. Dick, the head coach of
the KRACK and our friend Lane Lambert with us right
now in the radio program. Coach, how are you.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Good? Guys? How are you great? Good?

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Let's talk about last night? Man, How satisfying was that,
you know, scoreless first period against a team that was
just crushing people, putting up goals all over the place
in the first period, and you guys shut them down
get out of there with a tie after one. How
how satisfying was that start? How satisfying was that finished
for you?

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
I mean obviously, you know, we knew, we knew the opponent.
They were ten ozho and two coming in here and
hadn't lost, I guess in regulation since probably the middle
of January. I think it was January sixteenth or whatever.
They're good hockey team. We knew they were a good
hockey team. You know, I had seen a lot of
them over in the Eastern Conference when I was coaching
in Washington and New York. So you know, we put

(01:53):
together a game plan, Our goaltender played great, our guys
were committed, and you're right, the start was key because
I think they're about a plus twenty nine in the
first period in terms of goals for and against. So
you know, kudos star guys for for doing the job
last night. It wasn't necessarily pretty, but it's not always
going to be pretty against Carolina Hurricanes. They're a they're

(02:16):
kind of a they're they're a good, good hockey team,
but It's an ugly game whenever you play them, because
they just throw everything to the net. It's it almost
reminds me a little bit of rugby at times. You're
just fighting for territory.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
Well, and just saw Joey there at the end. You
heard the call from Everett Fitzhugh. Just just talk about
Joey in the last couple of minutes there and on
a power play, plus the pulled goalie. I mean, you're
down two men at that point and he's just got
to hang hang tight and keep that last goal out
of the net.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Yeah, he did. You know, I said after the game,
I think we got you know, you got to get
a little sometimes, you got to get a little good
fortune at times. I don't know. There was a couple
of shots that came in. I don't know that he
could even see them, and they ended up going wide.
But that's a credit tar guys too, because you know,
the guys in front of them were putting themselves in

(03:05):
the shot lanes, in harm's way and paying the price. So,
you know, not it's a little bit of a nail
bier at the end, but certainly we're pleased to get
out of it with the win.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Well, Lan Lambert with us head coach of the Krack
and and coach. The last time we spoke up there
at the thirty two Bar and Grill, you were kind
of making it known that, hey, look, we got to
keep the momentum going. We can't come out slow out
of the break. And you came out a little slow
and lost the first two and then have turned it around.
So talk about kind of what you thought maybe you'd

(03:37):
lost with the break and what you've rediscovered these last
two nights.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
You know, it's really it was really dumbfounding to me
because when we were talking at the thirty two Bar
and Grill, you know, I was telling you that we
were having good practices and we did. You know, the
guys worked. I don't have one ounce of regret. Were
our guys work ethic and how they how they competed

(04:03):
in those practices heading into the uh heading into the games.
You know, I just we came out. I thought our executions,
especially in the first game in Dallas was absolutely terrible,
probably the worst I've seen it all year. And you know,
just like it just wasn't used to game speed, I guess,
so to speak. And you know, you can say that

(04:25):
about the rest of the teams in the league, and
and the hockey is getting better and better here after
the first couple of games. But the first couple of
games that every team played was pretty sloppy hockey, not
a lot of execution, and you know, it was that's
kind of where we were at. And I think we've
started to get execute better and you know, be more

(04:46):
in tune with each other, I guess, so to speak.
But you know, disappointing the way we started because I
thought we practiced really well.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
What was the message after those back to back losses
going back home on Saturday night against a very very
beatable team in Vancouver. I know there's no such thing
coach as is a must win game in February or
early March in the NFL, but that in the NHL rather,
but that felt that felt as must win as it
gets at this point in the season.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Yeah, you know, I mean we kind of viewed it
that way as well. And the message was we need
to win this game and don't fear that message, embrace
that message, relish it, let's go get it. And you know,
I thought we did a good job in that game,
and we just have to keep going here. But there's

(05:36):
no question that, you know, I mean, had we not
won the Vancouver game, did that mean that we were
you know, done, No, but certainly we needed those points
to get us back on the right track, and we
got them. And and you know, we've done a pretty
good job here in the last thirteen games. I think
we're nine nine, two and two or whatever it is

(05:58):
at home. So we've we've tried to do the best
we can at home here, and we need to continue
that trend here going forward with the next set of
home games that we have starting tomorrow night.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Well, we know we got a game tomorrow against the
Blues to talk about in a second, but we haven't
talked to you a couple of weeks. So how about
your thoughts coaches, a diehard Canadian and what the Americans
did to your country in Italy last week?

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Yeah, yeah, well, you know what, I can always I
can always go this route with it because I got
my citizenship last May, and so it was like it
was like, yeah, I know, I'm super happy about it,
by the way, and yeah, and you know it was
it was kind of like one of those win wins
for me, you know, So it was a good hockey game.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
You know.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
I woke up at four fifty five and turned it
on and we ended up coming down here in between
the second and third period, and we watched it as
a staff, and a lot of the team was here
on that morning, so there was a lot of ribbing
going on from everybody, but certainly it was an exciting
hockey game and it lived up to the billing.

Speaker 4 (07:04):
Put it that way, coach, trade deadline, what do you
expect this team to do?

Speaker 3 (07:11):
You know, we're looking at a few things. I obviously
have a few conversations with Jason Bottrell, but at the
end of the day, you know, I'm going to coach
whoever we have or don't have, you know, or whatever
we do, and you know, we're looking we're in the
mix here. You know, we're in third place, We're three
points out of first place. So you know, we'll we'll

(07:34):
go from there and take it from there. But from
our standpoint, we just need to continue worrying about what
we're doing on a daily basis, and we need to
stick to you know, we used to getting ready for
that Saint Louis game. Yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Tomorrow night six thirty pre game seven, o'clock face against
the Blues. Hear it right here on the FM stick.
Good luck tomorrow. We're talking a week Coach, appreciate.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Itach, Thanks guys.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
You bet Lane Lambert with US dual citizenship. How about
that we can talk to him an American and Canadian
every time he comes on the radio program. We'll do
that again next week, hopefully after a couple more wins.
All right, here's what we got. Sam Perkins, big Smooth,
was in the house for the UW Wisconsin game on
Saturday when they honored Detliff Shrimp. We'll get his thoughts
on what that was like at four thirty, The Little

(08:19):
Fun with audio at five point thirty. John Wilner of
course at five all coming up on a busy Tuesday
right here on ninety three three KJRFM.
