Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Want to make a little extra pocket change for this weekend? Yes,
I do indeed.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Well, look no further.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Than Paramount Sports' Lee Sterling to tell you how.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
All right, here we go.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
We are back on a busy Friday afternoon. Rick Neuheisel
coming up next segment. But right now, a chance to
talk to our handicapping expert from South Florida in Miami.
Two and three on the air last week, but that's okay.
He's going to bump back with a phenomenal week for.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Us on the air.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
I just know it.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
I can smell it.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
I can feel it. our friend Lee Sterling from Paramount
Sports in South Florida, our professional in-house handicapper.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
How are you, man? I'm good. I'm good.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
I feel like I'm playing with house money with that
Seattle game.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
So not many.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Times you're going to lose your quarterback, be down 10, nothing,
come back and win.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
So excited about that.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Well, let's see if we can get back in the
wind column this weekend. Uh, let's start in college football.
Oregon got pushed around a little bit by Boise, got
out of Eugene with a win, but now they're traveling
to Stillwater, Oklahoma, and they're given 23 and a half
against the Cowboys. What do you think happens there?

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Um, not much to do in Stillwater. Been there, uh,
It is a, like.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
I said, this small little town and the football team,
not very good. I think it's going to take them
a couple years to build this team up here. A
lot of hope that this quarterback might be able to
turn things around here. Just not getting the type blocking,
doesn't have the weapons here. I think the Ducks play
better this week. I think they win this game something

(01:38):
like 45-14.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
Game of the week and maybe the inter-conference game of
the year. Ohio State and Texas in Texas. Texas Memorial Stadium.
The Longhorns giving one and a half to the Buckeyes.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
So went back and watched the tape from last year's game.
And Texas is moving up and down the field. Actually
outstatted Ohio State 336 to 203. But in the red zone,
it was, I mean, bad.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
It was ugly.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Most specifically inside the 10, the play calling, horrendous, the execution, horrible.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
But you've got to give them credit.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
What they did was, in the portal, identified stud-wide receiver
Cam Coleman from Auburn.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
I think he's going to help out a lot.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
And then running back Hollywood Smothers at North Carolina State.
He's one of those running backs. He can make the
first guy miss and a lot of times put a
move on even the second guy. So didn't realize how
good he was, but he's a huge addition for Texas.
They've gone through like five or six backs over the
last two, three years. But I also think that Ryan

(02:46):
Wingo might be a factor in this game. Last year,
he was their number one guy, but he was matched
up against the number one Ohio State cornerback.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
He couldn't do anything.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
So look for him matched up against the slot corner
and the number three guy to have some success here.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
And I think also that Texas might.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
Be able to control the trenches here. Ohio State had
trouble against Indiana and Miami, and they lost some key
guys there. I think Texas, this game means so much
to them. They lose this game. I think it might
be the end of their season. They can only maybe,
maybe afford one more loss. And they've got to play
Oklahoma and Dallas, Ole Miss at home, and then travel

(03:25):
to Texas A & M and LSU Longhorns. Finally get
the signature win, 27-21.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
All right, 27-21 takes Sark into points. All right, Oklahoma,
Johnny Football, Johnny Mateer walking into Ann Arbor, the big house,
where every game is 60 minutes and one second long
in the big house. So Oklahoma's given five and a
half against the Michigan team that, let's face it, controversy aside,
looked terrible. Bryce Underwood looked terrible against Western Michigan last weekend.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
How about the look-ahead line before Michigan played last week
was Michigan in this game minus one and a half.
So the line has won seven points.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Yep. Big seven-point switch.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
And I'm watching the press conference this week, Bryce Underwood.
I think the kid is done. I think he's packed
it in here. I would not be surprised if after
two possessions and if they can't score a touchdown or
field goal, they go to Tommy Carr, Lloyd Carr's grandson.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
So, I think whoever goes against.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
This Sooner defense is going to have a tough time.
They finished top five last year in almost every major
statistical category.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Mateer looks great.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
They added this running back from Colorado State. Didn't know
a lot about him, but he looks like he packs
a punch here, Lloyd Abbott. So I like Oklahoma unless
they turn the ball over three or four times. I
think they're the right side, 27-13.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Love it.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
All right. Dogs D looked great. Offense did not look
great last week. They are now giving 27.5. The money
is being put on the Dogs. It's gone up by
about three points as they take on Utah State.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
And you guys are down all three top running backs.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Am I correct?

Speaker 2 (04:57):
No, they're probably top two. Quade Carr, Jaden Lamar.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
George Washington.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
But he's been out for a while.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
So I really like the top three guys. I still
think that they're going to win this game here. I
watched the tape.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
For Utah State. I don't know if I've ever said
this before.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Their quarterback, Hillstead, he started off at Utah State, played
a decent amount for two years, and he must have
gone on a mission. He came back and went to
BYU for a year last year, came back. He's actually
better at reading blitzes. When you blitz the guy, it
seems like he performs better than But you sit back
in a zone, and he misreads the linebacker a lot,

(05:37):
tries to force things.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Just sit back. He'll throw the ball to you. I
like the dogs here.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
I think they win and cover this game here.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
47-16.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
All right, so we're going favorites across the board all
over the place so far. How about the NFL? Bills
are giving a point and a half in Houston. Josh
Allen's 1-4 lifetime against the Texans, 0-4 in Houston. Will
he be 1-5 or 2-4 on Sunday night?

Speaker 3 (06:04):
I think the best unit here is the Houston Texans defense.
I think they're special, and I think they're going to
be able to get some turnovers here. I also think
that C.J. Stroud last year in the playoffs was playing
with a concussion. He just was not right. And David Montgomery,
big pickup. Not just running the football, really good at

(06:25):
blitz pickups. I think their offensive line should be also
a little bit better here. They get more production out
of their offense.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
C.J. Stroud is close to where he was two years ago.
Look out here. Team favorite, Houston Texans. They win this
game here, 27-20.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Well, here's the thing, too, about the Bills, guys. After
this game, they got the Lions, they got the Chargers,
the Patriots, and the Rams in the first five games
of the year. So it could be a rough start
for Joe Brady. All right, game of the week. You
got something up your sleeve. Kansas State in Manhattan giving
17.5 against the Cougs.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Love this game here. You want to get the right side.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
Kansas State and the Cougs, call 800-400-9741. Give you the
game for free. We gave away last night's game for $ 1.
You want to buy it for $ 1 last night, you
got it. You got the under on that game, easy winner.
We've got the winner tonight, I believe, on the border war.
Missouri and Kansas, just $ 1.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
ParamountSports.com.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
All right.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Lee, great stuff.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
We'll talk in a week.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
See you, man. Thanks, man. See you guys. All right.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Lee Sterling likes Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, the Huskies, and the Texans.
Four favorites, one dog this week in college football and
the NFL. What do you say we get a break?
Rick Neuheisel is going to join us. We're going to
get his thoughts on the Apple Cup, some thoughts on Texas,
Ohio State. And you know that he was greatly impacted
by 9-11. They had to cancel a game with Miami

(07:52):
and reschedule that for November. They got destroyed 65-7. You
remember the day after 9-11, you had 16 Husky fans
that passed away in an airplane accident. In Mexico, they
were on a tour, a part of that Miami game
in South Florida. So that was a real, real, real
big-time impact on Washington football, no question, that year. We'll

(08:14):
get Rick Newhousel to share some thoughts on what that
was like to go through as a head coach and
more coming up next on 93.3 KJRFM.
