our friend Lindsey Theory from ESPN because she's got nothing

the reaction down there in Los Angeles. Who you thought
you'd have maybe a nice easy Monday boom, Miles Garrett
becomes a Ram. So thanks for doing this, dude, number
one and number two. What's the reaction been? Down there,
both inside and out of the Rams facility.

I think no such thing as an easy Monday in
these parts. Right outside of the facility, obviously, it's just
a surprise. I mean I was as surprised as anybody,
and I've covered this team for ten years now. I mean,
but then you stop and you take a step back
and like, well, this is a very actually Rams thing
to do. You know, inside the facility, I know they're

really excited about what they get in Miles Garrett. It
is equally as hard for them to say goodbye to
Jared Verse, who's the actual player involved in the trade.
From the Rams side, I know Seahawks fans are familiar
with him. He talked a lot of trash. He was
a difference maker. He was a good grind in that
locker room. But at the end of the day, you
have an opportunity to get a two time Defensive Player

of the Year, you go and do it. And that's
what the Rams are known to do over the last
many years under lesnin and Sean McVay. And that's what
they did again. Yeah.

Well, the first thing I noticed when I looked at
the draft picks they gave up is they fall on
consecutive years. Right, they give up a first round draft
pick next year, second round draft pick in twenty twenty eight,
third round draft pick in twenty twenty nine. So for
a lot of people, and most of them are Seahawks fans,
by the way, trying to find a way to reason
and justify why this is a terrible deal for the Rams,

I will admit that the cap, excuse me, the trade
compensation to me doesn't feel like such a giant pill
to swallow when you spread it out over the next
three seasons.

Well, it's also not a giant pill to swallow when
you figure this is a team that's annually contending for
the division for the conference as we saw this year,
came down probably the two best teams in football between
the Seahawks and the Rams. Like, this is just a
move that they kind of routinely make. When you look
at what they haven't made in first round draft picks
(02:46):
for the last many seasons. Jared Verse actually their last
and first first round pick as many years. So what
the Rams have figured out a formula to do is
not really need those first round picks, and yet stilty
in contention, you're in and year out, you know. Honestly,
the question right now for so many teams is like,
why are they not following the same model where it

can always financially seem to make it work? And they
had well one down year since Samon Vey rived with
their method to the manus.

Yeah, how does this impact you think, Matt Stafford? I
mean the first thing I thought of is like, well, okay,
they went out and they used what the thirteenth pick?
I think it was lindsay On ty Simpson. Matt I'm
sure wasn't thrilled about. I'm sorry, Matthew, I'm sure wasn't
thrilled about that. How much of this in some ways
was done to kind of playkate Matt Stafford and give him,

you think, his best shot of winning one more before
he walks away.

Yeah, I don't think it really has anything to do
with playcating Matthew Stafford. I think it has everything to
do with the rams knowing that you know, Matthew Stafford's
years are semi numbered. I mean we just spoke to
him a couple of days ago and he's like, I'm
sticking around as long as they'll have me, wink wink.
So he wants to keep playing football, but like how

you don't know like when the end is for Matthew Staffer,
he's going into his eighteenth season. So for the Rams,
it's like they have the roster to win. Now, this
is a move that puts them over the edge. Right
They were talked about as contenders, right if there were
the Seahawks going into the season, and now it's kind
of like no doubt if you just kind of put
the roster's side to side, like the Rams very much

are right there, if not surpassing, I don't want to
get you know, Pummels when I come up to Seattle
this summer. It's not surpassing that the Seahawks roster on
paper right now.

Yeah, Well, that's the thing is that we talked about
this earlier with Hugh Millan, lindsay that if you believe
that last year's NFC championship was the real Super Bowl,
I mean, there's got to be a feeling down there
that the Rams are better, at least on paper today
on the first of June than the Seahawks are.

Is that a common you think belief down there?
Speaker 3 (04:53):
I'm absolute common accurate belief. I think not only down here,
but I think probably across a lot of the NFL,
just giving you know, if you kind of compare the
two teams pound for pound, like I would probably say
the Rams offense had a slight nod, but that Seahawks
defense was just so suffocating and so good. Now the

Rams not only get Miles Garrett, but remember before the draft,
they also traded for Trent McDuffie, which I know is
the familiar name in the Pacific Northwest. So their defense
has really, you know, taken leaps and jumped this leaps
and bounds, I should say, over this offseason. So now
when you kind of put these two teams together, like
what a fight this will be this season?

Yeah, Well, Lindsay Theory ESPN. He also, I mean Jalen
Watson too in the secondary, Trent's teammate in Kansas City.
I think it's sensational what those guys have done over
the offseason. But Lindsay Theory with us ESPN, I'm looking
at his cap numbers for the next three years, and
unless I'm reading something wrong, I don't know if you've.

I'm seeing a guy with pretty manageable cap numbers for
the next three years in l including barely over eight
million dollars this year sixteen and twenty seven twenty one

Soft is June first and you are already so knee
deep in the salary cap. I mean, I don't think
you're missing anything, but I'll be honest, I haven't dug
into it like you do because and this is like

salary cap, it just doesn't really even seem to matter.
Like I'm old enough to remember, like when they took

a twenty million dollars dead money hit on Brandon Cooks
and said, whatever, we'll deal with it another year. Like
just there's something about way they do their books and
they're able to manage their books that whether it's like
a low number a high number, it all seems to
work its way out. Like when they want to add
every superstar in the world to any of these rosters.

Is he going to have a new deal by the
end of the year. By the beginning of the year,
he's going into the final year of his contract Jackson

It seemed like such a no brainer until the off
season hit. It really kind of seems very much to
