College athletics are a mess and the fault is on the NCAA. Coaches' roles are changing in the world of the NIL and while we've been seeing it play out in college football this season, we're already hearing the major impacts this could and will have on NCAA basketball. Stewart Mandel, The Athletic joins us to react to the first CFP rankings, which he says weren't that surprising and almost a rehash of the AP Poll. He breaks down the top CFP teams from top to bottom - who will fall and who could rise? Also, what surprises might we see throughout the rest of the season? Stewart takes us through the major headlines around CFB right now. The Seahawks' season has had its ups and downs, but most lately downs. Florida is keeping Billy Napier and this matters locally because there were rumors Jedd Fisch would leave for that spot if it opens up. Corbin Smith, Seahawks Maven and Locked on Seahawks tells Ian the Seahawks are rightfully ranked at the bottom of the NFC West. Why are they regressing in some areas? Corbin gives us a full-blown ranking of Seattle's position groups and who's to blame where things are going wrong. He also says that this team is playing for a top 3 draft pick next year without Geno Smith. If the Seahawks continue to lose, should they commit to a potential *horrid word* rebuild? Jake Dickert spoke with Ian yesterday whether he and the team are hearing noise surrounding the college football playoff. Ian also pressed him on his future at Washington State and Coach hopes Ian isn't the kiss of death like he was last year. The Daily Power Play!  Brandon Funston, The Athletic kicks off the unofficial start of the weekend! He anwers all of the loyal listener fantasy football questions for this week. Listeners line up.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Ty time?

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Remember the best way to get your question answered, of course,
would be on the phones, and we'll do that coming
up at two o'clock this afternoon. We played that Jake
Dickert sound. There's a couple of things that jumped out
from him yesterday Greg during his show and Chris played
a chunk of Gary Parrish from yesterday that has a
lot of people talking. And you heard a little bit

(02:47):
from Jake Dickart as well about college football playoff. But
we're gonna there's like three things with Dickart that we
got into yesterday, bigger picture things. One college football playoff
that was his comment there. They they really don't control
anything if they finish eleven to one, they'll hope for chaos,
but chances are it won't matter. But eleven one's historic

(03:08):
season and good for them. And they're, as he said,
they're trying to build something. That's what they're trying to do.
And I get that, which brings us to we'll play
his stuff with his future and what he wants to
do at one thirty, just a little clip from that,
but I said he wants to build something. I'm still
reeling from and shaking my head over understanding this guy

(03:30):
is that Gary knows what he's talking about from his
comments yesterday that Greg replayed at ten thirty today, and
just if you missed it, our college basketball insider Gary
Parrish brought up what's going on with college basketball in
the next month. Already, a top player who'd been paid
one hundred and fifty plus thousand dollars at Memphis walked

(03:51):
into Penny Hardaway's office and said, I need more and
they said no, and he said, see.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
You, Gary's got sources.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
He's yeah, he's that's his alma mater, he's in Memphis,
and but that like so that happened already. But what
he said yesterday Jess that expect in December some guys
to leave school, not play the rest of the year,
and then re enroll in another school for depending on
because whether your quarter or semester, you're done at Christmas

(04:23):
break and then re enroll at some other school after
the first year and not gonna be able to play
the second half of the season for a new school,
but you'll re enroll and be ready for next year,
but you'll be on their payroll for their collective. And
he brought that up and I'm like, wow.

Speaker 4 (04:38):
But yeah, that's.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
That's the way we live in now. And for all
the people that pound their chest, Nicole Auerbach and others
pay these guys they should have complete and utter free
agency and freedom. Really, there's no other walk of life
where you're getting compensated like that, where you can just
walk away after collecting money and not fulfilling your obligations.

(05:02):
There's no other place that you can do that. There's none,
not in sports, not in business. You can't just walk away.
But now we're okay with that. The bigger thing is,
I don't know if you're at Montlake Futures Cougar Collective.
Let's just use the two ones in our state. I'm
not sure what Gonzagas is called. Northern Quest Casino, Uh no,

(05:26):
lie brewing. But if you're at those collectives and we're
I've got some things a noodle around, you're not gonna
talk about when you get some guys on. Because the
stuff from Dickert was the same way.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
Dit.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
It's like, yeah, guys already getting pached. Guys already getting poached.
Nothing you can do about. They're already getting third party
what have you. I mean, it's one thing when Jade
Delora takes a campus visit with fish and goes to
Arizona during a bowl week and lies about where he is.
I mean, that was greasy enough. Now, the funny thing
is Wazoo was great with it, like, you know what,
we don't want you here. So that's fine, And that's

(05:58):
why they didn't report it. That's why they didn't say
anything about That's why they didn't care.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
I was auditioned by subtraction.

Speaker 6 (06:03):
That was yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
I was pissed at the time. But the more I
talk to people in Pullman, they're like, yeah, man, how
he handled it, how he did it, how he lied
about it.

Speaker 7 (06:13):
Weird.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Jane DeLaura is a liar. It's also a rapist, uh,
sexual predator. I mean all those things. Civil suit tells
me that. So I'm not I'm not disparaging the guy.
It's just what it is, and so it's out there.
It's out there. But like I mean, at the time,
I was stunned and I was mad and I was bitter.
I'm like, what are you doing? You just won the
Apple Cup? You know you're a Wazoo legend. No, actually,

(06:33):
you're really somebody we don't want on campus and don't
want part of the football program. But you lied about it.
You went to Arizona, and you know, then Jedfish found
out that maybe he didn't like what he got with him,
and he ended up starting the other kid. So like
Noah Flafida, who was better but smaller. Yeah, but but
but he was better and he was a better kid,
better human being. But that stuff, when that happened, I'm like,

(06:56):
how can this happen? How can how can Arizona do
that to a fellow conference member and not being the
punishment while they care, But that's a rarity that teams
don't care. That's a rarity most of the time. They're like,
wait a second, you can't be calling our guys. You
can't be calling our dudes and doing that. I mean,

(07:19):
Washington's got a stud freshman. You think there aren't people
going to be reaching out to him pretty soon? Especially
when Gary's like, yeah, Washington's Ken Palm has them as
the worst team in the Big Ten. You think it,
You know he You don't think that's gonna happen. Its
gonna happen everybody, and you've already paid these guys. It
is every day I think college athletics are broken, and

(07:40):
it's like, Wow, they're really broken right now. Well, then
something like our conversation with Gary happens, You're like, they're
broken beyond repair. They're broken worse than I thought. But
how if you're a collective person, how can you, in
good conscience go to somebody and say, hey, write a check.
I mean, Dicker's asking for it in our area yesterday.
Jed Fish as asked for publicly all the time too. Hell,
there's a spot running in the Husky football broadcast. I

(08:02):
heard it last weekend when I was dropping home from
doing our cracking game. There's a spot for the for
Motley Futures, with Jedfish voicing the spot. He's the voice
on the spot, we need your money for Molly futures. Well,
if you're a booster, why the hell would you write
a check when you think that there's no guarantee that
you're gonna the guy that you want to keep or
the guys you want to keep plural are gonna stick around.

(08:23):
They just take your money and walk away. We're gonna
go like, yeah, I'll take your I'll take your money.
Jed absolutely, you know, here's her collective. Wontley Future. Write
a check for a guy and say, you know, left
tackle number one. He gets a check. Then all of
a sudden, Ryan Day from Ohio State's calling and say, hey, man,
why don't you drop out before the bowl game. We'll
see you in January. You enroll it at Ohio State.

(08:44):
You're gonna come here and make this. Now you've double dipped.
Now you've doubled dipped, and basketball is even worse. I
pay the guys, compensate them if they deserve it. I
think we're all for that. This wide open, unlimited free agency,
but not having to fulfill contracts, not having to fulfill
your obligations. I also have to put at some point,

(09:06):
these kids are young men are eighteen to twenty twenty
two years old. What the hell are the parents?

Speaker 7 (09:12):
You know?

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Where they are walking around their hands out exactly, just
just put her hand, palm out one hundred percent. That's
what they are.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
That's how you tell.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
But what are you learning here? What are you getting
out of that?

Speaker 6 (09:21):
That?

Speaker 2 (09:22):
The life lesson is embarrassing?

Speaker 6 (09:24):
Right?

Speaker 2 (09:25):
I love college football. I love college basketball always will.
It would take more than this to get me to
not watch games and not be invested emotionally and watching
all these things. But it is broken, man, and there
is no sign of fixing in the near future. But
the games go on. So we'll talk to Stuart Mandel
about just that. First college football playoff rankings are out.

(09:46):
We'll get to that coming up in just a couple
of seconds. The weekend has an enormous game as far
as that's concerned, LSU Alabama. I see LSU by the
way as a live Tiger coming back for that game.

Speaker 6 (10:00):
New Orleans Zoo.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
I love that. I love Yeah, we haven't had you
know what this feels like the game to bring back
to live tigers. That feels like the game to do that.
And so here they are. We'll get to all that
coming up Mandel with us.

Speaker 1 (10:11):

(11:10):

And of course we'll talk about Stuart's got a podcast
Bruce Felman as well all there at the Athletic dot Com. Hello, sir,
how are you.

Speaker 8 (11:19):
Hey?

Speaker 2 (11:19):
I'm good, buddy, I'm good. We have some rankings that
I don't know if it matter yet in week eleven,
but we have some rankings called the College Football Rankings,
the CFP rankings, the first ones ever win in a
twelve team playoff format, came out on Tuesday this week.
It was the only big event on Tuesday in our
country this week, and so that's the one we focus on. Stuart,

(11:40):
what jumped out at you if anything from the CFP
rankings first week?

Speaker 9 (11:46):
Well, I had talked myself into it being really eventful,
and then it came out and was basically the eight
people rehashed, So I can't say anything was too surprising.
It just kind of confirmed how I thought they would
view the teams in this new landscape. The big ten
in the SEC debut as in a kind of a
different ballpark for the most part than the Big twelve

(12:08):
in the ACC, with a couple exceptions. You know, obviously,
they're treating Miami about the same as they probably would
have been, you know, in the old conference alignment. So yeah,
you know, you look at YU. They're undefeated in a
in a power conference and they're behind four or five
one loss Big ten SEC teams. So just kind of

(12:30):
reflects where we are today with the the perceived Power two.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
They're in the power too, the Big ten and the
SEC along the way. Let me let me go with
a couple of things here, because you had a male
bad question I thought was a really good one. I
hadn't even I hadn't even thought of this because when
they came out, when those rankings came out, and we
start thinking about who could be in the twelve team field,
you know, I've assumed a lot of assumed all along
that Oregon would be there, especially after the beat Ohio
State at home. They sit there at nine to zero.

(12:57):
Could we, in essence, actually have an or team with
the win at home against Maryland, which will happen, and
improving to ten and zero is Oregon in probably no
matter what if they win this weekend.

Speaker 9 (13:11):
Yeah, I'm the same way. I had not thought of
that at all until the person asked that question to me,
and I thought about it in thought, huh, well, we've
always said ten and two in the Big ten or
SEC is probably gonna get you in. And if they
win this week. The worst they're going to do is
ten and two. So I think the answer yes, especially
when you beat Ohio State and you have that on
your resume, that team, even if they end on a

(13:33):
two game leading streak, can fall from number one in
the country.

Speaker 7 (13:35):
To number thirteen.

Speaker 9 (13:36):
Probably not.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
They go and Oregon has Maryland, then they go to Wisconsin,
and then they have a game against what's that team
called again? Oh this the Doggies, the Huskies, the Puppies
down in Eugene to finish things off, and then a
big ten championship game along the way.

Speaker 7 (13:54):
All right.

Speaker 9 (13:55):
The thing right, neither of that if they lost those games,
neither of them would be considered a bad los.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
No. No at Wisconsin and Washington's playing better. You know,
we'll see what they do against Penn State. What what
what came out of Penn State Ohio State other than
Penn State gets its first loss Ohio State, you know,
avoids that second loss. But what were your takeaways from
that game? Because I watched it start to finish, and honestly, Stewart, I,
even though it was a close game, I just felt

(14:20):
in a lot of ways that Penn State felt like
they were outclassed yes, it was a twenty thirteen game,
but I just felt like Penn State was outclassed in
that game.

Speaker 9 (14:27):
Yeah, it was kind of groundhog Day for Penn State,
you know, even after all. I mean, it was so similar.

Speaker 7 (14:32):
To last year's game.

Speaker 9 (14:35):
In Columbus where the final score was a one score,
you know, final score, but it never felt like last
Date was going to lose. There was a brief moment
after the Will Howard picked six and they're down ten
to nothing. Okay, maybe this is going to be a
different day, and then you realize pretty quickly, yeah, Penn
States offense isn't going to do anything, which you know,
for the fans is very frustrating because they changed coordinators

(14:57):
and it's a much more creative scheme and drew out
you know, statistically has been a lot better and same result.
Now they could turn around and win out and you know,
that's a really eleven and one, that's really good season.
But the fans there are just really frustrated with James Franklin.
Even though he does win ten eleven games a year,
it's great that they just can't beat the elite teams

(15:20):
like Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
Do you think Stuart that an undefeated nine to zero
Indiana team. They play Michigan this week. Do you think
Indiana can absorb a loss and still make it into
the College Football Playoff?

Speaker 9 (15:36):
It's a great question, I think, you know. I feel
like for such a dominant team, people still aren't fully
bought in. And I get it. It's Indiana, right, not
a traditional helmet team.

Speaker 7 (15:48):
I think the Ohio.

Speaker 9 (15:48):
State game is going to be their season. Basically, it's
the one chance they have to prove they belong with
a program like Ohio State if they don't win. But
it's close down to the wired game. I don't think
you can look at that and say, well, they're not
a top twelve team. I think the problem Bernia would
be if they got blown out and then it's like,

(16:09):
well they're eleven and one.

Speaker 7 (16:10):
But who are the eleven?

Speaker 9 (16:11):
So they just really are on the wrong side of
the unbalanced Big ten schedules. Yeah, I mean it's crazy
to say that, Like beating Michigan this week isn't really
gonna do that much for their resume, right, it's all
about that Ohio State game.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
Well, I bring that up for that reason you said
about the helmet and I think there is we still
are talking about a human element here, right, there's still
a subjective nature, a human element here. I don't think quite.
I mean, I don't know how subjective it is. Maybe
that's unfair of me to even say that. Stuart and
correct me if I'm wrong. When we get to March
Madness every year and we get to the field of

(16:48):
sixty eight and they have the data in front of
them and they're looking at it, and they're like, okay,
quad one, quad two. Do you have a quad four loss? Yeah,
you've got one, and you've got a quad three loss.
But all these things come into play and you have
all these these different numbers. But sometimes still like Tom
is Oh Michigan State, they get in every year like
he never misses it has a missed tournament, and I

(17:09):
don't know, I think it's close to twenty years how
long he's been there. They always find a way to
get in because it's Michigan State and it's is Oh
coaching the team. Indiana is not a traditional football powerhouse.
So that's why I bring that up, because I think
they're still like can a three loss Alabama team still
get in over a one loss Indiana team? I guess
would be the question.

Speaker 9 (17:30):
Yeah, I don't.

Speaker 10 (17:31):
I mean.

Speaker 9 (17:33):
I think in basketball they play so many more games
that the data kind of speaks for itself at the end.
I mean I've done that mocks seminar in Indianapolis and
it you know, I mean I used to do the
bracketology for Fox when it's there and the thing, and
I I can confess this now, I didn't actually watch
that much college basketball. We really just how many top

(17:55):
fifty wins they have, you know, et cetera, et cetera. Right,
football is much more subjective because so a few games.
And I do think the committee has rand biased, because
we all do. And you actually heard a little piece
to that from Warden Manual on the media call afterward.
He was asked about, you know, Miami and buy you

(18:15):
are both undefeated, neither of them has like a necessarily
a big win. Why is one number four and one
number nine? And his answer was, I tests, And I
mean I mean, have like your eye tests. If you've
been watching Miami, they've had a lot of close calls, right,
They're not out there steamrolling people. And so I kind

(18:35):
of took at his code for you know, Miami has
won five national championships I think and is a is
a even they struggled recently as a pretty big brand
and buy us not. You know, they've just joined the
our five last season, So I do think that plays
a part in my committee roop.

Speaker 5 (18:51):
Yeah, I think.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
I mean, there's just we can't you can't entirely take
the only thing you take the human element out of
is pro sports. You know, when it's a here's the calculations,
win in, don't win not in as simple as that,
ties are broken by tiebreakers and all those things. Super
Mandel joining us from the Athletic Theathletic dot Com. All right,
let me let me get to BYU, because I'm fascinated
by what's going on. I think you and I talked

(19:12):
about it a little bit last week. You know, we had
Jake Dickard on yesterday, Wazoo's coach, and you know he
kind of downplayed it and listened to we're being honest there.
They are very very much a long shot. I'm more
curious and hoping for the chaos. It could allow Boise
State to leap frog the Big twelve champion and find
themselves into maybe a buye what have you. Along those lines.

(19:33):
Let's let's get your read on the Big Twelve. BYU's undefeated,
they sit the top, but Ioways State with one conference loss,
Colorado one conference loss, Kansas State one conference loss, Texas
Tech two conference losses. Those teams are all very very
much in and along the way, what do you kind
of kind of handicap what you think could maybe will

(19:55):
happen down the stretch in the Big Twelve.

Speaker 9 (19:59):
Going into of the season, most of us looked at
the new Big Twelve, which doesn't really have a you know,
a helmet school, and thought that's gonna be a lot
of parody. And I think for the most part that's
that's been the case, except the UYU to this point
has been kind of immune to that. They did have
a close call against Oklahoma State at home a few
weeks ago. The most part, they're just taking care of business,

(20:21):
and I don't I feel like at this point I'd
be surprised they don't win the conference. Kansas State, you know,
lost last week. That was a team that I thought
could still win it, but now they might not make
the conference championship game. And then you've got Colorado, who
some people might not want to admit it, but they're
they're good now, they really are, and they're right in
the thick of it, and they have a very favorable

(20:42):
schedule down the stretch, so I wouldn't rule them out either.
But you know, they've lost two games already byu Has,
I mean, they've done everything they possibly can. In terms
of the Boise State thing, I thought that actually was
the most significant facet of the rankings was that they
were number twelve, same as there on the APOL Because
over the last ten years I've seen the committee time

(21:03):
and again they're always lower on the group of five
teams than the polls are. And they and they were
with Armies because they're stickhorse for schedule strength and these
schools don't generally play great schedules, but they clearly respect
Boise State. Where Banuel said it afterwards, I think they're
effectively treating them like a power five team. And so yeah,
there's absolutely a path there for them to finish above

(21:24):
the big twelve campus. They went out and by you
you know, stumbled at these ones.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
They're friends, Boise States, friends about four hours south down
in Salt Lake City, not in proval in Salt Lake City,
rooting for that to happen. This week when Utah takes
on b Yu and what we apparently aren't allowed to
call the Holy War anymore, but I cover it for
does a lot of years and I liked it. It
was only word. Still yeah, they call it that themselves.
Yeah they and still is, even though ironically almost everybody

(21:53):
playing in that game has some sort of connection to
the old tested Stuart Maddel joining us. Is there any
chance George's playing for its college football playoff life this
weekend when they take on number sixteen Old Miss Georgia
has one loss this season.

Speaker 9 (22:09):
I think they need to they you know, they've played
such a gomblets. They play almost this week on the road.
That's not an easy game. They host Tennessee the next week.
They're a top ten team. I think if they win
one or the other, they're in.

Speaker 7 (22:22):
Pretty good shape.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
Because now you've got.

Speaker 9 (22:24):
Wins over Texas Clemson, another top ten.

Speaker 7 (22:28):
To fifteen ish team.

Speaker 9 (22:31):
Can be hard to leave that team out, even if
they lose another game, or if they get the SEC
championship game but lose. So not quite there yet, but
getting closer.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
You got I gotta I gotta send people to the
to Stewart's mailbag this is awesome when we do. And
you talked about doing the brackets and going through that
exercise before, and you know, whether it be the Jerry
Palms of the world and all those guys that do
that now they always have the next four out and
the next four out after that, last four in next
four in all those types of things you were asked
to do. What was it this the uh, the next

(23:04):
twelve teams for the bluff.

Speaker 9 (23:06):
That sarcastically, you know, we did Like, I'm you know,
he's right. We do a lot of playoff content, we
have projections, we have brackets. Well, we'll watch like and
maybe it's too much. I don't know, it's the first
year figuring things out. Yeah, And so he was very
sarcastically like, why don't you just do another bracket of
the next twelve teams? And I was like, Okay, sounds good,

(23:28):
let's do it.

Speaker 7 (23:29):
Uh.

Speaker 11 (23:29):
It was a fun exercise.

Speaker 7 (23:31):
I actually screwed it up.

Speaker 9 (23:32):
I accidentally left.

Speaker 7 (23:33):
I was stay out, but.

Speaker 9 (23:35):
I was like, I'd watched this. Hell yeah, played a
tournament tomorrow, I'd watch it.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
This would be what I'd want to see in like
some of the ball Like I'd want to see the
if these teams, aren't it if you give me, like,
for example, an Almo Bowl or something with what would
it be Colorado versus Army, like all day Dion against
the against West Point. Yes, I'm watching. We're all watching
at that point, right, Uh, Texas A and M or

(24:03):
Louisville versus Clemson in SMU South Carolina versus a Pittsburgh
team in And how about this is the one I
really liked Alabama, I think is what you would say.
Alabama would get the winner of Washington State and Iowa
and that game would be in the poll loose in
December and the snow jess ud on the sideline for
that and I would.

Speaker 3 (24:20):
Love every cold, damn second of it.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
Stewart I sarcastic or not. I love those brackets. Give
me those games, Give me those games all day.

Speaker 8 (24:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (24:31):
I mean, well, it's what's gonna be interesting over the
next few years to see what because us of Bowl games. Yeah,
I can't like that. It's always been.

Speaker 7 (24:40):
About ticket sales, a little bit TV.

Speaker 9 (24:43):
But mostly like they count on people to travel to
the games, and they want if you're the alimable, you
want a fan base that's gonna be really excited to
travel to San Antonio. But if it becomes like, yeah,
this is the I we're not going to travel to
this and it's just basically a TV program, then I
would do that way. So what you know, you're showing
the game, what would you most want to be the alimable?

Speaker 7 (25:05):
Right?

Speaker 9 (25:06):
Yeah, you want it to be you know, uh Deon
versus Lane Kiffin, Like that's that's that's a good matchup,
right yep? But right now, you know their wed to
their conference partnerships. Sometimes you get ball games where you know,
as a team that's not necessarily playoff teams that they're
they've had a great season that they weren't expecting to

(25:28):
have and the fans are very excited. And you have
other teams like whoever bowl game USC goes to this year,
if they go to a bowl game, you know, good
luck selling tickets for that. Like their fans are so disappointed. Yeah,
so yeah, I think better matchups would be great.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
I don't think US season trouble. I think to get
to a bowl game, right, they're two and five, they
can only afford one more loss, and yeah, we'll see
what ends up happening with him, all right. I do
want to get to a little bit of coaching stuff
before they goes to a mendel with us. So we
saw today Florida anounce their athletic director. Hey, Billy Napier's
coming back, So he's back. We all kind of were
wondering what would happened with that particular job, what what

(26:05):
might be? And we know Lincoln Riley with the buyout,
he's not going anywhere at USC, So what might be
the big jobs that could be open at the end
of the season.

Speaker 9 (26:15):
Well, it's pretty interesting because right now I would say,
you know, the answer to be none. Yeah, right, it
could be the quietest coaching carosel ever. And I think
what we're seeing is with the revenue sharing coming, the
schools can't afford to pay thirty million dollars buyouts right now. Now,
that's like there might not be many firings, But what
they could be is what if Mac Brown retires at UNC,

(26:37):
What if Kyle Whittingham retires at Utah? What if somebody
There's always somebody that goes to the NFL that you
don't expect. Right last year we saw.

Speaker 7 (26:45):
A Power five coach Chip at.

Speaker 9 (26:48):
Boston College, Just Halfley take an NFL coordinator job. Ye men, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
so jobs will probably come open one way or the other.
But what we're seeing is coaches who were on the
hottest seats like the your like aver Rianda Baylor, are
playing their way off of it, so that you know,
people are kind of expecting like the usual carnage, pink

(27:10):
slips and whatnot. Doesn't look like that's coming.

Speaker 2 (27:14):
We like to hear that in the polue. By the way,
all right, Stuart, great stuff as always tell us about
the podcast. What you got going on there with with
Bruce and all the things at the Athletic, Theathletic dot com.

Speaker 9 (27:26):
Yeah, so, like I said before, if you're tracking the
playoff race, especially for Washington State, Van, I mean, there's
no shortge of content on the Athletic right now. And
Bruce and I did our episode this week right after
the rankings came out. Kind of quick reaction to that.

Speaker 7 (27:39):
Also, Mike Dundee.

Speaker 9 (27:41):
Basically accusing all his neggative and the people criticizing his
program of not being able to pay their bills and
being losers in life. So we got into that, asked.

Speaker 4 (27:51):
Goodness, Yeah, I have that on automatic downloads, so when
I get in my car in the morning the earlier
than normal.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
Yep, that was the first thing I heard was your podcast.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
Is Gundhi's not in trouble at all?

Speaker 9 (28:02):
Is he than.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
She's She's a loyal, loyal listener.

Speaker 9 (28:07):
I don't think so.

Speaker 7 (28:08):
But yeah, they're twelve.

Speaker 9 (28:10):
Like, if this keeps going and he's insulting the fans,
you know, he could get pretty nicey And.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
That's what I'm looking at. They're owing six and the
Big twelve. They're three and six overall. It is interesting
that you mentioned the b YU game. I watched that
they had that game one that that game they had,
that game won with less than a minute to go,
and their defense just absolutely gave it up. But but yeah,
it's and that kind of goes back to we said
Miami should probably not have beat cal at Cal they did,
b YU should not have or b y you should

(28:36):
not beat OCLA. To say they did, Hell our school
is a great example. There's three games they shouldn't have
probably won. They came back in the end. Good teams
find ways to win, and that's why b y U
is probably where they are and and in Miami is
where they are as well. Great stuff.

Speaker 9 (28:46):
Stewart you're winning all the both games that Lincoln's losing.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
That that's well because we our coach knows who our
best players are, like you know, like we he gives
He gives them the ball, like when you have a
stud running back and all of a sudden he doesn't
play it all in the first half for Lincoln Riley.
I don't quite get that either, but Husky fans were saying,
that's okay, keep doing that, Lincoln. All right, we'll talk
to you next week's Dowart. Thank you.

Speaker 7 (29:12):
All right, there you go.

Speaker 2 (29:13):

Speaker 5 (30:08):

(30:33):
with Corbyn Smith talks some Seahawks here in about ten
minutes time. Top of the hour. Our Week We Visit
brought you by Soul by Jym, kind of just get
a good feel heading into this bye week of where
this team is, what they're looking forward to. You know,
I felt like Monday with the Seahawks was really a
venting Monday. You know, people will call it over reaction Monday,

(30:57):
whatever you want. I don't think it was. I don't
know if it was overreact action. It was just the
reality of where they are. It's been a really frustrating
season for that football team and fans the highs of
a win over Atlanta, Denver looks better, but yeah, it
was still Bo's first game, so it kind of hard
to give you too much credit in that game. And frankly,
they were awful for the first half. Was Seattle in

(31:18):
that game, but they came back to win. But you
look at the Atlanta game, is a nice win. But
those wins just are so few and far between lately.
So we'll kind of get his thoughts. Any In the
bye week, Kyle had a time to take a deep breath,
relaxed a little bit. It doesn't change the math. They've
got to go six and two down the stretch to
have a chance at the playoffs, and I think that's
really hard to do. Just to wrap up the Stuart

(31:41):
Mandell conversation for a couple of minutes here before we
get to the top of the hour, the news came
out today from Florida that they're keeping billion apier at
the University of Florida. Now there are When Jedfish took
the job at Washington, the first thing everybody says, well,
he's only going to be here as long as the
Florida job's not open. As soon as that job's open,

(32:02):
he's going to go to Florida. Napier's now four and
four on the season two and three in the SEC.
Has a freshman quarterback banged up, Yes, but a guy
that apparently has kind of tied at the hip with Napier.
That helps if you have a guy that's a stud
that likes the coach and all those things. But he's
not going anywhere. They made an official announcement today from
the athletic director at Florida. He's not going anywhere. And

(32:24):
that's why I asked, you know, Fish has the reputation
for being a vagabond, go take whatever job here there,
you know, and all that, and rightfully. So the resume
tells you that Jake Dickard could have a ten to
eleven win season for Wazoo playing an independent schedule with
really everything stacked against you. Pretty impressive resume piece. So

(32:47):
those are two guys that people would have talked about.
But I think what Stewart said is an interesting dynamic
because I was thinking that even the last couple of days,
there may not be a big time job open or
a better job for Dickart right now. And you're gonna say,
wait a second, and we're gonna play some sound from
him coming up at one thirty today, because you can say, well,
he's playing for nothing. He's not even in a conference today.

(33:10):
He's not. But he'll articulate why that's actually not going
to happen in the next two years. So he started
looking around, like what would make sense, well for either coach, really, Fish,
would you have an opportunity to get a bigger job
than Dickert period and a story Dickert Fish, what he
did Arizona and then coaching at Washington, that's a big job.

(33:31):
But probably nothing's going to open up that would entice
him something. We could be surprised by someone going to
the NFL maybe, but this could be, as Stuart Mandel said,
the quietest year we've had on the college football coaching
carousel in a long time. You look at what happened
last year just on the surface, and all you have
to do is just look at the playoffs. Saban retires,

(33:54):
Harbot of the NFL, the Boor goes to Alabama, Washington
job opens up, just the Michigan job open opens up,
all those It's a crazy year. Might not happen this year.
I kind of even look at it like bottom feeders
and some of the bigger conferences. Mississippi State's zero to
five in the SEC. They're two and seven overall. They've
already changed their coach once in the last well twice,

(34:16):
the untimely death of Mike Leach and then his introm
then replacement, then got replaced again. They're probably not going
to do anything. Kentucky's not a great job. You're in
the SEC.

Speaker 5 (34:26):
You can't win.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
That's why we're going to play this sound from Dickert
coming up at one thirty. There's nothing saying he's gonna stay,
but when you listen to his words, it would take
something pretty damn good to go. And I don't know
if that would exist this year. I just don't know. Again,
maybe somebody goes to the NFL from a big program

(34:48):
that's got a great infrastructure, great collective, all those things
in place, but sometimes you gotta be careful what you
ask for as well.

Speaker 4 (34:54):
Yeah, from my experience, it would take some moving some mountains.

Speaker 2 (34:59):
They're going to have to pay him at some point.
They have to pay him if he if he gets
ten eleven wins, they got to pay him this year.
But I do think is he'll tell you when we
play that sound. He wants to win. You know, Mike
Leach is a good example. It's a good it's a
it's a good example of grasses noise greener. You know,
he built himself back up, built his reputation back up

(35:19):
at Wazoo. He couldn't replicate that at Mississippi State, and frankly,
how could he. He's in the SDC now. Monetarily, he's fine,
closer to where he wanted to be in Key West.
But there are certain jobs can you win? Maybe not?
All right, we'll take a break, come back. We'll hear

Speaker 7 (37:29):
I'm great? How are you good?

Speaker 6 (37:31):
Sir?

Speaker 2 (37:31):
I'm good, I'm good. I'm good. Bye week. Take a
deep breath, relaxed, get ready for the stretch run the
final eight games of the year. I want to look
bigger picture mid season. Get some thoughts from you and
all the position groups Gino Smith, coaching staff, all that
fun stuff. In a second, Let's quickly, though, look back
on the game that was the Rams last Sunday and
what you.

Speaker 12 (37:51):
Saw, well, I don't know any other way to sum
it up than that the Rams were literally giving a
early Christmas gift the entire second half, and the Seahawks
just decided we aren't interested in taking it.

Speaker 7 (38:05):
And that included it over time too. This was a
game that absolutely had to.

Speaker 12 (38:09):
Have and all the stars were aligned to win this game.
I mean, they held the Rams at thirteen points on
offense and regulation.

Speaker 7 (38:18):
You should win that game every.

Speaker 12 (38:20):
Single time, and the fact that they were not able
to get it done, it just magnified a lot of
the issues that are really holding his team back and
that's why they're not under five hundred and in the
last place in the division.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
Well, let's do this. Let's let's let's look at the
stretch run with this lens. I believe, just based on
NFL math, that Seattle will need to win six of
its final eight to get to ten wins and have
a chance of the postseason. Am I overly pessimistic or
do you think that's pretty close?

Speaker 7 (38:50):
Nope? I think that's about right.

Speaker 12 (38:52):
I mean, maybe five wins can get you there, but
there's you know, the NFC North has loaded, this conference
has got a lot of teams right now that Seattle's
twelfth right now in the NFC standing. So getting to
the playoffs with nine wins, as they've learned the last
couple of years, you're playing with fire when you're doing that.
If you can get to double digit wins, then you

(39:14):
have a pretty good chance of getting into the postseason.

Speaker 2 (39:16):
Do you believe Arizona? Do you believe in Arizona?

Speaker 7 (39:20):
I do.

Speaker 12 (39:21):
I think that Arizona has a really good young football team.

Speaker 7 (39:26):
They've got some interesting pieces. They were one I.

Speaker 12 (39:29):
Remember you and I talking about this in the show
in August. They were a team that I kind of
thought could be sneaky. And the fact that nobody else
in the division has been able to step up.

Speaker 7 (39:39):
And post a winning record.

Speaker 12 (39:41):
You know, Arizona has been able to consistently be in
a position to win games. They've blown a couple teams out.
They beat the Rams. Believe it's forty one to ten
that game. There's a lot of good pieces in Arizona.
The defense is to me the biggest question mark but
offensively they can play with anybody.

Speaker 2 (39:58):
Everybody does their power ranking. So if you were to
do NFC West power rankings one through four is Seattle four.

Speaker 12 (40:05):
Yep, right now they would be. I mean, you've lost
five out of six. I mean, I don't know how
you can put them any higher than that.

Speaker 8 (40:12):
Do.

Speaker 12 (40:12):
I think they can improve that standing, absolutely, But I
mean they're the worst team in the division record wise
and on the field on filmed they've been the worst
team for the last five or six weeks.

Speaker 2 (40:24):
Corman Smith joining us sold by Jim sold bygim dot com.
All right, let's get to it. Let's take a step
back and take a bigger picture, broader view of this team. Corman,
You've watched OTA's mini camps, training camp, and now the
first nine games of the season. What's your evaluation of
the coaching staff from the head coach Mike McDonald through
the rest of the staff.

Speaker 12 (40:46):
I don't think that Mike McDonald has necessarily had a
rough first season. I think that the defense you're seeing
some adjustments being made. I loved what they did in
this game against the Rams, So I think you're seeing
a young coach that is learning how to make those
adjustments and give the defensive coaching staff some credit for
that too.

Speaker 7 (41:05):
Ryan Grubb is the one.

Speaker 12 (41:06):
He and Scott Huff right now are the ones that
would not have passing grades for me, because for whatever reason,
Ryan Grubb has not been able to get the running
game going. It seems like they are just kind of
hitting their head on the wall trying to get that
to work. You're not seeing an emphasis at all on
play actions some of us because you're not running the
ball and teams aren't taking your playfake seriously. But there's

(41:27):
too much of an emphasis and shotgun. They've put Geno
Smith in a spot. I mean, I don't know why
you would do that behind one of the worst offensive
lines in the NFL, but that's what they've been doing.
And it just doesn't seem like they are justting well
enough on that side of the ball to try to
help their quarterback and try to maximize the skill player
talent that they have.

Speaker 7 (41:45):
And the offensive line. I mean, look, Scott Huff.

Speaker 12 (41:47):
It's halfway through the season. There's got to be some
improvement from that group. And honestly, Ian, I'm seeing an
offensive line that's getting worse, not better right now. So
I understand that Mike Durrell being out there as a
fourth string or that things.

Speaker 7 (42:01):
I'm not looking at him as part of the problem.

Speaker 12 (42:03):
But you've got a number of guys that have been
in that lineup for most of the season and they're
taking steps backward or at best.

Speaker 7 (42:11):
They're flat lining.

Speaker 12 (42:12):
That cannot be happening, especially when you're your first year
offensive line coach. So he's the one I've actually got
the lowest grade for at this point, just because the
on field results, they're not getting better, they're getting worse.

Speaker 2 (42:23):
Yeah, I think the thing that's disappointing to me about
that offensive line is if you say, listen, they're on
their four string right tackle, then you go, okay, well
they're gonna have an issue there. But they've had issues
on every spot on that line. We talked to everybody.
Steve Pelizoli yesterday thirty thirteen. He still kind of has
a little pff in him. He's like, oh, you know,
Charles Cross had a good year, And then I'll talk

(42:44):
to Greg Cosell and others and they'll say, yeah, I
don't know if Cosell. If Cross has had a good year,
he's been the best of the worst offensive line. That
just means you're you know, you're the tallest short person Like,
I don't know what that means. Really, it's in the
interior line. Corbyn, You're right there feels like there's regard
Russian as opposed to progression. Is that on the coaching

(43:04):
staff or does that go bigger picture that's more on
the personnel side of things.

Speaker 12 (43:09):
I think you got to look at personnel first, because look,
this has been John Schneider's weakest point his entire time
in Seattle.

Speaker 7 (43:17):
Some of it's the way that he deprioritizes the position.

Speaker 12 (43:20):
Just remember the comment this offseason that guards are overdrafted
and overpaid.

Speaker 7 (43:25):
Well, maybe the Seahawks should.

Speaker 12 (43:27):
Start paying some money in drafting a little higher at
that position. But you know, they haven't been able to
find guys regardless of where they've drafted, that have been
long term answers. I mean, Russell Kong is the last
Pro bowler on the offensive line that was drafted by
John Schneider and that was literally his first draft pick.
So between that and not being willing to spend money

(43:48):
on offensive linemen to really bring in proven commodities that
can help the group, you got to look at the
front office. But again, the coaching staff, you can't look
at them either and say they're completely omitted from this,
because again, you know, Connor Williams was a Pro Bowl
caliber player and he has been awful the last three weeks.
Can't snap consistently to Gino Smith. I don't know what's

(44:10):
going on there. It feels like Rick Ankeel for the
Cardinals back in the day when he forgot how to
pitch and couldn't throw activity. That's that's what it looks
like to me, is like the confidence is shaken for
him and the guard spots.

Speaker 7 (44:22):
I mean, Anthony Bradford.

Speaker 12 (44:23):
You just gave him the starting job and then he
had his worst game of the season in my opinion,
against the Rams. So you've got to look at the
coaching staff too. I think everybody has a hand and
the struggles.

Speaker 7 (44:34):
Going on in that offensive line.

Speaker 2 (44:35):
All right, let's let's get to some the other one,
the big one, Gino Smith. What's your evaluation of him
so far?

Speaker 12 (44:41):
I think Geno Smith is not deserving of the criticism
he's getting. And look when I was in the press
box and I saw that first interception he threw in
the red zone the other day, that throw of medium
was like that cannot happen.

Speaker 7 (44:54):
But you go back and you watch the replay.

Speaker 12 (44:56):
His elbow got hit when he was throwing the ball,
So I.

Speaker 7 (45:00):
One hundred percent believe him.

Speaker 12 (45:01):
He was trying to throw the ball out of the
back of the end zone. That's what he was trying
to do. And said his arm got hit. The ball
fell way short and it landed right in the guy's arm.
The other interception, AJ Barner got held by a defensive
lineman and.

Speaker 7 (45:15):
It wasn't called.

Speaker 12 (45:16):
So I just I look at the game and the
fact that threw for almost three hundred and seventy yards
in that game.

Speaker 7 (45:22):
He willed him back to overtime, marched him right downfield,
and then they took the ball out of his hands.

Speaker 12 (45:26):
They ran at three or four straight plays and they
can't run the ball. So I know there's a lot
of fans out there that are getting frustrated. We've seen
it on a Lockdown Seahawks podcast. I don't know how
many people this week put Sam Howel in. Sam Howell
was sacked sixty five times last year in Washington and
led the league interceptions. You want to put him behind
this offensive line? Gino Smith the fact that he's still

(45:49):
leading the league in passing yards with the pressure that
he's had. I mean, ian he's twenty fourth according to
Pro Football Focus.

Speaker 7 (45:57):
In time to throw in clean pock.

Speaker 12 (46:00):
That should tell you all you need to know the
amount of duress he's been under. The fact he's done
what he's done is pretty remarkable.

Speaker 2 (46:07):
Well, I think the difference is when you watch Geno
with an opportunity to just rip it, his arm, talent,
how he throws the ball, where he throws it. It's
not even close to what we saw with Sam Hall,
whether it was with Washington last year or even in
training camp, mini camps and OTAs like. I want to

(46:29):
blame Gino because the quarterback for everybody is always the
easiest thing to blame. But I think that they have
honestly four wins as much as anything because of Geno.

Speaker 12 (46:42):
Yeah, this team is playing for a top three pick
without Geno Smith. I mean, that's the honest truth. I mean,
they can't run the ball. Their offensive line I think
is the worst in the NFL. Their receivers are really solid,
but it doesn't matter when you can't pass protect the
fact that he's been able to do what he's been
able to do you.

Speaker 7 (47:00):
I mean, and you mentioned the arm talent.

Speaker 12 (47:02):
The first touchdown he threw to Jackson Smith and Jigba
on Sunday on that crossing pattern, he threw it side arm.
I mean, I don't know how he got it where
he got it, but it was a perfect throw. I mean,
he's got arguably top five arm talent in the league.
And you're gonna make some tough decisions and some bad
throws when you are under duress all the time. And

(47:24):
Seattle just cannot do anything to help because if they
could run the ball a little bit, it would slow
down the passwords.

Speaker 7 (47:30):
They can't run the ball.

Speaker 12 (47:32):
I don't know where you go trying to fix that.
If the offensive line isn't gonna be better, you know,
I'd plug Christian Haynes in, but they just don't seem
like they're interested in doing that.

Speaker 7 (47:41):
So I don't know what the solution is at this point.

Speaker 12 (47:44):
But Gino Smith is the last thing that should be
viewed as a problem right now.

Speaker 2 (47:48):
Gorvin Smith joining us sold by Jim two ms dot com.
Go check out the website for your real estate needs.
Sold by Jim two ms dot com. Okay, other side
of the football. What's jumped out at you on the defense.

Speaker 7 (47:59):
Ernest is an absolute stud. That's the first thing that
jumps out to me. What a difference it makes to
be with the team for a full week. I mean,
this team.

Speaker 12 (48:08):
Has been missing that component at middle linebacker where a
guy can just get downhill and blow plays up.

Speaker 7 (48:15):
There was a play I believe it was the one
yard line late in.

Speaker 12 (48:18):
The third quarter on Sunday that he just rocketed into
the backfield and blew up Kyron Williams for tiyard loss.
That's the reason that la only got a field goal
on that drive because of that play. And he had
a near pick, it was deflected as the line of scrimmage.
So I'm not going to blame him for not being
able to catch that ball. That's really tough to do.

(48:38):
But he showed he can drop back in.

Speaker 7 (48:40):
His hook responsibilities, and he has the athleticism. He took
away some of those fifteen to twenty.

Speaker 12 (48:45):
Yard crossers that the Rams have just killed the Seahawks
with over the years because of his athleticism.

Speaker 7 (48:52):
That is a game changing addition.

Speaker 12 (48:54):
So I believe the run defense has a chance now
to actually turn the corner and this not be mirage
because of his presence in the middle.

Speaker 2 (49:03):
It's it's one of those hey, great job Schneider and
personnel guys. But the other side of it is you
really missed with Baker, right, Like, you really missed there.

Speaker 12 (49:14):
Yeah, that was you know what it was one year
deals and that's what they opted to do when Jordan
Brooks was no longer an option to bring back, and
ultimately Tyrol Dotson's playing better at the other spot too.
If they would have known that, you know, go out
and get another mic. That's what they ended up doing.
And this is what fans have to understand when you
have a new coaching staff that comes in, like, you're

(49:35):
not just gonna instantly have all the pieces that fit
their personnel like. It just doesn't work that way. So
these rosters are going to be fluid for a year
or two trying to get all those pieces together. So
Ernest Jones is going to be part of that equation.
I believe that there's probably discussions on an extension going
on right now behind the scenes, because this is going

(49:56):
to be a Leonard Williams type deal where we gave
up a little higher pick so that we can ensure
that we can get this guy and we can get
him signed.

Speaker 2 (50:03):
A long term Corbyn. The biggest picture of all I
think is is where they go down the stretch, depending
on how the season looks and all that. And I
think we're all of the you know, you and I
are in the same mindset that it would take something
pretty spectacular and maybe unexpected, and that would be winning
six of your final eight to get into the postseason.
So let's say they go five and three or four

(50:26):
and four down the stretch and end up eight and
nine or nine and eight, miss the playoffs. The word
that they hate and will never use publicly in that
building is called rebuild. What do you think they should
do this the rest of the season moving ahead, because
they have pieces in place. They're not like a team
that was, you know, destitute like a Carolina a couple

(50:47):
of years ago. Still maybe still extend Chewa, Hubbard whatever,
or even Houston pre CJ Stroud, et cetera. What do
you think the bigger picture plan is for this organization?

Speaker 7 (51:01):
Well, if they do not make the postseason, which as
you said.

Speaker 12 (51:04):
They're gonna have to have a heck of a turnaround
to get into the playoffs.

Speaker 7 (51:07):
But if they do not make the postseason. I guess
the one positive.

Speaker 12 (51:11):
Here, I don't think you need to do a complete
retool and just rip the roster apart. I think you
have a lot of pieces that you can build around.
But they've got a salary cap situation that luckily, there's
some things they can do well. Tyler Lockett has been
a fantastic player, and I think that there's gonna be
some discussions about what they can do to try to
restructure rework his contract to keep him around. But his

(51:34):
current deal twenty five plus million dollar cap hit, he's
not gonna be here next year. On that Draymond Jones,
he's had one good game this season. They are gonna
have to revisit that. Is he gonna be on this
roster next year. You've got a few guys on that
defense that are older players that are gonna.

Speaker 7 (51:52):
Be having big cap hits. What do you do on
that front?

Speaker 12 (51:55):
You got guys like Roy Roberts and Harris he traded
for that are gonna have decent sized cap hits next here.
So they've got a number of players that they can
move on from or adjust their contract to be able
to create some cap space.

Speaker 7 (52:07):
But I think that this is kind of one of
those mid.

Speaker 12 (52:10):
Build type things where you've got a lot of pieces
that you can win with, but they're gonna have to
continue to turn over the roster to try to get
guys that they're gonna be the best fits both short
and long term for Mike McDonald.

Speaker 7 (52:23):
So I don't think this is a full rebuild. I
don't think you rip everything down, but I think.

Speaker 12 (52:28):
You might have to go closer to the studs if
you're gonna get over the top, and that could even
mean trying to find your next quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (52:35):
Okay, well, I was just gonna ask you that you
leave me right into that because you know the geno
and the money and where they go and all those things.
The other part of the equation is, you know, no
matter where you're drafting, there is no guy like last year,
you could probably say, out of the six guys when
the first round, you're gonna hope maybe four the six
are gonna be you know, gonna be good at some point.

(52:57):
But there's no even surefi our first round talent at
quarterback in this particular draft. So that's that's the part
I find kind of perplexing a little bit because So
what do you do then, Like, do you maybe take
a shot at a guy in the third round or
something and hope he pops And well, that guy could
still be Sam Howell, Right, So what do you do there?

Speaker 12 (53:17):
The issue they're gonna have the in and this was
discussed before the season. Sam Howell's got one year left
in his contract after this year, and so when are
you gonna get a look at him? So I will
say this, I'm as big of a Gino defender as
there is out there.

Speaker 7 (53:32):
But if the Seahawks.

Speaker 12 (53:33):
Somehow just continue to free fall and they end up
in a position where they're gonna lose double digit games,
I think late in.

Speaker 7 (53:40):
The year, you've got to look at Sam Howell.

Speaker 12 (53:41):
You got to see what he can do at that point,
because that's gonna be dictating what you choose to do
in the future. And if he plays well, then you
may have a decision already made there.

Speaker 7 (53:51):
If not, This is my opinion on this quarterback class
coming in.

Speaker 12 (53:55):
As you said, I don't think there's there's not an
elite guy at the top. I think Shador Sanders is
probably the best quarterback in this class, and there's certainly
some flaws.

Speaker 7 (54:05):
In his game. There's a few guys that I.

Speaker 12 (54:07):
Think could sneak into the first round discussion. Those that
follow my ex they know I love Indiana Hoosiers quarterback
Curtis Rourke. I think he is the guy nobody's talking
about that they should be talking about. But somebody like
that might be available late first or into day two.

Speaker 7 (54:24):
That could make sense.

Speaker 12 (54:25):
To somebody that you could learn under Geno Smith for
a year and then just turn the page over to
him in twenty twenty six. But I don't think they're
gonna be the position to get one of the top guys,
especially in this class where you don't want to trade
up necessarily to try to reach for somebody.

Speaker 2 (54:41):
And I bring that up. I'm glad you brought up
Sam Hel because I don't even have to look at
my text line right now, don't even have to do that.
But I know on the text line every day we
get people saying, why don't they just played Sam Hell,
Why don't they just play Sam Hell? And you guys
and they say, you guys in the media, you guys
just dismiss it. Dismiss it. Well, because we were round
it Washington training, we saw the rotation. We saw there
was no competition we saw that was decided. Was too close. No,

(55:03):
it wasn't even close. But I'm with you. I mentioned
this the other day. I'm you and on the same page.
I think the part that jumps out, or the part
that will happen if they and my goodness, it could
easily happen right with their upcoming schedule as they sit
there at four and five, okay, at the forty nine
Ers versus the Cardinals, you lose those two games, and

(55:25):
all of a sudden you're sitting there at four and seven, right,
and you're almost out of it. Jets, Let's say you
win that one, but it's on the road, and now
you're five and seven. You lose at the Cardinals and
you're five and eight. You're done. You're kind of done
at that point. So then you got Packers, Vikings, Bears,
Rams left. That's I think when you do give at

(55:46):
that point, you have to give sam Hal at least
a look if you're out of it.

Speaker 12 (55:51):
Yeah, you absolutely have to, because again, you know, if
you had two years left in the contract after this year,
that maybe changed things a little bit, but you're not
gonna have a chance to evaluate him in regular season
competition in Ryan Grubbs's offense, You're.

Speaker 7 (56:05):
Not gonna get that chance if he doesn't play at all.

Speaker 12 (56:08):
So I am of the belief that if the Seahawks
stay in this race that you absolutely do not do that.

Speaker 7 (56:13):
But if they fall out.

Speaker 12 (56:14):
Of it, then you've got to start looking towards the future.
And Sam Howe maybe part of that, but you're not
gonna know that if you don't see what he does
on Sundays.

Speaker 2 (56:25):
Where can people find all your work, podcasts, everything else
you're doing, especially during this bye week, My friend, I've
always locked on Seahawks.

Speaker 7 (56:32):
You can find us five six.

Speaker 12 (56:33):

Speaker 7 (56:50):
Thanks grabbing me as always, man.

Speaker 2 (56:52):
That is our good friend, Corbyn Smith. He is absolutely fantastic.
Love getting him on every week, does a great job
all covering the Seahawks each and every week. Our guy, man,
We love Corbynsmith sold by Jim dot Com. Sold by
Jim dot Com. All right, we'll take a break, we'll
come back. We're gonna play a little sound from Jake Dicker.
We'll revisit our college football conversation from earlier where the

(57:14):
you know where we're headed. And also as far as
as far as he's concerned, I asked him about sticking around.
It was a fun conversation. Also found out Jake Dicker
has a long memory. We'll do that next.

Speaker 1 (57:27):
Live from the R and R Foundation Specialists broadcast studio.

Quick straphole here on the text line, just a quick
straphole hole. Okay, has anybody listened to dudes on dudes?
And would you even be tempted to listen to dudes
on dudes?

Speaker 4 (58:00):
I feel like that would be more of a watch
on YouTube situation.

Speaker 2 (58:06):
I just there's no part of me that would I
maybe it's because no, I hate the Patriots. Yeah, I
might be part of it.

Speaker 4 (58:13):
I find both Gronk and Julian Edelman insanely entertaining for
various reasons. Gronk because he's just one dronk all the time.
Edelman's actually pretty comedically funny. Yeah, but I have no
interest in that podcast though.

Speaker 5 (58:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (58:29):
Four. Have you listened to it? Or is it just
drive you insane when you hear about it all the time.

Speaker 4 (58:33):
I think that might be the insanity part, the driving it,
you know, driving nuts, just from hearing the same exact
thirty second promotion.

Speaker 2 (58:42):
It's now made me miss our old, our old podcast promo.

Speaker 3 (58:47):
Basketball in the Philippines.

Speaker 2 (58:48):
Basketball in the Philippines.

Speaker 4 (58:49):
Yes, Oh, it's been drilled in here.

Speaker 2 (58:54):
The worst cassidy and basketball in the Philippines. I bring
that in. Keith Miller, I see you, I see you.
I see you, Keith Miller with dudes on dudes, I
see you. Okay, all right, okay, let me uh. Yesterday
we had Jake Dickard on, head coach of Washington State,
and we love having we love having him on. He's fun.

(59:14):
Got to talk to the There's a couple things we
wanted to get to. One we just spent the last
hour we were talking Suer Mandel about college football playoff.
Let's start with the first cut. I asked Jake Dickard
yesterday during the bye week if he addressed the college
football playoff and the even remote but somewhat still a
possibility for Wazoo to get there.

Speaker 11 (59:32):
I did not, didn't really, we obviously was after our
meetings last night. We had practice today. I just addressed
everything during the bye week, you know, I say, guys,
there's gonna be a lot of noise, a lot of
things that are just completely outside of our control. And
there's one thing that we can control, and that's showing
up every day to deliver our best and go out

(59:53):
there and compete for the four guaranteed games that we have.

Speaker 2 (59:58):
Yeah, I just win. Can't control anything at this point.
The one game that you could control, you lost and
lost pretty handsomely to a guy that hopefully I think
should win the Heisman and Ashton genty.

Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
But ends a very highly ranked team in the country.

Speaker 2 (01:00:13):
Yeah, number twelve in the college football player. I mean,
that was your chance. If you would have beat them,
then you have a chance still outside because you're not
a conference, But yeah, you still have a chance. All right.
That's the first thing. The second thing is, and we
just talked to Mandel about this it's an interesting season
coming up in the off season. We do believe it's
an interesting one because it doesn't appear right now like

(01:00:36):
there's going to going to be any major jobs open.
There will be a few that probably you can't win at.
But Florida's retaining billion Napier. They said that today Lincoln
Riley ain't going anywhere. Just the buy out in the
money is what it is. In fact, he was on
site today when they did the groundbreaking on their new
football facility at USC with gen Con. So what does

(01:00:58):
that mean? Well, I did have a chance because a
year ago I do the same thing. There are rumors
about Jake Dickard going and interviewing with Michigan State job
that eventually went to Jonathan Smith from Oregon State. But
I asked him about his future. What about Jake Dickard.
I hear rumors that there's contract talks. Are you Are
you a guy that really wants to be there for
a long time or you're gonna have people calling you Jake?

(01:01:19):
They probably already have.

Speaker 12 (01:01:21):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
What should Cougar fans know about Jake Dickard and long
term at Washington State?

Speaker 11 (01:01:27):
Well, hopefully this isn't the Ian fernest kiss of death,
because that's what you did after Week four last.

Speaker 12 (01:01:31):
Year in.

Speaker 2 (01:01:35):
Wait you time out, time out. How in the hell
do you remember that? I do, by the way, because
you know what I'll tell you. I remember what I
did the interview. I did the interview with you in
a in an airport in Cincinnati after covering the Hawks
the day before, so it was kind of a bat
I remember that exactly. The fact you remember that is
killing me. But anyway, go ahead, I continue.

Speaker 11 (01:01:54):
Well, I just think it's one of those things. I
think it's a fair question. And everyone knows how much
I appreciate here, everyone how much I love it here.
This is my job. I poured every ounce of everything
I got into it. My family loves it here, and
we want to continue to invest. And heck, I don't
get into rumors. I get into reality, and we're excited
about here and what this football team can be and

(01:02:16):
what we're building through the future. And that's what I
talked about earlier. We got a heck of a roster
and I'm really happy with our young football players and
what we're building here because the reality is now ian
going into twenty twenty six. In that Pac twelve. We
got an opportunity to win a football championship here and
we know how hard that's been. Right, And I've told

(01:02:36):
this like I've always wanted to reward President Schultz our
university for having the belief in me to give me
this opportunity. And we now have a choice. We can
be the top dog and the biggest investor and the
best budget and all those things. We continue to do
it the right way, and I think that's an amazing
opportunity that, to be quite honest, really energizes me and

(01:02:59):
our football program.

Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
And that's the key. I mean, not every job that's
at a Power five conference, power four, I should say
conference school is better. That's that's I think that's the
one thing I would I kind of took away from
what he said there is that not every one of
those jobs that he will be at some point rumored
to be interested in or a candidate for, are better.

(01:03:23):
Maybe the pay is better short term, I mean he's
making he will be making millions at WAZO, so but
the pay could be better, Sure, your resources better, all
those things there is maybe, but you can't win and
in college football as a coach if you take a

(01:03:43):
job that you can't win at and you know you
can't win at Like I'm just like, let's just go
through here. Like in the ACC, for example, Virginia techs
five and four, the Beamer era of being at a

(01:04:04):
top five, top ten team is long gone. Can you
win there? Maybe maybe you go back there and win there,
Maybe that if that ever opened up. Georgia Tech is
kind of on the rise a little bit, but again,
five and four Wake Forest isn't gonna win a football.
They're four and four this season. That's a great year
for them. Dukes of basketball school in North Carolina, Mac
Brown leaves, maybe you look at that, but you're always

(01:04:25):
number two. You're you're a basketball school. Bronco Menhaal is
a really good coach. He couldn't make it work long
term at Virginia and then of course go by the way.
Just a side note, it does make my heart happy
and it does put a smile on my face.

Speaker 3 (01:04:43):
This is for someone failing right.

Speaker 2 (01:04:45):
To look at the ACC.

Speaker 4 (01:04:48):
Ah, we were kind of talking about that the off
air this morning.

Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
Yeah, to look at the ACC standings. God, I don't
even know how many team hang on a second.

Speaker 5 (01:04:56):
Let me, I got it.

Speaker 2 (01:04:56):
This radio radio math, three, four.

Speaker 13 (01:05:00):
Five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen,
seventeen team conference the Atlantic Coast Conference. In that seventeen
team conference, the fifteenth in the team in fifteenth place
would be the Trees of Stanford.

Speaker 4 (01:05:18):
The Academic Institution of Stamford.

Speaker 2 (01:05:20):
One in five in conference two and seven. Overall, you
know who's in the last place in the seventeen team
Atlantic Coast Conference. Who is wait for it, seventeenth out
of seventeen. You guys should be good at math there
at cal right, it's you guys. How's that working for
you right now? Zho to four in conference play? Anyway,
Just there are jobs out there that would just be hard,

(01:05:41):
that would just be hard. I think that was his point,
and he likes the idea. And this is why we've
seen coaches for a while. Chris Peterson State forever at
Boise State. Hey man, I canna build something fun at
Boise State, and every now and then I'm gonna pop
and play New Year's New Year's Day game, whatever it
might be. Before he came to Washington eventually, which was
the perfect job for Chris Peterson. If there's a perfect
job for Jake Dickart. Yeah, hell yeah, he'll take it.

(01:06:03):
And I think Wiscnson always would come to mind like that,
I mean going back kind of home. I think that
would come to mind if but Wisconsin's probably not opening
up anytime soon. So I think it's an interesting dynamic
he's in right now when he's saying, hey, give us
money for nil, I want to keep guys here. I
think kind of on a much smaller scale, kind of

(01:06:24):
like Napier and his quarterback at Florida are joined the hip.
I think that might be a tear and Jake Dickert.

Speaker 4 (01:06:30):
I one hundred percent agree with you, And I think
that Coach Dickert probably and I don't think he was
chirping him at Tear's ear or anything, but we all
saw what was going on with cam Ward right there
was probably some reassurance that he'd have a shot there.

Speaker 3 (01:06:45):
And I just I can't reiterate it enough.

Speaker 4 (01:06:48):
With what you hear on the radio, or see on TV,
or see on a podcast, anything that he appears on.
He loves these guys, not just as his players.

Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
He truly is the last of.

Speaker 4 (01:07:03):
The young coaches that believes in what coaching is all
about from the old school mentality, and I think this
is one of the last places he could actually do
just that.

Speaker 2 (01:07:17):
Yeah, I mean, he's not going to be there forever,
but I think he might be there to see at
least the start of the new conference in two years.
Is that That's kind of the impression I got from
him yesterday. All Right, take a break. Lot's going on
with the Kraken. There's an injury. We have a goalie injury.
We'll tell you about that. We'll also tell you about
what the lineup could look like. Is Dan bilesman? He
messing around? Man? Is he going to send some more

(01:07:39):
send some more guys tomorrow? We'll find out next Balkin.

Speaker 7 (01:07:42):
Shoots wanted on Goldie Clucks and they start.

Speaker 14 (01:07:45):
It's crasby stop. This is the daily power Play Deep
Slot one timer M Kenneth now Iports Radio nineteen waiting
for k t.

Speaker 7 (01:08:06):
R F M.

Speaker 10 (01:08:08):
You know, I think the the strength of our team
is that we have a group of twelve.

Speaker 5 (01:08:16):
I think that you know.

Speaker 10 (01:08:23):
Players, there are some players in lead that get to
the twenty twenty one minute range.

Speaker 5 (01:08:29):
I think you know, we asked Jared to do a
lot pour play penalty kill and that.

Speaker 10 (01:08:39):
You know, takes a little bit away from his five
on five time, and certainly that's something you look at
as a coach to see if he's getting on the
ice nothing the right spots to be to to do
what he is doing, which is, you know, our our
leading scorer and you know scoring all those goals for us.

Speaker 5 (01:08:58):
So it I also think that there's a there's a.

Speaker 10 (01:09:04):
Return value on the minute too, So giving him twenty
one minutes might not get you the return that.

Speaker 5 (01:09:14):
There is a sweet spot. There is a.

Speaker 10 (01:09:19):
Amount of ice time and the appropriate amount of ice
time when it's given that he can be productive in
the seventeen eighteen minutes.

Speaker 2 (01:09:28):
Dan, But I's been talking about Jared McCann strength of
his team is depth. But Jared McCann right now is
the strength of their team, make no mistake about it.
Sixteen points in fourteen games, over a point per game. Obviously,
no other player on this team is it a point
per game. Brandon mont Tour just under that ten points
in thirteen games. Everly and Veniers are getting there, but

(01:09:49):
they're they're quite a bit below that. So Jeed McCann's
averaging about seventeen minutes of ice time a game, just
for context. That's that's decent. It's good. I think the
question probably would have been, you want to see him
on the ice more, but he's killing penalties, he's on
the power play, and you can't overuse him. He's been
a stud. This team's scuffling and struggling and had four

(01:10:11):
straight losses to end the road trip, went one and
four on the trip. They say, play Vegas tomorrow when
they come home. So it's been a little bit. It's
been a little bit so far of a struggle bus
for Dan bilesman his first year. But I'm telling you
the thing about like about this guy. He wears his
emotions on the sleeves. He tells you when he's pissed off.
Watch our post game shows with the Krack and Hockey Network,
listen to Mikey on the Crack and Audio Network. You'll

(01:10:33):
know when Dan biles was not happy. You're gonna know
that he wasn't happy before the last game and they
played better, still lost in Colorado, but he had some
guys on the bench, specifically Oliver b Yorkstrond, who was
All Star for them last season, hasn't been happy with
Yorky's performance. There's a lot of other guys I'm looking
at you thirteen, looking to you at ninety five that

(01:10:55):
have him produced like you would hope now they did
at least for a day. Send John Hayden, Ryan Winterton
and Cale Flurry back to Coachella Valley doesn't mean they
won't be here tomorrow. But here's Dan bilesmhan I asked
about what goes into that benching guys, I.

Speaker 5 (01:11:14):
Think you know, just.

Speaker 10 (01:11:18):
Both from a team standpoint and an individual standpoint, you're
assessing the expectator, you know, the expectations that you'd be
set that we're trying to set for the team and
the group and how we want to play.

Speaker 5 (01:11:30):
And that goes for individuals as well. And we saw Oliver.

Speaker 10 (01:11:35):
Not play in Colorado and other guys get a chance
to go in the lineup and do it.

Speaker 5 (01:11:43):
And Oliver's going to get a chance to do it
tomorrow night against Vegas.

Speaker 2 (01:11:47):
Yeah, he's back in. There's no doubt those guys are down.
We'll see if somebody comes up and someone else hits tomorrow,
if they just go with what they have, because right
now they have nobod the extra no extra bodies. They
will bring an extra goalie in tomorrow because apparently Philip
Grubauer got hurt at home yesterday on the off day.
I'm the last guy that's going to say anything. I
found out I've got a torminiscus. How taking a walk
with an old man walk that's also put my football

(01:12:12):
lineman's weight belt on. Or wait, vest On, that probably
was the reason you.

Speaker 4 (01:12:17):
Got the twenty five year old brain in the forty
five year old bumpy.

Speaker 2 (01:12:21):
However, I am not a thirty one year old goaltender
in the National Hockey League, so I don't know what
he did, but hopefully he's back. So it sounds like
just a short term thing a couple of days. So
they'll bring up somebody from Coachella Valley to backup Joey,
who will start tomorrow night in the game against Vegas
again that game seven o'clock, six to thirty. Pre game
the captain. He'll be in Network Central, which of course
is section twenty. If you're walking around Climate Pledgerita, go

(01:12:44):
give Mikey a fist bump, Go say hi to Mikey.
You can't miss it. Section twenty. Core's light right there,
can't miss him.

Speaker 3 (01:12:53):
Two reasons to visit.

Speaker 2 (01:12:54):
Just go give him a little fist bump. What's up, Mikey?
How's Network Central? Say hi to him. He'll be there
at six thirty for the game show seven o'clock Drop
of the Puck. We got it on the crack at
Hockey Network. I think it's a king game to morow.
That means Linda cones back. Don't come see Yes, we
don't want to talk to you.

Speaker 3 (01:13:10):
Linda's super nice.

Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
She actually is really nice.

Speaker 3 (01:13:12):
She is like one of the most lovely people.

Speaker 2 (01:13:15):
Linda Cone might be as nice a person as we
have in this business. I don't want to talk to you. No,
I do come say hi. We're actually in the spacing Allege.
We've got a lot of people go hey, what what
you guys? And you know what crazy?

Speaker 12 (01:13:24):
You know?

Speaker 2 (01:13:24):
A wild thing is like it's like the best kept
secret in Climate Pledge. The spacing Allunge is for everyone.
Anybody can go up there.

Speaker 3 (01:13:31):
Oh it sounded so fancy.

Speaker 2 (01:13:32):
I know right. You're kind of thinking like, I can't
go to the spacing a lounge. No, anybody can go
to the space in a lounge.

Speaker 3 (01:13:38):
Is just inviting people, You're just inviting.

Speaker 2 (01:13:40):

You can hear that game right here on KJR. Ravens
Bengals feels like a big fantasy game, which means we're
talking right now to our friend because it's the unofficial
start of the weekend with Brandon Funston, i'ms is right on,
there's a long past. Here's side guy.

Speaker 1 (01:15:16):
Who's the leading face of fantasy sports. Even though you
can't see him, trust us. It's time for Ian's weekly

Speaker 2 (01:15:45):
Tell me that doesn't put a smile on your face.
Tell me that doesn't put a smile on your face.
Knowing that the weekend is upon us, you hear that
we got NFL football tonight, Big game Fantasy implication. Fundstand,
we don't get games like this. It feels like on
Thursday and now all that often we're like, there's a
lot of fantasy on the line tonight.

Speaker 6 (01:16:02):
Absolutely. I was just going to bring that up because
it's Thursday night. It's a big game, you know. Sunday
night you get Detroit and Houston, and then you got Monday,
you got Miami and the Rams. Those are three of
the four like highest expected scoring games of the of
the weekend. So the primetime should be awesome this weekend.

Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
All right, let's get it going. You know where we do?
We start up in Edmonds, where our friend Mike. Mike's
first up. What's up?

Speaker 6 (01:16:23):
Mike?

Speaker 8 (01:16:24):
Hi, Hi Brandon, I Mike. I had a great conversation
with Jess and like most women, she's probably under page.
So you guys take care of her place.

Speaker 3 (01:16:35):
Shout it to the skies, Mike and Edmunds.

Speaker 6 (01:16:38):
Let's go.

Speaker 2 (01:16:39):
Well, listen, listen, Mike, I'm gonna give you a quick
tip here. I would if I could pay her more.
I would also pay myself more. But neither one of
those things happened. Boss man does all that, So what
do you got Mike?

Speaker 8 (01:16:53):
Okay, full PPR. I need just one of these four starters, JK. Dobbins,
Uh Sutton or the questionable Devote Smith or the questionable
Deebo Samuel thanks as always.

Speaker 6 (01:17:08):
I think Debo is gonna be okay. He's got he's questionable,
but it's like a couple injuries that he's sort of
been dealing with. And I love his matchup. I love
that he's kind of like the go to guy. Now,
Brandon and A you got out of there, so I'm
gonna go Deebo. Great matchup against Tampa, who just has
had all kinds of problems with their secondary beautiful.

Speaker 2 (01:17:25):
All right, that's that opens up a line, by the way,
two O six two eight six ninety five ninety five
two six two eight six ninety five ninety five. Next up,
we head down south roll into Pierce County the two
five three area code. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.
Here he is Ricky in Tacoma. What's up, Ricky?

Speaker 6 (01:17:44):
All right?

Speaker 5 (01:17:44):
How's it going? Ladies and gentlemen?

Speaker 2 (01:17:45):
We're good, buddy, we're good.

Speaker 8 (01:17:47):
What do you got?

Speaker 7 (01:17:48):
Oh? All right?

Speaker 12 (01:17:49):
I don't have a burning question this week, but I
guess i'd say Matt Stafford or keel of Williams.

Speaker 7 (01:17:54):
I know the answer, but.

Speaker 2 (01:17:56):
Wait, wait, wait, timet, time out, time out, Ricky, Okay,
what do you think the answer is? Let's see if
Fundson agrees with you.

Speaker 7 (01:18:03):
Oh, Matt's gunslinger, man, Matthew Man, he stows all over
the place. I'm just saying, every game I watch.

Speaker 5 (01:18:09):
Happens, quarter, overtime, everything.

Speaker 6 (01:18:14):
Interestingly enough, Miami has given him the fewest fantasy points
to the quarterback position. But I don't care if Nikua
and Cupper out there, which they will be, and assuming
Nku is not going to throw.

Speaker 2 (01:18:24):
Up throw quarter like I like downs, I love it
all right. Ricky will talk to you next week.

Speaker 7 (01:18:31):
My man.

Speaker 2 (01:18:32):
There you go. That's Ricky and Tacoma. That opens up
a line two oh six two eight six ninety eight
two nine oh nine five zero. He was a little tardy,
a little late to the party, to the party today,
but he's here with us. What do you think, Fundson?
What do you think the attitude is going to be
good or bad? How do you think it's going to be.

Speaker 6 (01:18:49):
I'm feeling I'm feeling like he's down again. I think
it's a double it's a double down, back to back weeks.

Speaker 2 (01:18:57):
All right, here we go, we'll try Hi, Rob, I
love this game.

Speaker 11 (01:19:02):
Yeah, I'm sorry. I love doing some day drinking, so
I kind of forget the time.

Speaker 2 (01:19:09):
Oh I'll never changed, Rob, never changed. All right, what
do you got, buddy?

Speaker 7 (01:19:14):
So that was a great call last week on the defense.
So can I get it again with the Philly or
Sincy Plice.

Speaker 6 (01:19:19):
Philly or Sincy. Yeah, that's that's pretty easy. You got
Philly going against Cooper Rush versus you know, since he
going against Lamar Jackson.

Speaker 2 (01:19:27):
So give me Philly all the way. There you go?
All right? All right, Rob loves this game and he's
day drinking. All those things are true, all in one day.

Speaker 3 (01:19:36):
It's a beautiful life to live.

Speaker 2 (01:19:38):
It really is staying in BURI in our buddy, Chris
and Burien. What do you got Chris?

Speaker 11 (01:19:43):
Good afternoon, gentlemen. Two wins, two weeks. You know what
they call that boat the street?

Speaker 6 (01:19:52):
The question this week is full point PPR.

Speaker 11 (01:19:57):
Who do I start at tight end? Our local boy
Kate Aughton or the always questionable And.

Speaker 6 (01:20:06):
Yeah I have I've I'll tell you what. I've had
this this same question for one of my lineups for
like the last three weeks and I've made the right
call each week, and that's been going with Kate Oughten
and you know with Chris, Chris God went out, Mike
Evan's out. Kate Oughten is the go to guy, and
I wouldn't expect it to change this week. I have
Aughton way ahead of Laporta, who's kind of just disappeared

(01:20:27):
in that offense.

Speaker 2 (01:20:28):
All right, there you go. That's Chris and Bury and
all right, little we got on. Look who's there? Greg?
And Graham? What's up? Greg?

Speaker 11 (01:20:35):
Hey? How you guys doing.

Speaker 5 (01:20:36):
We're good.

Speaker 7 (01:20:38):
I'm on a roll because these guys are on a roll,
and I got a bench one of them.

Speaker 11 (01:20:41):
So whom I bench in here?

Speaker 7 (01:20:43):
Brandon, I got Travis Kelcey, Kate Aughton, Daream Hunt or
Chase Brown.

Speaker 6 (01:20:50):
I'm gonna bench Creamy. Yeah, I'm gonna bench Hunt. He's uh,
he's a little bit banged up. Denver is a pretty
good defense. Yeah, I just I mean, it's more about
really liking your other options. Like you said, they're all
in a roll. But I'll bench cream Hunt.

Speaker 2 (01:21:06):
All right, there we go. All right, let's see what
we got next year we go to Well, where else
would we go huh where else we go? Sultan Washington,
Derek and Sultan your first up? What do you got buddy?

Speaker 9 (01:21:20):
Sultan?

Speaker 11 (01:21:20):
Whoopoo?

Speaker 9 (01:21:21):
All right, you guys were right about this the first time,
so let's hit hit you with it again. Kyler Murray
or Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 6 (01:21:31):
I'm just looking at my thing I got Mahomes. I actually,
I mean, I really like DeAndre Hopkins in that lineup.
I just always loved DeAndre Hopkins, but I think he
just fits perfectly. He can do a lot of what
Rashi Rice is doing is just working the soft spots
in the defense Travis Kelsey's cooking. So I'm going to
go Patrick Mahomes in this one.

Speaker 2 (01:21:49):
All right, boom, all right, A couple a couple of
minutes left for phone calls, got a few more to
get to Tuto six two eight six nine six two
way six nine five. We stay, of course in Sultan
because Steven's there. He's up next. What's up, Steven?

Speaker 15 (01:22:04):
Well, my large receivers that've opened their own wing in
the er. Now, I just lost to last week with
a lobby and Slayton going down, so I need one flag,
not g Harris, Mark Andrews Jono Smith, DeMarcus Romison or
Noah Brown, and I hopefully no one gets into this week.

Speaker 9 (01:22:21):
I can't afford it.

Speaker 6 (01:22:22):
Yeah, I'm gonna go Naujia Harris. He's a three straight
one hundred yard games. He's also had like seven straight
eighty yard game, like eighty yards from scrimmage games. He's
just been really consistent. You know, the Commanders are getting
better on defense, but I think it's still somebody that
you can have some success against. So he's head and
shoulders to play there.

Speaker 2 (01:22:41):
All right, boom perfect, Mike's in Auburn. Hi, Mike, Hey,
how you guys doing. I need him? Rock Party or
Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 6 (01:22:51):
Yeah, Baker Mayfield's been great, but these guys are going
against each other. I like brock Purty for the same
reason I like Deebo Samuel. That Tampa defense just has
not defended the pass well. Brock Perty has been been awesome.
These are two of the best quarterbacks in fantasy this year.
I'll go with the guy that has a better matchup
in Party.

Speaker 2 (01:23:07):
All right, Well, I'll tell you right now. You can
tell it's getting to be crunch time in fantasy football.
Our phones are just blowing up, right now like they
are blowing up. Will Is in Mountain Vernon. Hi, Will, Hey,
I need two of three half PPR.

Speaker 11 (01:23:23):
Chase Brown, Tyrone Tracy and Brian Robinson Jr.

Speaker 6 (01:23:28):
H I'm gonna go with Brown and Tracy and I
like Brian Robinson Jr. But they held him back last
week because of the hamstring injury. He's kind of, you know,
practicing a little bit limitedly this week, but he's the
least healthy of them all. I like all their like
all their matchups, but I'll go with the two healthiest guys.

Speaker 2 (01:23:44):
All right, there we go. We'll get a couple more
phone calls in. Let's go to Noah and Olympia.

Speaker 11 (01:23:49):
I Noah, how you guys doing good?

Speaker 15 (01:23:52):
Bud Man, I'm in a tough position and I just.

Speaker 7 (01:23:56):
Need some help here.

Speaker 2 (01:23:57):
My flex is horrible.

Speaker 7 (01:23:59):
But I got Ricky Piersall, Dalton Schultz or Romo donsday.

Speaker 6 (01:24:06):
Uh. You know what I've been thinking all week that
I like Ricky Piersoll, whether Juwan Jennings plays or not,
I just really like the way he looked his last
time out, and I just, uh in Jennings is, you know,
we're not one hundred percent sure he's gonna play anyways,
but we know he's not one hundred percent healthy. I
just think that we're gonna see Ricky pearsall start to
gain some momentum down the stretch here, so I would
roll the dice on him.

Speaker 2 (01:24:25):
All right, beautiful, We'll take a two more phone calls in?
Is it Elias? Did I get it right?

Speaker 3 (01:24:31):
Elias?

Speaker 2 (01:24:31):
Elias, Elias? My Paull my phone.

Speaker 11 (01:24:35):
That's that's that's fine.

Speaker 6 (01:24:37):
What do you got?

Speaker 11 (01:24:39):
I got Clirk Cousin or Jotted go.

Speaker 6 (01:24:42):
Who is the second one?

Speaker 2 (01:24:43):
Who's the second guy?

Speaker 4 (01:24:45):
Uh?

Speaker 11 (01:24:45):
Got it?

Speaker 8 (01:24:47):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:24:47):
Jared Goff? Okay, Cousins are golf. Okay, who do you
got fun?

Speaker 6 (01:24:50):
Yeah, he is a good defense golf on the road.
I'm gonna go with Kirk Cousins picking on that Saints defense.
So h yeah, give me Cousins.

Speaker 2 (01:24:57):
Okay, we'll get two more calls in. All right, Jess,
we'll get the two lost. We'll get this last two wins,
Scott and some amit? Scott?

Speaker 11 (01:25:02):
What you got Kyler Murray or Sam Darnold?

Speaker 4 (01:25:07):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (01:25:07):
Sam Donald? Going against Jacksonville one of the best passing
matchups you can get.

Speaker 2 (01:25:12):
Jacksonville not even trying to win, right, Now that's what
I hear, not even trying to win along the way.

Speaker 6 (01:25:16):
You wonder if Trevor Lawrence is even gonna play, even
though he says he's gonna try to.

Speaker 2 (01:25:19):
Because he's got the shoulder issue. Okay, last phone called
James and Seattle. James, what do you got?

Speaker 11 (01:25:24):
I got a full PPR. I just need one of them.

Speaker 15 (01:25:28):
McConkie, Jennings or Johnston.

Speaker 6 (01:25:32):
Uh, Jennings or Johnston. I'm gonna go lad, McConkie slightly
over Jennings. Man, It's it's really close. If we get
a full just a really good health report on Jennings,
give me Jennings slightly ahead of Honky. But those would
be the two I'd be focusing on.

Speaker 5 (01:25:49):
All right, there we go.

Speaker 2 (01:25:50):
That's it. That's it for phone calls. We had a
lot of new people today, like a lot of new
people and Funston. We could have taken even more, but
you know what, we gotta get to the music on
and we got to hit a couple of texts. We
had two that came in at exactly twelve o'clock. Wow,
Ryan and Scottsdale usually nails it, and he nailed it today.
He's number one on the list. Dear mister Fantasy listening

(01:26:11):
on the iHeartRadio app. I need to beat the commission
this week. Russell or Mahomes.

Speaker 6 (01:26:17):
Yeah, I'm gonna go out with Mahomes for the reasons
I mentioned earlier. I just like the way he looks
with Hopkins in that lineup.

Speaker 2 (01:26:23):
Russell Wilson, Really, come on, Ryan, you're better than that.
You're just better than that. Okay, You're just better than that.
Next up, need three wide receivers Standard league, Standard League.
I'm sorry, DeVante Adams, Drake London, Deebo, Samuel Khalil Shakir,
Jamison Williams needs three three James.

Speaker 6 (01:26:41):
Yeah, I'm just gonna go with the top three Adams,
London and Deebo perfect.

Speaker 2 (01:26:45):
One second after the top of the hour, half point
PPR from our buddy Keith Juwan Jennings, d Hopper Eckler,
he needs one.

Speaker 6 (01:26:52):
I'm gonna go d hop He does have Patrick Sirtan
draping all over him, but I think he can do
enough to win out in this. In this pick him
that you've thrown out here.

Speaker 2 (01:27:02):
We have one second after the hour at tight end,
question Mark Andrews Jake Ferguson, I.

Speaker 6 (01:27:08):
Have Mark Andrews and one of the best matchups for
a tight end against the Bengals.

Speaker 2 (01:27:13):
That's tonight. Make sure you get it in.

Speaker 6 (01:27:14):
And the other thing about that is is likely as out.
So it's it's all Andrews at tight end.

Speaker 8 (01:27:19):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:27:20):
One second after the hour, Jason Suttle and pick one
non PPR league, ric o' daddle, Austin Eckler, Rolla Dones eight,
Juwan Jennings Rashad White needs one in a non PPR league.

Speaker 6 (01:27:33):
Uh, I'm gonna go Juwan Jennings.

Speaker 2 (01:27:36):
Okay, beautiful half point PPR need one Ingram Hawkinson pitts Um.

Speaker 6 (01:27:43):
I'm gonna go Evan Ingram and that's gosh. That's with
potentially Matt Jones Well, who was the second Hawks my
rankings were with With Trevor Lawrence, I all bets their
office with Mac Jones.

Speaker 2 (01:27:57):
Ben was the last guy to come in. One second
after the hour, standard scoring. Need two wide receivers, Sutton Legette,
Pittman Junior or Keenan Allen.

Speaker 6 (01:28:08):
I'm gonna go Sutton and I will go Xavier Lea Gay.
He's getting a lot of looks. They've traded off all
their wide receivers. He's kind of like the last man
standing there, and he's looking pretty good.

Speaker 2 (01:28:19):
We're now three seconds after the hour, So tardy these people.
Two five, three, says fantasy guru Funston picked two out
of three PPR Pollard Downs or mcconkee. That's from our
buddy Nola in Rent and so Pollard Downs or mcconkee
needs two of those three.

Speaker 6 (01:28:34):
Yeah, Pollard's getting twenty touches a game. Josh Downs is
looking good. I'm gonna go with the first two.

Speaker 2 (01:28:38):
There still at the top of the hour, twelve o'clock
Kareem Hunt or James Connor.

Speaker 6 (01:28:44):
James Connor got a little bit of a finger issue,
but it's said to be minor.

Speaker 2 (01:28:48):
Yeah, what happened to he get? Bench? Ser he get?
Was he the second half of that?

Speaker 6 (01:28:50):
Yeah? I think that was the finger thing. And so
they played Trey Benson and Amari de Mercato or whatever.
But he should be good.

Speaker 2 (01:28:59):
To go, uh full point PPR need one keyon Coleman
roll of doonsay Jamison Williams.

Speaker 6 (01:29:05):
Coleman Williams, roll the dice on Jamison Williams coming back
off of the layoff.

Speaker 2 (01:29:11):
Aaron Rodgers, Caleb Williams Aaron Rodgers, Well, you have a
trade question, all right? Is Hubbard for Mooney a fair
trade when both have plenty of respective positions?

Speaker 5 (01:29:23):
What that that part?

Speaker 2 (01:29:24):
News?

Speaker 7 (01:29:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:29:25):
I like it because if you're the Hubbard guy, then
you're trading right as Jonathan Brooks is coming back because
and you just you just mentioned that Hubbard signed a
four year deal. I just think Carolina is planning on
going a full platoon with these two guys. And so
Donald Mooney has been Darnald Mooney has been one of
the top fantasy receivers this year. I don't know if
that goes away.

Speaker 2 (01:29:45):
We go up to the top of the hour at
two o'clock today, Jake Ferguson, Dallas Goddard.

Speaker 6 (01:29:52):
If Dallas Goddard plays, I want Dallas Goddard again. It's
Cooper Rush at quarterback, right, that's probably just a wait
and with Jake Ferguson on.

Speaker 2 (01:30:01):
That just thought of that because I got I've got
Jake Ferguson this week.

Speaker 6 (01:30:04):
I just thought sometimes those backup quarterbacks they just lean
into the tide end.

Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
Yeah, you know what, just kind of you know, a
little dink and dunk, dnk and duck Rashad White or
Brian Robinson Jr.

Speaker 6 (01:30:12):
Yeah, assuming Brian Robinson Junior plays. Give me Brian Robinson Jr.

Speaker 2 (01:30:16):
Our buddy, Trevor Gish. You know what, Trevor. Nobody likes
a guy that brags, but I'll read it anyway on
a five game heater Burrow or golf. Uh.

Speaker 6 (01:30:24):
Burrow is my number three quarterback this week, so he's
been hot and Baltimore gives up points to the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:30:31):
Need a running back Chewba James Connor or Kareem Hunt.
I'll go with James Connor, full PPR. Sutton or London.

Speaker 6 (01:30:40):
I bet chanting out these guys back to back. I'm
giving London the slight the slight nod there.

Speaker 2 (01:30:46):
Cousins, Caleb Williams or Herbert at quarterback.

Speaker 6 (01:30:51):
Cousins is my top rated of that group, and by
a pretty good amount.

Speaker 2 (01:30:55):
Do we like Caleb Williams this week? And all somebody
wants to know, just to like anybody whose.

Speaker 3 (01:31:00):
Yeah, just a random person.

Speaker 6 (01:31:02):
Totally at home. The Patriots are not. They've been kind
of a tough matchup for quarterbacks, so I don't love
I mean, after what we saw from him last week,
I think you got to try what you can to
sit him. There's probably some people out there that you
can pick up that Daniel Jones against the Carolina is
a better play.

Speaker 2 (01:31:21):
Really, not what I wanted to hear, Funston, I'm sorry,
not what the listener wanted to hear. Gabe Davis, Dale Robinson,
Noah Brown or DeMarcus Robinson half PPR.

Speaker 6 (01:31:31):
Well, who was the second one there?

Speaker 2 (01:31:32):
Dale, Robin Dale, Dale Robinson, Oh, DeMarcus from Marcus Robinson.

Speaker 3 (01:31:37):
Yeah, that might have been an autocorrect.

Speaker 6 (01:31:40):
Yeah, I mean of that group, and given that we're
likely Mac Jones for Gabe Davis, I'll go with DeMarcus Robinson.
He plays off of those, off of those go to
guys and Cupp and Nikoua pretty well.

Speaker 4 (01:31:50):
Oh this is a hot one just coming in. Joe
Burrow or Kirk Cousins.

Speaker 6 (01:31:55):
Yeah, Joe Burrow love his matchup.

Speaker 2 (01:31:58):
Nice. Nice, I'm looking for a let's see standard scoring
roll with Dosay Michael Pittman, if.

Speaker 6 (01:32:08):
Healthy, let's go with Let's go with the Donsay. It's
it's pretty close, but Pittman has just been down for
a while, and I like the way Donsay has kind
of been been bubbling up of Lane. So give me
a Donesday, not by a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:32:22):
God know, Russell Wilson question c J Stroud, Russell Wilson.

Speaker 6 (01:32:27):
Yeah, I'm gonna go see J. Stroud does not look
like he's getting Eco back this week. He is practice today.

Speaker 2 (01:32:33):
At some point, we have to have things, you know,
right in this world, don't we. Let mean just have
to Ben and Kirkland, Herbert or Stroud. I have Stroud
and again.

Speaker 6 (01:32:44):
A lot of this has to do with the fact
that the Lions have been a you know, a matchup
that you can pick on into the passing game.

Speaker 2 (01:32:51):
Touchdown only league Connor Hunt or I think you meet
Kareem Hunt. I think that's an auto correct Kareem Hunt.

Speaker 6 (01:32:59):
Connor.

Speaker 3 (01:33:00):
Now this is a voice to text.

Speaker 2 (01:33:02):
Oh you know what this is. There's no there's no comments.
Touchdowns only league James Connor, Kareem Hunt or cmc oh.

Speaker 6 (01:33:08):
I think you gotta go, Seem don't you.

Speaker 8 (01:33:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:33:10):
I mean they're gonna give a chance to get in
the end z on they get closed for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:33:14):
Let's see, uh Donald or Mayfield?

Speaker 6 (01:33:17):
Uh Donald or Mayfield? I have Donald again going against Jacksonville.

Speaker 2 (01:33:24):
Let's see, I'm gonna get one more Stafford Daniel Jones.
Do you like Daniel Jones or no Stafford? Do you like?
I like Stafford Daniel Jones more than Caleb is what
you told us.

Speaker 6 (01:33:32):
Yeah, Daniel Jones has a lot to do with the
fact that it's just Carolina who is. I don't think
anybody can really challenge them for being the worst defense
in the league this year.

Speaker 2 (01:33:41):
Okay, let's see, dear mister, Fantasy Safeway or Central Market?

Speaker 6 (01:33:47):
Oh man, have you seen Central Market lately? They didn't
call it central markets, Town and Country. But with with
their you know, with their renovations, it's looking amazing.

Speaker 2 (01:33:56):
What if Keith might be your neighbor or something?

Speaker 6 (01:33:59):
That's some Paul though intel.

Speaker 2 (01:34:01):
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Now we know a
little bit more about our buddy Keith Miller's from. That's
where we know where buddy Keith Miller is from. All right,
we got it all done. We had more phone calls
than we've ever had before. We had a ton of
text and we obviously can't get too so for people
who don't get it answered, where can they find this information?

Speaker 8 (01:34:19):
Sir?

Speaker 6 (01:34:19):
Yeah, we kind of bury the league. Christian McCaffrey back
this week, we got information about him and his return.
And you know, my colleague Jake Seely ranks all the
players all the way up to kickoff. We have a
guy that sits there an hour or two before kickoff
and answers all your start sick questions. And I even
put out a big board this week, so if you're
interested in rest of season values for those trades that
you need to think about making, you can check out

(01:34:41):
my big.

Speaker 5 (01:34:41):
Board as well.

Speaker 2 (01:34:42):
Great stuff, my friend, always great stuff. Go to the
Athletic Theathletic dot com, click on the fantasy football tab
and get all the information you need from Brandon Fundson.
We will talk to you next week, sir.

Speaker 6 (01:34:51):
All right, appreciate you guys.

Speaker 2 (01:34:52):
There you go. That's Brandon Fundson. The unofficial start of
the weekend is here. It's upon us. We love. It's
one of our favorite segments of the week. Got to
hear from some of our good friends along the way.
Rob and Beering a little bit tardy because he was
day drinking today, so he had to kind of sneak
in on the back door there. Huh.

Speaker 4 (01:35:06):
You know, one drum line, one line drops, another window opens,
I guess you know, door closes, window opens.

Speaker 2 (01:35:14):
These guys are These guys are just a tree treasures
they are. They are absolute American heroes. These people, Ricky
and Tacoma and the whole nine yards, mic and almost
guys
